    Jake saw the Sentret watching us from up in the tree. He then shook his head and his hand, indicating that he didn't want to try and capture it. I nodded acknowledgment, and continued panting for another minute or so.

    When I had finally got my breath back, I hocked up a huge spitball on the ground and cleared my throat. "Man, I hate running," I said wryly, "but at least the Grotle has gone. Come on, let's move on."

    We moved on into the forest. My GPS screen notified me that we were traveling around the forest, not going further in nor going out. For now, that was fine with me. I was just about to ask Jake what he wanted to do when I heard some thumping in the tree above me. I looked up, and I saw the Sentret. It grinned at us, and climbed down the tree.

    "I think it wants to battle you," I said to Jake. This Pokemon was more nimble than the Grotle, so we wouldn't be able to outrun it. Jake would either have to battle it or buy a Poke Doll to get away.

    OOC: thanks again for keeping this open!

    The Sentret was bouncing and smiling at me. I smiled right back at the adorable pokemon. It sure was energetic and it looked like it would be a good companion. But I wasn't really up for Pokemon of that nature right now.

    I looked back over at Chainy and said, "Here I'll buuy another Pokedoll from you for this youngster and we'll get along."

    I shelled out some Pokebucks and recieved the Pokedoll. I kneeled down and scratched the Sentrets head before handing it the doll. It looked quite curious and began to poke it distractedly, soon becoming completely immersed with the doll and forgetting about me.

    I stood back up and cast my eyes around the trail. There didn't look like a clear path from here so I pointed in a direction that smelled the nicest and said, "How about that way?"

    OOC: No problems, man. Glad to see you around again.

    ~~~~~
    "Here, I'll buy another Pokedoll from you for this youngster and we'll get along," Jake said to me. I nodded and took the cash before passing him another doll. He bent down and patted the Sentret gently before placing the doll in front of it. The little Pokemon was mesmerised, and started poking it gleefully.
    Jakes stood back up and cast a look around. I knew what he was doing - in our haste to get rid of the Grotle, we'd completely lost sight of the path, which was no easy feat considering the plots of plant-life in the Gardens weren't very big. I cast a quick look around - it didn't bother me which way we went. If we stayed in a straight line we'd eventually find our way out.
    Jake raised his arm and pointed in a direction that was roughly ninety degrees to the way we had come. "How about that way?" he asked.
    I nodded. "Sounds fine," I replied, and led him away from the Sentret, who was now trying to teach its new friend to bounce on its tail.
    After perhaps three minutes of walking, we came across another Pokemon. A small Oddish was walking on the ground between two bushes, probably trying to find some lunch. It hadn't seen us yet, so I indicated it to Jake and shrugged my shoulders, asking him silently if he wanted to try and capture it.
    I chuckled at the Sentret as Chainy said, "sounds fine," to my request.
    I had chosen a random direction because we had lost the path running away from the Grotle earlier and Chainy had a GPS. Still, although we could find our way out pretty easily with the GPS, I was pretty unnerved that we were in some really harsh landscape. It's interesting. People, including myself, don't really consider how difficult it is to travel across dense botany. The plants were less thick than at the woods area elsewhere in the island, there it would be perilous to travel at all off path, but they still were difficult.
    We had been travelling for a while. It was getting a bit hotter and slightly darker as the day progressed, but nothing really to worry about. If we kept at the rate we were at, I would be out of the park with three fresh and new Pokemon before midnight. I had gotten a few scratches on my hand from blocking shrubbery in the way, but it was better than my face taking the hit.
    Chainy paused and pointed to two small bushes. It took a while for me to adjust to the non-moving greenery after travelling, but soon my eyes focused on to a small bulb-like Pokemon. The Oddish was poking at one of the bushes insistently, as if trying to shake something loose. It was adorable.
    I smiled at it. This is why I loved going to the island. I loved witnessing nature at such a pure level. I really didn't want to disturb it at all, and I hoped it wouldn't really pay any notice to me either.
    "Let's move on, I don't really want one of those."
    "Let's move on, I don't really want one of those," Jake said to me, and I nodded. Not many people came to the Gardens specifically for the purpose of catching an Oddish. Besides, this one looked perfectly happy as it was, poking around in some shrubs.
    We began to sneak around it, making sure to keep its back to us. Unfortunately, as we were doing so, Jake stepped on a fair-sized twig, and a resounding crack echoed throughout the trees. The Oddish spun around and saw us, and it did something strange. Really strange, especially for an Oddish.
    It's face took on a snarl, and it growled ferociously at us. This was one pissed-off Oddish, and I'd never ever seen an angry one before. I took an instinctive step backwards as it began to walk menacingly towards us.
    "I think you should probably buy this thing off," I said nervously to Jake.
    OOC:Rabid oddish. I lol'd.
    So if you've ever seen an Oddish, you know that they are about a foot high with the leaves on their head. The body itself is only about five inches from stumpy feet to the beginning of the leaves.
    Now, this Oddish didn't look much different form any other Oddish I had seen, at first. One of my early science teachers had taught me that although we may percieve species of Pokemon and plants to be almost indiscernible from one another, they have the same amount of differences as humans. The reasons humans tend to overlook these, it because we are tuned in to "human" characteristics. Different anatomy looks the same for us.
    That said, if you saw this Oddish as it was looking at us, you would know that it was different from any other Oddish. To be truly (and embarassedly) honest, the first word that came to mind when I saw its face was 'badass'. It sounds funny, sure, but you should have seen it.
    Firstly, its eyes were red, something that I had never seen in an Oddish before. Its next most prominent feature was the gnarly scar tracing the underside of its "belly" all the way up to just above its left eye. Its teeth were bared in a nasty snarl and its pose was not encouraging.
    I agreed right away when Chainy offered, "I think you should probably buy this thing off," and I obliged by quickly exchanging some bills for a doll and rolling it slowly at the rabid Oddish.
    I waited either for Chainy to tell me it was safe to go, or for the Oddish to whip out a woodland can of whup-ass on us.
    awwww yeah
    MY STREAK CONTINUES
    ~~~~~

