Commencing...

"Polly use Whirlpool one more time and try and hold her for as long as you can but if she breaks free get away from her as fast as you can and avoid her attacks as best as possible ok?" I was wondering why he continued to attack, he had a pretty good chance of capturing Deerling, but I guess he just wanted an even better chance. I just shrugged it off.

Before Empoleon moved though, Deerling formed a large white ball. After a few seconds, small seed like orbs shot out towards Empoleon. The seeds exploded after making impact on the blue paddle-like arms. Empoleon cried out in pain, but the attack didn't stop him, I was pretty impressed.

Empoleon took in a deep breath and raised his head high. A long spiral of water came out of his beak, going about eight feet high. The large whirlpool engulfed Deerling, thrashing her about. The whirlpool didn't last long, it collapsed pretty quickly. I wondered what Daniel was going to do now, attack again or try and capture it.

I was ready to just move on, but Ataro released his Smeargle from her ball. Apparently he intended to battle, which was a fair surprise, considering he hadn't fought anything since Cameron had left. It wasn't an unpleasant surprise, though. The Smeargle swirled her green-tipped tail around using her arm, raring to fight.

"Okay Smeargle, it's your turn! Start out by locking its position with a Mean Look, then quickly boost your attack and speed power with a Dragon Dance!" Ataro commanded.

The Smeargle waved her tail around in the air, and red liquid was suspended as if on an invisible easel. I realised that she was actually painting an eye, and when the cude drawing was complete it began to refine itself, emitting darkness as it did so. The malevolent spiritual eye stared barefully down at the Mincinno, who was shaking and holding its tail close to its chest. There was no way it was going to try and run - that would mean presenting its back to the evil eye.

Smeargle then began to dance in a side-to-side kind of way, a vicious tribal dance that promised much pain to anyone who got in Smeargle's way. The Mincinno was still shaking, but now it was looking up at its opponent with big eyes. Pink hearts bubbled up behind it and popped in midair - the whole effect was painfully cute. Smeargle stopped dancing and gazed at the Wild Pokemon, a gentle smile on her face.

As Smeargle started to sway side-to-side in a funny dance, the Minccino started to lock eye contact with her. Pink hearts started to appear and bubble behind it, then popping in midair. Judging from the appeals of the attack, it had to be a sort of charming attack. Smeargle stopped dancing and gazed at the Minccino, smiling gently at the wild Pokemon at the same time.

Dragon Dance was supposed to strengthen Smeargle's attack power and speed, but it seems that she didn't manage to get stronger physically, but in fact the opposite. Minccino must have lowered Smeargle's physical attacking capabilities with Charm.

"Smeargle, don't back down. Strike it with your speed-boosted Extremespeed and paralyze it right after the attack by slapping it with Thunder Wave using your tail!"

She nodded her head and jumped up; zooming off in a flash of daze. All that was left behind her was a trail of dust and dirt.

"Smeargle, don't back down. Strike it with your speed-boosted Extremespeed and paralyze it right after the attack by slapping it with Thunder Wave using your tail!" Ataro called out.

Smeargle jumped up once into the air, and when she landed she blurred towards the Mincinno and crashtackled the Chincilla Pokemon. Not wasting a second, the Smeargle began batting the Minccino repeatedly with her tail, and as she did so sparks welled up around her fluffy tail and began to crawl across the Wild Pokemon's fluffy white fur. The Mincinno squeaked unhappily and began trying to throw the Smeargle off her.

When that didn't work, the Mincinno began slapping the Smeargle with her own tail. The first two strikes from the feather-duster-like tail didn't seem to faze Ataro's Pokemon, but the third caught Smeargle in the side, causing the sketch Pokemon to roll away. The Minccino tried to get to her feet, but the jumping sparks began to seep into her fur and she fell back over onto the ground. Ataro was an impressive battler - he was using STAB and status effects to negate Smeargle's lack of physical power!

As she smashed herself into the Minccino, albeit causing slight damage only, due to Smeargle's low physical attack power; the Minccino was still visibly taken aback. This allowed Smeargle the chance to immediately follow up with her Thunder Wave, and the paralysis quickly crawled through the Pokemon's fur. It grunted annoyingly and tried to throw Smeargle off her back, except that it was a futile attempt instead.

