“Nice job, Snaptrap! Your accuracy is down now though. We’ll have to manage like that for now. You don’t have any moves to bring up your accuracy. Use Smack Down now, that should rough it up a bit,” Leo commanded his Pokemon.

While Smack Down didn’t make sense to use on this Pokemon because it wasn’t flying typed, it was an attack that would do enough damage without hurting the Horsea too much. It would leave Horsea with just enough health to sustain one more attack from the Carracosta.

To there was a number of way for a Pokemon to accomplish the move known as Smack Down so I waited to see what form the turtle would use. Carracosta started by moving his flippers hard, gaining good speed in the water. When it reached the speed it must have wanted it gave one last push and vaulted its large body into the air, a surprising feat for such a heavy Pokemon. The Pokemon oriented on the Horsea and guided its descent to that spot.

The Horsea looked up in alarm at the Carracosta, its small eyes widening in alarm. It gave a frantic honk and fired off a large jet of water at Carracosta. But trying to hit a moving target for the Horsea was too much and it missed completely. Carracosta hit the water and Horsea hard.

Water cascade everywhere from the impact, some even hit myself and Leo. As the last of the water fell to the earth I could see the Carracosta swimming about the Horsea, who was shaking its head, clearly stunned from the blow.

The blow from Smack Down was huge. Water splashed all around us, getting me all wet. I didn’t have anything that water could break. The only thing was my Pokedex, but that was waterproof. Though, being in a cave where there was hardly any sunlight meant it was pretty cold down here, getting wet just made me feel colder. I tried to shrug it off so that I could continue to concentrate on the battle at hand. I couldn’t lose my concentration now, not when Snaptrap was depending on me. If I wanted to increase our bond, I was going to have to not let him down.

Horsea hit Snaptrap hard with a Hydro Pump, sending the large guy skidding in the water a few feet back. It was a pretty strong attack despite it being a small Pokémon. I knew that I could now capture it after this next attack. I wanted to try a combo of sorts. One that would make him a bit faster while doing decent amount of damage.

“Alright buddy, use Aqua Tail. Make yourself faster by starting with Aqua Jet then quickly turning into a powerful Aqua Tail attack. That should do the damage we need to capture this guy.” I told him. I reached into my bag and pulled out a vile labeled Soothing Fragrance Max. I released the contents that were inside of the tube and then pulled out a Hyperball and readied myself to throw it once Snaptrap finished his assult.

The large turtle would blast off in a jet stream of water. Despite his large size, he would move incredibly fast and but at a weak power. That is why I had him switch into Aqua Tail once he got close enough. Right when he did so, I would throw my Hyperball at the wild seahorse Pokémon.

Leo grinned when he saw the results of the exchange between the two Pokemon, Carracosta had easily won that exchange. “Alright, buddy, use Aqua Tail. Make yourself faster by starting with Aqua Jet then quickly turning into a powerful Aqua Tail attack. That should do damage we need to capture this guy.”

Leo reached into his bag and pulled out two items. One I recognized as a Hyperball, but the other was a spray container. It was a soothing fragrance max, something that lulled wild Pokemon to make them easier to catch.

Using the sudden burst from the Aqua Jet, Carracosta swung a thick flipper at the Horsea, because it didn’t have a tail. A coat of water sheathed the flipper giving it a bigger boost. The force of the attack sent the Horsea back in a spray of water. The Horsea was so stunned from the previous blow of the Smack Down that it made no move, allowing Leo to toss his Great Ball with ease.

The large cave was briefly illuminated from the light of the ball as it sucked up the Horsea. The ball wiggled furiously for a good minute before it settled and gave off the capture sound.

I retrieved the ball and returned to the trainer. “Nicely done, you ready to move?”

My timing seemed pretty good based on the results. Horsea was sucked into the Hyperball by a red blinding light. The ball shook for a good minute, quite violently too. I was surprised when I saw that I had captured it. I thought that for sure i was going to have to attack it again. I just liked rushing things so I didn't wait until then.