    Jake passed me another wad of notes, and I handed him another doll, this one shaped like a Mawile. Making no unnecessary movements and being careful to go slow, Jake bent down and rolled the toy towards the growling Oddish. Its eyes narrowed as the plush Pokemon got closer and closer, and it stopped right in front of the Grass-typed Pokemon. It took exactly as long as an eyeblink for the Oddish to pounce on it and start tearing it to pieces with its teeth.

    "Go, go, go!" I said urgently to Jake, pushing him in his lower back. We stumbled away from the pissed-off Wild Pokemon, getting as far away as possible. The jog I forced us into lasted for perhaps ten minutes, until the unusually angry Pokemon was far behind.

    We took a quick rest - well, I couldn't keep going and panted while leaning on a tree for a little bit. As I did so, I cast a look around - we were actually on the edge of a clearing, and right in the middle of the clearing was a huge apple tree. A gravel path wound around the base of the tree and led to the left of the clearing - we'd found a path!

    But the good news didn't stop there. I saw a small dark blue blob moving off the ground then returning to it with a thump. I used my visor to zoom in - it looks like Jake's luck had finally come in. The blue blob was a Munchlax, jumping up and down in an attempt to pluck an apple off a low-hanging branch.

    "The Munchlax you came here for is just over there," I wheezed, barely able to lift my arm. "Go over there and start the battle - I'll be along in a minute."

    You..
    are so sexy...
    *fondles your dice*

    My insides jolted and I barely contained a squeal by shoving a fist into my mouth when I noticed the Pokemon.

    I must have looked comical doing a silent victory dance in the small clearing, but I really did not care whatsoever. I just could not contain my joy. Besides, Chainy was the only one around and he didn't care. Speaking of Chainy, he had recovered a bit slower from the run as he was not aided by a big adrenaline rush, and he finally got vertical. So caught up in my joy, I hugged him tightly and, as it took me a little too long to realize, awkwardly.

    I released him grinning and turned to finally consider the Pokemon in the terms with which I had come here.

    It was struggling to reach a big apple placed just out of reach on a low branch. I was filled with sympathy. The poor Munchlax had been struggling this whole time and I hadn't even noticed. I looked back at Chainy, and then strolled with purpose over to the branch and the Munchlax, picking the juicy, red fruit off of the tree, and handing it to the dumpy Pokemon. From what I knew about the gluttonous but sweet spieces, was that they loved food and hopefully this would be seen as an act of kindness to help me get closer to it as a trainer.

    I moved the fruit towards the Pokemons hopeful face...

    OOC: Lololol, as long as that's all you're fondling, buddy.

