While Bill was walking around with Steve, Ranger Chainy noticed a peculiar sound. The ranger moved a pot plant and a white puff-like cloud whooshed towards him playfully, spraying freezing moisture onto his skin.

"What you're looking for is in there," said Chainy to Bill, pointing at the pot plant. "Go nuts."

Bill didn't notice and turned towards the ranger's direction. He soon realized what was going on and his jaw dropped.

He crouched down to the ground.
"Oh"
He started wobbling around, arms and legs shaking.
"My"
He blasted into the air in a jump of celebration.
"GOD!"

"Sparrrrceee...."

"Yea Steve, let's do this!" Bill directed his Dunsparce at the Quart-sized white fluff.

"Oh my GOD!" Bill screamed in delight, jumping around and dancing a strange wobbly dance of celebration. I took an unconscious step away from the sudden noise source. Bill's Steve also seemed pleased, but he was a bit quieter in his joy.

The Castform looked up at Bill, curious and yet not frightened in the slightest. It rose up from its place of concealment, and as it did so a brisk wind began blowing through the greenhouse, rustling the plants and frightening lots of nearby Pokemon. They squealed and ran away, some moving outside the greenhouse and the others hiding behind plants at the farthest end.

The Castform trilled with pleasure as the wind ruffled its little tail and the spike on its head. It then began charging a Thunderbolt attack. The sparks appeared all over its body, but they moved around and began coalescing into a ball in front of its body. Steve moved in front of Bill, ready to battle.

Bill's trance over his discovery soon phased out as he noticed that the Castform was starting to prepare a deadly ball of static volts by rubbing its cloud-like body together.

"I don't think we'd handle that Thunderbolt that well Steve! Let's halt it with Protect!" ordered Bill towards his Dunsparce.

Steve nodded, "Ssssparce!"

Its eyes began glowing as it formed a sphere-shaped barrier surrounding its fluttering body. The little streams of light that matched its eye-glow swirled around the circumference of the barrier.

"Chainy, do you have any recommendations on how to weaken Castforms?" Bill swiftly checked with the ranger, while he was multitasking orders towards Dunsparce and looking through his Trainer Handbooks.

OOC: It used Tailwind before powering up the Thunderbolt. If you mean how is it physically possible, I dunno. It blew open a door or something.

"I don't think we'd handle that Thunderbolt that well Steve! Let's halt it with Protect!" Bill called out to his Dunsparce. Said Dunsparce hissed his agreement and a glowing spherical shield swirled into existence, emanating from his eyes. when the shield was done, it fully contained the Dunsparce, shielding from any attack imaginable.

"Chainy, do you have any recommendations on how to weaken Castforms?" Bill asked me. As he did so, he was flipping through a few books he had brought with him. Advising a Trainer wasn't technically against the rules, so I could answer him.

"Well, I don't know your battling style," I started, "but personally I'd just try to get as much damage in as possible, keeping flexible so I can respond to the Castform's form changes. Maybe you could lure it into a form that works well for you: for example, repeated hits with, say, Gyro Ball, might have it change to Fire form, and then you could hit it with a water attack or something."

Bill's team was good and also bad at fighting Castform at the same time. While his Furret and Dunsparce weren't in any serious danger, they couldn't get any massive damage in on the Weather Pokemon. And Castform's flexibility might prove to be Bill's undoing. Furthermore, if there was one thing I knew for certain, it was that Bill's Shedinja would be next to useless.

The lance of lightning smashed into Steve's protective barrier, but couldn't find a way through. The sparks dissipated along with the Protect. The Castform seemed a little irritated, and poked its tongue out at Steve, trying to goad it into action.

"Hmmm alright, I guess it could possibly change the weather conditions to a type advantage," replied Bill. "I'll think about working my way into weakening that Castform..."

After Steve dissipated the ball of lightning, Castform got annoyed and teased the Dunsparce by blowing a raspberry. The Dunsparce's brow muscles showed that it was furious at the Castform.

"Hey Steve! How about lets use Thunder Wave on that Castform? Then, it can't get the speed advantage of Tailwind!" Bill told his Pokemon.

Steve nodded in agreement and opened its mouth, generating a vicious flare of purple static... preparing to launch it directly at the "pestering" Castform.

While his Dunsparce was preparing to paralyze the target Pokemon, Bill prepared a strategy in his head:

Alright, by using Gyro Ball on Castform... it will probably manipulate the sun's intensity becoming a Fire-type. After becoming Fire-type, Steve could hit it hard with an Ancientpower! Seems like a flawless plan!

