Except any other form of obtaining Pokemon doesn't have that 25% chance; it's either good enough quality (or enough money, etc.) to get it, or you don't have a chance at getting it.

I'd like to suggest that Storm Drain, Magnet Pull, Lightningrod, Intimidate, Stench and Illuminate play a part in the Park. The first three adding an additional chance to encounter Water, Steel and Electric types respectfully. I think the 50% rate, like in game, is a little too much, but perhaps 20-30% would be more feasable. Intimidate and Stench could affect amount of encountered 'mons, or increase likelihood of higher ranking 'mons. Illuminate could increase encounters from 15 to 17/18, maybe.

    Thoughts?

I like this to an extent. We should all talk about it some time.

If you don't do the appropriate work, you don't get the mon, end of story. If you only write 25% of a story, even if that part is really good, you don't get a story mon either.

You may or may not remember, but when they had that Park recall back before there were MCRs, it was really messy and a lot of people lots their mons. That's not happening again. We want to be fair to everyone, so capture is not based on luck, it's based on work.

    Good News and Bad News,

Good News, My school is finally over and I can start working on all my trainers posts.

Bad News, I am going to Army Camp this week so it won't be this week. By all means ask for a better, funnier, more active ranger if you are impatient.

Magnet Pull, Stench, Illuminate, and other such "useless" Abilities could indeed be modified to give them more use in the Park.

As far as the MCR rule, it IS possible to be below the threshold and still attempt to capture the Mon in question. That was why, why I asked DU to redo the Capture Calc Phoenix had first made, for him to factor in if a person was below the MCR (thus the "No" for "MCR Met"). For every 100 characters below the limit the Trainer is, they have 1% knocked off their final Capture Rate. Doesn't seem like much until you realize a mere 1,000 characters below will take away a whole 10% from the final Capture Rate.

That being said, we enforce the MCR in that if you're below it, we WILL count it against you, but that doesn't mean you have 0 chance of catching the Mon. It's kinda like how character requirements in the Story section are more of guidelines for how long a story should be for a specific Mon. Except in the Park, there are stricter rules when it comes to reaching those minimums.

That's true, and for a long time I thought that was okay, but it is posted in the rules that you have to meet MCR before a capture is allowed (although a few things in all the older base posts are probably outdated). Furthermore, it makes it more fair because it's a bit easier to get mons from the Park than say Stories. Since a lot of people think the Park's a little unfair anyway, at least by having to meet the MCR someone has to put enough work into it for it to be a successful capture.

Also, when I brought the issue up with Sam (due to a 25% success rate working when they were 5k short of MCR), that's what he said.

I agree that the MCR should be met before going for a capture, but I always thought it was possible to capture a Pokemon without meeting the MCR, even though it is really hard to do. Also, if people think the park is unfair, they should bring their concerns up with one of the Elites/Head so we can try and fix that. Otherwise, as far as I can see, I don't see it as being unfair.

The Park was unfair a long time ago, clearly. But it's definitely fair now. I didn't think the MCR had to be met, or was originally intended to be met, but I don't really mind what happens. Even if the trainer is under the MCR and tries to spam Park Balls until they capture the Pokemon, the Ranger can have something happen to the ball or have it break-- which is indicated clearly in the 'pedia. I've never seen this happen, so it isn't even a problem.

Yes, a long time ago. Not now though, which is why if someone feels that it is, I'd like to know to try and fix it.