When that didn't work, the Minccino started slapping Smeargle with her own tail; eventually causing my Pokemon to roll away. The wild Pokemon tried to get on its feet but crumbled back to the ground desperately; the paralysis status effect was doing its magic.

"Alright Smeargle, now boost your attack and speed power with Dragon Dance again, and give it two rams with your Extremespeed again. Strike it from the left, then immediately follow up from the right. Give it your full power!" I shouted.

"Alright Smeargle, now boost your attack and speed power with Dragon Dance again, and give it two rams with your Extremespeed again. Strike it from the left, then immediately follow up from the right. Give it your full power!" Ataro ordered.

Smeargle nodded and began to perform the strange swaying dance again, gesturing sharply with her rounded hands and feet. Small flecks of green paint flew off the tip of her tail as she danced, and they landed on the grassy turf with a slight hiss. Small plumes of smoke rose up into the air, but interestingly, the grass underneath was undamaged.

The Minccino got to its feet and began to dance as well. However, this was an open sweeping dance of happiness and excitement as opposed to Smeargle's Dragon Dance of quick gestures and impending pain. The Pokemon danced opposite each other, and for a couple seconds, the battle looked more like a dancing competition.

If it had been that, Smeargle would have been the winner. She suddenly blurred towards the Minccino and threw a blindingly fast punch at the Wild Pokemon's left side. The Minccino cried out and stepped backwards, but Smeargle wasn't done. The Tracing Pokemon clenched her fists together and slammed them into the Minccino's right side, sweeping it off its feet. The Minccino landed on a heap in the ground, crying softly. The crying began to escalate in volume, and I was about to go check on the Wild Pokemon when I realised the crying was the precursor of an attack. There was a sudden incredibly-loud blast of noise that emanated from the Minccino, and Smeargle dropped her tail to cover her ears. The Minccino's wailing would have popped eardrums at close range - thankfully, Ataro and I were both far away enough that hearing the noise was only just painful. Not so for Smeargle.

Smeargle nodded and quickly performed what I told her. She repeated the same dance again, making sharp gestures with her bun-like hands and feet. As she danced, small flecks of green paint splattered out from her tail onto the grassy turf; demonstrating the speed at which she was spinning at.

This soon become yet another repeated occurrence, for Smeargle's opponent started to do the same. The difference though, was that as Smeargle started to dance, she would dance faster and faster, as well as more vigorously with each turn as well. Minccino on the other hand, is dancing at a relatively relaxed speed, albeit with forceful spins. I knew that the Minccino species cannot learn Dragon Dance for sure, so it was most likely Work Up.

Smeargle was not going to stand there and watch her opponent dance however. She suddenly disappeared in a trail of white dust, and appeared right beside Minccino. Before the opponent even had time to notice or to turn, Smeargle had already slammed herself towards Minccino's left side. The wild Pokemon cried out desperately and was pushed backwards; only to get rammed from the other side immediately. She tumbled onto the ground helplessly, and cried out softly. Not for long. The cry soon escalated into a deafening pitch - it was Hyper Voice. Smeargle quickly covered her ears with her paws and tails, but I could tell it was not helping much. Regardless, we were still at a much advantageous position than the wild Pokemon for sure.

"Let's wrap this up, Smeargle! Dance with your inner dragon power again, then slam it face on with one more Extremespeed!" I paused, and started to get annoyed at how I could only use Extremespeed as my attack move. Smeargle's position in my team wasn't meant to attack that much, but rather as a support Pokemon for my team. But still, her moves are truly outdated, since these moves were last sketched about a year ago. "Oh, and once you hit it, spread your sleeping Spores onto the Minccino - focus on its face area."

"Let's wrap this up, Smeargle! Dance with your inner dragon power again, then slam it face on with one more Extremespeed!" Ataro called.

Somehow his Pokemon managed to hear him over the Hyper Voice. Reluctantly, the Sketching Pokemon lowered her hands and began to dance the Dragon Dance again. The Minccino stopped squealing and looked at the dancing Smeargle, narrowing its eyes unhappily. The chinchilla dropped to all fours and ran towards Smeargle, headbutting her in her slim chest. Smeargle was thrown to the ground and landed in a
dust cloud.

