    OOC: Sorry for the delay, exam studying. And now Skyrim and Saints Row 3 have come out ;-;

    ~~~~~
    "Alright, Swampert. Let's end the battle now. Use Avalanche!" the Trainer yelled.
    Swampert pushed the Krokorok back a bit and slammed her fists into the ground. A trail of ice forced itself up out of the ground and crashed into the Krokorok, sending it flying. The Ground type glided through the air and crashed into the hard ground, sending a cloud of dust up into the air. The Krokorok got to its feet and shot Swampert a dirty look before turning around and stumbling off towards an overhang, where it disappeared from sight. I thought the Trainer would chase after it, but he didn't seem upset to see it go. Perhaps he was battling to get rid of it - sometimes Trainers didn't like using Poke Dolls.
    I walked up to the young man and held out my hand for him to shake. I always introduced myself to the Trainers - it was the polite thing to do, and if I needed to order them around on the Expedition they tended to listen to me more if there was some mutual respect.
    "Hey there, I'm James Carter and I'll be taking over for the rest of this run," I said as I shaded my eyes from the sun with my other hand. "What do you say we get out of this horrible heat?"
    OOC: MW3 and basketball tryouts for me so I haven't been on anyways lol. As a matter of fact, I have one in an hour, so this post is shortish because I also need to wrap up my Ranger posts. I probably would have done them first, but this one was accessible straight from the URPG board because it was a most recent post, so I just clicked it.
    Swampert's Avalanche dispatched of Krokorok easily. The Ground type was crushed by frozen debris, and glared at Swampert before lumbering away.
    "Great job, Swampert!" I called, returning my faithful Pokemon to her Pokeball. Then, I turned to me new Ranger.
    "Hey there, I'm James Carter and I'll be taking over for the rest of this run." James introduced himself. "What do you say we get out of this horrible heat?"
    I nodded. It seemed Bill had left to be replaced by another Ranger, much like three Rangers prior. It was unfortunate, but not a big problem.
    "Let's go," I responded, wiping my sweaty brow.
    The young man returned his Swampert to its Pokemon, congratulating it on a good job before returning it to its PokeBall. He then turned to me and nodded at my introduction before agreeing with my suggestion. Some Trainers weren't personable, and it looked like Nitro was one of them. That was okay though - it took all kinds to make the world go round, and I didn't take any personal offence.
    We walked onwards, towards one of the smaller mountain rises. My thought was that there was a small overhang that we could take shelter in. It didn't look too far away so we wouldn't have to stay much longer in the sweltering heat.
    We soon ran across another Pokemon. A small red monkey was throwing rocks as far as it could, trying to set a record. It picked up a big one with both hands and spun around, letting go to have it fly out of its hand. However, the stone went the wrong way and landed perhaps half an inch from one of Nitro's feet. A few centimetres to the left and the young man would have had a squished foot. The small Pokemon's eyes went wide and it chittered a nervous apology.
    "Wow, that was a close one," I said. "Do you want to try catching this Pansear?"
    OOC: Damn it Chainy are you insulting me? :<
    We continued our hike, with Jeff leading the way. We were now going towards one of the smaller mountain rises beside the main mountain. It was getting pretty hot and I was beginning to get fatigued, and I hoped that somewhere along the way, we could take a break.
    Suddenly, a stone landed mere centimeters away from my foot. I immediately stopped. The stone had been as big as my fist. If that stone had landed there a moment earlier, I would have a broken foot.
    I turned, looking to see what had been the cause of the flying stone. A Pansear was standing along the path, a sheepish look on its face. It came up to me, clearly apologetic.
    "Wow, that was a close one," Jeff remarked. "Do you want to try catching this Pansear?"
    I shook my head. I bore no ill will against the Pokemon, but it was an easy answer for me. Pansear were both common and weak - not a good combination at all. There was no value in capturing it to me.
    "Nah, I'm not interested," I said. "If Pansear doesn't have a problem with that, though, it's more than welcome to accompany us."
    OOC: @Nitro Hey you're the one that didn't shake my hand :|
    ~~~~~

    "Nah, I'm not interested. If Pansear doesn't have a problem with that, though, it's more than welcome to accompany us," the young man offered.

    The Pansear nodded and its flame-shaped hairstyle quivered at the movement. It blew a little stream of fire into the air and gamboled about, picking up as many stones as it possibly could. I led Nitro forwards and the Pansear quickly caught up. It threw stones in random directions as we walked, still trying to get one as far as possible. It only lagged behind to pick up new stones every now and then, so it kept pace with us and continued its game all at the same time.

