    As Chainy held up his fist to halt, Akinai began to look around inquiringly "What's wrong?". Then she heard the sounds coming from the entrance. Even though the Ranger had already pulled out a torch, the cavern ahead looked foreboding, and the sounds from it weren't helping much either! She never was a huge fan of ghosts, Pokemon or otherwise, and, knowing her luck, that was probably what was waiting ahead.

    "Let's take another path...Not that I'm scared or anything!" Akinai quickly stated this last part. "It's just that we might run into something more interesting if we don't take the main path." Trying to keep her eye off the cavern entrance, she began to look for a clear way off the path.

    Jade stared at Chainy and rolled her eyes in the direction at her trainer, as if to say please forgive her.

    "Let's take another path...Not that I'm scared or anything!It's just that we might find something more interesting if we don't take the main path," Akinai said quickly.

    Jade looked at me and rolled her eyes apologetically. I grinned. This Flygon had a real personality.

    "Not a problem," I said, carefully stepping over the line of raised stones marking the edge of the path. I led Akinai and Jade along the edge of the cave wall, through a small bower of dead trees. A couple minutes after leaving the trail, I heard a small tinkling sound, like a bell. I looked around for the source, and I soon saw a Chingling up on a rock ledge, enjoying the morning sun's warmth. I shuddered. I hated warmth.

    "Want to try capturing that Chingling?" I asked Akinai, pointing it out to her.

    Akinai couldn't help grinning as she looked at the basking Chingling. It seemed to be really enjoying the sun's warmth, lightly dozing even though it was so close to the ledge. she stared at it a moment in thought, then shook her head. "Let's leave it be. It seems to be enjoying itself, and I'd sure hate to be interrupted if I was in the same situation as it."

    Jade began to hover her way up to the slumbering bell Pokemon, curious to see if it was really asleep.

    "Leave it be, Jade!" Akinai called out to the Flygon. As her starter slowly came back down, Akinai directed her attention to Chainy. "It's just a baby anyways. Shall we continue?"

    Akinai shook her head politely. "Let's leave it be. It seems to be enjoying itself, and I'd sure hate to be interrupted if I was in the same situation as it," she said, gazing warmly up at the sleeping Pokemon. Jade buzzed up to it, taking a closer look. The Chingling opened its left eye a crack, then flipped its tail lazily as if to say I'm sleeping, go away.

    Akinai called Jade down, and we moved on. We continued to follow the cliff edge, and we soon left the small woods. We walked out onto an open grassy clearing almost completely surrounded my unclimbable cliffs. There were two paths leading out - one cut into the edge of the cliff, leading up, and one on the other side leading away from the cave network. I thought I could hear barking down the last path, but when I listened more carefully, I couldn't hear anything.

    "What do you want to do?" I asked Akinai. "We could go down either path, or if you're feeling slightly more adventurous we could Fly somewhere else."

    Fly, huh? That would be interesting. Akinai mused to herself. It would definitely cut down on travel time, that's for sure, and would be scenic to say the least. If she and Chainy encountered anything interesting, however, there would be no way she could help...Jade was the only flyer on her team. Clearing her head of the thought, she directed her attention to the two paths.

    The cliff path appeared to go on forever, helped by the fact that the trail seemed sparse. While it would take a while to climb, there was bound to be something interesting up there. The second path, on the other hand, led away from the network so she dismissed the latter.

    "Let's take the path by the cliff. If it leads to a dead end, we could always Fly out of there." Akinai replied.

    Jade was already way ahead of them. Hovering in place a little further up the path, she appeared to be trying to rush the two humans forward.

    OOC: If you don't want what it is in this post, capture it anyway and I'll trade you something for it :DDD

