    ~~~~~
    I was sitting down inside the Outpost at the Great Lakes. The Great Lakes had seen a lot of thoroughfare recently - about two fifths of all Rangers were currently on duty here. I had a Trainer coming through today, and he should be here any minute.
    Lazily, I got up off the couch and stretched. I should probably be waiting for him when he arrived, I thought. I walked out of the Outpost and over to the gate. I spat into a little receptacle disk, and the computer inside it analyzed the DNA of the inner cheek particles inside. It made a dinging sound and a light flashed green, showing that it was indeed my saliva.
    The gate swung open and I waited just outside it. I thought I could see someone walking up the path, but it was early in the morning and the sun was just coming up. I shaded my eyes with my hands and waited.
    I was ready to enter the National Park at long last. I had long been dreaming of the day when I could go in, see all the sights, and catch things that I could only dream about. I straightened my blue hat, pushed my blonde hair underneath my hat, straightened my blue vest, and touched at all the pokeballs at my waist. I decided to bring out Infernape and Garchomp to walk around with me. They came out of the pokeballs in a bright red flash. I checked to make sure I had my honey, park balls, pokedoll, potions, fragrance spray, Pokeplayer with disc. I then sprayed myself with a type repellant, hoping to ward off any ground types.
    By the time I was done with my check lists, the gates to the national park opened, and I strolled on in, ready to catch some wild pokemon.
    My Trainer arrived, walking in with a Garchomp and an Infernape. Infernape was a strange choice to bring in to the Great Lakes, but then again it could carry Solarbeam, and the Trainer might just be really skilled. I could also smell something familiar around him - he had used a Repellant. I didn't know which one, but it was probably a Type Repellant, as Trainers rarely bought individual or Family repellants.
    "Hey there," I called out to him, waving him over. "My name is Chainy and I'll be taking you through the Great Lakes. To start with we can catch a boat out onto the lake, or walk around the shoreline."
    I realised that I hadn't asked his name. I shrugged. If he wanted to give me his name, he would.
    My PDA buzzed, and it was the Trainer's file coming through. There were a few strange things on it, but nothing that seemed like a major problem. I waited to hear what he would choose to do.
    "Hello there, nice to meet you," I greeted. "Name's Master. Honestly, this seems like fun. First time going through the NP. Can't wait. Anyways, there's a couple of poke's I wanna catch real bad. Mainly Staryu, and hopefully a Feebas. Since those live out deeper in the water, let's catch a boat and head on out. Or we could go out there on pokemon. My Chomp's pretty good at surfing, and he's big enough to carry me. Up to you wether we go on boat or mon. As long as we get on out to the lake soon and catch up a storm, I'm fine with it." I was ready to go on out, and I thought Chainy was ready to go do the same. I eagerly waited his response.
    "Hello there, nice to meet you," the Trainer said amicably, "name's Master."
    That's a weird name, I thought. Probably an alias. Wasn't a big problem, but I resolved not to call him by his name. I had had pranks pulled on me before by people putting weird names on their application sheets.
    Master then told me all about how he wanted to try and catch a Staryu and a Feebas. I nodded. They were popular Pokemon to try and catch, but unfortunately they were quite rare. I wasn't at all confident that Master would run into both of them, let alone either. MAster then continued, saying that both of these Pokemon would most likely be out in deep water, and that his Garchomp could Sirf him out there.
    "Up to you whether we go on boat or 'Mon. As long as we get on out to the lake soon and catch up a storm, I'm fine with it," Master finished.
    I grinned. I liked this guy's enthusiasm.
    "Well, we might as well go out using our Pokemon," I said. "No point taking a boat if we don't need it."
    I summoned Smash, my Swampert, out of his Poke Ball. He rumbled a greeting, and I climbed up onto his back. Master climbed up onto his Garchomp's back as well, sitting just underneath his neck. His Infernape then clambered up onto the Garchomp behind him and we all set off onto the lake.
    We were barely fifty metres out when we ran across our first Pokemon. A young Mantyke was swimming lazily in the water, obviously bored. I pointed it out to Master.
    "Want to try catching that?" I asked him. "Remember, you can only bring three Pokemon out of the Park, no matter how many you catch."
    "Hmmm. A Mantyke. Not bad, but I don't got many pokeballs, and a Mantine ain't that good. So, I'll pass. Let's head out to the deeper section, and see if we can find something better. Also, I got this Pokeplayer thing, and a disk for a Staryu. Lemme just turn this thingy on first." I replied. After turning on the Pokeplayer, the high pitched cry of a Staryu assaulted my ears. I turned the volume down, then strapped it to my belt. Then I remembered Infernape was also on Chomp. Since I didn't want him to fall in the lake and drown, I pulled out my Pokeball, shot out the red beam, and watched as Infernape was sucked back into the pokeball. "All right. I'm ready to move on farther in."
