Clyde didn't seem none too happy about Basculin's endurance to take so many super-effective moves in a row, appearing to grow irritated. “Damnit, your attacks don't seem to be doing any real damage. It's all small crap. I wonder what is protecting this Pokemon? Is it somewhat immune to the super effective moves? ” he ranted out loud.

“The Pokemon that live here have a natural hardiness to attacks,” Makina explained. “They're used to seeing Trainers pass through the area, so they've trained since a young age to endure multiple attacks, as well as picked up a few moves that they normally can't learn in the wild.”

“It took on a Thunderbolt, Charge Beam, and an Energy Ball with her special attack risen a stage and it wasn't even at less than half of its normal strength,” Clyde continued, looking over at Mindbender.

<Save your breath for now, I doubt he heard you,> Aria said, shaking her head. <Besides, he's communing with his partner now, so it would be wise to wait until they're done anyways.>

Makina gave a shrug in reply, then turned her attention to the battle once more. Basculin was still caught in his uproar, so at least Clyde and Leo wouldn't have to worry about any change of attacks from the creature for a little while. Would they use this to their advantage?

Mindbender focused her gaze on the rampaging Basculin, and her eyes took on a shimmering blue shade as she did so. An aura of the same shade began to outline the Water-type as well, though for the moment nothing else happened. It wasn't until Basculin rose from the water once more, ready to continue his attack, that Mindbender activated her Psychic technique. The wild Pokemon was forcibly dragged to shore and slammed to the ground, too winded to let out another screech.

As the aura faded, Mindbender began to emit electricity like before, this one colored a light blue rather than the normal yellow shade. Concentrating the wave into a pulse, the Thunder Wave struck the still land-bound Basculin, gripping it with paralysis.

Seeing that Basculin was both out of his natural element and weakened, Clyde had fished out a Parkball and was now aiming towards the Pokemon, throwing the sphere as soon as Mindbender's Thunder Wave had faded. The Pokemon was sucked in and the orb shook once, twice- and the creature broke free before the third shake. Fortunately, the Parkball managed to miss the water, rolling a couple feet along the sandy shore.

Free once more, Basculin let out a final screech before diving back into the water. She seemed slightly more calm than before, though still eyed the nearby Gardevoir warily. The Uproar had ended, and now she was paralyzed as well; things were going slightly in Clyde's favor now.

OOC: Attempt 2 to capture it.

Alex was beyond frustrated now. The only thing that has worked the way he wanted it too so far was Thunder Wave, everything else might as well have failed. His Parkball hit Basculin, but failed to capture it. He was disappointed.

“The Pokemon that live here have a natural hardiness to attacks,” Makina explained to him, but that still didn't make sense. Yeah, they could probably take hits, but three super effective moves in a row was a bit hard to believe. “They're used to seeing Trainers pass through the area, so they've trained since a young age to endure multiple attacks, as well as picked up a few moves that they normally can't learn in the wild.” She went on, but she might as well have been saying 'blah blah blah', because that as all I was hearing.

"What do you want me to use now?" Mindbender asked him telepathically.

"I don't even know anymore." Alex shrugged. "I don't really think it matters. Any move you do won't do much damage. Use Thunderbolt again I guess. Use Psychic not as an attack, but as a way to keep it in the water to ensure more damage be done." I said to be. "Then levitate that Parkball I already threw over towards Basculin and capture that son of a bitch."

"Right away." She said. Immediately she began gathering as much electricity as she could. She was going to hit this Pokemon hard this time. I wasn't really expecting her to do much damage, but at least if it did a little, it might but her at the edge we needed to finally capture this Pokemon. She would launch her Thunderbolt at Basculin the moment that it was charged, if it attempted to jump out of the water, she would use Psychic to knock it down. It helped that Basculin was parayzed, but I doubted that it would active this turn.

    Commencing...

He took a while to think about my question. He pulled out a Pokedex and did a quick scan. It looked like my brothers and I weren't the only ones that used a Pokedex in the park. I hadn't seen many trainers, but it appeared to be catching on now. It was a good way to start the battle because it gave a bit of useful... and useless information about the Pokemon at hand. Garth appeared to be satisfied with what he heard from the Pokedex, because he wanted to battle it. I waited to see which one of his four Pokemon he would use in battle.