    ~~~~~
    Jake's hand shot to his mouth to suppress a squeal of delight, a feat he only partly succeeded at. Caught up in the moment, he performed a strange little circle dance and then hugged me fiercely. I laughed - it was good to see someone get excited, especially in the Park.
    Finally getting a hold of himself, Jake walked over to the tree branch and picked the apple off, offering it to the Munchlax. He moved it slowly closer, being careful not to make any sudden moves. There didn't seem to be any danger of the Munchlax running off, though - it happily took the apple from the human. It had a big bite, devouring easily one quarter of the whole apple, and then it took another. Finally, it held the apple over its mouth and dropped it in, crunching satisfiedly. It then nodded its thanks to Jake and took a few steps away from him but didn't run.
    "I think it's willing to battle you," I said to Jake as I approached him from behind. The Munchlax nodded, agreeing with me.
    OOC: Oh, it was a euphemism. So you can take it however you like.
    I was overjoyed at the prospect. I loved to battle, and battles ending in captures were my specialty. My brain hummed as I mulled over my Pokemons' movesets, natures, and battling preferences, and formulated a plan. After a few seconds I was ready, excited and confident, to get this party started.
    As I reached for Bambi's Pokeball sitting securely on my belt from the first battle and positioned myself on the opposite end of the clearing as the Munchlax, I turned to Saline and said.
    "Bambi's going to go first on this one, but I want you to stay out just in case something goes astray with a fire move. You have permission to douse fires without my prompting, just don't attack the Munchlax and do not interfere with the battle without my command, OK buddy?" Saline nodded vigorously in understanding and sidestepped next to the apple tree in the shade in wait.
    "Ok Bambi come on out and start it off with Nasty Plot for later and Smog to cover your moves!" I tossed the ball onto the gravel and it let loose a giant, red flash, which threw our battlefield in to sharp relief. I noticed Chainy off to the side watching attentively.
    As Bambi's form began to crystallize from the red blob of energy that had been released, the flash suddenly dropped from dashing red to ominous burgundy. Despite the chill that trembled down my spine at the aura now over the clearing, I smiled slightly at my Houndoom's initiative and haste to start the battle off quickly and gain the upper hand.
    Bambi's tail quivered as ethereal, bruise-colored tendrils grew like a ghostly fungus all over his body, and flailed in some nonexistent wind. It reminded me of a Japanese movie about demonic hate possessing the corpses of gods. Shadows in the meadow seemed enlarge and (did my eyes decieve me?) Bambi's horns grew a miniscule amount. His features sharpened and he threw open his eyes as the tendrils disappeared.
    A snarl still etched upon his face, he breathed in sharply through his nose. I heard a small rumble like a distant explosion in the space of silence. He released his jaw and sent a cannon of toxic air soaring and spreading towards the Munchlax. The air immediatelly smelled like some terrible combination of pepper-spray, rotten eggs, and hydrogen peroxide. My skin tingled uncomfortably. I shielded my watering eyes and noticed an apple off to my side, shrivel and fall off the branch to which it was attached. I wiped the tears from my face and looked up to try and see what the attack had done to the Munchlax...
    OOC: I don't know how to take it lol. I'll go with... flattering? Also, Munchlax gender?
    ~~~~~

    Jake stepped backwards, and I moved off to the side where I could get a clear view of the battle. He whispered something to his Empoleon, which had followed us quietly this whole time, but I didn't know what it was. He then pulled his his other Poke Ball and Bambi reappeared in a flash of red light.

    "Okay Bambi come on out and start it off with Nasty Plot for later and Smog to cover your moves!" Jake called.

    Bambi growled as he emerged from the ball, and he took on a dark aura. He snarled at the Munchlax and small fires temporarily burst out of his mouth. It almost looked like he was standing in a black hole - space itself appeared to be warping around him. I was actually a bit scared, and the Munchlax was too. Its eyes went wide, and it curled up into a ball to hide its eyes from the evil Dark-type Pokemon that was its opponent.

    Once Bambi was in the right mindset, he took a deep breath and exhaled a huge plume of purple smoke. It moved reasonably quickly across the clearing towards the apple tree, expanding as it went. I wasn't quite sure what the Munchlax would do in response, but I soon found it. It exploded out of the cloud, rolling like a soccer ball right towards Bambi.

    OOC:perfect. And male please

    I pumped my fist into the air and whooped.

    "Awesome job, Bambi. Really stunning delivery!" Bambi's tail perked and he looked happier from my words, but didn't look at me to stay focused on the battle.

    Most of the Smog was still on the battlefield just as I had planned. The only thing was, I didn't see when the Munchlax came hurtling out of the cloud in a blur heading streaight for Bambi. The rollout attack was clearly powered up by a defense curl and due to its typing, it would hurt Bambi pretty bad if I didn't do something. Fortunately I was familiar with the move and knew that it was pretty inaccurate. If I could get him to do a move that was tricky, hmmm...

    "Bambi, melt into the shadows with help from the smog for cover, and then go for Foul Play to knock it off of momentum!" I had not even finished and Houndoom had skirted into the smog leaving a puff of displaced, toxic atmosphere it his wake.

    Munchlax was confused a bit but didn't stop moving. It bounced off of the apple tree, and began to roll in circles to maintain the strength of the attack in preparation for Bambi's return.

    A growl resonated from the puff and I realized what was happening. My Houndoom was storing dark energy and formulating the best way to use Munchlax's attack against him. It was an interesting interpretation of my command. I had told him to 'melt into the shadows', but I didn't expect him to draw on the residual power of Nasty Plot to aid in his consideration of how to pull off the move.

    Suddenly, Bambi jumped out of the cloud of smog, a jet black streak, and landed right in front of Munchlax in a defensive position with his head low to the ground. Munchlax began to throttle towards Houndoom with a newfound vigor. Then Bambi did something I did not expect: he scooped up with his head at the last moment and sent Munchlax spinning up in to the air.

    My mouth gaped as I watched him jump straight upwards at the rising blue blur and grab on to him with his teeth! Munchlax's tremendous momentum pulled Bambi spinning up through the air with him, creating a lopsided, dark-colored smear in the sky above us. I shielded my eyes against the now sharp-angled sun and tried to keep my eye on the speedy interaction. They reached the paramount of their rise and began the perilous decline. I held my breath and mentally crossed my fingers. This would be the most difficult and important moment of the move.

    They screamed towards the ground like a smoking coal, and I hoped Bambi had considered this part well enough to pull it off...

    OOC: Remember, you can't control the Munchlax's movements.

