The durable Pokeball hit the Sableye in her forehead and turned her a transparent ref and sucked her back into the Parkball. Kiryu waited till it stopped shaking and clicked before he walked over to it and picked it up. Smiling a bit, he chuckled and tossed it to Saki and she caught it with her Psychic. With a bit more concentration, the ball vanished in a mix of rainbow light. "Don't worry. Saki here just teleported the ball to the out to the outpost in case something should happen to me and you. We can collect it on the way out." He used this method to help eliminate any chance of losing the Park ball along the length of the journey. Once Saki had correctly put it in the mini safe, she gave him a content mew and he nodded. "Let's move on further shall we?" He continued along the pathway and turned his head towards the woman for a bit, walking along side her for a bit to easy any tension among them. "So what exactly are you looking for in the park? Perhaps it can give me an idea of where we should head next after all?"

Both Sela and Flutter were eyeing Sigilyph as we moved away, ready to turn away any sneak attacks. Sigilyph didn’t seem at all bothered that Siless wasn’t interested in it, though, and as we headed towards the caves, it simply flapped its wings and went to rejoin its flock. I would have been lying if I’d said I wasn’t relieved, because Sigilyph could be quite tricky to battle if they were determined.

Once Sigilyph was gone, Flutter landed on my shoulder again and Siless hit Play on his PokePlayer. For a fourth time, the cry of Gothita filled the air. However, as with the last three times, there was no response from this next playback of the Pokemon’s cry. We arrived at the mouth of the caves as the last echoes of the cry faded away.

“Once we get into the caves, the sound will echo further and we might manage to draw one out for you,” I told the Trainer, motioning absently towards the darkness before us. At that moment I heard a low growl and focused on the darkened mouth of the cave. Flutter made a soft chittering noise as her wings tensed, ready to launch off my shoulder and lay down some Sleep Powder if need be.

A moment later a large, blue-purple Dragon emerged from the cave. Its neck was black and a series of black horns crowned its face and neck, looking almost like its head from blooming from a flower. In place of paws on its arms it had two smaller heads, and six long, slender wings pumped the air to keep it aloft. Its hind legs were more like ragged fins, and a muscular tail hung down behind it. Black eyes with lavender irises stared at us as the large Pokemon growled again.

“Hmmmmmm, not sure what you wanna do with this one, but if you don’t want it, let me know,” I muttered to Siless. “Hydreigon here in the Park are normally pretty laid back compared to your normal Wild Hydreigon found elsewhere, but a couple have been known to take it the wrong way when Trainers pass them up.”

Hydreigon was… powerful. It was the highest-tier evolution of a family of Dark/Dragon types, and not only did its type put me at a disadvantage (its Dark type was strong against both Psychic and Ghost, and its Dragon Type was strong defensively as well), but it had the power to back it up. If we fought it, it could very well stop our run here.

"I'll… pass. Hydreigon is too much for me to handle at the moment." I turned to Sela before attempting to leave. "Be prepared to protect yourself with a Hypnosis attack. This Pokémon can rip us apart if it catches us off-guard."

After successfully catching Sableye and having her PokeBall sent back to the Ranger Outpost, my new Ranger asked if there was anything in particular that I was looking for. I thought about it for a moment while Ripper slowed down, his clones fading away as he relaxed from the short but tense battle with Sableye. Above me I heard Ironbreak screeching; the large eagle landed a few feet away from Ripper a moment later and the two proceeded to strike up a brief conversation. It didn’t last long, and Ironbeak launched himself into the air to follow us from the sky. Ripper buzzed along beside us, using his wings to boost his speed and keep up with us easier.

“Well, I came looking for Ghosts,” I started after several minutes of thinking, “but now that I think about it, I probably don’t need too many more. A friend of mine is trying to become Gym Leader of Ecruteak, you see, and she asked me to get some good Ghosts for her. The thing is, she already owns practically every Ghost Pokemon save for unevolved Pokemon and Legends.” I chuckled a little at that, imagining the look on my pal’s face if she were randomly presented with Darkrai. Not that she’d be able to use him in Gym Battles even if, by some miracle, she ever got her hands on the Legend. “So I’m thinking that other than Sableye, I might be in the market for a couple of strong Psychic Pokemon. I need a few solid Psychic Pokemon to help round out my team, and I have a few friends who are always looking for Psychics.”

