Individual RP: Ace Trainer Liam

No Trapinch either. Aleria wanted to frown a bit, but she resisted the urge to. She had to remind herself that she couldn't sway his decision one way or another. Trapinch became a Flygon though, and besides it's super weakness to Ice type moves, it wasn't a half bad Pokemon in Aleria's eyes. She shrugged. Oh well, his loss. Maybe he'd get one some other way.

Aleria and Chandelier led the way past the Trapinch. The small Pokemon didn't even bother to look away from its food as the trio walked past it. "Must be too hungry to battle," Aleria commented once they were (hopefully) out of its hearing range. The path continued to slope downward, and as they went down, the dead bushes became more and more frequent. The further down they got, the more lively the bushes looked too.

And then a Roggenrola crashed into Chandelier, and they both crashed into the ground. "Whoa!" Aleria said, suddenly stopping before she walked into her own Pokemon. "Whoa there." The small rock was similar to the one Liam had caught not too long ago. "Welp." Given how he had reacted to seeing a second Vulpix, Aleria had a pretty good guess in regards to what Liam's answer would be to this panicked little guy, who was looking at the now floating Chandelier with fear in its eye, but she had to ask anyways. "I think I know what your answer is, but I'm required to ask anyways. Do you want to try and catch another Roggenrola?"

Liam continued walking leaving the Trapinch behind. He walked a few paces behind Al as they descended down the slope to a more lush area. Liam had skidded a few times on the path due to the path being riddled with small pebbles as well as them being on a slight slope. But then he gave a start as another Roggenrola burst out onto the scene and collided with Al's Chandelier. Liam skidded and almost fell, but he caught himself in a surprisingly skilled way. Al didn't seem to notice that he almost beefed it and crashed into her as she asked him if he wanted the Roggenrola.

"Haha, nah I don't think so." Liam said as he reacquainted himself. "Since I already caught one, and this little guy looks so scared, I think we'll just leave him be. Thanks though." He smiled as he attempted to press on.

NBP #18

It was of no surprise to Aleria that Liam didn't want the Roggenrola. He had literally caught one less than half an hour ago, if that. She wasn't sure how much time had really passed since the Roggenrola was captured. All she knew was that he caught that and a Vulpix. She didn't need to log the times of capture... did she? Oh no, Aleria hoped not. She'd be fucked if that was the case.

"Haha, nah I don't think so," Liam said.. "Since I already caught one, and this little guy looks so scared, I think we'll just leave him be. Thanks though." Right. Trainer. Liam. Leading him through the park. Yes, they were doing that today. If she had to fill in times, she could just write some rough estimates in. They'd never know the difference.

"Okey doke," Aleria replied. She took a few steps forward, but she was stopped in her tracks as the panicked Roggenrola ran in circles around her. Chandelier got a fair distance ahead of them before she realized her trainer was trapped by a Roggenrola and couldn't progress forward. She floated back and fixated her eyes on the rock. "It's fine, Chandelier. The Pokemon won't hurt me. It's just panicked about something. Maybe it got scared or something." She shrugged and turned to Liam. "Looks like it's not letting us go though."

Liam watched as the Roggenrola panicked and ran in circled blocking their path. It encircled Al as her Chandelier came back to protect her.

"Maybe it got scared or something." Al said. They were being stalled by the poor little guy and Liam felt bad for it. It was scared and probably had a lot of anxiety being suddenly tossed into a situation facing a powerful Pokemon like Chandelier and looking in the faces of two trainers who were much larger than the little rock Pokemon.

"It's okay lil' guy." Liam said as he bent down to comfort the panic-stricken Pokemon. The Roggenrola stopped running but looked at Liam with a terrified look. "It's okay, we don't want to hurt you." He gave a smile as he nurtured the Roggenrola. "We'll just be on our way, okay bud?" Liam stood back up and proceeded to continue
walking down the path in hopes of an escape.

NBP #19

Good guy Liam. He managed to stop the Roggenrola from running in a panic around Aleria, but the little guy still looked a little unnerved. Why was it so panicked anyways? Had something happened up ahead? Was Chandelier scary to the little Pokemon? No, that was doubtful. Roggenrola was panicked before it had laid eyes on Chandelier.

