Individual RP: Ace Trainer Liam

NBP #1

Aleria Cornish bounced up and down in her computer chair as she read her email. She was a ranger! A real ranger! She'd sent the written test in a while back, but she was forced to wait for the results. When she finally got them, she practically took the test immediately. Al made some mistakes, but she passed! That was all she had cared about. She was to head to the Ranger Outpost as soon as possible so that she could get her supplies and first task.

In her excitement, Aleria raced to leave her small, one bedroom apartment. A shower and clothes were a great necessity before she left in the morning, so she did all of that first. She nearly forgot her Pokemon before she left. It would have been bad if she'd forgotten them. If she had to go on a park run, she'd be defenseless against the wild Pokemon there.

At the Ranger Outpost, she received her PDA. That was all she got, but it was enough to boost Aleria's excitement. Any messages she received would be through that PDA, whether it was to take a new trainer on a run or just messages in general. They also told her she could take some items from the shop, but not too much. Aleria already had her Digital Camera with her; it was a gift from a good friend of her's for her sixteenth birthday. She carried it around with her wherever she went. Al grabbed ten PokeDolls in the shapes of various Pokemon from around the world and a couple Lava Cookies, Energy Powders, and Revival Herbs. They told her she was allowed to come and restock on these items before each run. Aleria nodded, and she was on her way back home.

Beep, beep, beep! Aleria dug her PDA out of her jeans pocket. The screen on the small, red device was flashing; she received an email! Aleria opened it up and skimmed the contents of it. She was to head to the Ranger Outpost near Mt. Deckbi immediately! They would give her something to do. Al pocketed her PDA and ran to the outpost at the mountain, which was to her southwest.

The rangers at the outpost told her that there was a trainer who would be meeting her at the gate. It was his first run as well, so it would be a learning experience for both of them. Aleria nodded and skipped to the Mt. Deckbi gate. Spotting a rock, she took a seat; her trainer wasn't there yet, and there was no sense in standing when she'd be doing a lot of walking anyways.

Liam O'Regan walked casually to the gate where he was suppose to start a run in the National Park. He was lost in thought while gazing up at the clouds, bathing in sunlight; he enjoyed the outdoors and loved the coolness of the breeze at his back. Liam was in no hurry to reach the gate, albeit it was his first time having a go through the notoriously amazing park, he wanted to enjoy the beautiful outdoors before entering the hot, sulfur climate of Mt. Deckbi. He let the moment sink in until he realized the gate was on the horizon and a female ranger awaited his arrival.

Liam started to fiddle with the Pokeball that hung from a string around his neck. He fiddled with things when he was nervous, and this being his first time going through the park he was as nervous as ever. The Pokeball held his best friend and starter Pokemon: Calypso. Calypso always gave him comfort, weather it was out of its' Pokeball, or just in spirit. Liam took in a deep breath and released it with his worries. He walked up to the readied ranger and said,

"Hi, I'm Liam. I think we're supose to go to Mt. Beckdi- err, uh Mt.-uh D-D-Deckbi." He laughed nervously at his unintentional and somewhat dumb stutter. He held out one hand and rubbed the back of his head with the other. "Sorry, I'm new so I'm kind of all over the place. But I'm really excited to go! So thanks for taking me through-... uh... oh." He realized through his nervous, stuttering introduction he hadn't given the ranger a chance to introduce herself and stood with his hand out waited for her name."

Al gave her trainer, Liam, a comforting smile. He wasn't the only one who was new at this. It was her first run as a ranger. She'd been in this place before, but not as a ranger. If there was one thing she didn't miss, it was the heat. Even on this side of the gate, she could feel the heat radiating from inside. Jeans probably weren't the best choice of clothing for this, but in her defense, she was kind of told to come practically right after she received her PDA. At least she was wearing a short sleeve black t-shirt advertising the band named Avenged Sevenfold... yeah, humidity was not going to play into Aleria's favor today.