“Come on out, Flipper,” He said, tossing a Pokeball in front of him. A tall, purple and red frog with poison sacs on both sides of his cheeks emerged. He was a pretty cool looking Pokemon.

“Good work, Toxicroak. I want to start this battle off with your Fake Out move and follow that up with a Flatter move.”

Fake Out was a move that made the user attack at a much faster speed than most other regular attacks. Almost always, the Pokemon would strike its opponent without the opponent striking back. It was a weak move, but it was better than nothing, and at least allowed him to strike first.

Flatter was an interesting choice. That move was like Swagger, but instead of raising the Attack stat, it rose the Special Attack. Now people would ask why he would do this, but the side effect was that it also confused the opponent, which made it extremely harder for it to land a blow. I knew that Krabby knew Water type and Ice type attacks, but I wasn't familiar with anything else it knew since neither my brothers or I had owned one before. One thing I was sure of though was that the Krabby's attack more than likely wouldn't do much to Toxicroak, which made him a great choice for this battle.

Toxicroak had already preformed his moves and was now waiting for Krabby to counter with something. The confused Pokemon began spraying water on the ground to get it nice and wet. I wasn't sure what the heck it was doing. Then, it turned its back on us and began scraping its legs on the wet area, sending clumps of mud towards Toxicroak. It was going pretty fast, I wasn't sure that Toxicroak could evade the attack.

    *~~~~~~~~~*

Sure enough, Clyde's temper began to rise as Basculin broke free from the Ball and swam back into the water. Mindbender appeared to mirror her Trainer's temperament as well, launching off another Thunderbolt straight towards the wild Pokemon.

Basculin attempted to swim out of the way, but the movement was sluggish; she was still getting used to her hindered movement thanks to Thunder Wave. The bolt hit dead-on and, powered by the Gardevoir's malice and the water, appeared to daze the Pokemon. She floated limply in the water for the moment, trying to catch her breath.

While Basculin was unable to react, the Parkball hovered right above the Water-type before dropping down on the fish, powered by Mindbender's telekinesis. Once again Basculin was sucked in, barely shaking before the Ball let off a ping, confirming the capture.

“Well, that's one down,” Makina said. “I'll take that, if you don't mind?”

Aria relayed the message over to Mindbender, and the two conversed a moment before the Gardevoir transferred the Parkball over, and the sphere floated over Makina before the Ranger pocketed the ball into a side pack.

“Just say when you're ready to continue, and we can head out,” Makina said to Clyde.

“Well, that's one down,” Makina said. “I'll take that, if you don't mind?” He just shrugged. At this point, he was pretty tired. He just wanted to forget all about that battle and move on. Clye didn't want to let that one battle ruin his whole trip here, he still had long ways to go, and he was going to make it count.

“Just say when you're ready to continue, and we can head out,” Makina said to Clyde.

Clyde took a moment to examine Mindbender to make sure she was alright. When he was content, he nodded towards Makina. "Okay, we're ready to go now." He said. He hoped he had more good stuff in store for him. He couldn't wait to see if he was going to encounter a Phione this time around or not. Knowing how rare they were, he wasn't sure what to expect.

The battle started off according to plan. Toxicroak crouched low before springing forward, a large purple blur against the green and blue background. The Toxicroak stopped right in front of the crab-like Pokemon and smacked the creature with both of its hands. The Krabby stumbled, falling back off its legs as it lost balance.

Toxicroak rebounded back began to clap at the Krabby, infusing its will into the move, thereby making the Pokemon confused, but raising its special attack. It would be a worthy exchange in my opinion.

The Krabby had just barely regained its balance when the Flatter started to take hold. Its spindly legs wobbled , a symptom of its confusion. To my surprise it started to shoot water from its mouth in an erratic manner. The water quickly caused the ground around the Water Pokemon to turn boggy, turning it to mud.

The Pokemon ignored the mud and focused in on Toxicroak, who was calmly waiting for the Krabby to do something. The Pokemon blinked its bulbous eyes at Toxicroak before turning around. I thought the Pokemon was going to retreat or something, but instead it began to use its small legs to fling thick batches of mud at Toxicroak.

