Main RP: The Botanic Gardens

We continued walking down the edges of the plains. This part of the Gardens had almost looked like a jungle; nature in all its grace. After a while, Chain suddenly pointed out one of the arches in the path to me and we walked around it.

Once we got past it, a small rabbit-like Pokemon bounced up to us on its hind legs. It cried out a gentle greeting and bounced around my legs playfully. This wild Pokemon was definitely not afraid or shy to get close to humans. It could have been my empathy with Normal-type Pokemon, or simply because I did owned a Lopunny myself after all ... which would also be why I was not interested in another Buneary.

"Nah, no thanks, already have one," I replied, and prepared to move on.

For some reason Ataro didn't seem surprised that the Normal-type was very friendly. It probably had something to do with his past or his knowledge of the species, I wasn't sure which. Either way, he looked over to me and said "Nah, no thanks, already have one."

I nodded and said "Fair enough."

I started leading Ataro away down the path, but the Buneary squeaked and followed us, continuing to gambol around our legs as we traveled. I laughed and looked down at the white/cream Pokemon.

"I think it likes you a lot," I said to Ataro. "Are you sure you don't want to try to capture it? It's a friendly little bugger. If you really don't, I've got a PokeDoll here I can sell you."

I didn't like charging people for the PokeDolls, but the Park needed revenue somehow, and time and time again this had been shown as the most cost-effective method of drawing profits, so we decided to keep doing it. Besides, the Trainers rarely complained - they got to escape from a Pokemon they didn't want to battle. Everyone wins.

We started walking down the path, but the Buneary squeaked and continued to follow us instead. It sure was adamant enough. Times like this calls for a Pokedoll...

"I think it likes you a lot," Chain said. "Are you sure you don't want to try to capture it? It's a friendly little bugger. If you really don't, I've got a PokeDoll here I can sell you."

Though I felt a little bad for ignoring the Buneary's enthusiasm, I was really not interested in it since I was happy with my current Lopunny already. "Nah, it's okay. I have a Pokedoll here," I replied, and tossed the doll lightly towards the Buneary.

"Nah, it's okay. I have a Pokedoll here," Ataro said, and he pulled a small Clefairy-shaped plush doll out of his bag. He then tossed it underarm towards the small bunny, who caught it in midair. The bunny squeaked its thanks and hopped off on its hind legs back into the bushes the direction we had come from. There was almost no doubt in my mind that Ataro had a Lopunny - no Normal-type Trainer would have passed that Buneary up unless they had captured one before.

I decided to continue leading him down the path - we'd soon arrive in the flower gardens, from what I could remember. The stones crunched underneath our feet, which lulled me as I walked, but I soon realised there was another sound that was almost hidden by the repetitive crunching sound. It sounded rough and yet smooth at the same time.

Suddenly, a large green lump fell out of the tree in front of us and I realised what I had been hearing. Slithering. The large green lump uncoiled its sinuous form, revealing a white head and delicate yellow markings along its green tail. The Serperior hissed warningly at us - my best guess was it had a nest near here and was protecting its young from us as we were intruders in its territory. I hoped Ataro didn't feel like capturing it, but as a Ranger I had to offer any Pokemon we came across.

"Feel like battling this Serperior?" I asked Ataro, making sure my displeasure was present in my tone.

We continued walking the somewhat repetitive path. I was getting a littl tired and bored, but I was quite sure Chain was feeling the same way too. Just a few more encounters to go to see if there was anything good...

Suddenly, a Serperior coiled its way ahead of us. I was quite impressed with the encounter to be honest. Even though I could just purchase a Snivy in the Pokemart for 8,000 dollars, I wouldn't mind capturing a fully evolved one in the Park ... that is if I wasn't as tired as I was now.

As usual, Chain started asking me if I was interested in the Serperior - it definitely looked appealing, partly because of it's ability to possess the special skill called Contrary, but I didn't exactly feel like capturing one now. I shook my head to reply with a negative, whilst throwing a Pokedoll towards it at the same time. Then again, I had almost felt a slight tone of displeasure or annoyance in Chain's voice. It was probably just me though.

