"A wide, deep valley at the bottom of two large hills. This valley is dozens of miles long and flanked on both sides by thick trees. There are caves in the sides of the hills and dozens of boulders and piles of stone strewn all over. The grass is knee-high here and there are hundreds of flowers. At the northern end of the valley is a large pond. Ranger Outpost Number Eight is located here."

Man, what a day. I’d already run six Trainers through the Park, on top of four general visitors, three scientists, and one photographer. And it wasn’t even lunchtime yet. Then again, I wasn’t too upset by all the running around. The Park was like my second home (well, okay, it WAS my second home, but still), and I loved going out and showing it off to people.

I was puttering around near the Woods when I felt my radio-phone vibrate against my hip. I paused my wanderings and reached into my pack, withdrawing the small black handset and punching a button to answer the incoming call. It was one of our new receptionists, some young guy named Davis.

“Miss Sara, we’ve got a Trainer waiting to go through, and all the other Rangers are busy with other guests right now. What should I do?”

“Don’t worry, I’ll deal with it. Tell our friend to hold on and I’ll be there in about fifteen minutes,” I replied, trying to soothe the frazzled-sounding young man. He mumbled acknowledgment before terminating the call, and I shoved the radio-phone back in my pack as I headed for the cart that was parked several yards away. I hopped in and started it up, and soon was on the road that led back to the docking Outpost.

I arrived a short time later, leaving the cart to idle instead of bothering to turn it off. After all, I’d only be inside long enough to pick up the Trainer. I went in through the back door and bustled down the long hallway, then went through the door that separated the back staff offices from the front lobby. I saw a tall young man standing near the counter, a dark cloak draped over his body. Davis was fidgeting a little in his seat, punching in something on the computer he was seated in front of. When he heard me come through the door, the receptionist exhaled an audible sigh of relief.

“Oh, Miss Sara! I’ve already gotten Mr. Muert signed in and everything, so he’s ready to go. Ah, let’s see…his name is Zeferin Muert and he’s going to Meteor Valley. He’s bringing his Duskull with him,” Davis babbled. That was a trait of his. Whenever he was nervous, he tended to ramble a bit. I smiled at the youth and nodded my thanks, then faced the Trainer waiting on the other side of the counter.

“Well there, Mr. Zeferin Muert, welcome to the National Park! My name is Trainer Sara, and I’ll be leading you through Meteor Valley. If you’re all set to go, please follow me.” I motioned to a hinged section of the counter, indicating the Trainer should come through.

We were back at the cart within five minutes, and on our way in the next few seconds. I told the history of the Park and pointed our various things as we rode, and about ten minutes later we came to the northern end of Meteor Valley. I killed the engine and climbed out of the cart, raising a hand to shield my eyes from the afternoon sunlight. In the near distance, light reflected off the pond situated at the northern end of the valley. Below us, the valley was as lush and lovely as ever. Vibrant emerald grass covered the valley floor and the sides of the massive hills that made the valley “walls”. Huge trees sprawled across the hillsides, and groups of smaller trees were growing in random clusters on the valley floor. Pieces and piles of boulders were strewn all over, and I could see the dark spots that indicated caves tunneled into the sides of the hills. Flowers of many varieties made the air fragrant, even up here.

    It was just beautiful.

I glanced over at Zeferin and offered an easy smile. “Now, I might be the Head Ranger and all, but I don’t want you to let that intimidate you or anything, ‘kay? Just have fun and try not to blow up TOO much Park property.” I grinned wider to show I was kidding, then inclined my head towards the valley. “We can either drive down about halfway and walk from there, or take it like men and walk from here. Your call.”

Ranger Eli was actually carrying a bit of paper work and equipment from one of the golf karts as he noticed Ranger Sara headed off with a trainer, probably towards Meteor Valley as well. He sighed thinking, "Sure, I'm here all day doing paper work, but when a trainer comes they call the Head Ranger from who knows where."