"Oh, and once you hit it, spread your sleeping Spores onto the Minccino - focus on its face area," Ataro added, seemingly as an afterthought.

Smeargle got onto its feet and grabbed hold of its tail. It quickly sketched some small green spheres that levitated around her. She then blurred towards the Minccino and smacked it across the face with her tail, using the appendage like a club. The green spheres erupted silently, spreading light yellow dust all around the Minccino. Suddenly, a quick burst of electricity erupted from the Minccino and expanded in a sphere around Smeargle. The blue sparks intermingled with the yellow dust, playing havoc with visibility. When the attacks finally cleared, both Pokemon were lying on the ground. The Minccino was fast asleep, and the Smeargle was spasming slightly as small blue sparks crawled across its body.

As Smeargle took down her arms somewhat reluctantly, she started dancing around soulfully again. This dance would further heighten her physical power and agility in combat. Her opponent was not going to sit there and watch obediently however. The Minccino narrowed her eyes down on Smeargle, in a way that it sort of looked like she was squinting at my Pokemon ... but it wad more than that. Without warning, she ran towards Smeargle on all four paws; throwing my Pokemon back with a forceful headbutt.

Smeargle got back up almost immediately, and instead bursted with a wild flash of blinding white. Yet at the same time, with a few light-speed fast sketching using her tail - several small emerald-green bombs evolved and expanded from the ink splots. She then blasted herself forward with an Extremespeed, while the Spore-scattered powder lingered around her, ready to inflict it's drowsy status on any one that comes into close proximity with it's owner.

As the target drew closer, she whipped out her tail again and used it to make the first collision with her opponent, causing the Spore pellets to explode silently as well. As the multiple ping-pong ball-like pellets ruptured around Minccino, another source of light had materialized, but this time from Minccino. The light soon expanded into a large sphere which confined Smeargle, and electricity had started to sizzle violently. The sparks then exploded as well; fusing in with the Spore explosion. When the smoke had cleared, both of them were down on the ground; visibly weak from battle. Smeargle was paralyzed by Thunder Wave, and Minccino had fallen asleep to Spore.

I wasn't quite sure if a capture now would be successful, because a successful capture was not only dependent on the wild Pokemon's health and any status effects that are inflicted, or about the kind of capture balls to use - it was also dependent on how "calm" a Pokemon might feel. A Pokemon is not likely to enter a Pokeball if it is not "calm" enough; a factor which is easily solved by engaging in a longer battle, or to use calming fragrances that ate sold in the Park Shop. Unfortunately, I had only bought the one that was only to be used for higher-leveled species, so I didn't have much of an option here now. I decided I would just bring down the Minccino's health even lower, and try for a capture right away.

"Smeargle, I know your paralyzed by that Thunde Wave, but I only need you to produce one last Extremespeed. Go easy on this one; don't put too much power into it. I want it low enough just for gaining a better chance of a successful capture. I held on to my Hyper Ball; ready to throw it once Smeargle had tried to attack, for there was a slight possibility to which she would be fully paralyzed and not being able to attack.

With great difficulty, Smeargle got onto her feet, preparing to attack once again. Unfortunately, the paralysis spasms ran through her legs, and she dropped on her knees, unable to strike the Minccino one last time. Ataro saw this, and he decided to just attempt the capture. He pulled out a Hyper Ball and tossed it towards the sleeping Wild Pokemon. The Minccino was absorbed in a flash of red light, and the ball shook back and forth before finally stilling.

"Congratulations on your Minccino capture," I said to Ataro as I walked over and picked up the ball. He returned Smeargle and I was about to lead him onwards when my radio squawked. I pulled it out and listened to it quickly. My eyes widened - there was a disaster at Outer Heavens!

"Are there any replacement Rangers in the area?" I barked.

There were not. I swore, and turned to Ataro.

"Do you mind ending this Expedition a little early?" I asked him.

"Not at all, I have to go anyway," he replied.

