Perhaps seven wasn't James' lucky number. Perhaps it was eight. Or perhaps he didn't even have a lucky number at all. It didn't matter now though. There was finally something James was interested in. It only took them going through hell in the rain to encountering a territorial Garchomp to here, this garden where this Minccino stood picking flowers. Still, it was a rest break for Aleria while James took on the grey furred chinchilla.

Speaking of the chinchilla, it had been oblivious to their presence until James released a Pokemon that made Aleria cringe. Jynx. The ugliest Pokemon in existence. A friend of hers, the one who ran Saffron's gym actually, had one, but Al was lucky enough to not see that one. She'd told her friend that if she ever saw the ugly ass Pokemon, she wouldn't speak to her for a week. At least Al's friend had a reason for owning the Jynx; it was a dual typed Ice and Psychic type Pokemon, and Saffron was all about the Psychic types. Why James owned a Jynx was beyond her, but she didn't really care. She just hoped the battle would end quickly so that she would go back in her Poke Ball, and Al wouldn't have to see her for the rest of the run. Hopefully, anyways. The Minccino had dropped the flowers it had been picking when Jynx came out; it had been surprised by their presence, and that would probably work out to James' advantage quite nicely.

Fake Out was the first move Jynx was to use after it was done making those horrendous duck faces that Aleria had the unfortunate pleasure of seeing all over her Facebook page. She had to resist the urge to not comment on every duck face picture she ever saw and say "you look like a fuckin' Ducklett." It would be a well deserved insult if Aleria ever gave it to someone. But not today. Instead, she watched as Jynx ran towards the Minccino and clapped her hands on both sides of the chinchilla's face. Minccino flinched, as expected. It was still surprised by her, James, and the Jynx's presence that flinching was just a natural reaction. Jynx moved back as the chinchilla shook its furry head, trying to focus on the battle at hand. Jynx's eyes started to glow purple, and a matching purple aura surrounded the Minccino, catching it by surprise once more. Minccino floated in the air for a moment, but then the aura burst away from the chinchilla, and it fell to the ground, shaking its head. Psychic was an interesting move.

But Minccino recovered much more quickly from Psychic than it had from Fake Out. A look of anger crossed over its face as it stomped towards Jynx and slapped her with its tails once, twice, thrice, four times, and five times before stopping and retreating back to its pile of flowers that had fallen from its hands. A total of ten slaps were given, Aleria had counted; it was a move she'd recognized as DoubleSlap. Clearly Minccino was upset that such an ugly Pokemon had an upper hand on it; Al would be too. This was her kind of Pokemon.

Jynx lunged forward and smacked the Mincinno with her hands as planned. It appeared that our little strategy worked and the Mincinno definitely seemed quite startled by the sudden attack. This allowed Jynx the time she needed to perform her Psychic attack. She closed her eyelids and made a singing sound, holding a certai high-pitched noise for a few seconds before stopping. Suddenly, her eyelids darted open and she was completely focused on the Mincinno. A purple aura seemed to envelop the startled Mincinno and he soon found himself floating up a little from the ground. Suspended mid-air for just a few seconds, before the aura faded with a tremendous popping sound. Mincinno was flung to the ground, but the soft well-maintained grass broke his fall and saved Mincinno from serious injury.

The Mincinno looked relatively unharmed as he climbed back up onto his feet and took an adorable fighting stance. Without a moment's delay, he charged forward. Arms flailing wildly, the Mincinno leaped up into the air and smacked Jynx across the face with its furry little paws. The little rodent was moving lightning-fast, so it was hard to tell how many time he had struck her. It looked to be about four or five times though.

"How dare that ugly little monkey slap you. Slap him back with a Wake Up Slap! But, when you get close enough to the Mincinno, I also want you to blast him in the face with an Icy Wind. He won't like that one bit... especially if he gets frozen!" I commanded the now riled up Jynx. Jynx took on the same fighting stance as the Mincinno had and began hopping from one foot to the other in order to brace herself for the attack. Wake Up Slap was a Fighting type move and would thus be super effective on the little Normal type Pokemon.

When Jynx would be at a close proximity, Icy Wind would be quite powerful and especially being fully blasted in the face. Mincinno was quite fast, but nowhere near as fast as Jynx so I was certain she could pull this one off. He'd also be even slower after an Icy Wind.

