"Alright Steve, now you're all up again. Let's get back into the fight! It looks like the Castform is pulling some type of Fire move up its sleeve, you're just gonna have to try to bear the move as best as you can! Use Defense Curl!" Bill called out.

Steve roared in agreement, and he curled up tight, clenching his muscles to increase his defenses and to hide any weak spots he might have. As he did this, the red glow around the Castform grew brighter and brighter. Eventually, with a small squeal of effort, the Castform launched the redness up towards the roof of the greenhouse. The almost gas-like attack passed harmlessly through the roof. I initially though nothing had happened, but then I realised I was sweating. More than usual. The little Weather Pokemon had used Sunny Day.

I grumbled underneath my breath. I hated the heat, and now I was basically standing inside an oven.

The Castform tried to launch a Fire attack at Steve, but it couldn't. It simply floated in midair, panting. It was only just managing to stay afloat thanks to the paralysis.

I walked past the Main Gate of the National Park. Gliscor was gliding up in the warm air joyfully. Gliscor had been lonely, for he was Bailey's only pokemon so far and he was eager to get a partner to work with in battles. I looked up at Gliscor's joyful face as I approached the Botanic Gardens. I was really starting to question the choice of area. The Botanic Gardens was a place full of grass types, but I was confident in his ability to battle.

As I approached the Gardens, I saw a Ranger there waiting for me. He seemed to be around my age which got me more relaxed for this new adventure. He had a Luxray by his side and the moment that Gliscor saw Luxray, he glided over to the new pokemon to investigate it.

As I approached the Ranger, I called to him, "Hi, my name is Bailey Jefferson. I was wondering if you were the Ranger that was going to escort me around the Botanic Gardens!"

This is going to be an exciting adventure, I just know it. I hope I catch another pokemon or two. I thought to myself.

As I waited, I started to wonder what was taking the trainer so long. I look down at the Pokegear on my hand and saw that it had only been a couple of minutes. Patience, Dee, I told myself. When I looked back up, I saw a trainer approaching me. A Gliscor followed behind, joyously floating through the air.

“Hi, my name is Bailey Jefferson. I was wondering if you were the Ranger that was going to escort me around the Botanic Gardens!" The trainer said with a bit of enthusiasm.

Gliscor immediately flew over to Luxray and started to stare her up and down. Luxray only lay out in the sun. She didn’t seem to notice Gliscor. I looked through the trainer’s file on my Browser and, after confirming that this was indeed the trainer that I was looking for, looked back up.

“Yes,” I said, extending my hand. “I’m Dee, and I’ll be your ranger today!”

I went through the usual speech about following the rules, how to battles, and what to do in an emergency. Then, I stopped talking, strapped my bag over my back, and woke up Luxray.

“Well, if that’s all, shall we get going?”

"Well, if that's all, shall we get going?"

I thought about it for just one minute more. Could Gliscor really take the grass pokemon here? I looked up at Gliscor, who was doing loops in the air with the anticipation of going into the gardens. Of course he can, he has been through thick and thin with me. I'm sure he can handle this, I thought. I looked back to the Ranger.

"Yes, let's get going. I'm excited to see all the different pokemon in the Botanic Gardens!" Gliscor, having heard the comment, swooped down from the sky to land by my side. I smiled at him when he got down to the ground, glad that he was going to accompany me through this new journey.

 

"Whew, Chainy, at least the plants should survive better in this tropical heat than in that chilly snowstorm..." Bill told his Ranger.

Several small Oddish came crawling out of small burrows that were revealed after the piles of slushy snow melted away. The Oddish seemed as if they were cheering Bill and Steve the Dunsparce on, they were cheering for them to win!

Dunsparce looked a bit bulkier now, after strengthening the softer spots of its body.

"Steve, I think we should be able to launch another Headbutt at the Castform! Remember, aim for its head, it will make it flinch!"

The Dunsparce flung itself like a bowling ball toward the Fire-type Castform, with its forehead aiming directly at the Castform's face.