I then peered up at Ironbeak, watching as the majestic bird flew along above us. I briefly thought about calling him down and asking him to keep an eye out for anything that might look like a good addition to the team, but that was hardly fair. Anyways, even if Ironbeak found something, there’d be a good chance that it would move on before we reached it.

Siless opted to pass up the Hydreigon, and I couldn’t say that I blamed him. Hydreigon were known for being violent powerhouses, and having only Pokemon weak to the Dragon’s Dark typing could spell disaster for the Trainer and his Pokemon. Sela was ordered to have a Hypnosis at the ready as we cautiously passed Hydreigon. The large beast grumbled as we passed it, but didn’t try to attack or delay us. After a second it flew off, most likely to find something to eat, and we were able to pass without worry of the Dragon changing its mind and lashing out at the last moment.

We headed inside, but barely got more than twenty or so feet before a small, dark-brown creature came spinning into view from further down the path. It had two long arms and red circles around serenely closed eyes, and on its head was a small horn. Its lower body ended in a point, like a top, and it was floating about a foot off the rocky cave floor. It came to a stop about five feet away from us and simply hovered in the middle of the path, as though it was blocking the way.

“Well, I don’t know what this little fella wants, but if you’ve ever wanted a Baltoy, now would be the time to snag one,” I commented. Before us Baltoy simply spun in place, moving completing a turn every few seconds.

Baltoy was a much more welcome opponent than Hydreigon was, as we could at least hold our own against it. I hadn't planned on coming across one, but I wasn't against having one, and it looked as though coming across a Gothita was unlikely at this point; the longer a disk played, the more likely Pokémon were to ignore it. Baltoy was a good Pokémon, and I was willing to get it; I was just not expecting to get one today. However, I had the opportunity, and there really was no reason not to go for it.

Baltoy evolves into Claydol, which excels with its defense and ability to aid the team with support moves. Its typing hurt, however, giving it weaknesses to common attacking types such as Water. Still, as Sela's backup, it could guarantee that whatever aid the party needs would be available. Missy would be able to take advantage of Baltoy's Ghost-type weakness, and her Levitate would make Baltoy's Ground-type attacks almost worthless. Sela didn't have the natural skill with Ghost-type attacks (though still had one available), though not only could she Trace Baltoy's Levitate to have the same advantage as Missy from her ability, but her own Psychic type was resistant to Baltoy's Psychic-type attacks. For this, I decided to have Sela battle again, opting for endurance over damage output, as there were still plenty of possible battles to take advantage of a weakened party.

"Sela, you ready to battle?" My Gardevoir nodded, and she began to draw in the energy of Baltoy's Levitate to use it as her own; though she had the ability to ignore gravity by virtue of the strength of her psychic powers, Levitate would provide her with much more mobility and control in the air than her own powers allowed for.

"Let's let Baltoy make the first move. We should see what it's capable of and react to it." Any information we could get against it would help us in the battle ahead.

Baltoy’s spinning halted abruptly when it noticed the odd sensation of its Ability, something that defined its nature, being siphoned from. It raised its long arms, waving them in what was obvious panic as its passive ability to levitate was weakened by this draw on its Ability, dropping it to the ground. It landed on its single pointed foot and hopped in an ungainly manner, having to use its Psychic powers to steady itself. It then focused on Sela and held its arms out towards her, as if beseeching a hug.

It soon proved to be something more sinister, though, when the Pokemon emitted threads of blue-purple psionic energy from its arms. These sank into the cave floor, and the solid stone was reduced to fine grit by the sheer force of the mental force moving through it. This was then stirred into a violently-whirling cloud when Baltoy snapped the tendrils of psychic power into the air. Having performed its Sandstorm attack, the little Pokemon hopped once, moving into the cloud and vanishing from sight.

“Who knows what it’s getting ready to do in there,” I commented lightly as Flutter made an unhappy chittering sound, eyeing the Sandstorm with disdain. Her wings were far too delicate to ever be subjected to such treatment, and it was obvious she didn’t like the thought of Sela possibly having to venture into it, either. “Might be a good idea to take this moment to prepare. Baltoy can be tricky little buggers.”

Sandstorm, if it continued, would prove to be a great problem, as the constant beating on Sela and the reduced visibility would put Sela at a great disadvantage compared to Baltoy, who commonly made its home in deserts where this type of weather occurred often. I was too late to stop the Sandstorm attack from taking place, and I could only think of one thing that could stop the Sandstorm itself without waiting it out.