I inhaled sharply at the sight, it was Mud Shot, a weak Ground attack, but a Ground attack nonetheless. Thanks to Toxicroak’s Poison type it was weak to Ground moves, and it possessed no such counters to those type of Pokemon. Because of this Ground types were a bane to Toxicroak, I usually switched her out at the first sign of them. But that wasn’t really an option here because it wouldn’t serve that much of a purpose.

Normally I would have tried to dodge any such attacks, but in this case I decided it would be too risky to warrant such a try. Luckily I had one move that would be very useful in this case.

“Toxicroak, go for your Protect move!” I commanded the frog.

Protect was one of the common taught moves around, simply because it protected the user Pokemon from all attacks for that turn. As such it was a move that was in high demand, all the best trainers obtained it and taught it to their Pokemon. The drawback was that it was highly expensive, meaning that only the best trainers could get it because they usually had nice cash reserves. Not all of my Pokemon knew such a move, but I was starting to buy it when I had the cash because in numerous cases I regretted not having it. That would not be this case.

In order to use Protect Toxicroak would create a layer of pure energy around its body in the form of a shield that would disrupt any attacking move that hit the shield. It usually appeared a multicolored energy field, but it was known to show up in many forms, another common view being a coral green.

Toxicroak usually opted for a multicolored one with streaks of lavender running through to honor its Poison type. I would make a quite dazzling spectacle. My next decision was on what I wanted to do to Krabby.

Toxicroak was one of those Pokemon that was versatile, it possessed a good number of moves for a variety of Pokemon. It also had the bonus of having good attack and special attacks, although Toxicroak possessed more physical than special moves. She also knew a bunch of non-attacking moves that would benefit Toxicroak.

But the Krabby had a large amount of health left, meaning that my best bet would be to hit it with a move. So I decided a Poison move would best serve my purposes here, later on I could use a non-attacking move if needed. I picked which move I wanted and called out to my Pokemon. “Toxicroak, after Protect charge it go for a Poison Jab move!” Hopefully Poison Jab would inflict poison status on the Krabby, but I wasn’t going to rely on it, it would just be nice as it aided in the capture of a Pokemon.

After examining his Gardevoir to make sure that she was alright, Clyde nodded to Makina. “Okay, we're ready to go now,” he said.

“Alright then, let's head out,” Makina replied. “You mentioned earlier that you were looking for Phione. Were you looking for anything else here? The Lakes is a pretty big place, after all.”

<We're in the wrong area for Phione anyway,> Aria pointed out to the Ranger. <Phione usually make their home in saltwater. This is a freshwater lake.>

True, but may as well find out if he was looking for anything that tends to live in this habitat before moving on, Makina remarked.

After Clyde had given his answer, a small whimper could be heard nearby, coming by a small clump of bushes by the lake. As Makina walked over to investigate, a small Pokemon was caught in the plants, unable to untangle itself due to a lack of arms.

“Looks like that Tympole could use a hand. Interested in helping it out?”

“Toxicroak, go for your Protect move!” Garth commanded at his frog Pokemon. “Toxicroak, after Protect charge it go for a Poison Jab move!” That was a decent move. It had a pretty good chance of poisoning the opponent if the attack landed. Even if it didn't, it was still a pretty strong attack. Since Toxicroak was also a Poison type, it would do even more damage, and him being a fighter also added to that.

The attack that Krabby launched at Toxicroak was a weak, but super effective move. It wouldn't do much damage, but it still would do unnecessary damage. Toxicroak immediately threw up a barrier of some sort of energy. That energy barrier almost always protected the user from any attacks. Very rarely did Protect not work as it should, unless it was used repeatedly. The attack hit the barrier and slid right off. Toxicroak quickly dropped the barrier and struck Krabby on its small head, causing it to be more confused than it already was if that was possible. I could see small purple bubbles rise and pop from Krabby's body. That was an unfortunate sign for the little guy, it meant that he was now poisoned.

Krabby let out some sort of growling sound, if it could even be called that and charged in Toxicroaks direction. The crap had its left pincer raised up as it darted at crazy fast speed at Toxicroak, slamming his claw down hard on the frog. That move was known as Crabhammer. Krabby was an interesting Pokemon, at least I thought so. These Pokemon were so small, but their evolved form Kingler, only slightly bigger, had incredibly powerful pincers that could easily shatter a rock. For some reason though, Krabbys was not that strong. Their pincers broke easily, which was a surprise to me. This battle was almost over for the small Water type.