    Finally it grew grumpy, apparently unable to beat its previous record. The monkey must have been young because it decided to try throwing the largest rock it could find. It ran over to a gray one roughly its size and slipped its little hands underneath it. To the Pansear's surprise, knobbly arms appeared underneath the rock. The arms pushed it violently in its chest, sending it tripping backwards. The Geodude raised itself off the ground with one hand and shook its fist angrily at the Fire-type with the other.

    "Any wish to catch a Geodude?" I asked Nitro.

    Pansear nodded, clearly disappointed. However, it allowed us to continue without a fight. I smiled, and patted the Pokemon on its head.

    Jeff led the way, and we continued walking forward. Pansear followed us - clearly, it had taken me up on my offer for it to accompany us. As we continued walking along the path, Pansear continued throwing stones. It was seemingly trying to throw farther and farther each time. However, it realized it was becoming more and more difficult to surpass his old record each time. Frustration settled in on the Pokemon's face.

    "Pansear!" it cried in annoyance, and ran over to a bigger rock. It tried picking it up. It must have been really simple, cause there was simply no way the bigger rock was going to fly any further.

    "Geodude!"

    The rock moved in annoyance, and pushed off of Pansear. No, it wasn't a rock - it was a Geodude. The Pokemon had looked like just another rock, but it clearly hadn't been. Pansear dashed back to me in fear, and hid behind my leg. Geodude eyed the Fire-type angrily - clearly, it had been sleeping until Pansear had woken it up.

    "Any wish to catch a Geodude?" Jeff asked me.

    I shook my head. I had already seen a Geodude, and that one hadn't interested me either - there was no reason for things to change now. Besides, I already had a Golem.

    "Nah, let's leave it," I said to Jeff.

    "Nah let's leave it," Nitro replied. I couldn't say I wasn't expecting that answer.

    The Geodude threw a disinterested look at us and curled back up into a ball. The Pansear dusted itself off and hooted a challenge to the Geodude. Fire flared up around the small monkey - apparently it hadn't taken kindly to being pushed by the Rock-type. It waved goodbye to us and ran towards the Geodude, headbutting it and causing a mini-explosion. The Geodude flew backwards and broke open a rock.

    "This is about to get violent. We should get out of here," I muttered to Nitro. "We don't want to get caught up in a battle between these two."

    He nodded and we continued on towards the overhang. It wasn't far now - perhaps a few hundred metres. I was hoping to reach it before we stumbled across another Pokemon, but no such luck. About three minutes after leaving the pair of Wild Pokemon behind we stumbled across a blue reptile-like dragon. It was sharpening its two claws on a gray stone, making a grinding sound spread out across the plains. It turned around, saw us, and screeched a challenge.

    "Looks like that Gabite wants to battle," I said to Nitro.

    Geodude gave us one more disinterested glance before returning to its sleep, curling back up in its ball. I began walking away, but Pansear walked over to Geodude with an annoyed look on its face. It hadn't taken well to Geodude surprising it, even though it had been the one that initiated contact.

    Pansear growled loudly at Geodude, and tackled it. Impressively, it was able to knock Geodude over a bit. Geodude got back up, and eyed Pansear. It was going to be a fight.

    "This is about to get violent. We should get out of here," James said to me under his breath. "We don't want to get caught up in a battle between these two."

    I nodded - it would only be a waste of time. Our party continued walking along the path minus Pansear.

    A few minutes later, we encountered another Pokemon. This time, it was a Gabite. The Pokemon was sharpening its claws against a large stone, and turned to face us. It screeched at us, and bared its sharpened claws threateningly.

    "Looks like that Gabite wants to battle," James said.

    I shook my head yet again. I already had a Garchomp. The Pokemon was certainly strong, but there was no point in having two. Hopefully, there would be no complications and Gabite would allow us to continue without a fight.

    Nitro shook his head. He didn't want the Gabite either. Again, not a huge surprise - people didn't often battle Pokemon of the Garchomp line here in the Park. Whether it was because they were very powerful or they weren't that uncommon, I didn't know. You'd think that psuedo-Legendary Pokemon would be hard to come across, but because of their raw power they were very common in breeding stations all around. Hell, my Meta had been bred by my little brother Jathan.

    I raised my hands to show the Gabite that we had no intentions of harming it, and I flicked my head backwards to show that we were leaving. The Dragon-type's eyes narrowed as Nitro and I slowly shuffled backwards. When we were a safe distance away, the Gabite huffed and turned back to its stone, sharpening its claws again. I exhaled thankfully and we cut a wide berth around the Cave Pokemon.