Oh, shit, there was a trainer here. She had to take this kid through. His stumbling introduction had distracted Aleria, and she got lost in her own thoughts. Whoops. "Yeah, Mt. Deckbi. That's right," she said with a smile, shaking Liam's hand. "I'm Aleria, but you can call me Al. I don't really care too much. I'll be your ranger for this run we're going on today." She nodded and dug the gate keys out of her pocket. They were all on a single key ring, and each key was a different color. She hadn't had a chance to review all of the information in the manual they'd emailed her -- she was reading it while she waited for Liam -- but they'd told her at the Ranger Outpost near Mt. Deckbi that the key she'd be using was red. Red key found, she unlocked the gate and pushed it open. "Right, so let's go in! And don't worry about being new here. This is my first run as a ranger. Just got promoted today."

With another nod, she walked past the gate, and once Liam was past it as well, she locked it back up. If any other rangers wanted to bring trainers through while she was there, they could undo the lock themselves. "Alright, come on." She walked onward, continuing silently until they came to a crossroads, ignoring the fact that she'd tripped over a large rock. To the cave or to the top of the mountain. "Well, we're at a bit of a..." Aleria trailed off as she felt something rather hard tapping her shoulder. "Oh shit!" she exclaimed as she spun around. A Geodude was floating in the air in front of her. The large rock she'd tripped over was a Geodude, a Rock type Pokemon that was basically a rugged rock with a pair equally rugged arms and hands. "Well, uh... I guess you can battle this Geodude I kinda scared. But you don't have to if you don't want to! We can try running from it, or you can buy a Poke Doll from me. They're 500 Poke Dollars... Uh, yeah, I'll shut up now. Let you decide what to do." She let out a little gasp. "Oh, and uh, if we run, pick a route: cave or mountaintop. Gotta have somewhere to run to, y'know?"

Liam was comforted by the fact that Al was new as well. It made him feel less worried and more calm. They started the path onto the mountain and Liam became filled with excitement. We was looking at his surroundings in awe; what a beautiful landscape and even though it was rugged, fiery, and mostly a rocky-brown, Liam appreciated the masterwork it took to forge a place like this.

While walking along Al had stumbled over something, but Liam was too enthralled by the scenery to completely notice.

"Oh shit!" He heard Al shout. He turned to find a floating boulder Pokemon, almost as startled as they were. "Well, uh... I guess you can battle this Geodude I kinda scared. But you don't have to if you don't want to! We can try running from it, or you can buy a Poke Doll from me. They're 500 Poke Dollars... Uh, yeah, I'll shut up now. Let you decide what to do." said Al. Liam softly bit his lip contemplating if he wanted a Geodude or not as Al asked if her wanted to choose a path and leave.

"Nah, I think I'll pass on the Pokemon. Geodude's are cool, and Golems are amazing, but I'm looking more for some different types of Pokemon, pun not intended." He started to step away from the Geodude, backing up while watching it to make sure it didn't attack. Liam didn't want to make any sudden movements and have a misunderstanding with the rock Pokemon and have it initiate in a battle. "Also, I think we should head toward the mountaintop." Liam said as he tried to slip away.

NBP #3

Aleria nodded. They were running. She edged back away from the Geodude with her hands raised up. Hopefully the Geodude would understand this gesture of surrender and leave the pair alone. "I'm sorry," she told the Geodude. "I didn't mean to trip on you and wake you up!" Or whatever it was that rock was doing before Al suddenly woke it up. Whoops.

And then Geodude growled and floated back down to the ground, falling back to sleep in his ball shape. It was still in the middle of the walkway, but it wasn't going to initiate a battle, much to Aleria's delight. It wasn't that she had a problem with battling Pokemon in the park, it was just that she didn't want to force a battle on poor Liam when he didn't want the Geodude. It just wasn't what he was looking for. They continued on, moving upward towards the top of the mountain. There would probably be more caves as they progressed through Mt. Deckbi.

Aleria couldn't help but notice just how hot it was getting on the mountain. It was like the higher they went, the hotter it got. Wasn't it supposed to get cooler? She could have sworn that was how it worked. Clearly Mt. Deckbi was an exception. If she ever came here again, she was wearing a tank top and the shortest pair of shorts she owned. But then she saw an orange and black creature with a fire surrounding his neck like a necklace. The bipedal Emboar was the final staged evolution of the quadrupedal Tepig. Al took a moment to review the information on her PDA about Liam; he only had Superballs and Park Balls. Catching Emboar was out of the option, unfortunately. It was a shame; Aleria would have liked to have the Fire type on her team. She only owned two Fire types, and they were Flame the Houndoom and Chandelier the Chandelure. Oh, right, trainer. Arceus, she was such a bad ranger. She was being such a poor example for her trainer.