“Alright then, let's head out,” Makina replied. “You mentioned earlier that you were looking for Phione. Were you looking for anything else here? The Lakes is a pretty big place, after all.”

"Yeah, they are pretty big." Clyde said, agreeing with her. "I'm not really here for anything else. However, like the Basculin, if anything else interesting comes my way, I will probably capture it." Before she could respond though, we heard a small whimper coming from the lakes. It was a Tympole that was caught in small bushes.

“Looks like that Tympole could use a hand. Interested in helping it out?”

"Sure, just help it out though, not so interested in battling or capturing it." Clyde responded as he helped the small Water type out and freed it.

“Sure, just help it out though, not so interested in battling or capturing it,” Clyde replied, kneeling down beside the trapped Pokemon. A few moments later, he managed to loosen the tendrils surrounding the creature, and the wild Pokemon floated free.

Tympole hesitated and looked over at Clyde, unsure what to do next. Finally, after a short pause, he spat out a small acorn-shaped object, the item landing with by the Trainer's feet. Giving a small nod of thanks, the Water-type swam away.

“That looks like a White Apricorn,” Makina said, looking down at the object. “Collect more of those, and one of the shopkeepers at the Shop can make you a custom Ball to use at the Park.”

A snicker from behind Clyde caused everyone to turn around, and yet another frog-like creature skulked into view, though this one was bipedal. It was looking over at Shadowpanther, clearly looking for a fight.

“Did you want a Toxicroak?” Makina asked Clyde, “If not, we should leave this area quickly.”

“No, not really interested capturing or battling this Pokémon, get it out of my face.” Clyde said. He was annoyed by the Pokémon that was here. Hopefully, he didn’t have to use a doll to avoid having to battle this Pokémon, but he knew it would probably come to that, it usually did. He reached into his bag and pulled out a Pokedoll that he was about to throw at the Pokémon if it chose to bother him. He hated those Pokémon that followed him after he said he didn’t want them, why would they continue trying, all that did was annoy him more and make him want them less.

Toxicroak got the multicolored shield up just in time, barely a second had passed before the mud smacked into his energy shield, which easily shed off the power of the attack. As the Mudshot fell to the ground, Toxicroak let his control go of the shield and it quickly dissipated. Toxicroak shot across the distance between it and Krabby, one of his his clawed hands showing a purple glow, as it cloaked the fist with a poison.

The Krabby turned away to see the effect of its Mudshot, and was greeted with the sight of Toxicroak moving towards. Before the Water Pokemon could utter a cry or make a move to dodge Toxicroak was upon it.

Toxicroak slammed his fist onto the top part of Krabby’s shell. I could hear the thonk sound from here, Toxicroak had put some force behind the attack. I saw the hooked claw of Toxicroak slip past the defenses of Krabby, allowing the poison that was coating it to infect the Krabby. The red claw of Toxicroak reverted to normal when Toxicroak yanked it free and jumped back.

Purple bubbles started to pop up from the Krabby’s orange body, a sure sign that it was poisoned. I felt a little sorry for the guy, being poison was a pretty bad condition to have, slowly sapping health it would eventually take out the Pokemon. I did a quick check of my watch, the Poison would take a fully eight minutes to achieve a knock out, and I didn’t plan for the battle to take that long. No need for the Krabby to suffer and I wanted to move on.

The Krabby was still woozy from the double whammy, but it managed to recover its senses because it charged Toxicroak, a pincer raised high. The Pokemon made a clicking noise and brought the pincer down like a hammer right on the forearm of Toxicroak, who had used it to shield his body. Soon as the attack connected the Krabby scuttled away before Toxicroak could launch a counter attack it.

    “You good, Toxicroak?”

She shook her arm to clear away the pain and nodded, it stung to be sure, but she could take more than just that.

“Alright, let’s use your Super Fang move!”

Super Fang was a move best used for when a Pokemon had full health, as it reduced a Pokemon’s health by fifty percent of its current health. In this case the Krabby would be reduced until it had about a fourth of health before the poison took effect. Once the poison coursed through the system of Krabby I would throw a Pokeball at it.