We stood completely still, with the exception of Ataro's hand inching towards his pack, no doubt to pull out a PokeDoll. Before he did, though, the Serperior slithered away into the bushes. No doubt it had decided we were not a threat. The Wild Pokemon here in the Park usually knew of us Rangers and respected us, but sometimes they wanted to battle or were feeling overly protective or were just too enraged to be logical. Thus, the PokeDolls.

I shrugged and led Ataro along the path. Finally, we arrived at the flower gardens. Flowers laid in small plots spread across the plains like a carpet. There were all different colours and shapes, and the flowers ranged in size from smaller than my thumb to larger than the randomly-planted trees. There were more flowers in the greenhouses, but they were the tropical ones that wouldn't prosper out here in the temperate climate.

Lots of rare Pokemon could be found here. I'd found Munchlax, Whimsicott, Deerling, and Petilil here before - hopefully I could find something cool for Ataro to take home.

I heard a repetitive thudding, and I turned to my left to see a Pokemon approaching us. It was bird-like, but with tiny wings and large legs. Its body was brown, but most interestingly, it had two heads. It was a Doduo, a reasonably common Pokemon here in the Gardens, but they weren't usually found here in the flower patch. Nonetheless, it was a Normal-type - perhaps Ataro wanted to catch it. I stepped backwards, silently asking him if he wanted to battle it.

We then arrived at some place that were filled with flower bushes all around. They were of different colors, shapes, and species - littered across the entire area richly. I sure hope the remaining wild Pokemon would be interesting enough as well.

Just then, a repetitive thudding started to resound, and we turned to our left to see a Doduo peeking at us. It was a popular fact that a Doduo that was squatting down looked like a Hitmonchan instead, and vice-versa. Though, it was a definite answer that it wasn't a Hitmonchan since we were in the gardens.

Chain stepped back and waited for my decision. Unfortunately, it was yet again, another species that I had already captured before. "I'll pass... again. Already have a Dodrio."

"Leo, I got something for you!" The new desk lady Christina called out. I quickly got up from my desk and ran towards her, if it was anything like this morning then it was going to be good. She winked at me and handed me a small file.

"What is this?" I grumbled.

"A new Trainer is coming into the park. He has never been here before." She responded.

"Oh, and you want me to scare him away?" I grinned, and tossed the file onto the desk. "Get someone else to do it, I'm busy with elite stuff." I walked back into my office and grabbed my Ranger supplies and quickly threw them into my backpack. If I wanted to get on her good side then I was going to have to take this run. I let out a loud whistle and a large black dog appeared within seconds. "We got to go boy." I said to Shadow, my Houndoom and partner Pokemon. "Then we can sneak over to the Outer Heavens."

I walked back out of my office and grabbed the file off of her desk. She just nodded and smile as I walked out of the rangers headquarters building. "Alright Shadow, we've got to get to the Botanical Gardens, shall I have Mindbender teleport us there now?" Shadow shook his head and pointed over towards Rex's dirt bike.

"Good idea." I said, a huge grin began to form on my face. "I'm sure he won't mind." I quickly hoped on and took off. Shadow made sure to follow besides me. Within minutes, we arrived at the gardens. It wasn't as hot as I expected, but it was a bit humid.

"I guess now we wait for out Trainer." I shrugged as I sat underneath a large tree. Shadow rested his head on my lap. I glanced at my watch and wondered when he was going to arrive.

"I'll pass, again." Ataro said. "Already have a Dodrio."

"Wow, you have a lot of Pokemon. Are there any ones you don't have?" I asked incredulously.

The Doduo padded up to us and took a good look. I thought it was about to demand a battle but something else back in the forest seemed to catch its eyes so it ran off in that direction. I shrugged and led Ataro forwards, closer to the flowers.

The first couple of patches were small-lying roses of red and blue, and didn't have anything interesting in them.The third patch, however, were like sunflowers but with big leaves on the stems that made a perfect place for small Pokemon to hide. Apparently, there was one in there, because it was ruffling the foliage around. I made a piercing whistle, and the hiding Pokemon jumped out.

It looked kind of like a squirrel or a flying fox, except its ears were huge. Its fur was entirely gray, except for the tips of its ears and tail, which were white. The Mincinno's ears twitched as it looked up at us, its small eyes quivering slightly.