Pocketing her PDA, Aleria spoke. "We have here an Emboar. You don't have the right kind of Park Ball to try and catch it, but you can battle it if you want. Otherwise, you can buy a Poke Doll, or we can try running. It's up to you. Unless you have one of those cool Digital Cameras, in which case you can use that, and we'll be able to get away. I don't think you do, but if you do, use it! You get money for snapping pictures of Pokemon!"

Liam froze at the sight of the giant, fire pig Pokemon. What an amazing sight; the visual power, the heat it exerted, it's prowess amongst all others higher than any Superball or Parkball could handle. It's natural beauty, although not the kind of beauty most would think, had Liam fixed momentarily. He snapped from his gaze and looked down at his shorts.

"No, I have no camera, I'm a poor, new trainer haha..." He wanted to escape, but didn't want to offend the Emboar, or enrage it. He thought he could use Jason his Jolteon to paralyze it in hopes of an easy escape, but he didn't want to leave the Emboar paralyzed. Maybe Nike, his Arcanine can intimidate it enough to scare it off, or stall why they escaped? No, he doesn't want to bully his way out of the situation, he'd rather try to use a more peaceful way. Maybe intimidating the Emboar with Calypso, his Starmie; a strong water-type Pokemon could possibly scare the Emboar into retreating. And if he had to battle it, he could always have Calypso use Recover to heal any damage to it... but no. He'd rather not put Calypso through any unnecessary stress and harm if he didn't have to.

The heat was getting to him now, even in shorts and a tee shirt. He tugged on his collar to let some cooler air in as he took a gulp. Liam wiped the sweat from his forehead as he said, "Yea, I don't have a camera to take a picture of this magnificent specimen of a Pokemon," he emphasised the complement to the Emboar loud enough to where it would hear him, "nor the right kind of Parkball to catch it with, so I'll pass, if this kind Pokemon will allow us." He smiled at the Embaor as he tried to pass by, calmly and cautiously.

No to the Emboar too. Aleria could understand why. Poor Liam didn't have any Hyperballs to try and catch it with. "It's okay! You'll know for next time!" she said encouragingly. She didn't want the poor kid to get discouraged despite the fact that the first Pokemon he encountered wasn't one he wanted, and the second one he encountered was one that he couldn't even catch. Liam was just getting some bad luck here. Al would just have to hope his luck improved.

She started backing away from the Emboar again, but it looked pissed that they were even in the Emboar's territory. Aleria frowned; she was mentally praying to Arceus that they'd escape unharmed. The large fire pig roared, and Aleria jumped. "Oh, shit fuck!" she exclaimed. For a nineteen year old girl, she had a bit of a potty mouth. It was kind of bad, but she didn't care too much. It was just how she was. Emboar blocked Liam's path, much to the ranger's dismay. "I don't think that Emboar's going to let us pass," Aleria said apologetically. "You have two options here. We can try passing it again, or you can battle it. Buying a Poke Doll is also an option if you want to fork over 500 Poke Dollars. It'll let you get past 'cause the doll will distract the pig."

Liam was startled by the Emboar's intimidation. It blocked his path with its huge, wrestler-like body and fumed from its nostrils. Liam put his hands in the air as to show he was no threat coming into Emboar's territory. He thought for a moment; maybe this Pokemon is too territorial and won't allow us to pass... maybe showing it intimidation back might make it back down. Liam reached for a Pokeball on the belt buckle of his shorts and pick it up. He pushed the button to enlarge the ball and threw it out, opening it. "Let's go Nike, show this Embaor that we're not to be messed with!"

Out from the Pokeball materialized a massive, canine Pokemon. It gleamed in the sun with it's orange and black tiger striped coat. The Arcanine took in a deep breath, puffed its chest out and snarled, baring its teeth. "Use your Intimidation Nike! And fallow it up with a Roar!" The beastly fire-dog Pokemon snapped its fierce teeth, and tightened its muscles to show off its strength and size. It was a larger than normal Arcanine which helped its intimidation effect in battles. Then the Arcanine held a breath and blasted it out in a roar; echoing and ear-deafening, the powerful snarl was ensued by a crouching attack position and Nike's mouth flaming up, as if ready to battle.

