    Bambi re-emerged in a flash of red light. He looked well rested, and the roar that he gave out confirmed that he was ready to help his master catch this Chansey. I saw Jake looking between the Wild Pokemon and his Houndoom speculatively, probably trying to decide which attack to use. I knew he was partial to Inferno, but the Chansey was weak, and it probably wouldn't be able to withstand the burn for long.

    “Bambi. We need to focus on Poisoning. I want you to really charge up this Smog attack and when you release it, make it more of a focused shot than a general spray. Remember to make it thicker and more dense than normal.” Jake said calmly.

    Bambi nodded, and took a deeth breath. He opened his jaws wide, and a thick purple fog broiled out of his mouth. It was almost like watching a waterfall of smoke - it followed a low arc towards the Chansey, small droplets of poison dripping out onto the stones and sizzling as they began to eat through them. The Smog completely enveloped Chansey, and the parts that flew past her landed on the stones behind her, which also began to sizzle. I wasn't too worried about environmental damage, though - Smog was one of the weakest Poison-type moves there was, so the poison would fizz out before it could get into the earth.

    After dousing the Chansey for a good fifteen seconds, Bambi closed his mouth and snorted. The Chansey stared daggers at the Houndoom, but began to cough. It then made a choking sound, and threw up a vile pool of purple liquid onto the ground in front of it. I could tell by the coughing and the slight tremors running through its body that the Smog attack had indeed poisoned the Chansey.

    However, Jake must have overlooked one of the Chansey's techniques. It was well known for being a healer Pokemon, and one of the things that healers did was cure status afflictions. The Chansey held its arms in front of it, in a prayer-like gesture. A white sheen of light began flowing up from its feet, covering its body like a suit of spandex. As the softly-glowing cover moved upwards, small patches began to glow purple, as poison particles were located and absorbed. When the glow had covered Chansey's entire body it faded away, taking the Poison with it.

    Once the Refresh had finished cleansing the Chansey's body, the Chansey trilled happily. It then focused back on the battle, looking all over the Houndoom that was staring at it defiantly. Its small right arm started to glow bright white, and it ran towards Bambi holding the arm high in the air.

    The Smog attack made calamitous contact with Chansey and enshrouded her completely. She was unseen for about 15 seconds while Bambi relentlessly poured from his maw. I stared at the mound of purple smoke. Finally, the smoke dispersed and Chansey was revealed. She was definitely poisoned. Her skin had bulges of infected veins in random placed and her eyes were bloodshot beyond any zombie that I had ever seen depicted. She began to cough and then retched up a gooey mass of poisonous material fizzing onto theground in front of it. She wiped her mouth and glared up at Bambi. I was surprised despite myself. This Pokemon had been chipper and high-spirited throughout the entire battle. It didn’t seem to be one to get angry at someone. However, it could just be really hard to get it angry.

    Before I had time to comntemplate this, though, the Chansey began to hold up her hands like a prayer. She hummed and the earth around her glowed in refracted yellow light. I had forgotten. Chansey knew most all healing moves known to Pokemon. It was another one of the factors that made it a fantastic Pokemon to have around Pokmon Centers. The glow crept up her body until it was completely covering her and then shattered into a rainbow mist, revealing Chansey as good as new.

    Yeah, I wasn’t happy.

    I clenched my fists at my side. Bambi had sent a fantastic Smog cascading at the Chansey and it had been a direct hit and now she just healed herself nobigdeal? I don’t think so. The Chansey was about to see what kind of power my Houndoom really had.

    I glanced around at the surrounding area for assistance in the environs. Most of the bubble mines were still floating ominously in the air around Chansey’s side of the clearing. Yeah, that’s it. Speaking of Chansey, she was now running towards Bambi with a glowing fist. She was preparing another physical attack. I gritted my teeth and called out an order to Bambi.

    “Bambi, use Foul Play to dodge Chansey’s attack and throw her towards the Bubbles. Then use Thunder Fang on the Bubbles to amplify the power fo your attack. Focus on Status, remember!” I shouted at Bambi. Immediately he got down in a prepatory pose. His fangs began to sparkle bright yellow in preparation for the Thrunder Fang. I visualized how i meant for this to go down.

    As Chansey got within range, Bambi would fasten his iron jaw onto her body and use her momentum to turn and toss her right back at the swarm of bubbles. By then he would be well charge up with his Thunder Fang attack. He would release a spray of electricity at the bubbles and they would burst. As well as the mere explosions causing damage to Chansey, the Bubbles would magnify the power of the Thunder Fang attack and ultimately provide a decent chance for paralysis. Paralysis would hopefully inhibit Chansey’s healing powers enough so that she would be prevented from using Refresh.