“Nicely done, you ready to move?” my ranger said as he picked up Horsea's Pokeball.

"I sure am. Where to next sir?" I said, sounding quite content. So far, this expedition was going quite well.

“I sure am. Where to next, sir?” Leo said, a smug look on his face. He must have liked his two captures so far, which was a good thing. I hated to disappoint my clients, made me feel bad.

“Sure, we’re almost to the other end.”

As we headed deeper into the cavern it was getting harder to see so I pulled out a Pokedoll containing my Infernape. Once the fire monkey was out of the Pokedoll she looked at all the water distastefully and gave me a pointed look. Fire types hated water above all else.

I sighed. “I know, but we need some light.” I shook my small flash light. “This isn’t cutting it, just create some flame and you’ll be fine, no battling.”

She sniffed distastefully but did as I asked her. The sudden flame hurt my eyes, but they quickly adjusted, just in time to see a rock in the water nearby moved. Two large fins poked out followed by a blocky head. I had just seen the Pokemon a few minutes before, it was Carracosta.

“Ready to snap a picture?” I asked Leo.

“Sure, we’re almost to the other end.” He said. I was sort of glad. It was a bit cold in here and I wanted to get out and be back in the sunlight to warm up a bit.

“I know, but we need some light.” He said to his Infernape. “This isn’t cutting it, just create some flame and you’ll be fine, no battling.” His Infernape was just like Shadow. They hated being near bodies of water and places where multiple Water type Pokemon laid waiting to strike.

“Ready to snap a picture?” He asked me just as Infernape was getting brighter.

"Oh... right." I said quickly pulling out the camera from my bag. "I am now." With that I quickly snapped a photo of the wild Carracosta. "Okay, let's see if we can find the exit. It is a bit cold in here now."

“Oh, right,” Leo said, pulling out his digital camera and snapping a picture of the large turtle. “Okay, let’s see if we can find the exit. It is a bit cold in here now.”

“I’ll have to agree with you,” I said to Leo, rubbing my arms. I tapped Infernape on the shoulder. “Turn up the heat, we’re freezing and we need to dry our clothing.”

Infernape responded by increasing her flame mane. I immediately felt the heat pour into my body. The cold I felt a moment before dissipated instantly. My wet clothing still sucked, but it was drying rather fast now. I figured it to be fully dry in only ten minutes.

Thankfully we didn’t run across any other Pokemon until we made it to the exit. A small elongated blue Pokemon was sleeping at the entrance. I recognized the slim body as belonging to the Ground and Water type known as Barboach.

I didn’t know if Leo had one so I asked him,” You want this guy?”

“I’ll have to agree with you,” Gaius said as he rubbed his arms. He tapped his partner Pokémon, Infernape on the shoulder. “Turn up the heat, we’re freezing and we need to dry our clothing.”

His Infernape immediately responded by increasing the flames on her mane. That heat that she gave off felt extremely nice in this cold cavern. I could instantly feel the coldness around me disappear. With that heat next to me, I’d be dry pretty soon, so long as any more Pokémon don’t decide to throw water at us.

We finally made it to the exit. I stepped out and stretched my arms, taking in the warmth of the sun. It felt just as nice. I looked over towards my Ranger and was about to ask where we were going next when I saw he was staring down into the small river that was near us. I looked over and saw a small, loach-like Pokémon that looked to be covered in some sort of slimy film. Wasn’t sure exactly what that slime was, but I didn’t think it was poisonous like the one certain frogs have. It’s small blue whiskers twitched at the sight of us. He was a soft gray color with a jagged black line running the length of his entire body.

“You want this guy?”My ranger asked.

“I guess so.” I said in response. “I don’t have one of these Pokémon yet. In fact, I don’t think I’ve seen one before. At least not that I remember.” I said, which was quite odd because I had seen an incredible amounts of Pokémon throughout my time as a Ranger, and just as much as a Trainer. I found it odd that I couldn’t remember anything on this Pokémon. I quickly pulled out my Pokedex and pressed the light green button that sent out the green light.