    ~~~~~
    "Let's take the path by the cliff. If it leads to a dead end, we could always Fly out of there," Akinai said to me as Jade hurried forward, hovering just over the edge of the path.
    "Sounds like a good plan to me," I said, and we set off along the path. It was a beautiful path - it afforded us a breathtaking look of some of the lower canyons and valleys. Flocks of bird Pokemon moved around below us, looking for all the world like a flying ocean, and the morning sun painted the clouds a vivid shade of red. I was so busy enjoying the scenery that I didn't hear the strange noise until much later than I should have.
    I began to hear a crackling noise, but the crackling noise had an underlying tone that sounded kinda of like lots of baby birds cheeping. I put up my fist, again indicating that we should stop. I edged forward, and took a look around the corner of the path. Around the corner, the path cut into the mountain a lot deeper. It was now perhaps twenty metres wide as opposed to the three or so it had been so far. In the middle of this wide section was a Kirlia, performing a circle dance. It spun around on its graceful legs, and its short skirt flowed water-like through the air. To further enhance the beauty of its dance, small trails of electricity moved through the air around it. I immediately understood what it was doing - it was trying to master an electrical attack, and it was doing it by attempting to incorporate it into one of its favourite activites, in this case dancing. It was a common form of training.
    I motioned for Akinai to move forward so she could watch the Kirlia too. When she moved forward, I whispered to her, "Do you want to try and catch it? If you do, I would advise against a straight battle. Ralts and Kirlia don't enjoy conflict, so you should find another way to get it to like you besides shows of brute force."
    OOC: A Gardevoir wouldn't be bad, but I don't mind taking a look later.
    The Kirlia's dance was almost entrancing, the electricity surrounding it only helping further enhance this effect. It seemed to be completely absorbed in it's dancing, a trait that both Akinai and Jade found commendable.
    "I would advise against a straight battle." Chainy whispered to her "Ralts and Kirlia don't enjoy conflict, so you should find another way to get it to like you besides shows of brute force."
    "Wish I had brought Zen then." Akinai murmured. The Gallade would have been perfect for this. Instead, she was stuck trying to think of another plan. Cryrosant may have a laid back personality, but the sudden appearance of an Aggron would probably aggravate the Kirlia. Lunaris would probably be much worse; the last thing any Psychic type wants to see is a Dark type! That just left Jade. Motioning to the Flygon to come to her slowly, she whispered her idea to Jade. "Live up to your name of the Desert Spirit. Try to get the Kirlia's attention with dancing, except use sand instead."
    Jade gave her trainer an odd look, but flitted forward all the same, trying to be as quiet as possible. When she reached the outer edge of the dancing Pokemon's path, the Flygon began to spin in place, lightly beating her wings as she did so. In moments, the Mystic Pokemon was enveloped in a small dust cloud.
    OOC: If you want this to work, I advise using descriptions a bit more. Show me clearly exactly what Jade's dance looks like, for example.
    ~~~~~

    "Wish I had brought Zen then." Akinai muttered underneath her breath. She didn't elaborate, but I guessed she must have been speaking about a graceful Pokemon of some sort. Maybe a Stantler or something. Before I could ask, she turned to Jade and whispered, "live up to your name of the Desert Spirit. Try to get the Kirlia's attention with dancing, except use sand instead."

    Jade shot Akinai a strange look, but she carefully and quietly walked around the corner of the cliff, making no effort to hide herself. The Kirlia continued to dance, but it soon noticed the large Flygon. It gasped, and pulled back a little bit, but did not run away. Jade began manipulating little tufts and streams of sand to fly around her. She also swayed from side to side to a silent beat only she could hear. The Kirlia's expression changed from one of surprise, to caution, and then finally to interest. It sat down on the ground, apparently entranced by the swirling grains of sand.

    For no real reason whatsoever, Dual, my Gallade, burst out of his Poke Ball on my belt. <What's going on out here?> he asked me through our mind link.

    Park Run, I replied silently. There's a Kirlia out there, and our Trainer is trying to get close to it without scaring it off.

    Dual huffed, but I felt his approval through our link. He always got closely involved with any Pokemon of his evolution line whenever we crossed paths. He moved over to Akinai and began inspecting her closely. I knew he was probably investigating her mentally as well. I sighed. I'd tell him to stop because he was probably making Akinai uncomfortable, but he'd just ignore me and then I'd look bad.

    OOC: Will do! Makes me wish I had watched a few of the Contest episodes in the anime though. Sort of shooting in the dark currently.

    Akinai watched Jade's display carefully, lost in thought. Alright, so she had obtained the Kirlia's attention...Now what? There had to be some way to end this display with a touch of elegance. As she mulled over what to do she felt an eerie sensation, as if something was inspecting her, in more ways then one. As Akinai searched for the culprit, she noticed the Gallade standing over by Chainy. At first she mistook it for a wild Pokemon, but it seemed too relaxed around humans to be one, that and it's close proximity to the Ranger stated otherwise.

    "Now I really wish I would have brought Zen along!" Akinai remarked to the Blade Pokemon quietly "He doesn't get to see other Gallade pretty often. Maybe you two can meet after this run?" giving a small nod of acknowledgment to the Gallade, she directed her attention back to Jade.

    The Flygon was still gently swaying along side to side, but she seemed to be growing a little bored. The swirls of sand around her seemed to weaken then strengthen back up every now and then, as if she had to remember to keep the waves going. Every now and then the Dragon type would look over at Akinai, waiting for a cue on what to do next.

