Things were going great. After being on the waiting list for over a year, I’d finally managed to book a villa in Undella Town for a much deserved break. I stood outside on the beach with a large glass of lemonade in my hand. Nope, life didn’t really get much better than this.

“What’s that?” Miles sort of yelled from across the beach.

He owned the big villa next to mine. He was decked out in a full tuxedo. His hair glistened from the massive amount of gel that he used. I thought it was strange, being dressed up and all just to go to the beach. But I didn’t say anything to him about it. You see, we were getting ready for a battle. Nothing was going to stop me from claiming victory.

“Looks like a big storm cloud.”

“What?” I said as I looked up, only to come to the realization that what Miles had described as a big storm cloud wasn’t really a big storm cloud. It was something much worse. “Ah, f-“

“Where are you going?” Miles asked as I ran back to the villa that I had rented.

“I have to go check out the…you know, big storm cloud.” I couldn’t say what it was for sure, but I had a pretty good idea.

“Don’t forget about our battle,” Miles replied with a big smirk on his face. “Unless you’re scared.”

“Don’t count on it,” I responded.

I rushed into my villa. Backpack, check. Browser, check. Emergency supplies, check. After making sure that I had everything I’d need, I woke up Luxray. Luxray was my faithful companion. We traveled everywhere together. Today, however, she’d decided to sleep in while I went out to the beach. I explained what was going on, recalled her to her Pokeball, ran outside, and unclipped another one from my belt. With a cry, a Staraptor emerged.

“Okay, Star. We’ve got to head back to the Park. Mind taking me?”

The giant bird-type Pokémon nodded. I climbed on her back, and we rushed off. I made sure to fly over Miles so that he’d know what he was going up against.

After a couple of hours, we landed at the Front Gate. Just as I thought, something was going on. It was pretty dark considering the time of day it was. A violent tremor broke out for a few seconds, knocking me down. I ran into the Reception Office and up to the receptionist’s desk.

    “What’s going on?” I asked.

“We’re not entirely sure, but we do know that something’s happening on Mt. Deckbi.” She replied. The light created by the computer screen that she was looking at reflected off of her glasses. I could tell she was looking at various graphs and large walls of text. Contrary to popular beliefs, there was more to being a receptionist at the National Park than typing 90 words per minute.

    “If you could go and…”

“I’m already on it,” I interrupted.

“Yes, but you don’t understand,” she continued. “There’s a trainer. His name is, umm, Isaac Booth. He’s already in transit to the island.”

    “What?”

“You’ll have to lead him through Mt. Deckbi’s course, and take care of whatever is causing the disturbance.”

    “What?” I repeated in disbelief.

“I’m sure you can handle it,” she reassured me.

“Right,” I answered back. An extra trainer could be helpful. This could prove to be pretty fun.

I went back outside and climbed back on Staraptor. We flew to Mt. Deckbi, which was in a pretty bad state (even for Mt. Deckbi’s usual rugged, hot, about-to-explode-at-any-moment state). After thanking and recalling Staraptor, I released Luxray, who stretched and glared at me. She hated Pokeballs. I shrugged and sat down on a nearby rock to wait for the trainer who would be joining us.

Now, I admit I've never been to Mt. Deckbi. Hell, I've never been to any sort of volcano at all in my life.

However, Mt. Deckbi seemed in a very bad state today. I can't compare it to anything, with little knowledge about volcanoes in general, but this seemed pretty bad. The sky was a dark gray, and you could see a reddish tinge over the volcano in the distance.

As I walked along the path to where I was supposed to meet up with my Ranger, I zipped up my green hoodie. It was starting to get cold - wind was blowing hard from the direction of the volcano. Dead leaves were flying past me, and the branches on the trees near me were swaying angrily as the violent wind pushed them back and forth.

Of course, this didn't really deter me. I never was one that would complain. Besides, there are things I'm planning on achieving here in Mt. Deckbi.

Up ahead, I saw a man sitting on a rock. Beside him was a Luxray. Judging by the relatively relaxed air of the man and his Pokemon despite the poor weather conditions, I'd say he was a Ranger.

As I approached him, I asked, "Are you the Ranger who is going to be taking me through Mt. Deckbi?"

