Too many Pokemon in the Pokemart?

Actually, I think the section that would get the most benefit from this would be the Park, which I think is a good thing.

Think about it, usually people go to the Park and they get 15 encounters, but they only ever want like 2/3 Pokemon that are actually in that area. The reason for that is that the Park is flooded with Pokemon from the Pokemart. Why would someone go through the effort of doing a Park encounter (and wastingone of three captures) on a Pokemon they can much more easily buy from the Mart? I think that if these changes were implemented then you wouldn't get Park runs of people literally throwing Pokedolls down for 12 out of their 15 encounters.

I think doing this just raises the value of all of the Pokemon that are in the Mart, currently. I think that the battling section of the URPG has always been the most thriving, but I don't think it has to be. Also, okay 5k characters is literally nothing... I've probably made Trainer Court posts that are longer than that. It isn't as though we're suggesting making every single Pokemon Merciless category. Just encouraging members to try new things.

Honestly, I probably would've gotten more involved in the story section if more Pokemon had only been available that way. I've always thought the story sections was really cool, but I never thought I could commit to anything more than a Simple ranked Pokemon. Plus, as a ref, there was never really any incentive for me to write for a Simple Mart Pokemon because if I refbot I can easily make the amount guaranteed (where as story / art could fail). Giving me more Pokemon to actually aim for would just give new members more goals, more reasons to be creative. I know this sounds very rose-tinted glasses-esque, but I honestly think that this will improve the URPG. Plus, it would encourage more trading, more story/art deals, which means more interaction between players.

Also, honestly, when was the last time you saw anybody buy a Ledyba/Wingull from the mart, regardless of their tenure with the URPG? They just aren't popular Pokemon, within reason, it doesn't matter how easily available we make them, new members will still probably jump for more marketed/competitive Pokemon*. I don't think saying that some weak Pokemon should be available to the newbies, just in case they want them, is really a good point, at all. Like why should Vullaby be anymore available than say Murkrow. I don't think there is any consistency at all with this type of logic. Furthermore, there are Pokemon that are more difficult to obtain (cost more) and are less competitively viable than others in the Mart, so where do they fit in? (See: Pan-Monkeys 9k vs Togepi-6.5). Right now, the Pokemart lacks any form of consistency, which is what I think is the 2nd major reason for change (the first being what I said above about stories/park/art). Doing this change will create a more obvious approach and an approach that is more reflective of the Pokemon games we are trying to emulate.

*(Though, some Pokemon actually have some pretty interesting niches that people miss out on (for example I've started using Cofagrigus and it has worked wonderfully for me, or Armaldo as a Swift Swim Sweeper, etc.) [Hopefully you will all learn about new Pokemon in the upcoming Battle Factory Tournament!!!!] )

Except for how I don't have a signature type. Much like the Pokemart, I am inconsistent. You do have a strong point though, but you narrowed down the list of Marts by specialising it which is quite misleading. I have probably 15-20 Marts out of 126, the majority being of the 53 we should keep anyway.

I don't really have time to expand on anything right now, but I agree completely with Smores on pretty much all of his points. Sure Ledyba is bought more often by newer people, but it's been purchased maybe 3 times ever in 15 years. If people want a Pokemon really badly that they can't buy, they will get it by other means (see: feng and Dunsparce). Newer players do want the starters and pseudolegends a lot more than the casual Simples and those Pokemon will still be available.

While I do like the Park, pretty much everyone agrees it's been reduced to 12+ Pokedolls per completed run. Event items and different types of runs allow the player to take out more than three Pokemon and there's no limit to how many Pokemon you can catch in the Park.

If these changes had happened before the BMG branch it wouldn't have affected us greatly. I don't think anyone who would have otherwise stuck around would have suddenly left because Wingull (or so on) wasn't a Mart Pokemon. I really only see this as a positive step towards Park/Stories/Art and the like, rather than personal gain or anything silly like that.

Those events would be great for people who join immediately after PXR branch opens and are eligible for it. Now what about every other new player to join for the entire rest of the future of URPG? I'll have more to say on this later.

As someone who actually is new, not you guys getting all hypothetical about new people, please don't take too many Pokémon out of the Mart. It's very helpful and supportive to new members. Think about my Pokémon. I have three.