"Want to try catching this little one, then?" I asked Ataro. There was no way he had one of these - they were incredibly rare.

I was running through the gardens as fast as I could, slightly nervous, as I tried to find my ranger. I had let Pidge out of his pokéball so he could search from the skies. Everything seemed to go by in a blur as I ran, so I missed the scenery.

It won't matter I thought, I'll be able to see it when I go to find my new friends.

Everyone had talked about the Park, how this island full of pokémon just magically appeared.

Too good to be true I thought before.

But when I arrived there it was a different story. I couldn't believe how many pokémon I had merely caught a glimpse of while I was here.

This is gonna be fun.

Then Pidge came back down to me, he had found the ranger, so he flew to a large tree and perched himself on a branch. As I walked over the ranger had taken no notice of me, or Pidge for that matter, possibly deep in thought.

"Pidge, return."

I had the ranger's attention now.

I felt my phone vibrate so I pulled it out. It was a message from Christina. I quickly clicked open, thinking it was something else, but she warned me that Rex was on his way over here to pick up his dirt bike. She also said that I might run into him because he was taking Siless on a park run here as well.

"Great, just what I needed." I said quietly. I placed my phone back in my pocket and looked at my watch. Five minutes had already gone by and my Trainer still wasn't here. I was about to radio in that he was a no show, but then I heard somthing.

"Pidge, return." It said. I looked up and saw a boy standing there with a Pokeball in his hand. Since many people weren't coming to the Botanical Gardens, I assumed he was Daniel.

"Oh, hey." I called out to him. i made my way over ahd shook his hand. "I'm Leo, and as you're probably guessing, I'll be your Ranger today. Whenever you are ready we can go." He gave a slight nod, so I assumed he was ready. I began to walk on the path, and motioned for him to follow me. We were barely four feet in when I spotted a small deer Pokemon eating grass a couple of feet away from us.

"There is a Deerling," I whispered to him, "Interested in capturing it?"

"Oh, hey" he called out to me.

He walked towards me and shook my hand. I'm glad he did, you can usually judge a person quite well based on a handshake, from him I judged him to be confident, but not cocky, and trustworthy.

"I'm Leo, and as you're probably guessing, I'll be your Ranger today. Whenever you are ready we can go."

I gave a nod, "Alright then."

So he turned around and began to walk on the path, he made a gesture for me to follow him. We hadn't walked two steps when we noticed a small deer Pokemon eating grass a small distance from us.

"There is a Deerling," he whispered, trying not to disturb it, "Interested in capturing it?"

"Deerling are quite an oddity aren't they? There's a lot of research going in to how they change their fur in the different seasons and how it could benefit other pokémon and us."

Leo seemed a little puzzled at how I knew so much.

"Sorry, my dad's a researcher, I'm hoping to follow in his footsteps some day and this little Deerling could be a great start with that and hopefully a great friend too, so let's do this! Go Polly!"

Out came my Empoleon, I was so proud of this magnificent penguin, my best friend for as long as I could remember. It gave out a loud cry which seemed to go unnoticed by the Deerling.

"Now Polly, we want this little guy to be our friend so don't hurt it too bad ok?"

Polly let out another cry letting me know he was ready for action.

"Ok now use Swords Dance then sneek up on it and use Whirl Pool!"

"Now Polly, we want this little guy to be our friend so don't hurt it too bad ok?" He said to his blue, crowned penguin Pokemon. Empoleon gave a quick nod and prepared for battle and his orders. "Ok now use Swords Dance then sneek up on it and use Whirlpool!" Polly, the name his Trainer gave him, began powering up. His claw-fin arm started glowing white as it grew larger. It was a sign that Swords Dance was taking its effect.

Empoleon then crept over towards Deerling. Once close enough, he formed a small tornado made of water and sucked the Deerling in. Deerling cried out in surprise, but after a few seconds, managed to break free. The small deer began launching football sized seeds at Empoleon, which made a small explosion on contact. I waited to see what else would happen. Deerling then began glowing green. The plants on its body began expanding. It was taking in sunlight and preparing for a Solarbeam attack. I wasn't sure how Empoleon would counter this, or how much damage he would take is this attack hit.

