    Fly managed to get back up into the air off the surface of the lake. He shook himself, sprinkling little droplets everywhere.

    "Flygon, let's chip away at this thing a little faster. Let's brew up a sandstorm," Master called.

    Fly began shaking itself, and little pieces of sand began falling underneath it. Instead of falling into the water, however, the sand was picked up by wind currents and it began swirling around. As the amount of sand increased, however, it turned into a fully-formed sandstorm. It was really quite a magnificent sight - an orb of swirling sand hovering over the surface of a lake. The Wailmer wouldn't be hurt underwater, but he certainly would be damaged every time he came up to attack.

    "Alright Flygon, move through the sandstorm and sneak up on the Wailmer! When you get close enough, show off your power and let out a Dragonbreath," Master called.

    By now I couldn't even see what was going on, and I knew Master couldn't either. It took a great deal of innate strength to battle without being able to see the fight - I felt my respect for Master grow. However, I had other options. I toggled my lens to heat mode. Now, as long as I only looked through my right eye, I could get a rough idea of what was going on. The red blob that was Fly was sneaking up behind the floating red blob that was Wailmer. Suddenly, a stream of white light blasted from the Fly-blob into the Wailmer-blob.

    "That's it Flygon! Keep that up, just like that! Hit it hard enough and paralyze it! Show off your true power on that thing!" Master shouted. I had no idea how he could see what was going on, but apparently he could.

    Fly circled around the Wailmer, still breathing the fire at it. The Wailmer twisted around, trying to find Fly, but it couldn't see it in the vicious sandstorm. A dark blue blob began growing in front of Wailmer's mouth - I knew what was coming.

    "It's charging an Ice attack," I said urgently to Master. "Be careful."

    I watched as a blue ball of light came out of what I assumed was the Wailmer's mouth. It's charging an Ice attack," Chainy said urgently to me. "Be careful."

    "Alright, well, that is one bright Wailmer. Apparently it studied its type weakness chart pretty good," I joked. I cupped my hands aroun my mouth to be heard above the roar of the sandstorm and the whistle of Fly's wings. "FLY! IT'S CHARGING AN ICE ATTACK! YOU GOTTA BE CAREFUL! IF THAT HITS YOU, YOU'RE DONE FOR!" Then a brillant idea came to me. "FLY! FLY AROUND THAT WAILMER IN TIGHT CIRCLES! TIGHTEN THE SANDSTORM AROUND IT, AND CONFUSE IT ON WHERE ITS AIMING!"

    I watched as Flygon went flying around in circles, faster and faster, bringing the sandstorm into a cyclone around the Wailmer, hopefully confusing it even more. "GREAT JOB FLYGON! THAT'LL MAKE IT MISS FOR SURE! BUT TO BE SURE, I THINK WE OUGHTA HIT IT WITH SOME FIRE, DON'T YOU THINK? DRAGONBREATH WHILE SPINNING, FULL POWER!" I shouted.

    I gazed in pure awe as Fly fired off another blue burst of air, several times bigger than the last, straight at the Wailmer. The blue light combined with the circles being made by Flygon's flying made a giant blue bullseye shape, with Wailmer at the center, about to be attacked on all directions by Flygon's dragonbreath.

    "Alright, well, that is one bright Wailmer. Apparently it studied its type weakness chart pretty good," Master joked, before calling out to his Flygon, "FLY! IT'S CHARGING AN ICE ATTACK! YOU GOTTA BE CAREFUL! IF THAT HITS YOU, YOU'RE DONE FOR! FLY AROUND THAT WAILMER IN TIGHT CIRCLES! TIGHTEN THE SANDSTORM AROUND IT, AND CONFUSE IT ON WHERE ITS AIMING!"

    Fly's blob began circling the Wailmer blob, moving faster and faster and jinking erratically so the Wailmer couldn't predict the movement. The swirling sandstorm sphere also compacted a bit, increase the sand density and distracting the Wailmer further. But apparently that wasn't enough for Fly's Trainer.

