@AmericanTreeFrog; OOC: What were the genders of your mons, or did you never pick them?

“While I do want a Dratini, I’ll have to pass up on this one, though. Let’s see if it leaves us alone, if not I’ll use one of my Pokedolls to escape from it,” Garth said, after examining this thing for a few moments. He obviously had some thoughts about catching this, but decided not to, probably since he had captured that Totodile only moments before. It was understandable seeing as how he could only capture one more Pokemon. Besides Dratini weren't the easiest things to battle, I mean being a pseudo legendary, you knew it would put up a tough fight.

I looked at Garth, and nodded. I didn't think that this thing would really attempt to give us trouble, because it did seem to enjoy being in seclusion, and hidden from the world, but hey you never knew for a fact. We started to walk, and the creature, just stuck its head back underwater, and left without giving us any trouble. It had probably just been curious as to what was going on, since it heard us walking no doubt.

Now that our encounter with Dratini had played its phase, we were ready to keep going, though there wasn't a whole lot of ground to cover. I mean due to the area being mostly water, it was essentially just all about looking around at the water, and seeing if any of it started moving on its own. If it did, it meant that a Pokemon was probably going to be showing up from there at some point soon. I had looked around, and about twenty or so feet to our right I happened to see another creature show some interest in us.

At first all it really did was stick its horn out of the water, but before too long at all it's entire upper body showed up, and I could make out what Pokemon it was. It's body was generally white in color, though it had some orange markings around its body. It had a single fin on its body. While this Pokemon wasn't exactly the most powerful, or rarest it's evolved form was used, mainly due to a saying with its name.

To my delight the little Dratini decided we weren’t worth the trouble and dove back underwater. We had only just got away from the Dratini when my ranger spotted some movement to the right. A horn poked from the water at first, but a white and orange body followed right after. It was a Goldeen, one of the weaker Water type Pokemon one could catch.

“Do you have any desire to battle this Goldeen?” I heard the question from the ranger.

“Not even I slight twitch,” I admitted. When I caught a Goldeen it would only be because I was desperate to catch a Pokemon, or because it was one of the final Pokemon I needed.

    @AmericanTreeFrog;

“Not even I slight twitch,” Garth said. Guess I wasn't too shocked to hear such a thing, I mean Seaking wasn't the best Pokemon. Sure with Swift Swim, and a Swords Dance it could do some damage, but like with Dratini if this wasn't the last Pokemon he could capture, then why bother since he could only leave with four, and already had three? Not like it would take him much effort to get a Goldeen in the future if he wanted one anyway so.

I started to lead him around the Goldeen, figuring it wouldn't really give us any trouble from the water, but hey you never knew for a fact what sort of stunt a Pokemon would pull, so. We started walking on the way, and the Goldeen just looked at us, and headed back underwater. I guess it too, like Dratini, was just curious at the sound of people passing on by. Well whatever, we got away from it, and it was onto looking for another Pokemon for Garth to either battle, or pass up on.

We walked down the path for another five minutes, but nothing had shown up just yet. Perhaps the Pokemon weren't interested in looking for a battle, or maybe most of them just enjoyed hanging around underwater, and didn't feel like coming up to the surface for no reason. I wasn't exactly sure myself, but hey I knew something had to show up sooner or later, right? A few moments later something did in fact show up now.

It was a little turtle like Pokemon, and one of the oldest, or first, Pokemon discovered. It's body was light blue in color, and much like a turtle it had a shell, that it could throw its entire body into if it needed to, or wanted to do so. While its shell was mainly for defense, it could also be used for good offense, such as helping out with Hydro Pump, or being used for powerful moves such as Takedown. It was certainly an interesting Pokemon, and one that had potential when fully evolved, when used in the right hands.

When continued along a few minutes and didn’t find anything right away. After about five minutes a next Pokemon was spotted walking along. It was a Pokemon I had already run into earlier, a Squirtle. Squirtle’s highest evolution was a Blastoise, a powerhouse that couldn’t dish out too much damage, but could take a beating. One of my sisters, one of the ones who was a trainer, had been bugging me for awhile to catch one. I just didn’t feel up to catching and training one just yet.

“Nah, let’s pass up on it. Same deal as before, I have a Pokedoll if needed be.” I pulled out a Pokedoll just incase I needed it.

