OOC: Sorry this took so long. The inactivity spike meant there weren't many rangers around to see an escape roll, and then I finally got Bumblebee to watch one yesterday, but he still hasn't posted. :< Anyway, I decided I wouldn't bother waiting. Keep your Pokédoll; the escape worked.

"No thanks," Garth replied. "Let's leave it be. If it wants to follow us, I have a Pokédoll we can use."

Argent nodded in response, before looking towards the Dewgong once more. It didn't really seem to be paying any attention to the mixed party that was so close by, so Argent thought he could probably slip them all away from the Dewgong -- the relaxed creature didn't seem to be interested in having a battle, anyway. Deciding that the Pokémon was best left to its own devices, Argent veered Assan away from the sandbank, and directed him onwards. Assan's two tails began to spin in propeller motion, and, with a lazy kick from time to time, the orange creature sliced swiftly through the still water, sending ripples out from around them. They faded into the far distance as they travelled away in large arcs. Chimey relocated herself to the top of Assan's head, but the Sea Weasel Pokémon didn't seem to mind all that much. Argent simply smiled at the quiet atmosphere on a day with such good weather. With the sun blazing overhead, but a light breeze blowing at them, the temperature was just right. The pure blue of the sky seemed to fill Argent with a probably unreasonable happiness, and the still water was cool enough to moderate the temperature caused by their exertions.

After a good many moments, Assan abruptly stopped, and Argent called for Garth and his Starmie to halt. As the party stopped, Assan pointed at something that was circling them in the water. As the shape came to a stop, a head emerged from the water, peeping at Argent curiously. The face was cream in colour, and black eyes that shone like pebbles gazed into Argent's own cool cornflower blue. It had eyebrows that curved up and into the centre of what seemed to be its forehead, and a meek smile stretched across its face. It seemed to have spherical 'speakers' of sorts on each side of its head, the top part of each being a light blue. Although it was underwater, Argent saw a glimpse of the tadpole-like tail that smacked the surface of the water occasionally.

"T-Tympole!" it cried. Argent gave it an encouraging smile.

"Interested in a Tympole?" he asked over his shoulder.

    OOC: @Buoy

After the Dewgong drifted away from us, not interested in the slightest, Argent and his Floatzel headed in a different direction. We swam along for some time before Argent passed down a signal to halt.

I was curious to see if we had run into a Pokemon, and sure enough we had. It resembled a tadpole, only it more of a head than a body, and it was larger than a normal tadpole would be. It had a creamy face with large eyes and mouth. The face was ringed with a rich earthy brown, and the rest of it was aqua blue, which allowed it to blend in with the bottom of the lakes, rivers, and seas.

The Pokemon was a Tympole, a Water type that would evolve into Seismitoad, a strong Water and Ground type. While I didn’t want to use Seismitoad in my gym because Swampert was a better option, it was a decent enough Water Pokemon to have, not to mention that I wanted all Water Pokemon and this was one I had been searching for lately.

I pulled out my Pokedex and aimed it at Tympole. As the information scrolled across the screen and looked at the important points. The first thing was that it was only a Water type Pokemon right now, it wouldn’t become a Ground type until it evolved into Palpitoad.

It’s abilities were also a point of concern. It’s most common ability was Swift Swim, which allowed it to be faster in times of rain. This meant that I had to be careful about allowing any Pokemon to use Rain Dance because that could tip the battle in its favor. Its second ability was that of Hydration, which allowed it to heal any status aliments during rain. The good thing about this was that I could cover both abilities because they both relied on Rain Dance. It more rare ability was Water Absorb, which allowed it to heal from any Water attacks. This one didn’t bother me because I didn’t plan on using any Water attacks against this Pokemon.

Next, I looked at its moves. It didn’t know that many level up moves, and its movepool of extra moves wasn’t that large. That was a good thing when battling wild Pokemon, since those tended to be moves that could hurt in a variety of ways. It did however know Rain Dance by level up, meaning that I would have to watch for that move and be able to counter it or reverse it with any Pokemon I chose to sent out.

