Bracket all the way. Ladders and activity based tourneys get stale really quickly again and again.

Doubles to mirror the recent VGC would be cool, but so would inverse, but you might have to ban things in Inverse. iirc normal and ice types were really OP, not sure if the same would be true here though

A World Cup style arrangement could work, everyone gets put in a group and you battle the others in your group once each. 2 points for a win, top of each group advances to knockout stage. Everyone gets to battle more than once, everybody happy.

And Doubles tourney cause bulky as hell Pachirisu.

bracket tournaments are like universally better, I also want to do GBA. not voting for doubles though in a theoretical vote because I don't like thinking about doing double battles lol

I dont see the issue with bracket; it's more organized anyway. I think Inverse and Doubles would be simplest, while budget and and GBA might want to wait for a more active time (schools are starting soon) to be started.

DP was prob the best of the activity based ones. I wouldn't really mind that tbh but I'd prefer a bracket right now cause school's prob starting up for most people within next few weeks ;9

What about a doubles tourney that was also GBA? That makes it arguably more reffable (which is the doubles big problem afaik) and doubles is completely different than singles so people can try cool strategies like the VGC battlers do

Pffff, who needs to be creative like the Masters and Senior winners? You can just go with OP stuff.

I actually just thought of a nifty idea for a tournament.

Participants choose a team of however many Pokemon (most likely 6, but whatever the tourney rules end up being), for the purpose of this post we'll say 6, and whatever 6 Pokemon they choose, they have to use those same 6 Pokemon in every battle they're in. There's a catch though. Refs would have to make note of the percentages of the Pokemon that participated in the battle. Your Pokemon wouldn't be healed at the end of the battle like they normally are. You can switch Pokemon after it's been KO'd, but you can't switch if something in your party's still alive.

Kinda like a Nuzlocke, I guess, but you don't have to restart if all your party Pokemon faint, & you don't have to release things if they get KO'd either. If all that makes sense, ahaha.

Not even kidding I had this same exact idea last night .__. I have notes to prove it :p

Anyways, as for # of pokes I think it should be twelve that you get to start with, that way each competitor atleast has a shot at redemption if they lose a 6v6 right off the bat

Great minds think alike. :0 Could have a set number of Pokemon you could submit for usage, & once that Pokemon gets KO'd, you can no longer use it in the tourney.

At the beginning of the summer I mentioned the Park Run tourney idea, where you catch mons on a run and then do a tournament with them (Round Robin or Single elimination depending on numbers). A few things I've thought about since then.

    a) Battles done with Pokémon captured in the park could either contribute towards their evolution for the tourney or, if fully evolved, could add EMs into their moveset or something.

    b) Quests: so little sub-plots that you could potentially complete for Pokémon or for money/park items/EMs.

Anyone still up for this? Winter mentioned that AUTUMN is the best time for this sort of thing, so if anyone is then now would be a good time to do it.

I think it'd be cool if it was done like a safari style event where you are rolled 8-12 Pokemon from a certain park area of your choosing and then you get a pool with the fully evolved stage of these mons with all EMs. Then you battle opponents with these mons and winners get to keep 1-2 of their rolled mons.

Doing an actual park run or even a simplified one would result in a tourney that ended up spanning months most likely

Expanding on the Nuzlocke tourney idea since it was discussed briefly in the URPG Chat, & apparently people want a tourney. Hopefully my brain dump makes sense, but if not, sorry. :c I'll try to explain whatever doesn't make sense if you ask though!!! I tend to understand what I say better than other people anyways, ahahha.

    • Participants would have to submit a total of X Pokemon when signing up. X is a number to be determined, probably something along the lines of 12-18. There may or may not be an entry fee, but if there is, it would be the generic 10k like in previous tourneys.

    • My idea is for it to start as an activity based tournament. There would be a 2 week period where people battle whoever has signed up; if you sign up, you must battle if you're free to do so, similar to how battles worked in WAR or how gym battles work. Those that battle will get to go onto a ladder, while those that fail to do so will be knocked out of the tourney & will not receive their entry fee back, if there is one. At the end of each battle, all Pokemon that weren't KO'd will be fully healed in order to create a level playing field for all participants.

    • The ladder will be divided up into two separate groups: those that have at least one Pokemon remaining & those that had all of their Pokemon KO'd in the two week period. All Pokemon will be healed for this round. The top X battlers (X because we don't know how many people will be participating) from each ladder will go onto the final round: the bracket. If you lose all of your Pokemon during the ladder, they will be revived; perhaps implement a cost for this that will be refunded with the entry fee upon elimination. Losing all of your Pokemon during the ladder does not prevent you from going onto the bracket, so long as you do well on the ladder. At the end of a battle, any surviving Pokemon will be fully healed to create a level playing field. This phase will last two weeks.

    • The final phase will be the bracket style tourney. As stated above, the top X battlers from each ladder will move onto the bracket. The preferred method of match ups will be to randomly pair someone from Ladder 1 with someone from Ladder 2. In the event that's not possible, all matches will be randomly chosen. For this phase, participants will be forced to choose 6 Pokemon (but can be dropped to 4 if people would prefer) to use in the bracket tourney. For each time you lose all of your Pokemon in the ladder phase, regardless of whether or not you revive them, one of your 6 Pokemon will be randomly selected for you from the pool you posted at the beginning. All Pokemon being used in this will be fully healed at the end of each battle so as to promote a level playing field for all participants. Bracket is single elimination, unless there is high demand for a double elimination tourney. Each round for this phase will last one week, and progression rules from previous tourneys will apply: the more active player will move on, & the less active one will be eliminated.

    • Refs will not need to keep track of HP at the end of each battle, but they will need to note which Pokemon were KO'd in their logs up until we reach the bracket phase.

    • It is possible to request people try to submit one of each type at the beginning, therefore requiring an original pool of at least 18. This may exclude players that have a limited number of Pokemon and not something from each type. If we do a pool of 18, we can strongly recommend that people submit one of each type. Perhaps some sort of bonus for those that do?

This may sound super complicated, & it sounds like it may take a while, but hopefully once we get to the bracket, things should speed up, especially if everyone completes their battles in a timely manner. It's a less traditional tourney too, but it sounds like people don't really want full on bracket tourneys either, & while this has a bracket, it's not full on bracket like the previous tourneys.

EDIT: Not really super Nuzlocke, but Nuzlocke-ish? I dunno.

@Felly; I think this is a pretty amazing idea. One thing I might say is, rather than your system for doing battles, would be to do a system of average Pokémon KO'd per battle, or something that takes activity into account, because, as far as I understand it, I could do one battle, scrape a win and then automatically go to the top ladder.

We could set a minimum number of battles necessary to have participated in to progress to the top ladder. I'd say 5 minimum in a two week period would make the most sense, but that can be increased or lowered. Those that don't participate in the minimum number of battles get sent to the bottom ladder; from there, if you fail to participate, you could be eliminated anyways. Obviously if you participate in 5+ battles & then lose all your Pokemon, you still get sent to the second ladder, but you have a bit more of an advantage than those that barely participated at all in the activity based phase, & those that barely participate in the activity phase probably won't do much in the ladder either.