 

BP #6

Aleria hadn't had the honor of seeing the entirety of James' battle with the Volcarona he'd captured, so this was her first time seeing an entire one of his battles. He and his Jynx were going for brute force this time, rather than the weakening of the Pokemon slowly, but surely, until it was captured. The battle was bound to end much faster this way. Still, she didn't even care how long the battle took, not that it was something she'd voice aloud. This was the first Pokemon James had wanted to capture since the Volcarona. She was actually cheering in her mind, something she'd make a reality when she got home.

"I think it's a chinchilla," Aleria commented when James called it a monkey. She shrugged. Minccino had started to sing a song, which was really just her repeating the name of her species in a melodic tone. Still, as the Jynx moved to use Wake Up Slap, she felt herself moving slower and slower until she stopped. The Jynx laid down on the ground and closed her eyes, allowing sleep to take over. Minccino chuckled as she snuck up on the sleeping ugly Pokemon and gave her a couple slaps to the face. Jynx shot up, knocking Minccino back a bit, and the Icy Wind she'd been told to use escaped her mouth. The chinchilla shivered as the cold breath hit her fur; not even her grey fur could keep her warm from this. Still, this was a crafty Minccino. Aleria smiled; this was going to be an interesting battle to watch.

"I think it's a chinchilla," Aleria commented after I gave the battle plan to Jynx. Of course... how could I be so foolish?!

Jynx slammed into the little fuzzy chinchilla Pokemon with the palm of her hands, leaving a red mark on Mincinno's cheek. As Jynx retreated a little readying herself to blast the Mincinno with the Icy Wind attack, Mincinno seized the opportunity. Opening her mouth wide, she began to sing. The sound reached Jynx's ears and I could see droziness take overy Jynx as she wall filling her mouth with ice-cold powder, ready to blow it in the Mincinno's face. Jynx seemed to grow sluggish rather quickly and soon found herself lying down on the ground as an apparent fatigue took over. But, I knew that Jynx was a tricky little Pokemon, and this was a typical game of hers.

What she'd do was feign to be hurt or incapacitated in some way, for example asleep, then as the opponent let their guard down and drew closer, Jynx would strike. As a matter of fact, this was the main strategy behind her fake tears attack. And, to be honest, it worked out quite well for Jynx for the most part. Here was no exception as the Mincinno, possibly driven by curiosity and a desire for vengeance, approached the Jynx, giggling all the while. Jynx suddenly popped up and blasted the Mincinno with an ice cold Icy Wind move. The Mincinno got in a Wake Up Slap of its own, but staggered backwards nonetheless.

Even though this battle had not been going on for very long - nowhere near as long as the Volcarona battle had last, anyway, I felt as though it was almost time to attempt a capture on this Mincinno. One more move should put it at quite a weak stage, and then I could lob a Super Ball at it. They worked better than Park Balls, after all.

"Alright, Jynx. Focus your mind and strengthen yourself with a Nasty Plot. This will give you the power needed to put the Mincinno at a much weaker state with your Ice Beam. Then I'll throw this Super Ball at it."

I looked to see that Jynx had begun to prep herself, ridding her mind of any and all distractions as she braced herself for a much sharper and calculating mindset that the Nasty Plot move offered. Then she would fire a boosted Ice Beam at the Mincinno. I pulled out the Super Ball and steeled myself. Just after the Jynx sent the blast of ice shooting from her mouth, I would throw the Super Ball and hopefully capture this Mincinno...

To be honest, Aleria was a tad surprised that Jynx could be just as tricky as the Minccino she was fighting. Maybe Sing hadn't worked as well as Minccino thought it would, but it seemed like it did. Jynx was a tricky Pokemon. Yes, yes, it was. Still fuck ugly though. That wouldn't ever change. Al listened as James told Jynx what to do next. He was already ready to capture this chinchilla. The brute force strategy had worked after all. This was definitely a much faster battle than the one with Volcarona. Then again, each battle prompted a new strategy.

Jynx focused her mind, and Minccino used the opportunity to get another DoubleSlap in. Five times her tail struck Jynx's face. Unfortunately for the Minccino, Jynx was readying an Ice Beam. The beam of cool ice left Jynx's mouth as Minccino landed from hopping back to her flowers. The chinchilla cried out, but she didn't have too much time to react. A Super Ball had collided with her body as soon as Ice Beam came to an end. The ball only shook once before the chinchilla popped back out. Still, James didn't have too terrible luck. The ball had only rolled underneath the bush that the Pokemon had been picking flowers from earlier.

