    Jake ran over to his downed Empoleon, presumably to check on its wellbeing - I knew for a fact he had a very limited supply of healing items, and to use them this early in the expedition would be a bit silly. He knelt next to the Steel-types Pokemon, but it got to its feet fairly easily, and Jake followed suit. He seemed to have a plan, but I didn't know what it was - the Munchlax was incredibly close to fainting and it had access to all kinds of nasty moves like Double Edge and Selfdestruct, moves that it liked to use when it was already going to lose.

    Jake stood confidently next to his Pokemon and pointed dramatically at the heavily wounded Munchlax.

    "Saline, give it an all out Mist to obscure our position and dampen the atmosphere!" he called, apparently trying to sound like a superhero and half pulling it off.

    Saline's beak opened wide, and a torrent of silver fog rolled out of her mouth, quickly spreading across the entire clearing. It was perhaps half a minute until the sky was covered, and another fifteen seconds until I couldn't see more than a metre in front of me. I turned on the heat vision mode on my visor, and looked over to see what the Munchlax was doing.

    I was immediately surprised. The whirlpool vortex had disappeared, and instead of one circular orange blob, there was now four, and each one was moving fairly fast towards where it had last seen Saline. They were keeping distance from each other, avoiding becoming bunched up so that no single attack could take more than two of the clones out. I watched closely, interested in how Jake would deal with this new tactic.

    It was really, really cold. The frigid air seemed to poke and prod at the smallest weaknesses in the anti-winter fortress that was my jacket, pants and various layers underneath. I needed something on my hands or they would soon become vestigial lumps placed inconveniently at the ends of my arms. I remembered some gloves that I had bought from the National Park store. The thrown together store had many surprisingly useful items. The park head apparently was very devoted in finding the most quality items for the park and ordering them direct. These gloves were designed with some sort of mineral heaters inside of them. The replaceable packets were made so that when the pressure of a hand was pushed upon them by putting on the gloves, they activated and began to warm the glove. I slipped off the glasses and slowly placed them in my pocket, assuming that Munchlax would be as disoriented as I was before I put the heat goggles on by the mist.

    The thick, silvery Mist persisted as I tried to stay oriented from the stark change in color in the cold air. The Mist had now permeated through my winter jacket and I was shivering pretty profusely. I pulled out the heavy ski gloves and placed them over my marble white hands. The condensed liquid that had covered my hands was wiped away on the stretchy ridge of the gloves. I felt slightly better and more confident as the warming packets immediately began their work on my hands. I flexed and relaxed my hands repeatedly; I had learned in an Anatomy and Physiology class from high school that performing these actions increased the amount of warm blood that was pumped to the muscles in the area. In combination with the heated gloves, my movement was already returning fairly well, if not with an annoying and uncomfortable itch. With the returning strength in my hands, I pulled out the glasses that I had temporarily stowed in a side pocket, and placed them back on my cold brow.

    With the heat sensor already activated, the environment was still primarily black. I scoured my surroundings for the gray funnel that indicated Munchlax’s location. Soon, I realized that it had faded and disappeared while I was distracted with the cold. I cursed myself silently, wishing that I had postponed the self maintenance for only a few moments longer so that I could have seen where the Munchlax went off to. A small rock of panic bubbled and sat in the bottom of my stomach as I glanced to make sure Saline was still by my side and not injured, though I doubted that Munchlax could have performed an attack that close to me without me knowing. My Empoleon, represented in my vision by a somewhat indistinct, green silhouette to my left, was still standing as alert as I was and watching for the opposing Pokemon’s next move.

    I returned my gaze to the general field and noticed something this time. A wavering, orange orb sat a little right from directly in front of me and about twenty meters. I focused the sight on the goggles and the smear of color grew into a vague outline of the Pokemon I was looking for. The rock of panic dissolved and bloomed into an excited swirl of anticipation. I gazed unfalteringly and waited for the next move.

    The blob didn’t seem to be moving. Under normal circumstances, when an enemy seems to be not moving, it’s a pretty good sign. However, a Pokemon battle is not normal circumstances. I knew from past experience, even moves from my own Pokemon in this current battle, not moving and seeming to be immobilized when you know that they’re not, is a common sign for when a Pokemon is charging a difficult to perform, and in turn most of the time difficult to counter, move. This Munchlax had access to every move known to Pokemon; I had seen it use Metronome earlier. I was certain that this move would be a new and unexpected trick.

    Finally, the blob did something. In the obscure accuracy of the heat sensing glasses, I watched as the orange blob widened slowly and then faster until it completely split and pinched off. I shook my head and jumped backwards a bit. The action I had just witnessed was more akin to a sped up video of a cell performing mitosis that a Pokemon move. What was it doing? Then, upon continued observation, I watched as the two identical blobs performed the exact same action as the solitary blob had initially.

