Individual RP: Ace Trainer Liam

Oh darn. Aleria was actually disappointed for once. She'd approved of his capture of Vulpix, and Emboar was a Pokemon they'd encountered, yet Liam was unable to catch it. But Magby? It was so adorable! Well, okay, Aleria thought all Fire types were adorable. She probably wasn't the right person to ask when it came the cuteness of Fire types.

But whatever, it didn't matter. This was Liam's run, not her own. He was allowed to run from Pokemon he didn't want, and Aleria couldn't try to convince him otherwise. Well, maybe she could, but she was sure it was against the rules. She led the way to walk past the Magby, but the little Pokemon caught sight of them and leaped down from the tree, berry in hand, and ran over to the trainers, blocking their path by stepping in front of them.

"Magby!" the Pokemon cried, clearly offended by the fact that they'd ignore it.

"I think Magby wants some love. What do you think? Do you want to try to run again or do you want to give it a doll as a playmate?" Aleria asked.

Liam smiled and knelt down to the Magby. "I'm sorry I don't want you little guy, I'm sure someone will come by and would love to have you, but I would like to continue my run through your lovely home." Liam hoped that if he sweet-talked the little fire Pokemon, it would sympathize and move out of the way. He would like to buy the little guy a Poke Doll to play with and be happy, however, Liam was running out of cash at the moment, and knew it'd be a while until he'd be able to find some. So he decided to hold on to the money and just try to continue. "I think we should try and move on, Al, if we can." He stood up and smiled kindly at the Magby who stood its' ground in defiance. Liam awaited for Magby to let them by.

Okay, Magby was cute, yes. Aleria gave it that much. But when it kicked mud onto your clothes? Not so cute anymore. No, sir. Magby lost all of its cuteness.

They'd tried to move past the Magby again, but this time, the little Fire type was very clearly offended that they were going to ignore it. So instead of, oh, Aleria didn't know, maybe using Flame Burst and scaring the living daylights out of them, the Magby cuts them off and starts kicking up mud and throwing it on to them. Aleria frowned. Rain was one thing, but mud was another. And now she and Liam were covered in mud, no thanks to Magby.

"It used Mud Slap!" Aleria shouted, a bit outraged by the fact that she was now covered in mud. She crossed her arms, frowning and backing away from the Magby. They weren't getting past the little guy without a Poke Doll, that was a given fact. Well, they probably could get past the Magby without a doll, but in their attempts to run, they'd offended the Magby enough to make it want to fight. "We can still try to escape if you don't want to try and catch it now that it clearly wants a fight," Aleria said grumpily. "Regardless, you might want to send out a Pokemon. Mud's one thing, but I don't fancy getting burned to a crisp today."

Liam wiped the mud off of his face a bit annoyed. Internally he agreed with Al that Magby use to be cute, but now it has lost its charm. Liam reached for Arcanine's Pokeball; in action of taking his large, ferocious fire canine out to chew up the baby Magby like a rag doll, Liam thought, 'Keep your cool, it's just a baby Pokemon that got a little offended. Just let Nike show our prowess so we can move along...'.

Liam popped the Pokeball out of socket and clicked the button to enlarge it. As he threw the Pokeball, releasing Nike, Liam shouted, "Alright Nike use your intimidation and your roar attack to frighten off this pest!" The ball capsule opened and out reemerged Liam's Arcanine. The large beast towered over the small Magby and bared its teeth as it snarled; its' hairs stood on end making the already massive canine look bigger and its face scowled with great intensity. Nike took in a very deep breath and roared with great might directly at the small Magby.

Magby was cute, then not so cute, and now tough. Bloody hell, this was one stubborn Magby. It just would not go away. Arcanine made its return, and his eyes flashed, scaring the Magby just a bit, but not to the point where it fled the scene. Stubborn and tough, this little guy was. It was definitely showing.

And then Arcanine used Roar, and the Magby laughed. It laughed. Holy crap. Dear sweet Arceus, what in Merlin's name was this Magby doing?

And then... and then to put icing on the cake, the Magby picked up a handful of mud and rubbed it into the Arcanine's face.

Literally.

Aleria's mouth fell open.