    "GREAT JOB FLYGON! THAT'LL MAKE IT MISS FOR SURE! BUT TO BE SURE, I THINK WE OUGHTA HIT IT WITH SOME FIRE, DON'T YOU THINK? DRAGONBREATH WHILE SPINNING, FULL POWER!" Master yelled.

    I saw Flygon start breathing fire at the Wailmer, still circling and jinking. Finally, the Wailmer couldn't contain the attack any longer. It fired the massive shot of ice like a shotgun. The icicles tore straight through the ice, taking out at least one third of the sandstorm orb. Luckily, Fly was behind the Wailmer when the Blizzard was launched, so he didn't take any damage. The icicles fell over into the lake, where they made up a makeshift floating raft.

    The Wailmer realised its attack had failed. It sunk back below the water, trying to come up with another plan.

    I watched the wailmer sink below the water, hoping to avoid any attacks. Unfortunately for the Wailmer, I had a plan for it this time, and it played right into it.

    "Alright Fly, nice job! Now, let's show this thing that water doesn't scare us any. First, get up right above the Sandstorm orb, and Sonic boom the sand straight into the water, clouding up that whale's vision!" I yelled. Flygon immediately flew through the sandstorm with ease, popping out at the top. He charged up a sonic boom, and sent it straight into the sandstorm, disrupting it and sending sand into the section of the lake below. The sand quickly turned to mud in the water, as I wanted it to.

    "Perfect job, Flygon! Now, Charge up a bigger sonicboom, and send it straight at the ice raft!" Fly's wings started glowing bright white, then a powerful looking blast of air went straight at the ice chunk, shattering it into small, glistening shards, which flew up in the air, then flew straight down, piercng the mud in the water, and heading down.

    "Great job, Fly! That oughta slow that wailmer down! Now for the hard part. I know water isn't your favorite, but you have to dig straight into the water, and head into a head on collision with Wailmer. Use the covers over your eyes to protect them in the mud and water. Now, take a deep breath, and plunge in with DIG!" Fly looked scared, but did as I asked, first taking the deepest breath it could, then plunging straight into the water. "FLY! BE CAREFUL OF THE ICE SHARDS! AVOID THEM, BUT DON'T SLOW DOWN! HIT THAT WAILMER FAST ENOUGH, AND YOU WON'T BE HURT NEARLY AS MUCH!" I screamed to Fly through the water, hoping that he could hear me, and hoping my plan would succeed.

    "Alright Fly, nice job! Now, let's show this thing that water doesn't scare us any. First, get up right above the Sandstorm orb, and SonicBoom the sand straight into the water, clouding up that whale's vision!" Master called out. Flygon zipped out of the orb and spiraled upwards around it until he was on top of the swirling sphere of sand. With a mighty flap of his wings, he pushed the sandstorm into the lake. It was an amazing sight to behold. It was a testament to Fly's power that the sand didn't just float away once it was submerged in the lake. It spread out a bit, catching hold of the Wailmer, and then it began turning into mud. Now there was a mud island floating in the middle of the lake with a Wailmer stuck on the bottom.

    "Perfect job, Flygon! Now, Charge up a bigger SonicBoom, and send it straight at the ice raft!" Master yelled. I didn't know why he was destroying the iceberg, but I assumed he had a plan. Fly sent another SonicBoom flying at the ice raft. The soundwave carved a big chunk out of the iceberg and sent ice slivers everywhere, into the lake and the mud island.

    "Great job, Fly! That oughta slow that wailmer down! Now for the hard part. I know water isn't your favorite, but you have to dig straight into the water, and head into a head on collision with Wailmer. Use the covers over your eyes to protect them in the mud and water. Now, take a deep breath, and plunge in with DIG!" Master screamed, and Fly flew straight down towards the mud island, landing with a wet smack. He began burrowing through the mud. Master started screaming encouragement and advice, but I knew there was no way Fly could hear him. The vibrations made by the struggling Wailmer guided him, and he smashed into the Wailmer hard. Unfortunately, this knocked the Wailmer out of the island, and water replaced it. There was an air bubble keeping the water out, but soon Fly would run out of air. And if he dug out into the water, the Wailmer would be ready to greet him with an attack.