"The ball rolled under that bush there," Aleria said, pointing to it. "You can try to grab it now, which might be a tad risky, or you can just use another ball. I think it'll be fine to use once you get it though."

Jynx was readying the Ice Beam as Mincinno took the opportunity to attack with a Double Slap, which smacked Jynx around five times. Jynx, however, was unphazed by Mincinno's pimp-like behaviour and released the Ice Beam attack without any delay. It struck the little chinchilla-monkey in the chest, knocking her back a little. I took this moment to throw the Super Ball at the Mincinno, but after just a single shake, the Mincinno popped out of the ball. The ball was knocked under the bush Mincinno had been picking flowers at just a few minutes ago.

"The ball rolled under that bush there," Aleria said, pointing to it. "You can try to grab it now, which might be a tad risky, or you can just use another ball. I think it'll be fine to use once you get it though."

"Hmm. Jynx, let's try put this Mincinno to sleep with your Lovely Kiss attack. Then I'll lob my other Super Ball at the Mincinno. Sounds like a plan, right?"

Jynx nodded, before she began her attack. Her mouth opened wide and I knew that several chemicals were being mixed right at this very moment in Jynx's body. These chemicals, if they hit, would send the opposing Pokemon to sleep. Jynx liked to introduce this chemical to the host through their lips, carried in the saliva as a medium. As Jynx moved to perform her very lovely kiss attack, I flung the second Super Ball at the little rodent.

 

BP #8

The horror on Minccino's face when the Jynx approached it was priceless. Lips puckered up, full of Arceus knew what, ready to kiss the living daylights out of that poor chinchilla. She was so horrified that she couldn't even more to avoid the Lovely Kiss her opponent had given her. Instead, Jynx kissed Minccino's forehead, and the combination of the horror, the excitement of the battle, and the attack, but mostly the attack, had made Minccino curl up into a little ball and fall asleep.

Poor Minccino. She had to work with that ugly ass thing once she was captured. Aleria felt bad for her, and she knew there was going to be some tension between them at first.

With the chinchilla asleep, James threw a second Super Ball at the Pokemon. Unable to do anything about it, Minccino was sucked back up into the ball. This time, the ball shook not once, not twice, but three times before clicking shut. Aleria approached the ball and picked it up, putting it into her bag. She reached under the bush, grabbing the first Super Ball James had used, and tossed it to him. "Catch," she said as she threw the ball. "Did you want to continue on?"

Jynx was able to get close enough to plant her big soggy wet lips on Mincinno's forehead. The Mincinno found herself fall asleep almost imediately, and I took my opportunity to capture this fearsome beast. I tossed the Super Ball, that conked the little fluff mon in the head, and sucked him inside. It landed on the ground and began to roll. After three shakes, it stopped and pinged a little, signaling a successful capture.

Aleria picked up the ball from under the bush as she was picking up Mincinno's ball. "Catch," she said as she threw the ball, which I of course expertly caught. "Did you want to continue on?"

"Yeah, let's find some cool crap," I replied, eager to find at least one more cool Pokemon to add to my collection.

 

NBP #11

With the Minccino captured, Aleria had a new goal in mind. Find a third, and possibly final, Pokemon for James to try and capture. She wasn't sure how many Pokemon they'd have to encounter before James found something he was interested in, but she hoped they did find something. Anything. Even if it was the stupidest Pokemon on the face of the Pokemon world. Two Pokemon would be good, but three would be even better. And four would be excellent, since those going on Engima Ruins runs were allowed to take out four Pokemon. James was halfway there with his Volcarona and Minccino captures.

They didn't get very far before a curious, bouncy blue ball with three cotton spores appeared in front of them. It spotted the flowers and curiously bounced over to them. The Jumpluff picked the flowers up with its small hands and held them out to the trainers, bouncing up and down. "Want a Jumpluff? Or maybe you could take the flowers from it?" Aleria asked with a chuckle.

We moved onwards after the successful capture and I could feel a slight desperation coming on. Two Pokemon out of like 14 so far really didn't show that I wanted to be here at all. When in fact I loved the Park and how you could potentially encounter just about anything here! A blue creature with white cotton hands floated down from above after us walking for a few moments.

"Want a Jumpluff? Or maybe you could take the flowers from it?" Aleria asked with a chuckle.