"Hopefully, the Castform will be weak enough for capture!"

"Whew, Chainy, at least the plants should survive better in this tropical heat than in that chilly snowstorm," Bill said as he leaned over to me. I nodded agreement - now I wouldn't have to interfere with the battle. I looked around and saw a group of Oddish tunneling out of the ground. They had come up to enjoy the sun, but like all living creatures they all enjoyed a good fight, so they started cheering for Steve. My earlier guess of the Castform being a bit of a prankster was probably on the money.

"Steve, I think we should be able to launch another Headbutt at the Castform! Remember, aim for its head, it will make it flinch! Hopefully, the Castform will be weak enough for capture!" Bill shouted.

Steve hissed agreement, and he started rolling towards the Dunsparce. When he was close, he stretched himself out and barreled into the barely-floating blob. He struck the Castform right in the middle of the face, and it flew through the air. It crashed into a pot plant base and started spasming slightly. Apparently, it wasn't scared by the Headbutt attack, but that Thunder Wave was still doing an number on it.

After thinking it over a bit, Bailey replied that he was ready to get started. Gliscor must have heard us talking because he swooped over to us and got himself ready to move along too. I nodded and turned around to face where we would be going.

It was bright and early so naturally, the Ledyba were out in the fields, pollinating the flowers. A Heracross was attached to a nearby tree, sucking the nectar from the tree, much to the dismay of a Combee who was most likely using the tree to make honey. I laughed to myself a bit when the Combee attacked the unwary Heracross. It would probably not be a good idea to bother to two Pokémon because they looked pretty upset with each other.

I turned to see a couple of Sunflora dancing in the sun. There were a bunch of them. They moved rhythmically with graceful motions. It was a pretty cool sight to see, but we couldn’t stay long for the show. They probably wouldn’t be an idea encounter because we would most definitely be at a disadvantage. I continued to look around the hustling and bustling garden for a Pokémon that we could battle.

Finally, opportunity presented itself when I saw a lone Sunkern trying its best to get to the Sunflora group that was dancing. The poor baby Pokémon was constantly tripping over itself. I felt kind of bad that I was smiling. While trying to keep out the fact that I found Sunkern’s misfortune humorous, I pointed towards it for Bailey to see.

“Look,” I said. “There’s a Sunkern. Do you want to try to capture it?”

Bill noticed that the Castform was being dashed apart to pieces by its electricity. Bill knew that the Castform may dislike him even if he catched him for causing such intense and terrible pain. So to help soothe Castform a little, Bill took out a spray bottle with a label printed on it saying "CALMING FRAGRANCE PLUS" and began spraying the air around him. The Castform's rage began to deplete, and the Oddish in the background breathed sighs of lax as the soothing incense reached their tingly leaves.

"Alright Chainy, I hope this item helped me ease the battle a little with the Castform" Bill told his ranger hoping that it would be easier to capture the Castform. "Anyways, Steve, alright. You played well today, you may have a good rest in your ball."

Bill's Dunsparce was pleased that he was giving him a break from the intense fight and smiled in relief. Bill withdrew another ball with his sweaty hands from a clip on his belt. This PokeBall seemed quite old and the red coloring was chipping off, it was obvious this Pokemon had been owned by Bill for quite some time.

"Swipes, its your turn! Prepare for battle again!" Bill shouted as he flung his ball into the center of the greenhouse.

The ball flew through the air and landed on the cracked and dried muddied floor of the battlefield that was created from the effects of Castform's weather. The Pokeball's clasps opened and a red light shot out of it. The light slowly formed into a red silhouetted figure of a Pokemon with a long body. In several more split-seconds, Bill's Furret had appeared.

"Okay, lets do this!"