Liam hoped that this intimidation plot would suffice and allow them to escape the Emboar's potential enforcement into battle. He fumbled with the Pokeball around his neck again, praying and hoping to escape. Unable to capture the Pokemon, or its picture, Liam knew escape was the better option than staying and fighting. He put a hand on Nike's back and whispered, "Remember, we're just intimidating it, it'd be best not to engage in a battle, and you're doing great." He then looked over at Al and said, "ppsst, hey, let's try and go now if we can."

Aleria stuck her hands in her pockets, fishing her PDA out again. She brought up the information on the Arcanine Liam had sent out. It knew Morning Sun and Bulldoze in addition to the normal level up moves it got. Not bad, not bad. Al wanted an Arcanine of her own; it seemed like such a good, loyal Pokemon. It was like a dog, and dogs were quite loyal.

Arcanine's ability allowed him to intimidate the larger fire pig, and it did just that. By snapping his teeth at the pig and puffing his cream colored, furry chest out, the Emboar definitely seemed intimidated. Aleria covered her ears just before the Arcanine let out a loud Roar. She was grateful that she did; she could still hear the dog's roar through her covered ears, but it wasn't nearly as loud as it could have been, had Al's ears not been covered. She made a mental note to comment on Liam's Arcanine's Roar later, once this Emboar problem was gone.

Speaking of the Emboar, it was wagging its tail at the Arcanine. "Tail Whip? Really?" Aleria asked aloud. But then its tail went between its legs, and Emboar was running away. She laughed at the sight, watching the large fire pig run with its tail quite literally between its legs. Al had heard the phrase used before, but never had she seen it in action before. It was surely a sight to see. She took her camera out of her satchel and snapped a picture before it was too late. The phrase "run like an Emboar with its tail between its legs" would become a popular phrase on the internet. Al was sure of it.

"Right, well, that Emboar's gone," she said as she pocketed the PDA again. It was probably one of the most useful devices in a ranger's arsenal. Aleria started walking up the mountain again; they had Pokemon to find and hopefully catch! "Come on then!" she called, gesturing for Liam and his Arcanine to follow. "By the way, your Arcanine's got a nice, loud roar. I like it."

"Oh, haha, thanks." Liam replied, still feeling the adrenaline surging through his body from the potential battle. He went over to Nike who was still growling at the fleeing fire pig Pokemon. "Oh come now, it's gone Nike." Liam started scratching the large dog Pokemon on his head and cheek; Nike stood up and licked Liam's face in joy. They had a wonderful bond as Pokemon and master, a friendship that Liam treasured greatly. "Alright, let's catch up with Al, Nike." Liam said as he started to walked up the mountain.

Nike fallowed close behind Liam; every step had weight, yet Nike somehow seemed light-footed. "I hope it's okay if we leave Nike out of his ball, he's a great companion to have around, has sharpened senses, and he loves the outdoors. Plus, I think this is more of his style, ya know?" Nike gave out a couple ruffs as if agreeing with Liam. He came up behind Liam and nudged his arm so Liam would pet his head. "Haha, he also likes attention, if you hadn't noticed."

"It's fine," Aleria replied in response to keeping Nike the Arcanine out of his Poke Ball. She was glad to know other people nicknamed their Pokemon. A lot of her friends didn't nickname their Pokemon, much to her disappointment. The fact that Liam did made him a bit cooler in her book. Not that he wasn't already cool, of course. "I don't mind at all." Having a Pokemon out would be nice anyways. It might make the other Pokemon around the mountain curious.

It had been quiet for some time after they escaped from the Emboar. She wasn't sure if it was Nike's footsteps or just the fact that there were no Pokemon in this area. Aleria's eyes fell upon a spot of ground up ahead that looked like it was moving. She tilted her head slightly to the right and stuck her arm out so that Liam and his Pokemon would stop. Something was happening, and she wasn't sure what it was. "Something's happening... let's watch," she said quietly. The ground broke, sending small pebbles off to the side, and a dark brown oval started to poke through the hole. "A Pokemon..." Aleria said softly. It was either a Diglett or a Dugtrio, but she wasn't sure which one. Either one would be fine; Liam would be able to capture either one if he wanted to. A few moments passed, and a small brown mole poked its head out of the hole. "It's a Diglett," Aleria commented as the Pokemon wrinkled its sideways oval nose. Small black eyes looked around the area for a moment before settling on Aleria, Liam, and Nike; the little Diglett was curious. "Do you want to try and catch it or no?"

