About Harry's most recent suggestion: would the proposed new gyms in a region (Fairy in Sinnoh, Dark in Kalos) facilitate a new, URPG-created town or would it just be a modification of an actual town's gym within the region? Example - if we were converting the Rock Gym of Kalos (of Cyllage City) to the Dark type gym, would we create a new Dark gym with another town or reuse Cyllage? Perhaps we could use a town that was in the games but didn't have a gym associated with it.

More of a minor detail, but this seems like the best suggestion of them all imo.

Also, what would the new e4 requirement be, still 18 of the 36 badges? I assume the badges obtained in the past would transfer, but what about the badges that wouldn't transfer? I realize that would be the minority of obtained badges, but it's still something we should probably revisit.

I believe Harry's stance was that we would make up a town and name it suitably, but I also like the idea of just using other towns. For example, Celestic Town could totally be home to a Dark-type Gym.

It seems like this system that Harry has worked up sits best with everyone, which is good. Now, instead of jerking around with new systems, we should discuss the remaining issues, i.e.:

    Badge transference.
    Elite Four requirements.
Gym Leader update (as in everyone gets booted and needs to reapply or whatever).

    My opinions on the above:

    1. I don't care about this too much. In fact, I'd kinda like a fresh start for everyone for simplicities sake, even if there is no compensation. Would promote more battling. Obviously let e4 people remain eligible. NOTE: If the general consensus is to not restart, can the option remain for those who would (aka me)?

    2. I think two whole regions is a cool amount. A 6 badge set for a region seems a little short IMO. Likewise, three might be a bit excessive when you think the previous amount was just eight.

    3. Like has been suggested, everyone gets booted. Open up gym applications for two weeks and give priority to those who already own a gym of that type (possibly hold a round robin thing for types with more than two gyms, idk). If we have a fresh start, I think records should be wiped (old records can be preserved).

If someone wants to apply for a new type gym (fairy/dark) let them go first for a week or so so that they don't potentially lose their gym for just a chance. If an old leader is unsuccessful, they can apply for their old gym in a new thing. Alternatively, allow two applications initially, one for old type and one for new types. < This probably sounds confusing but I could probably explain it better.

As a side point (although it's not super important for a few years) is what we'll do when gen vii comes out, what happens if there's new types etc. will their be a gym realignment or something?

    Not sure if this has been suggested but;
    And in addition to what has been proposed;

Why not allow the appointed gym leaders to select the name of their gym? This means that if we were to have only two regions, the leader(s) of the Normal-type Gym would be able to choose his gym name from the options of Goldenrod, Petalburg, Nacrene, or Aspertia. Just offering a solution so that we will be able to pick our favorite gym (name) under the new system still.

I had suggested something along those lines, but with more freedom. I had said we should allow the gym leaders to create their own city to name and design (if they so choose) to their liking. This way, we bring some sort of roleplaying to the gym scene, and spice up the idea of being a gym leader. I think it would allow people to create their own personal bond with their gym, moreso than just picking a city given in the game.

Under that sort of system, I suppose you could choose to represent a city from a game region, if that is more to your liking. I just assume that it would be a more unique way of dealing with the gyms, and make every gym special to their gym leader.

And while I'm posting, I mind as well bring up the whole "Older Badges" thing. We don't necessarily have to scrap them. Under the system I am in the process of thinking up, they could still be a viable badge towards E4 challenge. We could just convert it to whoever the gym leader was having chose to represent that regions city and badge. We could handle it as "[insert name here]'s [City name here] Gym" rewarding "[Insert badge name here] Badge". Under this kind of system, the older gym badges will still be a viable badge, but still allowing for a new, more balanced gym system to be in place.

Yes, I do realize this could make it so that we will eventually end up with people moving in and out of gym leader positions, creating a new badge, etc. and older members who may have that badge from the previous gym leader challenging them to get the new badge, but we could do something along the lines of retiring a badge previously awarded, and either making it null and void, or voiding it at the gaining of the badge that replaced it. Again, I haven't put much thought into this idea, but I think it would work pretty well if we hammer out the kinks.

Just trying to figure out a way to appease all of you damn people. Lucky I love some of you.

I'm only missing four badges, and I'm content with that, but if you make my badges null, I am going to destroy every single gym just to spite you all.

Well, under the system I am working on, you wouldn't have your badges become null unless you challenged and beat a gym leader with the equivalent of your badges. So no matter what, you have the same valid badges no matter what.