    I gasped in a gulp of the icy air quite involuntarily. After coughing a bit to relieve the cold tension that struck my throat, I began to wrack my brains in more panic than before. This move was like cell division, as I had surmised earlier. It created exact duplicates of the original copy...

    That’s it! I resisted the urge to cheesily slap my hand against my forehead and let out a quick breath of half relieved, half exasperated air. Of course. The move was Double Team, a tactic that allows the Pokemon to create copies of itself and use them to attack or distract the opposing Pokemon. This move was extremely common and I was surprised I didn’t recognize it right away. Although, it could have had something to do with the fact that I was looking at the battle field with a completely different perspective than normal.

    The blobs were now distinct and moving. I saw them getting closer and knew that I had to act quickly or else Saline would get whatever the Munchlax had planned, only times four. I closed my eyes briefly and considered what I should do.

    The Mist was set up, similar to how the Smog had been set as a first move when I was using my Houndoom. Bambi had been able to use the Smog to devastating effect by combining it with Inferno and letting a super powered explosion rip through the clearing. Saline’s move set filed through my brain and I considered each move with intensity and swiftness that I was only able to muster in a Pokemon battle such as this. Each type, power, and accuracy flew through my mind as I simultaneously crosschecked it with the history of strategies that I had seen before with Mist.

    The list finally reached its end and I was worried. I couldn’t find any move that would be able to effectively counteract an onslaught of four Pokemon at once. Suddenly, a flash of memory came back to me. I remembered the first TM that I had ever bought. In Vielstone city with Saline just a Prinplup, I had purchased a fantastic move called Flash Cannon. The move was one of the newest moves to be transferred to Technical Machine form and it was flying off of the shelves. The attack was perfect for a Pokemon like Saline; it utilized both a same type attack bonus, as well as a basis around special attack which was her most powerful attacking stat. The Mist would factor in perfectly as well. I thanked god for going into Honors Physics and smiled while slipping off my glasses. This was going to be a show. I had a strategy in mind, finally.

    “Saline, hit the Mist with a wide Flash Cannon!” To my left, I watched as Saline began to darken and take in the light from around her. All along the lighter blue strips, the air seemed to bend inwards and move around it. It was like Saline was bubbling outward through those parts of her body. Her horns seemed to be spindling thinner and thinner out of existence. I knew that this move involved absorbing all of the available light out of the atmosphere and releasing it in one fell blow.

    I had formulated something that took actually great importance with the Mist that had been laid earlier. There were a few factors in play that I had to consider. First, the Munchlax, although an eminent threat to Saline, was nearing fainting stage and if I planned on catching it, I would have to be considerate of its endurance in terms of taking damage at this point. Also, Munchlax as on the verge of doing what was I supposed to be an attack only from four separate adversaries. This meant that I would either have to eliminate some of the clones (or possibly even the original and end the half life of the clones altogether) and resist damage, or sustain heavy damage from the four-pronged attack. Finally, I had to perfect the move in such a way so that it would be strong enough to actually knock Munchlax down to that last sliver of health that usually meant assured capture. I had come to the park to capture this Pokemon; I damn well wasn’t leaving without it.

    From these complex and delicate limitations that had been set for me, I had fallen into a bit of luck. The move Flash Cannon was a move that used the energy from light to damage the Pokemon. The move Mist released billions of particles of water into the air. From the Physics class that I had been thankful for earlier, I hypothesized that by using the water molecules that were suspended in the air from not but a turn earlier, I would be able to refract the light that would be released by Saline, effectively diffusing the move both in power and range. This would both weaken the power of the move and widen its scope so as to hit all four of the approaching combatants. Also, and it was wishful thinking but it couldn’t hurt, it may be enough energy to fry away most of the pesky mist that was brooding over the battlefield.

    I smiled despite myself as Saline reached her limit as a charge and I began to hear the plodding of eight different feet from no more than five meters away. A bright burst of light, so brilliant that I had to shield my eyes immediately, blasted forth from Saline’s beak and ventured out into the mist. Right away, as I saw when I forced myself to peek a look at the attack no matter how painful, the attack fragmented like a stream of water on a perpendicular surface into multicolored shards of light. I watched amazed at the beauty of the attack, as well as satisfaction at my accurate prediction of the resulting reaction of the two moves. The fragments of the move widened like a fountain from their original source and spread far across the field. I snapped my glasses back on so as to see past the brilliant aurora and at the oncoming assailants. I only caught a flash of four orange figures converging in the air towards my beloved Emperor Pokemon, before closing my eyes in reaction to what I could only guess what happened next...