While waiting for the trainer to arrive, I'd taken to drawing in the soot that had accumulated on the ground, using a stick. Meanwhile, Luxray had curled up and was taking a nap. She wasn't asleep for long when her ears perked up. She immediately jumped to her feet. I looked up to see what had caught her attention. The trainer had arrived. I stood up, dusted myself off, and walked up to meet the approaching trainer.

"Are you the Ranger who is going to be taking me through Mt. Deckbi?" The trainer asked.

"Ah, yes. I'm Dee, and I'll be your ranger today," I replied.

"I'm sure you've noticed the crazy weather today," I continued. "It just started today.

"Something's up there..." I pointed towards Mt. Deckbi's peak. "...and it's causing everything on the island to go haywire. While we're going through the Park, I'm supposed to figure out what's causing all of the commotion up here. So, shall we begin?"

The moment I asked my question, the man's Luxray turned to face me. His Trainer followed suit quickly, and stood up.

"Ah, yes. I'm Dee, and I'll be your Ranger today," Dee replied. I nodded.

"I'm sure you've noticed the crazy weather today. It just started today."

Pointing to the top of the volcano, Dee continued, "Something's up there, and it's causing everything on the island to go haywire. While we're going through the Park, I'm supposed to figure out what's causing all of the commotion up here. So, shall we begin?"

Isaac nodded. The issue with the volcano didn't really worry him - it actually made this experience even more interesting. Besides, he had faith in his Pokemon, and this Ranger seemed to be a very experienced and reliable one as well.

"So, I'm assuming you'll lead the way?"

    Isaac nodded.

"So, I'm assuming you'll lead the way?" He asked.

"Yes," I replied. "So, let's go."

I led the trainer a little further until we came upon a cave. We'd have to go through the cave in order to get to the center of the island, which was where Mt. Deckbi itself was located. There wasn't much difference inside the cave, what with it already being dark outside. Luxray, without needing to be commanded, immediately used Flash. Her body started to glow a sort of light blue, providing much needed light to guide us. Water dripped from the stalactites that lined the cave's ceiling. A drop of water dripped from one of the stalactites and fell on a nearby stone, making a small splashing sound. The stone twitched and moved.

"Geodude!" The stone, by now obvious to us as being a Geodude, cried out. "Geodude! Geodude!"

I pointed out the rock-type Pokemon.

"Do you want to battle the Geodude?" I asked Isaac.

"Yes," Dee replied, "So, let's go."

Dee and his Luxray led the way towards Mt. Deckbi, and I walked alongside them. After a few minutes of walking, we came upon a cave. It must lead to Mt. Deckbi, for Dee motioned for me to follow him into the cave.

It wasn't significantly darker than the dark sky outside, but Dee's Luxray lit up the cave with a Flash anyways. Her body started glowing, and she made it much easier to see. Then, a drop of water dropped from a stalactite and fell on a stone.

Obviously, this wouldn't have been a particularly important event were it not for the fact that this was no ordinary stone. The moment the drop of water touched the stone, it recoiled and revealed itself to us as a Geodude.

Looking straight at us, he exclaimed, "Geodude, Geodude, Geodude!"

Dee turned to me and asked, "Do you want to battle the Geodude?"

I looked at the Rock-type Pokemon. I knew that Geodude were typically strong Pokemon, and I respected their abilities. However, I had no need for one.

"No, I'm good," I responded. However, I knew that Geodude may not want us to leave without a fight. I called out Swampert to be on the safe side.

The blue Water-type Pokemon exploded out of her Pokeball. She stared at the Geodude, sizing it up.

"Let's try and run away from it if we can. If not, however, I can deal with it," I told Dee.

OOC: I considered using Yawn then ditching, or simply using Roar. However, I don't what would happen; can you tell me?

    vs. Geodude BP1

"No, I'm good," Isaac replied. He went on to pull out a Pokeball. A Swampert emerged from the Pokeball. She began to look up and down at the Geodude, as if sizing it up.

"Let's try and run away from it if we can. If not, however, I can deal with it," he told me. I nodded.

I was about to begin moving when Geodude suddenly lunged towards Swampert. I guess it took it as an attack when Isaac called Swampert out from her Pokeball. The attack hit, but didn't seem to faze Swampert at all. So much for running away, I said to myself. Still, I wasn't sure how much of a chance Geodude would stand against Swampert. A low-level Pokemon was never much of a match for a high-level Pokemon.