I was using Starmie as my Pokemon using Surf, so that was out, leaving Toxicroak, Whimsicott, and Rotom-Wash. Despite being a frog, Toxicroak would have a harder time in this much water than the Tympole, especially since most of his attacks wouldn’t work in water. I also didn’t want to use Rotom-Wash because it was a pretty powerful Pokemon, and I would have to watch my moves very careful if I sent it out.

That left Whimsicott, not a bad choice because it was fast, plus could counter any moves by the Tympole. I reached for his Pokedoll and called out the green, brown and white Pokemon. Whimsicott fluffed up his cotton around his body and turned to me, flashing a smile that promised trouble later on, he didn’t like being in his Pokeball.

“I know, but first we must catch this Tympole. Why don’t you start this battle off with Light Screen and follow that up with Stun Spore?”

I had decided not to use attacking moves for a couple different reasons. The first being that I wanted to limit the damage to Whimsicott, and Light Screen would halve special damage while the Stun Spore provided a chance to paralyze the Pokemon, not allowing it to attack. The second reason was that Stun Spore had the additional benefit to aid my capture of the Tympole when the time came.

Whimsicott would start with Light Screen, a Psychic barrier put up by Whimsicott. Whimsicott was a Grass Pokemon, not a Psychic Pokemon, but like most Pokemon he did have some Psychic ability, and Light Screen was a pretty simple move. All he would have to do is focus his mind and imagine the invisible barrier around him to create the Light Screen.

The Stun Spore wasn’t that harder either. Grass type Pokemon often produced spores inside their body for both attack and defense, just like plants. Pokemon could use these spores in whatever manner they wished, they just had to call them up. I had seen Whimsicott use this move once before. He would go near the Tympole and start to shake his body, lifting the spores from his body and filling the air with them. The spores appeared as a fine yellow dust, and if you breathed it in then you would have paralysis. The only problem was that Stun Spore was a move that missed fairly often, I hoped this time it would hit.

I was pretty excited this day. I was going to my favorite area of the National Park, the Great Lakes. The name gave the Pokemon away, this place was filled to the brink with Water types. If a Water type existed, it could be found in the Lakes with a few exceptions. I had been there more than a few times already, and I had took a couple trainers through, and with each run coming back fruitful.

Because of the great amount of Pokemon there it sometimes made it harder to find a specific Pokemon, but the diversity among the Pokemon made up for it in someway. My last trip was pretty decent, but I wound up only leaving with three Pokemon instead of my normal four, but that was a risk one took when going to any area of the Park.

A plus to taking this run was that I knew the person who I would be taking, so it would be a fairly easy run for me as he knew almost everything there was to know.

I finished strapping on my gear and stepped into the teleporter. When i arrived at the Lakes a moment later I breathed in deep, drawing in that water smell. Cameron wasn’t there so I leaned my back against the wall around the Park and pulled a web game I was developing.

My brothers and I had all been taking turns going into the Park. More specifically, the Great Lakes. We were in constant search for the legendary Pokemon called Phione. We've been to the lakes at least eight or more times already, I had lost count after five and I wasn't sure how many more times we'd have to come here before one actually showed up. I figured we were just unlucky, either that, or Phione was just a legend here and resided somewhere else in the world. There were several Phione spotted all around this planet, but we think this is where they come often, at least that is what the research team I talked to said. As of now, I wasn't really sure if they were right, but since I had no other leads, and because of how easy it would be to continue looking here because of my job, I just kept on going.

I grabbed a Pokeball and headed out to meet Shadow and Mindbender at the lakes. I just had to stop by Leo's office and pick up Cybershock, his Porygon-Z. I picked up my backpack of supplies and pulled out the Masterball we had been given a while back. I then walked over to Leo's office. Without even looking, he tossed over the Pokeball containing Cybershock.

"Good luck out there." He said to me.

