    OOC: 21,900 - 500 = 21,400 just in case

As the Pokemon began to battle and perform their moves I realised I was having a pretty bad headache. The clouds had parted above and the heat was almost unbearable. I gulped down almost all of my refreshing water at once, still panting by the end. I realised that I couldn't stay up here any longer or I might pass out or something terrible. I couldn't do that to Scrafty or put my Ranger through the hassle of having to deal with something like that.

"Sorry, Scrafty. But we gotta go. I know Drillbur is a tough and good opponent for you, but the heat is too hard for me to deal with right now. It's not just a case of using Rain Dance at this stage. The rain would be useless this high up and be gone in a second or two. Sorry again. If Drillbur tries to follow us then I'll buy a Pokedoll from you Ivy. I think we should probably try and leave the heat as soon as possible."

After thinking about it for a second I realised that that sounded like I wanted to leave the Park. But I didn't just yet

"I don't plan on leaving the Park just yet. Maybe we can head to some sheltered areas or somewhere a little cooler?"

James had a strange look on his face, and there was sweat running on his face. He rubbed at his head, and Ivy thought the heat might be getting to him. Despite the ash falling, they were pretty high up, and the sun had been baking the mountainside all day. She was about to ask him if he was alright when he spoke up.

“Sorry, Scrafty, but we gotta go.” Drilbur was a rare and powerful Pokémon, but it wouldn't do the Trainer any good to beat himself up trying to get it. He could always come back and use his disk another time when he was feeling better or it was cooler. “I don't plan on leaving the Park just yet,” he said to her then. “Maybe we can head to some sheltered areas or somewhere a little cooler?”

She nodded. “Absolutely. I know a few spots we can go. We just have to take care of the Drilbur first.”

On that note, she started to stray off the path to the right, into the rocks. The Drilbur protested though, calling out angrily and hitting one of the rocks next to him, breaking it into pieces. He was already into the battle zone and didn't want to stop. It'd be dangerous to try and travel over the rocks if he tried to follow them. At James' instruction, she threw a doll to it, and then the small Ground-type finally cooled his battle rage.

They got over the rocks carefully, and Ivy led them over to hug the mountainside. Soon, juts of rock stuck out above them, shading the makeshift path they walked on. She hoped it was helping a little. Deckbi was pretty hot no matter where you went, but at least the sun wasn't beating on them. She thought maybe they could get to the caves. There were a few tunnels she knew that led back toward the gate if the Trainer was starting to feel weary. One of the entrances wasn't too far from here...

A burst of heat in front of her made her slide to a stop. Then something exploded, scattering a dust cloud onto their path and flinging chips of rock everywhere. There was a large boulder in the way, so it was like they were in a partial tunnel under the shelf. She edged around it carefully to take a look at what was going on, and she came face to face with a giant Fire-type Pokémon.

It had flaming patches on its shoulders, tail, and the top of its head, and the whole thing was red and yellow. It stood on two legs, and two huge cannons made up its arms. “Hi there,” she said to it, and it paused in its actions to nod at her. Magmortar were a powerful Pokémon. It was an evolution of the Magby they had ran into earlier.

This was seemed to be having target practice. She waved James over as it picked up a rock in one hand and flung it into the air only to bring up the opposite arm and blast it with a fireball. An interesting way to train.

“Want to battle this Magmortar?” she asked.

Ivy didn't seem to mind all that much but the Drillbur threw a mini tantrum when it lost out on a battle. It took the Pokedoll ungraciously and I was almost glad this guy wouldn't be joining our group. It tore the poor Clefairy to shreds mercilessly and gave a horrific laugh. As we made for the shelter of some cliff edges jutting out above I began to feel a bit better but that wasn't all, there were loud booming sounds like explosions going off nearby. We rounded a corner and we were inches away from a fearsome-looking Magmortar. Its body was emblazoned with flame patterns and tribal marks it may have gotten for being the leader, which is quite impressive.

"Hi there," Ivy said and received a nod of greeting from the training Magmortar.

I whipped out my camera and quickly took a pic or two of the rare Pokemon.

James didn't want to battle the Magmortar, but he did take out a camera and take a picture of the impressive sight. The large Fire-type only seemed mildly amused by the flash, and she was glad it didn't decide to blast them into ashes with its cannons. Instead, it decided it had enough training for the day and moved on down the mountain side. It might have a cave dwelling there or something.

They continued on along the mountain, and she noticed that the path was a little smoother than the rest of the rocky hill. Something might've been traveling on it lately, but she didn't know what it was. Could be an Onix or something. Either way, it made it easier for them to walk. That was good, since their shaded cover stopped for a moment, cloaking them in sunlight. It wasn't as bright though, as some clouds were starting to fill the sky. Maybe it would rain, she thought with a sarcastic tone.