"Hmm. I could use the flowers. I think they'd look great in my hair," I said, loling in my mind. Hopefully Aleria would think it funny and not that I'm a weirdo. Well, actually, who cares! "Yeah, I already have a Jumpluff though. This cool little guy can give us his flowers and fly away! Or I'll pay for a pokedoll if needed with y 29,750 dollahs."

 

NBP #12

Jumpluff continued to eagerly bounce up and down in front of James and Aleria, who was resisting the urge to not laugh at James' comment about putting flowers in his hair. She eagerly held out the flowers to Aleria as she tried to move past the excited Pokemon. "Money, please," she said, holding her hand out. Jumpluff wasn't letting them pass, therefore a doll was needed. Transaction completed, Aleria put the five hundred Poke Dollars in her bag and dug out a Growlithe Poke Doll. She gently tossed the Poke Doll to the excited Jumpluff, and it was apparently a Pokemon who feared nothing because as soon as that doll hit the ground, it went to play with it.

They continued onward, and the greens with varying shades of other colors swirled around them and turned into varying shades of blue. Aleria frowned as she noted the blues. Blue meant water. If it was raining, she was going to quit. She'd get her last paycheck and walk out. There was no way in hell she was going to get soaking wet again. But the blues formed into water and ice, with James and Aleria standing on an ice island. Nearby was a slope that a mid-sized walrus slid down, splashing into the water. It looked up at James and Aleria on the ice island, peering over the edge at the trainer and ranger pair with curiosity. "Want a Sealeo?"

"Money, please," she said, holding her hand out. I grumbled a little and handed over more of my precious money. These pesky Pokemon demanded their Pokedolls... what would they do without me? After the simple transaction, the Jumpluff received a Growlithe doll and began to twirl energetically. In an excited state, the Jumpluff picked up the doll and begin to spin around again, spinning as it floated away from us.

"Okay..." I said watching the Jumpluff disappear as the colours began to fade and were replaced with different shades of blue. The environment molded to form an icy ledge. I looked over to see a blue walrus slide down a slope. The Sealeo looked up at us expectantly, eyes big and round... Curse those puppy dog eyes.

"Want a Sealeo?"

"Never. I already have a Wally. I now have 29,250 if I need to pay anymore to escape."

 

NBP #13

First they were in the territory of Pokemon James didn't want. Now they were in the territory of Pokemon James already owned. First Jumpluff, now Walrein, the evolved form of the Sealeo before them. Hopefully they wouldn't go through eight Pokemon again before they ran into something James wanted. The less, the better. The Sealeo turned around and swam back to the icy slide, now disinterested in the pair. But it wasn't long before their environment changed again. Not too much changed though. The icy slide melted and formed more water, and the icy island became a sandy beach.

Off to the side was their next encounter, a bored beached whale. Blue on top, cream on the bottom, Aleria recognized it as a Wailmer. Looks were deceiving when it came to this little guy. It was little now, but when it evolved, it became a big ass Wailord. "Want a beached Wailmer?"

As I watched, the environment began to change once more. The icy slide that was there previously changed into a deep blue of the sea, and I soon realised that we were surrounded by water. The ground beneath our feet had changed from that of treacherous and slippery ice to soft warm sand. The climate had also changed, I noticed, feeling the warm rays of the sun on my back. It was amazing how the Enigma Ruins could just change itself at a moment's notice and even though this was my first trip of many to the Enigma Ruins, I was certain that this mysterious and enigmatic place would bring many rare and unpredictable Pokemon and environments. It truly was a remarkable place to frequent.

I suddenly took in the many sounds around us. The choppy waves against the coast was not the only sound and I soon became aware of a recurring gasping sound. Perplexed, I examined the beach, looking for the source of this unusual sound. I spotted a large blue shape just a little ways up ahead. As we approached I recognised it as a Wailmer, and Aleria did too apparently.

"Want a beached Wailmer?" she asked. I had to think about it for a few seconds before I realised that hell yeah, I wanted a Wailmer. Who wouldn't want a combination of chubby whale and beach ball?

"Yeah, this little fellows going to be challenged to a duel!" I declared. Froslass didn't really get much light earlier on versus the Volcarona but maybe this was her big moment. "Fross come out and teach this little whale some manners!" I announced tossing the Pokeball. Just a few moments later as the silhouette began to fade I decided upon our moves. The dual typed Ice/Ghost Pokemon looked at me craftily. This Froslass was one of my most clever and tricky Pokemon and I knew that she'd love to try and swindle and confuse this foe with everything that she could.