He was going to have to come up with something quick to either stop the attack, or at least weaken it a bit. Even though it looked small and delicate, this Deerling could sure kick ass. It sure didn't waste time either. I knew Daniel would think of something, but I wasn't sure if it would be fast enough to counter this attack.

Polly's arm began glowing white, I still hadn't gotten use to the glare that it gave off but Leo seemed to have no problem dealing with. Then Polly began silently sneaking over to the little Deerling. Polly produced a small whirlpool, just bigger than the Deerling, which sucked it in. The Deerling broke free, but it took some effort, the attack did some damage to it.

"Good job Polly! Keep it up!"

But before I could give any more orders, the deer-like pokémon sprang into action launching several seeds about the size of my head at Polly. He barely had a chance to react the sheer speed of the seeds was amazing.

"This guy could be a problem couldn't he?" I exclaimed.

The Deerling started glowing green, not as bright as Polly's glow had been so I didn't have to avert my eyes. The plants over its body started to grow, with a single flower starting to blossom.

"Crap, this is Solar Beam isn't it?"

Leo gave a slight nod.

"Great," I said, sarcasm oozing from my mouth, "well then Polly we need to do something about this! While it's still charging I want you to use Hydro Pump but aim at the ground so that you fly into the air and then position yourself so that on your way down you can hit it with a Drill Peck. That attack should weaken the Solar Beam or at least weaken it. Do you think you can do that buddy?"

Polly gave out a confident cry to signal me that he was ready to go.

Empoleon just nodded. The King Penguin Pokemon shot a large stream of water towards the ground, which in turn launched him into the air. Empoleon flew, sort of, towards Deerling. I couldn't help but to laugh. Not in the rude way, but I had just not seen an Empoleon fly, or act like it was flying. The idea though was pretty good.

Empoleon was now over Deerling and came plummeting down. As he did, the golden crown on his head began glowing bright white as he began spinning rapidly. At that moment, Deerling launched its Solarbeam attack at the temporarily flying Pokemon. The Solarbeam attack did hit Empoleon, but Drill Peck just cut on through as he slammed hard into Deerling with his attack. Once the attack finished, both Pokemon moved away from each other. Waiting for the other to make its move.

Polly shot a huge stream of water down at the ground forcing him upwards into the sky until he couldn't push out any more water. I started smiling, Leo laughed, Polly glided through the air, almost majestically, toward the Dearling.

"Huh, I wasn't sure if that was going to work or not, I've only ever seen it been done once, by that girl Green and her Blastoise, during the Pokémon League Tournament. But now that I know Polly can pull it off we're gonna work on it so he can make the most of it."

With that Polly was almost directly above the Dearling and just in time too, it had just about charged it's Solar Beam, the flower on it's back now in full bloom, it was beautiful really, which made me want it all the more.

"Now Polly!"

Polly started spinning, spinning so rapidly, that he was just a blur, that could barely be made out. But one thing I could make out was that his horns, the three huge horns that he had taken a lot of pride in, had started glowing. But at the same time the Dearling had unleashed it's Solar Beam, aimed directly at Polly. It didn't matter though, Polly cut straight through it with his Drill Peck as he descended at high speed towards the Dearling, only taking somewhat minor damage in the process then managing to land a direct hit on the little dear.

They both jumped away from eachother, Polly awaiting a command from me, the Dearling waiting to see what would happen next.

"Hmmm, you're gonna need to be quick, Polly for what I'm about to tell you to do to work."

Polly gave a nod, confident in himself, as I was in him.

"First, I want you to use swagger and confuse her, and as soon as you've done that use growl. Then use Metal Claw and get away from it as quickly as you can, who knows what it could do when it's confused. You got all that?"

A nod to me signalled he was ready.

"Huh, I wasn't sure if that was going to work or not, I've only ever seen it been done once, by that girl Green and her Blastoise, during the Pokémon League Tournament. But now that I know Polly can pull it off we're gonna work on it so he can make the most of it." I hadn't seen that one, but it must have been good. I always liked watching other people's battles to learn things that I could use in my battles.

"Hmmm, you're gonna need to be quick, Polly for what I'm about to tell you to do to work. First, I want you to use Swagger and confuse her, and as soon as you've done that use Growl. Then use Metal Claw and get away from it as quickly as you can, who knows what it could do when it's confused. You got all that?"