    @AmericanTreeFrog;

“Nah, let’s pass up on it. Same deal as before, I have a Pokedoll if needed be,” Garth said, when looking at this Squirtle. He seemed to have a little interest in this, but decided to pass up on it for some reason. My guess was that he had probably owned a Blastoise already, and so he saw no need to go after this Squirtle. Ah well, couldn't make him stick around and battle something he didn't wanna face, now could I? So it was time to try to escape once more.

We tried to get past this Squirtle, but the little turtle didn't want any part of that. It decided to get directly in our way, and try to keep us from going on. It must have really wanted a battle. That, or it wanted to be punted like a football. Though unfortunately, due to park rules the latter of the two was forbidden from happen. Stinking standards. So I just got the Pokedoll Garth took out, and tossed it at Squirtle. I was aiming for its head, but it caught it in its mouth, and ran off with the doll.

With that we once again got on our way, though this time I figured we would try back down by the water again, and see if there were any sea creatures looking for a battle or something. You know, maybe something different. We circled around the spot I picked for a few moments, and nothing was instantly showing up, so I intended to lead Garth to a different spot to look, though at that very instant another Pokemon poked its head out of the water to catch sight of us.

It was a jellyfish sort of Pokemon. It had a light blue, and clear body. It had a large red crystal on each side of its body, and one in the middle. At first glance it looked like it was its two eyes, and a nose of some sort, though if you looked really close you could notice two small eyes. It also had two tentacles, which were laced with stinging cells. So as you figured it was part Poison-type as well.

The Squirtle wanted to fight us so I had no choice but to part ways with another Pokedoll, but this run was almost over and I hadn’t used that many, plus I had a good haul of Pokemon already. I tossed the Pokedoll to the ranger, who in turn tossed it at Squirtle. Squirtle bit at the doll and ran off with, happy to have got something.

We continued near the lake and we ran into our next encounter shortly after the Squirtle. This Pokemon resembled a jellyfish with red crystal markings on its sides near its head. I knew that it was a Tentacool.

“Did you wanna battle this Tentacool?” I heard the ranger ask.

“Nope, I already have a well trained Tentacruel, I don’t need another on my team.” I pulled out a Pokedoll from my pack. “You know the drill though, I have these Pokedoll ready just incase.”

I didn't think he would want it, but hey you never knew if he wanted to catch it, and trade it or something. But he made it pretty clear that he no interest in walking away with this Tentacool, so it was time to see if we could continue our lucky streak, and continue to get away.

I wouldn't think that Tentacool would get out the water to battle with us. If it wanted our attention, then it would probably fire out an attack to stop us in our tracks, before we really managed to get away. We started walking, and the Tentacool just ducked back down under the water. It was kind of weird just seeing it show up, and leave so quickly like that, but I guess it just wasn't that interested, or had better things to do. Oh well, wasn't my problem.

We started walking away, but we only took about three steps before I heard noise coming from the water once more. I looked over to see what it may have been, and what I saw was something that we had already seen here before. I wasn't entirely sure if it was the same exact Pokemon as before though, or if it was just another one like it. Though if history repeats itself, then Garth would have zero interest in this, but I needed to ask anyway.

The Tentacool left us a moment later and we continued forward. We had only taken a few steps when another Pokemon popped out of the water. It was a Goldeen, I idly wondered if it was the same one we had run unto earlier.

“Want a Goldeen anymore now, than you did before?” I heard Eric ask.

“I’m still good. I still have a few encounters left, let’s see what else we can find.” Despite having a very low number of Pokemon left that I would encounter, I wasn’t in desperation mode yet so I would pass on the Goldeen.

“I’m still good. I still have a few encounters left, let’s see what else we can find,” Garth said. I knew he didn't want this Goldeen. Though he could have caught it, and ate it for dinner. That would have made it useful, but maybe he wasn't feeling like seafood tonight. That was perfectly understandable though, and so it was now just a matter of escaping from this thing. I didn't think that it would really do anything, but hey you really never knew right?

"Let's see if this gives us any hassle or not," I said to Garth as I waved him along. The Goldeen from before hadn't caused us any concern, but Pokemon were generally a case by case basis, and some felt the need, or want to battle, or get involved with trainers more than others did. In this case though, well, it was the same as before. Goldeen just jumped back down under the water, and didn't give us a second thought. There was now no doubt in my mind that it was the same exact one as before. But at least it gave us no trouble like before too.