A dark shadow swooped over them then, causing the group to stop and look up. A giant dragon landed on a ledge above them, and the sun glinted off its sleek blue body. Crystal-like spikes decorated it, and its tail swayed absently behind it. “Wow, it's Dialga. Want to take a picture of that one?” she asked.

After I took a few quick pics of the Magmortar it turned around, but not before I caught a smirk from it, as it began to walk down the other side of the mountain. For a split moment the shade above us disappeared and the glaring sun was right in our faces once more. I grimaced until we were covered by a huge shadow for a second. Then there was a thud from a ledge nearby as a Legendary Pokemon, Dialga I believe, landed down on it. Its body was covered in blue metal and large pointed spikes. It stood there before as and I couldn't believe my eyes seeing the bring of time stand there before us and looking at us. However, I knew I could never catch this Pokemon as it was against Park rules to attempt and catch a Legendary Pokemon.

“Wow, it's Dialga. Want to take a picture of that one?” Ivy asked.

But I had had the same thought and already was trying to get a good picture of the Dialga. It was hard because of the glaring light so I moved a little closer, and stooped down beside some smaller boulders, hopefully providing some cover from the glaring light and allowing a good picture of the Dialga. Although the beast wasn't looking I could sense it knew exactly how close I was soI took the pictures carefully. I didn't wan't to startle it away as it was important for us Rangers and trainers to keep their distance around these cool Pokemon, unfortunately.

James monkeyed with his camera until he lined up a good shot of the legendary Pokémon. Deckbi was always a pain for that since the light glared off of everything and shined into the lens to make sun spots. Even with the light cloud cover it was still bright. He managed to take a few shots that would probably turn out great. He was seeing so many rare Pokémon today. The picture collectors at the Main Outpost would sure be pleased.

“I think I've got a few snaps that will sell nicely. Shall we move on under these ledges?” He pointed to another shelf ahead, like the ones they had been under to get here.

She nodded and led them on, and she sighed at the cooler air. While her clothes offered her a lot of protection from the elements and the scrapes and bruises other Rangers got, they did get hot and heavy after a while. She was a little stubborn though, so she wasn't going to complain. She'd rather keep her body healthy and endure a little sweat than come back with gashes on arms or something. Taking Trainers though wasn't their only job.

They hugged the wall again, and Ivy kept a hand on it as they went. Here and there she felt blasts of hot hair shoot out from tiny cracks in the walls, and she realized they must be closer to the open space of lava down in the volcano on this side. It would still be a ways down, but it meant the caves might be a little farther away than she thought.

Soon they came across an opening in the wall, a place where rocks had been broken away and the inside of the mountain was viewable. She looked down, seeing the pools of slowly stirring lava below. For a while they worried that the volcano was becoming active again, and she had been sent to check it out. They had gone up to the lip for that then though. She was glad to see that it was still calm.

A large red form caught her attention then, barely visible from the angle of the hole in the wall. When she recognized what it was though, she waved James over to see.

A large red lizard-like Pokémon was resting on a ledge right next to the lava. It had grooves etched into its skin of glyphs from another time, with protruding spikes along its sides and tail. Rough spiky ridges topped its head and the tip of its tail. Its claws were slack as it slept.

“Look, James, its Groudon. It's always a good sign when it's resting. Means the volcano is alright. Wanna get a shot of it? Might be a little hard to see from here, but there should be enough room.”

We continued on, staying close to the cracked wall as we shimmid along. Every now and again there would be a sudden blast of hot air which would've been nice had I not been melting at the time, coming from the small holes in the wall. I tried to peer through some of the larger ones but all I could see was a bright glow, presumably from the molten lava that resided inside the volcano. If you listened carefully you could almost hear the lava swishing about merrily in there, like a sea of ridiculous firey heat. Ivy stopped as we came across one of the larger holes, about the size of a regular human head, and we both looked inside. It took a while for me to notice what she was indicating to, but then I saw the huge reptilian red Pokemon lying on the rockier parts of the lava like it was a bed. Luckily the Pokemon's eyes were closed because I'd hate to have something like that blocking our way.

“Look, James, its Groudon. It's always a good sign when it's resting. Means the volcano is alright. Wanna get a shot of it? Might be a little hard to see from here, but there should be enough room.”