    As Chansey got within range she jumped in the air and brought her hand down towards Bambi. Bambi pulled one of his paws back in preparation for a spin. He pulled up his lips to reveal the menacing teeth that were well prepared to grip Chansey...

    Jake didn't look very happy at the Chansey's trick. His fists were clenched and shaking a little bit, and although I couldn't see his face I was pretty sure he was gritting his teeth. Perhaps he was realising that this capture was about to get a whole lot harder considering he wouldn't be able to inflict a status condition on the Chansey.

    Jake raised his head and barked at his Pokemon, “Bambi, use Foul Play to dodge Chansey’s attack and throw her towards the Bubbles. Then use Thunder Fang on the Bubbles to amplify the power fo your attack. Focus on Status, remember!”

    Nope, he was still going for that status.

    I watched as the Chansey weaved inbetween the floating bubbles, holding its glowing hand high. Bambi was also preparing his attack - his jaw was open and as he snarled at the Chansey as electrical energy sparked and fizzed around his open mouth. When the Chansey was clear of the minefield, Bambi darted forward and grabbed its roly-poly belly in his mouth. He planted his foot and turned around, trying to spin the Chansey about him. The Chansey started slapping him against his ribcage, but the attack wasn't very strong and Bambi paid it no mind. He spun and hurled the Chansey into the minefield. The Chansey clipped two of the floating bubbles, which exploded like tiny hand-grenades. I was quite surprised by the amount of power they contained.

    Bambi dashed forward and barked towards the Chansey, and the bark contained small sparks and bursts of electricity. Some of the sparks hit a couple of the hovering mines, detonating them and spreading the electricity further. The mines kept exploding, being triggered by the extra force provided by Bambi's Thunder Fang. The whole network went up inside a huge misty-white fireball, in which small strands of amplified electricity danced. It made for an incredible sight.

    As the pseudo-fireball devolved into soft mist, I cast an eye around for the Chansey. I saw it standing in the middle of the field, panting, hands on its knees. It certainly looked worn out, but not paralyzed. I hoped that Jake would attempt the capture soon, because I don't think the Chansey could last much longer.

    I’m a such a gangster. Even my typos are gangster.

    I watched as Bambi fastened his jaw upon Chansey’s midsection and whipped vicously around. Caught off guard, the Chansey was only able to get in a few weak hits on Bambi’s red undebelly before being tossed pell-mell back at the crowd of Bubble mines. Chansey flipped and rolled through the air and bumped tw of the bubbles. They exploded with the force of a small bombo and released its mist like smoke and fire from a normal mine. Just as Chansey was about to strike the ground, Bambi released splashes and pulses of electricity from his maw with a foceful bark. The yellow jolts danced through the air like some translucent toys caught in a powerful gust. Self-propelled, they made calamitous contact with multiple bubbles towards the front. These bubbles released a general spray of more electricity upon detonation wich triggered a large, misty chain reaction (haha) of which Chansey was caught in the middle.

    I steadied myself against the powerful force waves that emanated from the side of the clearing above which the explosive mess was taking place. It was a truly odd experience. I had been present for Pokemon moves that mimiced explosions before so I wasn’t unfamiliar with the sonic waves, but the lack of heat and rather the cool mist that enshrouded the clearing was really quite bizarre. I felt as if I should shield myself against the fire that normally emanated from such attacks, but I knew that there would be none. I squinted my eyes against the obscure mist, but otherwise made no attampt to protect my body from the attack.

    The electicity evaporated into thin air as the last of the bubbles was destroyed and the mist began to clear right away. It didn’t truly permeat the air as it had before, but it did obscure my vision a small amount. As it did clear, however, I saw the Chansey bent over double on the ground and huffing heavily. It was definitely one move away from fainting and didn’t look like it was up for the rest of the fight. I knew if there was a time as any to capture it, it was now.

    “Bambi, use Leer to keep it still,” I calmly remarked as I reached into the outer pocket of my backpack. I removed a Hyper ball and held it in both hands. I pressed the center button with my thumb and it swelled to normal size, about half the size of my fist. The fading sunlight glinded on the bright red ‘H’ that was superimposed on the front of the ball. I rubbed a thumb across the fron tof it and looked up just in time to see Bambi perform the cationary attack.