    "ALRIGHT FLY! GREAT JOB! NOW< DIG UPWARDS OUT OF THE ISLAND!" I yelled, hoping flygon would get out before he ran out of air. I watched in anticipation as Flygon, a little winded, pop out of the island.

    "Great job, Fly! Now, that Wailmer is circling around the island, waiting for you so it can attack! As soon as it passes by, whack it out of the way with Dragon Claw, and as its falling back towards the water, supersonic it!" I watched, Waiting for the wailmer to pop up, as Flygon's claws glowed white on one hand, showing that he was charging up a dragon claw to whack that wailmer out of the sky with. Then his wings glowed white too, as he prepared to launch the blue circles of confusion. I could see the power in Flygon's eyes. It was mad about being trapped, and was going to take it out on the wailmer that caused it.

    "ALRIGHT FLY! GREAT JOB! NOW DIG UPWARDS OUT OF THE ISLAND!" Master yelled. I hoped Fly could hear him, and when I heard the scuffling sounds of him digging I knew that he had. He emerged on the top of the mud with a plop, and he shook most of it off before taking off into the air. The Wailmer watched him quietly from underneath the water.

    "Great job, Fly! Now, that Wailmer is circling around the island, waiting for you so it can attack! As soon as it passes by, whack it out of the way with Dragon Claw, and as its falling back towards the water, supersonic it!"

    Fly flew tantalizingly close to the waterline, making himself a prime target for the Wailmer, and the Wailmer couldn't resist. It started swimming up to Fly, fast. But what it couldn't see was Fly's glowing white claw, ready to smash into it, and Fly's glowing white wings, ready to confuse it.

    The Wailmer flew out of the water, smashing into Fly. Fly was ready for this, so he moved backwards with the Wailmer, lessening the damage. Then, he smacked the Wailmer with his glowing claw. He looked like a tennis player returning a ball. A really large ball. As the Wailmer fell down towards the lake, Fly began beating his wings irregularly, causing confusing and irritating sound waves to follow the Wailmer back into the water. The Wailmer re-entered the lake with a large splash. It simply lay under the surface of the water, not moving, huffing and puffing. The Wailmer was getting very tired - the time to attempt a capture was soon.

    "Fly, I think that wailmer is up to something. Fortunately, its getting kinda weak. Let's hit it a little more with a nice Dragonbreath! Warm up the water a bit for it, but don't let it die. I don't want all of the work we put into this to go to waste. So, hold back a little. And be careful. If it jumps at you, don't bat it away, just avoid it." I asked of Flygon, hoping that after this attack Wailmer would be weak enough to catch.

    Flygon understood, and, looking a little disapointed, fired off a small blast of air towards the water, hoping to just hurt the Wailmer a little, not going for a kill.

    Fly grinned, and it began circling the Wailmer, breathing a fiery hot stream of fire into the water. The water started steaming a little, but the sheer size of the lake meant that minimal damage was being dealt to the Wailmer. The Wailmer wriggled around in the water uncomfortably, not used to the heat. It suddenly shot a jet of water up at Fly. The Water Gun struck Fly square on his torso, but his powerful wings kept him in the air. However, he did stop attacking as per his master's orders not to knock the Wailmer out.

    I looked at the Wailmer through my lens. It was tired, injured, paralyzed and confused. This was the perfect time to attempt a capture. Any more and the Wailmer might attempt to flee.