Liam stopped and watched as the little mole Pokemon poked its head from out of the ground. Nike barked playfully and started wagging his tail, as if the Diglett was a toy for him. "No no Nike, this isn't a toy." Liam said, rubbing Nike's nose. He looked down at the ground-type Pokemon and pondered if he wanted it or not. It would make a good addition to the team; fast, nice attack, ground type, but it was fragile and it's movepool as a little too moderate for Liam's taste. He looked back up at Al and said, "No thanks Al, I think I'm going to pass on this one. It's cute, but not for me." He smiled as he looked back down at the Pokemon. He adored its simple make, it was nostalgic almost. He whistled to call Nike as he attempted to pass by.

Aleria frowned a little. She was a little disappointed at how this run was going for her and Liam. Mostly Liam though. It just wasn't working out in his favor at all. Of the three Pokemon they'd encountered, none of them were things Liam wanted, or could catch in the case of the Emboar. Al hoped that this would play out better for her trainer. She would hate to have him spend money to come in here only to catch nothing at all. She'd feel really bad if that happened. Really, really bad.

Her frown was lifted though as Nike the Arcanine started playing with the Diglett. She giggled as the poor little Diglett looked confused. It didn't quite understand why the Arcanine was playing with it. "Right, let's try this then." Al tried edging past the small mole Pokemon, but as she walked, she felt something collide with the bottom of her foot, and she fell forward, eventually colliding with the rocky ground. She groaned as she sat up, rubbing her arm. "Guess the Diglett wants to play some more..."

Nike kept playing with the Diglett as it tripped Al. Liam went over to see if she was okay; she seemed fine, just more startled than anything. Nike continued to play with the mole Pokemon, but Liam knew it was time for them to get going. "Come on now Nike, let's go. This Diglett isn't for us, so let's keep going to see if we can find anything else, okay?" Nike looked up at Liam a little disappointed, but understood that there was an agenda to abide by, and that they would play later anyway. "Alright, let's try to get going now." Liam said to Al, helping her up.

Aleria took Liam's assistance in helping her up. Her body was going to be so sore from that stupid Diglett tripping her. Stupid Diglett. Stupid tripping. Stupid rocky ground. A sudden hatred for the mole flared up inside of her, but she resisted the urge to do anything about it. She couldn't interfere with this. One day, she'd get her revenge on the Diglett. One day. Not today, but some other day. No Diglett would ever trip Aleria Cornish again!

"I'm fine, thank you," she said, brushing the dirt off of her jeans and t-shirt. Despite the humidity on the mountain, Aleria was grateful that she was wearing jeans and a t-shirt. Her clothing hadn't taken any damage, but her hands were a little scraped up. No blood though, much to her pleasure. She'd clean herself up at home. It wasn't anything too serious. If they found a lake or something of that sort while they were there, she could wash her hands there. She couldn't remember seeing any water source on the mountain, but Aleria was sure that there was one. "Looks like this Diglett isn't fine with us being in its territory though. Shame. Looks like you're going to have to fight it until we can get away."

Sure enough, the Diglett growled at the Arcanine. The large, dog-like Pokemon didn't seem bothered too much by it. A bold, brave Pokemon like Arcanine wasn't afraid of much. Understandably so, as Arcanine were fiercely loyal Pokemon, and Aleria loved them for that. Speaking of Arcanine, Aleria had a bit of an idea. "Hey, that intimidating thing Arcanine did earlier worked with Emboar. Maybe it'll work with Diglett. If you don't want to battle it, you could try it."

Nike was puzzled by the now attacking Diglett. He pawed at it, jumping back at its reaction, huffing and making dog noises as he studied the mole Pokemon. Liam really didn't want to stay there all day battling, or trying to run from the Diglett, he'd much rather go explore the mountain and see what other Pokemon the area had to offer. This Diglett was becoming more a nuisance than anything. Liam calmed himself down and allowed his irritation to simmer. "May I buy a Pokedoll from you please? I'd rather give this Pokemon something to play with or beat up on, than to beat up on this Diglett." Liam reached into his pocket and pulled out $500 and handed it toward Al with a smile.