"Ha, yea, I'll need it." I said to him as I headed for the door. m

    -

The walk to the lakes didn't take long since it was pretty close to the Rangers headquarters. Mindbender and Shadow were already there waiting. Shadow had grown used to this place and was no longer afraid of it like he was the first time he came here. He even went into the water last time, it was quite the improvement. Shadow and Mindbender made their way over towards me, and then we located our Ranger.

"Hey, good to see you again Gaius." I said to him. I was ready whenever he was.

“Hey, good to see you again, Gaius,” Cameron said, walking over to me. I shook his hand and returned his greeting. The three brothers were a common sight around the National Park, visiting all the other areas and helping others by being rangers.

I had taken one of them through the Great Lakes already, and it had turned out to be a decent run for him, but he hadn’t found the ultra-rare Phione that they had been looking for. It just happened to be a Pokemon I was looking for also, so it was a race to see who could find the Pokemon first.

I wasted no time with preamble and logged us both into the system. The large gates swung open and I led us inside. I saw a storm brewing in the distance over Meteor Valley and knew that it would be here soon. Either we would get caught in it or not. I didn’t think we had much time though because I could already feel a strong breeze. It was usually windy here in the Lakes, but it was now more so.

I immediately headed for the first lake, one directly ahead of us and up the path. It was by far the largest lake in the area and was known to hold a rare Pokemon or two. I figured we would stop around there for a bit then head for the lakes further out, where most of the rare Pokemon hid out.

We had just got close enough to see the lake when I spotted a Pokemon. It had a long, sinuous body, it was pink, and had a cream underbelly. It was the very rare Milotic. Milotic were not a particular powerful Pokemon stats wise, but it had high defenses and possessed a solid number of moves. I was sure Cameron and his brothers already had one, but you could never tell if they wanted another.

“You want to add another Milotic?” I asked the man by my side.

"I am very tempted to capture this Pokemon here, but no. As beautiful as this Pokemon is, it just isn't on my list of things to capture. Plus, we already have one." I said to Gaius. "Instead, let me take a picture of this Milotic so that I can at least get some cash out of this." I reached into my backpack and pulled out a small digital camera with a small lens. I raised my device and clicked on the button and a white light flashed. Milotic was truly and elegant Pokemon, I am very happy with the one I have, which is doing well at the Sootopolis City Gym.

"I am ready to move on whenever you are, Gauis." I said to him. "Lead the way."

    @AmericanTreeFrog;
OOC: Again, really sorry. Between being sick (which I still am ;_;) and that extended trip away... well, whatever. Gender?

Once Argent had pointed out the Tympole to Garth, the trainer pulled out a small, handheld device. Lifting it up slightly, he aligned the back of it with Tympole, and Argent recognised the gadget as a Pokédex. It was a great piece of technology to have on hand, as it had all the information one would need at a glance. Garth seemed engrossed with the device for a while, and Argent realised that this trainer was a little bit of a strategist, by the looks of things. Argent knew he had only a few Pokémon at his disposal, and Starmie, one of the four Garth had brought, was already out of the question -- Garth was using that Pokémon for travelling at that time. That left his Toxicroak, Whimsicott and Rotom-Wash. Argent didn't feel that Toxicroak was really a strong swimmer, and, if he remembered correctly, the Poison- and Fighting-type didn't have many moves that would function well in water.

Rotom-Wash was a good option, although perhaps a little too strong for the small Tympole. Only its evolutions came with the Ground-type that would grant it immunity to the stinging pain of Electric-type attacks. As it was, Tympole was quite a weak Pokémon, and if Garth unleashed his Rotom on the creature, the tadpole would be easily overpowered, so he would have to watch himself. Whimsicott was just as equal a threat to the Tympole, if not more -- powerful Grass-type moves would dent the Water-type quite a bit, and the Ground-typing of its evolutions would cause Whimsicott to cause even more damage. However, the cotton-soft Pokémon was not, generally speaking, one of brute force, but damaged opponents in more indirect ways. Though the methods to using Whimsicott correctly were often long and drawn-out, the results were quite satisying... most of the time.