Barboach – the Whiskers Pokémon. Barboach are small, grey Pokémon that are only between a foot or two long in length and weigh between four and eight pounds. They are a dual typed Pokémon, being both Water and Ground type, this makes them extremely weak to grass type moves. They know the ability Oblivious or Anticipation. Rare, special trained ones even can learn the ability Hydration. Barboach are clever hunters and are known to hide in mud with only their two whiskers exposed, waiting for prey to come by. They also probe muddy riverbeds with these whiskers, hoping to flush out some prey. Because of their habitat and behavior, it's likely that they eat small bugs that live in mud at the bottom of lakes. They also probably eat rotting plant matter and berries that find their way to the bottom. Barboach appears to be an omnivore, and it is not known whether they prey on other fish Pokémon. Barboach's sensitive whiskers serve as a superb radar system, some say they can even detect Erathquakes. Barboach uses their whiskers to taste things similar to the human tongue. Its body is covered with a slimy film. The film acts as a barrier to prevent germs in muddy water from entering the Barboach's body.

“Water and Ground type, huh.” I said to myself. “Alright, you’re up Mindbender.” I said, tossing her Pokeball besides me. She looked down at her opponent then nodded. Her white and green ballroom gown was slightly blowing to the side because of the small breeze that was going by.

“What shall I start this battle off with?” She asked me telepathically. “Shall we stall this battle out or make it quick?”

“Hmm. I was thinking quick would be nice, but also make sure you don’t knock it out.” I said, back to her in our mindlink, with a grin on my face. “I know I don’t have to remind you, but you are a bit strong, maybe a little too strong for this. However, I know you can drawback your power so that you won’t do that.”

“Of course I can.” She immediately said. “I can do that and more, so what shall I start with?”

“How about starting with Magical Leaf.” I said to her. “Should put a nice big dent in him without knocking it out.

“Yes, that should be a good start to this battle, especially if you want it to end faster.” She said.

“Yeah, I want to capture it as fast as possible.” I said to her, “Remember, I still want to find that damn Phione. It is incredibly rare and you know how we like that kind of stuff.”

“No need to remind me.” She said. “Let’s get this battle started then.”

“Right, so use Magical Leaf.” I said to her. “I was going to have you play around with him and use Attract, but that can’t work because he knows the ability Oblivious. Of course there are other ways to mess around, but none as fun.”

“Gotcha.” She said, and with that she began glowing a deep blue color. The leaves and other grass things began levitating off of the ground. She was sharpening them a bit so that they could do a good enough amount of damage. Whenever they were finished and ready to be thrown, she would do so.

This was a bit too easy. Even if Magical Leaf didn’t do much damage, there were still plenty of moves that we could use to do even more damage if needed. Though, I preferred for this to work to make things go faster and more smoothly. I wish I had brought more small Pokeballs instead of my expensive Hyperballs. I only brought them because I was expecting to run into crap and maybe Phione, not all of this stuff that I ran into already.

“I guess so,” he said uncertainly after giving the Pokemon a good once over. “I don’t have one of these Pokemon yet. In fact, I don’t think I’ve seen one before; at least not that I remember.” He pulled out his Pokedex and scanned the small Water and Ground type into it.

“Water and Ground type huh.” He put the Pokedex back into his pocket and pulled out one of his Pokeballs. “Alright, you’re up Mindbender.” He had chosen to call out one of his strongest Pokemon, the Psychic Pokemon known as Gardevoir. The Pokemon’s gown swayed with the slight breeze drifting into the cavern.

The two stared at each other and I could tell they were communicating telepathically, a common enough occurrence among those trainers who knew their Psychic Pokemon intimately.

Apparently done with their exchange the Gardevoir bowed her head and brought her dainty hands together. A rich blue color began to emanate from the Psychic Pokemon as she called upon her powers. Bits of grass of leaves began to trickle in from outside, each piece having the same glow as the Pokemon only lighter.

