I stood staring at the cave before me. It seemed that a new area of the park had been discovered and people were going to explore it. I was one such soul, despite the fact that I had only ever been in the park once. I fingered the four red and white Pokeball attached to my belt. Not knowing what I would encounter I had chose to be versatile in the Pokemon I picked. I had chose Snorlax, Toxicroak, Alakazam, and Infernape.

Snorlax was an obvious choice because of its move pool and because it could take a wide range of punishment. Alakazam was hard hitter that could inflict a ton of damage easily and it was one of the fastest Pokemon around. Infernape was my all around all-star; both fast and able to hit hard with a wide variation of moves. While not as powerful as the other three, Toxicroak had a few tricks I had taught it. It’s ability to heal with moves like Drain Punch and it’s ability of Dry Skin it could come through in a pinch. But the main reason I had brought it was because of its Super Fang technique. Super Fang was a powerful move that could reduce the health of opponents in half with a single blow, very handy when fighting strong Pokemon.

I reached for the first Pokeball and called forth the massive blue and white behemoth that was Snorlax. With Snorlax at my side I entered the cave, ready to face what ever awaited me.​

As soon as I entered the dark and damp cave I ran into a Pokemon. Too my surprise it was the small Ice Pokemon known as Vanillite. It had a small blue body topped by a white head that resembled an ice cream cone with blue ringed eyes. It looked adorable if one could look past that fact that it wanted to battle. Luckily though it was only a basic Pokemon and wouldn’t be too hard for any of my Pokemon to handle.

I reached for another Pokeball and with a flash of red light my Infernape appeared. The large fire monkey stretched its yellow and orange limbs before it turned to the Pokemon. She clenched her blue colored hands into fists and became battle ready.

“Alright, Infernape,” I called to her. “Let’s use a simple Flamethrower attack.”

The white hair of the Pokemon puffed out as she called for the energy to produce the flames that made up the attack. The blazing hot flames sped toward the little Pokemon in a spiral of red and orange.​

Not too my surprise, the jet of flame struck the small Ice type squarely. Then something happened that did surprise me; the Vanillite was still in the mood for battle, as illustrated by the attack it fired at Infernape. It's body had begun to glow a faint cyan color before it fired a pale blue beam of energy at Infernape. I could tell Infernape was surprised because she didn't dodge or counter with another fire move. Beside me Snoralx let out a low rumble that served as a chuckle. Infernape shot her friend an angry look before she turned back to the battle.

"Calm down, Flame," I called, referring to her nickname. "It's already very weak, just hit it with a Ember attack."

Infernape nodded he flame head once and turned to lay a fierce-some grin on her face, a present for the Pokemon that attacked her. I couldn't see the face of Vanillite, but if it was me I would not be happy.

Flamepelt's cheeks puffed up for the briefest of seconds before she fired a slew of tiny Embers. One of the weakest Fire attacks, I didn't want to overkill on the Pokemon.​

As the Ember moved towards its target the small Pokemon was not to be outdone. Before my attack could hit, it fired a sharp piece of ice at Infernape, striking her. It was one last act of desperation by the Ice type before it lost the battle. As the little Pokemon turned to flee it dropped a small piece candy corn.

“Good job, Flame. Return to your Pokeball.”

As my fire monkey vanished from sight I hooked her Pokeball back to my belt and moved west into the next tunnel. I was greeted by another cavern with a single exit to the north. But directly ahead was a powerful Water Pokemon known as Blastoise. The giant turtle Pokemon swiveled its cannon to point directly at us in a blatant challenge.

I looked up at Snorlax. “Alright. you got this.” Snorlax looked at the other large Pokemon and moved forward. “Start this battle off with a Seed Bomb move.”

The large cheeks of Snorlax began to bulge ever so slightly as it called up the energy that would allow it to use the Grass move. A moment later Snorlax fired off a series of fist sized blobs of bright green energy at the blue body of Blastoise.​

The energy forms of Seed Bomb struck Blastoise with a powerful effect. Blastoise stumbled back from the blow but was more than ready for its counterattack. From the twin silver cannons it fired off a twin stream of freezing water at the large target called Snorlax.

“Brace yourself,” I called to Snorlax. The twin jets of water hit Snorlax, but the blue Pokemon shrugged the attacks off like they were nothing. Blastoise wasn’t as lucky. Blastoise had good defense, due to the large shell on its back, but Snorlax had a high attack stat and it could deal some massive damage in a wide range of types.

“Good going, Snorlax. We have it weakened. Hit it with your Thunder Punch move!”