Empoleon nodded. It seemed like a lot to do, I wasn't quite sure how this would be pulled off. Confusing Deerling with Swagger was incredibly risky, especially if Deerling used Jump Kick or Seed Bomb or any physical attack. He was going to have to high-tail it out of there really fast.

Empoleon began glowing a dark red color. Deerling saw this and became angry and confused. I guessed it was because of the red color, it is known to make people experience the angry feeling. I didn't get why, but the brain works that way. I could tell Deerling was confused by the way she was thrashing her head.

Empoleon then let out a loud, menacing growl. Deerling was immediately frieghtened because it couldn't see clearly so it didn't know what was happening. Deerling just lowered itself to the ground. I took it as a sign of her defense dropping. The large crowned pengiun lunged forward, claw glowing a silver color as he slashed down hard on Deerling. As soon as he touched her though, she immediately kick him hard with her back legs. It was a strong Double Kick. Empoleon quickly retreated, but took some damage. I knew this battle was nearing its end.

Polly began glowing a crimson colour, making the Deerling both angry and confused, this seemed to be a natural reaction from a lot of different pokémon but I still wasn't sure why, I was going to have to do some research on it. I knew it was going to be risky, it knowing Jump Kick was a liability, but one that could hopefully be avoided. Deerling was shaking her head vigorously, she was definitely confused.

With that Polly knew what he had to do, he let out a threatening growl. The Deerling must have been afraid, she couldn't see so she just lowered herself slowly to the ground, almost like she was in the fetal position. It was almost as if Polly had pounced on her, his claw glowing a silvery colour as he slashed down on the Deerling, which to me seemed to look amazing in contrast to the earlier crimson.

But Polly wasn't fast enough, she must have knew it was coming because she readied a Double Kick with her back legs that hit just as the Metal Claw did. Polly fell back, it seemed that did quite a bit more damage than any previous attack. The Deerling knew the battle was coming to an end and it seemed like she was going to give this everything she had.

"Polly use Whirlpool one more time and try and hold her for as long as you can but if she breaks free get away from her as fast as you can and avoid her attacks as best as possible ok?"

The same nod as before, he knew what he had to do.

"Wow, you have a lot of Pokemon. Are there any ones you don't have?" Chain asked.

I detected a funny tone in his voice - not sure if it was just a no-harm-intended sarcasm joke, or simply mere annoyance. Regardless, the Doduo ran off in another direction, just like the rest of the wild Pokemon that we have met so far. We continued walking closer towards the flowers; to which I forced myself to drag my foot forward. Not only was I tired, I was also getting bored, but I was quite sure my ranger was feeling the same way.

Suddenly, a rustling sound came out from one of the flower bushes like what you see on television, and a Pokemon jumped out of it. It resembled some sort of a small squirrel with large ears, and it was definitely one of the more adorable Normal-type Pokemon out there. A Minccino.

"Want to try catching this little one, then?" Chain asked me.

He almost sounded so confident when asking me that question, as if he had assumed that I didn't have a Minccino in my collection yet. This was especially so because Minccino was one of the newly discovered Unova Pokemon. Though unfortunately, I already had one. When it was first discovered, I scurried off like some desperate kid and spent all of my effort to look for the first ever Minccino, and it had already evolved into a Cinccino now.

Then, a voice started to sound in my head. It seemed to be convincing me to catch it in order to trade it to my ranger - it was weird - I was hearing voices in my head. Oh well, I decided to shrug it off and just attempt to catch one. I was quite sure if I tried to run away from this Pokemon again, my ranger might feel annoyed. :XD2:

"Okay Smeargle, it's your turn! Start out by locking its position with a Mean Look, then quickly boost your attack and speed power with a Dragon Dance!" I shouted while throwing out a Pokeball at the same time.

My painter-like Pokemon appeared and sparkled in a glitter light, and had immediately drew the shape of a menacing eye with her tail that was smudged with red ink. It was no ordinary species. The menacing eye started to take form and was starting to glow in a sinister dark. Soon, it would activate and scare the opponent; preventing it from running away - sometimes even preventing it from moving. Dragon Dance was next.
