Individual RP: Ace Trainer Liam

((I forgot to mention this last time, but you were at CON-0 last turn, so you're at CON-1 at the end of this one. Derp. JUST THOUGHT YOU SHOULD KNOW. #badranger))

Vulpix yipped at the trainer and his Pokemon as the former encouraged the latter. Aleria allowed herself to smile at the cuteness of the Vulpix as she got back to her feet. Though she was a little shaky, her body was starting to adapt to the electricity that went through her furry body. She yipped again, waiting for her opponent to make a move.

The plan now was to strike a little harder, probably because Aleria was away from the water now, but the red head couldn't be too sure of that. All she could be sure of was that this Jolteon was running quite fast towards the yipping Vulpix. Despite the fact that Jason the Jolteon was confused, he seemed to be doing quite well... until he tripped over a rock and tumbled into the yipping Vulpix, who was too slow to avoid the tumbling Electric typed Eeveelution. The pair tumbled into a nearby tree, which was barren due to the immense amount of heat that radiated from the mountain; Aleria was surprised that this oasis even existed, but a source of water was generally useful even on mountains that were ridiculously hot. Jolteon's fangs, which had been radiating with electricity earlier, had stopped glowing yellow when he tripped. The shock of tripping over that small rock had caused Jolteon to lose his concentration, and as such, Thunder Fang never even happened.

"Well, that seemed to work out nicely. They'll be nice partners in a team battle," Aleria said with a chuckle. But then she frowned when the Vulpix started to glow black before slamming into the Jolteon. Payback would use the damage the fox just received and give it back to the electric Eeveelution twofold. The force of the attack knocked Jolteon away from the fire fox. "That looked like it hurt..." Aleria mused aloud as she watched the Vulpix shake her head.

Liam watched as the Vulpix yipped; what an adorable Pokemon. He couldn't wait for that fluffy, red, fire fox to be a part of his team. Liam watched as his prized electric Pokemon tripped and collided with the Vulpix; Jason's Thunder Fang attack failed due to his inability to focus after being confused. Liam smacked his forehead with his palm as he blamed himself for forgetting Jason was confused. "Oh man!... What a dunce!" He said to himself, rubbing his forehead. He looked back up in time to watch Jason be pushed back by the Vulpix in a hard-hitting Payback attack. "Ouch..." Liam said to himself, cringing in pseudo-pain.

He thought momentarily as he analyzed the situation; Jason was close to the Vulpix, but was confused and should be switched out so he won't be in danger any longer. Maybe a Hidden Power attack could do some damage as he came back? Liam knew that time was running out so he made up his mind. "Jason, you're doing great, just focus in on the Vulpix and let out a Hiddin Power attack! Then after you attack, return back to me so Nike can come in and hopefully finish this battle up!"

Jason stood from the ground, stumbled in his confusion, but got o his feet and focused in on the Vulpix. He raised his head as glowing balls of light started to accumulate around Jason's body. Jason let go of the force as he jumped into the air; the mysterious, hidden energy shot out around from where Jason had been standing. Jason had leaped into the air toward Liam as Nike assumed the attacking position, ready for his Intimidation to press upon the small, fox Pokemon.

Aleria gave Liam an encouraging pat on the back after he beat himself up about forgetting his Jolteon's confusion. "It's alright, it happens. You're doing good," she said encouragingly. Encouraging the new guy was good, right? It sounded like the right thing to do. She was a ranger; she was the moral support. Without her, Liam wouldn't be here right now, and apparently, he'd been waiting a while. Silly busy rangers, making this poor kid wait. Al felt bad that he had to wait so long, but at the same time, she was honored that her first run got to be with a new person as well. It made her feel a little more comfortable about this whole rangering thing. The newbies gotta stick together.

As dark brown orbs surrounded Jolteon, the Electric Eeveelution shook his head. He needed to focus. He fixated his gaze on the Vulpix before him, and he launched the five orbs one by one at the fire fox. While Vulpix was distracted by the Hidden Power, Jolteon and Arcanine switched places. It was perfect timing for Jolteon, but not so perfect timing for Vulpix. As she recovered from being hit by three of the five Hidden Power orbs, she launched a burst of fire that took the shape of a Japanese character. Nike took the hit, and Vulpix shook her head as she recovered from the attack. Looking up at the Arcanine, Vulpix shivered and backed away a little, letting out a little bit of fire from her mouth that fizzled out soon after leaving her body and gave a nervous yip at the larger Fire type. Arcanine's Intimidate was successful.