    Alright, time for some improvisation!
    "Alright Jade, you're doing great so far!" she called out to Jade, trying not to be too loud as to not startle the mesmerized wild Pokemon. "Try to finish it up with a Sand Tomb. Just make sure you don't hit the Kirlia with it."

    Jade, relieved to have something new to do, began to lift herself slightly off the ground with her wings. While doing so, the sand around her seemed to grow more intense, and swirl around even faster. For a moment, she seemed completely enveloped in sand, then slowly began to reappear as the swirl moved downwards. The pressure from this began to make a moderately-sized bowl cut into the sand. This part complete, the Flygon blew away the remaining swirl of sand with her wings, still floating above the bowl, silent except for the shrill beat of her wings.

    OOC: Kirlia gender?

    ~~~~~
    "Now I really wish I would have brought Zen along! He doesn't get to see other Gallade pretty often. Maybe you two can meet after this run?" Akinai asked Dual politely. He remained silent as he looked thoughtfully at her. Eventually he moved away to watch Jade's dance.
    Jade was beginning to struggle with the maintenance of the Sandstorm. Every now and then streams would collide, but eit didn't really matter overall. Jade's confidence was slipping, though, and she kept looking over at her Trainer for orders. Finally, Akinai issued one.
    "Alright Jade, you're doing great so far! Try to finish it up with a Sand Tomb. Just make sure you don't hit the Kirlia with it," Jade called out in a subdued voice, apparently trying to keep hidden form the entranced Kirlia.
    Jade stopped swaying from side to side and gently powered up her wings. A gentle buzz filled the air and she rose softly off the ground. The sand formed into a orb which surrounded her. Slowly, she emerged from the top of the swirling sphere of sand, and as she did so the sphere flattened out into a disk, which stayed suspended underneath the hovering Flygon. Jade maintained this pose for a couple seconds, and then she thumped to the ground and the sand poured outwards like a wave.
    The Kirlia applauded, and moved forward happily to get a closer look at Jade. Suddenly, Dual stepped out from around the corner. He walked purposely towards the Kirlia.
    I sighed. Dual was getting involved again.
    When the Kirlia saw the approaching Gallade, it immediately stood ramrod-straight and didn't move a muscle. Dual stodd in front of it, and both their heads took on a blue aura. I knew Dual was talking psychically to the Kirlia. Finally, he put a hand on its shoulder, and beckoned towards us.
    OOC: Female, please.
    Kirlia wasn't the only one surprised to see Gallade approach. Akinai watched the scene apprehensively, hoping she hadn't of somehow annoyed the Blade Pokemon and it was trying to warn the Kirlia. Even Jade watched the conversation, her tail twitching slightly in annoyance.
    "What's happening?" Akinai inquired to Chainy.
    The only response from the Ranger was a sigh. Seems like his attention was focused on the Gallade as well. Maybe this this situation happened often between the two?
    As the Gallade finished his mental conversation with the Kirlia, the wild Pokemon appeared to become more calm, enough to let the former touch her shoulder with their blade-like arm. With his other arm, Gallade beckoned for the others to approach.
    Jade stayed silent the entire time. While her tail had stopped twitching, she was giving the Gallade an annoyed look, as if she was saying I could have done that.
    Akinai glanced over and tried not to laugh at her starter. While later on she might lightly tease Jade about becoming green with envy, pardon the pun, this was neither the time or place at the moment. She began making her way slowly and steadily towards where the Kirlia was waiting, talking softly the entire time so her appearance wouldn't seem so sudden.
    "I'm glad you enjoyed Jade's performance. We saw your training exercise as we were walking by, and decided to try helping out. Were you able to learn anything new?"
    By the time Akinai had finished, she was standing comfortably next to Jade.
    ~~~~~

    Akinai and I slowly moved out into the open from around the corner. The Kirlia started a little bit, but Dual's reassuring hand held her in place, and she didn't try to resist it at all, which was a good sign. As we got closer, Akinai began speaking softly to the Kirlia in a reassuring tone of voice. While she did that, I held a quick mental conference with Dual.

    So, what's the story with the Kirlia? I asked. Anything we need to know about?

    <Nah, the usual sad story,> Dual replied. <Poor kid's mother got killed by an accidental landslide. Thankfully, she had already evolved, so she's been fending for herself for the last three or so months. She's been practising electric attacks to ward off the local Xatu - they've taken a liking to mobbing her.>

    I sighed. Pokemon could be just like people sometimes - cruel for no real reason. So, what's your plan from here? I inquired of my Gallade.