Still, Liam was dead set on not catching the Roggenrola. Aleria watched as he walked down the path that Roggenrola had come down, but the little rock was having none of that. It chased after Liam, stumbling a bit, and stepped in front of him. Al frowned as she and Chandelier approached the pair. "Looks like it doesn't want us to go forward for some reason. We could try distracting it with a doll, maybe."

Liam halted as he almost tripped over the little Roggenrola. He could see it was afraid of something, but not sure what. He pitied the little rock guy a little bit; it was unfortunate that he came so late in his run or else he would've caught this one instead of the either, but oh well. Liam, holding back a bit of an annoyed look in his eye, looked up at Al and huffed sympathetically. "I think we should give this guy a doll for the road, to help his spirit out and make him more calm and jazz."

Aleria nodded. The doll was probably their best bet at this point. Two failed attempts, it was likely to attack if they tried to just walk away again. She and Chandelier walked forward, and the ranger took the PokeDollars from her trainer. Pocketing those funds, she took out a plush Clefairy from her bag. "Okay, Roggenrola, go cling to the doll." She tossed the doll, and the rock scampered away after it.

"Now let's go see what this little guy's scared of." And so they did. They walked down the path until they saw a confused, yet rather frazzled Sandslash on their path. There was a bit of frustration in the Ground type's black eyes. It was looking for something, or even someone, obviously. The Roggenrola, maybe? The world would never know. Aleria turned to Liam, speaking quietly so as not to gain the Pokemon's attention. "Are you interested in a Sandslash?"

Liam strolled along, happy to see the Roggenrola wisp off after the Clafairy doll. As they continued, they came around the bend to find a Sandslash; a sandy-yellow, waist-high shrew Pokemon with large brown plated quills on its back. Its beady black eyes moved furiously around the scene, inspecting almost every speck down its elongated snout which sniffed the air feverishly. "Are you interested in a Sandslash?" Al asked as Liam surveyed the ground type Pokemon. Its voice huffed in and out in between forceful sniffs, still searching for something it lost, or wants to find.

"You know what?" Liam said rhetorically. "I think I would like to attempt to capture it!" By now the Sandslash's oval ears wiggled as it located the source of sound and turned toward Al and Liam. Liam stepped out and grabbed a Pokeball clipped to a belt strapped around his waist. He pushed the button, enlarging the Pokeball, and tossed it in the air as he commanded, "Go, Nike!". The large fire canine Pokemon with a tiger like print came roaring out of the Pokeball. After materializing in the air, the Arcanine landed with a small thud in front of the Sandslash and in between it and Liam and Al. Nike roared out, barring his massive and dangerous teeth; his paws firm on the loose dirt making deep indents. Liam noticed the quills on the back of the Sandslash unfurl themselves and it itself lowered its stance to better its ground in preparation of an attack.

"Alright Nike, good job with the intimidation, but watch out for an attack! Attack it with Flamethrower, then follow it up with an Extremespeed to knock it back!" Liam shouted, his hands now clenched in fists and his feet shoulder width apart and tense. The large dog Pokemon let out a booming roar and spat out an intense jet of fire. The flames seared through the air like flaming water from a fire hydrant toward the ground, shrew Pokemon. Then a split second after Nike set the Flamethrower out, it leapt out to the side in a powerfully fast dash. It ran around from side to side so it wouldn't attack the Sandslash before the flames got to it. Liam waited eagerly in those few seconds.

Aleria had to admit, Liam attempting to capture the Sandslash was a bit of a surprise. Maybe there was some underlying reason behind it. If he caught the Sandslash, it wouldn't be able to terrorize the poor Roggenrola they'd encountered not too long ago. Of course, that was also assuming the Sandslash was the reason Roggenrola was so frightened in the first place.

She shrugged. It didn't matter. Liam wanted the Sandslash and he and his Arcanine, which had just materialized from his Poke Ball, would get it. The Sandslash was surprisingly intimidated by the Arcanine, though Aleria wasn't quite sure why. The frustration in its eyes turned into surprise, so that was probably why. That frustration turned into fear as Arcanine released a steady stream of flames from his mouth that hit the Sandslash head on.

No sooner had the first attack finished, Arcanine was racing forward for the second one. Sandslash wouldn't go down easily though. It shook off the Flamethrower, which left scorch marks on its yellow body, and braced itself for the impending attack. That was all the Ground type could do given that Arcanine was moving pretty fast. The ExtremeSpeed hit Sandslash, but the Pokemon had steadied itself enough to not fall back. Instead, it retaliated pretty fast by quickly slashing at Arcanine with its claws.