We started walking on our way again, and I was keeping my eyes opened for anything at all that Garth may want. I didn't know what he was particularly looking for to finish up his collection here today, but I guessed that any Pokemon would work, only because it beats encountering nothing. We took about five or so minutes, before we got to a small part of land where a small creature was breaking away at some rocks.

It was a fossil Pokemon, that was made clear by the sort of brownish-yellow shell that it had on its back. The body inside of its shell was a shade of blue, and it happened to have ten tentacles, making me think of a squid, or even somewhat reminding me of that Tentacool from before. It also had some pretty large eyes, the kind that would freak you out if this thing just showed up behind you.

Thankfully the Goldeen decided we weren’t worth any trouble, and it quickly disappeared beneath the waves. The ranger waved me forward and we continued to walk along the shore line. After about five minutes we came to a section of the shore and a Pokemon was near there.

The creamish color of its spiral shell told me that right away it was a fossil Pokemon, and which one it was. There was a few Pokemon that carried a shell, and each Pokemon’s shell was recognizable from other Pokemon species.

This one turned out to be an Omanyte, a Water and Rock Pokemon. Not only did I own its evolved form of Omastar, I had two other Rock and Water Pokemon in my collection. Of the Water and Rock type Pokemon I was only missing two, a Corsola and a Relicanth.

“Already have one,” was all I said to the ranger. “Let’s get along.” I still had the Pokedoll from earlier in my hand so I had it ready if I needed to use it.

IC: "Already have one,” was all that Garth said at first. I figured he didn't want this, but hey who knew right? I mean he may not have owned one or something. “Let’s get along,” he said, while still holding onto the Pokedoll he had from earlier. If he needed to use it to escape at some point he should punt it like a football. I think that would be funny at the very least. First thing was first though, and that was trying to get away from this thing.

"Right, let's see if we can get away from this or not. Strange though that a fossil Pokemon had already been revived. Usually these things are just known for being found in their fossil form," I said under my breath. Though no matter what its deal was, Omanyte just looked at us, and jumped into the water, heading down to the bottom of the sea. Lucky for Garth he once again got to hang onto his Pokedoll.

We went to walk away, but before we could this little Pokemon, the smallest I had seen this entire run, and no doubt one of the smallest Pokemon ever bounced in front of us. It had no arms, as well as tiny ears, and feet. Its ball like tail was bigger than it's actual body. The body, and tail itself was just regular blue in color, and it usually had a face like it was going to cry, but right now it tried to look intimidating. "Seriously? This thing is trying to scare us?"

"Garth, I already know your answer, but you know the drill."

“Well, the last time I was here I found the same species, maybe it’s the same Pokemon. It’s a long shot, but you never know.”

The Omanyte took one last look at us before diving and heading away from us. We were just getting ready to move along when a small Pokemon came bouncing up to us, trying its best to look intimidating, but failing miserably.

“Seriously?” Eric said, flabbergasted. “This thing is trying to scare us?” I cracked a smile at that. “Garth, I already known your answer, but you know the drill.”

“I sure do. Let’s see what my last encounter is, maybe this little guy just wants my doll here.”

@AmericanTreeFrog; OOC: You actually still have two encounters left

IC: “I sure do. Let’s see what my last encounter is, maybe this little guy just wants my doll here,” Garth said. Though, I don't believe he was counting right, cause I had looked at what he had already run into, and based on what I saw it was only eighteen Pokemon, so that meant there were still two other Pokemon for him to run into. But I guess he would end up finding that one out sooner or later. The matter at hand now though was getting around this thing, but I honestly didn't believe that that would be a challenge of any sort.

I just picked up my head, didn't look twice at this thing. I didn't feel like it deserved my attention, and besides Garth didn't want to catch the thing anyway, so there wasn't much of a point in acknowledging it. I've found that when you just ignore Pokemon they tend to just end up leaving you alone anyway, unless they have a great fighting spirit. Though I didn't suspect to see that out of this Azurill, and I was right. We managed to get around it, without it giving us the least bit of trouble. It just went ahead, and bounced on out of here.

We continued to walk for another few minutes, until we got to another decent sized body of water. I took a look down into the water, and from it arose a Pokemon. According to his encounter list, this had been something that Garth not only ran into already, but had captured too. I guessed it was a sibling of the one he captured, or something. It was a shark Pokemon. One that wasn't the best defensively, but it was certainly powerful. I had no idea if Garth wanted another or not, but it couldn't hurt to ask.