    "Hmmm. A Mantyke. Not bad, but I don't got many pokeballs, and a Mantine ain't that good. So, I'll pass," Master said. He also said that he wanted to go further out into the lake, where the deeper water is. We moved on past the Mantyke, and Master turned on his Pokeplayer. I sound the strange shrill cries of a Staryu, but the sonic earplugs in my ears soon recognized the sound and tuned it out. The Pokeplayer would still be working, I could just forget about it.
    As an afterthought, Master returned his Infernape to his Poke Ball. "All right. I'm ready to move on farther in," he said to me. I nodded, and both Smash and Chomp moved further out into the lake.
    After five minutes, I detected an irregular splashing. I looked behind us, and sure enough, the little Mantyke from before was following us. As far as I could tell, it was doing so because it was bored and not some other less serious reason. I pointed it out to Master.
    "The Mantyke is following us," I said. "There are three options here: you can battle it, we can move faster and try to outrun it, or you can buy a Poke Doll off of me and then it will definitely leave us alone. Your choice."
    "Since I don't wanna push chomp too hard, I guess I'll take a doll. 500, right? I got 7,500 on me, so here's your 500 for the doll, and I got 7,000 left. Now let's move on. This Mantyke trying to follow me is creeping me out. And I feel like being kind to the wildlife, and since that thing needs a friend, it can have a doll. Thats the best thing I can do for it. Now let's continue on farther in the lake. I really wanna get something at least better than that." I replied, a tiny bit annoyed that I needed to spend 500 of my hard earned money to keep a manta ray happy.
    Master decided to buy a doll, because he wanted to hurry up and find stronger creatures, and also because the Mantyke needed a friend. He passed me $500 and I passed him a PokeDoll. He tossed the doll into the water and the Mantyke happily grabbed it with its mouth. It began splashing away, trying to find a safe place to play with its new toy.
    "Now let's continue on farther in the lake. I really wanna get something at least better than that," Master said, disdainfully pointing at the receding Pokemon. I chose not to say anything, and we moved on.
    There was usually fog over the center of the lake, but there wasn't any today. That meant there probably weren't too many Ice types around here today - if Master wanted to try for some of them we'd need to move out to the higher-up lakes. I was just about to suggest this when I saw a Seaking swimming around underwater. It looked like it was training itself.
    "Wanna try to catch a Seaking?" I asked Master.
    "Something else thats not that great. Well, these are the risks I took when I entered this place. I really don't want to have to use up another 500, so lets try to swim away faster, OK Chomp, since I don't want to disturb the wildlife by making them chase me again. Looks like up there there is some fog, and thats where Ice Types normally are. Chomp and Fly don't like ice, so I think we should stay as far away as possible from that area. Let's head out there, towards the warmer waters where the sun is shining in its blindingly beautiful glory. That fine with you, Chainy?" I asked the Ranger.
    Master decided to try and run from the Seaking. He didn't like its stats either.
    "Looks like up there there is some fog, and thats where Ice Types normally are. Chomp and Fly don't like ice, so I think we should stay as far away as possible from that area," Master said conversationally, "let's head out there, towards the warmer waters. That fine with you, Chainy?"
    "Certainly," I said, and so we moved to the west, avoiding the northern lakes where the Ice types usually resided. Unfortunately, Master had made the decision a bit too late. Not two minutes after our course change, I saw a large Dewgong swimming up to us. It looked curious, and yet angry at the same time. My guess was that we were intruding on its territory. I called out to Master and indicated with a wave of my arm.
    "If you don't want to fight it, I advise we run before it gets any closer," I said.
    "Oh, crap. An Ice and Water type. My worst enemy. Water for Nape, Ice for Chomp and Fly. Good thing I brought a doll of my own." I said as I pulled out a pokedoll. For once I admired how much like a real clefairy these dolls looked like. They were perfectly crafted, looking like an exact resenblence. I chucked it as far as I could at the Dewgong, just wanting it to go away and to leave my pokes alone. "Let's try swimming a little farther south, away from here." I said to Chainy, not wanting to see another Ice type.
    OOC: Your escape attempt was successful without the Poke Doll, so you can use it another time.
    ~~~~~