When enough had trickled in the Psychic Pokemon released the attack at Barboach. The Barboach saw the attack coming and tried to escape by digging into the earth. It didn’t fully escape the the blow, but a good portion of the attack did miss the Pokemon. Once the Pokemon was completely underground the ground started to buckle. A section of earth about two feet wide suddenly uplifted and sped towards the Gardevoir. The Psychic Pokemon didn’t have much room to dodge as was flung off her feet from the attack.

It’s attack done, the Barboach popped back up, this time in the water, a huge grin on its small face. The Pokemon was enjoying the battle immensely.

“How was that?” She asked me, her voice filled with confidence. It was one thing I liked about her, she wasn’t too cocky, and she knew the strengths of her power and when it was necessary to bring it down. It was that that helped her help me in capturing these Pokémon. She did just enough damage for me to capture the Pokémon. She knew every single status condition out there. Hypnosis for sleep, Thunder Wave for paralysis, Will-o-Wisp for burn, Toxic for poison and even the minor ones like Confuse Ray and Swagger for confusion and Attract for the love spell. She had it all. I wasn’t sure if I would have her use them since I didn’t really think it was necessary at this point, but it was nice to have this handy just in case. She was strong in using Psychic type moves, but she also had other types of moves that made her extremely useful. Energy Ball was one of them, but it was way to strong to use here. It would more than likely knock Barboach out. It would have to be something weaker, but that can still pack a punch.

“Okay Mindbender. use Signal Beam. This should not do that much, not that we want it to.” I said to her. “Just needs to do a bit of damage to put it over the breaking point.”

“Understood. It shall be done.” She said, cupping her hands together as she glowed multiple neon colors. It looked as if she were using Psybeam, but the colors were a little different, brighter in fact. The energy around her flowed down into her arms as she formed a ball. From that ball would shot out a beam of that energy that would strike Barboach. It was a Bug type move so it more than likely wouldn’t do more than fifteen percent of damage if even that. I just wanted it to take a little bit of energy off of Barboach so that my next attack would put the Water/Ground type Pokémon right in the area I needed to capture it. Then I could move on to find my fourth and perhaps final Pokémon. I really hoped that it would be Phione, but that was a lot to hope for since they were indeed pretty rare. If I did find one though, my family and I would basically have all the rare Pokémon in our possession, not counting legendary Pokémon, though, each of us has obtained a legendary of our own. I had Genosect, Cameron had Deoxys, Alex had Cobalion, and Rex had Rayquaza. We were slowly obtaining those as well. It would only be a matter of time before we captured them all.

The Pokemon and trainer, in synch, started their next round of attacks without another outspoken word. But even with their Psychic bond it didn’t translate to the speed of a Pokemon, and because the Gardevoir had suffered a speed loss from the Bulldoze attack the Barboach decided to strike first.

The small Pokemon opened its mouth to reveal a small ball of cyan colored energy, the Pokemon was preparing an Icebeam attack. The gave Gardevoir a lopsided grin and fired off the brightly colored beam of energy. Light shining on the beam showed the ice crystals as the began to form from the cool air.

The beam struck Gardevoir on her lower body, but it failed to produce any ice crystals that formed to her body. The Gardevoir shook the folds of the grown and what little clung to her before fell off.

She focused her attention on the Barboach next. She brought her hands together and began to channel the energy needed. A second later a ball of green energy began to form between her hands, I recognized it as the Bug move Signal Beam. Since Signal Beam was a Bug move, something she would be weak too, I knew it would take more effort for her to use it, but the Psychic Pokemon brought it up with seemingly little energy. It spoke of her power.

When it reached the right power she shot a beam from the orb. The Barboach tried to dive beneath the waves to escape the attack, but Gardevoir must have been predicting that because she timed her attack perfectly.

The Barboach recoiled from the blow, but popped up in the water a few feet from its original spot. It looked at the Gardevoir and started to formulate its next plan of attack for the Gardevoir.