Liam gave Al a nervous smiles; she had probably done this a million times, and probably thought that this newbie made a simple, newbie mistake. He was content, however, at the fact that Jason was able to execute the Hidden Power attack well and switched out just in time. That inferno of a Flamethrower attack would've done a lot of damage to a regular electric type Pokemon like Jason, but luckily Nike, being a big strong fire Pokemon took the hit well. A little damage, but Liam knew that Nike wouldn't be too hurt from the attack. He watched as his Arcanine stared down at the Vulpix, piercing it's soul with fear as his intimidation took effect. Liam turned toward Jason as Nike continued his intimidation.

"Alright Jason, you did wonderfully, but it's time to return to your Pokeball." Liam took the small Pokeball from his belt, unclipped it, and pointed it at his Jolteon. A red beam streamed from the Pokeball to Jason, encompassing the electric coyote Pokemon, and absorbing him into the red and white ball. Liam returned the Pokemon to the clip on his belt and turned back toward the ensuing battle between Nike and the Vulpix. "Okay Nike, now it's time for you to attack it with your Thunder Fang attack!"

The Arcanine's teeth grow as they started to glow with yellow, electric light. His bared teeth before were playing an intimidation game, but now they were really threatening for the Vulpix. Nike stepped closer to the fire fox Pokemon as it continued to yip and coward slightly from the intimidation.

"After you attack Nike, use the sun's rays to recharge and heal yourself using Morning Sun! Then, if you have time, surprise it with an outstandingly fast Extremespeed attack, but go easy, I still want to add this fire fox cutey to our team!" Liam knew that Arcanine's were known for their speed, but his was trained in that area. He had trained Nike to be not just fast, but extremely fast; as an outcome to the training Nike had learned the envious attack: Extremespeed.

Liam crossed his fingers in hope for great accuracy from his faithful companion. He even bit his lower lip a bit in nervous concentration as Nike crept closer with his electric fangs readied for biting. Nike let out a ferocious bark as he lunged forward; Liam awaited the result of his commands

Al smiled at the Jolteon just before it was absorbed in the flash of red light to go back into his Poke Ball; she wasn't sure if he'd seen her smile, but maybe the Jolteon would know that she was proud of him regardless. She wasn't even his trainer, and she was proud of him. Then again, she should be the encouraging one between the two trainers. Not that Liam wasn't supposed to be encouraging either, but Aleria had to do something to make sure the trainer felt comfortable and that he or she enjoyed his or her time in the park.

Bringing her attention back to the battle, she looked back just in time to see Vulpix trying to get away from Arcanine, whose fangs were glowing yellow and sparkling with electricity. The fox Pokemon had recovered too late from the intimidation Nike the Arcanine had set before her, and her paralysis, despite her body getting used to it, was slowing her down in her attempts to flee from the Arcanine's Thunder Fang. Her fear had probably shaken her up, and her brain must've forgotten about the paralysis, therefore slowing down.

"VULPIIIIIIIIX~!!" the small fire fox cried out painfully as Arcanine bit into her brown fur. She stumbled back as Arcanine moved away from her, falling onto her rump. Vulpix shook her head, trying to knock some sense back into herself. As much as she wanted to dodge, she couldn't. As much as she wanted to win this, she just couldn't. Not with her paralysis. Aleria felt bad for the fox, but she knew it was all worth it in the end; these kind of tactics were seen all the time in the park. It was just strange seeing it in the eyes of a ranger and not as a trainer. As a trainer, she was so focused on the battle that she didn't think about the pain that she was putting the poor Pokemon through, but as a ranger, she was watching the battle, watching the action that happened before her.

Arcanine closed his eyes and looked up at the sun, basking in the rays of the brightest star in the solar system. His body glowed white for a brief moment, and when it stopped, he was looking at the Vulpix with a newfound confidence. He didn't need too much healing because he wasn't too damaged; Fire Blast, despite being one of the most powerful Fire type moves, didn't do too much to Arcanine.