"Counter," Aleria noted. "Looks like it just wanted your Arcanine to attack there." Arcanine was forced back by the attack, which had gained power from the physical based attack Arcanine had just used on it. Aleria wouldn't have been surprised if some of Sandslash's frustration from whatever it was that was frustrating it and the anger from being caught off guard and subsequently hit by Flamethrower were mixed in with that attack as well. Though its Attack had been lowered, its will and spirit had not been broken. If Liam did capture Sandslash, he'd have a pretty spirited Pokemon on his team.

Sandslash didn't stop there though. It did a bit of a dance, and when it did, its claws shined in the light for a moment. "Swords Dance," Aleria added. "Might be eager to fight too and wants to give something, in this case your Arcanine, a serious pummeling. That and it probably wanted to make up for the fact that its Attack had been lowered by Arcanine's Intimidate."

Liam watched his favorite fire type Pokemon get slashed by the Sandslash's sharp claws in a Counter attack. His Arcanine was knocked back a bit, but looked up and glared at the Sandslash as it did a dance and its claws illuminated. "Swords Dance." He heard Al say. "Might be eager to fight too and wants to give something, in this case your Arcanine, a serious pummeling. That and it probably wanted to make up for the fact that its Attack had been lowered by Arcanine's Intimidate." Liam nodded in noting the advice from Al.

"Hm. Alright Nike, that was great, now let's try to stay your distance from it because it's attack is sharpened, as well as it having Counter, so use Agility to boost your speed and confuse it a little by running around it, but at a nice distance; out of it's swiping range!" Nike nodded and gave out a bark in agreement and started running at an amazing speed. He dashed almost invisibly around the shrew Pokemon as Liam called out more commands. "Great, now send out another flamethrower, just like the one before!" His Arcanine, through the rapid dashes, roared out another jet of flames toward the Sandslash, then sped off again in a blur of orange and white fur.

Arcanine began to run in circles around the Sandslash, who tried his best to watch the Pokemon with his eyes. He got dizzy as he followed the Fire type and found himself stumbling a bit.

All of this running around in circles was kicking up sand though, so the Sandslash used that to his advantage as he spun around, arms outstretched, to kick up a sandstorm of his own. Aleria frowned a bit. "Another Sandstorm? I wouldn't have expected that from this guy."

But apparently the Sandstorm worked in Sandslash's favor as flames were released from Arcanine's mouth. They heard no cry of pain from the Ground type, but Aleria could've sworn she saw a dark energy coming from within the sandstorm. When Sandslash emerged from the sand to strike Arcanine, she could see the dark energy that enveloped his claws. There were scorch marks on his claws, but that hadn't deterred the Ground type at all.

"Night Slash," Aleria said as the Ground type went back to hide in the sand. "I think he's got Sand Veil too, which is going to make him a bit harder to hit."

Liam squinted his eyes as sand started pelting them. "Another Sandstorm?" Al said as Liam huffed a bit. These sandstorms were a bit annoying. Then he heard the Sandslash cry out in pain after a flash of fire and Liam focused over to the battle, even though the sand was making it difficult to see. He saw the outline of Nike being slashed at by dark claws from the Sandslash.

"Alright Nike, come on back!" Liam said to his Arcanine, he could tell this battle was not going in Nike's favor, and didn't want to put him through that. Nike started to walk backwards quickly away from the center of the sandstorm emitting from Sandslash as Liam took out his Pokemon and pointed it at Nike. A red beam shot out of the ball and transformed his large, fire canine Pokemon into red light and absorbed Nike in whole. Liam pocketed the Pokeball and grabbed the one that dangled from his neck. He unsnapped it, enlarged it, then tossed it into the air as he called out from behind it, "Go Calypso, come out and use your Rapid Spin attack similar to last time to dissolve this Sandstorm!"

Out materialized the shimmering purple star fish Pokemon just like before. It spun in the air and cried out with a "Hyyyea!" Then it spun faster in a small cyclone and toward the Sandslash, dispersing the sand around them all. Liam then called out another command for Calypso while it was spinning toward the ground shrew Pokemon, "Calypso, you're doing great, but after this attack hit it with a Bubblebeam to slow it down a bit!" Liam swore he heard another "Hyyea!" from Calypso in acknowledgment while it bounded toward Sandslash. Liam bit his bottom lip in anticipation if this would work.