"Well, at this point, you've got two options," I told Isaac. "You could either give Geodude his battle, or you could buy a Pokedoll."

It was against National Park policy to leave a riled up Pokemon, well, riled up. Even a Pokemon such as Geodude could cause a lot of damage to the Park's balance if it was left in such a frenzy. Besides, with Mt. Deckbi being in the state that it was in right now, the last thing we needed was for a Pokemon to go around thrashing everything.

"So, what do you want to do?"

Geodude also seemed to be waiting to see what Issac's and Swampert's next moves would be.

[[OOC: To be honest, I'm not sure. I asked around, though. Roar doesn't really have any effects in-battle. Some trainers use it as an RP thing. For instance, saying that a Pokemon used Roar to make the wild Pokemon less likely to battle, but the chance of escape is still 50%. Also, this battle shouldn't be long.

OOC: Alright. And I suppose you are correct about the battle not likely to be long...

We tried to run away from the Geodude, but calling out Swampert might not have been smart as the Geodude seemed to take offense to Swampert's appearance. Perhaps he thought I meant to provoke him by bringing in Swampert.

Geodude launched himself at Swampert. However, the Tackle hardly did anything to Swampert - Swampert was simply too strong.

"Well, at this point, you've got two options," Dee said to me, "You could either give Geodude his battle, or you could buy a Pokedoll. So, what do you want to do?"

    "I'll battle," I answered.

"Swampert, use Hammer Arm!" I called to my Pokemon.

After the Tackle, Geodude had bounced away from Swampert due to the impact forcing him to rebound - basic physics. Though the distance between him and Swampert was far enough that he couldn't touch Swampert without moving, Swampert's size and longer wingspan put Geodude within striking distance. I noticed this, and I knew the Hammer Arm would come from a distance where Swampert's fist would be able to hit him head-on unless he evaded the attack. Knowing how slow Geodude are, I figured the Hammer Arm would hit him and hit him hard.

    vs. Geodude BP2

"I'll battle," Isaac answered. He then turned to Swampert and commanded her to use Hammer Arm.

Swampert nodded. Her arms were long: long enough to reach Geodude without moving, at lease. The Pokemon raised her arm into the air, which started to glow white. Then, with all of the strength that she could muster, she slammed down on the Geodude. There was a loud boom that echoed throughout the cave and woke up a flock of Zubat who simply flew past us and out of the cave. The stalactites overhead shook a bit before settling.

Geodude, who had been on the unfortunate recieving side of the attack was sort of driven into the ground as if he was a nail being hit by a hammer. The stone Pokemon wiggled a bit before popping back up from the ground. His eyes blazed with fury as he curled into a ball and started to roll towards Swampert with incredible speed and power.

As Swampert used the Hammer Arm, her arms turned white. Her arm smashed down on Geodude, and I'd say it did a fair amount of damage. A large boom resonated down the cave, and a flock of Zubat flew past us.

Geodude was smashed into the ground. He wiggled himself free of the ground after a bit of struggling, and he angrily eyeballed my Swampert. Curling up into a ball, he started to roll towards Swampert with incredible speed.

I quickly ran some thoughts through my mind. Obviously, Geodude was spinning really fast during the Rollout. With that much momentum, another Hammer Arm would likely be able to finish him off.

"Swampert, use Hammer Arm and try to hit the Geodude while he's using Rollout!" I commanded, before adding, "And swing your arm horizontally so that you'll have a better chance of hitting Geodude!"

The last bit just popped into my mind. I figured if Swampert tried doing a horizontal sweep with her Hammer Arm rather than going straight up and down, it would be much easier to hit Geodude, who was moving too fast to be hit by a normal Hammer Arm anyways. It might even do more damage, since it would theoretically send Geodude backwards opposite his momentum.

Swampert nodded, and nervously awaited the Geodude. She wasn't afraid - it's just that she wasn't used to complicated moves like this. She liked simple battling, and this wasn't really her style.

I myself was unsure how this was going to go. This was unorthodox, and I really wasn't sure what would happen. Still, if Swampert connected, it would probably finish off the Geodude.