    ~~~~~
    "Awesome job, Bambi. Really stunning delivery!" Jake called out and pumped his fist into the air. Bambi wagged his tail a little bit, but didn't look back. He was too busy concentrating on his opponent. Jake realised this, and called out his next command, "Bambi, melt into the shadows with help from the smog for cover, and then go for Foul Play to knock it off of momentum!"
    Bambi barked, and managed to dodge the spinning blue ball as it whizzed towards him. He then plunged into the purple cloud of Smog, using it to hide. The Munchlax turned around, and began rolling towards the fog. Bambi then burst out of the smog, covered in a dark aura. He lowered his head and flipped the hapless Munchlax into the air before jumping after it. He grabbed his opponent in his teeth, and pushed it into the ground, using the Munchlax's weight and his own to damage it.
    The Munchlax wasn't helpless, though. It smashed into the ground and cried out in pain, but its left fist started glowing white. It brought the glowing fist crashing into the side of Bambi's head, knocking the Houndoom away. The small blue and white Pokemon slowly got to his feet, and began to shuffle around. I thought that maybe some poison had got into its system, but then I heard a thundercrack. I looked to the sky and saw that some dark stormclouds were gathering. The Munchlax wasn't stumbling around because of some poisoning, it was summoning rain using Rain Dance!
    OOC:I was trying to form my move around its move creatively while maintaining the potential to receive some damage from its move(while they were falling, either one could have hit the ground first). At least, that's how I saw it. Though I still realize that I was controlling it too much. I'll try not to bunny it anymore.
    I grinned at my Houndoom, working so hard had paid off. As they hit the ground spinning, Bambi managed to make it out on top, and smash Munchlax hard into the ground. Dust and fragments flew out from the heavy impact and I swore that I could feel it in the ground. A sickening crunch emanated from the place where they hit and it seemed as though it had hurt the Munchlax pretty bad.
    However, I realized I was mistaken when the Munchlax swooped up and wielded a glowing white fist in Bambi's direction. A flash pulsed from a bruise, that had bloomed brilliant magenta on his cheek and forehead, at the glowing fist, which began to glow brighter. Before Bambi or I could react, he smashed the fist hard on the side of Bambi's head. The blow was so drastic that it knocked my Houndoom further than it seemed Munchlax should have been able to do, considering the conditions. I cried out in unison with the whine that Bambi let out in response to the Counter attack. Bambi was struggling to recover from it on my left as Munchlax took a small breather and stood back up in my center vision.
    "C'mon Bambi! I know you can recover from this! No attack is strong enough to beat you!" Bambi unclenched a single eye to gaze up at me. Then, he relaxed and calmly pulled himself together. A large looking scratch ordained his stern face and a few other, less severe ones were scattered on his back and legs, but he looked as if he was ignoring them. I winced slightly as he walked. Bambi usually did this. He tended to really not let me know when he is hurt. His nature was just that way. I considered a bit and then decided to keep him in for maybe one or two more attacks, and then either heal or switch him.
    While Bambi was recovering, it seemed that the Munchlax was feeling the bad part of the previous move. It staggered to the left and then forward and then to the right and then... Wait, was there a pattern to its clumsy meandering? Yes, Munchlax was doing some sort of odd dance. My mind snapped immediately to Totter Dance and I closed my eyes to prevent the effect from spreading to me, but then I remembered that Munchlax was incapable of learning that move. My eyes flashed open dangerously and I reevaluated the dance. Suddenly, I noticed some clouds accumulating in the sky. A flash illuminated the small puff and soon after an impressive crack entered the clearing. The Munchlax was performing a Rain Dance!
    I needed to act quickly before the rain began to affect Bambi's moves and ability to remain at his best outside. The air seemed to crackle with urgency as I called out to my prideful Pokemon. This was the moment for which I had planned the whole battle. And if I didn't act quick, it would be ruined.
    "Bambi, it's time to unleash the move of the battle! You know what to do!" Bambi nodded and I turned to Saline, "Be on extra watch for this one, it's gonna be a biggie."
    I was reminded of something else as I took a deep breath and coughed harshly. Perfect... The Smog that had been set on the field in the beginning was essential to this move's success. The thing I was reminded of was Chainy and me. We were still standing on the edges of the thick cloud of toxic air. I called out,
    "Chainy, we should back away for this one."
    He looked at me a little strangely and cocked his head slightly, but did as I had suggested. Once we had stepped to the safe outskirts of the plume, I peered as far as I could into it, to see if I could spy the goings-on of the battle. Though they were now foggy images, I ascertained what was happening.
    Munchlax seemed to be continuing his dance and Bambi stood off to the side, stock still and stiff as a board. I bit my lower lip in nervousness and crossed my fingers. This was a difficult maneuver that I had seen in a casual battle with the Elite Four trainer from Johto, Karen, and her infamous Houndoom.
    Poison is a tricky thing. Koga has taught me that, although it seeps into veins and causes trouble, it also works in harmony with fire. These two elements converge to create dark effects.
    We had trained on this for hours after seeing its power and ability in a battle and I hoped as hard as I could that it would now pay off. I had planned an Inferno-Smog double threat, having learned that the Smog both helped the strength of the move, as well as upping it's chances of hitting the enemy.
    In the silence of the preparation I noticed a glow filling the clearing. I was a bit confused at first. Then I noticed its source. Houndooms eyes, and red snout and belly were heating up to their full potential, something that for Bambi's species of Pokemon, was quite often dangerous. Another, louder, crack resounded from the clearing and I could tell we were seconds away from being drenched with a torrent of rain.
    I let out a cry in reaction to what happened next: a flame, of which equivalents had only by me been before seen in movies and video games, burst forth from Bambi's gaping maw and engulfed the air right above the Munchlax. However, I was forced to look away from the enormous flash and explosion that then inhibited my vision of the Pokemon. Every molecule of poison that had littered the air before, was now consumed and incinerated by the fire. I was probably overreacting about the size of the explosion, because it couldn't have been that big to still be able to fit inside the small clearing without hurting me or, I really really hoped, Chainy, but to me, it was larger than life.
    I uncovered my face, which was now probably powdered with soot, to see how the move had gone down...
    OOC: This post was fine ^^
    ~~~~~