Whimsicott was his choice. Garth sent out the fluffy Pokémon after a while of deliberating, and the green, white and beige creature puffed a little, turning to Garth. Argent saw the Pokémon flash a not entirely friendly smile at his trainer... perhaps there was some sort of strife between them. Whatever it was, Argent wasn't going to pry.

"I know," said Garth, "but first we must catch this Pokémon. Why don’t you start this battle off with Light Screen, and follow that up with Stun Spore?"

Not a bad place to start, Argent supposed. Whimsicott was quite fast indeed, and Prankster would allow him to pull both of these moves off swiftly. He danced lightly across the water, seemingly studying the Tympole. He then lifted his stubby arms up, stretching them out on either side of his body. He closed his eyes for a moment, and then, slowly but surely, a dome of translucent pink energy enfolded him -- Light Screen, a move designed to halve the damage taken from any special attack. Light Screen was a very potent move when used against Tympole, for almost its entire movepool consisted of moves reliant on its special attack. Tympole saw that its only chance would be to utilise the very few physical moves at its disposal. It glared towards the Whimsicott, and its anger seemed to actually envelop its body in some sort of orange aura. With a powerful flip of its tail, the Tympole flung itself from the water, tumbling through the air to bring its tail down upon Loki the Whimsicott. The tadpole's tail did strike its mark, and Whimsicott reeled from the pain of Tympole's Facade.

Shortly after, however, the mass of fluff that surrounded Whimsicott's body glowed momentarily, and a few spores were ejected from it. They bypassed the Light Screen barrier, and they were directed straight at Tympole. The spores found their target easily enough, and released a paralytic charge into the Tadpole Pokémon. Unfortunately for the poor creature, it found itself slowed by the electrical charge that had been released into its body, but was not totally immobile yet. It flapped its tail a little slowly, kicking up water droplets around itself. A small pulse was emitted from the Pokémon, and the water droplets clashed into each other to form rings that surrounded the Tympole, and showed no promise of going away anytime soon -- Aqua Ring.

    Argent bit his lip quietly.

Due to its Prankster Ability Whimsicott was able to throw up the pink Light Screen in only seconds. But in those same seconds the Tympole had decided to launch an attack at Whimsicott. The soon-to-be frog Pokemon used its tail to fling itself in the air, to come right down upon Loki.

While not a physically strong Pokemon, Tympole’s tail was used to propel it throughout the water, meaning that it possessed some strong muscles in the tail. It used that tail to hammer Loki, causing him to reel back from the pain, but not enough for Loki to be too inhibited by the attack.

Loki recovered almost immediately from the Facade move Tympole had unleashed on him. He shook his fluffy exterior and the spores that would complete Stun Spore came loose. The spores drifted in the wind towards Tympole, where they eventually hit him.

The Tympole seemed dismayed by the Stun Spore move, mostly because of the loss of speed, but it seemed to take the measure in stride as it started to splash around water. I wondered what the Pokemon was doing, until I noticed a small pulse coming from the much smaller Pokemon. While I wasn’t sure which attack the Tympole had just used, i could place a guess that it was Aqua Ring, a move that healed six point two-five percent of health every turn. It was a small amount, but over the course of a battle it could slightly influence the results.

It wasn’t that big a hurdle though, by the Tympole using Aqua Ring it had actually opened a move I was reluctant to use because of the risk involved, but the Aqua Ring would help mitigate that risk now. I had a couple moves in mind that might work here.

First and foremost, Whimsicott wasn’t a Pokemon that attacked very much, as such it didn’t have as many attacking moves as a Pokemon like Sceptile. But the species did know a fair number of non-attacking moves, which was what made it having Prankster a good thing. While I wanted to use an attacking move, I decided to go with something else instead.

“Loki, go with an Encore and follow that up with your Leech Seed attack.”