"Hey Steve! How about lets use Thunder Wave on that Castform? Then, it can't get the speed advantage of Tailwind!" Steve called out.

It was a solid plan. Leaving the Castform to its own devices would mean that it would outspeed Steve, which is rarely a good thing. Steve nodded his agreement with his Trainer, and he opened his mouth wide. Purple sparks began swirling around in his mouth. After a few seconds of the attack charging, it looked like there was a whirlpool of purple water in Steve's mouth. He launched the attack with a grunt, and the purple sparks shot out towards the Castform. Even though it was moving faster due to its Tailwind, it couldn't avoid the shotgun-like blast of electricity. The purple sparks climbed all over the Castform's white body, clearly affecting its muscles.

The Castform squeaked, and tried to return fire, but it fell onto the ground, spasming. It had been fully affected by the paralysis. I looked over at Bill and I saw that he was preparing a plan. Suddenly, he nodded, as if the plan was figured out.

"Steve, use Gyro Ball on Castform!" he called out, and the little Land Snake Pokemon curled up and began rolling towards the landbound Castform. The rolling Dunsparce took on a silvery sheen, and he plowed into the Castform, sending it flying into a pot plant before returning to his position in front of Bill.

The Castform groaned, but managed to float back up to eye level. It made an echoing trilling noise, and suddenly the temperature dropped slightly. The air behind Castform had taken on a blue glow. With a triumphant shriek, the air lashed forward, heading for Steve.

Bill started to shiver after the Castform started lowering the temperature to produce one of its attacks.

"Oh... I've seen this before... oh no... it's Icy Wind!" shouted Bill. "Steve, use Protect! I believe that Castform is trying to use Icy Wind to weather you down slowly, reducing your speed to equalize its paralyzed pace!"

The Dunsparce started repeating the process to create the light-shield it created before, glowing the symbol-like patterns around its eyes/eyelids again.

"Oh... I've seen this before... oh no... it's Icy Wind!" Bill shouted to his Pokemon, "Steve, use Protect! I believe that Castform is trying to use Icy Wind to weather you down slowly, reducing your speed to equalize its paralyzed pace!"

Steve moaned, and it began using Protect again, glowing like before. The glow formed into a sphere and locked just as the blue wind smashed into it. The Icy Wind attack circled around the shield, trying to find a way in. But it couldn't. The attack slowly faded away. Steve unraveled the protective sphere, ready to receive commands again.

I expected the temperature to rise again, now that the Icy Wind attack had finished. But it didn't. If anything, the inside of the greenhouse got colder. As my brain processed this, I realised that Castform was bobbing and weaving through the air, performing some kind of dance. White clouds were forming and covering the ceiling of the greenhouse, looking like a really low-down sky. Suddenly, small white objects began falling from the clouds and I realised what the Castform was doing. It was using Hail.

I tapped one of the Poke Balls on my belt and my Dusknoir, Specialle, burst from it in a flash of white light. I smiled at her.

"Put up a protective screen from the Hail, would you?" I asker her.

She nodded, and put her hands up, pointing her palms at the sky. A purple barrier popped into existence over our heads, and a similar (albeit smaller one) appeared over Bill.

The Castform finished the dance, and hail began falling fast and freely throughout the greenhouse. I winced as I realised that the plants would soon be damaged by the razor-sharp ice. If Bill didn't get the Castform out of Windy form soon I might have to end the battle.

The Castform giggled as it surveyed the destruction it was causing. Then it refocused on the battle and a white/blue energy ball started appearing in front of its body. Pieces of hail were sucked into it, fueling it. I recognised it as a charging Ice Beam. Normally, Castform would be able to fire these right away. Perhaps it was getting a little tired.

"The Castform is gonna destroy this place if I don't catch it in time!" cried Bill in terror. "We've gotta beat this Castform up! Steve, launch a Gyro Ball!"

The Dunsparce nodded its head and hissed in agreement. The Dunsparce wrapped itself into a ball, and started glowing. Few seconds later, the Dunsparce stopped glowing - transformed into a metallic ball. This metallic ball started rolling toward Castform, accelerating in speed and velocity.

"The Castform is gonna destroy this place if I don't catch it in time!" Bill cried, "We've gotta beat this Castform up! Steve, launch a Gyro Ball!"