    OOC: I just thought you should know that every single way I looked at this scenario, it screamed at me to KO the Munchlax. I didn't because it was impressive the way you managed to keep two huge posts at such a high quality.

    ~~~~~
    I could barely see what was going - the mist and the rain meant that visibility was basically zero. If it wasn't for my Aura Reader and its heat vision mode, I would have literally no idea what was going on, but thankfully I DID have my handy little machine. Best purchase and subsequent tinkering ever.
    “Saline, hit the Mist with a wide Flash Cannon!" I heard Jake call out. A couple seconds later, the area where he and Saline were standing began to glow, getting brighter and brighter. I closed my left eye - I knew the lens would automatically darken to protect my right eye, but my left one had no such protection.
    The battlefield became painfully bright, and because of the combination of the Flash Cannon light, the obscuring effect of the Mist, and the darkening of my visor, I lost track of the four blobs. I fiddled around with the knobs on the side of the machine, and when it was working again I saw that there was only one of the heat blobs left. The blob jumped into the air and crashtackled the Empoleon, knocking it over and into the ground. It was too tired to get off the penguin Pokemon, though - it rolled onto the ground beside it, quivering. Jake could probably see what it was doing better than me, but whatever it was doing, it was completely. One thing I did note was that the Empoleon didn't get up quickly either - maybe something had gone wrong, like the attack had been a critical hit or something.
    The thoughts of my visor somehow connected me to thoughts of the gun that was strapped to my side, and I sighed. All the dampness from this rain and Mist had no doubt got into the pistol, and I'd have to clean it thoroughly as soon as possible.
    OOC: I hope spaces are counted in the word count... :/
    The glittering shards of light ceased their flashing and dancing and I ventured to walk over and see what was wrong with Saline. As I approached her I noticed in my goggles that the Munchlax was lying and barely stirring next to her. I guess the Flash Cannon had been more powerful that I originally planned. Still, it was clearly conscious and that was the important part.
    However, more important was Saline’s state. I pulled off my heat goggles as I neared the distance close enough that I could see through the mist. She was clearly more than just hurt from the attack. Small, local twitches jittered in random spots on her large body. The attack had paralyzed her. I cursed myself out lout for not bringing status healers. As I tried to help her to her feet, I made a mental note to ask Chainy if he had any of the new Revival Herbs that the park had imported in from the far away region of Hoenn.
    Saline soon was able to mostly relax the twitching and stand up. The Munchlax was struggling on the ground. It looked moments away from fainting and I knew that if there was any chance to catch it, it was now. Still, I had to take care of my Pokemon before I thought of others.
    “You did fantastic, Saline.” I patted my Empoleon on the side of her fin and she gave a jittery, pained smile. I half smiled half grimaced and turned back around to where Bambi had hidden. After a bit of unguided searching, I managed to find the Poke ball that contained my Houndoom. I pressed the button and released the black hell hound on to the field. He looked pained as well and the cuts and bruises from earlier remained. I patted him softly on the top of the head and said,
    ”Could you give me some soft Ember to burn off this Mist?” He nodded persistently and turned to the center of the clearing. Small, steady flames licked up around his mouth and began to melt away at the cool droplets like a welding torch on ice.
    As he went on with that I slipped back on the heat goggles for the umpteenth time and bade my way towards the orange human shape that had been flickering in and out of my peripherals since I had put them on. Chainy seemed to be looking at an item on his hip. As I made my way over to him, he detached it from his waist and began to mess with it. Once I was close enough, I saw that it was a gun.
    “Hey. I’m going to play it safe and get a Revival Herb before my Pokemon needs it. Ok?” Chainy nodded and kneeled down, dropping his backpack from his shoulders as he did. He pulled out a small package and handed me a bundle of something. Through the heat vision it just looked like a blue mess, but I knew that it was the acid green fronds of the Revival Herb, possibly the most miraculous and rare medicinal plant in the entire of human knowledge. One of these extremely bitter bundles could fully revive a fainted Pokemon.