    <Well, the girl seems like a trustworthy sort, and she already has a Gallade, so the kid would be in good hands,> Dual replied thoughtfully, ignoring the unimpressed look he was receiving from Jade. <Perhaps the kid could follow us around for a bit, get to know the girl some. That way she'd be looked after, and the girl won't need to engage in a battle with her.

    I'll ask her, I said, ending the link. By now Akinai was standing next to Jade. Cautiously, the Kirlia moved forward, until she was right in front of Jade. Suddenly, Jade licked the Kirlia, which started giggling. I turned to Akinai, smiling.

    "Dual reckons the best way to move forward is to just let the Kirlia follow us around for a bit," I said to her. "She'd get to know you, and she might even willingly submit to a capture. Besides, she seems to adore Jade, but it's your call."

    Akinai watched the two Pokemon, trying to think of what to do next. Letting the Kirlia follow them around seemed a bit unorthodox, plus she would probably be unable to recall Jade as well for a while. Plus, what if another wild Pokemon appeared? Problems with this idea seemed to be multiplying by the second. Then again...Jade seemed to genuinely get along with the Kirlia, which was quite rare for the Flygon.

    Heh, who am I kidding? It wasn't like the majority of her other captures were traditional as well. She had discovered Cryrosant when the Aron was chowing down on the silverware in one of her packs, and Zen had found her instead of the other way around. As for Lunaris...well, she still had the bite mark on her backpack to prove that one.

    "Sure, long as Kirlia knows that I might have to de-attach her from Jade if something comes up." Akinai finally responded. "That, and I may have to temporarily recall her." She held up Cryrosant's and Lunaris' Pokeballs. "Uh, does she have any trouble with Aggrons or Mightyenas? If so, we're stuck with the Green Wonder over there."

    Jade twitched a bit at this, but tried to feign disinterest, instead focusing on the Kirlia. She hated to be put in her Pokeball, and her trainer knew it.

    "Sure, long as Kirlia knows that I might have to de-attach her from Jade if something comes up. That, and I may have to temporarily recall her," Akinai said slowly. She then held up two other Poke Balls "Uh, does she have any trouble with Aggrons or Mightyenas?", she continued. "If so, we're stuck with the Green Wonder over there."

    "Well, right now the Kirlia is attached to Jade. The whole idea of this is to have Jade's affection for you rub off on the Kirlia. By the time that happens, you should be able to recall Jade and the Kirlia will be comfortable around you," I explained. "Besides, even if another Pokemon comes along, there's no rule saying you can't have multiple Pokemon out of their Poke Balls at once."

    I turned to the Kirlia, who was busily inspecting one of Jade's wings. "How about it?" I asked the little creature. "Wanna stick around us for a bit?"

    The Kirlia nodded shyly, then hid behind Jade's wings. I nodded at Akinai, and we moved off along the trail. Dual, seeing that I was keeping an eye on the Kirlia, returned to his Poke Ball so there was more room on the trail.

    Akinai couldn't help but grin as the Kirlia tried hiding herself from the Ranger by using Jade's large wings. While both Pokemon were green, they were nowhere near the same shade, not to mention the fact the white coloring on the latter could be seen clear as day.

    Those two are the best of friends already, it seems Akinai mused to herself, watching them travel alongside her as they caught up with Chainy. While the Flygon no longer had Kirlia holding onto her, the latter seemed to be almost a second shadow with how close she was walking alongside the former.

    Jade took it all in stride, trying to stay walking on the ground rather then hovering as she generally did. Sure, the going was slower, but it beat being put back in her Ball! Every now and then she would turn around to see if the Kirlia was still following along.

    "Looks like you're on babysitting duty, Jade." Akinai lightly teased.

    Jade snorted at this, but didn't seem to disagree.

    Akinai promised herself to not use her starter, at least until the Kirlia became more used to other people. If bad got to worse, she could use her other team members... that and Chainy had said that she could have more then one out at a time, granted only one could fight.

    "Take it this happens often?" Akinai inquired, still walking alongside the path. "You and your Gallade seemed to handle things pretty well. I always figured everything was done by battling and nothing else in the Park."

    We all walked along the mountain path, enjoying the cool breeze, silence, and the majesty of the canyons far below. I usually didn't like heights, but they didn't bother me right now for two reasons - I could have Broadblade, my Staraptor, out of his Poke Ball inside three seconds, and I had some technological tricks up my sleeves as well.

    "Take it this happens often?" Akinai asked me suddenly. "You and your Gallade seemed to handle things pretty well. I always figured everything was done by battling and nothing else in the Park."