    "Alright Flygon, great job! That's all I needed you to do!" I yelled, excited, as I was finally going to catch the wailmer. "Alright, time to do this. Let's nab this Wailmer!" I pulled out a standard park ball out of my pocket. As weakened as it was, this should do fine to catch it. Save the better balls for later. I pressed the big button on the front, and it sprang to a larger size. I chucked it straight at the Wailmer, and watched as it was engulfed in the red light that appeared. I watched as the pokeball fell to the water, and began shaking. I waited in anticipation for it to either break open or for it to stop shaking. I held my breath, hoping it would stop soon.

    OOC: In future, don't say that the PokeBall hit the Pokemon. That's up to the Ranger to decide.

    ~~~~~
    "Alright Flygon, great job! That's all I needed you to do! Alright, time to do this. Let's nab this Wailmer!" Master yelled excitedly. He pulled a Park Ball out and threw it at the Wailmer, who was now only just under the surface of the water. The ball landed on the water and shot out a jet of red light which hit the Wailmer. The Wailmer turned into red light as well and it was brought into the ball.
    As the ball shook, I was, as always, impressed with the technology behind the balls. In this case, it was the flotation technology. Truly amazing.
    After shaking a few times, the Wailmer finally surrendered and the ball lay still. I guided Smash over to the floating capsule and I picked it up. Ranger regulations stated that the Rangers looked after the captured Pokemon until their Trainers left the Park. As Smash moved back over to Master I gave him a thumbs up.
    "Congratulations!" I called. "You've caught your first Pokemon! Where would you like to go now?"
    "Wooh! Great job, Fly, you got it! Now, come back here!" I said as I shot a red light out of Flygon's pokeball and sucked it back in. "Alright, 1 pokeball down, 5 left. I got some of this honey stuff in a jar, and I wanna use it." I pulled out the honey jar for some emphasis. I really did not feel like buying it just so it could go to waste."Are there any trees I can put it on on the beach? If there are, let's head over there. Hey, maybe we'll find some more cool pokes like the wailmer over there. So, you mind if we head over there?"
    "Wooooo! Great job, Fly, you got it! Now, come back here!" Master called, as he pulled out Fly's Park Ball and returned him. Master then turned to me. "Alright, 1 pokeball down, 5 left. I got some of this honey stuff in a jar, and I wanna use it. Are there any trees I can put it on on the beach?" Master asked me.
    "There aren't many trees in the Great Lakes, but there are a few small mini-woods around, we'll head for one of them," I said. I nudged Smash with my knee and he turned to the left, taking us to the nearest tree grove.
    "Hey, maybe we'll find some more cool pokes like the Wailmer over there," Master said, smiling.
    "It's definitely a possibility," I replied, grinning back.
    We were maybe five minutes out from the tree grove when I spotted a Chinchou swimming lazily through the water near the surface. I pointed it out to Master.
    "Interested in that Chinchou?" I asked him.
    "Aw, dang it. I don't really feel like a Chinchou today, let's keep heading around and find something else really cool. Let's continue on to that mini-woods you were talking about, and see if there are any honey trees for me to use. Maybe I'll find something great. Oh, and before I forget, let me switch off this pokeplayer, I think its running low on battery and I wanna save it for a little later." I said as I turned the dial on the side from "On" to "Off". "Now come on, I'll race you to the mini-woods!" I challenged Chainy.
Oh, and before I forget, let me switch off this pokeplayer, I think its running low on battery and I wanna save it for a little later," Master said, and he switched the Pokeplayer off. I hadn't even noticed it playing, thanks to my earplugs. I shot a quick look at the counter - it was good for one more calling session.
    "Now come on, I'll race you to the mini-woods!" Master called out, and his Garchomp took off like a jet. I smiled. There was no way my Swampert could keep up with a Garchomp.
    I found Master waiting for me near the edge of the lake, at a small grove of trees. He'd been waiting there for about a minute, wisely not going onto land by himself. I nodded appreciation, and we both moved onto the land. I returned Smash to his Poke Ball, thanking him for his work. I was just about to lead Master into the grove when I heard a repeating cha-cha-cha kind of sound and some scuttling. I looked behind us and I saw that a huge Kingler had moved out from the lake up to us, and it didn't look happy. I jumped away from it, and it began waving its larger claw in a threatening kind of way.