As Toxicroak readied her claws to attack, as she had no teeth, I reached into my pack and pulled out the standard Parkball, with the letters ‘N’ and ‘P’ emblazoned on the top of it. Soon as the attack of Toxicroak hit I would throw the ball at Krabby.

    *~~~~~~~~~*

“No, not really interested capturing or battling this Pokémon, get it out of my face,” Clyde snapped back, glaring at the Toxicroak.

Makina was stunned by Clyde's reaction to the Toxicroak; not because of the reason that it was far from common, but the fact that he stated such a comment within earshot of the creature. Trying to shrug off a wild Pokemon in such a manner could annoy even the lowest Caterpie, but said right in front of a fully evolved Toxicroak...

The Pokemon in question swiveled over to Clyde and swiveled his head in response to Clyde, as if trying to read the Trainer. It tossed its left arm back, as if to ready a punch on Shadowpanther, but instead threw something with a dark hue at the Houndoom before it hopped off, snickering the whole time.

“Thankfully that Toxicroak was more a prankster than an actual danger,” Makina muttered, then went over to look at the object. “Black Apricorn this time. Try to hold on to this.” She tossed the Apricorn over to Clyde for him to store in his inventory.

Their journey over to the closest saltwater lake was largely uneventful, with no new Pokemon running over to greet them this time. In fact, the place was relatively deserted. As Makina looked about for the reason why, she noticed the large silhouette of a figure rising from the water, the color impossible to tell for the moment but the shape alone made the Pokemon easy to identify.

“We're about to be greeted by a Jellicent. Did you want one, or keep searching?”

“We're about to be greeted by a Jellicent. Did you want one, or keep searching?” Makina asked me. Clyde looked over at the large, blue, plump Water/Ghost type Pokemon. The offer was tempting, and he almost wanted to capture it, but that would take too much time and he didn't want to waste time battling it. Clyde already had a Jellicent, so if he spent time trying to capture it, it would probably be something he could use to trade with. Still, that didn't make him want it any more.

"Na, let's try to avoid it." Clyde said to Makina. "I'd rather not have to battle it. I have a Pokedoll ready incase I couldn't escape the grasp of this Pokemon.

    Ranger: Alex
    Trainer: Garth Crysis
    Location: Great Lakes

    Commencing...

“You good, Toxicroak?” Garth asked him. The attack Krabby did was minor, so it would be more than okay. Still, as a Trainer, one always asked how their partners were doing as a common courtesy and to see how their partners were doing in battle. Toxicroak shook her arm, letting her Trainer know that it was going to take a lot more than that to knock her out.

“Alright, let’s use your Super Fang move!” He ordered. That move was quite useful, especially here at the park. The move somehow made the Pokemon lose half of its health. I had never thought of using that move before, it appeared to be really good. Judging by the look on Krabbys face, it didn't even have half health left, so Super Fang wouldn't knock it out, lucky for Garth. However, I saw the little crap cringe in pain as the poison was still taking its effects.

Garth then proceeded to throw a Parkball at the crap. Parkballs were the weakest Pokeballs made, but I felt that it was enough to secure this capture. The ball hit Krabbys left pincer, the Pokemon was too weak to knock it away. A red light shot out and engulfed it. The sphere landed on the water, shaking several times before coming to a stop.

"Well, congrats! You have successfully captured your first Pokemon today. When you are ready to go, let me know." I said, moving back a bit to give him and his Pokemon space to recover if needed.

Krabby didn’t even get another chance to launch another attack at Toxicroak. Toxicroak used his claws to great effecting, hitting the Krabby squarely and doing the right amount of damage. The little Krabby rocked on its legs as the poison continued to course through it.

With the Krabby still ot sure what ws going on I threw the Parkball at it. The Water type was absorbed by the red light and sucked inside the Park Ball. It fell into the water and shook as Krabby tried in vain to escape.

When it settled with a soft ding Alex went over and retrieved it. “Well, congrats! You have successfully captured your first Pokemon today. When are ready to go, let me know.”

“Thanks, let’s get out of here,” I replied. I gave Toxicroak a nod of thanks and recalled her before setting off after my ranger.

