“That’s a Manaphy,” I replied, smiling at Jade as she stuck close to Akinai. This probably wasn’t the best place for a Pokemon who didn’t like water or getting wet. “They’re some of the rarest Pokemon, not just in the Park, but in the world. They’re Legendary Pokemon, you know. You’re lucky to have seen one; I know Trainers who have been coming here for years and haven’t spotted a flash of one.”

The Manaphy giggled again, flipping into the air and performing a few somersaults before landing in the water and vanishing from sight. When it didn’t reappear, I assumed it had left to do other things.

My attention was grabbed from the pool by the sensation of something crawling over my foot. I scowled and looked down, finding a large blue slug slowly moving over my shoe. I looked over at Akinai and forced myself not to suddenly bust out laughing.

“I seem to have a cling-on,” I told her, shifting my weight and motioning to the Shellos, which at that moment decided to be lazy and simply sit on my shoe.

Akinai eyed the Shellos as the slug lazed on its unusual perch. The Pokemon would be a nice addition to her team...but how to get it off of Arunei's foot?

"Sorry about this, Jade, but this needs a more subtle approach." Akinai pulled off two Pokeballs off her belt, returning the Flygon in one and letting the other sphere drop to the ground. A short burst of white light revealed a brown foxlike Pokemon.

"Kaya, try to get that Shellos' attention by Growling at it." The Eevee began to let out an intimidating growl...Would it work?

Daniel looked at Gyarados, somewhat fearfully. It's big, red eyes made Daniel feel as though it was staring into his soul. Daniel hadn't ever seen such a large Pokemon this close, needless to say he was a little scared. Daniel would've screamed and run, had Sara not told him about the kind natured Gyarados.

Daniel had to think for a bit about Gyarados' challenge. Should he attack it? Should he catch it? Raiguy was attempting to communicate with Gyarados. He mimiced the gesture made by the sea serpant's tail, only he left a glass patch where the contact with the sand occured. Raiguy nodded to Daniel. He didn't know why, but Daniel knew that him and the kind old Gyarados were destined to meet. He decided he would battle, and possibly catch it.

The Gyarados was older and wiser, and therefore had more battle experience then Carvanah, OR Daniel. Also, Gyarados would be a formidable on sea, air or land, not to mention had an advantage on two out of three. Finally, Daniel wasn't sure he'd be able to catch Gyarados using only Parkballs. "Well, it never hurts to try!" Daniel thought.

"Okay Gyarados! I accept your challenge! Raiguy, use thunderwave, and then follow up with discharge, but ease up on it, I don't wanna knock it out!"

Daniel wished he had chose his attack more carefully; would discharge hit more than just Gyarados?

Daniel would have changed his commands, but it was too late. Raiguy had fired the attacks already, almost simultaneously.

OOC: Remember, don't just list your attacks, describe how they work. And don't be afraid to make use of the environment; in fact, doing so in encouraged.

Also, I've been adding an extra 'a' in "Gyrados" all this time XD.

    Oh, and Gyra's Gender?

Gyarados watched Raiguy shoot off his Thunder Wave/Discharge combo, seemingly unconcerned. The massive water serpent had seen hundreds of battles in its long life, and because many Trainers brought Electric types with them to the Great Lakes, a lot of the Pokemon here seemed to have a bit of tolerance for Electric attacks. But it wasn’t just its long years of battling and acquired resistance to Electric attacks that made Gyarados unafraid.

Twisting its long body, the blue-scaled snake opened its huge maw wide, collecting an impressive amount of glittering, multi-colored energy behind its deadly fangs. Calmly, as if doing nothing more than watching the clouds move by, Gyarados fired its Hyper Beam…but not at Raiguy. Instead, it blasted through Raiguy’s Thunder Wave attack, instantly disspating and scattering the weak electrical pulse. It then struck the sizzling, lime-green sphere of electricty Raiguy had fired, cutting through it and sending the two halves flying harmlessly past it. They collided with the ground, sending up plumes of sand and melting more into streaks of glass.

“I think it’s gonna take a lot more than that, Daniel,” I said, trying to encourage him. Gyarados simly stared, its sides heaving a bit as it recovered from the Hyper Beam. “Gyarados might be old, but it’s still strong, and its age has only given it a lot of battle experience. But you can do it; you just have to out-strategize it is all!”

Daniel looked up at Gyrados is disbeilief. "Oh, you have GOT to be kidding me!" Daniel stated angrily.

Daniel looked at Raiguy, who was just as surprised as he was. "Hm...we'll have to think of a better strategy...He (yes, it's a boy XD) should be weak from using Hyperbeam for a while...I know! Raiguy, use slam on the sand infront of you, then use quick attack to jump onto Gyrados!"