*This is a rough draft only. Please feel free to help me refine this idea here, or via AIM/PMs.**

    Roleplay-Friendly Gym League

Cities and Gym Badge names can either be custom-designed by the LO’s chosen and Monbrey, or left for Gym Leaders taking a slot to work out. Preferring the latter since less work for mods.
    * With this, Gym Leaders could choose for their city gyms to represent game region gyms, or create their own custom gym.
    * If preferring to do custom gyms by the individual gym leaders and cut out the game regions and cities entirely, approval from LO’s would be necessary for the created gyms and cities.
    * Could be possibly split into regions, if choosing to not allow representation of game region cities.

Older badges can still be valid for E4 challenges under this region.
    * Old badges can either be retired once a new badge of that type is obtained, effectively voiding out its ability to validate an E4 challenge, becoming a trophy of what came before it.
    * Once a gym leader retires and a replacement is found, the older gym badge could continue being a valid badge towards E4 challenges.
    * Collectors who challenge a gym every time a new leader takes the spot would void their old badge from that spot once the new badge is obtained. Still a nice trophy, but usefulness goes down.
    * We could work out some sort of trade-in scheme to give people points to spend, kind of like Poke Miles in the new X and Y game. They get random stuff that could be useful. Maybe evolution stones, TMs, HMs, etc.

This idea would personalize the gym to the leaders ideals, allowing for more attachment to their gym and possibly heighten their drive to do well in their position. Could raise the quality of gym challenges on the part of the gym leader due to raised attachment to what they created.

Would work pretty much exactly how the gym league works now, just with more creativity involved and more balanced typing of the gyms.

Could possibly raise activity with gym challenges and defends

The idea of gym apprentices came up, to help newcomers to try out monotype battling and possibly training them to be future gym leaders.
    * Gym Leaders could have a challenger face off against their apprentice in a short 2v2 or 3v3 match before accepting a challenge.
    * Make it so gym leaders MUST watch the apprentice battle a potential challenger, and be ready and willing to battle the challenger if the apprentice is beaten.
    * Actively using the apprentice to dodge challenges wouldn’t work, making it so that once the apprentice loses, the same challenger cannot battle the apprentice again for that gym until the gym leader is defeated.
    * Apprentices could be allowed ONE rented Pokemon of the type they are apprenticing for. Rented Pokemon and moves taught to it are lost if the apprentice decides to drop from their gym to pursue another gym(or no gym at all).
    * If an apprentice becomes a gym leader of that type, the one rented Pokemon can roll over into their gym leader rentals, along with moves taught.
    * No more than one apprentice per gym leader. Gym leaders have the right to deny any would-be apprentice. Gym leader can have an apprentice removed from their gym with approval from their League Organizer(if more than one).

    **Completely separate idea**
Gym Leaders could receive wages like Refs, Graders, Rangers, etc., based on how many challenges they accepted, and depending on if they defended successfully or not. Successful defends earning more money, losing giving less. Mostly just a perk to give gym leaders incentives to not dodge challengers and to really put their all into winning. Dodging was a huge issue beforehand and maybe putting money incentives will help alleviate this.

^For the wages idea, I am strongly against it. Leaders already receive $$ for winning/losing battles, so why should there be a need for even more incentive? (tbh that just makes us all look pretty money-hungry imo) If it's motivation to really defend their gym well, I don't think that's necessary - I've seen battles before where certain leaders go to such extremes just to make sure they are able to defend their gym, even if it meant being a jerk or what. Receiving wages makes being a gym leader seem like a job, instead of like, idk a privilege with responsibility kind of thing (idk, my brain's not working); people choose to become gym leaders not because they want more money out of it, but rather because they want to have fun, learn more about [defending] a specific type, and improve their battling skills - those in themselves should be enough incentive already to really put their all into winning.

The wages thing is just something I threw in there. I do see where you're coming from, and I just figured it would be worthwhile to talk about. I know battles are rewarded with money as it is, I just want to try and alleviate gym leaders from feeling the need to dodge challenges. Either stricter rules on dodging or some sort of incentive not to dodge. I personally prefer stricter rules on dodging, but I know at one point it has been brought up to give money to gym leaders like a job would.

That idea is something that can be completely dropped, and not effect my idea at all. Don't even consider it packaged with my gym league idea, as it really has nothing to do with it and just a random idea I remembered when I was writing the post.

It'd be cool to get some more opinions on these before activity in this thread dies out (u mods better deliver)

I still think everyone should start the league with none of the new badges, but still retain their old - see my previous post.

1 badge of every type is a really clean idea imo, and means that people will have "faced it all" kinda thing before challenging the E4. I wouldn't be against two full leagues either,I suppose, but I think one of each type is a lot better.