"Holy shit," she breathed. "This Magby is nuts." She shook her head, closing her mouth and turning to Liam. "I hope you have a plan B for getting away from this Magby. I think it's pretty freakin' stubborn if you ask me."

Liam rubbed his eyes- he couldn't believe what he was seeing! This puny Magby was showing up his ferocious Arcanine, how?! It didn't matter anymore; he knew Arcanine was loyal and disciplined, and even loved other Pokemon and people, but Liam also knew that Nike was a little proud and would snap the Magby in half if he lost his cool. "Alright..." Liam said, feeling defeated, "I'll buy another Pokedoll if I may." Liam took out some cash and handed it to Al as he said, "Nike, it's okay come back, let's not waste our time and energy on it."

Aleria nodded as she took the money from Liam and stuffed it into her bag. It was a shame he had to pay for a Poke Doll, but this Magby just had to stick around when Liam didn't want it. Pokemon could be stubborn, and Magby was one of them. Al took out a Poke Doll from her bag, this one Elekid shaped, and tossed the yellow doll to the Magby, who caught it and scampered away. "Maybe he wanted a play thing," she said with a shrug.

With Magby gone, they were able to continue on, and that they did. "Sorry about that, by the way," Aleria said as she led Liam along a path she'd spotted near the oasis. She wasn't quite sure where it led, but they were following it. "Some of the Pokemon here can be a little stubborn. I suppose you've already noticed that though since we just had to use a doll to make that Magby go away." Aleria shrugged again. They continued walking until Aleria stopped, suddenly spotting a navy blue rock with a brown rock on top of its circular body. It was off of their path, but it looked like it was trying to blend in with some rocks that were near it. She pointed to the Roggenrola, glancing over at Liam as she did. "Are you interested in a Roggenrola?"

Liam sighed relief when the Magby ran off with the Elekid doll. As they walked down to the oasis area Liam brushed the mud off of Nike's face; brushing the dirt clean from his white and orange fur. "Some of the Pokemon here can be a little stubborn." Al said, "I suppose you've already noticed that though since we just had to use a doll to make that Magby go away."

"Hah, it's okay, that little guy was probably just having a bad day and took it out on us." Liam replied. Nike barked slightly in an agreeable way. Liam chuckled as they reached the oasis. "Are you interested in a Roggenrola?" Al asked as Liam turned to see her pointing at a pile of rocks. Suddenly one of them wiggled and Liam's eyes fixed on the small rock Pokemon. He took a moment to think if he wanted one or not...

"Sure, I need a rock Pokemon." Liam said as he reached for the Pokeball attached to his necklace. "But, I'm going to have Calypso take over." He unclipped the Pokeball and patted Nike's backside to signal him to sit- as he did just that. Liam threw the Pokeball and out came his glorious Starmie; glittering and shining in the sunlight the Starmie spun its' back star quickly as it justly gave out and quick "Heeyaah!!"

"Alright Calypso, charge up and give it a shocking Thunder Bolt!" Liam commanded. Calypso revved up quickly and discharged a large lightning bolt toward the Roggenrola.

Aleria smiled, feeling slightly better now that she knew that Liam and his Arcanine weren't too bothered by the fact that the Magby had been so stubborn. Maybe the Magby did have a bad day. Who knows? Whatever it was, the Magby was gone now, and they had a new problem to face: the Roggenrola that Liam was going to attempt to catch. Liam decided to take the advantageous route by sending out a purple star Pokemon with a red jewel in the center of its body. The Starmie had a type advantage over the little Roggenrola, not to mention it was bigger, faster, and stronger than the little rock that had wiggled away from it's not so lively companions.

There was a sudden, weak bolt of lightning that struck the Roggenrola, dazing it for a moment as it stumbled out of its so called hiding place. It didn't seem too bothered by the lightning bolt, and Aleria could see why. Being a rock, Roggenrola wouldn't be too affected by it. From what she could see, it wasn't paralyzed either from the lightning bolt (though it was still a possibility being that Roggenrola were only Rock types, not dual Rock and Ground types), and Aleria wasn't sure if it was a bad thing or a good thing.

She was going to go with bad though.