    I received the Herb while handing Chainy a substantial 2000 Poke bucks with my other hand. I thanked him sincerely and turned around to make my way back to my injured Pokemon. I was surprised at the bright colors that filled my vision. Bambi was clearly visible as a star, red splotch on the lenses, but around him was many patches of light orange and green. Bambi was just that way. No matter how bad a state he was in, he always tried his very hardest. I sighed and made my way over to Saline and the Munchlax, who was still on the ground barely moving. I removed the glasses and stowed them away in my pocket, knowing that by the time I was finished with business here, the Mist wopuld be well enough dispersed by Bambi’s diligent work.
    I turned to look down at it and I felt really sorry for it. I had let it struggle here with the burn and extensive injuries from the battle that it had just valiantly fought. I was relieved to pull a Park Ball out from my pocket and kneel down. I pressed the button in the center to expand the shiny sphere, and gently tapped it on the small Pokemon’s mottled midsection. The dirtied fur melted away into a striking, translucent, red light. I relinquished my hold on the ball and allowed it to suck in the rest of Munchlax’s transformed body. It completed the process and fell to the ground. Suddenly, a dramatic ray of light, peeking in through the fading Mist, struck the exact spot where the Ball sat. It rocked back and forth and back again. I bit my lower lip and watched painfully, awaiting the ever important result that was what I had spent endless effort on…
    I decided to check my gun now - if moisture got into the inner workings, it'd be the best part of a morning to get it out. Besides, I doubted Jake needed my help, and if he did he'd just call for me. I unholstered my pistol and began to minutely inspect the external mechanisms. I was so absorbed in the task that I didn't notice Jake walk out of the fog.
    “Hey. I’m going to play it safe and get a Revival Herb before my Pokemon needs it. Ok?” he asked me, handing me a wad of cash.
    "Oh, sure," I said as I resholstered the pistol. I reached into a side pocket of my pack without taking it off and pulled out one of the small plastic bags that contained the herb. They were new additions in the Park - the Boss was getting tired of the litter from the old style potions, and so he had replaced them with the Hoenn-grown Revival Herbs. They were still quite rare, though, so the Trainers were limited to two per expediition.
    Jake took the herb and began to walk back into the mist. I quickly noticed a yellow glow - Jake's Houndoom was using a small spray of fire to remove the fog from the area. Saline was laying on the ground, grimacing slightly, and next to her was the Munchlax. It was completely burnt out and was twitching slightly all over. I watched as Jake kneeled down and touched the Munchlax gently with a Park Ball. It hovered out of Jake's hand as it absorbed the Munchlax.
    Once the Wild Pokemon was within the ball, it fell to the ground, hitting the mud with a gooey plop. The sphere shivered a couple times but then lay still. A red light flashed out, confirming the capture. I walked over to the ball and picked it up, grimacing as I polished it on my coat.
    "Well, that was a hard-fought battle, but you captured the Munchlax in the end," I said to Jake.
    The ball twitched and heaved, and then lay still. A small glow pulsed from it and I felt a tight knot that had developed in my stomach unravel. I almost collapsed.
    "Ahhh..." My head sagged and my body went limp for a moment, but I caught myself on the way down and staggered in to a jump.
    "YES!" I pumped both fists into the air and began to flail wildly in happiness. I made my way over to Saline who seemed pretty relaxed and grabbed her fins.
    "Woooo! We did it!" I did the monkey with her for a bit and then bounded over to Bambi who was finished clearing the Mist. Iskipped in circles around him.
    "You guys were so good!" I looked over at Chainy. He was smiling at me. I guess this was a victory for all of us. I pulled out my Pokemon's balls and threw them at the corresponding figure. They both transofremed into that red light and fell into their places. I skipped around to the spots and picked up the two balls like easter eggs, placing them at my waist happily. I stopped at Munchlax's ball and picked it up gingerly. Smiling, I placed it safely in my backpack for after the run.
    I hopped up and swiveled to Chainy who looked like he was inspecting the gun still.
    "Where to next mister ranger, sir?"
    OOC: I'm fairly sure that you're not actually reading my posts. Be careful, it's little things like that which result in your overall quality dropping.
    ~~~~~