    Finally, we arrived at the hill, and after trekking around it I saw I was right. There was a reasonable-sized overhang. I slipped down underneath the outcropping of stone and sighed with relief as the sun's rays finally stopped pounding on the back of my head. I pulled out my water bottle and took a few gulps of something that was definitely not water. At least Ivy hadn't managed to catch me yet.

    As Nitro followed me down, I cast my eyes around our rest spot. I was surprised to see that we weren't alone. A small red Pokemon was sleeping on its side, curled up into a ball. It couldn't have been very old, and yet it was all alone.

    "There's a Magby just over there," I whispered to Nitro. "It's alone, but it's asleep and doesn't seem to be lost. What do you want to do?"

    James nodded. He held up his arms calmly to show Gabite we meant no harm, and I followed his lead. Gabite watched us warily as we sidestepped past it. Soon enough, it lost interest in us and returned to sharpening its claws on the boulder.

    James and I continued our hike. I was beginning to get really tired, and I was hoping for a break. My run had gone on for quite a while now, and I fully expected it to end very soon.

    I continued following James. We made our way to a hill, and he began looking around. I wasn't sure what he was looking for, however. Then, I saw an overhang tucked into the corner of a stone outcropping, and relief flooded me as I realized we would indeed be getting a break from this intense hiking underneath such an overwhelming sun. I was about to point it out to James when he motioned for me to follow, and began walking towards the overhang. I figured he had found it around when I had and followed, simply glad to get a quick rest.

    When we made our way to the overhang, James went in first and I followed. We both drank from our water bottles graciously. He was about to take a seat on the bench when he jumped back up in surprise.

    I looked at the bench. To my surprise, a Magby was sleeping there.

    "There's a Magby just over there," James muttered to me, pointing at the small Fire-type Pokemon. "It's alone, but it's asleep and doesn't seem to be lost. What do you want to do?"

    "Let it rest. I'm not interested in trying to capture it," I whispered, careful not to disturb the Pokemon's sleep.

    "Let it rest. I'm not interested in trying to capture it," he said. I wasn't surprised - just like Gible, Magby were bred all over the place. Being a Baby Pokemon, they were easy to raise, and few Pokemon were more staunch and loyal than Magmortar. Funnily enough, Jathan had never raised any Magmortar. He has raised Electivire, though - they were often seen as cousins to Magmortar - and his most powerful one had been purchased by my elder brother to use in his Gym. It had been the first Pokemon he had ever sold.

    I nodded and laid back, trying to get as comfortable as I could on a small pile of rocks. I found that my coat made for an acceptable buffer, so I closed my eyes and felt myself start to drift off. I pressed my fingernail slightly into my leg so I wouldn't fall asleep.

    About five minutes later I heard a scuffling. My eyes cracked open and I saw a small yellow reptile climb in under the shade too. The Sandshrew took a look at the current three occupants before curling up into a ball at the Magby's feet and going to sleep as well. I nudged Nitro with my foot and jerked my head towards the Ground-type, asking the standard question silently. It wasn't that I didn't want to disturb the Pokemon, rather I was too sleepy to talk.

    James nodded, and he quietly took a seat, careful not to disturb the Magby. I followed suit, glad to take a break from all this hiking. I took out a sandwich from my backpack, and ate graciously.

    I quickly finished my sandwich, and was all but ready to leave when I had noticed James seemed to have fallen asleep. I smiled a little - he hadn't even been out here as long as I had! Still, I let him sleep - I was thankful to him as with him, my run had gone along at a much more efficient pace than it had with any of my past few Rangers.

    Suddenly, I noticed James shuffling out of the corner of my eye. I looked at him, and he looked at me. He nodded his head at something in the shade, and I noticed a Sandshrew. It looked at us groggily, then climbed on to the bench and went to sleep just under Magby.

    I could tell James was asking me with his nod if I wanted to battle Sandshrew or not. Instead of asking me vocally, he used body language so as not to wake either of the Pokemon up if it wasn't necessary to do so. I shook my head, uninterested in this Pokemon as well.

    Nitro shook his head - he wasn't interested in the Sandshrew. Big surprise - they were just as common everywhere else as they were here in the Park. I noticed that he had some crumbs hiding the the corners of his mouth. Apparently Nitro had taken the opportunity to chow down on something, most likely a sandwich. My own stomach growled at the prospect. Hopefully we'd be done soon - Nitro only had three Encounters left by my count, anyway.

    I heard some shuffling and the crackling sound of fire in the distance. I raised my head to see a Quilava walking upright towards us, the fire on its head and rear fully ablaze. They only did that when they were expecting battle, so my guess was that the Fire-type wasn't happy with us being here.