    "Want to try catching that Kingler?" I asked Master over my shoulder, staying inbetween him and the Wild Pokemon in case he didn't want it and I had to fight it off.
    "Sweet, a rarer poke. I think I'll try to catch it." I said, eying the Kingler and deciding what mon to try to fight it with. "Hmmm, from what I remember on Kinglers, they have pretty good physical deffense and attack, and bad special ones. Fortunately, I got a nice poke in store for it."
    I pulled a pokeball off my belt, pressed the button, and tossed it into the air. It opened, and in a flash of harsh red light, my bright yellow Jolteon stood before the Kingler, its fur coursing with electricity.
    "Alright, Zappy. Let's start off by paralyzing this thing with Thunder Wave!" I commanded. Zappy made a slight nod of its head in acknowledgement. It then started to glow blue, as sparks started surrounding its body, until it was completely engulfed in blue electrical sparks. It then charged head on at the Kingler, trying to zap it into paralysis with the sparks it was giving off.
    "Sweet, a rarer poke. I think I'll try to catch it. Hmmm, from what I remember on Kinglers, they have pretty good physical deffense and attack, and bad special ones. Fortunately, I got a nice poke in store for it," Master mused out loud. He unclipped a PokeBall from his belt and tossed it into the air. The Ball opened, releasing a wave of red light. When the red light disappeared a Jolteon was standing on the muddy lakeside, its fur standing on end and sparks coursing all around its body.
    Jolteon, despite being a favourite of high-level Trainers, was rarely used in the Great Lakes simply because most of the rare Pokemon were found in the water, where Jolteon usually could not battle. It was nice to see a land battle here for once.
    "Alright, Zappy. Let's start off by paralyzing this thing with Thunder Wave!" Master called, and Zappy nodded. She covered herself with a multitude of blue sparks, and she charged towards the Kingler. I had to work to watch her move - Jolteon were some of the fastest Pokemon in existence.
    The Kingler saw the incoming Jolteon, and so it crouched low to the ground, bringing its pincers in to its body. A silvery sheen coated the Kingler, covering its entire body. Zappy smashed into the Kingler, releasing all the sparks as it did so. The sparks crawled over the Kingler's Protective shield, but they couldn't find a way in. Zappy fell back a bit, so she wasn't within range of the Kingler's impressive physical attacks.
    As the last of the sparks dissipated, the Kingler stood up and the silver coat faded away. Instead of rushing in to attack, like I had expected it to, the Kingler used both of its claws and most of its feet to scatter mud everywhere. Despite being an angry Pokemon, it was obviously clever too. By spraying mud all over the battlefield, Zappy's Electric attacks were severly weakened. And I knew that Jolteon didn't have much in the way of a diverse movepool, so this battle would be a very interesting one to watch.
    "Alright Zappy, with that mud around, your electric attacks aren't going to do much. So lets try and fix that a little. First, back away from that thing pretty far, then break into a Quick attack going head on with it!" I said. Zappy quickly hopped backwards, well behind me, then broke into a dead sprint, aiming dead on for the Kingler. It moved at an incredible speed. As a jolteon, it had incredible speed to begin with, so combined with the speed boost in quick attack, it was less than a blur. I could see leaves flying after the white light it left in its wake, the grass laying down while pointed in its direction. It was like all of nature was showing the path Zappy was taking, waiting for it to hit the Kingler. But, it wasn't going to hit it like that.
    "Zappy, when you get close enough, use Take Down to knock that crab into the water!" I exclaimed. I planned on the kenetic energy Jolt was creating by moving so fast hitting the Kingler, and transforming into inertia, dislodging it from the ground and sending it straight into that water, where it was more vulnerable. Fortunately, Kingler weighted much more than Zappy, so Zappy wouldn't go spiraling into the water with it; Kingler's weight would stop Zappy after all its energy had been transfered. I just needed the attack to hit it right to work.