There was a black hole in the center of its body that Aleria assumed was its mouth. Whatever it was though, it kicked up a sandstorm just by blowing air (and some sand) out of its rugged body. Al had to shield her face to keep the sand out of her eyes, taking care to be able to see what was going on. While Liam seemed like a trustworthy guy, you could never tell what was going to happen when a ranger turned their back. It was Al's first day on the job, and she didn't quite wish to lose it just yet. And then there was a sudden, blinding flash of light that forced Aleria to shield her eyes for just a second. By the time she'd uncovered her eyes, the light was gone and Starmie had been knocked over. She glanced over to Liam, nodding to the Roggenrola. "I think it's using its surroundings to its advantage. That Sandstorm can be potentially threatening, and it looks like it just used Flash Cannon."

((So sorry it's been a year... and male on the rock))

Liam squinted his eyes and held his arms up in the air to protect himself from the sandstorm being brewed by the small rock Pokemon. Suddenly there was a flash of light and he saw Calypso hit the ground quite hard. "I think it's using its surroundings to its advantage. That Sandstorm can be potentially threatening, and it looks like it just used Flash Cannon." Al said and Liam nodded. Liam thought carefully; his most prized Pokemon was being beaten by this basic Roggenrola. He still remembers receiving Calypso as a Staryu when we was a young lad from his father. It was his first Pokemon, and they had so many adventures: finding Nike the Growlithe and catching him in the wild, having Calypso pick out Jason the Eevee in a market place, and even winning their first gym battle against the island of Dewford. It pained Liam to see Calypso in a situation like this.

"Alright Calypso," Liam said with determination, "Blow this Sandstorm away with a Rapid Spin!" Calypso stood up from the rock, and hearing Laim's enthusiastic voice cried out another "Heeeyyaah!" as it spun up is the air, making a small cyclone dispersing some of the sand. The cloud somewhat lifted and the Roggenrola seemed to have been caught unawares. Calypso halted its spinning and was now facing the small rock Pokemon whilst still in the air. Liam noticed this and decided to take advantage of it. "Calypso dive into the water behind the Roggenrola!" Before Calypso fell to the ground via gravity, it used the last bit of the Rapid Spin's momentum to launch itself over the Roggenrola and into the small lake behind.

The Roggenrola kept it's black hole fixated on Calypso as it launched itself over to the lake. Liam smiled as Calypso splashed in the water. The lake was still; the intensity of the battle had a sudden, eerie halt. Liam was proud of his Starmie and it showed as he took in a deep breath, puffing out his chest while rolling his shoulders back and raising his chin. Then he shouted, "Perfect, now quickly, come out of the lake using a Surf attack on the Roggenrola!"

A shadow from the middle of the lake glided toward the shore. As it approached, a bump in the water latitude to Calypso started to rise until Calypso broke from it riding an even larger, growing wave. It seemed enormous because the lake itself was shallow in this area even though the wave was only about 7 feet high, but it was still an intimidating force. Calypso slammed the wave down on the ground in front of the Roggenrola sweeping it off its feet in a large splash; inundating the shoreline up to Liam and Al soaking their feet up to their ankles. Nike, who had been sitting this whole time behind Liam, had scurried further back as the water came to them. Liam realized this was a poor situation for Nike, and brought out his Pokeball; pointing it at Nike Laim commanded, "Return Nike, thanks for your help earlier, you were great, but I don't want you getting injured in the crossfire." A stream of red light jetted out of the Pokeball and returned the large, fire dog Pokemon as the water reseated from Liam's and Al's feet.

There was an eerily long silence between the time Roggenrola and Starmie had initially acted and the time that the next moves were given. It was like time had stopped. Maybe Liam was some sort of time mage. That would be pretty cool. 'Get out of Fantasy Land, Aleria. You're on the job,' the voice inside her head said to her. She was on the job, yes. Though it felt like time had stopped, the raging sandstorm never did. It just continued to rage endlessly.

Would this sandstorm ever end? The world would never know.