    I laughed. "Actually, that's pretty far from the truth," I replied. "It's true, most captures are done by battling, like the vast majority of captures outside the Park. But every now and then, a Wild Pokemon just happens to take a shine to a Trainer, or maybe the Trainer wants the capture but doesn't want to battle. Once, one of my Trainers captured a Meditite by building a snowman with it. Another time, a Trainer didn't want a Dratini, but the Dratini kept following him and he ended up taking it with him out of sheer exasperation. Nah, this isn't even the first time this month that this has happened. A couple weeks ago, one of my Trainers rescued a Ralts from a Spiritomb and captured it the same way you're trying to do with this Kirlia."

    I looked over at the Kirlia, who was now inspecting Jade's tail. With a careful bat, the Flygon scooped the Kirlia up onto her back, and she launched herself up into the skies. The Kirlia laughed and shrieked playfully as Jade whizzed around, performing corkscrews and diving through some low-lying clouds.

    "Showoff." Akinai muttered to herself, watching Jade take off skyward. Despite being a Pokemon native to desert regions, her Flygon loved to soar the skies rather then stay grounded too long. She couldn't really blame her though, flying had to beat walking anyday. Gliding the winds, without a care in the world... Realizing that Chainy was patiently waiting for a reply from her, she shook herself out of her reverie.

    "Call me a traditionalist I guess. While I did start my Trainer journey later then most people, I was one of the best at the simulators at school. They always focused on battles, the warning signs on when a Pokemon is about to faint, and type match-ups, so didn't think there was any other way really." she shrugged at this last part "Either way, color me surprised."

    Jade, still soaring above the two humans, appeared to be having the time of her life. Every time the Kirlia shrieked, she would try to add a little something extra to her routine, be it a sudden sharp turn or diving through a new cloud. After a while the Kirlia grew silent, preferring to enjoy the view instead.

    "Whenever you're done showing off, we're ready to go!" Akinai called out to Jade, slightly annoyed. The two had been up there quite a while, and she didn't want to go any further up the path with them out of sight.

    Jade, hearing this, began to make her way slowly down. As she reached the two humans, she tried her best to appear sullen. Perhaps if the two thought she was upset, she would be allowed to fly longer!

    "Don't even try it. I know you were having a blast up there. Besides, don't you think Kirlia would like to touch solid ground now?" Akinai chided.

    Jade reluctantly nodded at this, landing to let the Pokemon down.

    I grinned as Jade flew back towards us, obviously pretending to be upset. Akinai wasn't fooled by it either. She scolded her partner gently, and as she did so Jade lowered herself to the ground so the Kirlia could dismount. She did so, and our group moved forward. I noted out of the corner of my eye that Kirlia still held onto one of Jade's wings.

    After walking for another five minutes, we came to a large opening in the side of the cave. I frowned and opened my PDA, but it wasn't marked on my map. Not surprising, considering we were venturing off the beaten path. I looked up at the sky: the sun was shining brightly, and soon it would get uncomfortably hot. Furthermore, the trail we were on seemed to be heading up as opposed to down.

    "Hey, Akinai, what do you reckon about taking a look in here?" I asked her. "Of course, we can just move on if you want."

    "Let's check it out" Akinai responded. "This trail was getting to be a bit dull anyways. Plus, we haven't seen a single Pokemon since we've been on it except for Kirlia." she shot a glance over to said Pokemon, noticed that it was still trailing closely behind Jade. "Come to think of it, it's odd that she was in the middle of nowhere training using an electrical attack. Wild Pokemon tend to use moves that fit their type, right?" Still pondering this, she dug into her pack to search for her informational guide. Maybe it had a section on this that she had missed...

    Jade noticed her trainer's old habit and gave a sigh. She thought the human had outgrown her annoying habit of looking at her little booklet whenever something new came up.

    "Odd, I can't find it." Akinai said after a minute of searching. She was about to search again when she noticed that Chainy was waiting on her. "Oh....right! Shall we go?"

    Akinai decided to go check out the cave. It was a large cave, so thankfully Jade would fit. But only just. If the tunnel got much smaller, Jade would have to be returned to her Poke Ball.

    We entered the cave, and I noticed out of the corner of my eye that the Kirlia was shaking. She was trying to grasp onto something of Jade's, but in the tight confines of the tunnel there wasn't really anything for her to hold onto. Realising this, she began to shake even harder. Finally, she ran over to Akinai and wormed her tiny little hand inside Akinai's. The shivering lessened, but didn't stop completely.

    I let a small smile creep onto my mouth as I turned on a flashlight and handed it sliently to Akinai. Apparently my plan was working. But it'd be up to Akinai to try to get the Kirlia to join her team. She had to find the right time and the right way.