Raiguy knew this was risky, but was more than up to the challenge. He hit the ground with his tail, using the impact to launch himself into the air. He then used quick attack in Gyrados's direction. Raiguy had his own idea, however. To phase Gyrados, he used a thunderwave attack whilst in the air. This would mean that Gyrados would get hit by one thing or the other, or at least that's what they hoped. "I've taught you well, Raiguy." Daniel stated. Raiguy braced himself to either take a hit, or dish one out.

Shellos didn’t seem very affected by Kaya’s Growl. It cocked its head to one side, then made a funny sort of gurgling noise. I realized after a moment it was trying to imitate the growl and couldn’t help but laugh. The Shellos looked up at me and made yet another strange noise, clearly trying to mimic my laughing.

“I’ve never heard of a Shellos acting like a Chatot before,” I said with a smile, putting my foot down. Shellos slid from my shoe and made its way to Kaya, stopping about a foot from her. It stared at her hard, slowly moving in a circle around her, as if examining the Eevee. Finally, the little slug came to a halt, lowering its head and tensing its entire body. After a moment a sheen came over the Pokemon’s body, and it raised its head to give Kaya a quizzical look.

“I think…it’s trying to see if Kaya can copy its Harden,” I said, shrugging a bit. “Maybe this one just likes copying others?”

"A mimicking Shellos...this could be interesting." Akinai grinned as the Shellos waited for a response from Kaya.

The Eevee in turn gave the slug an odd look. Did it really think that she could use Harden as well?

"Get pumped up using Focus Energy, Kaya. Maybe it will think you're trying to copy Harden." Kaya nodded and closed her eyes in concentration.

I smiled at Daniel’s orders, nodding a bit. He was starting to think more about strategy than out-right attacking, the latter of which wasn’t going to get him anywhere with a Pokemon as seasoned as Gyarados. I watched as Raiguy raised his tail and slammed it into the ground, sending up a plume of sand high into the air. The force of the blow sent him into the air, and then by rapidly tightening and relaxing his muscles to release jolts of electricity, he propelled himself towards Gyarados as a near-invisible blur.

Gyarados narrowed his eyes, but his sight wasn’t as good as it had been and he couldn’t spot Raiguy coming at him. Still winded from his Hyper Beam, the gargantuan Pokemon shifted his bulk from side to side, letting out a deep, guttural hiss in an attempt to startle Raiguy and make him visible. However, his hiss was cut short when Raiguy fired off another Thunder Wave. The haze of electricity washed over Gyarados, temporarily paralyzing him as it coursed through his body. His muscles twitched and jumped under his armor-like scales, which were useless in turning away an Electric attack.

Raiguy whammed into Gyarados a moment later, but the impact did little damage. Gyarados’s strong scales might not be useful for preventing damage from Electric-based attacks, but they were excellent for cutting down on damage taken from most physical assaults. There wasn’t much that was stronger than a Gyarados’s scales; Daniel and Raiguy would be much better off fighting from a distance. Not only would it give them a better chance of succeeding, it would keep them out of the range of Gyarados’s own physical attacks, or at least most of them.

Akinai had a good idea, and Kaya carried out her given order of Focus Energy. Closing her eyes, she slowed her breathing and concentrated on the beat of her heart, the pulse of blood, and the flow of energy in her body. She focused on the feel of her body, limber and agile and full of strength, and when she was done, she sighed softly and opened her eyes.

Shellos cocked its head from side to side a few times, blinking a little. Then it made a sort of squeaking sound, bobbing its head and slithering in a circle. Then it suddenly leapt towards Kaya, and let me tell you, there’s nothing quite so ridiculous as watching a slug jump. It pulled its head down against its chest and curled its squishy body upwards, forming a compact ball as it flew through the air.

OOC: Alright, will try my best to describe attacks. I have to admit that descriptions are one of my weak points ^^; also, going with female with Shellos.

Kaya tensed as the Shellos leaped towards her. This was a complete 180 of how the slug acted before, perhaps she was angry at being unable to copy the Focus Energy?

"Kaya, try to avoid it and retaliate with a Quick Attack before it uncurls. That should leave it disoriented if we're lucky."

Akinai took a quick look at her surroundings. There were pools everywhere to the sides of the path, and that put her Eevee at a disadvantage. If the Shellos was knocked into the water, the slug Pokemon might try to escape.

"..And try to aim it away from the water if possible!" Kaya seemed distracted as she attempted to make a wide leap to the side as the Shellos flew quickly forward...