Just as we were finishing up our private conversation, Barboach decided to go ahead and attack us. Mindbender however was ready to counter that attack. Her Signal Beam attack barely collided with the Ice Beam attack that Barboach managed to string up. Ice Beam, luckily enough, didn't freeze any part of Mindbender, which just at this moment made me realize that she was missing one of the status alignments. She could not freeze a Pokemon in place. At least not with Ice, she could however freeze them with her Psychic powers. She could hold them in place. It wasn't the same, but it would have to do if I ever needed to use that status. Still would be nice if I could teach her how to freeze her opponents with an Ice type attack, which she had. For now though, I was just going to have to continue attacking. I wasn't going to use any status alignments here, nor was I going to use a Fragrance of any sort here either. This was going better than expected. Now I just had to do one more move and it would be set for me top capture.

"Alright Mindbender," I began to say, once again in our telepathic link. "Let's wrap this up already. What is your weakest move?"

"I don't have on." She said grinning. "Just kidding. I honestly don't know what my weakest move is. Though I can just use Shadow Ball and reduce the power on it, or Psychic."

"Alright, do that. Pick one and use it." I said to her.

"Shadow Ball it is then." She shrugged. She brought her arms about a foot apart from each other and began concentrating. Within seconds, a dark purple and black ball of gooey looking substance began form and quickly grow. The ball of dark energy was the size of a volley ball when it was complete. She immediately launched it at Barboach.

"Guide this ball." I said to her as I pulled out a Hyperball and threw it towards Barboach. The ball soared moments behind the Shadow Ball, however, it was being guided by Mindbender.

The duo of Leo and Gardevoir did another quick mental exchange before settling on a new move. Instead of using a Grass or Bug type attack this time, the two decided on the move Shadow Ball. A decently sized attack that would do just enough damage without risking the Pokemon being knocked out from the damage.

Barboach saw the Gardevoir start to prepare the Shadow Ball and knew it had little counters to such an attack. That said, it didn’t mean the small Pokemon had no options. If one couldn’t stop or dodge an attack it could surely fight back with a move of its own. Sometimes the best defense was a solid offense, and the Barboach was going to try it.

Being in Water it decided the best approach was for a Water typed attack. One that was powerful enough to potentially counter the Shadow Ball of Gardevoir. Lucky for the basic Pokemon it possessed one such move, Surf.

It was in a body of water so actually using the move was a simple matter. It called all the water to its sphere of influence and built it up to a large wave about three feet in height. It wasn’t a particularly tall wave, but for the Barboach it had to be all it could manage. It was putting a lot of energy into the this attack. Because the Surf was stronger than normal both the Pokemon finished at roughly the same time.

Both fired and the attack met between the two only a few seconds later. Both the Surf and Shadow Ball strained against each in a brief moment of time, but in only a second both passed and struck the opposing Pokemon. Both attacks were weaker than when they started because of the collision, but both had still done damage.

But while Gardevoir had time to recover from the attack the Barboach had no such luxury because Gardevoir had take a Hyper Ball from Leo and snuck it up on the Barboach. The Water Pokemon looked at in shock and was absorbed by its red beam a moment later. It settled into dry land and wiggled furiously as the Pokemon tried to escape the confines of the Hyper Ball.

It settled a moment later, the Pokemon was caught. As I retrieved the captured Pokemon I waited for Leo to say he was ready to move.

The Hyperball soared through the air, hitting Barboach on the head. It was thanks to Mindbender's psychic abilities that the ball even made contact with the water mudfish. As much as it struggled to break free, it was unable to do so. I had now successfully captured my third Pokemon. Now I was on to my fourth, which was hopefully Phione.

"I am ready to move on sir." I said to my ranger as he secured the Pokeball containing Barboach. It was only a matter of time before I captured that damn Phione. If it came through, I hoped I had enough time to prepare.

Once Leo said he was ready to go I led us out of the damp and dark cave. For the first time in over half an hour we were finally in some sunlight.