As Geodude neared us, Swampert prepared herself to pull off the move I had commanded. Her arms grew white again, and she had a determined look on her face.

    vs. Geodude BP3

As Geodude's attack gained more momentum, Isaac had already thought of a plan.

"Swampert, use Hammer Arm and try to hit the Geodude while he's using Rollout!" He shouted at his Pokemon. "And swing your arm horizontally so that you'll have a better chance of hitting Geodude!"

Interesting, I thought to myself. I'd never seen Hammer Arm being used that way. Even though it was only such a small change, I'd never thought to use the attack that way. But still, it would work if it hit.

Geodude rushed towards Swampert as she raised her fist, which had started to glow white. Then, once Geodude was within her reach, Swampert swept her arm in a horizontal motion, like a golf club hitting a golf ball.

The attack made full contact. The Pokemon spun out of control and crashed into the cave wall besides it. Dust quickly flew into the air when Geodude made contact with the wall. Small bits of rubble that Geodude's impact had made fell to the ground. When the dust and rubble cleared, we could see that Geodude, partially buried, was no longer conscious. Though it seemed a bit harsh and unfortunate for the Geodude, the battle had actually made it stronger, and we'd be allowed to pass without worrying about it attacking us.

"Well, that's that," I said as I walked up and dropped a Sitrus Berry next to Geodude.

Swampert had taken virtually no damage at all, so I figured Isaac wouldn't need to do anything before we continue. Still, just to be on the safe side, I asked anyway.

"Shall we continue, or is there something you'd like to do before we go on?" I asked.

The moment Geodude got within range, Swampert swung her arm and hit Geodude straight-on.

I breathed a sigh of relief. Though the plan had been a good one, Swampert's confidence with any sort of complicated or unusual moves was not very good. Fortunately, she hit the Pokemon this time.

Geodude was knocked into the cavern walls by the Hammer Arm, which stirred up a lot of dust and rubble. When it had cleared, we could see Geodude partially buried into the corner. The Pokemon had fainted.

    "Well, that's that," Dee said.

Dee went up to the Geodude and left a Sitrus Berry by it. My respect for him instantly skyrocketed - this man truly cared for the Pokemon of the Park.

"Shall we continue, or is there something you'd like to do before we go on?" Dee asked me.

I looked at Swampert. She had taken minimal damage from the battle with the Geodude, and there was no need to tend to her wounds as they were essentially non-existant.

"No, let's continue," I said, returning Swampert to her Pokeball.

"No, let's continue," Isaac replied when I asked him if he wanted to take a break. He recalled his Pokemon as he spoke.

I nodded and continued to lead the way through the cave. Like, many caves, there were twists and turns, expected drops, and the cliche situation of going down a path that split into three. Still, we managed. I'd say that it was because of my excellent navigation skills, but in reality, it was because I had a map to lead me through the rocky tunnels.

We just successfully navigated through a "fork in the cave", if you will, when I noticed a Lampent was sort of leading us. It was kind of odd to see a floating lantern leading the way. I wasn't really sure how long it had been there. Luxray's Flash had made me unwary of any other light sources in the tunnels.

"There's a Lampent," I said to Isaac. "Care to battle it?"

Lampent was a Ghost/Fire type combination. I'd never seen such typing before. Already, my mind was flooded with strategies, techniques and tricks that I'd employ if I had such a Pokemon. Still, it was Isaac's Pokemon if he wanted it, and I'd have to come back another time to catch one. I'd have to make sure to do that.

We continued trekking through the caves. There were all sorts of twists and turns, but Dee calmly and confidently led us through the caves with a map handy. As we made our way through the tunnels, I spotted multiple wild Pokemon. Flocks of Zubat flew past us, and I often saw silhouettes of Pokemon quickly hiding from us as they got within range of Luxray's Flash.

We had just passed a fork in the tunnels when I noticed a mysterious, glowing orb in front of us. Around the orb was an odd-looking silhouette. I wasn't sure exactly what it was, but it certainly wasn't normal. Dee, however, realized what it was.

"There's a Lampent," Dee said. Then, he turned to me. "Care to battle it?"

Without I doubt, I answered, "Yes."