    "Oh, crap. An Ice and Water type. My worst enemy. Water for Nape, Ice for Chomp and Fly. Good thing I brought a doll of my own," Master said. HE admired it for a little and then prepared to throw it.

    "Hold on," I called out to him. "Let's just try leaving peacefully. That doll might not be necessary."

    "Okay, let's try swimming a little farther south, away from here," Master replied.

    I nodded, and both Chomp and Smash quickly increased the speed at which they were traveling. The Dewgong watched us carefully until we were far away, and then it returned to the shoreline where its brood was. I sighed with relief. Crisis averted. I hadn't said anything, but Smash wasn't particularly good with Ice or Water attacks either.

    We kept moving farther south, but staying on the water. This part of the lake was much warmer, almost perfect for swimming. I hated the heat, but this was pleasantly warm, especially over the water. It would be noticeably hotter on land.

    Looking out to the side, I noticed a large, bulging wave. I was about to point it out to Master to tell him to avoid it, but then the wave crowned. I frowned. Waves didn't normally do that this far out from the shoreline. I used my visor to zoom in for a closer look, and I realised my mistake. It wasn't a wave, it was a Pokemon. A Wailmer, to be exact.

    "Wanna try catching a Wailmer?" I called out to Master, cupping my hands around my mouth to do so.

    "Hey, something thats pretty good. I think I'll go and catch it. Come on out, Flygon!" I screamed as I tossed the pokeball in the air. In a bright red flash, my flying dragon appeared over the water. Fly flashed me a smile, showing me he was ready for some action, which he hadn't seen in a while. I could see how glad he was that he could fly around, stretch his wings, and get into a battle. You could see the happiness glowing from him. He was itching to battle an opponent and show me his skills once again.

    "Let's start up by weakening it a bit. Let's use a Sonicboom! Try hitting the water and making it flip around a little!"

    I watched as Fly brought his wings back, then immediately brought them forward, sending out a burst of air and power directed at the water, trying to cause some waves to flip the Wailmer around and damage it even more than the attack itself would.

    OOC: What gender do you want the Wailmer to be?