Or maybe they would. Liam finally spoke up, giving a new command to his Starmie. A Rapid Spin to disperse the sand. Aleria nodded approvingly, peering above the shield her arm provided from the sand. Starmie was eager to fight back as it leaped up and started spinning around, increasing in speed as it hovered in the air. The sand formed a cyclone around the Starmie, and then suddenly Starmie tackled the Roggenrola, knocking the small, black rock over. The sand had dispersed a bit, but it formed more of a sand tornado around the group. It wasn't enough to completely get rid of the sandstorm; it was still much too strong for that, but it was enough to keep it from harming Starmie any more for the time being. It was also enough for Aleria to lower her arm. Sand wouldn't get in her eyes as long as the sand formed a tornado around the group.

The momentum from tackling the Roggenrola was enough to allow Starmie to launch itself in the lake behind the rock-like Pokemon. There was a bit of a splash as Starmie dove into the sparkling blue water. Roggenrola brought himself back to his feet, the black hole that was likely his single eye fixated on the lake behind him. The small rock-like Pokemon crouched down, bracing himself for whatever attack would come his way, and as he was crouched down, what little sun that shone through the sandstorm glistened off of his shining body.

"Iron Defense," Aleria commented after Liam had called out the next attack. "Won't help much with the Surf that you just called out, but it might keep it from losing focus."

Starmie traveled underneath the water, somehow magically pushing the water up to form the wave that would ultimately crash into the ground in front of the Roggenrola. It managed to make Roggenrola topple over and float away from the lake, closer to Liam, his Arcanine, and Aleria. Aleria and Arcanine moved back away from the water as it drifted towards the trainers and Pokemon, though Liam was quick to return his Arcanine to the Poke Ball. Fire types didn't like water, and neither did Aleria. The only difference was one could be put back in a Poke Ball and the other couldn't.

But Roggenrola's body had drifted in just a way that its black eye, or whatever that black hole in the middle of the deep blue rock was, was facing Starmie. It glowed for just a moment, and several of the smaller rocks within the sand tornado glowed as well. When the light from Roggenrola's black hole faded away, the glowing rocks crashed into Starmie, injuring the starfish. Through the attack, Roggenrola was able to bring himself back to his feet.

"Earth Power," Aleria commented. "Looks like it was meant to be more of a diversion though so that he could get back on his feet." Aleria shrugged. This Roggenrola had an odd battle style, she could say that much.

"Earth Power," Al said as Starmie was bombarded by the glowing rocks. The Roggenrola squirmed to its feet as Al continued, "looks like it was meant to be more of a diversion though so that he could get back on his feet." Liam let out a puff of air form his nostrils as he smiled. He admired the quirkiness of the little rock Pokemon, but he was also ready to end the battle.

"Alright Calypso, you're doing great!" Liam shouted. He noticed Calypso was looking a bit shaky and had a few scratches; he knew it had been a bit of a battle for his most prized Pokemon. Calypso shook to get the remaining dust off of it from the previous Earth Power attack as Liam cried out, "Let yourself shine and get back some health with Recover!" The giant starfish Pokemon responded with a quick nod and started illuminating. I shone bright like a star in the sky, which was ironic as it was a star from the sea. Liam squinted his eyes a bit as the light from Calypso's recover was a little intense, but he made sure to keep an eye on the Roggenrola and his Starmie.

Calypso ceased shining with a final flex and most of its scratches and abnormal marks had gone. Liam could tell Calypso was feeling refreshed as well, almost like it was at the beginning of the battle. "Great Calypso! Now finish off the Roggenrola with an Ice Beam attack! Try to freeze it in place so we can catch it!" Again the violet starfish Pokemon nodded and gave out another "Hyyyeaa!" It lunged its top arm forward shooting out a frozen beam that was an intense shade of light blue at the Roggenrola.

Starmie shone with a bright light, the red jewel in the center of its body shining the brightest red of them all. Roggenrola ducked its body, preparing for an attack maybe, or just shielding its eye from the bright light that blinded him. When the light stopped shining, Roggenrola looked up and hiccuped. Once. Twice. Three times. All three times, a rock would be released from its mouth and launched straight towards Starmie. It caught the starfish off guard the first time, but the following two times, it was more steady.