"Sela, use a Rain Dance to clear out the sand!" Rain Dance normally conjured a small number of rain clouds over the battlefield to forcibly change the weather. It couldn't exactly have the same effect inside; instead, the clouds were normally forcibly created on the battlefield. For the purposes of moves and abilities, this cloud (which practically amounted to mist or fog) had the same effect as rain. None of the members of my team dedicated to taking advantage of this fact were with me, but I had a different use for it; the now-abundant dust particles in the air would prove to be a great condensation platform for the massive amount of water vapor Rain Dance creates, forming the sandstorm into drops of water that, hopefully, couldn't be carried by Baltoy's Sandstorm attack anymore.

Sela braced herself, and then began stepping and spinning to a beat contained within her own mind; I heard bits and pieces of it through the mental channels we use to attempt to communicate, but just as all but the most focused of messages were distorted with our inexperience, so was this beat. Whatever it was, she moved with a fierce determination, and she wasn't going to let Baltoy stop her until she had reached her goal.

The steel and flying type flew above their heads and continually scanned the area for anything of value. Both him and Kiryu had fairly keen eye sight. The Skarmory screeched loudly as it came across a small moving bush in the north eastern corridor. It was a cavern that would lead into a more wooded area of the Valley. Upon reaching the entrance, the same bush rustled again and that made Kiryu curious. He moved over to the bush but it rustled more this time and out popped a Ralts, a psychic Pokemon that could evolve into two great fighters. Problem which one would be the best for her. We'd leave that in the hands of the Trainer.

"So Miss Shaundra, it seems we've found a Ralts. Perhaps you'd like to battle this little one?"

Siless ordered Sela to counter Baltoy’s Sandstorm with a Rain Dance, a move that usually worked better outside but could come in handy no matter the surroundings. Sela steeled herself after receiving the command, then strode into the scouring whirlwind of dirt and debris. Flutter chittered faintly, as if concerned for the larger Pokemon, and I patted her head gently as the Gardevoir was swallowed by the swirling grit.

A few moments later, I noticed a definite increase in the humidity of the cave, but then it quickly started to vanish and the air became extremely dry. Above the improvised Sandstorm I noticed a thick fog beginning to form, and it quickly formed into a heavy, dark cloud. A few drops of rain fell from the cloud, and then a soft yet steady amount of rain started falling. This was the result of all the moisture in the air being compressed into a small area, and within moments the dirt particles had become bogged down by the water. In a few moments, the Sandstorm was replaced with Rain, making the cave floor slick and turning most of the Sandstorm into sticky mud.

Baltoy and Sela were revealed not long after the Rain Dance started washing away the Sandstorm, and Baltoy was clearly not pleased with its idea being shot down so easily. It seemed like it didn’t appreciate direct conflict, which became obvious when the little doll-like Pokemon began to spin rapidly. Mud flew in all directions as the Pokemon quickly started to tunnel into the cave floor, vanishing a few moments later as it prepared to unleash a Dig attack.

“Seems like someone likes to play it cautiously,” I commented. “It doesn’t seem to realize it’s fighting another Psychic though, so being sneaky probably isn’t the way to go here. Who knows, though? Maybe this style of battling has won it more battles than we can guess.”

Dig wasn't really what I wanted to see; it put Baltoy out of range of most of our attacks and required us to wait for it to come back to be able to attack it. The only other option would be to dive into the hole it dug after it, but that would put Sela in a claustrophobic situation while giving Baltoy an extreme advantage. The best we could do was try to draw it out and catch it off guard.

"Sela, I have an idea." This was probably one of the more complicated ideas to communicate I'd have this run, as well as one of the most complicated to execute. While explaining myself, I tried to conjure clear mental images for Sela to access so she could get a better, quicker understanding of what my plan was.

"I need you to use Psychic to make Baltoy think you are in a different area when it attacks." With this, I thought of the ground ahead of us, slight disturbances being made by our movement. With Sela levitating mostly through her mental power, the forces she would exert on the ground would be minimal; we'd be able to mask her actual movements and make psychic shockwaves elsewhere to make it seem like she's moving where the shockwaves are. I had no clue how Baltoy sensed things underground, and the Psychic-like tendencies of the Pokémon could make it more aware of the situation than what I made it out to be.