    ~~~~~
    "Hey, something that's pretty good. I think I'll go and catch it," Master said. He pulled out a Poke Ball and released his Flygon. The Flygon circled over the water happily, grinning at his Trainer. I could see that it was happy to have a chance to battle. Furthermore, it wasn't a bad choice. It had neutral weakness to water, so there would be no uphill fighting.
    "Let's start up by weakening it a bit. Let's use a Sonicboom! Try hitting the water and making it flip around a little," Master ordered.
    Fly used his wings to launch sound waves at the water around the Wailmer, trying to disorient it. But unfortunately, the Wailmer was too heavy, and while it bounced around a bit it didn't flip over.
    The Wailmer made a deep crooning sound, almost as if it was accepting the battle challenge. It then opened it large mouth and shot a ring of water right at Fly. I recognized it as a Water Pulse. That was a dangerous move. If Master was unlucky, it would confuse Fly in addition to damaging him.
    "Alright Flygon, not bad. I know you can do better, though." I yelled. Flygon grinned back at me, ready to show off its true power. But, since I didn't want to kill the little whale, I had to keep using weak moves. "Now, that thing is sending a water pulse at you. What are wwe gonna do? Send another sonic boom straight through that water sphere, shredding it to pieces. SONICBOOM, FULL POWER!"
    Flygon immediately responded to my command by bringing his wings back, and immediately flapping them forward as fast as he could, sending a shock wave, much bigger than the last, straight towards the water pulse.
    "That's it, Flygon! Great job! Keep it up, and this thing will be caught in no time flat!" I encouraged Flygon, as it flapped its wings faster to create a shockwave even larger, trying to not only destroy the water pulse, but to accomplish what the last shockwave couldn't by making that wailmer go spinning and flying around, doing some severe damage.
    "Alright Flygon, not bad. I know you can do better, though," Master called, "now, that thing is sending a Water Pulse at you. What are we gonna do? Send another SonicBoom straight through that water sphere, shredding it to pieces. SONICBOOM, FULL POWER!"
    Fly grinned at his Trainer, and he launched another SonicBoom at the incoming Water Pulse, shaking and pushing his wings more viciously than before. The waves of sound smashed into the incoming rings of water. The Water Pulse was shredded to pieces, and only small bedraggled parts of the attack managed to hit Fly. Furthermore, it looked like he had avoided confusion.
    "That's it, Flygon! Great job! Keep it up, and this thing will be caught in no time flat!" Master yelled, and the Flygon launched yet another SonicBoom at the Wailmer, larger than the previous two. The soundwaves moved across the surface of the lake, carving out a trench as they moved. But the Wailmer was ready for it. It submerged itself into the water, diving far out of reach. Now Fly was a serious disadvantage - the Wailmer could resurface anywhere on the lake face, and there was almost no way Master would be able to predict where the attack would come from.
    I watched as the wailmer dived underwater, avoiding my attack. And, what was worse, this thing could pop up anywhere, and I would have no way of knowing. There was only one thing I could do to keep Flygon from getting too hurt and give that wailmer a little hurt along the way.
    "Alright Flygon, that thing's pretty heavy. If you get up high enough, when it jumps out of the water it should come crashing down, not going too far and missing you entirely. So, head up in the sky!" I watc hed as Flygon used its wings and its tail to rise up in the sky. Higher, higher, then higher still. Eventually, Flygon stopped, and both of us were satisfied that he was high enough to avoid the attack.
    "Now Flygon! That last Sonicboom was good, but I know you can do better!" I yelled, trying to make the sound reach him up there. I saw what I thought was a small glimmer of a smile. "Now, I know you can do that better, so I want a bunch of them, max power, sent in all directions. We'll knock them into that Wailmer so hard, it'll be knocked to the top easily."
    Fly was ready. He fired the biggest waves of sound I've ever seen, each one at least twice the size of him, and growing as they moved along, heading straight towards that water. I looked along the water, when I saw a darker section of the water, perfect for diving into. I called out to Flygon. "Fly! Its darker over there! Thats probably where Wailmer is. Aim primarily for that region!" On command, Flygon shifted his aim to the darker area, ready to knock that big fat whale clean out of the water.
    "Alright Flygon, that thing's pretty heavy. If you get up high enough, when it jumps out of the water it should come crashing down, not going too far and missing you entirely. So, head up in the sky," Master called out.
    Fly smiled at his master and began circling high into the air, hovering at least one hundred metres over the surface of the lake. There was no way a Dive attack would be hitting him up there. Master nodded approval and cupped his hands around his mouth so the sound of his orders would carry up to Fly.
    "Now Flygon! That last Sonicboom was good, but I know you can do better! Now, I know you can do that better, so I want a bunch of them, max power, sent in all directions. We'll knock them into that Wailmer so hard, it'll be knocked to the top easily," Master shouted.
    Fly began launching large disks of pure sound-based energy into the water. The sound waves made temporary craters on the surface of the water, making waves that traveled over to Chomp and Smash and rocked high in the air. Master seemed to notice a darker patch of water, so he directed Fly to aim primarily there.
    Master was right. The sound waves flew into the water, and the dark patch moved until it was directly below Fly. I looked up at Fly with my visor - his wings were shaking slightly. He was beginning to get tired from all the SonicBooms and the effort of flying so high in the sky. But he still continued firing the large sound blasts into the water where the struck the Wailmer.
    However, the Wailmer began to launch its counter attack. It followed through on its Dive attack, flying up into the air, leaving the water completely. It flew maybe halfway up to Fly, being hit by increasingly smaller SonicBooms as he did so. When it had reached this apex, it began falling back towards the lake.
    Except it didn't. A huge column of water rose up from the lake to meet the Wailmer mid-fall. It looked like the lake was reaching up to catch the Wailmer. And it didn't end there. The gigantic tower of water continued blasting up, carrying the Wailmer with it. The spout smashed into Fly, knocking him clean out of the air. He spiraled down to the water, where he landed with a splash. The tower of water slowly descended back into the lake, carefully supporting the Wailmer. I noticed through my visor that the Wailmer was panting heavily. Truly this was a powerful specimen.
    I looked at Flygon, and could see how annoyed he was getting that the wailmer had knocked him around. I could also see how tired he was. I realized I had to hit this thing harder than before, because that wailmer was going no where near what health it needed to be at. But, I also knew I couldn't get up in its face, or risk Flygon getting hurt even worse. I finally settled on wearing it down slowly.
    "Flygon, let's chip away at this thing a little faster. Let's brew up a sandstorm!" Flygon grinned even harder, tired of being restriced to such a small damaging move. It flapped its wings back and forth, back and forth, faster and faster, sand going in all directions, until a full blown sandstorm had appeared, blocking out the sight of everything. Except for Flygon's sight. Because of its protection over its eyes, it could see through the sandstorm quite clearly, which was what I was counting on.
    "Alright Flygon, move through the sandstorm and sneak up on the Wailmer! When you get close enough, show off your power and let out a Dragonbreath!" I yelled to Flygon.
    Flygon immediately obeyed, and flew through the sandstorm with ease, after all, its species created sandstorms all the time, and as such had learned to easily navigate them. Fly went through as silent as a rat in a room full of cats. When it approached the Wailmer, it was ready. It opened up its mouth, and fired off a glorious, light blue beam of air at the unsuspecting Wailmer. "That's it Flygon! Keep that up, just like that! Hit it hard enough and paralyze it! Show off your true power on that thing!" I yelled encouragingly to flygon, hoping that it would make him severly weaken the Wailmer, making it easy to catch.