    "Are you done resting?" I asked my Trainer. "Because if you are and you don't want to fight that thing, we should probably get out of here."

    "Are you done resting?" James asked. "Because if you are and you don't want to fight that thing, we should probably get out of here."

    I looked to where my Ranger was pointing. I had been hoping for something interesting, but it was just a Quilava. The Pokemon was eyeing me, and the fire on its back was crackling loudly. I could get a Cyndaquil in the Park if I ever actually felt motivated to acquire a Pokemon of the evolutionary line.

    "Nah, let's keep going," I muttered. By my count, I had merely two encounters left. I only had two Pokemon captured right now, so hopefully I would find something I could add to my total. At any rate, I was eager to get out of the Park and begin training with my new additions, whether there would be two or three of them.

    OOC: @Nitro if you don't want this catch it anyway and I'll trade you something for it :3

    "Nah, let's keep going," Nitro said quietly. I nodded and slipped my coat back on, and we quietly left the overhang the same way we had come. Both the Sandshrew and the Magby didn't even notice us go. As we moved away quickly, I heard the Quilava grumble unhappily, but at least it didn't take out its anger on the pair of sleeping Pokemon.

    It wasn't long before the heat started beating down on me again. Thankfully, it wasn't as bad as before - the sun had started descending in the sky. Besides, the time off had cooled me down, and I could take a little heat. It was just excessive amounts that shut me down.

    We wandered across the plain perpendicularly to the mountain. There were sparse shrubs and patches of dried out vegetation scattered all over the place, and small boulders and rock formations broke up the monotony. It was mostly quiet, except for the slight whistling sound of a gentle breeze and the scratching made by the almost-dead plants.

    Suddenly I heard some staccato beats break the silence. I twisted my head around to see what the source was. A cream-yellow pony with a mane of fire appeared from around a rock and neighed curiously at Nitro and me. I smiled with relief.

    "Well, there's something a little rarer for you," I said to Nitro. "Interested in battling it?"

    OOC: The moment I cap Ponyta, end the run. Gimme Ponyta, Lampent, and Diglett. Thanks. Also it's male.

    James nodded, and led me out of the overhang. We left the sleeping Magby and Sandshrew behind, and stepped past the Quilava on our way out. The Pokemon didn't seem happy to see us leave it, but did not cause us any further trouble and allowed us to go on our way.

    I followed James to an open plain. Mount Deckbi was visible in the distance. I doubted we'd even get halfway close to the volcano. The run was almost over.

    "Well, there's something a little rarer for you," James said to me, returning my attention to what was going on now. "Interested in battling it?"

    I looked to see what James was pointing at. There, chewing on a small shrub on the ground, was a Ponyta. The fire horse had sand-coloured skin, and a majestic mane of flames rolled along its back.

    I shrugged, figuring why not. This was my second-to-last encounter, and given my odds thus far, I wouldn't see anything worth capturing. At least Ponyta had some value given its rarity.

    "I'll capture it," I said, tossing a Pokeball. "Let's end this quickly, Swampert!"

    My Swampert took the battlefield again. The blue behemoth eyed her opponent, and a growl emitted from the back of her throat.

    "Alright, Swampert, start the battle with a Waterfall!" I commanded.

    Waterfall was a relatively strong and reliable Water-type move, and it was one of the few Physical Water-type moves out there. Not only would it be good for some nice damage on Ponyta, but the move also had a small chance of flinching the opponent. I wasn't hoping for a flinch, but I certainly wasn't against one either.

    Swampert focused herself. A coat of water slowly manifested itself around Swampert, exuding from her pores. Swampert ran towards Ponyta, the coat of water trailing behind her much like a waterfall. I waited to see what would happen. I fully expected Swampert to land the hit, but if Ponyta tried something, I had a few tricks up my sleeve.

    Somewhat surprisingly, Nitro said that he intended to capture it. He summoned out his Swampert and the pair of them prepared to do battle. It seemed like Nitro was indeed a rare Pokemon catcher - while Ponyta weren't useless, they weren't often used in the professional leagues. Perhaps Nitro intended to capture it to serve another purpose.

    "Alright, Swampert, start the battle with a Waterfall!" he ordered.

    The Water-type hunkered down a little bit, and water began gathering around her. It was almost like the liquid was emanating from inside her. The water hovered around the Pokemon, encasing her completely, and when she began to run to run towards the Ponyta a part of the Waterfall trailed behind her, looking like the tail of a comet.