BP #17

Liam was forced to return his Arcanine after the Sand Veil went up. The Fire type was more of an up close and personal attacker from what Aleria had seen of him, and throwing him into the fray with a Sandslash that he couldn't even touch didn't really help matters much. The Starmie returned to the field, rested up from the earlier battle but not back up to its full health.

The first act was to disperse the sand around the Sandslash. Starmie started spinning and slowly moved closer to the Sandslash. The spinning was enough to send the sand in other directions away from the Sandslash and reveal the Ground type Pokemon. Sandslash used the opportunity to furiously swipe at the Starmie, even after the starfish struck the mouse.

Act two was a steady stream of bubbles that popped upon contacting the sand mouse. Starmie had leaped back after dispersing the sand, and Sandslash hadn't taken the opportunity to bring it back around him and protect himself from other attacks. The starfish released the bubbles from one of its points, and each of the bubbles struck the mouse that charged forward with a dark aura around his claws. The bubbles slowed down Sandslash's charge forward, but it didn't stop him completely as he swiped at the Starmie before leaping back.

Liam saw Calypso get knocked back from the night slash. This Sandslash was a lot tougher than he thought; it had barreled through the bubblebeam even though ti was super effective and slowed it down and managed to land such a hard hitting move. Liam thought about different moves Calypso could use; hydro pump, ice beam, surf, another bubble beam, psychic. Each had their own effects and strengths, but which would be best at this moment in the battle.

"You're doing great Calypso!" Liam encouraged. Liam thought quick of which move Calypso should do next as he was afraid the Sandslash would get an extra move in. "Now, hit it with a Hydro Pump attack!" Calypso was standing straight up, face to starfish gem to Sandslash. Calypso leapt back a bit and shot out a jet of water from one of its arms. The water gushed out straight at the ground shrew pokemon.

"You're doing great Calypso, fallow it up with an Ice Beam attack!" Calypso had just finished expelling water when it's arm switched to glow an electric blue. Then that electric blue light manifested into a stream of frozen beam fallowing the geyser Calypo just expulsed at Sandslash.

Liam was right when his Starmie was doing great. The starfish like Pokemon was probably the star of the show today here in the park. No pun intended, of course.

Anger flickered in the Sandslash's eyes as he rushed towards Starmie with a hand held behind him. Starmie had leapt back to get ready to launch the Hydro Pump, and Sandslash leapt up into the air to try and avoid the attack. He came crashing down on the starfish while letting out a battle cry that echoed through the area. Starmie was knocked down by the attack that left scratches on the purple star, but it wasn't enough to knock it out of the battle completely. Instead, it used one of its arms to release the Hydro Pump and send Sandslash flying into the air. Starmie was able to get back up in this time that Sandslash had been in the air. The sand mouse, once it had shook off the Hydro Pump, curled up in a ball to soften the landing at least a little bit. It helped as the mouse crashed into the ground and sent dirt into the air. It was when he landed that Starmie released the Ice Beam from its star-arm. Sandslash was starting to stand up and stumble around a bit, and he was a little dazed.

When the Ice Beam hit him, he jumped and shook his head. That woke up him and flared the anger in his eyes even more.

"Looks like he wasn't too happy about that Ice Beam," Aleria commented.

Liam winced as the Frustration attack hit Calypso hard. He felt bad that he was upsetting Sandslash so much that that type of attack did so much damage. At the same time, however, he felt worse and cautious about Calypso and about how it was fairing. It had done so much in the park today; Liam didn't want to overexert the starfish.
"Alright Calypso," Liam started, thinking of a plan, "let's confuse it with a Confuse Ray attack! Then while it's confused use Recover to gain some health back!" Calypso nodded its top arm and gave out a "hyyyaaa!" as its ruby gem start to glow.

Calypso leaned back, then jetting its center forward as a large red beam illuminated the scene in front of Sandslash. The beam was surprisingly a bit loud and bright, but Liam could see Calypso glowing with it's Recover.

"Now attack it with another Ice Beam attack!" Liam commanded while Calypso was finishing up its attacks. Liam loved his starfish Pokemon; he knew that this wasn't too much for it to handle. Calypso nodded its top arm again to signal to Liam that it had understood the command.

Sandslash didn't waste any time in charging forward after the commands had been given to Starmie. Arm raised back, the Ground type was ready to strike Starmie again.