"Good, we have no time to waste," I said. I released my Staraptor from his PokeBall and we both climbed on board. Broadblade crowed once before pushing powerfully off into the air, and we flew towards the exit gate in the dying red light of the sun.

Ranger jay

It was a gloriously sunny day when I decided to come back and take up my post as being a Ranger. The weather was matching my mood, and I kept stopping to look out the window of the traditional Ranger cabins to make sure the sun was still shining brightly. Today, I was on the outskirts of the Botanic gardens and the scenery here was truely amazing. Within just a few more minutes, I had shoved all the supplies I would need: the necessary paperwork, bottles of chilled spring water and of course my Pokemon and ranger supplies. I glanced up at the clock to see it was just about eleven o'clock in the morning. Perfect!

I quickly opened the door, and left the building. Skirting past numerous types of variously coloured plants, I made my way to the gates where it was traditional for Rangers to meet up with their Trainers. I didn't really have time to look at the plants, but I had seen them many a time when I was in the Park. Within a few minutes, I arrived at the large wooden gates and turned around. I couldn't see my Trainers yet, so I decided to just relax and wait for time. Hopefully they hadn't gotten lost on the way...

The scorching sun shone down on me as I walked towards the Botanic Gardens, the location of my second run through the National Park. I had to adjust my aviator sunglasses to block out the sun more. I check my watch, eleven-oh-three. I shrug; I figured I couldn’t be that late for the run. I glance down at my belt, my four go-to Pokemon are there. I grab a bright red Pokéball, which glowed like a searing fire. On the top of the sphere was an etched in ‘M’, my Infernape, Monbrey.

I stop for a moment to toss the capsule-like device in front of me to release the ape inside. In a flash of golden white light, an ape with flames sprouting out of its head. It had a darker red hair than most Infernapes and a radiant white overcoat of hair.

It yelled the only thing it could, its name. “Naaappeeee!” It flexed its muscles being the showoff it is. It loved being in this type of weather, the heat made it feel much stronger than it really was.

“C’mon wannabe, lets keep moving,” I said as I shoved the Pokemon and sprinted forward, “We’ve got to get some more Pokemon!” The ape hinted the joke and chased after me.

After a few minutes of joking around and following the signs that led them to the Botanic Gardens, they arrived at their destination. Breathtaking plants grew everywhere making the Gardens have all of the colors of the rainbow. I stopped, by the huge wooden gates was a ranger. I figured it was the ranger for a friend and I.

“Good first impression okay?” I whispered to Monbrey as we walked towards the ranger. “Hey, I’m guessing you’re my ranger? The name is Halas and this is my Infernape, Monbrey.” I spoke to the man who would lead me on my adventure through the park while holding my hand out to shake his own.

I hadn't been in the Park for a while, so as I walked towards the main gate I was excited. Just a little bit. I was supposed to be going with some dude I'd just met that I had accidentally introduced myself to because I thought he was Monbrey. At the time it was an easy mistake. Trust me. So yeah, the sun was out, birds were chirping which confused me because birds don't exist here, and the grass was... grassy. And green. Right.

"Jolt- Jolteon. Jolt."

"Yeah, man, I know. It's too damn bright out." The world before me was hazy. Very Sahara-like, which didn't make sense, because this place was supposed to be some kind of garden.

"Jooolteon."

I looked over next to me at the yellow, spikey fox thing. Life had gotten pretty trippy in the past two years. Shit like this was normal now. I had a dog that could shoot electricity out of his ass. "Okay. So you think what about this guy now? I don't remember much about the party we met him at, so I need you to fill me in."

My Jolteon, who I named Apollo because at some point that seemed like a good idea, made a shrugging motion.

"He's a what? Oh, God." Then I saw them standing at the main entrance. Synth was leaning against the gate, looking sort of disoriented. He'd taken to calling himself Ranger Jay now. I suspected this was caused by a head injury that had happened during his break from URPG. The new guy was standing next to him with an Infernape that looked like it meant business. And by business I mean it was chilling in the sun. That kind of business. That was when I remembered I didn't know this guy's name. Ah, shit. "'Sup, Synth," I said, nodding at him like a badass. "Hey... you." I smiled at the guy. He seemed to recognize me. Not good, not good. "Help me out," I mumbled to Apollo, but he just sort of cackled at me. What an ass.