"Alright Chainy, I hope this item helped me ease the battle a little with the Castform," Bill said to me. I nodded, knowing it would. These perfumes hadn't been available in Park stores for very long, but already they were famous. They calmed down Wild Pokemon to varying degrees, depending on the strength of the Wild Pokemon and the quality of the fragrance. I shot a look at the one Bill had used - it was a middle-level one, which was a smart choice keeping in mind Castform's status as an Intermediate Rank Pokemon.

"Anyways, Steve, alright. You played well today, you may have a good rest in your ball," Bill said, returning the Dunsparce to its Poke Ball. He then pulled out a chipped and dented Poke Ball, one I had seen before. "Swipes, its your turn! Prepare for battle again! Okay, let's do this!" Bill yelled.

The Furret appeared on the battlefield in a flash of red. It hissed, recuperated from its fight with the Sunkern. Meanwhile, the Castform had finally overcome its paralysis. Small sparks of electricity were flickering around its cream-coloured body - it was apparently charging some kind of electrical attack.

"Look, there's a Sunkern. Do you want to try and capture it?"

I looked over at the spot where he was pointing and saw a baby Sunkern struggling to get to a group of Sunflora. It was continuously tripping and falling. I thought for a moment before deciding that I did want to catch it. It may not seem like much of a pokemon, but I think that there aren't any weak pokemon. Only pokemon that people think are weak so those pokemon never reach their full potential.

"Yes," I responded. "Let's see if we can get in between it and the group of Sunflora. That seems the most reasonable thing to do."

In response to my offer to battle the Sunkern, Bailey looked over to where I was pointing.

"Yes," he replied. ""Let's see if we can get in between it and the group of Sunflora. That seems the most reasonable thing to do."

I nodded in agreement. It would probably be best to cut off the Sunkern's path. It would probably also be best not to allow the Sunflora a view of going on. Surely, if they saw us battling one of their own, they would attack us. It didn't matter what our intentions were.

"Alright," I said. "I think we can get in between them if we go through there."

I pointed to a wide space that separated the Sunkern and Sunflora from each other. Without sayiing much, I started to move towards the space. I moved very cautious and slowly so as not to surprise the Sunflora, who remained dancing. I kept going until I was at my destination.

As Swipes, Bill's Furret, popped up by his side in the center of the greenhouse wreckage, Castform attempted to make a move. But small sparks crawled up the bits of fluffy cloud that the Castform's head was fit over, showing Bill the sign that Castform was unable to move.

"Whew, the Castform is too immobilized to pull anything off! Now is our chance! Alright Swipes, you ready to shred things up?" asked Bill to the Furret in enthusiasm.

"Fuurrr fiii!" replied the Furret, shimmering its shiny and neat little claws that popped out of its tiny fingertips.

The Oddish audience in the background of the battlefield were lounging on the dirt floor, sprawled and enjoying the rich rays of sunlight. It seemed as if they were enjoying the side-effects of the battle quite nicely. Bill thought the Oddish were hilarious, and then just remembered that it was sunny. Hold on a second, sunny. Castform's Sunny Form.

"Swipes, sorry, you won't be using your claws right now," said Bill in a smooth tone.

"Reee..." replied the Furret in dissapointment.

"Instead, you're going to be using Aqua Tail. Let's pummel this Castform to a pulp!"

"Fu fur! Reeeeeeet!"

Swipes agreed, type-advantage. The Furret charged towards the immobile Castform, sprung into the air, did a flip, and forced its tail into a long, liquid-like mass.

After Bill's Furret reappeared in the outside world, he unsheathed his claws, preparing to fight. He looked like he was very happy to get the chance to take on the Pokemon that had caused so much trouble for his Trainer.

"Swipes, sorry, you won't be using your claws right now," Bill said almost apologetically. "Instead, you're going to be using Aqua Tail. Let's pummel this Castform to a pulp!"

Swipes looked like he was about to ignore the command, but then a flash of insight told him his Trainer's plan, and he agreed with it. He barreled towards the immobile Castform, and as he did so some of the lingering water on the ground from the hail flew up to surround his tail. As he ran, his tail swished from side to side, collecting more water, until it was surrounded completely by bright blue liquid. Judging that it was ready, Swipes pulled a front-flip, and smashed the mass of water into the Castform's read head.