    Jake called out encouragement to his Houndoom as it slowly picked itself up off the ground. I didn't blame it for taking its sweet time - it had caused an awful lot of damage to the Munchlax with its last combo attack, and all of that damage had just been returned with interested by a super-effective Fighting-typed attack.

    Just as Bambi got to his feet and stretched his muscles back out, Jake seemed to realise what the Munchlax was doing. "Bambi, it's time to unleash the move of the battle! You know what to do!" he called out before muttering something to the Empoleon standing next to him. He then turned to me and said, "Chainy, we should back away for this one."

    I nodded, and took a few steps back as Bambi took in a deep breath. I hoped what Jake was planning wouldn't do too much damage to the surrounding area: I'd hate to have to escort him from the Park for vandalism. His record wasn't too good as it is: barely five Encounters in and he'd been responsible for the destruction of a bench, bin, and the Grotle had probably carved a path through the forest plot as well.

    I pushed the morbid thoughts aside and looked back over to the battle. Dark clouds gathered amongst the sky, and I could hear thundercracks, but they were still pretty far off. The rain hadn't started yet, but I knew it wouldn't be long now. I heard another crack, but this one was closer. Perhaps a minute away. It'd probably be good to get some fresh water running through here - poison smog from Bambi's earlier attack was still lingering around. For some unknown reason, Pokemon-conjured water was anathema to Pokemon-conjured poison.

    I noticed that small spurts of fire were dripping from Bambi's nose and tightly-clenched mouth. I looked over at the Munchlax: it had stopped dancing at was staring at its opponent, seemingly confused. Well, it looked confused - it was scratching its head. I was just about to intervene to check that the Houndoom was alright when it finally began its attack. A HUGE fireball, easily the size of the Houndoom itself, roared through the air towards the Normal-typed Pokemon. But that wasn't all. It ignited the pockets of poison gas it passed through on the way, adding to its power and causing the sound of the roaring flames to triple in volume. The explosive force pushed outwards like a shockwave - my coat flapped backwards and damn-near came off.

    The fireball reached the Munchlax and started to dissipate. I used my Aura Reader to check on the Pokemon, but I didn't need to worry. As the flames died, I could see that it was still okay, but I could also see that it was favouring its left arm - it has probably been burned by the massive attack. No, the more immediate worry was the ten or so trees whose branches had caught alight. Rain began to drip down, but the torrent wouldn't be here for another minute or so, and by then the fire would be too deeply entrenched to be put out by mere rain, especially considering it was powered by the remnants of the Smog attack.

    OOC: :-D :-| :eh: :banghead: :dumb: :dodgy:
    That is all.

    The blast had echoed loudly, smashing in to me with the force of a whirlwind. The first thing I did when I looked up, was check on Chainy; I really hoped that the attack hadn't reached him. The smoke dispersed relatively quickly and I saw Chainy looking windswept but otherwise okay. I let out a breath that I hadn't realized that I was holding, and allowed my brain to place its focus elsewhere.

    As I looked back at the wreckage, multiple emotions flooded me within a quite short amount of time. Bambi was looking out of breath and standing across from a clearly injured Munchlax, whose right arm hung pretty limply to the side with a tatoo-looking burn on it. I swelled into a prideful pose, grinning broadly at my Pokemon's hard work. The next emotion to fill my conciousness was panic. Some of the branches on the trees in the clearing were burning quite well, and by the time the rain that had been conjured by my opponent arrived, it would be too late to douse them. The blazes burning on the trees would be my fourth strike and one-way ticket out of the park for damage to the park if I didn't do something quickly.

    "Bambi! Come back! Saline, Whirlpool from where you are to suck the oxygen out of the air and drench these trees! Focus it low to the ground to hit Munchlax and not the weak trees!"

    Bambi tried to conceal his considerable injuries and was sputtering sparks into the air from his nose ionto the air in an attempt to hide his belabored pants as he trotted back to me. I sighed and held out a comforting hand to pat his head as he approached. He let out a soft sigh as his head finally reached my palm and I softly stroked the sore side of his head.

    "Relax now," I muttered at him, and allowed myself to return my attention to the battle.