    One is my starter. (Florges)
One I caught through a story because I wanted to test my writing skills, knowing that if I was unsuccessful I could buy it at the mart. (Flygon)
And the last one I did buy from the mart. (Chinchou)

So, except for my starter which was given to me free when I started, I owe my Pokémon so far to the Mart.

This is super random and not really touched on, but I fought super hard to keep Bunnelby out of the PokeMart when we were integrating Generation VI because Diggersby is literally the only new non-Legendary Ground-type Pokemon. I still stand by that.

/me ponders if there's any connection to Winter having a Ground gym at the time.

    1) I was against Bunnelby being Mart too.

    2) Had already decided to give up Driftveil at that time.

Yes, but I didn't want to speak for you, you haven't liked me doing that in the past.

Yes, because every single fucking decision I make in life involves Winter in some way. There are absolutely no other things I think about, like type balance and making type sets that slight bit harder to complete.

So, I'm a little confused. There seems to be a desire for type balance in representation in the Pokemart, and also a desire for type balance in absence from the Pokemart.

I don't really see how any system could hold any apparent consistency under these two very opposing guidelines.

    @Chainy: It was joking/sarcastic...

@Elamite: I think that it's supposed to be proportional to the number of Pokémon of the type, though some types like Dragon would then admittedly fail that quite epically. It's mathematically possible though for (random numbers being used) (≈)40% of each type to be available in the Pokémart while the other (≈)60% is absent. It's not necessarily the case, but the two systems aren't contradictory if it's percentage based and not quantity based.

@ChainReaction01 ; If the reasoning for not having Bunnelby is some kind of flawed pseudo-type-imbalance, that's pretty weak dude. Also, learn to take a joke. No panties needed to be twisted (this time!)

@Peaceful Giraffe ; Thank you for the input! Getting experience from mewer members is pretty helpful I admit.

I'm still of the mind that the Mart should be reduced down to the 53 or less by the PXR expansion. Maybe a sort of trial run can be underdone where the Mart is reduced for say the first few weeks of PXR? If it generates more stories/art pieces and people seem to prefer it, then we keep it. Otherwise we revert back to the original. Seems a pretty good compromise imo!

Well, maybe it is a good idea.

I bought 3 of my 5 Pokémon via mart (one starter, and one via story). That costs a little bit...

Then the battles on AIM died down a bit, and I don't have much money now.

    Mart Pokémon eat money like candy! {{.}}_{{.}}

I'm not against a trial run I guess. What you've suggested is fine if its successful. Otherwise, the opening of a new branch is possibly the single WORST time to do that if the trial ISNT successful.

I also still think that the proposed new list of Pokemon is incredibly stale anyway. Starters, Pseudos, birds etc. Its highly categorised and offers nothing interesting or unique to new players. You're removing all the variety.

I think it's the best time for a trial run. If it doesn't work out, it'll be a great present for them a month into the URPG to have a ton more Pokemon available to buy. Important to remember that the best Pokemon in the URPG are marts that will remain in the Mart.

Starters, Eevee and the Pseudos are pretty much a given. Early route rodents/birds could be removed yeah, same with fossils to make UG a little more worthwhile. I don't think a bit of variety is a bad thing, but having only one Pokemon of a pair (Grimer not Muk, Misdreavus not Murkrow) is pretty lame. Keeping the babies wouldn't be a bad idea either imo. Some randoms like Ditto should be included too I think.

They won't be in the URPG after a month if they don't like how they start out.

Grimer evolves into Muk. I'm guessing you meant Koffing. Again, you're enforcing rules on what has to be there. Why do Pokemon need to be in pairs? Its just random variety. Plus, not all pairs are equal.

I'm not suggesting we do, but if you want people to be using creativity to get Pokemon instead of the Pokemart, the best Pokémon to remove to encourage that would be Torchic and Dratini. Leaving the best ones there is good for new players, they're easily accessible. But without all the others, that's going to be a much narrower metagame for new players.

Personally, I think that the Mart Pokemon could be thinned out a little, but I feel like this complete overhaul is a little unnecessary.

Once is a funny joke. Twice is a coincidence. Thrice is a warning that I'm apparently very one dimensional.

What's wrong with wanting type balance, and what's flawed about my perspective? It was just my opinion that with the new Generation, every Type should have at least one Pokemon that isn't in the Mart, and since Diggersby is the only new Ground-type, Bunnelby by default cannot be in the Mart. How is that illogical?

Because other people WANTED it to be in the Pokemart, therefore your logic is completely flawed.