    From what I had heard from park officials, Pokeballs for the park were more sturdy than normal Pokeballs. Normally, a Pokeball would break upon failing to capture a Pokemon. However, a Park ball and its more powerful variants would survive multiple failed captures upon breaking. However, Pokemon in the park were more volatile than those normally in the wild. Park balls were built to sustain being blocked by moves or powerful opposing limbs that would knock them away. Pokemon were prone to dodge or it away Pokeballs that were thrown at them in the park. I ordered Leer as a precaution against this.

    Bambi pulled one of his lips back and locked eyes with the Chansey. Growling slightly his eyes glinted ominously and reflected an inner fire and rage. His eyes shined and made me my stomach turn slightly. Leer was a move that was meant for predatory Pokemon, Pokemon that struck fear into the hearts of others with their mere appearance. Bambi was definitely a predatory Pokemon.

    Without even waiting to see Chansey’s response, I raised the Hyper Ball to my mouthfor a moment and then cranked my arm back far. With the precision of a professional baseball player, I beamed the Ball at the Chansey. The ball cracked slightly open and released its red energy like a net as it rocketed towards Chansey. I crossed my fingers and bit my lower lip as I waited hopefully for the capture...

    OOC: Aww dude, that sucks. Ah well, you'll cap it next post. Just remember, there is literally no point in weakening it further.

    ~~~~~
    “Bambi, use Leer to keep it still,” Jake said as he fished around in the outer pocket of his backpack. The Houndoom lowered its centre of gravity by spreading its legs further apart, and it shot a look of pure predatory intent at the panting Chansey. The Normal-type quailed, and backed up a couple steps, too afraid to get close. I couldn't say I blamed the Chansey - I refused to look at Bambi's face lest I get scared myself.
    Jake pulled out a Hyperball, probably a wise choice. Chansey were renowned for being hard to catch, although I doubted this one would be able to resist a capture seeing how tired it was. They were quite rare in the professional battling leagues, not because of their lack of strength - in fact, they were highly desired Pokemon - but because they were very hard to catch, and even harder to evolve from Happiny. By catching this Chansey, Jake would be on the way to having a strong team of Pokemon.
    He assumed a baseball post, and ditched the HyperBall as fast as he could towards his target. The sphere cracked across the battlefield, the red plasma spilling out before it even made contact, which I had never seen before. Perhaps it was an advanced tracking feature of the HyperBall, I didn't know. I made a mental note to tinker with one later.
    The ball collided into the Chansey's stomach, cushioned by the red energy. The Chansey was converted into this energy as well, and all of it was sucked inside the HyperBall, which fell to the ground. It rolled around on the dirt as the Chansey fought the capture mechanism.
    Surprisingly, the HyperBall snapped open, releasing a flash of white light. It arced through the air, landing back in Jake's hand with a solid thwack-ing sound. The Chansey was on its knees, panting hard, but I was incredibly surprised that it had managed to break free of the capture device. This had to be one of the hardiest Chansey of all time.
    Chansey was converted into a shapeless blob of red energy upon contact with the projectile capture device. The storm of red was sucked within to the shiny innards of the Hyper ball before it shut with a satisfying click. Landing softly on the ground, it rocked back and forth as if it were possesed. I held my breath, silently running my tongue along the front of my upper teeth in impatience.
    The Hyper Ball suddenly burst open to release the red miasma within, which quickly took the form that I knew all too well. Chansey appeared from the red energy huffing and puffing from the struggle. The Hyper Ball itself flew from its spot on the ground straight back into my hand. I laughed sardonically.
    “Eh, I like ‘em feisty anyway.” Bambi was standing stock-still in front of me and I contemplated having him use Growl once again to halt any attempt to run or dodge before dismissing it. This Chansey had initiated the battle and never once had shown signs of wanting to escape before; I don’t really know why I decided to use Growl in the first place.
    I tapped the Hyper Ball against my chest silently for a moment and then retraced my hands previous path in the air only moments ago. Leaning far back, I cranked my hand into a pitching position and then threw the Pokeball back at the Chansey with all my might.
    After it had made contact and sucked in the large pink Pokemon, I stood up straight and crossed my arms. I furrowed my eyebrows and stared at the rocking Pokeball, only hoping for the best.
    I was afraid that Jake was going to get angry - Trainers sometimes did when their capture attempts failed - but he took the random turn of events quite calmly, simply stating, “Eh, I like ‘em feisty anyway.” He polished the HyperBall on his chest before throwing it in the exact same way he had before. The HyperBall flew through the air and re-absorbed the Chansey before falling onto the ground.
    It wiggled from side to side as the Chansey fought the device once again. This time, however, it wasn't able to resist. A red light shone brightly from the sphere as it locked down and the Chansey was captured. I walked over to pick the ball up and I stowed it in the side of my pack.
    "Congratulations on your Chansey capture," I said.
    I shaded my eyes and looked up into the sky. The sun was just about to set. I pulled out my PDA and opened the GPS system. We were about two hours' walk from the entrance, so we'd best move it if we wanted to get out in time. I led Jake into a jog - hopefully we'd encounter something cool on the way back.
    A faint click and almost indiscernable flash of red in the sharply angled light from the sunset indicated my successful capture. Chainy paced over to the ball and placed it comfortable next to the Munchlax in his side pocket.
    "Congratulations on your Chansey capture," he said.
    I grinned and placed a calm hand on Bambi’s head, enjoying the warmth I felt there. Petting softly, I turned to look at the fleeting sun and sighed. This was a nostalgic time of day for me. I loved the sunset more than anything, and the sight of the sun comfortably in between the mountains Deckbi and Oktori with a bed of lush greenery below it was breathtaking, but I never could help the feelings of lost potential during this time of day. The only time I ever felt differently was when I knew something lay beyond that horizon, a party or a person awaiting my presence. But then again it could have just been my human nature.
    I returned from my thoughts back to the clearing with a bit of a start. I walked over to Chainy to see what function the small, cell phone like device served, Bambi plodding along obediently at my side. I stood at his side for a moment, just long enough to catch a glimpse of a neon green graph and map of the island with coordinates, tempuratures, and various other measurements with which I was less familar. He snapped a cover closed on it and looked up. He pointed at a thin path into the forest from where we stood and began to jog lightly towards it. I joined him through the forest. The harsh light flashed in my face through chinks in the wood. We trotted silently for a while.
    I noticed several things during our jog. Some Noctowl flew silently overhead and landed in a patch of trees somewhere to our left. A Raticate and her Rattata scurried out of the way of the path and into a burrow under a wizened tree stump as we approached. This was a time when many Pokemon were looking for their places to sleep through the cold night, but many others viewed the night as a time for waking and exploring. The air was soon buzzing with the saccharine thrums of Kricketot and Kricketune melodies. Activity was growing and I hoped that some of that would amount to a fairly decent last encounter. We rounded a bend in the bend and I noticed a shadow of something ahead. I slowed for a moment to wipe some perspiration from my brow and then looked to Chainy to see whether it was sufficient as an encounter or not...
    OOC: I ended it cos there's nothing more you can really do. Have fun with your new Pokemon!
    ~~~~~