"Froslass, let's play trickily! Let's use your Spikes attack to set up a layer of spikes, a very dangerous entry hazard, on the soft beach sand. That can act as our booby-trap if you will. Then we'll use Psychic to blast the Wailmer back into the Spikes causing serious damage to this big ol' tub of lard."

Psychic was a very useful and interesting move, especially in the National Park where creativity could be extremely helpful in Pokemon battles. Psychic allowed the using Pokemon to channel into their mind and engage in telekinesis and control over other Pokemon. This move would allow Froslass to enchant the Wailmer, raising it up a few feet above the sand and flinging it down onto the Spikes. Spikes itself was pretty self-explanatory. The user plants several sharp objects all concentrated in one particular area. This part of the battlefield then becomes a danger zone where anything that enters it or is knocked into it by any means suffers and loses serious health. I figured that my strategy was pretty cleer, but I had no idea how it would work out... or even whether it would work out at all.

But for now, why worry about that stuff when I could be fantasising about what I'd do with my Wailmer. Suddenly, hundreds of romantic images flooded through my head. In one such image, myself and little whaley were walking along this very beach as the sun began to set in the background. A flock of chirping Wingull fly by, cawing all the while. "Isn't this so romantic?" I ask, and to which my lover replies "arrph." Then I continue walking, rolling my sweet sweet love along.... Ahhhh.... Such perfect dreams.

Aleria silently cheered in her head when James said he'd catch the beached whale. Perfect. She'd succeeded in her goal for the day. If she could assist James in finding a fourth and final Pokemon, then she was going to go home, invite all of her friends over, and have a loud party until the Officer Jennys put a stop to it. For now, however, she would have to focus on getting him through the remainder of his Engima Ruins run.

Mental cheering aside, Al watched as the Froslass set up a nice layer of sandy brown spikes. They blended in well with the sandy environment they were in. Tricky Pokemon was tricky. She needed to get some of these Pokemon for herself. Then again, none of these Pokemon were Fire types, and there was a special place in Al's heart for the Fire typed Pokemon. They were just that special to her. Wailmer tried to roll over to avoid the oncoming Psychic attack, but he instead found himself rolling in mid-air as Froslass' attack lifted him up into the air. The resulting blast sent him tumbling into the spikes and then rolling for a bit before coming to a stop. Shaking his blue and cream body, he let out a large burst of water that caught the Froslass off guard, striking her and knocking her back a bit.

Froslass' arms darted forward as she unleashed her Psychic attack. As to be expected, a purple aura enveloped the large blue Wailmer and he began to rise slowly off of the ground. Froslass' face contorted with concentration as she tried her best to lift this very heavy Pokemon with ust her mental prowess. However, Froslass was quite a strong-minded and well able Pokemon, so she eventually got the Wailmer to rise up a few feet from the ground below. Wailmer, in the meantime, began swirling and twirling around, spinning in the purple bubble as if trying to knock it over... or maybe the huge beach ball was just having fun rolling around in this giant sphere above the beach.

I grinned a little, looking from the huge whale with a broad grin plastered onto his face to my Ice and Ghost type Froslass struggling to keep the big brute afloat. Suddenly, the bubble burst and the Wailmer was flung a few feet backwards and onto the sharp spikes she had placed there just a few minutes earlier. The spikes consisted mainly of twigs, rocks and other such debris that Froslass had placed there from the beach just a few moments prior to this. As the Froslass had planted the spikes down, Wailmer looked on eagerly, unaware of what was going on it had appeared.

Wailmer rolled back over onto his front and looked over at Froslass. He still had the silly grin on his face and I couldn't help but laugh at how ridiculous this big blubbery Pokemon was. It was just too cool, and I had to have one myself. Wailmer's large mouth dropped open and as Froslass peered into the big dark abyss, a torrent of water shot out. It passed through the air and above the sand, smacking Froslass right in the mid-section. She grunted a little, but the attack hadn't done too much damage and she looked relatively unharmed by it overall. Looking at the Wailmer once more, I noticed that he too looked quite unharmed from the damage he had taken from both the Spikes attack and the Psychic attack.