OOC part 2: My post was pretty short as well so no worries XD out of couriousity, are there any types of trees/bushes/open areas other then the path, or is there nothing but water?

Akinai had Kaya attempt a Quick Attack to dodge Shellos’s Take Down. The little brown fox crouched and then leapt to the side so quickly she looked like a chocolate-colored blur. When she landed a second later, a bit of sand flew into the air. Shellos, on the other hand, continued to fly past where Kaya had been seconds ago. Sensing something was wrong, the pink slug uncurled just in time to hit the sand, tumbling until she hit a scraggly bush. Squeaking, the slug righted herself and glanced about, spotting Kaya a second later. Swelling a bit in obvious irritation, the little Pokemon made another strange squeaking sound.

Then Shellos seemed to deflate, her little body becoming smaller. I realized after a second, though, that she was just squeezing her muscles so tightly she seemed to be shrinking. As she tensed, a clear fluid oozed from her body, and Shellos twisted her flexible body all over as she gathered the slime in her mouth. She then faced Kaya and spat the slime in a makeshift Sludge attack. I grimaced and scooted a bit further away, not wanting to get hit by any stray slime Shellos might spit.

Raichu was falling from the sky faster than he could think to do anything. He landed on his tail, sticking it into the sand. Upon pulling it out, a small hunk of glass had formed around it. This gave Daniel an idea.

"Raiguy! Use slam again!" By using the glass on his tail, Raiguy was able to create a medevail flail. He began to spin in a cirular motion, sending up grains of sand as he went along. Before he knew it, he looked more like an orange tornado than anything else.

Raiguy went hurtling towards Gyrados. Raiguy let out a thundershock attack, charging the tornado with electricity. "Now Raiguy, hit Gyrados, then jump up into a thunderbolt!"

OOC: Sharp branches...I'll have to remember that.

Akinai slightly panicked as she saw Shellos ready the Sludge attack. If Kaya ended up poisoned, she would be out of commission until the effect wore, and even then the Eevee would be very weak. Akinai made a mental note to buy a Full Heal or two next time she visited the Park.

"Kaya, don't let that hit you! Try to dodge using another Quick Attack, then retaliate using Take Down."

Kaya appeared to be a little tired from using her last attack, but tensed up for another quick sidestep.

Raiguy looked like an out-of-control dervish as he spun about, creating a vortex of sand, wind, and electricity. He then charged at leapt at Gyarados, the electrified tunnel moving with him. As the electricity jumped from one grain of sand to another, it formed a sort of thin chain of glass that quickly shattered thanks to the force of the wind.

Gyarados reared back, maw opening wider than ever as he drew in a breath, steeling himself. Without flinching, he waited until Raiguy slammed into him, wincing but giving no other sign of distress as the attack struck him. The Slam itself, even with the improvised casing around Raiguy’s tail, wasn’t what had caused the large serpent to wince; the weak currents of electricity had done that.

Even so, the Pokemon didn’t hesitate to attack through his discomfort. Rearing back and letting out a ferocious roar, the Pokemon suddenly threw himself towards Raiguy, twisting his massive body about in what looked like violent convulsions. It was, in truth, a very powerful Thrash attack. It would leave Gyarados fatigued and dazed for some time after it was finished, but if it hit, it would do serious damage to Raiguy and maybe even knock him out entirely. Even as the Raichu leapt away from Gyarados into the air and readied his Thunderbolt, Gyarados flailed his long tail and caught his opponent’s side, throwing Raiguy back to the sand.

“Get away!” I called out, trying to offer some advice. “Attack from a distance!”

Kaya did as she was asked, darting out of the path of the Sludge attack and appearing next to Shellos. The little Eevee then gathered herself before lunging for her foe, ducking her head low and pulling her legs close to her chest so she didn’t lose momentum thanks to drag on her fur from them wind.

Shellos, being a slug and thus relatively slow, barely had time to realize Kaya was attacking before being slammed by the fox. Both Pokemon went tumbling, flipping head over tail as they rolled across the sand. Shellos landed on her back, wiggling her body madly in an effort to right herself. After several seconds, she managed to flip herself upright, then turned her head to glare at Kaya. This was unnerving, since Kaya was behind Shellos, and thus the slug had to twist her head 180-degrees. It wouldn’t have been so bad, save for the soft squishing noise the action created.

“Shell!” the little pink Pokemon hissed before opening her jaws wide and inhaling deeply. She then spat forth a thin stream of water, but that wasn’t the real attack; surrounding the stream were several rings of water that were vibrating with powerful ultrasonic waves. This made the water pulsate, which gave the attack its name of Water Pulse.