He finally made it inside and put away the equipment. As he began filing the paper work, Davis walked up to Ranger Eli and said, "uhh...Sir, I have just been informed that there's some...uh...weird Pokemon activity around the Pond at Meteor Valley. Do you think...uhh..."

Ranger Eli smiled and interrupted saying, "Say no more. I'll go investigate...but, do you mind filing these for me?"

At that moment, the door opened as a trainer stepped into the Outpost. By the looks of it, he was a trainer looking for an escort. Davis walked up to him, quickly confirmed it and ran back to Ranger Eli, "Oh, no, another trainer! And Miss Sara just left. Maybe I can still call her and..."

Ranger Eli tapped his shoulder and said, "Don't worry. I can handle this."

Ranger Eli walked up to the trainer and introduced himself, "Hello! I'm Ranger Eli and I'll be your escort for today." He picked up the paper work for the trainer and continued, "Mr. Dante, is it? Alright, follow me and I'll take you to Meteor Valley ASAP."

As Ranger Eli walked out, followed by the trainer, they both got into one of the Golf Karts and headed towards the valley. They did, however, took a different route than Ranger Sara. When they got there, they seemed to be at the side of a giant fissure, with the valley right bellow them. There seem to be wooden stairs in the side of the fissure leading all the way down into the tall grass.

"Here we are, Meteor Valley," said Ranger Eli as he got off the Kart and stared in awe at the scenery. You could even see the Pond sparkling in the distance. Ranger Eli walked towards the stairs and said while keeping his signature smile, "Well, from here on, you are sure to find a variety of Pokemon, so, be careful, good luck, and let's have fun while we are it."

OOC: Couple things before we start:
    1. I have 2 Hyper Balls, not 1.
    2. Mistake on my part - I have a Gengar now, not a Haunter. Sorry I didn't get to update my signup :dumb:
Also, can I use Gengar to battle while he's in the Park?

Dante stepped out of the golf cart, which he noted was new-looking. He thought, "These Rangers must have one hell of a budget to perform maintenance on golf carts so often."

He looked around. "You don't have time to take in the scenery. Remember why you're here," he thought.

He walked towards Ranger Eli, while taking out a Poké Ball and silently sending out his Haunter. Before it had a chance to speak, Dante quietly said to his Haunter, "Haunter, the grass is pretty tall down there, and there's tons of places where a wild Pokémon could be hiding. Watch my back, okay?" It replied in compliance with a quiet "Haun".

As he walked down the stairs, Dante spoke up. "Let's make a deal. You don't interfere with me, and I won't interfere with you. Does that sound good?" he said to Ranger Eli.

Ranger Eli looked confused at first when he noticed Dante's reaction. To him it was clear that Dante had no intentions of having fun at all, although maybe he was wrong. From that point on, Ranger Eli's face became serious and rather emotionless rather than mad.

"Okay sir, let's go," he said as they walked down the stair.

Suddenly, Dante stopped to make a strange question, or was it more of a demand. Either way, without changing the look on his face, Ranger Eli replied, "I'm sorry sir, but I don't understand that question. Shall we continue?"

As Ranger Eli made it to the bottom of the stairs, the noticed something strange balancing on a nearby boulder. It seemed to be black question mark so it was obviously an Unown. It seemed to be meditating or something.

OOC: Ok, I'll be fine with Haunter. :) I edited my earlier post to reflect this. Although, could you change my count of Hyper Balls from 1 to 2? I did mark that as such.

Also, can I use Haunter/Gengar in a battle while he is in the park?
    ___________

"I don't like to repeat myself," Dante said as he walked down the stairs. He noticed the stair creak, and he knew he was completely away from civilization.

Continuing, Dante said, "I said, let's make a deal. You stay out of my way, and I'll stay out of yours. Did you hear me that time?" Dante said, finishing the sentence slightly angrily.