    Saline had stepped forward menacingly and was glowing a neon blue. The color rippled and pulsed toward her beak mysteriously. She looked as if she was turning onto an angry, electric sea-storm. She looked towards the darkening sky and pointed her beak high into the air with her fins aerodynamically splayed at her sides. She cried as she released her beak and the pressure of water as well. A small tornado of water was spinning viciously above her, emanating random pulses of water and wind outward. One hit me and I winced at the salty taste in my mouth and on my eyes. Bambi retreated into the brush behind me for protection, trying not to let me notice. Suddenly, Saline flung the water spout with expert precision out onto the battle field towards the boundaries of the clearing.

    As it began to approach the first burning tree, it crouched lower to about five feet and became fatter at the same time, beginning to look more like the classic whirlpool, only not in water of course. As it swung around to each tree, it splashed water upward constantly on its route as well as sucking the fire downwards.

    I spied a look back at Saline to see that the neon blue was now shining brightly on her eyes, not only completely obscuring them, but sending smilarly colored flares of energy flowing upward like ominous smoke. This was a technique that I had seen before in her. When water-type Pokemon used Whirlpool on land, they had to put a lot more effort into controlling the attack psychically.

    Once the Whirlpool had finished its circle to all of the trees it began to spin more furiously and a flare of blue flashed brighter from Saline. The thin base of the attack was digging a small, dug-up depression in the ground. It travelled in rapidly constricting circles around the Munchlax, encroaching on its space by the second...

    Jake took a look around, and seemed to be in awe of the power of his Houndoom. The awe quickly faded to panic, though, as he realised that he had inadvertently set over a dozen trees on fire.

    "Bambi! Come back! Saline, Whirlpool from where you are to suck the oxygen out of the air and drench these trees! Focus it low to the ground to hit Munchlax and not the weak trees!" Jake ordered.

    Bambi trotted back to his master's side, and I could tell that he was tired. Small jets of fire flared out of his nose as he returned to Jake's side - when he arrived, Jake patted his head and comforted him.

    I was more interested in the Empoleon, though. It stepped forward, and as it did so, the sky finally began to deliver on its promise of rain. Big fat drops of water fell from the sky as Saline began her whirlpool attack. A small blue twister appeared on the ground in front of her, growing in size. Falling water was also sucked into the vortex, making it grow larger and larger. As it grew, Saline used her flippers to guide it through the air, passing it alongside the fires on the trees, putting them out.

    As the Empoleon steered the now-massive attack towards the Munchlax, I saw that it was chewing something, but before I could see what it was the Whirlpool crashed into the blue Pokemon, trapping it within its depths. I cast a quick look around to check on the fires - the combination of the whirlpool attack and the rain had put almost all of them out, and the rest would die out shortly.

    I looked back at the swirling vortex of water just in time to see a huge finger of lightning start to spear down towards Saline from the heavens. It was happening so fast I didn't even have time to yell a warning.

    ...What?!?! I'm dying to know what I inadvertently did? And you forgot to add the defense bonuses for Stockpile.

    ~~~
    Just before the Whirlpool hit, I noticed the small Pokemon holding its arms to its sides and, well, becoming a bit fatter. It was apparently using Stockpile and it became more sturdy as it did. I only caught a glimpse after that of it raising its hands to the sky with a yellow glow radiating from them. The Whirlpool hit and Munchlax was hidden.
    I looked with panic at Saline. She was about to be struck by some unknown electric attack and I needed to think quickly; if she was hit, there was no telling whether she would survive due to her typing. I quickly whirred through information mentally as the world seemed to slow down.
    Something occured to me. I remembered the introduction paper to the National Park. It was a pamphlet that dictated tips for trainers entering the park. It was talking about battle tricks to improve survivability:
    ~|~Tips for Battling in the National Park~|~
    (1)Some Pokemon have natural poisons and may inflict poison status without using a poison inducing move.
    (2)Grass types gain an immunity to electric types when they grasp the ground.
    (3)Using a physical, steel-type move on the ground grants immunity to electric type moves for the duration of the attack.
    Thats it!
    "Saline! Use Metal Claw on the ground quickly!! Follow it up with Brine if you have time!" Saline responded without considering and her fins glowed and solidified into a blinding silver. She smashed her right claw into the ground just as I noticed a fork of bright and thick lightning hastening at the speed of light towards Saline from the dark clouds above.
    I clenched my eyes shut before it hit an image etched upon my eyelids. If the defense against the electric attack was successful, then Saline would carry out the Brine attack as she always did. She would hold out her fins in front of her and a glassy orb would coalesce there, growing in size gradually. When it had reached the size of a beach ball and was deep, ocean blue, she would let loose a harsh spray of salty sea water at the Munchlax, smashing into him as rough as a deep sea tsunami.
    I heard the lightning fry through the air and looked at the results of the attack.
    OOC: Edited. And no, I didn't forget, I just don't display Stockpile defense boosts separately because said boosts go away when the Stockpiles are used.
    ~~~~~

    "Saline! Use Metal Claw on the ground quickly!! Follow it up with Brine if you have time!" Jake called out.