"Charge up a Shadow Ball while we're waiting, and try to hit Baltoy as soon as it comes out. Just be wary in case it attacks where you actually are." Shadow Ball would hit hard thanks to those very Psychic-like tendencies that could mess up the first part of the plan. If the attack connected, we'd have a great advantage in terms of damage; even if Baltoy connected with Dig, its physical attack power was low compared to Sela's special power, and Sela already took on a Dark-type effectively without exhausting herself in the process. Sela would probably need a break after this battle, but she was doing excellently so far, and though Baltoy was a bit frustrating with Sandstorm and Dig, I couldn't foresee it being a problem against her.

I shook that last thought out of my head. I had confidence in Sela, yes, but I had to keep my mind open, both to the battle and to her. If I missed something, I would be putting my Pokémon at risk, and though Sela, being in the middle of the fight, could easily catch things I couldn't, it wouldn't do me much good if I blocked it off with overconfidence. I focused myself back on the battle, trying to catch wherever Baltoy came up; to hit Baltoy, we had to know where it was, and it wouldn't help if we weren't paying attention to the battle.

Sela went to carry out the orders given to her, her brow furrowing just a little as she concentrated on using her Psychic powers to try and fool Baltoy into thinking she was somewhere she wasn’t. There was a good chance it would work; with several feet of dirt and stone separating it from its target, there was a good chance Baltoy’s own psionic abilities wouldn’t be able to assist it in pinpointing Sela. It would have to rely solely on the vibration picked up by the small horn on its head.

While waiting for Baltoy to reveal itself, Sela also began to power up a Shadow Ball. It was only a few seconds later that the ground started to shake, gently at first, but quickly building in strength until it felt like a concentrated earthquake was gripping the area. Large cracks started to appear in the stone floor of the cave, and then numerous long spikes of rock started to jut into the air. Thanks to having Levitate, Sela was able to rise into the air with no strain on her Psychic powers, thus avoiding the Earth Power attack. A moment later Baltoy’s head popped out of one of the larger cracks; it was obviously looking for Sela, most likely trying to find out why it was no longer sensing her moving around and checking to see if she was fainted or gone.

Sela didn’t waste any time taking advantage of the moment. She lobbed the Shadow Ball, striking Baltoy right in the back of the head. The force of the collision was enough to throw Baltoy forward; it struck the edge of the crack and flipped upside down, sliding a few feet on its back before coming to a halt. Slowly lowering back down to the cave floor, the Gardevoir looked ready to handle whatever Baltoy was going to do next.

Baltoy spent a few moments trying to get up, but it quickly gave up and instead rolled to the nearest crack. It vanished into the fissure, only to pop up out of the ground a moment later several feet from Sela. As it hovered in the air for a moment, its eyes began glowing with an eerie reddish-purple haze. With no warning twin beams of multi-colored light then burst forth, both speeding towards Sela.

Baltoy bounced away after being hit by the Shadow Ball. After that blow, it seemed to be considerably winded, even more so than Sela, who had a battle with a Dark-type prior to engaging against Baltoy. It was a relief to know that we were on top of the battle so far, but we didn't have time to relax; Baltoy recovered itself and counterattacked with two psychic beams.

Sela could certainly take the blows without too much damage; her Psychic-type resistance and her defenses geared towards taking blows similar to the Special ones she deals out would minimize any harm that Psybeam would do. However, it would still hurt, and every little bit of health counted when you weren't sure how many more battles you would have to participate in before a proper rest. Having Sela take the blow mindlessly would just be stupid; it would be much better to try to divert the attack with a counter or to simply get out of the way. And while I had confidence in Sela's Psychic strength being able to overwhelm Baltoy's, getting her out of the way was simply better unless it created a huge opening to hit Baltoy with, which at the moment we didn't need enough to risk it.

"Sela, to the left!" I left it up to Sela whether she Teleported to get out of the way or not; it took minimal energy for her, as it was one of her most basic techniques, but by keeping Baltoy in her sights she could jump on the offensive quicker if needed.

"Trap Baltoy with a Grass Knot!" This attack forcibly grew grass under the target to try and trip them up. Baltoy was floating, so tripping was nearly impossible; instead, Sela could use the grown grass to bind Baltoy to the ground, possibly even holding it still if it tried to dig away. It required more energy than normal though; Baltoy's levitation put it out of range of Grass Knot's reach normally, so more effort would have to be put into growing it.