I was no expert photographer or anything of the sort really, but I was still impressed that I managed to get a near full-body shot of the Ground type Legendary, just missing the end of its split spiked tail. It was kind of odd that this was a Ground type since it screamed fire, lava and just about everything to do with heat. The fact that it was lying on a bed of semi-molten lava and snoozing peacefully meant it must have a huge threshold for feeling heat. Then again, this wouldn't be all too beneficial because it'd just make him impossible to survive in anywhere remotely cold.

James got the pictures he wanted after taking several minutes to maneuver around the hole in the wall. Groudon stayed sleeping peacefully, which she was grateful of. She remembered the stories of when Groudon and Kyogre clashed and almost destroyed the world in floods and droughts. She'd rather it stay relaxed and safe in the Park. If it got violent, the volcano would probably erupt.

They continued down eventually, and the rocks started to get bigger and smoother rather than the short and sharp ones they had been walking on. Their hillside evened out to a plateau of sorts too, and Ivy could see down toward the plains from here. The grasses were growing thick on this side too, and she was glad to see some vegetation growing around here. The place was too boring without it.

The ledge no longer covered them, baring them to the sun rays. The heat wasn't as bad at the moment though, so she didn't mind as much. She looked back at the cliff side and saw that there was a path leading from the plateau into the mountain. There must be some sort of shelf inside that she hadn't been to before.

She was about to ask the Trainer if he wanted to check it out when another shadow swooped over them. It followed the path of the ledge they were on until it hovered off the point, floating above nothing.

The legendary Pokémon just sat there with his arms folded, staring at them. His orange and pink-spotted skin reflected the light pretty well, and the cloud he was sitting on swirled in the wind. A large brown tail looped back around behind his head.

Ivy bowed slightly to him, offering a smile. “Thanks for helping the grasses grow,” she said, waving to the plains that were filled with the dry vegetation. He was known to promote good soil, and Deckbi certainly needed it.

He didn't say anything, like she expected, but he did glance at James behind her and then the path that she was looking at earlier. He slowly uncurled an arm and pointed in that direction, like he wanted them to go that way. Ivy looked back at the path and then back to Landorus, and he nodded.

She turned back to James. “It looks like he wants us to go that way. Wanna check it out? And I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you snapped a picture of him either.”

After taking a few careful shots we started to walk along by the volcano and along the ridges of the mountain. The cloud cover ahead was gone within a little bit of walking but the heat was nowhere enar as bad as it was higher up the mountain earlier. Grass and little thorny bushes began to be seen sprouting up around the place if you looked carefully but it wasn't all too common so it was still qiote a dry place to be. There were some larger rocks lying around the place too but they weren't all that interesting. The widely-spaced larger ones did look slightly out of place. I think they were caused by eratic movement that must have happened here hundreds of years ago when the mountains were still young. I noticed an orange Pokemon riding on a cloud like a genie of sorts. It looked at us with large eyes and Ivy started talking to it.

“Thanks for helping the grasses grow,” she said, waving to the plains that were filled with the dry vegetation. The Landorus nodded approvingly at her but began to slowly drift away. “It looks like he wants us to go that way. Wanna check it out? And I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you snapped a picture of him either," Ivy added to her original comment as the large Ground genie made sweeping gestures with his arms as he hovered off towardsa trail leading up and right into a dark-looking mountain ahead. It was odd how I didn't even notice how dark that particular mountain was until now. It looked as though it was a much larger one that had been burnt down to ashes a long time ago or something.

"Yeah, sounds like a good idea." I quickly snapped a few shots as we followed the Pokemon into the mountainside ahead. "Hopefully it isn't too dark inside."

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

James agreed to follow the way Landorus was pointing, following her back up the plateau and into the mountain indent. As she thought, there was a ledge there that wrapped around the inside of the volcano, though it didn't go all the way around. Immediately the temperature rose. She could feel the heat coming from the bottom of the volcano rise up in sheets.

She peered down the edge of the platform, seeing the molten lava below. It swirled and popped sporadically, and as a test she shoved a small rock over the ledge with her foot. It took a long time to get down, and she whistled in awe. It'd be pretty bad to fall. The lava ate up the rock as it sizzled.

She took another look at their surroundings, seeing chips and gouges in the stone on the walls, like something had been training up here. She wouldn't be brave enough to do it. One wrong move and they'd be sailing off into the fiery lake.

There were small bits of the dry grass around though, and a few of the smoother rocks spread around. When she looked ahead on the path, there seemed to be something like a nest built up on the ground. One side was bordered by a giant rock that blocked sight from part of the path ahead. The nest was vacant. She wondered what was actually living up here in the intense heat when a creature came out from behind the rock.

A giant moth with six fire-painted wings showed up. Its insect body was part blue and black, covered with a white fur. Two vivid blue eyes watched them from a dark head edged by maroon fins. Black speckles covered its body.