By Tympole using the move Aqua Ring it had opened itself up to both attacks that I wanted to us. The Encore would force it to use Aqua Ring for a total of three turns, while the Leech Seed continually sapped health and gave it to my Whimsicott. There was a chance of Tympole countering the Encore with a move like Protect or Detect, but I was in a good position no matter what.

As for the Leech Seed, that was a move that had a higher chance of going wrong, but I could always use it again if I wanted to counter the Aqua Ring and continued to gain health. Whimsicott would of course start with the Encore, which was essentially convincing the opposing Pokemon to continue to use the move. Pokemon did tend to resist this sort of thing, so the Encore was powered by the subtle power of Psychic energy. It was a suggestion with power behind it, making it like a compulsion to the opposing Pokemon.

Leech Seed was a move that came from a seed. Whimsicott would fire a seed at Tympole, and if it connected a web of vines would sprout and grow around the body of Tympole. These vines would latch onto and sap life from the Tympole, and transfer it to Whimsicott, doing damage and healing my Pokemon at the same time.

@Bumblebee - Forgot about this, sorry.
    Ranger: Gaius Tyrannius
    Trainer: Cameron
    Area: Great Lakes

“I’m very tempted to capture this Pokemon, here, but no,” Cameron responded, looking at the majestic Pokemon intently. “As beautiful as this Pokemon is, it just isn’t on my list of things to capture. Plus, we already have one. Instead, let me take a picture of this Milotic so that I can at least get some cash out of this.” He pulled out the Digital Camera exclusive to the National Park and snapped a quick picture of the Pokemon.

Milotic’s head whipped around at the flash and stared at us for a heartbeat. Quick as could be, the Pokemon dived underwater and disappeared, as all Pokemon did when they got their picture taken.

“I am ready to move on whenever you are,” Cameron said as he stowed his camera. “Lead the way.”

I continued to walk down the path leading to the lake and stopped at its shores. Usually I had trainers walk around it, but for some reason I felt like we should go out on its waters. I called forth my Swampert and climbed on his back. As Cameron got ready to follow behind me, I started to get Swampert moving. Before we could get very far though two Pokemon surfaced.

One was a Pokemon that sort of looked like a Marshtomp and otter mix, while the other looked like a small sea turtle. They were Dewott and Tirtouga, both Water Pokemon, with one being part Rock typed.

“You want either of these?” I called back to Cameron.

“You want either of these?” Ranger Gaius asked me. I didn't even have to think about this one. I wasn't interested in Dewott and as much as I wanted to get a Tirtouga for my basics collection, I did not want to battle this one at this moment. Anyways, I knew of an easier way to obtain one.

"No thanks, sir." I said to him, pulling out a Pokedoll as I did. "I feel quite certain that I'll be needing this." and then I placed the Pokedoll on the ground. I couldn't remember if one doll had the power to make two Pokemon go away, but I sure hoped so because I didn't want to waste two dolls on them.

    @AmericanTreeFrog;

After the culmination of the previous attacks, Garth took a short while to make a new strategy to adapt to Tympole's current status. Argent knew there were multiple options that Garth could use in order to bring Tympole crashing down, although he didn't know what exactly the trainer would choose -- Whimsicott was widely unpredictable as an opponent, seeing as it had so many options. It wasn't a very good Pokémon for brute force, of course, as it wasn't entirely an offensive Pokémon, but it rather damaged the opponent in roundabout ways which were just as effective as any other Pokémon's strategy, but it took longer for the Grass-type to get results than most.

Argent was roused from his musings by the sound of Garth. "Loki, go with an Encore and follow that up with your Leech Seed attack." Encore was a move designed to make the opponent repeat the move they had just made three times in a row, before they were free to use a move that they wanted to move -- it was useful in competitive battles to trap an opponent in a move that would render them useless for the next three moves they tried to make, such as a boosting move or a move that should only be used once or twice in a match, such as Stealth Rock. Since the last move made by Tympole was Aqua Ring, Encore would force the Tadpole Pokémon to repeat that move, which was a very good plan indeed.