As he walked to the bottom of the stairs, he noticed a question mark Unown balancing on a rock, with its eye closed. He shook his head and said, "Worthless little scum of a Pokémon. It can't do anything." His Haunter watched it carefully, looking for any signs of an ambush. But it saw nothing. "Hmph. I can't even fathom how Unown as a species still exist...so weak. How have they survived the centuries?" Dante voiced a thought.

Dante kept walking along, looking for any Pokémon worth his time. Eventually, he saw a decently-sized rock on the ground (it weighed about five pounds or so) and a tree about six yards away. He decided to pick up the rock and throw it at the tree as hard as he could. With a small grunt, he threw the rock...

Ranger Eli kept listening to the question, but he honestly couldn't make any sense out of it. He didn't want to make Dante repeat himself so he just said, "We'll see Sir."

As they kept walking, the Unown glared with the corner of its eye at Danter. It obviously didn't like the comment. Ranger Eli kept listening at Danter and said, "Numbers Sir. Unown survive by traveling in large numbers. In fact, if there's an Unown here, there must be many others hiding around."

As Dante threw the rock towards the tree, Eli sighed a bit, but tried to make it as silent as possible. When the rock hit, the tree began to shake and strangely it made small bell sounds. A small ray of light reflected from the tree revealing a Chingling hanging onto a branch.

OOC: Sorry for the late and now long reply. I was out of town with no internet *Living Death* and I thought the best way to come back was with a POW of a post. Hope you like!

    ____________________________________________________________________

Zeferin had traveled long and hard, endured the harsh whether and anything else nature had thrown at him all to be able to step into the office building that he was currently in. Well, him and Charon, that is. Zeferin had been with the Duskull for almost five years now, and in all those years, Zeferin had learned one thing: Given the chance, Charon was sure to play with anything he deemed a plaything, and he figured everything that existed this side of Johto was his plaything. Currently, his new toy was an unfortunate receptionist named Davis. Zeferin tried to be stern with his pokemon, but he couldn't help but chuckle as the ghostly pokemon fazed in and out around the nervous receptionist, possessing his chair to spin in circles, and even taking his radio for a second to see if it would be a new plaything.

Before Charon could make up his mind, the sound of a cart pulling up rumbled outside the office and in a quick minute, a younger women in the uniform of a ranger, and a high ranked one at that, strolled into the office that Zeferin, Charon, and the now frazzled receptionist were. The receptionist started to babble to the ranger something about the registration and who Zeferin and Charon were, and the ranger motioned for Zeferin to come with her. The ranger introduced herself as Trainer Sara and, as they were Walking out of the office, the receptionist gave an audible sigh of relief. He seemed like a good person, just a little jumpy and green around the gills.

After a lovely talk (well, more of a one sided lecture since Zeferin was still not too accustomed to talking with people yet) with Trainer Sara about the history of the park, she, Zeferin, and Charon arrived at the summit of large valley. Killing the engine, they group stepped out of the cart and gazed upon the beauty of the land. Pulling his hood a little tighter around his face to block out the sun, Zeferin stood their admiring the glory of the world around him. "By Arceus might, this amazing. What'cha think Charon?"

The little sector glazed out lazily, as if to look like he didn't care, but his happy little bob in his float betrayed him. "Dus, Dus...Duskull."

“Sure, sure,” grinning as he shook his hear, “Oh course you could careless. I know that you know you just can’t wait to see what new toys you’ll find while down there, right?” Charon didn’t answer him back, just fazed out and back in behind Zeferin, throwing back his hood to reveal his shining white hair and now dilating red eyes. “Why you little…” snickered Zeferin as he reached back around to clonk Charon lightly on top the head.

After the little sight-seeing, Sara then asked Zeferin if he would rather take the cart half way or just walk it. After five years of traveling, Zeferin was already uncomfortable as it was with the short cart trip to the valley, let alone with the idea of getting back in it after just getting out. “Charon and I are up for a good hiking. Personally, I can’t stand those metal people mover.” Zeferin was eager to go. He really wanted to see, or at least get a glimpse, of him. He who is the blight of the night, the embodiment of fear, and the most misunderstood pokemon next to Absol: Darkrai.