The fire fox tried to use another Confuse Ray, hurling a small orb of light that rapidly changed colors at the Arcanine, but it missed its target. ExtremeSpeed allowed the Arcanine to move quickly, and he moved so fast that Vulpix didn't even have a chance to think about moving before she was crying out in pain again. She tumbled backwards, but as she did, she used her momentum to launch another Confuse Ray at her target, which actually hit because Arcanine was steadying himself after running so quickly. Arcanine's eyes dilated a bit, but he otherwise seemed fine... for now.

Liam watched as his Arcanine executed his orders flawlessly. He was so proud of Nike, and always has been. Nike was a gift from his parents when he was younger, and was a pet for many years. However, when Liam started his journey Nike insisted on coming along. Liam remembers that he was against it at first, not wanting his wonderful pet Pokemon to get hurt, but now in the heat of battle he doesn't regret that decision one bit. The Vulpix stumbled and cried out in pain; Liam felt sad that the poor fox Pokemon was getting a beating from this much larger canine Pokemon, but it was necessary if Liam wanted to catch this Pokemon in the Park.

"Nike, you did a wondrous job!" Liam encouraged Nike. Nike tried to raise his head with a proud, triumphant huff, but his dilated eyes were a little sensitive to the light. With Nike just using Morning Sun, the sun was still a little bright, so Nike kept his head down a bit and squinted his eyes. He still huffed though, but more out of trying to shake the confusion off that a proud gruff. "It's okay Nike, you did well, but I think this is about over."

Liam turned toward the fire fox Pokemon; paralyzed, dazed, and weakened it seemed to be the perfect time for Liam to throw a Park Ball at it. He reached for on in his pocket and enlarged it by tapping the button.

"Alright Vulpix, I know I've been hurting you, but I want you to be mine. After I capture you and we leave the park I can take you home and heal you there. So let's do it!" Liam shouted as he held up the Park Ball and pitched it toward Vulpix. He smacked it right on the forehead with the ball, and he winced as it did so. Liam watched as the ball engulfed the little fire fox inside of it and wiggled back and forth. Nike tried to watch as well, but kept shaking his head and squinting from the ongoing confusion. Liam crossed his fingers and wished for the best of luck.

Aleria nodded to the Arcanine with a smile as he tried to shake off the confusion. Even the sun was bothering the poor Fire type, and they normally loved the sunlight. She glanced over at Liam as he complimented the Fire type's hard work in the battle, during the brief time he'd been in it. Al was proud of him. He was about to catch his first Pokemon in the park. Hopefully, anyways. She'd learned that Pokemon were tricky creatures.

He threw the ball at the Vulpix, after he'd apologized to the fox. The ball hit and absorbed the Pokemon. It shook once... twice... three times... And in a flash of white light, the Vulpix reappeared, yipping and wagging her tail at the Arcanine. Tail Whip didn't seem to bother Arcanine too much, but the Park Ball Liam had used rolled away towards the oasis; said ball didn't actually go into the water. It still had an inch or so before it fell in, but if they weren't careful enough, the ball would be submerged and there was no telling whether or not they'd be able to retrieve it.

Liam snapped his fingers as the Vulpix came back out, rematerializing onto the battle field. He calmly, and cautiously sneaked over to the edge of the oasis and reached for the Park Ball. He first put his hand out over the water, cupped his palm, and came from behind and slightly under the Park Ball to grab it. Once it was in his hand he grasped it tight, not to loose it. He looked up at the Vulpix who was wagging their tail fiercely at Nike. Liam smiled and sighed at the same time.

"Okay, okay little one. I get it. You're tough, you can hold your own, hell, you're playing hard to get. Well, Vulpix, I think it's time. I'm going to catch you, I believe in it, heart in the Pokeball, friendship is magic, and we're going to make a great team!" Liam said as Nike shook his head. Liam didn't know if it was from the embarrassing Tail Whip that lowered Nike's defenses, if it was Nike's confusing, or if it was Liam himself. Any way it didn't matter, Liam was just talking to the Vulpix to make it listen and stand still so that he could focus on it.