"How about this Carvanha?" Eric asked me after we had walked away from the last Pokemon. Just like I, he knew my answer, but it was his job to pretty much state the obvious and guide me through this place.

"Let it go, if not, I still have that Pokedoll ready."

Since I was running out of Pokemon to encounter I really hoped the last Pokemon I saw was something I wanted to catch. If it wasn't then I would be out of luck and a Pokemon. I was almost wishing I had chosen to catch that Remoraid I had passes up on earlier. The only reason I hadn't caught it was because I was sure I would find something better to add to me team. If i didn't end up catching something at least I still had the three Pokemon I had already caught.

    @AmericanTreeFrog;

"Let it go, if not, I still have that Pokedoll ready," Garth said when checking out this Carvanha. I figured he didn't want it, but hey I didn't know that for a fact. Maybe he had wanted a second one for himself, or knew of someone else who would wanted one. He didn't though, and that was fine. Now it was just a matter of getting him away from here, and leading him to his final Pokemon. Didn't know what that was going to be, but finding out was half of the fun.

First thing was first, and that was getting away from this Pokemon. I intended to just use my straight forward method. I put my head down, turned my back on Carvanha, and started leading Garth away in an opposite direction. This worked like I had hoped, because we got away from it without any hassle needing to happen. That was always great when that feeling sunk in. Now it was onto finding one more Pokemon for him, which actually didn't take more than just walking a few steps into the next body of water.

It was a long, eel-like creature, which was pink in color. It was pretty lengthy. While it had been primarily pink, it had two purple shells on its chest, as well as some purple on the end of its tail, namely its fin and at the end of the antenna on its head. This was actually a different evolution of a Pokemon, cause said Pokemon it evolved from could become something else as well. As far as I knew Garth already had one of these, but I still needed to double check with him to be safe.

"Here is your final encounter, a Gorebyss."

    Summer.

The seasons had interminably rolled by, and once more Argent was looking through the windows of the office in which he worked at a bright new day. The sun cast warm rays to the ground, illuminating everything it fell upon. Since the now-hot climate also heated up the office, the rangers were doing their best to stop themselves from becoming too hot. The windows were open, and most desks now had fans on them, blasting cool air at those who sat at them. Argent, that day, had managed to get himself to the Great Lakes' outpost. The mixed waters there mostly seemed to generate a breeze of some nature, and the cool temperature -- not to mention the largely refreshing scent -- made the Great Lakes one of the best areas to work near during the summer. Some of Argent's colleagues had even gone so far as to do their paperwork outside, obviously not able to tolerate the increasing warmth indoors. Argent, content with his fan, as well as the idly flapping tail of his lifelong companion, a Chimecho, simply sat at his desk. He was -- oddly enough -- out of paperwork to complete. He had a natural tendency towards hard work, and so he was not as burdened with work as his other colleagues were, as he finished everything he was given routinely and with equal amounts of effort.

He was listlessly surfing the internet to pass the time. However, one can only do so for so long before becoming extremely bored. In time, even the patient Argent had to admit that sitting in front of a computer screen on such a good day was really a waste -- not to mention terribly languorous. A run would be one of the best ways to spend that day. So, logging on to the 'ranger website', as he liked to call it, he swiftly found a run for the Great Lakes. He knew that the National Park would be in a little higher demand that day, for the good weather was always going to bring more people outside. He quickly accepted the run, asked for by one Garth Crysis. At first, Argent thought that the forename was a misspelling of 'Gareth', but he supposed that parents these days tried to be as creative as they could with names, which resulted in unfortunate children called ridiculous things. Argent knew that his name was outlandish, but he was thankful that his parents had had the foresight not to call him something like 'Peaches' or 'Spaceboy'. That would have gained him an immense amount of teasing in earlier life. Fortunately, his name was not as ridiculous as some. After musing a little about the name, he decided that it was probably time to change, pack a few things and then leave before his trainer got there.