"If there's one thing I hate more than having to repeat myself, it's getting a half-assed answer," Dante yelled angrily. He ran up to Eli and said "Stop."

Dante walked over to him (about a foot away from him) and said, "I'm going to repeat myself one more time. Pay attention. If you can't hear me, you need a freaking hearing aid. Now. Just stay out of my way, and I'll stay out of yours. Do we have a deal?"

Dante threw the rock at the tree and saw the Chingling come out. He sighed and yelled, "Another worthless Pokémon. Why the hell should I even make an attempt to capture it? It's so weak!"

Dante walked away from the Chingling, angry that he couldn't find a "halfway-decent" Pokémon. In anger, he ripped a few flowers out of the ground and tossed them aside. "What was the point of that?" he thought as he walked into a more open part of the valley.

I chuckled at the antics of Zeferin’s Duskull, and couldn’t help but smile at the young man’s comment about the cart we’d ridden here. I personally agreed; about the hiking, I mean, not the hating “metal people movers”. I folded my hands behind my head and took the lead, walking down the winding path that led down to the valley proper.

I’d only gotten maybe ten steps when the grass a few feet to my left began to rustle violently. Growling suddenly rose from the trembling patch of grass, and this was followed by a loud bark and then a sharp yelp. Seconds later a small, gray-furred canine rushed onto the path and darted away, being chased by another, larger canine. This one came to a stop on the path, waving its bushy little tail menacingly and giving a short howl. Then it seemed to notice it wasn’t alone, turning to face us with its feral gaze. The Pokemon’s eyes were dark red, but the parts that should have been white were instead yellow, giving the Pokemon’s stare an unnerving quality. A warning growl started to rumble in the small wolf’s chest and its hackles rose, indicating it wasn’t about to back down without a fight.

“Oh my, it seems like this little Poochyena isn’t happy about us being in its territory,” I said softly, slowly backing up until I was close to Zeferin. “If you don’t want to catch it, we’ll have to be very careful in moving away.”

Moving down the winding path, Zeferin started to relax a little more: though it was a bit too sunny for him and his light complexion, he couldn't deny what a nice day it was. Charon seemed to enjoy himself too as he bobbed up and down to his own beat.

Well, they enjoyed it for all of a few meters before a small Poochyena darted out of the grass with a bigger one close on its tail. Turning around to face his next challengers, the larger Poochyena stood its ground, prepared to face these odd intruders on his territory.

"Poochyena is a dark type and he'll try to use those teeth of his to tear us apart. Charon could fight him off, but..." As Zeferin finished thinking it over, he turned to Sara and said, "I think it's best for Charon and my sake if he just let this one alone. Anyway, one thing I've learned in my travels, if there's a Poochyena, there might be a Mightyena near by. If there's more then one Poochyena, there's definitely a Mightyena near by. I would rather not hurt a Mightyena's pup and face their wrath." Looking around, Zeferin saw an old pokemon trail just behind them to the right. "Let's see if we can just walk around this little fella, but walk so he thinks were giving up. Do that sound good?"

At that moment, Ranger Eli threw a Pokeball and out came a Delcatty who quickly ran around Dante as Eli commanded, "Nancy, Protect!"

The Delcatty created a barrier as a powerful beam disappeared into, saving Dante from a direct hit. When everyone looked, there was yet another Unown there, a Q Unown to be exact, and it looked angry.

Ranger Eli took a few steps forwards and said to Dante, "My job is make sure you are safe and that the park remains in balance. By insulting the Pokemon and meaninglessly damaging the land, you are getting in my way. So there's no deal."

The Unown became surrounded by spheres of energy that suddenly joined together into a beam. This time, everyone jumped to a side to dodge it.

"Nancy, Heal Bell," said Ranger Eli.

The Delcatty slowly neared the Unown as a soothing melody came from her necklace. The Unown listened into it and quickly calmed down and just stared at everyone.