"One Poke Doll it is!" Aleria said happily, taking the money from Liam. She folded it up and put it in her back jeans pocket; it would have to be turned into the ranger outpost later, once their run was completed. Nevertheless, Poke Dolls were good for escaping from Pokemon that were just too stubborn to let you go by. Like this Diglett, for example. Aleria took a casual glance at it and nodded. Opening her satchel, she fished out a Poke Doll that was basically a smaller version of Nike. The Growlithe Poke Doll would keep Diglett occupied. "Here you go, little guy. This is your new friend, Growlithe."

As soon as the Poke Doll was placed in front of the Diglett, it took the doll in its mouth and burrowed back underground, taking the plush orange dog with it. "Well, that was easy enough," Aleria commented. "Let's keep walking." She was glad that the stupid Diglett was gone with the toy. It wouldn't trip her again. At least, she hoped it wouldn't. That Diglett had already scraped her hands, and her arms didn't want to be scraped either.

The temperature was starting to cool off a bit, much to Aleria's delight, and she could have sworn she smelled water. Could you smell water? Aleria didn't know. She'd have to find out. Sure enough, they approached a small oasis. Cacti and other desert plants gave the bare, brown mountain some color, and the sparkling blue pond was nice as well. "Water!" she exclaimed, running towards the pond and plunging her hands into it. The stinging sensation made her wince, but the fact that the water was soothing and cleaning her wounds made it all the better. A lapping sound made Al turn to her left. A small red fox was beside her, staring at her because she'd startled it. "Oh... sorry, little guy." Al turned to Liam. "There's a Vulpix here if you want to try and catch it."

Liam was content that the Diglett was gone and happy with its new plush. He knew money doesn't come buy everyday, and he had to work or it, so he understood the loss he had to make. However, it was much worth it when they arrived at the oasis. As Al cleansed her scrapes and scratches, Liam noticed the small, red fox Pokemon drinking from the pool of water. "There's a Vulpix here if you want to try and catch it." Al said, turning toward Liam. Liam smiled with joy, he's always wanted a Vulpix; the smooth fur warm to the touch, its simple and nostalgic form, a fire type with psychic undertones made it almost irresistible for Liam to pass up. "Yes," Liam said to Al, "I'd love to capture this Pokemon."

Liam held out a hand for Nike, who was disciplined enough to understand to hold off until Liam commanded so. Nike sat and opened his mouth to pant. Liam grabbed the second Pokeball from his belt and enlarged it like he had with Nike's. He threw it into the air as he said, "Let's go, Jason!" The Pokeball opened up and out came a flashing white light. The light materialized to form a spiky, yellow coyote Pokemon. Jason's eyes were closed and his pins were flat. "You ready to do this Jason?" With the sound of his name, Jason shot his eyes open and unfurled his spikes with electrical charges running around his body as if he were static. "Jolt! Jolt!" Jason barked out, letting Liam know he was ready for a battle.

The Vulpix looked up over at Jason and Liam as Liam said, "Alright Vulpix, you're an amazing Pokemon, and I want you to be mine. Jason, remember when we're attacking that this Pokemon is for capture, so don't use too much power or else we might knock it out, rendering it unable for capture." Jason nodded as he assumed a crouching attack position and awaited orders from Liam. "Let's do this Jason, start of with a Thunder Wave attack to paralyze it and help with the capture! Then I want you to turn that wave into a shock with a Thunder Shock attack! Make sure not to hit the water, or you might risk zapping anything in the water! AND AL!"

Jason tensed up and accumulated some electricity before letting out a surge of blue lightning at the fox Pokemon. He focused his aim, and changed his blue electricity attack into a yellow, more prominent lightning attack at the Vulpix. He made sure not to hit the water for fear of electrocuting the ranger or other unsuspecting Pokemon in their surroundings.