Ranger: Jay

Within just a few minutes, my trainers had arrived. First came Halas, accompanied by a rather tall Infernape that seemed to be a little different in colour than all of the other Infernape I had seen. After a brief handshake and some small-talk, we were ready to set off into the gardens. I heard a bark from the clearing just a few minutes later, and a familiar-looking girl with her spiky yellow Pokemon appeared.

"Not her," I muttered under my breath. "For the love of God, not her!"

"'Sup, Synth," she said in a very bubbly way.

I gulped, lost for words. It took a few seconds before I could mumble out a feeble "hi". After wiping my sweaty palms on my trousers, I unlocked the large wooden gates and just like that, we were into the Botanic Gardens. Just a few minutes after walking into the dense trees and along the beaten track, I had managed to gather some nerve and looked towards the two silent trainers.

"Anything in particular you guys wa-MEW! Stop that!" I had cut across myself spotting the playful Mew holding an Exeggcute by one of the eggs and shaking it about. The Mew squealed gleefully as it dropped the eggs that were soon to be scrambled. It landed on the soft grass before rolling around and looking at us. "Here are our first encounters, it seems."

The Ranger and I exchanged in small talk for a while until a female trainer with her spiky dog arrived. She seemed to know Jay, our Ranger, quite well. She vaguely said hello to me. I nodded in the typical douche way of saying, “What’s up”. I look over at Jay; he seemed to be doing a prayer of some sorts. He turned around, hands shaking, to open the gate into the Gardens.

I look at my Infernape; he seems to be attempting to strike up a conversation with the trainer’s Jolteon. I looked at her trying to place a name on the familiar face. I shrug, not being able to. I turn back to the gate to see that Jay has got it open and ready for us to enter the vast area. I try to elbow my raw as hell fire ape, but end up hitting the female trainer in the side of the face.

“Shit,” I say aloud, “Sorry about that.” I give the death stare to my monkey who was laughing his ass off about the missed blow to his chest. I grab him and begin to rub my knuckles against his head, forgetting his head was made of flames.

It burns me, but I’ve had worse. I start to walk into the park while Jay begins to turn around. I wonder how much of that he saw, I think to myself. The Gardens were pretty badass. It looked like a Ho-oh ate too many skittles and vomited everywhere.

While I was staring at a flower that looked like Caesar Millan I heard Jay speak to us. "Anything in particular you guys wa-MEW! Stop that!"

I turn around to see a floating Pokemon shake an egg. Kind of cool. I laugh, as Jay attempted to get the egg from the pink monster. I then realized that the egg, was actually a Pokemon. I begin to tiptoe away so I don’t have to fight it, but you never know.

When he saw me, Jay started crossing himself furiously. He looked like he was crying. Homo. I still, could not for the life of me remember the other guy's name. I think it might've started with a 'Q'. Quentin? Quincy? Queef? I'd work out a way to figure this out, with or without my Pokemon, who was still smirking at me. We started walking a ways into the garden, a heavy, awkward silence hanging between us like a curtain drenched in urine and Everclear. That was when something boney collided with my face.

"GAH, THE FUCK?" I shouted, jumping back. I saw the kid's Infernape laughing furiously, along with Apollo.

The kid winced away from me. "Shit," he said, "Sorry about that."

The only apologies I accepted were the kind that came with severed human heads, so I glared at him, undressing him with my eyes. See how he likes that. As my eyes caressed his face and he began to look slightly nauseous and afraid, I heard Synth suddenly yell, "Anything in particular you guys wa-MEW! Stop that!"

I looked up from my victim to see a little pink kitten thing holding an egg with a face. It was sort of like the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey but with less flashing lights. "Holy shit, is that a Mew?" I asked curiously. The things were as rare as Bigfoot and twice as adorable. It was like Hello Kitty except it could squash your head like a melon with its mind. That was some scary ass shit. The egg I was less excited about. No one answered my question because Synth was too busy distancing himself from me and the kid was tiptoeing by the Mew like it was an ex girlfriend that he owed child support to. I shrugged and pulled a flask out of my jacket pocket, drinking deeply. They would never know that it was filled with Powerade and broken dreams. I continued down the road past the Mew, hoping the next Pokemon would be something I could legally catch.