I took a moment to stretch my muscles and work the kinks out of my back. Once I was up to it I pointed to the mountain we were to climb and set off for it, confident something rare would be waiting for us.

The mountain I was heading for was filled with icy caverns. Pokemon often went their to relax and chill out, literally. Ice types loved it, even though most tended to hang out at Oktori.

We were just starting on the path when I saw a small Marill playing in a creek that fed to the bigger lakes. It was splashing around playing. I knew that Leo didn’t want it, but we had to hope it didn’t spot us and come investigate.

I didn’t know what it did so I motioned for Leo to get a Pokedoll ready just in case. It never hurt to be prepared.

We finally exited the cavern and were now in the sun. It felt nice to have that warmth touch my skin. I wish I could go for a swim right now, however, I knew Shadow would not enjoy that so I wouldn't even bring that up.

My ranger stopped for a moment to stretch, then I realized why. We were going to climb that mountain. I was up for it if Phione was up there. I really wanted one and I wanted to be the first to have one.

I was a bit disappointed when a Marill came our way. My ranger motioned for me to hand him a doll, which I did because I had a feeling I wasn't going to be able escape it.

Leo grabbed the toy from his pack just in case the Marill turned to us, but it was too occupied with playing to care about us. I continued along the path as the sounds of splashing receded into the distance.

“Well, we don’t have to worry about that little guy,” I said to Leo. “But let’s keep that Pokedoll out anyway. I want to continue along this stream to the mountain. Water Pokemon will often be seen in it as we head upstream.”

No sooner had I said those words when a small blue and orange Pokemon surfaced from the stream. It had little spikes along its body completed with some sharp looking teeth. I recognized it as the Pokemon Carvanha, a Water Dark type. Most trainers probably would have attempted to battle and catch this Pokemon, but I was pretty sure he had a Sharpedo already.

“I don’t think you want this guy, right?”

The stupid Marill left us alone without bothering us for a battle. I was happy for that because I for sure did not and was not going to battle it. I liked Pokémon like that, they knew when to back the hell off instead of pestering me further after I already said I didn’t want to battle them. It was annoying when they didn’t get it because then I had to waste a doll. Of course the dolls weren’t expensive, only being half of a thousand, but they added up after a while. So far I’ve used like four or so, that is two thousand dollars. Now, that isn’t a lot, but I wasn’t working much at this point so I wasn’t getting much money.

“Well, we don’t have to worry about that little guy,” My ranger said to me. “But let’s keep that Pokedoll out anyway. I want to continue along this stream to the mountain. Water Pokemon will often be seen in it as we head upstream.”

“Alright, sounds like a plan. Hopefully that damn Phione comes soon. That is really the only Pokémon I want to find now. Everything else that comes my way will maybe catch my interest. Might even catch them. Might as well right? Not sure if Phione will even come my way today.” I said in response. “Let’s just keep moving.”

While I was babbling on though, my ranger appeared to be staring down at something. I followed his gaze and saw something interesting. It was a small Carvanha. It had a round body covered in tiny, sharp denticles which were used to create hydrodynamic advantages by reducing turbulence when swimming, as well as providing protection against physical attacks. The top half of Carvanha's roughly spherical body is blue, while the bottom half was red with a yellow star-shaped marking below its mouth. The Pokémon had two yellow dorsal fins above its eyes that resembled shark fins. I actually liked the way this Pokémon looked. It was quite interesting to say the least. I wasn’t totally sure if I would capture it though. It did look interesting enough for me to catch though.

“I don’t think you want this guy, right?” He asked me.

“Hmm, not sure yet.” I said to him as I began to consult with my two, well trusted Pokémon.

“What do you guys think” I asked telepathically to both Shadow and Mindbender.

“I think this is both an interesting and strong Pokémon.” Mindbender said.

“Yeah, and their evolved form Sharpedo can be a bitch to beat.” Shadow added.