It wasn’t long before we came upon my second encounter at Meteor Valley. It turned out to be a Ralts, and I didn’t have to think very long at all before deciding to go for it. I already had a Gallde, who traded in a pure Psychic Pokemon’s weakness to Dark for neutral damage to that type while gaining a weakness to Flying-typed attacks. Having a pure Psychic that could stand against strong Flying Pokemon wasn’t a bad thing to have, and I only had a small number of reliable Psychic Pokemon to begin with, so catching another would certainly be fine. And if I happened to come across other Pokemon while visiting the Park, I could always let the Ralts go and claim whatever else I found.

I took a few moments to consider my options as I studied the serene-looking little Pokemon. It was the size of a young child and had ivory skin, looking very much like a toddler with lush lime-green hair that obscured its eyes. It had one large, round horn jutting from its forehead, as well as a second smaller one growing from the back of its skull. These were rarely, if ever, used for offensive purposes, instead acting as conduits for a Ralts to perceive the emotions of others. This one had horns that were a pale shade of salmon, as well as hair that obscured about three-quarters of its face instead of roughly half, marking this particular specimen as a female.

As I watched the Ralts standing there, I might have looked slightly unfocused and bemused, but I was actually processing various ideas and possibilities. Namely I was trying to decide who to use for the battle against this Pokemon. Ripper would normally be my first choice; not only would his Bug typing give him a type advantage over Ralts, but a Ralts could only learn a very, VERY small number of moves that would deal even neutral damage against Ripper’s steel exoskeleton, and only one (that being Fire Punch) that would do effective damage. Ralts in general had very lacking abilities in terms of Attacking strength, though, so even a Fire Punch would probably easily be brushed off by a Pokemon like Ripper, whose species naturally had a very high Defense stat.

The issue was that Ripper had already fought one battle, and it had only been a short time ago. He hadn’t really had time to rest up properly, and even though the battle had been short and he hadn’t taken much damage, I didn’t want to push him to the point where he got exhausted. This was supposed to be a fun trip for us all, and being so fatigued you couldn’t move was no fun at all when you needed to walk around everywhere.

I could always use Ironbeak, whose Sheer Force would let him strike hard with moves that normally had a secondary effect at the sacrifice of that secondary effect happening. Since he could fly he could attack from the air, making it harder for Ralts to attack unless she wanted to Teleport all over the place after him, which wouldn’t exactly be practical, and most likely wouldn’t be something the Pokemon would bother with. Of course, Ironbeak was very strong even without his Sheer Force, to the point that I was concerned with using him in case he struck too hard and knocked Ralts out.

Then there was Kilia, my Absol. Being a Dark Pokemon meant she would be completely immune to Ralts’s Psychic moves, robbing the Pokemon of the attacks it was most familiar with using and would get the most out of. Dark-typed Pokemon also had a natural advantage over Psychic Pokemon since Psychics were weak to Dark attacks. Unfortunately, Kilia was an extremely quirky creature; sometimes I could barely predict what she would do or how she would perform attacks she was given. Not only that, but like Ripper and Ironbeak, her Attack stat was insane, and one attack that was just a BIT too strong could knock Ralts out. This was even more of a threat with Kilia than my other Pokemon, thanks to her Super Luck ability. This allowed her to find the weak spots on a foe much easier, landing critical hits more often than other Pokemon. While useful in battle, it was hardly what we wanted to happen here, where knocking something out made it unfit for capture.

Finally, there was Flutter, my outgoing Venomoth. Like Ripper and Kilia, she had a natural advantage over Ralts since she was a Bug Pokemon, but she was also Poison-typed, meaning she would take extra damage from Ralts’s Psychic attacks. In all honesty I wasn’t too concerned with that, though; Flutter knew Quiver Dance, a move that boosted the user’s Speed, Special Attack, and Special Defense stats, as well as Roost, which allowed her to rest for a moment in order to regain up to half her health. She would be able to stat up a little and then recover her hit points, letting her shrug off Ralts’s attacks like they weren’t super-effective at all. On top of that, she, like Ironbeak, could fly around to avoid Ralts’s attacks.

Making my choice, I recalled Ripper and pulled Flutter’s PokeBall free, releasing the lavender-bodied insect from the orb in a brief yet bright burst of white light. She flittered about my head as she materialized, chittering happily as she flew around. Eventually she landed on my shoulder and rubbed her head on my cheek, then took wing again and flew over to greet Ironbeak, who had landed on a large stone nearby. The two bumped foreheads before Flutter greeted my Ranger and his Pokemon, and after all that was done, she flew over to say hello to Ralts. She then thought better of it, not knowing the Wild Pokemon’s personality, and instead flew back over to me to land on my shoulder again.