    "Yes!" Jake shouted, pumping a fist into the air before dancing around with Saline. I smiled - it was always good to see a Trainer catch the Pokemon they'd come looking for, and I knew Jake had really wanted that Munchlax. It'd been a good battle, and he definitely deserved the Wild Pokemon.

    I tucked the ball away into my pack while he returned both Pokemon to their Pokeballs. I noticed that most of the mist had dissipated, and there was no real damage - only some slight charring on the trees, and the turf had been pretty heavily torn up by all the fast-flowing water.

    "Where to next, Mr. Ranger?" Jake asked me.

    It seemed like he wanted me to pick where to go, so I just picked a random direction and we began to walk. It started to get a little warm, but I didn't mind - the mist clung to my clothes and kept me nice and cool.

    After a few minutes of losing sight of the clearing, I noticed a flash of red high up in the trees. I craned my head and just managed to see a Treecko sitting high up on one of the many crisscrossing branches. It was keeping low to the wood and watching us carefully - it was probably a young one that had never seen humans before.

    "There's a Treecko up there," I said as I pointed to it. "Interested in trying to capture it?"

    OOC: I had a fairly long explanation, and then my computer fizzled out on me for a small amount of time, subsequently deleting it and everything I had open. No, actually, not reading the previous post is not a MINOR error, it's something on which you should feel inclined dock me more. Really, I don't want to be warned first. Here's the gist of what was deleted, though. Basically, I've gots ADD. I read your post, and didn't respond right away. I forgot everything except the main point. I is stoopid. Feel free to talk to Bee about this while he tells you about me using Pokemon in a battle that just fainted. DX

    ~~~
    Chainy smiled and shook his head. He looked at the various paths that led away from the clearing. He nonchalantly pointed at one at random and led me away from the clearing.
    With my first Pokemon secured snugly in my ranger's bag, I felt warm and nice. Or maybe it was the sun beginning to peek back in through the retreating clouds. Either, the fresh air and slight wind was absolutely perfect in my face and hair.
    We walked for a few minutes and the greenery began to get a little thicker. The plants looked a bit less like friendly cohabintants and more like competing wild flowers. Small growths of moss and lichen were laid on in more quantitiy than earlier. The air was noticeably wetter here as well.
    Chainy pointed up at one of the trees that reached over and across the path itself. Apparantly, he had seen something that I had not.
    "There's a Treecko up there. Interested in trying to capture it?"
    I squinted up at the tree and tried to shield my eyes from the now blatant sunlight shining in. I guess I saw something up there, but I would have dismissed it as a quivering leaf in the soft wind before I called it a Pokemon.
    "Treecko, eh? Nah, I've got 8k to spare at the Pokemart one of these days. I'd rather not. Here, if it decides that it wants to battle, then give it a doll and I'll pay you after, k?"
    I had a feeling Jake was going to turn down the Treecko - almost everyone turned down Pokemon that were common on the mainland. I didn't blame them. When I went on runs, I didn't give Pokemon like Meowth or Shinx or Piplup a second look.
    We walked on underneath the branch supporting the small Grass type, moving away from it. It turned around and watched us leave carefully, not moving until after we had left it far behind.
    Two minutes later, I was treated to a surprise. We had actually managed to find the edge of the forest area. Open flowerbeds dotted the open area - we were in the botany section, apparently. I was quite glad to get out of the wooded section - that's where Trainers usually went, and I was getting tired of it.
    I walked over to the closest flowerbed and peered in. Immediately a fair-sized green Pokemon rose up into the air and squeaked a hello. I smiled at it before turning to Jake.
    "Interested in battling this Skiploom?" I asked him.
    OOC: Wull thanks, Chainy. ~~<3
    ~~~

    Chainy looked back at the small, green gecko that was camoflauged into the greenery and sunlight above. Then, he meandered a bit slowly along the path, just a slight air of warines about him. I followed in the same fashion and all seemed to go well. I didn't look back when we had passed the spot, and I didn't hear anything so I supposed the escape was successful.

    I got back into my skippy stride, happily jumping along. Soon, a light towards the end of the path appeared and as we neared i noticed that it led out to the wide open meadow and, well, gardens that took up the central portion of the Botanical Gardens. I was soon literally skipping instead of bouncing on the awkward boundary between a skip and a walk. Chainy and I came astride out onto the meadow and it was bliss.

    I spied Chainy pause for a moment and take in an enormous breath of the fresh air. He modeled a grin as we continued for a small distance. He turned suddenly to a bush and pulled open some of the branches that concealed the inner part. A small, green flower Pokemon bloomed up in a similar way that a jelly fish does. It was grinning widely and let out a small squeak of delight at being found.

    "Interested in battling this Skiploom?" Chainy said as he stood up and faced me. The Skiploom floated a bit towards him while he wasn't watching and landed on his head. I chucled as it began to lick his ear adoringly. Chainy rolled his eyes.

    "It sure is adorable," I managed in between snickers, "but I'm not sure I could. I only have the one Hyper Ball left. If it would prefer battling, let it have a Pokedoll to play with."

    The Skiploom rose a little higher into the air and decided to land gently on my head. It shuffled around a bit, getting comfortable on my wavy brown mop of hair before starting to lick my ear enthusiastically. Jake started chuckling at what I imagined was a somewhat ludicrous sight.

    "It sure is adorable but I'm not sure I could," he half-choked. "I only have the one Hyper Ball left. If it would prefer battling, let it have a Pokedoll to play with."

    "Well, how do you feel? Wanna battle?" I asked the green lump on my head. I felt it sigh, and begin to settle down further. I waited a few seconds for it to fly off, but apparently it wasn't going to. I sighed - it looked like I'd made a friend.