    Zappy turned its body to the side when it was a few feet from the Kingler, and turned its head towards me, so it would take the bulk of the recoil over its body instead of to the head, where it could seriously hurt itself. It stopped running, and let the speed it had gathered propell it into the Kingler. "Alright Zappy, that looks good! Now, when the Kingler hits the water, send out a little Thundershock to try and electrocute it. The water should conduct the electricity to hurt it more than the attack would do on land, plus it won't be in the mud now! But keep it small, we don't want to try and fry the whole lake!" I yelled, hoping Zappy would hear my comands, and hoping that my plan would go off without any problems whatsoever.
    "Alright Zappy, with that mud around, your electric attacks aren't going to do much. So lets try and fix that a little. First, back away from that thing pretty far, then break into a Quick attack going head on with it!" Master commanded. Zappy move backwards from the Kingler while it continued scattering mud. Once she was almost next to Master and me, she blurred forward, leaving a white line to denote her passage. The gras flattened in anticipation and leaves fell out of her way, deflected by the sheer promise of her passage.
    "Zappy, when you get close enough, use Take Down to knock that crab into the water!" Master called out excitedly.
    Zappy's head started glowing white. The only reason I knew this was because that's what usually happened when a Pokemon used Take Down, and also because the glowing white line that was Zappy had turned into a glowing white arrow. The Kingler looked on at the approaching pain train, and it knew it couldn't avoid this attack. So, it bunched its muscles up and put its largest caw inbetween Zappy and its body.
    Zappy smashed into Kingler, knocking it off balance. Zappy fell to the ground, but the Kingler was knocked backwards. It tripped over its own legs and rolled into the lake with a splash, where it tried to get up. But Master was too fast.
    "Alright Zappy, that looks good! Now, when the Kingler hits the water, send out a little Thundershock to try and electrocute it. The water should conduct the electricity to hurt it more than the attack would do on land, plus it won't be in the mud now! But keep it small, we don't want to try and fry the whole lake!" he called. I nodded in appreciation - if Zappy had launched a full-power Thunder into the lake I would have had to cancel the battle to stop the Thunder from severly hurting all the nearby Wilds.
    Zappy got to her feet and launched a small electric attack towards the Kingler. It moved like a mortar, arcing into the lake just above the Kingler. The electricity spread through the water, hurting the Kingler more than it would normally. At the same time, the attack didn't go out very far because it was low-powered. Master had chosen the perfect attack.
    I expected the Kingler to march out of the water and begin attacking, but it simply sat at the bottom of the lake, unmoving. I didn't know what it was doing, but I had a slight idea. This Kingler seemed to be the kind of Pokemon that enjoyed boosting its stats, so it was probably trying to raise its defenses or something. Well, whatever it was doing, it wasn't attacking. This was Master's chance to try and take the lead in this fight.
    "Hmm. That worked out well Zappy. Now we just gotta hit it harder. But first, we gotta get these other wild pokes away from here, so we can attack a little harder without endangering the whole Lake. Use Roar to scare away the other pokes!" I commanded. I knew the Kingler wouldn't be going anywhere. Sound traveled differently in the water, and since Kingler was at the bottom of the lake, the sound would be extremely muffled.
    Zappy let out a fierce roar. It was so loud and terrifying, it even made my skin crawl. I had little doubt that the other wild pokemon would be scared away from the area. But, I still wanted to make Zappy be careful and hold back a little, in case some pokes still remained in the nearby area.
    "Alright Zappy, that was good. Now, let's try a Discharge! Straight into the water! Show that Kingler how we fight! But hold back on the attack a smidge. We don't want to hurt anything that might have stayed near even after your Roar." I told Zappy, who immediately began charging up electricity, until it was covered in more blue bolts. It then released them all over the place, aiming mostly for the water, trying to zap the Kingler for a good bit of damage.