Leech Seed was also another good option. Its accuracy was sometimes shaky, but if it succeeded in making contact with Tympole, then it would completely mitigate Aqua Ring, and instead regularly sap the Water-type's health, and all of the sapped health would be absorbed by Whimsicott to heal it instead. This meant that Whimsicott would practically made Aqua Ring his own if he managed to get Leech Seed to work properly. He went forward from Garth once more, dancing lightly across the surface of the water in order to reach a safe distance to make his move on Tympole.

Almost immediately, he wove a glowing white orb out of the air, illuminating his dark brown body and making his beige fluff seem almost pristine with the intensity of the glow. Tympole, however, seemed to be even faster. Though the electricity crackled around his body, it moved a short way backwards like a shot, before projecting a wall of translucent energy, not unsimilar to the Light Screen shield that hung before Whimsicott. Whimsicott fired off his white orb through the pink Light Screen barrier, yet the move dissipated on contact with Tympole's own barrier -- completely ineffective. Tympole had used Protect to shield itself from Whimsicott's Encore -- it obviously didn't want to be using Aqua Ring over and over again.

Whimsicott didn't, nevertheless, back down for a moment. Even while his Encore move was whirling through the air to meet Tympole, he was generating what seemed to be seeds that glowed a luminescent red. As Tympole's Protect dissipated just as Encore had, Whimsicott flung his arm out in front of him, and the seeds, now tied together by some sort of intricate vine, literally flew towards Tympole. It was an easy strike, as Tympole could not evade by normal means -- he was slowed by the paralysis, of course. The electric charge was not fully settled in, as he seemed to make some effort to move out of the way. It wasn't enough, of course. The seeds were tied around him in no time at all.

Tympole looked angrily towards Whimsicott -- the veil of water surrounding him was no longer effective, and thus he had been bested on that regard. The two growths on either side of his head -- which looked like speakers -- pulsed momentarily, and, with that, two waves of sound energy were shot towards Whimsicott. It was obviously not a very good attack, though, seeing as it missed completely -- Whimsicott had simply gave a mischievous laugh before tap-dancing out of the way. The seeds around Tympole pulsed red, and Whimsicott also glowed that same colour for a fraction of the second, absorbing the energy lost by Tympole and converting it into energy for himself.

“No thanks, sir,” Cameron responded cheerfully. “I feel quite certain that I’ll be needing this.”

The item he was talking about turned out to be a Pokedoll, something that would allow us to leave the Pokemon behind if they wanted to stick around. Whether they wanted to leave was up in the air, they could just decide to stick around, and thereby making it harder on Cameron.

I looked at the Pokemon and decided to swim towards them. If they wanted to fight then they would get out of the way, if not, then Cameron had a Pokedoll ready to use. I tapped Swampert on the side, and the bulky Pokemon started to move forward.

Tirtouga and Dewott looked at each and moved to block my path. I was about to say to Cameron that we would need that Pokedoll when one came sailing from his direction to land between the Pokemon. The Pokedoll immediately started to sink, and both Pokemon dived down to get at it. I took the moment to swim past both.

It was a windy day so the waves were bigger than normal, but both Swampert and I, including Cameron were fine. A couple minutes after coming off the duo Pokemon the waves suddenly ceased in the area near us. A moment later an Azelf appeared.

“Another chance to get a picture,” I commented to Cameron.

“Another chance to get a picture,” he said to me. I just shrugged and sighed. On these runs, we could only encounter a certain amount of Pokemon. Legendary Pokemon counted towards that amount, but we couldn't capture them, which in my opinion was a waste and should not be counted. I didn't see the point in counting them when the Trainer gets no benefits from them other than a small hand of cash. I brought out my camera again and snapped another photo. "Alright, let's go. Still have lots of areas to explore before my time is up."

Cameron shrugged and snapped a picture of the Pokemon, who like the Milotic before it immediately, fled.

“Alright, let’s go. Still have lots of areas to explore before my time is up.”