She recognized it as a Volcarona, an extremely rare and powerful Fire-type Pokémon. She had one at home, though hers was a bit more peaceful than this one looked.

“What about this one?” she asked the Trainer. “They're not too fond of rocks, but these ones are pretty powerful.”

OOC: I must be mad but hell yeah I want it ^^

So, after agreeing to follow the Landorus towards the mountain plateau I began to wonder where exactly this was going to end up. It could lead up to some huge undiscovered cliff edge somewhere, or perhaps to a large craggy mountain... or maybe even the elusive hot steam "spas" that few found but many enjoyed. I had never been to one of them but it was rumoured that the rare Pokemon Torkoal would gaurd these spas and they helped to keep them clean and welcome for any weary passerbyers. Now I had yet to find these spas so I could never telll if this was a myth or anything because Torkoal where really rare around here so maybe they all shared this steamy area and resided there, helping people. New places in Mount Deckbi and Mount Oktori were constantly being found. Things were hidden caves to places discovered when the ground suddenly collapses and you could accidentally discover upon a very cool place.

One particular example that springs to mind immediately is the time, about eight months ago, on a fine summer's day... I was sitting in the primary Ranger Outpost near enough to the docks where trainers would come in the hordes during the summer months atop ferries and what not. They'd accompany Rangers on usually 3 day treks and camp along the mountains or vast plains as they travelled all around the various places in the Park. That was a very tiring and expensive journey so most people liked to come out for a nice sunny day and go on some picnics in the Teddiursa Picnics at the Botanic Gardens (a collection of the wild Pokemon come out to play with the younger children but you can't actually feed these Pokemon, despite the misleading name. The Pokemon here are bred and know in their very own instincts how to find food and the sugary snacks and treats they sometimes get fed make them sick). But, eh, yeah. I distinctly remember sitting there, playing frisbee with my highly-trained Stunfisk when a Ranger burst into the outpost suddenly causing many people to jump in shock.

He told of how he and his two trainers had been going through the momentarily sunny Mount Oktori when they came across a cave they had never discovered before. They were walking along, enjoying the scenery and looking for some interesting wild Pokemon. However, according to them, they saw almost no Pokemon whatsoever. When they came to a seemingly "dead end" the Ranger happened to notice that the wall was hollow. He could hear echoes coming from the other side. He commanded his prized Starmie to try use its telekinetic powers to see what was on the other side. To his utter surprise, it turned out that there was a huge room with many corridors leading off to other possible larger rooms like that one. Now, he was compelled by curiosity so I can't blame him too much for knocking down the wall against general Park orders. The words that the Head Rangers droned on and on every single day when we were training to be Rangers kept coming into my head.

    Please Protect Park Property

One of the most important rules he had gone against and also did it in front of two trainers (a couple I believe, if it even matters) proving to set a bad example. But it all became worth it in the end. He discovered a huge cavern that stretched right up until the tip of the mountain. As amazing of a discovery that that was, it got so much better. The walls were described as "glittering" when the torchlight were shone over it. Later they were discovered to be diamonds! Yeah, not the shiniest or best of diamonds, but they still made a great story and even made a lot of the nearby newspapers. Being Park property, they went towards getting us some nicer wages. I smirked at the thought.

Ugh, I hadnt realised I had let my thoughts get away with me so much until Ivy was looking back at me curiously and the Landorus had ventured to quite some distance away. I quickly hiurried after them as we enterred the mountain together. Immediately, my jaw literally dropped, as the heat became intensely hot really quick and when I saw the inside. We were standing on a ledge about fifteen feet wide that spiralled upwards around the inside of the mountain. Except, it wasn't even a mountsain in the least bit. It was a huge ass volcano. Myself and Ivy glanced over the edge nervously to the perilous drop into the bubbling and oozing bright red lava. We both stood there for a few seconds, looking in awe at the constant swirling and oozing of the bubbly waves that constantly seemed to swirl and move over each other before disappearing and reappearing moments later as huge waves which sloshed and splashed against the sides. I couldn't help but wonder how sturdy the inside of this cone must be, considering how it has probably survived hundreds of years of molten lava bashing against it. Then again, I knew from geography that it was made from cooled lava over a very long time so it must really be tough.

I saw a sudden movement as Ivy kicked a smaller stone over the edge. I watched the stone that would feat neatly into your palm when you clenched your fist drop and shrink more and more the faller it fell. I counted six seconds before it became engulfed into the boiling hot lava. I knew it must be dissolved into absolute nothingness or miniscule particles in a second or two, if it wasn't all ready. I gulped at this and even shuddered a little as I realised how close to the edge we were and what would happen if one of us, or our Pokemon fell into it. We slowly backed away from the lava and as we continued up the inside of the volcano, it was to no surprise how close to the wall we were both choosing to stay. It may or may not have been the best idea to stay in here considering the constant fear of the floor beneath us collapsing suddenly and we both fall to our death.