The Castform screeched, and the electrical sparks surrounding it disappeared. It shuffled away from the Furret, and began to rise into the air, away from it's antagonist. Apparently, it had decided the best way to take this new threat was long range attacks.

Bill watched as the Castform wobbled around in a wrecked state as it tried to produce a blast of static towards Swipes.

"This is a sign..."

Swipes was about to throw another ambitious Aqua Tail at Castform.

"Swipes, stop."

"Furr?"

Bill had his hand reaching towards the side of his belt, where 4 shrunken Hyper Balls were clipped. He unlatched one of the balls and pressed the button center, which forced the micro-ball to grow into a normal and adequate size.

"Castform, you're mine!" shouted Bill as he flung the Hyper Ball from one side of the wreckage of the greenhouse to the other.

*fwoosh*

The exhausted Castform stared at the ball with eyes widened, with a little grin as if it were happy that it could finally have a rest. The Hyper Ball's clasp popped opened and a red light shrouded over Castform's body, soon swallowing it.

The ball then dropped onto the ground.

OOC: For future reference, you're not allowed to say the ball tapped the Pokemon. It's just so I have more creative options than "It got sucked in but broke free". Also, if your posts aren't good enough, I can just make the ball miss for shits and giggles

Bill unclipped a shrunken Hyper Ball and pressed the button on the front. The ball grew to its regular size, and he threw it at the Castform. I thought it was some trick of the light, but Castform smiled gently as the Hyper Ball tapped it and it was sucked in. The Castform could certainly do with a Trainer - it was a nuisance around here. I just hoped it captured.

The ball tilted from side to side a few times before lying still. The button on the front of the ball gave off a red glow. "Congratulations, you just caught a Castform," I said to Bill as I walked over and picked up the ball. I rubbed off a few mud-marks and stowed it in my pack.

"Ready to move on?" I asked Bill. "By the way, unless you're looking for a second Castform, you should turn off that Pokeplayer."

*Sigh* "I'm extremely exhausted, and I really don't want to cause anymore freakin' damage so I believe our run is over," said Bill in a sleepy, but joyous mood after catching the Castform.

"Swipes, return!"

"Thanks Chainy, for guiding me today!"

"I'm extremely exhausted, and I really don't want to cause anymore freakin' damage so I believe our run is over," Bill said to me. He returned his Furret to its Poke Ball and thanked me for guiding him.

"It was my pleasure," I replied. "Hopefully you'll come back again some time."

I lead Feng back out of the greenhouse complex, and back to the gate. I took out the Poke Balls containing the Sunkern and Castform he had captured, and handed them over to him. As he walked away, back to catch the ferry back to the mainland, I sighed in happiness. Maybe I could have a quick nap before the next Trainer came through.

Suddenly a pink flash filled the room; a green bird was fluttering in front of him. Buzz sighed, he knew what was coming. "Why are you in Ivy's office?" River Tam, Buzz's Xatu, asked.

If you must know, I was looking for the Botanic Gardens forms, Madison said she left a pile in here somewhere, Buzz replied via their mind link. Don't you have someone else you could be bugging?

River tilted her head, Buzz could tell she was reading him to figure out if he was lying. Fortunately he wasn't, River always knew. He learned that the hard way.

"I don't trust you," River said, slowly.

Yeah, yeah, go on, go snark on someone else's fun. Be back in my office soon though, we are off to the Gardens with one of the newest Rangers.

With that River vanished, leaving her signature pink aura. Buzz simply shook his head and wandered to the cluttered desk. It's no wonder Madison didn't know where she put them, this place is a right mess, Buzz chuckled as he began rifling through the desk drawers.

He finally found the form he was looking for, but when he picked it up, he noticed that there was small envelope, unopened tucked away at the back of the drawer. His curiosity got the better of him, quickly he pulled the envelope from its hiding place and took a cursory glance at the front of the envelope.