That he did, we were only a fourth of the way through by my count, so he still had a ton more Pokemon to run into. I pointed Swampert to head deeper into the lake and et off once again.

A few minutes after the Azelf encounter we came across a rock formation jutting out of the water. Sitting on one of the stones doing nothing was a Slowking, a Water and Psychic type. It was a pretty powerful Pokemon, but it was hampered by its low speed. I was pretty sure Cameron or his brothers already have one, but I knew some people who would like to have the Pokemon.

“You want to battle that Slowking?” I asked Cameron as he came closer.

As Loki prepared to use the Encore move, the Tympole moved into action also. I wasn’t sure exactly what it was doing, but I had a guess about what move it wanted. If I was right, it didn’t bother me too much because it wasn’t an important factor in my plans to catch this Pokemon.

Sure enough, just before the Encore move could be completed a bright energy shield surrounded Tympole and protected it. It was the move Protect, which protected it from every attack known, save a couple.

Whimsicott must have suspected, just like I did, that Tympole might use that move. So before the Encore had even reached the Tympole, Loki had already been preparing a Leech Seed attack. The attack arced towards Tympole and wrapped completely around the Pokemon. Tympole responded by firing off an attack of its own at Whimsicott, but my Pokemon easily dodged the attack by moving out of the way.

The battle was currently in my favor, but it was still too close for my comfort. It was time for Loki to go on the offensive. “Let’s hit back. Start with your Hidden Power move and follow that up with your Mega Drain.”

Only one of those attacks would do a solid amount of damage and heal Whimsicott, but the other was just to lower the health of Tympole without damaging the Water Pokemon too much since I wanted to catch the Pokemon.

Hidden Power was pretty much a move that any Pokemon could learn. What made it a good move was that it was an attack whose type was different based on the Pokemon. So a Jolteon with a Hidden Power that was Grass typed was a really good thing. My Whimsicott didn’t have a good one, but I could still use it sometimes.

I settled back to wait to see how this turn of attacks would shape out.

“You want to battle that Slowking?” He asked me as the large lethargic Pokemon came closer. Once again I just shook my head. We already owned a Slowking at one point in time, but ended up trading it away. I, for one, preferred Slowbro over Slowking. I wasn't interested in doing battle with this Pokemon, so I brought out a Pokedoll. "Mah man, let's try and avoid it, if not, here is this doll so we can escape. I had a couple of encounters left, but I was fairly sure that Phione wouldn't be seen today. I just wondered how many more times I would have to come to this area of the park just to find it.

    @AmericanTreeFrog;

The battle was now undoubtedly playing out in Garth's favour. Argent wondered how he'd react to that once he had realised it. The best option would now to start on the offence, rather than playing tricks with Tympole. Garth seemed to have the same ideas as Argent, as he called out to his Whimsicott, "Let's hit back. Start with your Hidden Power move and follow that up with Mega Drain."

Sound tactics, as far as Argent was concerned. Although Whimsicott's Hidden Power type was Dark, it would still deal a reasonable amount of damage to the opposing Tympole due to Whimsicott's decent offensive capabilities against Tympole's slightly weaker defences. Mega Drain would also heal up most of the damage lost during the battle, so Argent could tell that Garth was trying to wrap up the battle. Judging from Whimsicott's overall mood and appearance, however, as he began to prepare his first attack, he did not seem at all troubled; Argent guessed that Whimsicott was in relatively good health. Nevertheless, Whimsicott was definitely not unscathed, so some healing was probably in order. As Whimsicott danced further towards Tympole lightly -- as Tympole had swam backwards somewhat -- orbs of discoloured energy seemed to melt out of the fluff that surrounded his body. The orbs of energy seemed to fly around him as he extended one stubby arm. The orbs spiralled around this arm, turning dark purple as they left the end of his arm.