As I stepped closer to the orb, I realized that it truly was a Lampent. The Pokemon was similar to a man-made lantern, and two bright yellow eyes were discernible among the blue flame in the orb. Above the orb was a pointed extremity that resembled a hat, while below was a small body with two long wavy arms and a pointed bottom.

I knew how valuable a Pokemon Chandelure was, and obtaining a Lampent would be very beneficial.

Thinking for a moment, I decided to send out my Swampert again. I threw her Pokeball, and she exploded into view. Looking at the Lampent, Swampert prepared herself for battle.

"Let's start things off. Swampert, use Mud Shot!"

Swampert opened her jaw, and shot a stream of mud towards Lampent.

    OOC: Lampent is female.

    vs. Lampent BP1

Immediately, Isaac answered that he wanted to battle and possibly capture the Lampent. I didn't blame him. If I could, I'd snag the Pokemon as my own. He quickly released Swampert from her Pokeball once again. The Pokemon emerged with a roar. Swampert was a great choice since she would resistant against most of Lampent's naturally learned attacks.

"Let's start things off. Swampert, use Mud Shot!" Isaac commanded his faithful Pokemon.

Swampert opened her mouth wide. A powerful stream of mud blasted towards Lampent. The mud shot hit the floating Pokemon from the side, which caused her to spin a little through the air.

Once Lampent had regained her balance, the Pokemon started to fade out of view. When she had come back into view, I could see that there were now five Lampent facing us. At least, it looked like there were five Lampent facing us. Judging by the way each Lampent had a certain transparency to it, I would have guessed that she had used Double Team to create the illusion that there were five. One of those copies was the real Lampent.

I wondered how Isaac would react.

[[OOC: Thanks. You can also pick a Nature. And, this is a bit early, but would you be willing to fight a doubles battle if you had to?]]

OOC: Nature is Modest, then. Also, I'm down with double battles.

Swampert's Mud Shot hit Lampent, knocking the Ghost off balance. Staring at Swampert with anger, she faded away. For a moment, I thought she had teleported away or something. However, moments later, she reappeared.

The confusing thing was, four more Lampents reappeared along with her.

My immediate reaction was panic. I could not deal with five Lampents, not even if I added Dragonite to the brawl.

However, upon closer observation, I noticed that some of the Lampent were flickering oddly. The original Lampent must have been using Double Team!

I needed to remove the clones. Though I could tell which one was the real one by looking for the one that was not flickering, I'm sure it would get annoying as the battle progressed.

How do I remove the clones, however? I looked at Swampert, who was cautiously eyeing the five Lampents.

"Swampert, those are Double Team clones," I explained, still thinking about what to do about them. I recited Swampert's learnset in my mind. Then, I remembered a move. This move was typically a useless move, and I had forgotten about it. However, it would be useful right now...

"Swampert, use Foresight!" I commanded. Swampert's eyes glimmered for a moment, and I knew she could now identify the real Lampent.

"Now, use Mud Sport to get rid of those clones. Follow it up with a Mud-Slap on the real thing!"

I knew Mud Sport was an attack that had no real damaging effect on Pokemon. However, I figured that by having Swampert throw mud in the air, the mud would be able to despell the fake Lampents. Additionally, the extra mud on the ground would make Mud-Slap, a normally weak move, much stronger.

Swampert opened her jaw once again, and launched balls of mud from her mouth into the air in a grenade launcher-esque fashion. I waited for the clones to fade away.

    vs. Lampent BP2

"Swampert, use Foresight!" Isaac commanded in response to Lampent's use of Double Team.

Swampert's eyes started to gleam while she concentrated on the multiple Lampent floating in front of her. Foresight would remove any evasion that Lampent had gained from using Double Team. It would also make it easier to identify which of the Lampent was the real one.

"Now, use Mud Sport to get rid of those clones. Follow it up with a Mud-Slap on the real thing!"

Swampert gaped her mouth open once again. Round balls of mud flew out of her mouth like a mortar. The balls fell to the ground in arcs. Some of them fell at Swampert's feet, but others fell towards the Lampent copies, dissipating them as they made contact. By the time Swampert's attack was finished, only the real Lampent remained standing. 0Swampert shot a stream of mud at the Lampent once again. This time, the attack made full contact and knocked Lampent to the ground.