    The Ponyta brayed, accepting the challenge. It braced its front hooves and sprayed a stream of incandescently white-hot fire at the approaching Swampert. There was a loud hissing and a huge plume of smoke rose up into the air at the two attacks' contact. Swampert wasn't to be deterred, though - she continued to run straight through the Inferno. The large Mud Fish Pokemon headbutted the horse violently, sending it sprawling onto its side and putting an abrupt halt to the fiery attack.

    As the Ponyta managed to get back onto its feet, I noticed that Swampert was shuffling backwards a bit and not using her right hand. "It looks like Swampert was burnt by that fiery attack," I said to my Trainer, "so be careful what moves you command."

    OOC: Shouldn't Swamp be at 60% since it had already taken damage before?

    Swampert ran towards Ponyta with her mane of water trailing behind her. However, Ponyta was clearly willing to stand his ground against this Pokemon - rather than trying to flee, he launched a large burst of flames at Swampert. The Inferno enveloped my Pokemon, and quickly turned into steam upon coming into contact with the coat of water surrounding her.

    "Swampert!" my Pokemon grunted, powering her way through the flames. She tackled Ponyta, and the Fire Horse Pokemon was knocked to the ground. I began to cheer, but Swampert suddenly dropped to a knee. I immediately turned to my Pokemon.

    "Swampert, are you okay?" I asked, immediately panicking. What had happened?

    Swampert turned to face me, nodding weakly. My eyes widened - there was a burn mark on its cheek. It must have sustained a burn when it had ran into the Inferno. Still, I didn't expect the status condition to be too much of a problem. The damage it would do to Swampert should make minimal impact - I fully expected Swampert to be able to hold out regardless of the burn. Even if it couldn't, I had Dragonite in my back pocket able to battle.

    However, the burn greatly reduced the effectiveness of Swampert's Physical moves. This was a shame, as Swampert had a high Attack stat that could be exploited otherwise. Still, it wouldn't be too much of an obstacle either, especially since Ponyta was a Fire-type Pokemon. Swampert had many Special Water-type moves in her arsenal...

    "Swampert, use Hydro Pump!" I commanded. This would be a bit of a risk, as Hydro Pump had lower accuracy than some other moves. However, it could do a lot of damage to Ponyta, and that was what I wanted right now. My interest was to end this as soon as possible.

    Swampert opened her mouth, and took a deep breath in. Then, she opened her mouth and launched a surging wave of water at Ponyta. The water was propelled towards Ponyta forcefully. I watched, hoping the move would land a good hit on Ponyta.

    ~~~~~
    "Swampert, are you okay?" Nitro called out in a worried tone.
    Swampert turned around and nodded, but I could tell that it wasn't doing too well. The Mud Fish Pokemon had been battling hard in the Park, under the heat (which almost all Water Pokemon hated) and now it had been burned while battling. I wasn't sure that the Swampert would be able to weaken the Ponyta without fainting in the process, but then again I hadn't seen much of Nitro's battling skills.
    "Swampert, use Hydro Pump!" Nitro ordered. I nodded at his move choice - burns often weakened Pokemon's physical abilities, so by utilising a long-range attack Nitro was being sure to avoid any potential loss of power.
    Swampert opened her mouth and inhaled before blasting a stream of water towards the Fire-type. The Ponyta neighed and was blasted backwards, but I had the impression that it wasn't just standing around idly, waiting to be hit. When the huge blast of water finally ceased, the Ponyta was running around in a figure of eight, getting steadily faster. I knew what that move was: Agility. Now the fire horse would be able to literally run circles around Swampert.
    Swampert's Hydro Pump slammed into Ponyta. The Pokemon neighed, and was pushed backwards.
    "Great job, Swampert!" I cheered. Swampert nodded, still cringing from the burn.
    Ponyta slowly returned to his feet. Eyeing Swampert resiliently, the Pokemon began running in circles. I wasn't sure what he was doing, but he was picking up speed at an incredible pace. By now, the Pokemon was literally a blur, speeding in a circle. Suddenly, he skidded to a stop and eyed my Swampert with renewed vigor. He had used Agility, I realized - that was where his newfound confidence had come from. That posed a problem, as it meant the Pokemon was that much faster. Swampert would have a much harder time keeping up, and Dragonite as well if she would be forced into battle.
    "Alright Swampert, you're going to have to hold out a bit longer! Use Mud Shot!" I commanded.
    Mud Shot was an ideal move to use here, in my mind. Ponyta did not need much more weakening - weaker moves would suffice. However, should Ponyta's Speed be too much to handle, Mud Shot served as an excellent "just-in-case" kind of move. It slowed down the target, and the drop should help reduce Agility's effect some.
    Swampert formed her mouth into a spout, and launched mud at Ponyta. It gushed towards Ponyta, and I waited to see how this would pan out.