"Hmm Froslass. Your attacks didn't really seem to do all that much damage now, did it? Never mind though. We'll just have to play smart about this now. Let me look up your moveset again," I said to Froslass, who nodded at me. I flung the backpack from around my shoulder onto the sand and bent down. I quickly unzipped it and began to root through it precariously, looking for the ultradex guide I had just recently purchased. My hand grasped onto something hard and leather-bound, so I yanked it out. The small pocket-book opened up at my command and I began to ruffle through it for Froslass' page. "Ah, yes. Here we go," I muttered.

"Astonish, Bite, Blizzard, Captivate, Confuse Ray, Crunch... Hmm none of these seem very good... Ah, yes. How could I have forgotten such an obvious move. Froslass, let's smack this Wailmer with a Thunderbolt attack! It is Super Effective and will surely do a lot of damage!"

Thunderbolt was a highly powered Electric type move that was Super Effective on Water type Pokemon, which this particular Wailmer was. Well, all Wailmer were really, I suppose. It's not like they could just change their type at will like a Kecleon or a Castform or something.

 

BP #10

Aleria couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at James as he flipped through a book called the Ultra Dex. She knew what it was; it was the source for all moves that Pokemon learned in this world. All six hundred some odd Pokemon, and all however many moves they knew. It was a pretty thick book. Aleria had one of her own at home; she used it to memorize the moves of her new Pokemon. Not that she had gotten any of those recently. She wanted to focus on training the ones she already had, even though it would be rough.

The bolt of lightning from the sky struck Wailmer as he bounced up into the air. The bolt sent him straight back to the ground, bouncing gently until he finally came to a stop. He shook his head and bounced up into the air again. High up in the air, he moved straight to Froslass, landing on the Ice and Ghost type Pokemon. Wailmer rolled off of her, but he still wore a goofy grin on his face. At least now he was on the other side of the spikes. That was a good start.

Froslass' hands spread apart and some electrical energy began to circulate around her hands. She allowed the energy to increase in momentum and size as it was forced together by her to create one large sphere of electrical energy. Before the Wailmer could do anything but gape at Froslass like a confused fish, the sphere of electrical energy that was the Thunderbolt attack shot forward and crashed into the Wailmer. Wailmer was sent rolling backwards a few meters. When he stopped rolling, he looked up and began clapping with his large fins and I found myself smiling at this silly little... well big, creature.

The Wailmer leaped up high into the air after the Froslass had fired off Thunderbolt. He soared through the air surprisinglly elegantly as he headed towards Froslass. I was wondering how on earth such a heavy Pokemon would be able to thrust himself so high into the air like that and have control over himself, when he landed. His colossal body slammed into Froslass and she let out a cry. Falling away from her, he hit the soft sand and once more began to roll away from me and my Froslass.

Yeah, this Wailmer was good. Even though he appeared very dopey and round and loveable on the offset, he also seemed to be quite clever. He was able to minimmize the damage that my Pokemon were doing and he was dealing back some heavy blows at the very same time. I would have to try out a combination of moves in order to have a shot at beating this Pokemon to low enough health points that would allow for me to capture him. I had to think for a moment about what moves to use. I remembered that the Ultra Dex had said that Froslass could learn Crunch, which she learned as a Snorunt, if I recalled correctly. This move would undoubtedly be handy if I could get Froslass close enough. At a close proximity, she could latch onto the Wailmer hard with her strong jaws and then blast him with a Thunderbolt from such a close range. This strategy sure as hell was risky since at such a close range, Wailmer would be able to deal damage non-stop to my poor Froslass, but it was definitely a necessary step I felt.

"Alright, Froslass. Here's the plan," I started off by saying. "Firstly, I need you to begin storing up your Thunderbolt from a distance. When that has reached a significantly high level, I want you to charge forward and latch onto the Wailmer with your fangs through your Crunch attack. When you have become fairly latched into place I need you to first paralyze the Wailmer by overwhelming him with weak jolts of electricity before you blast him with a powerful Thunderbolt."

I gave Froslass a few minutes to think it all over. It would be quite hard to pull off no doubt, but I knew it was worth the risk. If all went to plan, Wailmer would be hurt by the sharp crunching of Froslass' fangs, paralysed by the Thunder Wave attack and then really damaged by the Thunderbolt attack... I sure hoped that it would work.

I could remember back to the last time I had used a Thunder Wave attack at such a close proximity. Some of the details were definitely a little fuzzy as it happened such a long time ago, but it had also happened in the National Park like we were here today. If I was remembering correctly, my Jolteon had been sent out at the time and he was facing a very threatening Seviper. I had made some unfortunate and risky plays that had lead to Joleon being in a difficult situation that was hard to get out of. Jolteon was trapped by the huge Seviper, who had used its Wrap attack. Seviper's surprisingly large and agile body had wrapped around Jolteon after he had gotten too close to it, and Seviper used her torso to crush Jolteon more and more.