But then it ran head on into that red beam that Starmie had released from the gem on the center of its body. While the gem glowed and Starmie recovered its energy and healed itself from the damage taken in this battle, as well as the previous battles the starfish had fought in, Sandslash's run turned into more of a stumble. He did end up tripping and falling face first into the ground, but he ended up smacking himself in the face with his raised arm first.

Now recovered and healed up, Starmie raised an arm of its own back and released the light blue beam of cold energy at the Sandslash, who was sitting up with swirling eyes. The confusion had really gotten to him. Cold hitting him didn't help either. It made him jump and shiver a bit as frost formed on his body, but it didn't actually help his confusion; it didn't freeze him in place either.

Still though, the battle was taking its toll on the Ground type mouse. It would only be a matter of time before Liam was able to capture it.

Sandslash was started to get tired from the battle; Liam noticed it's scratches, sweat and heavy panting. Calypso, albeit a bit scratched up as well, seemed to be in better shape. This battle was going well at the time being and Liam wanted to ride wave of success.

"Great job Calypso!" Liam shouted encouraging his beloved starfish Pokemon. We was so proud of it, the way it obeyed him and stayed composed and relaxed throughout the battle. "Hit it with another ice beam, but be a bit conservative; we don't want to injure it too bad 'cause we want him to join our team!"

Calypso flexed its arms and replied with an agreeable "Hyyaah!" Then it took a strong stance, aimed with its top arm, and shot out another frozen beam of electric ice at the ground shrew Pokemon.

Sandslash shook his head. Despite the daze in his eyes, he was dead set on that starfish that was beating him down. Sandslash jumped a bit. There was some stumbling as he landed, but it was helping him get some pep in his step. Maybe this time, he'd land an attack.

Still though, he didn't flinch when bent an arm in response to its trainer's command. Instead, he bounced back and forth from one spot to another. Sandslash would stumble a bit, but it wasn't enough to knock him down to the ground.

One misstep messed that up for him. He'd just landed to the left with a bit of a stumble, but he saw the attack coming and expected the need to move in an attempt to avoid it, so he tried to. When he immediately jumped again, he fell and the Ice Beam hit him head on. The attack froze an arm of Sandslash's.

"SANDSLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASH!" the Pokemon cried loudly. Aleria actually flinched at the sound it was so loud.

"I don't think this is going to be good," Aleria commented.

And she was right. Sandslash raced forward and slammed his ice covered arm into the Starmie in a fit of rage. The ice shattered on contact. Aleria called out the attacks as she saw them. "Frustration." He brought his arms up and sliced them down in the shape of an X. A bright green X shined on Starmie's body for a moment. "X-Scissor." And then the mouse burrowed in the ground and struck Starmie. He hadn't burrowed completely in the ground, he just went back a bit and then moved forward, bringing the ground up with him. "And that was a Bulldoze."

After the third attack, Sandslash backed away from Starmie. He was panting heavily now, and the dazed look returned to his eyes. "He still looks confused," Aleria said. "I think he was just able to attack in a fit of rage just now. I wouldn't count on it happening again, I think he's starting to get worn out."

Liam blinked. And when his eyes focused to what was happening in the battle it was too late. Calypso had taken all the hits from the enraged Sandslash. Calypso fell back a bit and landed partially on one of its legs. Sandslash was breathing heavily and looked weary-eyed; it was fighting to stay up at this point.

"...I think he's starting to get worn out." Al said and Liam nodded swiftly in agreement as he hurried over cautiously to Calypso; he didn't want to startle the Sandslash.

Liam placed a hand on Calypso as the starfish Pokemon got back up to it's many feet. "Great job Calypso," Liam said softly, "but now..." he turned to face Sandslash who was still glaring at him with confused and tired eyes. "Let's finish this battle, go Pokeball!" Liam grasp a Park Ball from his pocket and toss it toward the Sandslash; he had hoped that Calypso had weakened Sandslash enough for a capture. If he did capture it, then he will have had his three new Pokemon and could leave the Park. Excitement rushed through his veins as he felt like it had been such a long time since he started walking through Mt. Deckbi. All the Pokemon he's seen, the battles he's had, Nike, Jason, Calypso, each of them helping to capture Pokemon and protect him from danger. Al, his ranger, escorting him through the Park and using her Chandelure as a helpful guide through the caves. This could be the end for both of them until Liam's next run; he crossed his fingers and hoped for the best.