“Thanks, let’s get out of here,” He said to me after a few moments of talking to his Pokemon and him catching his breath. I wasn't sure where to take him now. Rare Pokemon usually were in the mountain lakes area, but more interesting Pokemon were at the saltwater lakes. There were others that you had to dive for just to find. I was about to ask him when I saw something running towards us.... over the water.

I pulled out my binoculars to get a better look. As soon it focused, I saw a Keldo running towards us at a pretty fast pace. Legendary Pokemon usually kept themselves hidden, but Keldo was known to come up to people, especially Trainers just to say hi and be friendly. I wasn't sure if that was all it wanted today though. I saw a worried look on its face. Keldo came to a quick stop, accidentally splashing water on us.

"What's up?" I asked the legendary Pokemon. Keldo pointed to an area on the other side of the lake and then took off. "Well, looks like it wants us to follow it. You up for it?" I asked Garth.

Alex seemed unsure of what direction he wanted to proceed, but then he pulled out his binoculars once more as he spotted a Pokemon on the water.

Because I hadn’t brought any along I couldn’t see what Pokemon has caught his attention until it got closer, then I realized it was walking on the water. Usually legendary Pokemon didn’t go near humans, but this one came galloping right up to us, a worried look on its face.

“What’s up?” I Heard Alex ask the Pokemon. Keldo made a sound and pointed at the opposite end of the lake before rushing off. “Well, looks like it wants us to follow it. You up for it?” Alex asked, turning to me.

“Sure thing, let me grab my camera first though. I plan to snap a picture of it at the earliest chance.” Soon as the camera had cleared my bad I looped it around my shoulders and pulled out a Pokeball containing my Ludicolo. He would let me sit on him while he swam across.

    Commencing...

“Sure thing, let me grab my camera first though. I plan to snap a picture of it at the earliest chance.” Garth said to me. It was understandable. Most people who came into the park always snapped photos of these Legendary Pokemon. It got them a little extra cash at the end of the run. Pictures of Legends got you two thousand, pictures of Rare and Special Pokemon got you a thousand five. It was worth it in the end, at least I thought so. A little extra cash could help anyone out.

Garth pulled out a Pokeball and tossed it into the water. Out of the ball came the notorious mexican dancer, Ludicolo. Garth was going to ride on the back or hat of the Ludicolo to the other side of the lake to where the said action was supposed to be going down. Keldo called us over, and with that worried look on its face, I knew it couldn't be good news. I quickly pulled out my Pokeball and tossed it in the water. A long, beautiful snake-like creature with elegant gem like scales emerged from the ball.

"Seaspray, take me across? I asked her. The Milotic quickly nodded. I got into the water and held onto her side. "Alright, let's go Garth." I said to him as we headed to the other side of the lake. When we were at the other side, Keldo was already waiting. It kicked its back legs and made a whining sound and then pointed to our left with its head.

I quickly looked over and saw many baby Pokemon. There was two Tirtouga, one Shellder, three Mudkips, and a Corphish around a Stunfisk. All the baby Pokemon were crying out and scared. Stunfisk was shocking them with its electrical attacks. They were all paralyzed and couldn't move. I wasn't sure why Stunfisk was doing this, but I knew it had to be stopped.

"Well, this is where those daycare baby Pokemon went. Stunfisk must have forced them here. Not sure why though, probably just to be a jerk to them." I said. "Do you want to stop him and take him out, or shall I have Seaspray do it while we move on." Keldo looked pleadingly into Garth's eyes, that was the best chance to take the picture.

OOC: As discussed on AIM, scare and then doll if needed.

Alex pulled out a Pokeball and summoned his Milotic, a powerful and majestic Pokemon known for its beauty. We both urged our Pokemon for speed and quickly reached the other side of the lake in only a few minutes.

What we saw was sort of surprising. A small Stunfisk was terrorizing a bunch of baby Pokemon, using its electrical attacks to stun and hurt them. The Keldo watched on, clearly unhappy with what was happening but unable to do anything about it.

“Well, this is where those daycare baby Pokemon went,” Alex said by way of explanation. “Stunfisk must have forced them here. Not sure why though, probably just to be a jerk to them. Do you want to stop him and take him out, or shall I have Seaspray do it while we move on?”

I snapped a quick picture of the Keldo and turned to the Stunfisk. “That will not be necessary, Ludicolo, get that thing away from the young ones.”