Lampent floated back up in a graceful motion. Her eyes had now turned red. The top of her eyes were slanted. It didn't take much to tell that Lampent was angry by how things had been going.

The Pokemon stretched out both of her arms. A large cloud of poisonous black gas formed and started to expand, with her in the center. Within seconds, it had covered the entire area of the cave that we were in.

"Luxray, use Protect!" I commanded my Pokemon, coughing and covering my face with my arm. Luxray nodded and projected a transparent bubble that surrounded Isaac, her, and me and protected us from harm.

Once Lampent had finished using Smog, she started to spin. As she spun, a large tornado of Fire surrounded her. The fire began to spread as a result of Lampent's use of Smog earlier. The poisonous gas started to heat up until it was no longer black, but a sort of orange. In the background, I saw flocked of Zubat, Woobat, and some Geodude fleeing the area. I could only imagine what condition we would be in if Luxray didn't know Protect. I was glad that I'd gone ahead and taught her how to use it.

I was amazed at how well Swampert was taking the attack. Even though Luxray wasn't protecting her, she just stood there. Being a Water/Ground type Pokemon, she had great resistance against both Poison and Fire type attacks; however, prolonged exposure to the Hot, poisonous gas would have devastating effects on her.

OOC: Not that it bothers me a lot (or a little even, I just think it's worth mentioning), but I used Mud-Slap, not Mud Shot. Mud-Slap's probably weaker, but I was hoping that the extra mud on the ground from the Mud Sport would strengthen it a little. For my post, I'm continuing as if I used Mud-Slap.

As the balls of mud started to land on the group of Lampents, the dopplegangers disappeared - just as I had planned. When only the real Lampent remained, Swampert slapped some of the mud on the ground in Lampent's face. She tipped over and crashed to the ground.

I smiled. The thing was down, and perhaps I could catch it now...?

Nope. The Lampent got right back up, her eyes blazing red with anger. The fire inside her started burning with more vigor. She was clearly pissed, and I realized I would have to do a lot more damage to her before I could capture her.

The Lampent stretched her wavy arms out. A black cloud of gas started forming around her, and spread towards us. I identified this as the Smog attack, and I knew it was poisonous.

    "Luxray, use Protect!"

I heard Dee's voice, and moments later, myself, Dee, and his Luxray were surrounded by a transparent bubble. We were safe.

Swampert, however, was in a different situation. The cloud had surrounded her, and I could see her coughing as she was suffocated by the toxic gas. I started to get worried - was she okay?

The Lampent suddenly started spinning. As I shifted my focus to her, a fire started around her - Fire Spin. The fire around her spread to the flammable Smog in the air, tainting the black cloud orange. The fire spread along the Smog quickly, and suddenly we were surrounded in a large cloud of toxic, burning gas. Concerned, I looked at Swampert to see how she was holding up.

Surprisingly, she seemed to be standing her ground. She was a strong Pokemon, and I'm sure it helped that she naturally resisted attacks such as Smog and Fire Spin. However, prolonged exposure to an attack like this would not be helpful as she could end up being burnt and/or poisoned.

But what to do? This was an unusual situation, one that I was not familiar with.

I knew that the burning cloud of gas was a combination of Lampent's Smog and Fire Spin. Then, I remembered both Smog and Fire Spin were Special attacks. My Swampert knew a move that could reflect Special attacks!

"Swampert, force up a Mirror Coat!" I hollered.

Swampert heard me - I could tell because she looked at me in acknowledgement. However, it was tough for her to muster up a Mirror Coat. The Smog/Fire Spin combination was evidently draining her of her energy. I couldn't blame her for struggling in these conditions, but I also knew she had to put up a Mirror Coat to get out of this predicament.

    "Come on, Swampert!" I urged.

Hearing her owner's voice begging her, Swampert dug deep. A glowing, shimmering energy started to surround her body, protecting it. At first, the energy was faint and it flickered, threatening to fade away. However, as Swampert regained her senses, the aura grew more and more pronounced and the attack grew weaker and weaker. Soon enough, the burning Smog started to repel away from Swampert and back towards Lampent.

    vs. Lampent BP3

After Isaac ordered her to use Mirror Coat, Swampert turned around to acknowledge him. The Pokemon had heard her trainer, but she seemed to be struggling to pull off the attack. However, after some urging from her trainer, she successfully used Mirror Coat. Her body started to glow a little orange, almost yellow. All of the flaming gas that Lampent had created was compressed into a small puff of orange smoke and sent hurtling back towards Lampent.