“Yes, that is agreed on. Especially with that Speed Boost ability. It can definitely prove to be a hassle that that.” Mindbender said. “If anything, it would be good to trade for in the long run.”

“Yeah, but the hard part about trading later on is that I get attached to you guys.” I said. “It’s hard to let them go.”

“Could you let me go?” Shadow said jokingly.”

“Haha, you know I could never let you go.” I said. “You either Mindbender. I couldn’t care less if I was offered all the money in the world or if I could have any other Pokémon. You two are irreplaceable. I don’t know what I’d do without you two by my side.”

“Yeah, I know that.” He said grinning. “Like I’d ever leave you anyways.”

“So would you catch this Carvanha?” Mindbender asked, bringing us back on track.

“I don’t know.” I said. “Cameron has this Pokémon, so I don’t really need to capture it. However, like you said, I could trade it in the long run, if I don’t get attached to it. Let me get some date on it first. I have never battled Carvanha before.” I said to them both. With that I pulled out my Pokedex and pressed the green button which let out the light green light that always shot out.

Carvanha – the Savage Pokémon. Carvanha are pretty small in size. They range from two feet to three and a half feet in size. They also can weigh anywhere between forty to sixty pounds. Carvanha are dual typed Pokémon, being both Water types and Dark types. They have the ability Rough Skin, but can also learn Speed Boost if trained properly. Carvanha have jaws that are powerful enough to tear through a boat hull. Its aforementioned Rough Skin causes contact that feels like getting scrapped by sandpaper. Carvanha is also an exceptionally fast swimmer. It is also capable of using Special-based moves like Surf, Dark Pulse, Ice Beam, and AncientPower; however, Carvanha doesn't excel at those abilities. This Pokémon is a pack hunter. Swarms of this Pokémon will attack virtually anything in the water with unmatched ferocity. Without the strength of numbers, however, this Pokémon becomes cowardly and shy. This Pokémon lives in warm rivers with other Carvanha and where food is plentiful. Carvanha will eat practically any creature that they can sink their teeth into. If anything invades Carvanha's territory, it will swarm and tear at the intruder with its pointed fangs. An interesting fact about this Pokémon is that although it is a Water type Pokémon, it cannot easily learn any other Water type move besides Aqua Jet.

“Well, “ I said to both Mindbender and Shadow via telepathy. “Sounds like quite the brute. This will be a tough opponent… perhaps. It is by itself though so it may be shy or at least not as confident as it would be with its gang around, sort of like a bully in a way.”

“So who will battle it?” Shadow asked.

“You haven’t battled yet, would you like to?” I asked him.

“Haha, asking me if I want to battle.” He snorted. “Of course I want to battle. Let’s do this.”

“Alright then.” I said observing the battlefield. I knew Shadow could not fight in the water, so he was going to have to battle from where he was, giving Carvanha the advantage, as if it needed it with the advantage it already had by being a Water type. “You won’t have much luck using head on attacking moves or physical moves, so let’s keep our distance and use special type moves. Start us off with Sunny Day, then its combo time, use Solarbeam. Full power isn’t needed here.”

“Be prepared for extreme heat.” I warned my Ranger.

“Sounds like a plan then.” He said to me. He quickly stared down Carvanha. Then, he opened his mouth, barring his razor sharp fangs and created a small white orb. He raised his head and a white beam of light shot out and appeared to be headed in the direction of the sun. If it worked, the area would immediately become incredibly hot and the sunlight from the sun would intensify. This would be the start of my plan, allowing Shadow to use Solarbeam as he pleased.