    "Well, I guess we better move on," I said begrudgingly, and we began to meander through the various flowerbeds. Luckily for me, the Skiploom wasn't very happy. Thank God Buzz wasn't around to take a picture of me, and Ivy would have had a good time snickering too.

    When we reached the opposite edge of the flowerbeds, I spied a Purugly napping underneath a bench. I knew Jake didn't like cats, but I had to offer it to him nonetheless. I pointed it out to him and waited for the obvious answer.

    "Well, how do you feel? Wanna battle?" The green flower Pokemon sunk lower on his head after deciding that it had saturated Chainy's ear in enough saliva. I smiled and facepalmed. I turned to the main path and decided it was best not to point out the blatant hilarity that this image induced.

    This time, I was the one that was slightly ahead of the other. Every few steps, I would catch a glimpse of green upon a mop of brown. A suppresed smile, which took the curious form of a constipated grimace, quivered on my face. We continued like this for a bit.

    We began to near the edge of the flowerbeds and bright flowers that inhabited them. The benches around which we had started were in sight. Though my run was far from over, it made me feel a bit sad. I needed to get me some of them good Pokemon.

    We passed out onto the ground/grassy area on which the picnic tables were scattered. Chainy paused and grimaced slowly.

    "What?" I said, cocking my head and eyeing him. I followed his hand as he stretched it out to point out a snoozing Purugly under one of the benches. My suspicious look fell to disgust. It was so fat and arrogant and stupid looking. It was asleep though; may be we could sneak past it.

    "Let's just try and go," I whispered in monotone to Chainy, "but toss the brute a Doll if it stays on our tail."

    "Let's just try and go, but toss the brute a Doll if it stays on our tail," Jake whispered to me. I knew by the look on his face and his inflections that he wasn't too keen on the possibility of battling the Purugly, and I didn't blame him. They often had vicious streaks, and Jake's Pokemon weren't exactly in top-quality condition.

    We carefully moved onto the path and started walking away from the sleeping cat Pokemon I wasn't sure exactly what direction we were moving, but luckily the cat Pokemon didn't wake up.

    We found ourselves walking through a path that was guided on both sides by some fairly high bushes. I recognised the area: this was leading back to the picnic area. I was about to turn us around when I heard a mesmerising echoing call. A small pink creature suddenly flew out of the bushes, and began circling around us. Its long tail swished through the air as it giggled and smiled at us.

    "Wow, it's not every day you see a Mew," I said in awe.

    We managed to sneak past the giant cat that was napping under a bench on the side of the trail. After we had transitioned out of the garden and over more into the walkway back to the picnic area, the bushes began to get fairly high on either side. It reminded me a bit of a hedge maze.

    The sun was also growing a bit old in the sky. Nostalgic colors began to subtly streak the sky and light shone at an annoying angle. We crunched along the path for a bit until a high pitched echo sounded to our left. It sounded as if a diamond was being dropped to the bottom of a clear lake and resounding across the entire body of water. It filled me with bright happiness and a primal sense of rejuvination and belonging.

    A pink figure slithered soundlessly out from the bush and began to hover above us. Mew was swimming through the air, repeating the same joyous sound of laughter. I was in utter amazement.

    I remembered the legends about this Pokemon from history class. This Pokemon was supposed to be the origin of every Pokemon and human alive. They knew every technique that Pokemon could know and were notoriously hard to find. They were also rumored to be extremely playful and tricky. Right now, it seemed as if this Mew just wanted to have fun.

    "Wow, it's not every day you see a Mew," Chainy said in a hushed voice. The Mew giggled and tapped Chainy on the shoulder with its tail. The Skiploom that had decided to rest on his head floated up and joined in the dance. I laughed in happiness; an aura of the stuff had saturated the surroundings.

    Mew and the Skiploom began to continue a way down the path, dancing and playing in the air.

    "C'mon, let's follow," I said to a smiling Chainy.

    The Skiploom seemed happy to see the Mew. It flew up off my head and began to dance around with the cat-like Pokemon. I smiled and watched the two - it must have been to the Skiploom like it would have been to me if I got to dance around with Bron, the original ideaologist behind the National Park. Or, you know, a naked supermodel.

    They began to fly down the path together, and Jake had the same idea as me. "C'mon, let's follow," he said, and I nodded agreement. We followed the two Pokemon down the path, until it turned a corner. The Mew giggled at us one last time, before gently touching the Skiploom with its tail. It then darted off into the bushes, out of sight.

    The Skiploom, however, had started to glow bright white. Its form shifted and expanded, growing three spherical protusions. When the glow faded, its green body had become blue, and three white cotton puffs surrounded it. It squeaked in happiness.

    "Well, I don't suppose you want to take a crack at it now that it's evolved?" I asked Jake.