Liam licked his lips and bit his tongue slightly in concentration as he pulled back and threw the Park Ball again. "Go Pokeball!" He shouted nostalgically, he used to watch the old reality tv shows when he was a kid; they would fallow trainers on their journeys and one of the main guys would always shout that when he tried to capture a Pokemon.

The Pokemon smacked the Vulpix again, this time on its side. The fire fox Pokemon didn't flinch this time since it hit a soft spot instead of a more sensitive area like the face. The Vulpix rocked back and forth continuously in the Park as Liam prayed for luck. He held up his Pokeball around his neck and kissed it for luck; Liam crossed his figures and chanted quietly to himself wishes of good luck and success.

Vulpix yipped at Liam as he moved towards the Park Ball. Liam made a little speech at the Vulpix after she'd wagged her tail. Heart in the Pokemon she got. Friendship is magic? What was this? That My Little Pony shit? Aleria shook her head; that pony show or whatever the hell it was was so stupid. She hated it. Al was a Harry Potter girl herself. Favorite book, favorite movie, it was like Harry Potter was a way of life. She had no objections to that either.

Oh, right, Al was in the park. She made a mental note to read some Harry Potter before bed tonight. The fifth book sounded good. She'd enjoy reading about Umbridge and her antics at the fictional school. Liam threw the ball at the Vulpix, and a silly quote from the final Harry Potter book came to mind. 'I open at the close.' A grin spread across the redhead's face as she watched the Vulpix get absorbed into the ball again.

Once... twice... three times... CLICK! The ball stayed shut, and Aleria let out a sigh of relief. She was grateful that the fox had stayed in her ball. Looked like that wasn't opening at the close. "Nice work. Would you like to continue on, or do you want to take a rest break here?"

Liam anticipated the click, and when it finally sounded he snapped and winced in victory. He pulled out his Pokeball for Nike and pointed it toward the fire canine Pokemon. "Okay, Nike, you did amazingly well. But it's time you went back into your Pokeball and took a rest, especially from that confuse ray attack." The red light came shooting out of the button in the middle of the Pokeball and reabsorbed Nike into it. Liam shrunk the ball and smiled at it, like a father looks at his children when they do something to make him proud. He walked over and picked up the Parkball with Vulpix inside of it and handed it to Al. "I'm not sure if I hold onto it, or whatever, but I think we can continue on." He smiled and waited for Al's reply.

Aleria took the Park Ball from Liam and deposited it into a side pocket of her satchel. "Thanks," she said, looking back up at her trainer. "Yeah, I'm supposed to hold onto it. You'll get her back when we're done here, don't worry. As much as I'd like a Vulpix of my own, I'm not gonna take yours. I don't wanna lose my job right when I just got it." She laughed at her own little joke. She was actually enjoying being a ranger, and she'd hate to lose her job right away. That would be the worst thing ever. Al would probably gain the title of "person who held a ranger position for the least amount of time." Liam was definitely getting his Vulpix. This job meant way too much to her. She wasn't like the Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers she'd read about in her novels, though being able to work at a magical school sounded really cool.

She nodded when Liam said they should continue on. "Right, let's go this way then." During the battle, she'd spotted a path on the opposite side of the oasis, so she led the way around that. They continued on, walking on a rocky path (as if there was anything else on this mountain), until Aleria held her arm out, stopping Liam. Out of the corner of her eye, she could have sworn she saw one of the rocks moving. It was a pale yellow rock, and when it popped up into a standing position to look at the trainers curiously, it was nibbling on a blue berry, probably taken from the nearby oasis. "A Sandshrew," Aleria commented as the Mouse Pokemon nibbled on its berry with wide eyes. "You want it?"

Liam chuckled at bit at Al's comment as they continued on along the path. They stumbled across a Sandshrew and Liam adored it. It was cute and squeaky; he watched as it gnawed on a berry. "A Sandshrew," Al said, "you want it?" Liam studied the little badger-shrew Pokemon and he said, "Well, she is cute," the Sandshrew squeaked up at him as he laughed a bit and said, "I'd probably name her something like... oh I don't know Hufflepuff, or Scabbers, something odd and different like that, but I think I'll pass." He looked up at Al and the path. "She's not really what I'm looking for."