"Damn Unown," Dante said after dodging the attack. He heard the Delcatty's Heal Bell, which calmed his nerves a bit. However, he still knew that a threat was right in front of him. He regained control of his emotions, and backed away slowly from the now-docile Unown.

After he had gotten far enough away from the Unown, he had to ask: "Why did you do that? Why not just leave me to die, if I was getting in your way?"

After a few seconds, he realized a mistake..."And, by the way...thanks."

“That sounds like a good idea,” I replied, keeping my eyes on the growling Poochyena as we slowly backed towards the trail Zeferin had pointed out. I considered releasing one of my Pokemon, but that might be taken as a threat and lure the little wolf into attacking. Also, like Zeferin had mentioned, when there were Poochyena around, Mightyena tended to be close by. If there were any, letting out a large Pokemon like Feather or Cynder, my Pidgeot and Ninetales, could incite their anger.

When the Poochyena saw us retreating, it flicked its tail and tossed its head, apparently thinking it had succeeded in chasing us off with its vocal threats. It then turned and trotted off, and I finally felt it safe to turn my back and watch where I was going.

“Well, how’s that for your first encounter?” I said, giving Zeferin a smile. “It’s rare for Trainers to run into such hot-headed Pokemon during their very first visit. I don’t know if that makes you lucky or unlucky.”

We followed the path, which led straight to a giant pile of boulders and other debris, such as dead branches and leaves. I paused a few yards from it, noticing movement in one of the large gaps between the hunks of stone. A second later a tiny pink Pokemon danced into view, literally. Its large, brown ears twitched as it spun in circles and swung its stubby little arms around. A small curly tail could be seen when it spun, making cute noises as it went.

During one of these spins, the Pokemon apparently noticed us, because it gave a startled little squeak and promptly fell over. It didn’t seem scared of Zeferin or me, however, but of Zeferin’s Duskull. It stared at the Ghost with wide eyes and was visibly trembling when it stood. I wondered for a moment why it didn’t flee until I noticed Zeferin standing near a small rock. It looked like the same kind the stone pile in front of us was made from, and I figured the little Pokemon had been coming out to fetch it.

“Zeferin, I think that Cleffa wants the stone you’re standing next to, but Charon is scaring it. Maybe you should have him take the stone over there as a sign of friendship?”

Ranger Eli walked along Dante's side, but still looking back, making sure the Unown had retreated. Once it was safe, he turned around, back towards the trainer who had asked a question.

Eli finally smiled again and said, "Well Mr. Dante, I don't now how to answer that myself. I just don't leave people like that. I guess it just feels right to do what's right."

"Nyah!" added Nancy, hoping to get some recognition.

"Let's keep on moving, shall we? There are still plenty of Pokemon for you to see. Who knows? Maybe you will find a strong one before you leave," said Ranger Eli, trying to encourage Dante to do some exploring.

After avoiding the Poochyena, Zeferin, Sara and Charon walked down the little path towards a large pile of rocks, branches and other bits of the litter of nature. Upon hearing Sara's comment, Zeferin laughed a little and stated, "If you think that was bad, you should've seen this time Charon and me walking in a cave, fell though the floor and into a Combee hive, landing right on top of their Vespiqueen. I don't know if it was just simply unlucky that we fell into their nest at or if it was luck I had Charon here with me, but let's just say that I can never eat honey the same."

When they got to the giant pile of rocks, Sara paused and pointed out a pink rock...no, a dancing pink rock. At least, that's what Zeferin thought it was until it pirouetted into the clearing and shown its full self: a soft, puffy little Cleffa.

The little Cleffa seemed to freeze in space and want to cry when it saw Charon floating eerily by Zeferin. "Well of course it’d be frighten, thought Zeferin, "Nothing scares a normal type, let alone a baby one at that, more than a ghost type."

Sara then said, "Zeferin, I think that Cleffa wants the stone you’re standing next to, but Charon is scaring it. Maybe you should have him take the stone over there as a sign of friendship?”