Whirling towards Tympole, the orbs seemed to freeze him with fear -- perhaps it was the darkness infused in them. After looking at Tympole properly, Argent disregarded that notion. The electrical charge that he had been subjected to at the start of the battle was locking him in place -- the Tadpole Pokémon could not move an inch. He still somehow floated on the surface of the water, allowing the orbs to strike him. The force of the Hidden Power seemed to push him out of his immobility, but Tympole did not make another move after recovering from the attack, shaking himself in the water. As he did so, the seeds that had been wrapped around him glowed bright red once more, and that same glow could be seen enveloping Whimsicott a split-second later; Tympole was once more damaged by Leech Seed, and his own Aqua Ring was having absolutely no effect for him now. The oddly humanlike face of Tympole's furrowed in what seemed to be a frown, which was a surprising change from what seemed to be the almost permanent smile he wore.

Whimsicott danced into action once more, casting what seemed to be green links towards Tympole immediately after the Tadpole Pokémon had surfaced properly. Those links wrapped around Tympole, and through them seemed to pulse raw energy, but it seemed that the direction of the pulse was coming from Tympole and into Whimsicott. The fluffy Pokémon seemed to be energised as Tympole lost even more strength to carry on. As Whimsicott withdrew his links, both Pokémon flashed red once more, signifying that Leech Seed had bit back again. Whimsicott was looking every bit as strong as it had coming into this fight, while Tympole was looking extremely bad. However, Whimsicott's pink, translucent shield dropped; Light Screen had dissipated.

Despite this, Tympole was not done yet. Seeing the barrier that had restricted his movepool disappearing into thin air, he knew what he should do as a last-ditch effort to try and fight back. Orbs that seemed similar to the ones Whimsicott had conjured moments ago were woven into the air, and they spun above Tympole in a circle. Tympole leapt from the water for a moment, twisting acrobatically as if the paralysis was not really restricting him at all. He smacked his tail into one of the orbs, directing it towards Loki, and all the rest followed suit. It was a clear connection -- Whimsicott was not fast enough to evade this provoked attack. He seemed a little taken aback at the crystallic orbs that had been formed, as if they had dealt more damage than he would have expected.

Now was the time for Garth to attempt a capture, it seemed to Argent.

“Nah, man, let’s try and avoid it, if not, here is this doll so we can escape.”

I wasn’t too surprised by this, not only because he might have already had one, but also because Slowking would be a tough creature to battle. It was a worthy Pokemon, but one could easily battle the much weaker Slowpoke and evolve it instead.

The Slowking was staring at us, but it had the blank look on its face so I don’t think it is paying much attention to us. Slowpoke and its evolutions weren’t exactly there all the time, they could space out.

I steered Starmie around the rock formation and continued on. We had only just got out of sight of the Slowking when I spotted a pair of red orbs floating in the water. Upon closer inspection I saw that it was a Tentacool, a fairly common Water and Poison type. I was certain Cameron wasn’t interested, but I gave him a questioning glance anyway.

    @AmericanTreeFrog

Not long after leaving the Slowking did we encounter a Tentacool. I really wanted to capture it, but I didn't want to stop to battle it. I just wanted it to hop into my Pokemon without me having to do anything... if only. There were a couple of things I would go for if I saw them, but I didn't want to waste any of my remaining time on any other Pokemon than Phione. It was my priority. I just shook my head back at Gaius and waited for him to continue leading the way. I was starting to lose hope that I'd actually see a Phione today, looked like an eighth trip would have to be planned.

Whimsicott’s attacks worked really well on the Tympole. The small Water Pokemon was hurt a good deal of damage from the combined power of Hidden Power and Mega Drain, but the Pokemon was by no means out of the fight. It struck back hard and also did some damage, making up for the healing effects of the Mega Drain.

As the two Pokemon separated from one another Whimsicott was obviously the winner of the exchange, and Tympole was not. The Tympole still had more health than I normally liked, but it was still a good time to catch the Pokemon.

I pulled out a simple Parkball, activated it, and chucked the thing at Tympole. Hoping I would catch the Pokemon and be able to move on.