A smile spread across the redhead's face when Liam made the Harry Potter references. Not only were they both going on their first park run together, not only did they share a liking for Fire types, but they also shared a liking for Harry Potter. It made Aleria smile. This guy was awesome. "Scabbers would be a more fitting name since it's a mouse. Wormtail too, maybe, but I never really liked him." Even his name was dumb. Who even came up with the name Wormtail? It was probably a silly name Peter Pettigrew himself came up with. She hated it. Al shrugged. Opinions were opinions, and everyone had their own. "Or maybe Hufflepuff would be a better name. Looks like it found something, if you catch my drift."

As she spoke, Hufflepuff the Sandshrew scampered off in the direction they'd just come from with its half-eaten berry in hand. Whatever it was it had seen was coming from the oasis. Aleria shrugged again. "Right, let's continue on, then." They continued along the rocky path and eventually entered a cave. The dim lighting of the cave caught Aleria's attention as soon as they walked in, so she stopped Liam for a moment. "Just a second. Let's get some light in here," she said, reaching for a red and white capsule in her satchel. In a flash of white light, a chandelier-like Pokemon appeared before them. The purple flames from her Chandelure would help them until they got out of the cave. "Okay, Chandelier, lead the way."

They continued on, with Chandelier the Chandelure leading the way, and Aleria and Liam walking behind the Fire and Ghost type Pokemon. They walked in silence until they encountered their next target. The red and blue Pokemon had a thick black mustache, and it essentially looked like a large magnet. "Looks like we've got a Probopass here. You want this big guy?"

Liam fallowed Al into the dark cave. Chills crept over him until Al sent out her fiery ghost Pokemon. Liam gawked a bit at the beauty of the Chandilure; he had hoped that he would find a Litwick on his journey and now that there was a Chandilure in their presence maybe finding one would be easier. Liam's head was a melange of thoughts: what name to give to his new Vulpix Pokemon, what other kinds of Pokemon are they going to find, are they going to find the perfect kinds of Pokemon for him, will he find a beloved Litwick, would they find something better than that, what does fate have in store for him, how did Al get her Chandilure, was she once walking in his shoes, would he be walking in her shoes one day, etc. Liam hadn't noticed the calm silence of the cave, only disrupted by the random drip of a water droplet, or the faint whip of Chandelier's fire.

Suddenly the fire-light enlightened a large red and blue object. The large boulder-like Pokemon turned to show it's large nose and mustache.

"Probopass" it emitted loudly, electrically and gargled. Liam snapped out of his day-dreaming as the large magnet Pokemon startled him. He could feel his belt buckle, watch, and Pokeballs being pulled by the Pokemon's magnetic field.

"Looks like we've got a Probopass here. You want this big guy?" Al said. Liam rubbed the back of his head and said, "Nah, I think I'll pass on this big lug. He's cool, but not what I'm exactly looking for, ya know?" He blew out a few huffs of nervous air as he took a couple steps away from the Probopass.

Chandelier tried to move past the large Probopass, but that had failed epically. The Pokemon with an ugly mustache had blocked Chandelier's path. Aleria groaned, glancing over to Liam. This was going to be another five hundred PokeDollars out of his pocket.

"Don't blame you. Got an ugly mustache there too," Aleria commented now that she knew that getting past Probopass wouldn't be as easy as expected. It was a Probopass. Maybe they were trained to not let people pass by easily because 'pass' was in their name. She didn't know. The theory made sense in her head, but ask her to put it in writing or speak it, and she'd confuse the hell out of you. Nevertheless, the Probopass was still here, and they needed to get past it before Liam could encounter anything else. "We can try running again, or we can go for the much easier approach of dropping five hundred PokeDollars on a doll. Your choice."

The large nosed Pokemon blocked their path and hummed a monotonous electrical buzz. Liam scowled a bit in thought as Al asked, "We can try running again, or we can go for the much easier approach of dropping five hundred PokeDollars on a doll. Your choice." Liam thought for a moment, but remembered his mother's words from when he was a kid, 'Patience is a virtue...'.