The Dunsparce started rolling towards the Castform, taking on a silvery sheen as it did so. It rolled up an overturned table and flew through the air, striking the Castform solidly on the body. The Castform cried out in pain, and I knew why. The Steel type attack would have done some serious damage to Castform's current Ice-typed form.

Steve rolled back towards Bill, ready to perform his next command. But before he could get there, the Castform launched its Ice Beam attack. The white lance moved along the ground, leaving small icicles sticking up into the air. The beam moved across Steve, pinning him to the ground. The Dunsparce wasn't frozen, but it couldn't move either. I wondered how Bill would get his Pokemon out of this predicament.

Bill noticed that Dunsparce was immobile because it was trapped in a position where it would be hit by the Castform's Ice Beam no matter what.

There was only one way to fend of the Castform's next attack...

"Steve, use Protect! There is no other option!" ordered Bill quickly.

Steve furled up its brow lines and produced another glowing barrier to prepare for the worst that Castform had to offer.

"Steve, use Protect! There is no other option!" Bill called out.

Steve curled up as best he could, and a white-gray glow began covering his entire body. The glow started at his head and moved down to his midsection, leaving no body part untouched.

The Castform didn't see this. The Protect was a similar colour to the snow and slush that was now littering the ground. It fired the Ice Beam at Steve. The light blue lance shot forward, smashing into Steve's immobile body. Thanks to Protect, it had no effect. The beam simply split around Steve's body, landing harmlessly in the slush. Steve released the Protect and began yanking at the ice, trying to free himself.

The Castform was livid. How dare this lowly snake defend itself against his attacks? It began making a shrill screaming sound, and the room dropped even further in temperature. The plants wouldn't be able to take much more. A ball of ice began forming in front of Castform just like before, except this ball was twice the size, and the flurry of snowflakes inside was even more rapid. The Castform was preparing one hell of a Blizzard.

Bill noticed that Castform was preparing a massive ice attack. So to take advantage of the long preparation time, Bill decided to utilize Steve's Serene Grace and Castform's paralysis.

"Alright Steve, good job defending that last attack! Now use Headbutt, aim to flinch the opponent!" ordered Bill.

The Dunsparce started accelerating at the Castform, with its round head heading flat toward the icy Castform. The hail ran along the side of Steve's body as he headed toward the enemy, not slowing him down any further.

OOC: You need to up the post quality a bit. Besides, Castform has an MCR of 25k, you should aim for at least 20k before attempting a capture.

"Alright Steve, good job defending that last attack! Now use Headbutt, aim to flinch the opponent!" Bill called out.

Steve looked at his Trainer, a bit confused. How was he supposed to Headbutt his opponent when he was trapped in the ice? He started yanking at the ice around his body harder, trying to free himself. Finally, it started to crack, and then with one mighty heave he broke himself free. The ice shattered into tiny pieces and Steve started moving towards the Castform. However, he wasn't fast enough.

The Castform squealed as it launched the Blizzard attack. A huge mass of ice and snow erupted out of the glowing white ball that was hovering in front of the Castform. It struck Steve like a freight train, pushing him backwards and into a wall. Luckily, it was a low stone wall, not one of the glass ones that made up the structure.

I looked around, and wasn't happy with what I saw. Lots of plants were damaged, and the greenhouse was shin-high in snow and mud. I sidled over to Bill.

"Not to hurry you or anything, but if the damage gets much worse I'm going to have to move this outside," I said to Bill, "and the open spaces would probably favour Castform more than Steve."

Bill soon became extremely worried after his ranger notified him of the condition that Castform was putting the greenhouse in, and believed that he had to act fast to catch Castform.

"Steve, alright, you're out of the ice now! We've gotta strike the enemy with another Headbutt!"

The Dunsparce understood where Bill was going with it this time. Castform was slower with Thunder Wave, he was quicker. With a series of Headbutts, Steve will be able to totally imobilize Castform.

"sssspaaarrrrrrr..."

Steve soon made another Headbutt.

"Steve, alright, you're out of the ice now! We've gotta strike the enemy with another Headbutt!" Bill yelled, looking a bit worried by my warning.

Steve hissed, and he moved with surprising speed towards the Castform. The Castform trilled a warning and was about to start attacking when the hail stopped falling, and the clouds covering the ceiling suddenly began dispersing. They started moving away, towards the walls of the greenhouse, and they simply faded away as they did so. I breathed a sigh of relief - we probably wouldn't need to move now, not unless the Castform got violent.