I think it's pretty unanimous that everyone gets the boot, everyone re-applies, and people who wish to retain their gyms have preference most of the time. I say most because if people like Pichuboy were to reclaim his Gym over someone else who was more active and wanted it, it wouldn't be any different than the pointless rolecalls we've had in the past

    Badge transference.

I too would be in favour of a fresh start but I dont really have much of an opinion on this either way, so long as the majority of people are not raging

    Elite Four requirements.

Id like one of each type this would make e4 harder to qualify for but should encourage challenges to all the gyms

Gym Leader update (as in everyone gets booted and needs to reapply or whatever).

I am really for this idea a clean slate for everyone - so long as the LO's dont go all crazy ass hat on us and by that i meen id like to see active gym leaders with strong applications (not just the barest minimum and max rentals) Maybe take a close look at the EM list on those pokes there proposing to use. Possibly ask what ems there planning on purchasing - Level up moves rarely cut it in gym battling since almost everything will resist the STAB of the gym type or be neautral to it. Maybe ask them how to deal with X threat - (for grass ask them how to deal with a gengar for instance - there are numerous ways 2hko by surf from ludi in rain, smack down eq from cradily anyway)

Being a gym leader in urpg is a commitment you yourself make be prepared to back it up with urpg pennies and just a bit of dedication people

I think e4 reqs should be kept to filling a league rather than a type. For example, if me and Ash both get the same type gym, everyone will want to battle me and not bother with Ash. Providing we have a good leader or two in each league, 2 regions completed is both strict but fair.

Edit: not that I would want to miss out on all these battles or get annoyed at the amount/quality of challengers, just thought we wanted people to not avoid the better battlers.

At this point, I've basically just set back and let y'all go back and forth. Harry a few days ago ask me to think back to the old days when Jack and Nin ran the URPG (yes, our founding fathers) and asked me to pull from my knowledge and come up with something close to what they would do or suggest. I spent time thinking and only came up with something very small...

They wouldn't do anything that is completely unfair. We're all trying to come up with something that is fair to everyone but it's only going around in circles at this point.

The second thing I came up with was that Jack, being who he is, would make all of this null and void by now. More problems than solutions are coming up and everyone is nitpicking about the smallest thing; making even the most suitable idea a bad one because of something small that can be worked out as time goes.

Also....sticking with my memories of the old days, those who started the URPG would agree with me that it's pointless to start a new system. What's the point of a new system at all when badges are being transferred? Why bother with all of this when everyone is concerned about their badges going away and having to start over? Yes, I agree completely that EVERYONE has worked so hard to get what they have. I might not have a complete set but I worked hard for the badges but I'm ready for a restart. Those victories are old, except for one badge, and if I remember correctly, they weren't too hard to obtain. It's because the victories are old that a clean slate of badges is a great idea. Leaders have come and gone and battle styles have changed. But if the most important thing to everyone is trying to keep their badges and don't seem to care about having their memories or even make a Gym Badge Hall of Fame thread to keep record of the success of each individual, then changing anything is completely meaningless and it should just stay the way it is and we all can just hope for the best and move on.

I agree with this. I really think it's becoming more of an issue to try and appease the people who want to keep their old badges. Being a gym leader, I am 100% for change in the system. I know some older members might be wary of change and starting over, but the URPG has to change in order to keep up with the times and the new players. I know the founding fathers would rather the URPG survive by changing and becoming more appealing to the vast majority of players, and less appeasing older members who may or may not contribute anything but a few whiny comments here or there.

Well if the majority want a fresh start, why can't the everyone trade old badges in for prizes? (shot) haha. That way it is not as disastrous when fresh starting might be implemented.

This looks fine. It's the best of both options. We get to keep a system based on the regional gym leagues of the games/anime, while revamping it in such a way to allow us a balanced and HOPEFULLY more popular system which is easier to manage and fill.

What? This is pretty much exactly what I was on board for :p It's the badge transition I think is a bad idea.

I don't have that many badges. My reward is not having to here about this issue anymore.

Nope on the money. They already get paid.

I think the issue there is that the people with the most badges have already received the most money and TM's from the victories, now the suggestion is that they get even more.

    Badge Transition Stuff

I really don't think it's a good idea. If we want the new system to be popular, and we want people challenging it, nothing will do that better than people not having the badges for it.

Having said that, I don't really care, given that most of the new gyms represent/are an old one. If you have the badge of a gym that exists in the new league, keep it. If the gym is gone, don't swap the badge. It's gone.