“Silly,” I chuckled, reaching up to pat her head. She made a jovial chirping noise, then gave her wings a powerful flap to show she was ready to get on with the battle. I laughed again and nodded, pausing just long enough to get an idea of what to do before giving the Venomoth her commands. “Okay, so here’s what we’ll do. We’re going to try and get this over with as quickly as possible to try and keep your hit points intact. First, lay down a good layer of Sleep Powder to knock Ralts out, or at the very least make her so drowsy she can’t concentrate properly on attacking. After that, bolster your Speed and Special Defense with a Quiver Dance, then go in for a Psychic.”

Flutter gave a shrill, brief chitter to acknowledge her orders, launching off my shoulder as she flew over to Ralts. My plan was a simple one; knock Ralts out so she couldn’t attack or counterattack, then have Flutter get in a Quiver Dance so she could withstand any Psychic attacks Ralts managed to fire off. Finally, we were going with Psychic as our offensive move because it was one of the safest options, since Ralts would have a natural resistance to it. Even with her Tinted Lens ability boosting the strength of moves that weren’t very effective, and her Special Attack being increased by Quiver Dance, Psychic was still one of the moves least likely to do enough damage to knock Ralts out while still dealing a fair amount. There was a chance that it could drop Ralts’s Special Defense and make her even more susceptible to Flutter’s Special attacks, but the chance of that happening was low enough that I wasn’t too concerned by it. Even if we should be that unlucky, Flutter had a few basic attacks she could use that would deal minimal damage, even with a boosted Special Attack stat on her end and a lowered Special Defense for Ralts.

As she flew over to Ralts, Flutter began flapping her wings in what would appear to be an erratic manner to those not familiar with the moths. It would seem like she should crash, but Venomoth had evolved to specially stay in the air even with their wings going every which way. This allowed them to shed specialized scales from their wings; there were different scales that would only be shed if a Venomoth’s wings were beat in a certain way. This rather crazy tempo shook free loose scales that had a power sedative coating them; when breathed in, the sedative entered the victim’s bloodstream and quickly knocked them out. The scales themselves looked like purple-colored snow as they fell from Flutter’s wings, and the sunlight hit a few of them in such a manner that it reflected from their surfaces, casting tiny rainbows into the air.

If we were lucky and Ralts got a full dose of Sleep Powder, she would be under within moments. If such was the case, Flutter would move on to her Quiver Dance. Each Pokemon had their own unique way of using this move, and in Flutter’s case it was actually quite unnerving to watch. Basically she would land on the ground and hold her wings straight up; her entire body would then seize up and begin to tremble. At first it would barely be noticeable, but it would quickly get stronger until her whole body was shaking almost violently, like she was being gripped by a powerful seizure. She would then spread her wings and proceed to sway back and forth, almost as if horrendously dizzy, and all the while her wings would be rapidly beating. This lasted several seconds, when she would abruptly fall still for another second or two. The first time I had seen her use this move, I had been scared out of my mind, thinking that something had happened and she was actually dying. When I realized she was okay, I had been too shaken by the show and had needed to forfeit the battle we’d been in. I had then promptly taken her to a PokeCenter to have her checked out and been assured that Flutter’s way of performing Quiver Dance was perfectly normal and safe. It had been months before I’d felt comfortable enough with it to have her use it again, though.

Finally would be Psychic, if things went as planned. Flutter was usually most comfortable with attacking from the air, but since she would be grounded by Quiver Dance, there was a chance she might just attack from the ground. The three horns growing from her head would radiate a powerful Psychic aura, one that would be easily visible as a maroon-colored haze around her upper skull. The haze would condense into an orb, which would then be launched at Ralts.

With the right amount of luck, we could finish this battle without Flutter taking a single hit.

I was in a frantic state of affairs. Work had picked up and I was in the middle of finishing paperwork when another run came across my desk. I was excited because it beat doing paperwork, but it also meant I would be spending another day out in the field in an area that I was not fond of, Meteor Valley.

For some reason I just didn’t like going there, and it was the place I had been to most since becoming a ranger. I didn’t mind the Ghost and Dark types that lived there, but the environment was just ugly/ But I had a job to do, and I was going to do it no matter if I hated the place.