It was during the second and third time it got beat with a rock that it prepared to launch an ice beam. The tip of one of its arms, or legs, whatever you wanted to call them really, took on a pale blue glow, and then it let out a cool beam of energy that struck the Roggenrola. When the bit of steam faded away from the attack (as the area was rather warm and the cool attack allowed steam to rise up in the air), the Roggenrola's feet were frozen to the ground. He struggled to move, but frowned when he couldn't move at all.

"Roggen," the Pokemon said in frustration. He wiggled around a bit, trying to loosen his feet from the ice.

"He might break free sooner or later, but I'm not quite sure when," Aleria commented. "Hope you've got a plan."

Liam winced when Calypso was struck by the first Rock Blast, more so because his eyes were fixated on Calypso as it dazzled the scene in its bright light. "You're doing great!" Liam encouraged as Calypso shot out its frozen Ice Beam attack. He could her sizzling as the surroundings became enveloped in steam. As it cleared he could see the silhouette of the Roggenrola struggling to move. It's feet were frozen. 'Perfect!' Liam thought to himself.

"He might break free sooner or later, but I'm not quite sure when," Aleria commented. "Hope you've got a plan."

Liam nodded as he quickly commanded, "Calypso, this is the perfect opportunity to hit it with a Hydro Pump attack!" His violet sea star Pokemon jumped in the air, throwing its arms back while it strutted its red gem in front of it. It gave out another glorious "Hyyyeeeaaa!" and lunged its top arm forward spouting out an enormous geyser of water at the feet-frozen rock Pokemon.

"Alright now, Roggenrola, I know this battle may seem like its taken a year or so, and I'm sure you're tired, I know Calypso and I are, so let's end this! Go Pokeball!" Liam reached for one of the empty Pokeballs on his belt and enlarged it. He took aim, the threw it at the weakened boulder Pokemon. Liam crossed his fingers and bit his lower lip in anticipation of the capture.

Liam wasted no time in telling his Starmie to use a Hydro Pump on the Roggenrola. It was too focused on trying to break its feet free than anything else, so it didn't see the powerful stream of water coming until it was too late. Roggenrola took a Hydro Pump to the face.

The force of the attack, however, was enough to break Roggenrola's feet free from the ice. The small rock toppled over as a result.

Roggenrola had no time to recover as a Poke Ball soared through the air and hit it, absorbing it with the typical red light. The ball shook three times without even hesitating much, and then it clicked not long after the third shake. Aleria approached the ball and picked it up as the sandstorm came to a sudden halt. "Roggenrola must've been really out of it in order to be caught that easily. Nice work." She turned back around to face Liam as she put the ball in her bag. "You've got two Pokemon caught now. You can still catch one more if you'd like. Did you want to keep looking around to see what there was left to offer here? We can rest first if you'd like too, of course. It's up to you."

Liam bit his lower lip a bit and clenched his hands in anticipation for the Roggenrola that he's been battling for what seemed to be over a year, rolled on the ground inside the Pokeball Liam threw. It clicked and Liam pumped his fist to his side as he exclaimed in triumph, "Alright!" He dashed over to Calypso who was tired, but not exhausted from the battle. He picked it from and hugged his beautiful starfish Pokemon; pulled it away from him a bit and said, "You did great Calypso, but I think now you should take a rest in your Pokeball." The Starmie, dripping with sand sprinkled water droplets, gave out another "Hyyyeeeaah!"

Liam unclipped the Pokeball that dangled around his neck and enlarged it. He returned his favorite Pokemon in a flash of red light as he heard Al say, "You've got two Pokemon caught now. You can still catch one more if you'd like. Did you want to keep looking around to see what there was left to offer here? We can rest first if you'd like too, of course. It's up to you."

"Yea," Liam said taking a breath to relax, "yea, I think I'll keep going. I'll give Calypso a break for now, hopefully if anything comes up Jason could take over, as it's been a while since he's seen action." Liam smiled showing dazzling white teeth, the still going through the euphoric sense of capturing a second Pokemon. Then, while still in his high of happiness, he said, "Oh, and thanks again Al, for going through Mt. Dekbi with me so I can catch these little buggers."

The ranger smiled as her trainer and his Pokemon celebrated in their second capture. It was good to see trainers celebrating in that fashion. Better than seeing the trainer punish the Pokemon for not doing well in battle. He returned the starfish to the Poke Ball that hung from a necklace around his neck.