He changed into a pair of his 'jammers', as he liked to call them, and swapped his black shirt for a light jacket. His sandals didn't need changing. Slinging a satchel over his shoulder, he slowly drifted outside, closely followed by Chimey. He decided it would be best to wait at the gate to the Outer Lakes, which sat in front of a ramp that slowly declined into the water. Leaning against the gate, he prepared himself for a wait before Garth came. It occurred to him that he hadn't got a Water-type Pokémon with him to swim with, but that really wasn't too much of a problem. He gave a sidelong glance to Chimey, who returned his look with a wary gaze.

Please, Chimey. It's not like I'm going to punch you, Argent told her plaintively.

Then what do you want? she asked in reply. She was a tiny Pokémon of a pale blue-and-red colouring. Her body -- or head, Argent wasn't sure which -- was a spherical shape, and three stubby protrusions that seemed to be arms stuck out of it. Her eyes were a golden yellow, and she had some sort of growth on her head that Argent couldn't really identify. Her tail drifted around involuntarily in the light breeze, causing a faint tinkling to be emitted from her.

Could you see if Assan would get here? Argent asked of her. Assan, a Floatzel, tended to wander on occasion, and Argent didn't try to restrain that. He just wished that the Water-type wouldn't go so far away.

I made sure that I had everything I needed and I headed for the Great Lakes. This would be my third there if my memory was correct. It was one of the two places I had visited in the National Park, the other being Meteor Valley for a special event. I was trying collect all of the Water Pokemon outside of legends so it made sense to head to the Lakes.

My last trip had been a good one. Not only had I obtained five grand in pictures, I got some really good Pokemon, especially one I really wanted. I wasn’t sure what I would find for this trip, but I was prepared for anything that would come my way. I even bought some new park items.

When I got to the Great Lakes I found my ranger waiting there, one Argent Silverswift. I exchanged a greeting with the young man and waited to enter the park.

It wasn't long before Argent spotted the trainer he was to be taking through -- Garth Crysis. He seemed to be a fairly young man, and Argent at least hoped they'd get on reasonably well. He'd been in awkward situations before when the ranger-trainer relationship hadn't worked out, and that made doing his job quite hard. Argent could tell that Garth seemed to be at least a marginally amicable sort of person, because as soon as he came over, he wasted no time in exchanging a greeting with Argent.

"Oh, hello. Garth, I presume?" Argent asked once the trainer approached. He extended a hand and shook Garth's, before withdrawing it once more. "All right. I'm sure you're a regular to this area -- well, I was looking over your files, anyway, and you seem to be -- so you'll know what's expected of you while you're here. I'm sure you'll be fine, though. Come on with me, and we'll start exploring the Great Lakes, yeah?" Argent flashed Garth an encouraging grin before turning his back on the trainer in order to unlock the gate. After pulling it open, he ushered Garth through gently, closing and locking the gate to the area once they were both on that slope that descended into the water. At the very end of the run-off point, a familiar orange creature was treading water, and Argent smiled brightly -- it seemed Assan had responded to Chimey's summons after all. Argent led Garth down to the edge of the freshwater lake they were about to enter, feeling the breeze that was stirred above the lake, but not much troubled by it due to the heat of the day otherwise.

Argent slunk into the water almost immediately, and clung to Assan, who supported him in the water easily. Then he swam off with Assan, Chimey resting herself on the Floatzel's back as they swam, leading Garth closely through the water. [OOC: WITH WHATEVER SORT OF THING YOU WANT]

After a little while of swimming, they came near a sandbank, with a seal Pokémon of some description lazing upon the presumably warm sand. Its eyes were closed in what seemed to be pleasure, and Argent chuckled at how it wriggled around on the sand to try and get more of the warmth. This Dewgong seemed to be a rather playful creature, and whenever it hit a particularly hot patch, it gave out a joyous barking noise.

Aww, that's adorable, Argent noted to Chimey. Then, out loud, he asked Garth, "Hey, do you want to catch this Dewgong?"

I exchanged greetings with Argent and headed into the park with him. Argent set off for the first lake in the area, where a Floatzel seemed to be waiting for him to show up. As Argent climbed on the back of his Pokemon, I called forth my Starmie and did the same.

Argent headed for the middle of the lake and I followed closely behind. We had been traveling for a while without spotting a Pokemon and both myself and Starmie were becoming restless. We finally reached a sandbar and spotted our first Pokemon basking in the sun on the sand.

“Hey, do you want to catch this Dewgong,” Argent called out to me.

“No thanks. Let’s leave it be. If it wants to follow us I have a Pokedoll we can use.”