Zeferin looked down at his foot and saw a curious little stone next to it. He couldn’t say what it was, but there was something about the rock that fascinated him. Turning back to Sara, Zeferin said, "I agree. Anyway, there’s no way I could do anything to hurt a little guy like him."

Kinda realizing how corny his last line was, Zeferin quickly changed topics, and turned to Charon. "Ok Charon, if you promise not to play around with this little guy, I promise to find a shiny new toy for you later, ok?" The phantom stopped and seemed to chew on the idea for a moment, rolled its eye around, and then bobbed in agreement.

As Charon backed off, Zeferin picked up the stone and calmly walked up to the Cleffa. “Here you go. You don’t have to be afraid of Charon. We’re all friendly here.” Zeferin then gently laid the stone right in front of the Cleffa and waited to see what it would do.

Dante heard Eli's response to his question and said, "First, call me Dante, not Mr. Dante," he said before continuing, "'It just feels right to do what's right', you say? Well, if there's anything I've learned, it's that no good deed goes unpunished."

Trying to create a little humor, he joked "Heh, someone probably just stole the golf cart."

After hearing the Delcatty's cries, he walked over to it and stroked its back. "Thanks," he said to it.

He heard Eli's words, and said, "Strong Pokémon...there had better be one around here," he said as he walked through what seemed like a field of rocks. "Let's go to the Lake, there is bound to be something powerful there. How far away from it are we?"

Eli laughed a bit at Dante's comment. Only a few seconds later he cleared his throat and said, "The lake?...hmm...It's a bit far, but not too much. We can make it."

Ranger Eli began to walk in the direction of the Lake. They had only been walking for around a minute or two when they noticed another trainer, apparently having his Pokemon give a stone to a Cleffa.

Ranger Eli kept his distance and said, "Think someone is stealing his Gold Cart?" Trying to follow up with Dante's humor.

At that moment, they noticed there was a Pokemon standing in their way. It was a Wynaut. It just seemed to be standing there for no reason, watching the other trainer with a blank expression on its face.

Hearing Dante's response, he had one of his own. "Good. A long walk never killed anyone."

He saw the other trainer and said, "Hmph. Another trainer, here? They're probably grabbing up all of the best Pokémon." Hearing Eli's humorous statement, he responded: "Nah, one person can only steal one golf cart. Unless they are really determined. And by that I mean, they're going to have to try to drive both at the same time." He winced imagining that.

Seeing the Wynaut as he walked by, he remarked, "Eh. It's cute, but it isn't going to win against anything much larger than it. I'm not here to catch Pokémon for show, I'm here to catch Pokémon to win in battles with. I'm here so I can feed myself."

He walked away from the Wynaut, heading toward the lake, which he noticed seemed closer than before.

Cleffa watched Zeferin with open wariness, ready to bolt at the slightest provocation. When the young man put the stone on the ground, Cleffa blinked at him, then down at the stone. It tensed as Zeferin spoke, like it thought it was being threatened. When Zeferin made no move to attack it, though, the little Pokemon snatched the rock and darted back to the stone pile. It vanished through a crack, and I thought that was that.

Seconds later, though, it came back and motioned to Charon, its earlier fear replaced by curiosity. It slowly crept to where the Ghost was hovering, staring up at him. Then it looked at itself and jumped, like it was trying to float. When that failed, Cleffa seemed to get angry. It waved at Charon, then jumped again. When it fell it slipped, landing on its rear with a little squeak. It then sat there, staring up at Charon with an irritated expression. Lifting both arms, it waved its hands through the air and then gave a sharp, “Clef!” as it jerked its arms downward. The moment it did, I felt a heavy weight press on me. Surprised, I staggered out of the range of Cleffa’s surprise Gravity move. At the same time, Charon was dragged to the ground, his hovering pretty much impossible from the increased gravity.

“Ugh, I guess Cleffa got mad that it couldn’t fly like Charon, so it made it to where he can fly, either,” I explained to Zeferin, wondering what he’d want to do.