    Chainy and I followed the scene for a bit down the path. It was really fun to skip along with the Pokemon and listen to their joyful cries. The Skiploom looked particularly overjoyed at having met this clebrity among Pokemon. It was swaying and flashing along with its petals. Its ears flapped freely in the wind and its smile stretched far across its face.

    As we paced along with them, the hedge made a sharp turn and the Skiploom was caught slightly offguard by it. It bounced straight against the abrupt wall of leaves and began to twist and turn uncontrollably in midair, all the while laughing its head off. It ricocheted back and forth across the walls of leaves like a loose balloon.

    The Mew was smiling amusedly all the while. It chuckled on its back, turning and slithering through the air elegantly. It reached its tail out and helped the Skiploom into a stop. The dazed Skiploom smiled dazedly. The Mew got a sort of mischevious look on its face and let go with its tail. It returned with a sparkilng tap with its tail. At the point of impact, a rainbow pulse began to glisten outwards from the ccenter. The Mew chuckled innocently one last time and flew off seamlessly into the neares bush.

    The glowing Skiploom looked surprised. It was soon enveloped completely in the crystalline glow. Then, it became apperant that the glow was not the only thing happening. Its flower morphed into a blob and its floppy ears on either side of its head as well. Its body shrank as these blobs took the form of spheres on the top and both sides of its head. I gasped slightly.

    The light shattered away from it dramatically to reveal that it had, in fact, evolved into a Jumpluff. I grinned and it squealed in delight, testing out its new appendages by bouncing back and forth from the various solid objects that were avaliable: me, Chainy, and the two hedge walls. The fluffy spores on its arms and head tickled.

    "Well, I don't suppose you want to take a crack at it now that it's evolved?" Chainy said amid the action. I shrugged easily.

    "All I really want to do is congratulate it and celebrate!" I turned to the small, blue Pokemon. "Congratulations on the evolution!" It smiled at me and bounced off of my shoulder into Chainy and then back at the hedge. As its right arm made contact with my shoulder, glittereing spores puffed out and scattered a bit on my clothing. It reminded me of something. I pulled out Saline's Pokeball and presented it to the Pokemon.

    "Hey, do you know Aromatherapy? My Pokemon is sick and I'd really appreciate it if you could help out."

    OOC: i c wut u did ther. Nice try buddy. So nice, that I actually considered it and rolled a dice for it, with a witness ranger who will go un-named unless I get pestered really badly. Roll said no go. Good idea, though.

    "All I really want to do is congratulate it and celebrate!" Jake replied easily. "Congratulations on the evolution!"

    The Jumpluff squeaked happily and flew around us in circles, scattering little white spores everywhere. We watched it happily for a little bit, and then a thought appeared to strike Jake. He pulled out a Poke Ball and released Saline.

    "Hey, do you know Aromatherapy? My Pokemon is sick and I'd really appreciate it if you could help out." Jake explained to the Grass-typed Pokemon.

    The Jumpluff shook its head sadly. Aromatherapy was a move that Jumpluff learned through selective breeding, not level-up, so not all of them had it. Apparently this one didn't, which was a pity, because it would have been able to heal Saline of its paralysis.

    "Ah well," I said, and the Jumpluff called a farewell as the wind suddenly picked up, taking hold of the newly evolved Pokemon and blowing it away. The leaves on the bushes rustled, and I pulled up the collar on my coat to ward off the cold air.

    We continued around the curve in the path, which finally revealed the picnic area that we'd been at not too long ago. Something was different, though - there was a tension in the air. I wasn't quite sure what was going on, but suddenly I heard a crashing sound. I ran out into the open area, and I suddenly saw a large yellow Pokemon crash through the remains of a picnic table. It bellowed angrily and snorted, pawing at the ground with its hoof and waving its horns in the air. I'd spent enough time growing up in the country to know what was going on.

    "This Tauros is challenging you to a battle," I said to Jake. "If I were you, I'd take it up on that."

    The Jumpluff had paused midair for a bit to consider my request. It eyed me sadly and and frowned. Apparently it didn't have the move.

    "Ah, well..." Chainy said. My composure fell slightly as I realized this. A wind flew in frm behind us and the Jumpluff took that as a signal that it should go. As if a metaphor for my hope in healing Saline before this run was over, it drifted away on the winds of the east. I shivered a bit and pulled my jacket a bit more closely.

    When The Jumpluff had fallen into the far distance, we began to walk again. The path curvedto the left slightly and soon, we found ouselves at the picnic tables. I shivered a bit in the wind. Something was off. I glanced over at Chainy; he sensed it too. I noticed his hand casually slip towards the Pokeball that rested on his belt.