The Castform looked around, slightly confused at the disappearance of the Hail. It remembered the Dunsparce too late, and the solid-bodied little ground snake barreled into the floating white blob. The Castform fell to the ground, where it lay. It struggled to get up and face its opponent, but it couldn't manage to. The paralysis caused by the Thunder Wave was finally affecting the Castform. Bill's eye widened as he heard a shriek. Such a terrifying shriek the Castform had made. The Castform was screaming at the top of its lungs in a full throttle of rage and hate. The once cute illusion of Castform that Bill shared about with Ranger Chainy just moments before the encounter was now totally shattered. This Castform was no Pokemon.

It
was
a
demon.

As both Castform and Steve's energy were deteriorating at a rapid rate, he realized that there's probably no chance that there'll be a real winner in the battle. Bill noticed that Castform was totally distracted and immobilized by the paralysis of the Thunder Wave launched just awhile back...

This is a good opportunity...

Bill dropped down onto his knees on the Greenhouse's icy floor, pulling up his backpack. He then opened up the backpack, and frantically began to search for something. In a few seconds, he snagged out a plastic spray-bottle labelled, Super Potion.

"Steve! Come over here, now!"

Bill looked just a little bit disturbed by the Castform's shriek. I had to admit, though, not many Pokemon of that size could make such an intimidating sound. Bill dropped to knees and fumbled around in his backpack, eventually pulling out a Super Potion.

"Steve! Come over here, now!" Bill yelled.

Steve moved quickly away from the Castform and over to his Trainer. Bill pulled the nozzle of the sprayer, shooting a gentle mist over the Dunsparce. Steve initially recoiled away from the sting of the Super Potion, but soon the beginning pain was forgotten as the cleansing took effect. Twenty seconds later, Steve moved back out into the battle, refreshed and ready to help capture this little monster.

The Castform had finally stopped screaming as was doing its best to regain control of its levitation. With great effort, it managed to rise up off the ground a metre or so. It began concentrating on something, but I couldn't tell what. It began to glow red.

After Steve rushed over to Bill, he started uncapping his Super Potion. With the bottle of medical wonders, he sprayed every area he could see where the Dunsparce had a cut, wound, or bruise and it instantly healed.

"Alright Steve, now you're all up again. Let's get back into the fight!"

"Sspppaarce!" roared Bill's Pokemon in a healthy, motivated tone.

"Alright, it looks like the Castform is pulling some type of Fire move up its sleeve!

Hmmm, what should I do? I've got nothing to counteract the move, and Steve is almost out of his power to create a shield of Protect. I don't wanna risk him getting hit by the flames while performing a Headbutt because the Castform was already preparing the move almost the entire time I was healing Dunsparce... I guess I'm just gonna have to hold it off the best I can without too much damage to the remains of the Greenhouse...

"Steve, you're just gonna have to try to bear the move as best as you can! Use Defense Curl!"

"Duuuunnnn *zing* Sparrrrce..."

The Dunsparce curls itself into a oblong roll, with its forehead touching the tip of its tail. Tightening its muscles, Steve creates a tough build to try to withstand the next attack.

I sat at my desk with the latest issue of "Capture On!" magazine. "Capture On!" magazine was THE magazine for Pokemon Rangers everywhere. You weren't really a ranger if you didn't have a subscription to the popular magazine. I turned the pages meticulously so as not to put a crease in the pages. You see, it wasn't even my magazine to begin with and if the owner of the magazine found out that I had it, well, let's say there would be hard times in the National Park.

Just as I was getting into an article about the up-and-coming Pokemon Ranger Ben (who strangle had no last name) and his ukulele-playing Pichu, I could hear the soft sound of approaching footsteps. Immediate and almost without an sort of carefulness, I shoved the magazine into my desk drawer and turned around to see the Park receptionist facing me.

"Hello, Dee" she said in her usual monotonous voice. "I've got a new trainer for you."

"Fine," I said. I took the file from her hand and looked through it.

My newest case was a 19-year old trainer named Bailey Jefferson. I read on, noting that he was about my age: one year younger to be precise. He was to bring along a lone Gliscor as his partner. I questioned to choice to bring a ground-type Pokemon to an area populated by mostly grass-type Pokemon.

I'm sure he'll be able to managed, I said to myself.

After collecting a few park supplies and grabbing my Pokemon, I (along with Luxray, who'd been by my side the whole time) grabbed my bag and left. I went ahead and walked the short distance from the Front Office to the Botanic Gardens. Unlike most of the Park areas, the Gardens were not very far away. I sat down in the grass and waited for the trainer to come along.