"Let's see if there's another way around this big lug." Liam decided; he tried walking around where the light from Chandlure ceased and hopefully sneak away in mid-darkness.

Apparently dropping five hundred PokeDollars wasn't an option for Liam as they tried to sneak past the Probopass with the shadows, a feat easier said than done thanks to the light Chandelier gave off. Aleria would have returned Chandelier to her Poke Ball if she knew that there wasn't the chance that Liam, who was leading the way currently, wouldn't run into something. Chandelier traveled in between the trainer and the ranger, ready to jump out and defend them if the time arose to do so.

But it never did. Instead, Probopass made what could be described as a grunting noise and carried on through the cave. That was one problem down, thankfully.

Aleria took the lead again now that Probopass was gone, walking alongside her Chandelure, whose purple flames illuminated the cavern. A roar echoed through the cave, and Chandelure instantly floated towards the source, leading them towards the right of the fork in the road that they'd come to. Whatever had roared was getting closer because the second roar that the trio heard led them not only to cave's exit, but also to an angry Rhyperior. The large dark grey and orange creature gave another roar upon laying its black eyes on the trio.

Her gaze moved to Liam. Angry or not, Rhyperior was here, and Liam would either have to attempt to catch it, buy a doll, or try to flee without the doll and not die in the process. "Rhyperior. Want one? There's the Poke Doll and the run without paying plans too if you don't want this big guy."

As they ran out of the cave and saw the tremendous Rhyperior, Liam was excited and taken back a bit. He'd never seen a Rhyperior up close before, only on TV during the League Tournaments. "Oh man, if only I had a camera," Liam said a bit disappointed, "but uh..." he was a little too frightened to try and escape on their own. He could tell this Rhyperior was upset and wished he could do something to calm it down, but he also knew how temperamental and radically violent these Pokemon were. "I think I'll buy a Poke Doll from ya Al, this might get ugly if we try and just escape on our own." Liam sweated a bit out of nervousness, but was still enthralled by the fact that he was seeing one of these powerful, magnificent beasts first hand.

Oh, okay, good. Very good. Very, very good. They would not be dying by the hands of a Rhyperior today. Aleria was okay with this. Very okay with it, actually. So okay with it that she was overjoyed that Liam was handing her five hundred PokeDollars to purchase a Poke Doll will.

She was so overjoyed that she just about snatched the money from the poor kid's hand.

But she didn't do that, no. That would've been rude. She calmly took the money from the trainer, putting it into her bag and taking out a Rhyhorn shaped Poke Doll. She shrugged. At least they were in the same evolutionary family. Aleria waved for Liam to go move past the Rhyperior, returning her Chandelure as she did so. They were back outside now. Chandelier's assistance was no longer required.

"Hey, big guy!" Aleria called when Rhyperior's attention tried going to Liam. "Over here!" The Rhyperior's attention turned to Aleria, who was waving the Poke Doll much like a matador would wave his red flag out to a bull. "Go fetch!" And she chucked the Rhyhorn doll, watching as it chased after it. Aleria walked past where the Rhyperior once stood, joining Liam outside of the cave. "Right, so let's find us a new Pokemon for you to hopefully catch."

And so their expedition continued.

They followed a worn path that seemed like it had been used countless times over the years the National Park had been a thing. How many trainers and rangers had been through Mount Deckbi, Aleria wondered. Her eyes fell upon a sparkling, clear blue oasis, and then there was a little red Pokemon with a yellow circle around its mouth and a yellow marking on its belly that looked somewhat similar to a flame. Aleria instantly recognized it as a Magby, suddenly grateful for the immense amount of knowledge she had about Fire type Pokemon. It was climbing a berry tree, which had red berries that looked rather similar to cherries hanging from it. Aleria's attention turned to Liam. "Want this Magby?"

Liam was content about making the Rhyperior chase after the doll. He awed at the oasis for its rarity and beauty being a sparkling body of water in a hot and dry mountainous area. "Want this Magby?" Al asked breaking Liam's attention. He looked over to find the small baby Pokemon rummaging around a berry tree. Liam smiled as the little fire Pokemon was cute, but not something Liam was too interested in. "He's a cute one, but I think I'll pass up on this one."