I finished scratching my signature on some papers stating where I was going and who I was with. Once that was done I dropped it off in the outgoing box and grabbed all my gear. I strapped it on as I walked into the transportation tile. In the blink of an eye I was a the front gates leading to the Meteor Valley. Tiberius wasn’t there so I decided to study his file while I waited for him to show up.

“Well I guess all this fog means were close to Meteor Valley what do you think”

    “Scizor”

Scizor had that look on her face she new that soon she get a chance to knock the light out of some unlucky pokemon in the Valley, but she would have to wait until we got there. I took out Scizors containment ball, and had her return to it. I took out my pokedex as I started to walk up the trail I checked the map on it the Ranger outpost was not far from were was. I got up the trail when someone come into my site, I could not who it was but I had a feeling that it was a Park Ranger, and if so the fun was about to begin.

It wasn’t long before I spotted the young man coming up the trail to the valley. I waved a greeting to him and waited for him to get closer within hearing range.

“Hey, welcome to Meteor Valley.” I shook his hand admitted us to the park.

Meteor Valley was a grassy valley flanked by rocky flanks filled with caves galore. Ghost and Dark types loved this place, with a few other species scattered about. I found that most people came here for Abra, Murkrow, and Gastly. All were pretty good Pokemon and ranked among the powerful ranks.

“Well, let’s see what we can find.” I consulted my iPad and saw that he had brought along a Pokeplayer with a Gastly voice disk. “I see you are trying to find a Gastly. If so you might want to start that disc playing,” I suggested.

Before he could reply I heard a soft bouncing coming from the trail. I looked up to see the green form of a Reuniclus coming down the trail. The Pokemon waved one of its jello like limbs at us.

“Wow, a good start to your run,” I said to Tiberius. “You want one?”

I got all the way up the trail, and sure enough it was a Park Ranger at the top. I walked up to him, and he shook my hand welcoming me to Meteor Valley. My Rangers name was Gaius Tyrannius after I shook his hand he took out a ipad, he then suggested I start my pokeplayer if I wanted to find a Gastly but before he could finish a bouncing sound come from the trail. When I turned around a jello like pokemon was coming down the path, I took out my pokedex to what it was. The pokemon was a Reuniclus. Then my Ranger ask me if I wanted it.

“No I don’t I would like to get one, but not now I’m going to use a pokedoll”

I sat down, and took out one of my pokedoll and through it at Reuniclus. Then I took out my pokeplayer, and opened the tray I popped opened my DVD case, and took out the Voice Disc for Gastly, I then put it in the player, and pushed play on it.

“No, I don’t. I would like to get one, but not now, I want to use a Pokedoll.”

“Alright, let’s see if the Pokemon will leave us alone.” I made a shooing motion at the Psychic Pokemon but it simply continued to stare at us. The didn’t want to leave.

I heard a sigh come from Tiberius as he passed over a Pokedoll. I took the plush toy from him, gave it a squeeze, and tossed it at the Reuniclus. The wild Pokemon immediately went after the doll, clearing the path.

“Let’s go to the lake at the end of the valley,” I said to the client.

I wanted to go this way because a wide assortment of Pokemon visited the valley floor to forage and I was sure we would run across a few good Pokemon.

We hadn’t gone very far from the spot where our first encounter was when a rustling in the grass garnered my attention. It was a small Purrloin chasing a field mouse.

“A Purrloin, they’re common in these parts.”

Sela, being a Psychic Pokemon, was more at home doing things via the power of her mind. When Siless ordered her to dodge to the left, the Emotion Pokemon vanished from sight as she retreated into the space between space. The Psybeam passed where she’d been a moment later, and in almost the same instant, Sela reappeared to the left of the attack. She then swung her arms up, using her psionic ability to forcibly grow plants from the ground. Since there was no grass in the cave, it turned out to be mushrooms, their growth pushed into a frenzied overdrive by Sela’s mental goading as well as the rain still falling over the battlefield.

Baltoy was completely unprepared for this sort of counterattack, and the variety of mushrooms shot up to ensnare the lower half of its body. It flailed about for a moment, thrown off-balance by its struggling and the immobility caused by the fungi twined around it; it tipped over backwards and thrashed about even more, confused and clearly desperate to escape a trap it had obviously never encountered before.