    Jake grinned and patted Bambi, silently thanking his Houndoom for its hard work in this battle. Bambi's eyes softened a bit and his tongue lolled out slightly - he was clearly enjoying the attention from his Trainer. Both Jake and Bambi walked over to me as I put my PDA away. I led them both in a brisk walk away from the pond, hoping that we'd get back before night fell completely.

    It was a good time to travel, though. The nocturnal Pokemon were just coming out, which meant that Kricketune music drifted through the air, weaving haunting melodies as the different tunes mixed and complemented each other. However, they were often interrupted as the musician had to scramble for safety to avoid being eaten by a predator.

    We turned a corner and Jake took a quick stop. I took the opportunity to look around, and I saw a rustling bush up ahead that was casting a definite shadow. I shot a sideways look at Jake - he definitely saw it too. We walked towards it together, Bambi growling slightly at the shaking bush. Before I could reach out and open the leaves, a small familiar pink form rose up into the air, giggling happily. It was another Mew.

    "Wow, two in one expedition, that's rare," I said to Jake, who nodded.

    The Mew swirled around us a couple times before beginning to glow bright white. I averted my eyes, but I saw that the rest of the world was glowing white too. I closed my eyes and covered them with my hands, but even that couldn't block out the piercing brightness. A slight wind ruffled my hair and my coat, and the brightness began to fade. I dropped my hands and opened my eyes, and to my amazement I saw that we were at the entrance to the Gardens. The Mew must have teleported us back!

    "Well, that was lucky," I said to Jake as I handed him the PokeBalls containing his hard-won Pokemon. "If you hurry, you might catch today's last ferry from the docks.

    He nodded again and turned to run away into the twilight, his faithful Houndoom following him and breathing small tongues of flame into the air. I smiled and turned, heading into the Outpost with another successful Expedition underneath my belt.
