Tournament Ideas

We have Park events for specialized things like that.

MCR to capture mons is already below (and way below, like Porygon) Story requirements for capture. Some argue that it's also easier to use the Park because if you're not a jerk, you will probably catch the mon, unlike stories that can fail. Last time the Park was deemed too easy, there was a massive recall and everyone lost every Pokemon they captured from the Park. Lowering MCR is not really an option as its already considered pretty easy.

Edit: And our busiest times in the Park is in the Fall/Winter season (in US, around September to December), once people are settled down back into school routines and can make time/are around computers a lot more often.

 

Okay, seem like valid points, still I think it would be a feasible idea (also, hypothetically you wouldn't even have to do them at the same time, you could just have a one-month Park Run over the year and at the end of the year battle with the Pokémon caught).

 

So yeah, GBA tourney. Still willing to host that.

 

also bear in mind that only three Pokemon can be caught in a Park Run at a time. I supposed it could be increased for the purpose of the tourney; but that's up to Winter and Monbrey! I think you're idea is pretty interesting!

 

Enigma Ruins and other Endurance runs are 4 mons able to be taken out.

 

I think that catching much more than three in a month would be very demanding anyways so it might only be a 4v4 tourney.

 

so me and a few other people where discussing the idea of having our own URPG WAR. and we thought it could be fun to have team based draft tourney. with some of the experienced Urpg battlers picking the teams. and since its a draft the teams are likely to be fairly even.

i'm not sure how the tournament would be done or what sort of rules should be made. i just wanted to see if that was something anyone else thought could be cool.

 

This is maybe a liiitle off topic, but I have some sort of follow up to this. This team system could be so much bigger and more integrated into URPG. At this point with established URPG members, we could get drafted into teams (genericish names, like Red/Blue/Green/Yellow or Rocket/Magma/Aqua - something to give a sense of team identity without any in-jokes ie Octopus Babies so as not to exclude potential new members) and we remain in these teams for most of our URPG careers. Team tournaments can use these teams, as can things like Risk or team contests in the other sections like writing and the park. Players could be traded and stuff, like proper sports teams (but not during tournaments as so not to affect prizes). Leaderboards could be kept to see which team is superior and gets the bragging rights - though I guess yearly prizes could be shared out to the best team.

Obviously problems include general balancing with the hiatus' of old members and beginnings of new trainers but I'm sure something could be solved.

I probably worded this super badly but I feel like it could work.

EDIT: I can probably do a more formal write up for this where everything is worded more coherently, but I probably don't have the time tonight. I was just pretty much spitting up my thoughts as they came.

 

does anyone have an idea for a simple tournament that we can do assuming none is planned now basics is over?

 

While not extremely simple a Budget tournament would be nice.

okay I think the following 3 would be cool in order of coolness:

1. FFA Tourny, but gotta find someone to run it.

2. With contests about to get rebooted with new remakes maybe do a contest double pay now or once all that stuff comes out? You could do like Keldeo Tourny for contests pretty much. Or also BW Contests seem underutilized

3. Inverse seems cool

I just think we could use a break from bracket tournys tbh lol

Anyway, I really don't mind what tournaments get run. FFA Tourneys are popular but some of the rules people use get ridiculously overcomplicated.

Arguably not enough judges for something on the scale of Keldeo - we tried that for the grand festival last year and very little got done over a three week period. Possibly in the future though - for now, I've got a tournament planned for contests in the next few weeks. A double pay thing might be cool when ORAS come out though.

While some kind of ladder would also be cool, there might not be the demand for it after the kinda-failure of our most recent ladder and so soon after WAR. In addition, I'm hoping to get some once a month/two months WAR-esque events going once clans are up (hopefully in October) which might tide your appetite.

I'm up for budget tourney again btw

So if we do doubles or inverse or whatever, is it generally agreed not to be a bracket tourney? And if so, how do you want to score it? Ladders don't always generate much interest.