The Pokemon moaned as the flames and gas hit her. Her ghostly voice raised a few pitches. Luckily for her, however, she wasn't poisoned. By now, the room had cleared up again. Luxray immediately released Protect. The bubble that resulted from the move shattered as if it was glass.

"Good job Luxray," I commended to the Electric-type Pokemon that had been my travelling partner since I first became a trainer.

Luxray simply lowered her head and began to nap. Amazingly, however, the glow that she was producing from Flash stayed lit, providing light for Isaac's battle against Lampent.

At this point, however, we didn't really need Flash because Lampent started to spin once again. A tornado of fire formed around the Pokemon. She sped towards Swampert while the flaming tornado continued to burn around her. I was starting to question the Pokemon's sense. A fire type attack would do nothing against Swampert. Fire Spin wasn't even capable of causing burns. What was Lampent thinking? Then again, most of Lampent's level-up attacks were weak against Swampert anyways. This battle was most likely Isaac's to win from the beginning.

[OOC: Wow. Sorry about that. I was reading Mud Slap, but thinking Mud Shot. That was a fail on my part. I did calculate it as Mud Shot though, so you got some extra damage anyway.

Also, this post took me a while to think of. :/ Sorry that it took a while to get up.]

    OOC: No problem.

As the gas started to repel itself away from Swampert's Mirror Coat, it surged towards Lampent. The gas consumed her, and she started wailing in pain. She writhed around inside the burning gas, obviously taking more damage from it than Swampert did. Though she resisted Fire-type moves, she did not resist them as much as Swampert did. She didn't resist the Smog (which Swampert did), either.

As the deadly gas dissipated, Lampent dropped a few feet with a glassy look in her eyes. She was definitely hurting, although it didn't seem as if she was in the gas long enough to be poisoned by it.

The gas was all gone now. Since Lampent was the one who had created it, it seemed she was able to get rid of it. Since we were no longer in danger, Luxray dropped the protective bubble around us.

"Good job, Luxray," said Dee. Luxray nodded, then lowered her head. She had a tired look in her eyes - the Flash and the Protect must have worn her out. As if on cue, Luxray's eyelids drooped, and the Pokemon fell asleep. However, the light glowing from her body from the Flash did not disappear or falter. Luxray must have known we still needed the light for the battle, and kept the Flash going as she slept.

All of a sudden, I saw another flash of light from the corner of my eyes. While I was distracted by Luxray, the Lampent had regained her balance. Once again, she was spinning like a top, and a tornado of fire formed around her, getting larger and larger as Lampent continued to spin. She was using the Fire Spin attack again.

"Lampent!" she yelled, charging at my Swampert with the tornado around her blazing furiously.

Though I knew Lampent was a strong Pokemon, I wasn't particularly worried about this attack. My Swampert heavily resisted Fire Spin, as it was both Water- and Ground-type. Fire Spin couldn't cause burns, either, so I didn't have to fear that.

Of course, that didn't mean I was going to stand there and let my Swampert be hit. Fire Spin was an attack that could add up to a lot of residual damage over time, and while that probably wasn't going to add up to a lot given Swampert's dual resistances, I figured I might as well do something.

"Swampert, use another Mud-Slap!" I commanded.

In this situation, I figured Mud-Slap would be a very nice move to use. The mud Swampert would slap at Lampent would ideally put out the Fire Spin surrounding her, and perhaps even stop her in her tracks as well. And then, of course it would do a bit of damage.

However, I was more interested in simply taking as little damage as possible. Though Fire Spin would not do a lot of damage to Swampert, I wanted to preserve as much Hit Points as possible. In the long run, it would likely prove to be very helpful given that I would likely be doing battle with many other Pokemon. I only brought Swampert and Dragonite to the Park, and I would have to be very defensive, or else I could find myself with two weakened Pokemon - not a situation I was comfortable with. Should I face a dangerous adversary, I could be in a lot of trouble. No, it would be much better to simply battle cautiously and carefully.

I watched as Swampert slapped her hand on the ground, throwing mud at the Lampent.