The fact that Liam wanted to catch this Vulpix excited Aleria. She was so thrilled that they'd found something he wanted to catch! Maybe that Diglett hurting her was a good thing... Nah. It probably wasn't. The wounds still ached, and Al was sure that her body would be in pain for a few days after this run. Of course, now that Liam was going to challenge this Vulpix and try to catch it, she actually had to pay attention to the battle. Shifting slightly so that she could see the battle and have one of her hands submerged in the cool blue water, Aleria grinned. The first battle she'd ever get to witness in the National Park where the trainer caught the Pokemon. It was exciting, and excitement bubbled up inside of her.

Liam told his Arcanine to stay back, and that meant Aleria would have to keep a closer eye on the battle. If Arcanine intervened, it wouldn't be fair to that poor little Vulpix, who was currently gazing up at the spiky yellow Jolteon that appeared in a flash of bright light. As long as Arcanine stayed back like he was told to, all would be well. Liam catching this Vulpix would make all better... wait a minute. Jolteon? Jolteon was an Electric type! Electric type plus water was bad! Really, really bad! Aleria scrambled to her feet, water splashing from her hand moving around in it, and moved to stand closer to Liam. "I think you just need to worry about anything that may be in the water... I'll clean my wounds when you're done."

Aleria had no intention of becoming fried on her first park run as a ranger. Not today, no sir.

Vulpix cried out in pain when blue lightning came into contact with her fur. Aleria felt bad for the poor fox, but the paralysis would help Liam catch it in the long run. Hopefully. If his Jolteon didn't knock it out first. The fox stumbled forward, its body still shaky with the effects of paralysis settling in. Its body hadn't fully adjusted to it yet, so Vulpix was forced to stumble around until it did get used to it. It managed to regain its composure enough to glare at the Jolteon, sending a purple orb at the Eeveelution. Jolteon followed the orb around his body, moving so that he could see it, and then it split into two and flew into his eyes. Suddenly, the Jolteon was dazed!

"Vulpix," the fox whimpered. Aleria chuckled.

"I think it's trying to say something along the lines of 'that's what you get for paralyzing me,'" Aleria said. "You're doing fine though." And then she jumped. Despite its paralysis, the Vulpix was able to launch a steady stream of flames from its mouth. The flames hit Jolteon, but Aleria couldn't see any burns on the Electric typed Eeveelution. Just scorch marks. Jolteon shook the flames off and launched a Thundershock at the fox, which narrowly missed; the shock of it hitting the smooth ground near Vulpix was enough to damage it just a little bit and knock her over though.

Liam cringed as the flames hit his dear Jolteon. He's had Jason for a very long time, almost since he began on his journey. Seeing Jason get hit with an attack pained Liam as well, although he knew it wasn't in comparison as to the pain Jason felt; flames just have more of a physical burn than the brain can pretend. He was proud of Jason for executing the attacks so well, even under the blight of the flames. "Great job Jason!" Liam exclaimed, yelling out his enthusiastic cheers.

He turned back at Nike who was still sitting there, watching the battle play out, and panting. "Thanks Nike, for letting Jason take this one, you're doing great just sitting there." He winked and smiled at his great, canine Pokemon and turned back to the battle.

Jason was breathing heavily from the exertion on his body, baring his teeth, and ready to attack. He waited for Liam's orders and focused on the Vulpix. "Alright Jason, we're going to hit this Vulpix a little harder now, but remember we're trying to add her to our team!" Jason nodded, as he sniffed the ground adding to his focus on the fire fox Pokemon. "Run up quick with a Quick Attack and as you run into it, bite it with a Thunder Fang!"

Jason barked as he dashed quickly into a sprint. Liam remembered when Jason first learned thunder fang as a Jolteon, he had just evolved and was showing off his electrical prowess. Liam loved how his fangs would glow yellow, and static would dance across his fangs in a sporadic ballet. He also adored how Jason ran in his quick attack; how his feet pushed off from the ground, how his body stretched in extension, and how most of the time his feet weren't even touching the ground like cheetahs running in the Serengeti. Liam loved the physiology of his pride electric coyote Pokemon, but knew he was a brave Pokemon and needed a little encouragement to stay focused on the prize: capturing Vulpix. "You're amazing Jason, keep up the good work!" Liamed hoped his faith in Jason would spark a flame inside that would cause Jason to act wondrously in battle, but with enough self discipline to hold back when necessary.