Ranger: Jay

At the site of the Mew playing with the Exeggcute and throwing it about, both my trainers reacted differently. Halas gave a weak laugh before looking down at his feet, uncertainly. Probably feeling out of place and unsure of how to act, he began to tiptoe away from the pair of pink Pokemon messing about. It looked as though he wasn't very interested in the Pokemon, but maybe he was too shy to say anything about it.

"Holy shit, is that a Mew?"

I began to reply to her, but Alaska had made off down the road before I could say anything properly. The mew, who sure seemed to love the attention, seemed almost furious that the two trainers were leaving. It was used to having trainers fawn over it for hours because it was such a rare Pokemon. In a flash of red, the Mew dropped the exeggcute and shot forward, approaching alaska from behind.

"Mew?!" It squeaked. It began to perform a little jig of sorts, much to the amazement of the trainers. I could see the exeggcute catching up too.

"Doesn't seem like it wants to leave," I noted.

As I tried to walk away, the pink cat jumped in front of me and started doing some kind of bastard hybrid of a river dance and bellydancing. It basically looked like the Eastern European version of Shakira. I took another swig from my flask and pinched the bridge of my nose. "Fuck this gay earth," I slurred and pointed at the Exeggcute which was giving me a nasty look.

"Use Pin Missile on that sodding thing," I commanded Apollo. He looked at me lazily for a moment before actually moving.

Instead of running or hissing or anything even remotely close to bad ass, he merely fluffed up the pins on his back and strolled over to the Exeggcute, which he sat on without a sound. The small egg Pokemon began to squeak pathetically.

"Apollo, what the hell? It's Pin Missile and Pokemon are Japanese. I fully expect you to turn into a Transformer this instance and vaporize that fucking thing."

He ignored me and began to shake his ass a little. I sighed.

 

As I was walking away from the eggs and floating rat thing I heard the female trainer sputter some words. I turn around to see the mouse swirling around the trainer and the egg giving her some shitty looks. I laugh I mean who wouldn’t? I look at my Infernape to see he is laughing too, I swear he is a Pokemon version of me. I nudge him and tilt my head away from the group, attempting to get away from the creatures.

As I continued to walk away the eggs decided to throw a little rock at the back of my head. I grabbed my head and stormed towards the little shit and scream “You are going to get it. Mon, climb that tree and roast its ass with a Flamethrower.”

I look back at the Pokemon as my fire monkey was climbing a tree like a boss. “Get ready for the heat, because you are going to rot in hell!” My ape had reached the top of the tree in seconds flat. He’s a boss so he can do shit like that. His mouth opened and revealed a grin full of razor sharp teeth and a blue fiery ball forming at the back of his mouth.

He began to spew the oddly colored fire in the general direction of the eggs. I decide its now or never to introduce myself to the trainer. “The name is Halas,” I said still gripping the back of my head, “Sorry ‘bout earlier.”

The pair seemed to suddenly change their mind, and I realised then that Zolar was interested in catching this Exeggcute. "Use Pin Missile on that sodding thing," Alaska commanded Apollo, her Jolteon. The wild dog shook up its behind and plomped itself down on the Exeggcute, which squealed as the pins pierced its tough skin. Exeggcute rolled out of the way, all heads glaring at the Electric type mutt.

“Get ready for the heat, because you are going to rot in hell!” Halas roared as his blazing monkey clambered up one of the smaller trees. I sighed a little at the hyper-active Infernape as it turned around with a goofy smile plastered onto its face. The Infernape's mouth opened up and a few spheres of blue and gold shot out in the direction of the startled Exeggcute. Before it could hit however, the Mew shot in and took the brunt of the attack. I wasn't sure whether it was defending the Exeggcute that was being ganed up on, or if it just wanted to be the center of attention.

"I think you'll need to work together to take down both of these. Mew makes for a very versatile partner to Exeggcute," I said.