Buzz raised his eyebrows, the envelope was handwritten so he assumed it was a personal letter, but the post mark was for a few weeks ago, around valentines day. At this thought, Buzz's eyes gleamed with mischeif. She obviously didn't care about the letter, so what harm was there in reading it, he reasoned, as he tore it open. His eyes scanned the embossed letter within, someone had put a lot of effort into this letter.

The first line did what any great introduction did, intrigue. "My Dearest Ivy,"

His eyes darted to a few key phrases, "... she was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen.", "The Gliding Super Hero and the girl as cold as winter ..."

Buzz burst out laughing, tears of mirth trickled from his eyes as he couldn't contain his laughter. An evil plan formed within his head in seconds, and he rushed off to the neares photocopier behind the main desk. This'll teach her for laughing at me and the guys.

Soon the envelope with its later were safely tucked away back in Ivy's drawer, the photocopied version however, hung pinned to the ranger notice board for all to see. Buzz hoped James and Leo would get a look before Ivy could remove it.

Buzz chuckled all the way to Siless' office, one of the newest rangers to have past through the academy. Buzz hadn't had much chance to talk to him, so this would be good. He knocked and slowly opened the door. "Hi, Siless, I'm Buzz I saw your internal email about wishing to go to the Botanic Gardens. You nearly ready to get going, I'll be your ranger," Buzz said as he popped his head into the small office.

Buzzer came to pick me up from my office. I.. really did not like that look in his eyes, but if it was what I thought it was... it was probably best for me to keep out of it. Still, it probably wasn't involving my run in any way, shape, or form, besides using it as a reason to get out of the building.

"Yeah, I'm ready." I hadn't really needed much change from my normal ranger equipment I had on all the time; I just needed to change my small black bag of emergency ranger supplies for... a small black bag of my supplies for going on runs myself. Well, for anything I didn't have in my pockets at least. I strapped the bag onto one of my belt loops for ease of access. I let Sela, my Gardevoir, out of her Pokéball; she was napping in preparation for our run, so I figured I should get her up now that it was starting. She had chewed me out for not doing so before...

"So, we're going to the Gardens, which is across the Valley," I said, more speaking to myself than to Buzzer. I followed him to his office, not really knowing why until I saw River Tam, his Xatu. "I guess we're Teleporting there?"

"Yeah, I'm ready," he said. He qiickly grabbed some of his personal supplies and released a Gardevoir from its Poke Ball. Buzz quickly walked back to his office, with Siless just behind, Buzz proceeded to gather up the last couple of things he needed.

Then a pink flash and River Tam landed on the desk. She was giving Buzz an evil stare.

"I knew you were up to no good, I saw what you pinned up. You realise when Ivy sees that you are done for," River said.

"Ooh i'm sooo scared," Buzz mocked, before realising he had said it out loud. "Well, i don't know if you two have met, but this is my incredibally sarcastic Xatu, called, River Tam."

Once the introductions were done, Buzz instructed River to teleport the group to the outpost in the gardens. In a flash of pink light, they were surrounded by a green field. Stood in front of the small ranger outpost, the brick building was a check in point for all runs. Buzz poked his head into the outpost, winked at the receptionist, who burst into a fit of giggles. Buzz had to sign off on a document so they were covered for the journey.

With the paper work completed, he instructed to Siless that they would be heading off near the greenhouse. The park grew its own vegetables; something about it being better for the the environment and humanitarian stuff. In reality, for Buzz, it just mean another place where Pokemon gathered.

"Hey, so I see you brought a Shroomish Voice Disk, now you can activate it any time, but we monitor the spore levels in the park; we don't want all the wild Pokemon falling asleep," Buzz said. "At the moment, in the area near the outpost and the greenhouse the levels have been abnormally high. So you could save your disc till after we leave the Greenhouse, if we don't encounter a Shroomish there?"