Jolteon was being crushed to the point that I had actually seriously began to fear for his safety. The Ranger at the time, someone who I don't really remember now, had said that it'd all be fine and that no permanent damage would be done to Jolteon. But I could tell that that was not so. Jolteon's body was being mangled as we spoke. His feet were being smushed by Seviper's powerful body, as was his stomach. As Jolteon's lungs were being crushed, he could not breathe very well and I could see his face beginning to turn a little blue as a result of the oxygen deprivation. I had to act fast, and thankfully I did. I commanded Jolteon to fight the pain and to try his best to release a burst of electricity. Jolteon made an electrical field from all the energy he had pent up, and used it to shock the Seviper. As her grasp laxxed, he wiggled free. And then, Jolteon got his revenge.

Controlling the electricity as only Electric types knew how, Jolteon twisted ad molded the electricity to form a sort of cage around the Seviper. The strong electricity trapped the Seviper from all sides and if Seviper tried to move, she would be shocked painfully. Seviper ended up succumibing to paralysis and was unable to resist anything as Jolteon got in one or two more wide-ranged attacks (he didn't want to get near to that Seviper anymore... and I really don't blame him). Then, unable to move or do anything, I took the opportunity to nab the Seviper. I chucked the Park Ball and sucked the baby in. Next thing you know, I was adding Seviper to my PC and it was a strong part of my team.

 

BP #11

As Aleria watched the battle, she couldn't help but feel bad for the Wailmer after what had happened next. It wasn't that she felt bad because the Pokemon was getting beat up because that was necessary for a capture. No, she felt bad because the Wailmer had curled up into a ball and started spinning in place, kicking up sand.

He used Rollout, and it would have been much more effective had Wailmer not rolled into Froslass' waiting jaw.

He quite literally rolled into it. Poor blubber. He stopped spinning when his body collided with Froslass' fangs, but the onslaught didn't stop there. Wailmer wasn't entirely stupid. Well, maybe he was. Aleria wasn't quite sure. But when the electrical current meant to be Thunderbolt left Froslass' body, Wailmer pushed away with a well timed Hydro Pump into Froslass' mouth that split the Pokemon apart. Wailmer rolled into the spikes that had been set up, and Froslass had been knocked back significantly.

Except Wailmer had learned something new today. Water attracts electricity. So when that seemingly well timed Hydro Pump knocked the two apart, it traveled along the powerful stream of water and struck Wailmer. He was back to square one. And even worse, his body shivered as he tried to move. Paralysis had struck. But it had struck Froslass as well. Even she was being forced to adjust to the attack. The only difference was Wailmer had taken the worst of the attacks, and Froslass, being a stronger, more experienced Pokemon, was bound to adapt faster to the paralysis than the young Wailmer was.

Still, Aleria felt bad, but this was a learning experience for them all. Al could only form two words at what just happened. "Crafty Wailmer."

As Froslass readied herself and allowed her jaw to open up surprisingly large, Wailmer commenced movement. I was a little perplexed to see the giant blue whale Pokemon begin to spin around in the sand, kicking up grains of sand all around him. I wasn't quite sure whether he was performing an attack or just playing around in the sand. I eventually realised that this Wailmer was just playing around... and was in fact retarded it seemed. I sighed as Froslass advanced, almost feeling sorry for the blubbery guy. Wailmer bounded forward, straight into Froslass' ready jaws. Her teeth pierced his hide and sunk in. Wailmer wriggled around a bit, but Froslass was firmly locked onto the Wailmer thanks to her jaw strength and firm grip. However, Wailmer seemed to actually use his wits, leaving me just a little perplexed about this Water type for not the first time during this battle.

His mouth opened up to release a huge jet of water. The force of the water knocked Froslass back and she loosed her grasp on Wailmer. This seemed ingenious for a moment, and I was quite stunned. That is, until I saw the Thunderbolt coming through. It was too late to d anything as the electricity shot through the water stream and right into Wailmer's mouth. Wailmer yelped with pain as he fell onto the cushiony sand. Froslass howled a little as the water-soaked cloak of hers had allowed her to become a victim of the electricity she had used just moments beforehand.
