Bouncing a little bit off of what Monbrey said (and others before), I think there is a very easy solution to the Badge Transition. It's solved because of the Regional/Type League System and wouldn't work if we went purely with a Type League System.

    Elite 4 Challenge Requirements
    • You must have completed 2 (3?) Leagues in order to challenge the Elite 4.
    • Completing a League consists of earning at least six (6) badges within that League.
    • Completion of the Orange Islands League does not count towards the Elite 4 Challenge Requirements.
    • URPG Members who qualified to challenge the Elite 4 previously, are still considered to be eligible to challenge the Elite 4.

    Equitable Badge Transition Proposal
    • URPG Members retain the badges that they currently have.
    • These badges count towards the number of badges required to complete a league.
    • If a member has more badges in a League then the minimum six badges, those badges are retained. If the Leagues are ever expanded to include more gyms, these badges will still count towards the total number of badges required to complete a League.

Because we merged the Regional System with the Type System, we created an easier way to continue to count the current badges. This creates a fair way to allow members to retain their badges and to have them still count towards the ultimate goal of challenging the Elite 4.

The idea here is that we're not really creating a new system, merely transforming parts of an old one. Change is necessary and good for any community, and Change grounded by familiarity and fairness is even better. We can move forward knowing that we both honor the past and embrace the future.

    And no wildcards.

Given that we seem agreed on your proposal Harry, I can implement this with the addition of the Kalos gyms.

So people will now need 12 or 16 badges to challenge the elite 4? But at least we'll keep the badges that we already have. Although I don't agree on the three leagues needed, two could be pretty doable, while still being an increase from the normal 8 now.

Two leagues, under the new system, would be 12 badges.
@Elamite; I didn't mention this earlier, I'm still in favour of revised gym payments. I suggested going with the normal rate per size, with a bonus $1,000 for the winner.

    I prefer the old 2k/1k.

That makes a 6v6 gym battle no different to a regular 6v6. This would be 3k/1k.

It makes 3v3/4v4 2k/1k, which is what most gyms use. I guess the pay could vary, but before the change to 3k/1.5k, 2k/1k had worked out quite well for many years.

3v3 would be 2k/500. 4v4 and 5v5 would be 2.5k/750. Your math confuses me.

We put it up to 3k/1.5k to encourage gym battling. That worked. However Elamite mentioned that it also encouraged LOSING gym battles. Which doesn't really work.

Okay, so the one thing that's been on my mind ever since this whole conversation started is what happens to current rentals? I know all of us are going to get booted and have to reapply, so does that mean we practically lose the EMs we've put on rental Pokemon the same way we would if we had dropped the gym?

No, I meant if we just reverted back to everything being 2k/1k, but your suggestion might be better actually. Purposefully losing gym battles kinda sucks.

I would like to know this, too. I didn't really pay for much on my rental team, but I know others have.

One solution I could see, is giving out a move ticket based on what is taught to the rentals. A TM ticket for TMs(based off of how much the TM is worth in the Market now), a daycare/MT pass for Breeding moves/MTs, and a DreamWorld pass for hidden abilities. I think that would be more useful than anything else without just giving out cash, which could go towards anything else randomly and could make it so that if they want to change TMs or other EMs on their rentals, they can.

Only other way I see it being okay is just literally copying and pasting what they had into the new system, but that seems like more of a hassle.

Or just retain rentals. Pretty sure no one doesn't want that.

I'm just wondering, but who actually ever Tries to lose gym battles? I've tried to win every gym battle I've been in, and I havent seen/heard of people purposefully losing before someone mentioned it here. I'm in favor of keeping the current payout system, with possibly a 500 or 1k boost to the winner.

I imagine that if you are a Water leader with a Rental, get booted, and then win a Water gym back, you can just keep your lineup (including the EMed rental mons) the same way it was. What happens if you don't win your Gym back is a more complicated question. Personally, I think that the money spent on rentals that is lost because of this transition should be reimbursed because this is an unforeseeable circumstance that results in the system dropping the Leader as opposed to vice versa. Monbrey will have to speak up on this, though.

    WTP, shut up.

WildCards aren't going anywhere. At least, until I get a Fighting type that's Electric/Ice/Rock.

So, are we going to keep our gyms and transition seamlessly, or does everyone have to re-apply?

Sigh, and this is why we can't have nice things...

As has been stated before, the best transition is one in which we set up the new league system while keeping the old one in place. Then, on a date we feel ready, we switch it all over.

I would recommend we wait until we implement Gen VI before we launch the new league system since the Kalos Region and Fairy Pokemon were just introduced. It'd give people, especially Fairy Gym Leaders, a little more time to prepare.