    I was surprised - he must have seen the Munchlax preparing the attack. I sure hadn't. I looked away from the swirling vortex of water that the Munchlax was trapped in, moving my sight over to Saline. Her right flipper was glowing silver, and she thrust it towards the ground. She was just in time - she speared the grass and made contact with the earth the very second that the massive lightning bolt crashed into her. For a good three seconds she was completely engulfed in electricity. If it wasn't for Jake's quick thinking, she would have just lost a good chunk of health.

    Finally, the bolt finished descending from the heavens, revealing Saline. She looked fine, excluding a bit of steam rising up off of her and the ground around her, which had been charred into oblivion. Saline was quick to begin her attack - a ball of water started growing in front of her, and when it was the size of a small fridge it cracked open. Foamy seawater blasted out of the ball, heading towards the whirlpool that contained the Munchlax.

    Then, something unexpected happened. A bright blue ball of energy with a kind of fire plainly visible inside blasted out of the Whirlpool and shot through the Brine, crashing hard into Saline's left shoulder. She cried out in pain and dropped to a knee, the shock of the attack hurting just as much as the damage itself. She didn't see her Brine attack make contact with the Whirlpool, making it grow larger and stinging the Munchlax's current wounds even more.

    OOC: Oh ok. I'll just stay out of your nose. In other news, 2 posts, 10k each.:boom: I'm gonna go for the super ultra combo that gets you characters, but does minimal damage. I'm starting off by describing moves that already happened btw.

    The lightning arced furiously across Saline's skin. It danced and sizzled, trying desperately to pass through the unseen protection forged from the Metal Claw, but however hard it tried, nothing happened to Saline. The ground around Saline was completely destroyed. The unfortunate, small plants and weeds that had been anchored in the soil before, now were unrecognizable on the fried dirt in which they had resided. As the Thunder attack faded and dispersed, I watched as the ground released an enormous amount of steam. A spark of an idea flew into my mind as I watched Saline carry out the Brine attack as I had thought.

    She unsheathed the tips of her fins from the earth, and brought them out in front of her, a look of seriousness on her face. Cackles of ethereal energy bounced back and forth from the insides of them with increasing intensity before integrating into a small ball of bright blue energy. With increasing effort, she willed it to grow in power and size. I saw her clench her eyes in effort.

    Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Munchlax raise his left, and favored, hand up. It began to glow and he closed his eyes in thought. Metronome! This move was one of the wildest and most exciting moves of Pokemon. The move somehow stimulated the brain in places that do not usually fire. The active neurons let loose a message from the special attacking center in Pokemons' brains and allow them to access moves that are possibly far out of their repertoire. Even though I knew the move could hurt Saline, I felt excited anticipation creep up, wondering which move would appear. It could even be a move that only one species of Pokemon knows! I had once seen a Togepi use a rare move called Doom Desire. I had been told after the battle, which had been won by the Togepi due to that blood-chilling move, that Doom Desire is only known by a rare Pokemon called Jirachi that sleeps in a meteorite that only comes around the Earth once in every thousand years. It will use its fantastic power to grant a wish to one person every time that happens.

    I glanced nervously back at Saline, knowing that with her eyes clenched shut, she had no idea that the Munchlax preparing an attack, and hoped that she had sped up for good measure. It looked dismal as I noticed her attack gradually gaining power; her oceanic orb grew at the same rate as it usually did. I bit my lip. If Munchlax pulled out a seriously strong move before Saline could pull this off, it may mean serious damage to her, weakening of her move, or cancellation of Brine altogether. At the same time, I didn't want to pressure Saline into rushing the move and making it less powerful. I kept quiet and hoped for the best.

    Flashes burst from both of the sides of the clearing. Saline's Brine had reached its pinnacle, about the size of a large pumpkin, and spewed a vicious spray of salty water in Munchlax's direction. The spew looked like an eruption turned on its side and made of water. I had felt the fury of a Brine attack, once, with an accident during training. Saline had been practicing the move on a nearby tree and she had reached the point of no return when I noticed a small nest of Joltik hidden in some lower branches. I was forced to dive in front of the attack to grab the adorable spider Pokemon, and as a result, took the brunt of the powerful attack. From experience, I can tell you that the water from that attack is not like any other water. If you sent your average pool or tap water through a pump, it wouldn't hurt anywhere near as much. The water from Brine felt like rocks. It felt like the salt in the water had solidified midair and crashed into me with the force of a boulder. You can assure that I was in the emergency room after that, though only for a day or two. Every time I saw Saline perform that move, my back ached. Even now, as I watched the attack fly towards the whirlpool, my back shivered with soreness, despite my relief in Saline's quickness in performing the move before Munchlax got through with his. I could see the ferocious, deep blue water crashing forward at Munchlax all the way across the clearing.