I could have used Seed Bomb again, but Thunder Punch took less energy to produce and it was easier for him to use because it was a technical machine. I just gave him the move disc and from there all it took was a lot of practice for Snorlax to master the electric move. Because Snorlax had mastered the move it only took Snorlax a quick second to channel the energy needed to his right fist. At first the sledge hammer sized hand only glowed a bright white, but slowly the yellow light of electricity built around the first until it had a formed a mini barrier of energy. Snorlax lumbered forward, its fist raised and ready to bring down upon the head of Blastoise.

My attack successfully struck Blastoise, who roared and fled from the cavern. I walked over to Snorlax and rubbed his soft fur. "Excellent job, couldn't have done it better myself."

Something caught my eye so I walked over to where Blastoise had been hit by Thunder Punch. In its spot was a small black apricorn. The staff had told us about these things. After we had explored this place we could give them to the staff and they would fashion them into something. "Nice, you found us something unique."

Snorlax snorted a reply. I knew he was skeptical, but then so was I. How they were going to make something from these things outside of a snack was baffling to me. I pushed those thoughts aside and got back to business. I beckoned my Pokemon to follow and we moved into the next room.

The next room looked like the last one except it had three different exits and a small white and green Pokemon was standing in the center. Resembling a small girl from far away, I knew instantly it was a Ralts. A Psychic type Pokemon, although not overly powerful at this stage. It was small and white, with a green head from which little red horns sprouted.

"Snorlax, Body Slam." I don't know how, but Snorlax managed to heave its massive bulk in the air, aiming for Ralts. ​

I saw Ralts glance up as the massive shadow of my Pokemon passed over it. I lifted its tiny arms, but I couldn't see what happened outside of a bright light that filled the air. There was a giant whomp followed by an explosion of dust and air when Snorlax hit the cavern floor. It took about fifteen seconds for the dust to settle before I could see what had happened. I saw the large from of Snorlax as it backed away from Ralts. I could see his body pulsing with the fading glow of yellow light. I smiled; Ralts had done something unexpected by using Thunder Bolt just as Snorlax to do some good damage. I was tempted to laugh, but I'm sure Snorlax would not have appreciated it at all.

"Use your Chip Away move." I didn't want to absolutely crush the poor thing. Chip Away was a semi-strong attack that would do just enough damage.

Snorlax's body started to glow a faint white as it built up the energy needed before it fired shards of white light at Ralts.​

When the dust cleared, after both Pokemon had unleashed their attacks, I saw that Ralts had fled, leaving a small apricron in it wake. Except this one was a dark black color. After the special mask had healed Snorlax I indicated for Snorlax to grab the item and for us to move forward.

The next room was different than the previous rooms for two reasons. The first reason was that it was empty of items and Pokemon, and because it had three different exits. "Good thing we came prepared," I mumbled into Snorlax, reaching into my pack to retrieve a special item there. I found what I was looking for a pulled out a clear crystal ball. "This will show us the way." I muttered a few words into the glass orb and the thing began to glow an assortment of colors before it pointed a single shaft of light at the north exit. "Ask and we will recieve. But first let's see what's down the east path."

I placed the ball back into my pack and made for the east exit.​

We walked into the next area and were greeted by a familiar sight: another Pokemon. Once again it was a weaker one, a small Cherubi. Cherubi resembled a couple of grapes pushed together with a small leaf on the main head. The Grass turned to stare at us as we entered the cave. "Time to hit the stage, Snorlax. Go for a simple Fire Punch attack."

I could have used Infernape or even Toxicroak, but Snorlax would do just fine against this and most other Pokemon without needing a break. After flirting with different attacks I had decided to use the Fire type move for a little extra type advantage instead of just using my STAB moves.

Like Thunder Punch earlier, Fire Punch was a technical machine and required just a tad more focus. Once again the energy swirled around the fist of Snorlax until it materialized into a blazing ball of flame that burned at the touch. With a roar Snorlax charged the small Pokemon. I absently wondered what Cherubi would do. ​

The red hot fist of Snorlax slammed into the small form of Cherubi. I knew it inflicted a large amount of damage but the little guy was intent on making this a battle. It used to the blow of Fire Punch to somersault backwards so that not all of the energy struck it. Once it mid-air it conjured up a swirling orb of green and yellow energy, which it fired at my Pokemon. Snorlax grunted when the attack connected with his round form. I could tell he was getting a little tired now, multiple battles in a row tended to do that.

"Good job, Snorlax," I yelled, trying to encourage him. "One last attack. Fire Punch!"

Snorlax raised his fists and roared before it charged to hopefully deliver the final blow to the small Pokemon.​