    Suddenly, a huge crashing and rumbling sound resounded across to our right diagonal. A Tauros, that had somehow been concealed from us when we first entered, bounded ferociously towards us. Almost a ton of utter muscle and anger disintegrated a bench on its way towards us. I jumped backwards as if in a cartoon; now I realized what the caricaturized portrayal originated from.

    It looked straight at me and clawed at the ground angrily.

    "This Tauros is challenging you to a battle. If I were you, I'd take it up on that," Chainy said cautiously. I considered it for a moment and felt my insides melt at the prospect of battling it.

    "Let's not. See if it'll let us away, if not lay down a 'doll and we'll book it."

    "Let's not. See if it'll let us away, if not lay down a 'doll and we'll book it," Jake said slowly. He didn't look happy at the prospect of having to battle the enraged bull. I didn't blame him, but I still thought he was making a mistake - Tauros were well-sought-after creatures on the mainland. He could have gotten a good trade for it.

    Nevertheless, I began to lead him away from the bull. It decided that it wasn't going to stand for any interlopers, so it roared again and charged us. IT was really angry for some reason, so I decided to take a drastic step that I never usually did. I tapped one of the balls on my belt, and my Gallade, Dual, appeared in a flash of white light.

    "Teleport us out of here, Dual!" I yelled.

    He nodded, and the world slowed down. It took on a blue hue, and then swirled around like we were in a vortex. The swirl slowly stopped, and then reversed, and as my vision unwound itself I saw we were next to a pond. We were probably at the edge of the tropical gardens or something.

    I pulled out my PDA. "Ranger Carter here, is anyone onhand at the Gardens?" I asked, holding it like a phone.

    "What is it now, you little girly baby?" a voice broke through the static. Despite the horrible quality - I needed to upgrade my telecommunications software - I recognised it as Buzz.

    "There's an extremely pissed-off Tauros running amok in the picnic area," I said, "and if you could have it taken care of before I get back that'd be great. Thanks."

    I quickly pressed the off button before he could reply. I knew I'd have revenge taken on me, but he would have found some other excuse anyway, and this way I don't have to deal with close to 200 pounds of angry Pokemon.

    I was ripped out of my thoughts by a splashing sound. I looked around and saw a Togepi in the shallow part of the pond, splashing happily. Small drops of water sprayed into the air as it began to giggle happily. I pointed it out to Jake and stepped back, asking silently if he wished to try and capture it.

    Chainy looked at me, and then at the bull. It was clear that the bull did not want to let us leave. He was beginning to consider his option when the bull decided to choose for him. Its raged face let out a grunt of spittle and then a full on roar before it charged at us full throttle.

    "Teleport us out of here, Dual!" I didn't see that Chainy had made the descision to call out one of his Pokemon until he called out an order for us to book it. I guess I had just been a bit distracted with something else...

    As the Tauros closed dangerously lethal distances, I felt the world kind of melt away in to a blue, fuzzy energy. In the disorientation, I though wstfully of my own Gallade. When Blades teleports, it's the same except for it's pink. Huh. I disregarded the query for now; I guessed I'd ask Chainy if he knew anything about it later.

    The world began o reintegrate. Parrticles of soft, blue mist turned into colors of a landscape only mixed. It was as if someone managed to capture all of the colors of a pond and trees and the sunset and then randomly made a dot p[ainting with no correlation to real life with them. Slowly, but with increasing speed, the dots swirled and shifted slightly until they began to take more recognizeable forms. Finally, the world snapped back to existence with a small pop. A stream of sound that I had not noticed leaving, filtered back in through my mind and my brain worked up to its normal level. I sighed.

    I observed my surroundings. Chainy was off to the side of me already notifying somebody of the newfound danger in the Gardens. The rangers could take care of it; their Pokemon were experienced and powerful enough to respond to events like these. Still, a rampaging Tauros was a force to be reckoned with. The main gardens were behind us. Tropical plants lined the border to our backs while a fairly sizeable pond was to our front. The muddy grass was a bit difficult to step through at some parts, but I made my way over to Chainy. He finished with the conversation, rolling his eyes and pointed out something in the water next to us.

    A small egg pokemon sat in the warm shallows , splashing and playing with the water. The Togepi looked up at us and gurgled adorably. I gave it a pitiful and defeated look.

    "Am I a cute Pokemon MAGNET?!" I cried in disdain. I fell to my knees and picked up the small Pokemon. It looked at me suprisedly. "You.. are so adorable. Where are your parents?" It laughed and a little bit of spittle got on my shirt. I turned my head and looked up at Chainy's amused face.

    "We should help this little guy. Let's find his parents."