“If that attack hits it might confuse Kaya,” I warned Akinai. “You guys should be careful.”

OCC: Yeah, I know, that's why I kept using slam. XD
Also, I'd like Gyarados to be male please.
ALSO, I'm sure you had a good reason to be gone for a while.

Daniel watched as Raiguy was knocked into the sand. The attack had hit very hard. Daniel was seriously considering using a potion. "Attack from a distance!" Sara exclaimed. Daniel had a decision to make; use a far range attack but risk knocking Gyarados out, or put Raiguy in danger by using meelee combat.

"It's using thrash, Raiguy! Don't go any closer and use thundershock!" Raiguy let loose a small jolt of electricity. As long as Raiguy stayed safely on shore, he'd be safe.

"Gotta get ready for the capture..." Daniel said, taking a Parkball from his pocket. "It's too bad I didn't bring any superballs or hyperballs." Gyarados was easily three times as strong as Carvanah, and probably three times harder to catch too.

OOC: No worries, RL happens ^^

Akinai nodded at Arunei's advice. She could possibly have Kaya dodge it with another Quick Attack, but the Eevee looked worn out from using the move in rapid succession.

Kaya, dodge that to the best of your ability! Once you're clear, try to Tackle it into one of those bushes." Akinai pointed to one of the bushes the Shellos had crashed into before.

"If you have time to attack before it rights itself again, do so. You can do this, Kaya!"

Kaya prepared to dodge, but looked somewhat uneasy. if she tackled the Shellos while it was in that position, it could get seriously hurt.

Raiguy let loose a small blast of electricity, which arched into the air as it sped towards Gyarados. Unfortunately, the sea serpent was flailing about so much that he ended up jerking out of the path of the attack at the last second, which caused it to hit the sand instead. Most of it dispersed, but a bit of the attack jumped from the ground to Gyarados’s belly.

The massive Pokemon roared, twisting around even more violently than before. He reared up nearly ten feet into the air, then crashed back down with such force he flipped himself over. His tail smashed into the sand mere inches away from Raiguy, and the backlash of wind sent the Raichu tumbling into a pointy-branched bush.

I waited for a moment, wondering if Gyarados would calm down yet, but he was still raging. It wouldn’t be long before he grew fatigued, though, and when that happened he would become befuddled. Even though his random thrashing would end, that wasn’t much of a consolation; a confused Gyarados was equally as dangerous as a rational one. It was impossible to determine what a clear-headed Pokemon would do, and even moreso with one that was gripped by temporary dementia.

“Be careful,” I advised. “Gyarados will become confused when his Thrash ends, so you really need to take care about what you do from here on out.”

Kaya’s indecision about her commands, coupled with her obvious fatigue after moving so quickly, ultimately led to Shellos’s Water Pulse striking true. The ringed water stream collided with Kaya’s chest, sending her sliding back a few feet in the sand. The water soaked Kaya’s throat ruff and her chest fur as the rings transferred their momentum to her body. This is what caused confusion in those who were struck with it; the sensation of rapid movement when one was, in fact, standing still.

Luckily, Kaya’s Focus Energy gave her the insight to avoid the unpleasant effects of the move. Wet and shaken but not seriously damaged, the little Eevee steeled herself before darting towards Shellos, ready to knock her into a bush.

Shellos, being slow, couldn’t avoid the attack in time. So she did something else. Inhaling deeply, she spewed forth a mouthful of water, soaking the sand in front of her. Only it wasn’t just water, but slime that Shellos spat out. The water-and-slime mixture sunk into the sand, making it sticky. It was almost like mud, only a lot ickier.

Eevee, charging at her foe determinedly, ran straight into the impromptu Mud Sport. The mud-like concoction stuck firm to her paws, turning her headlong dash into a painfully slow trudge.

“If that gunk hardens, it’ll slow Kaya down and make it harder for her to move around,” I told Akinai. “She needs to get out of that trap and clean herself off, or else Shellos will have the upper hand.”

Daniel looked at the flailing Gyarados as Raiguy crawled out from the prickly bush. He seemed angry, but this could be used to Daniel's advantage. Daniel scanned the large sea serpent for a weak point that just might stop his physical attacks.

Then it hit Daniel. What was Gyarados' most deadly weapon for smaller creatures like Raiguy? Its tail! If disabled it temporarily, Raiguy would have no trouble landing attacks!

"Raiguy, aim another thundershock at Gyarados' tail, and this time, amp it up a notch!" The jolt of lightning emerged from Raiguy's tiny body and went once again towards Gyarados. Although a confused Gyarados might be easier to hit, it would be just as, if not even MORE dangerous!