"Yea," Liam replied when she asked if he'd continue on or stop here. "Yea, I think I'll keep going. I'll give Calypso a break for now, hopefully if anything comes up Jason could take over, as it's been a while since he's seen action."

Aleria nodded. "No problem," she replied to his thankfulness for being his ranger for the day. "It's my job," she added with a chuckle. Jason was his Jolteon if she remembered correctly. He had a brief appearance versus a Vulpix earlier on in the park, but that was about it. She led Liam on the path, eventually entering a small cave that was barely lit. Aleria released her Chandelure to provide some light in the dimly lit cave. Though they could see the exit of the cave easily (making it more like a tunnel than a cave), the lights at the either end of the tunnel weren't enough to illuminate it completely. Chandelier helped with that some.

The flash of light was blinding for a bit, and Aleria was forced to shield her eyes for a moment. When she was able to lower her arms, Chandelier's flames illuminated a small fox that sat calmly on the ground, peering up at Al's Fire type. "It's another Vulpix. Must be hiding in the tunnel for some reason. You caught one earlier, but I have to ask anyways. Did you want a second Vulpix?"

They strode along the path toward what seemed to look like a cave. Liam took in the outside scenery a bit as they neared the entrance. He was still smiling and running on a high of accomplishment as they entered the dim cave, which then turned out to be a tunnel. Al had let her Chandelier out and Liam admired it's glow and rarity. 'She must be a good and experienced trainer if she has one on those.' But before Liam could complement the fire/ghost Pokemon a flash had startled him and they stopped. The light from Al's Chandelier illuminated a small red fox Pokemon, just like the one he already caught.

"It's another Vulpix. Must be hiding in the tunnel for some reason. You caught one earlier, but I have to ask anyways. Did you want a second Vulpix?" Al said as Liam pondered why the little guy was hanging out in the tunnel. Maybe they accidentally scared it in there from his previous battle with Roggenrola. The battle did span a wide range with the Surf attack and the Sandstorm.

"Nah," Liam said. "I'm okay with one; don't want to become a hoarder now do I?" Liam huffed air in a small laugh then turned to look at the Vulpix. "Sorry if we scared you in here lil' guy; we'll just be one our way, okay?" He looked up at Al and signaled with his head that he wished to move on.

She chuckled. Hoarding was a silly concept, and she really couldn't understand why anyone would do it. What was the purpose behind it? Aleria shrugged a bit. Maybe it was just something she'd never understand.

At least Liam was leaving this little guy for someone else. "Okay," Aleria replied. She nodded to Chandelier, who led the way, floating over the Vulpix, who just watched as its fellow Fire type floated above it. Aleria followed after her Pokemon, and she gestured for Liam to come along too. Vulpix just kept its eyes fixated on the Chandelure, making no motions to run up to it and attack or do anything at all really.

They were able to exit the tunnel, and when they did, the path sloped downwards. It wasn't a steep slope, but it was a casual enough one to where they could walk at a regular pace. There were a few dead bushes along the path. Aleria stopped when she spotted a small orange Pokemon with a large mouth. The Trapinch was nibbling on the twigs of the dead bush it was standing near, and it paid no attention to Aleria, her Chandelure, or Liam as when they stopped. "Interested in a Trapinch?"

Liam left the tunnel fallowing Al as he watched the Vulpix stay behind in wonderment of Al's Chandelier. They walked threw the exit of the tunnel and into a small clearing with dried bushes and grass. Liam took a deep breath of the fresh air, heated from the volcanic surroundings. He heard a bit of a rustle from a bush as Al said, "Interested in a Trapinch?"

Liam looked at the moving bush, peering through it trying to focus on what was behind it. There sat a little maroon ant-like Pokemon with black beady eyes and a large jaw; nibbling on some bare twigs from a bush the Trapinch made some cute grunting noises. Liam smiled in appreciation oh how adorable it was and said, "Not really, it's cute I'll give it that, but let's see what else we can find." Liam started to take a step as a memory came back to him. "Oh, and let's try to be a bit swift, before it's Arena Trap keeps us." Liam's next step was smooth, yet controlled to keep quiet.