    However, the Brine attack did not hit Munchlax before his attack was performed. I stared in the split second at the small white and blue Pokemon. The glow from its hand burst into a bright blue. However, this blue was not the blue of Saline's recent attack. This blue wavered and bubbled like one might imagine a soul would do if it was solid. To look into this glow was to look down into the bottom of a clear ocean, and farther still. The glow emanating from Munchlax suddenly made me feel embarrassed, as if I was looking at something that I wasn't supposed to look at. The glow spread rapidly from his hand, to the rest of his body. It bubbled peculiarly at its belly-chest area, and then released from that bubble a pulsating orb of what I had discerned to be Aura. The Metronome had let loose the move Aura Sphere of all moves. This move was a sacred technique only known by nine of the hundreds and hundreds of Pokemon. The rare Pokemon that know this move are said to have learned it from ancient times, when their specific species bonded in a special way with a human. Aura is the physical incarnation of the soul and Pokemon psyche. Pokemon with the ability to perform this move have honed the ability to manipulate Aura and focus it into an attack. I had only read about it before, but seeing it now, was so immersing.

    The orb traveled as if possessed straight through the Brine attack, though not destroying it. It smashed into Saline extremely hard, seeming to shatter into smaller orbs. Saline was extra weak to the move; Empoleon are part steel type and Aura Sphere is designated as fighting. She was knocked back hard into a tree behind her, and she slid down moving only slightly to get up. The Brine move that remained splashed hard into Munchlax. An odd reaction then occurred between the Brine and Whirlpool attack. As the Brine attack smashed with rock-slide force into the vortex, it seemed to feed it as wood would a fire. The Brine lasted for only a second or two, but in that short time, the Whirlpool grew tremendously and began to spin at faster speeds. It looked, now, like a bathysmal bolt of lightning; piercing the ground with a sharp point, yet wavering and flickering with power.

    I ran worriedly to Saline, who was looking weaker than usual. The attack that Munchlax had thrown was not only rare and fascinating in technique, but also extremely powerful. It also happened to be a fighting-type which is super effective when in comes to Saline’s secondary steel-type. However, the move was also a special attack. Munchlax’s special attack was dismal at best and Saline’s special defense was quite noteworthy. I hoped that that fact was enough to adequately counter its fantastic power and type advantage. She shifted, and got up. She closed her eyes.

    "Saline, are you ok?" I placed a hand on her forehead in worry, checking that she had not been knocked out. Thankfully, she opened her eyes, and looked down at me. A flicker of blue flared in her pupil. She nodded.

    I smiled with pride. This was where Saline’s bold nature always backed me up. She always was willing to go for more; risk more, take more, fight more, win more. It was a quality that I often counted on in her for battles, this one included. Because of this, I knew she was prepared to do whatever it took to bag this Pokemon.

    We both looked back over at Munchlax, with confidence now enriched in out veins. Whatever he was preparing, we were strong enough, and we could handle it. We were the best.

    I held out my hand, pointing at Munchlax dramatically, and said,

    "Saline, give it an all out Mist to obscure our position and dampen the atmosphere!"

    Saline opened a her beak and released a thick coat of silver air. The dazzling fluid snaked around like it was alive, brilliantly coating everything with a freezing dew. I watched as the wind air pressure from the Whirlpool sucked in the plume of Mist. It twisted as if it were alive. It circled around the Muchlax and grew in thickness as it did. It swelled and bloomed and squirmed. Saline was clearly having fun.

    Then, however, it hit me. The Mist did not feel as if it were particles of cold water in the air, but rather a soft torrent of ice cold mountain water washing over me. It soaked my face as well. I thanked the trio that I had brought a jacket with me, but the mist was permeating even my waterproof, down jacket.

    I soon lost sight of Munchlax and Chainy completely. As the Mist continued to cascade out of Saline's mouth, I was afraid that I would lose sight of her, even though she was standing a foot away from me. Everything; trees, rocks, ground; was lost in the soft, white oblivion.

    I glanced back at Bambi and, through a hole in the mist, saw him standing stiffly in between two trees. I was tempted to go back and comfort him but I knew he would think it a blow to his pride. His Docile nature was very useful when it came to his efforts in and out of battle; he would try his hardest on a move combo no matter how hard, and was perfectly willing to use any move he was commanded. However, he would let himself get KOed easily without me knowing that he was close. He never complained and never showed pain. Even here and now, when he was very clearly coated in the element that was most effective against him, he went as far as avoiding eye contact altogether to prevent me from knowing that he was uncomfortable. The Mist had clearly coated him in water, but he was determined to not show a thing in front of me. I unhooked his Poke ball from my belt and rolled it towards where he was hiding. If he wanted to, he could get into it without me ever seeing.

    After attending to him, I returned my focus to the battle. The atmosphere was now completely covered in Mist. My nose was numb from the combined cold of the rain and Mist. I remembered something that I had gotten from a backpacking store in Sinnoh. A pair of heat sensing glasses was perfect in this cold environment; everything that I was trying to look at was hotter than what was blocking my view. I removed them from my backpack and slipped them on, flipping the switch on the side as I did. Suddenly, the environment was all black. I was disoriented for a second until I noticed Saline near me. Her silhouette was colored a neon green. I turned to look at the Munchlax’s basic position. I noticed the light gray whirlpool first. Then, I focused the aperture to make things more vivid. I noticed a blob of orange being buffeted around inside the gray. I watched closely to determine the Munchlax’s next move...