Normally, Solarbeam took a while to charge up. The user had to gather in sunlight and the process took a bit to do. However, since Sunny Day was used, the sunlight would be incredibly easy to gather, making the attack fire off almost instantaneously. A ball of yellow energy would form in his mouth. The more sunlight in the area, the bigger the ball would form. The bigger the ball, the more powerful the blast would be. There was a lot of sunlight, so I predicted that it would do a lot a damage. This however, was just a guess as the outcome of this was still to come. When he shoots out the beam, it would just look like a long stream of yellow energy, similar in color to the sun. This was just the start of the battle, but if Shadow could get this in, it could also basically be the end. I knew with the sun up that unless Carvanha used Rain Dance to change the weather, the Water attacks that the Savage Pokémon dishes out won’t do as much damage as they normally would, which was a great thing since Shadow was a Fire type. I was glad I at least didn’t have to worry about that. Shadow could battle without having get too damaged by Water attacks. I liked short capture battles, I hoped this was one of them.

Leo stared at the Carvanha for a long minute. I noticed his took on an unfocused look and I realized he was using his Gardevoir’s telepathy to communicate with the rest of his Pokemon. They must have come upon a decision because his focused returned and his hand lowered to a Pokeball.

His Houndoom came out from the Pokeball. “Alright then,” he addressed his Houndoom, “You won’t have much luck using head one attacking moves or physical moves, so let’s keep our distance and use special type moves. Start us off with Sunny Day, then it’s combo time, use Solarbeam. Full power isn’t needed here.” He then turned to me. “Be prepared for extreme heat,” he warned.

The Houndoom threw back its head and was about to use his Sunny Day technique when the Carvanha shot from the water and struck against the snout of Houndoom. It was an Aqua Jet, a Water typed move that worked like Quick Attack or Extreme Speed.

The Houndoom recoiled and yelped from the move. But as the Carvanha flopped back into the water the Houndoom managed to get off the beam that would cause the sun to shine more brightly than usual.

A moment after the beam was gone I felt the sun increase in intensity. Where it was actually around seventy-two degrees, it now felt like it was in the nineties. That showed the power of Houndoom.

The Carvanha shrinked away from the brutal sunlight and dived underneath the waves temporary. When it popped up it was close to the bank. Once again it shot from the water and smacked into the side of Houndoom. This time the Houndoom wasn’t as surprised but I could the attack still stung the fire-dog.

Houndoom responded by opening its jaws wide to reveal a glowing ball of energy. It was the color of the sun and glowing so brightly that I couldn’t stare right at it. Because the Carvanha had used Take Down it was still out of the water and in perfect view of the Houndoom. If the Houndoom could have grinned I was sure it would have done so. Instead it simply settled with firing the Solarbeam, which came out as a bright beam of Grass energy. The form of Carvanha disappeared as the beam struck fully. When the Solarbeam at last died away I saw the Carvanha flopping weak on the ground, With one last movement it managed to enter the water. The Solarbeam and Take Down had taken a lot of health away from the Pokemon. It was on its last dregs of energy.

The problem with me discussing my plans with my Pokémon was that it often took a while. It took time for me to come up with a plan and for me to explain it to my partners. I was going to have to figure out a way to make that go by more quickly. It was because of this that the Carvanha managed to get in an Aqua Jet and a Take Down attack. He caught me off guard, well, the Take Down did anyways. Aqua Jet was notoriously known to be one of the fast strike moves that usually always hits first. It was a good move, but didn’t do too much damage. It did a good amount though because it hit before the sun was intensified, but it didn’t do nearly enough damage to cause me to be worried, I knew Shadow could take that hit. He was one tough Pokémon. In order for Aqua Jet and Take Down to hit, Carvanha had to come out of the water. That was when Shadow struck hard with his Solarbeam attack. It was really nicely played. At least then Carvanha couldn’t evade the attack by going underwater or something.

“Alright, refrain from attacking it anymore, you’ve done all you need to do buddy.” I said to my Pokémon. “That was well done and nicely put out.” I reached into my bag and pulled out a Hyperball. “Looks like this is it.” I said as I enlarged the sphere. I aimed it at the weakened Carvanha and threw the Pokeball. I watched as the Pokeball soared through the air. I felt like calling it a day after I captured this Pokémon. I had not found Phione, but I did manage to get four new Pokémon to add to my team. I was at least satisfied with that, but still disappointed that no Phione came my way… tomorrow perhaps.