There was a problem within a few minutes though. A large rock up ahead seemed to block the majority of the path. I was wondering what we should do, should we turn back, should we try manouver around it? It ended about five feet towards the end of the path. That was too close to the lava drop for my liking. Perhaps we could try climb over it. I advanced a little to see if I could perhaps get a grip on the rock with my foot but stopped suddenly. There was a lot of ash clumped together along with large branches and pointed stones. Was this some kind of trap or something?

"Oh," I said aloud when I saw a white glimmer on the inside of it. "That's a big nest for a big Pokemon. I wonder what the hell could make a nest like that and actually be comfortable watching the young over it. Suddenly my spine tingled and I got a sickening feeling that we were being watched. There was a sickening gurgle and myself and Ivy jumped backwards. A huge firefly thing with six broad leaf-like wings rose up from behind the rock and hovered into the air. It had several cold black eyes that stared at us angrily. I suddenly realised that this was the mother of the nest and might have thought that we were trying to disturb her nest. It hissed warningly at us.

"No, no, no," I said. "We mean you no harm . We were just exploring..." I said, hopefully sounding more brave then I felt against this thing. It was like some creature from a horror movie, big, loud and threatening as hell. But, it looked pissed as hell and I knew it was going to attack us and maybe shove us off the edge. I couldn't let this happen so I knew I had to use something to perhaps give us a break to allow us to flee later on. Although, I didn't say anything at all but I did secretly want to capture this Pokemon really badly. Altough, I couldn't shake the feeling that this Pokemon had a yound baby perhaps to look after it..? I managed to turn my attention to the nest once more and saw that the white glimmer from before was a cracked egg. The baby Pokemon had clearly escaped by now and could come back soon to help its Mama...

"Togekiss, come on out," I said. After the flash of white that brought about the formation of my Flying type. "Togekiss, this will probably one of the toughest challenges you have ever faced. I need you to try your hardest with this Pokemon, got that?" I asked him.

Togekiss nodded as he rose up. One of the main reasons I had chose Togekiss, and not another Pokemom was... because of the steep drop. Togekiss were amazing flyers and I knew there was just about no chance anything could happen to him. Well, I sure hoped that was the case. I did feel quite guilty sending out my good friend to fight despite the ever-present dangers all around him. Besides this Pokemon looked like a crazy lunatic, but I'll be damned if I'm letting this get away from us. Thankfully, being a Bug/Fire type Pokemon it had several weaknesses, andone rather large one in particular: Rock type attacks. I could go straight for the Ancient Power, but I had a better choice that would hopefully help to wear this guy down and also to help enlargen the battlefield.

"Ivy, I think it's best if we take a few steps back. Preferably more thasn a few because I have a feeling this battle's gonna be tough as hell and we should definitely keep out of the way. Togekiss, I want you to smash that rock behind Volcarona with your psychic abilities."

Togekiss closed his eyes in concentration and began to focus all his negative energy and power towards the inside of the large rock. I wasn't sure if we could break it exactly but definitely it would splinter creating a larger passageway for them to battle and the large chunks of rock coming from the rock would surely hurt the Volcarona. Volcarona were known for being able to boost their speed stat to ridiculous levels so I knew Thunder Wave was an absolute necessity.

"Hopefully, the rock bursting will distract her so please try and paralyse her with Tri Attack. It's really important we keep her speed as low as possible."

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

James looked pretty freaked out by the Volcarona's appearance. He tried to placate her with words, holding his hands up in a soothing gesture while backing up, trying to let her know that they didn't mean her any harm.

Ivy really hoped she didn't have young ones around. They could get pretty protective of people and places. She knew that from her own at home. She had a hard time bringing her to the office because she tended to make gestures and cause sparks whenever a secretary came into her office suddenly. The ledge was pretty close to them, and if this Volcarona got aggressive too, they could go sailing off.

The group backed up to give her some space, and James called out his Togekiss again. He was a little tired from his last battle still, but the Flying-type was probably a good idea. At least if he got knocked off the ledge, he could just fly right back up. “Togekiss, this will probably be one of the toughest challenges you have ever faced. I need you to try your hardest with this Pokémon, got that?” he asked, and the Togekiss nodded. She didn't doubt that he wouldn't please his Trainer.

James suggested they move back even farther, and she agreed. She took the side by the ledge just in case though, and Haji planted himself in front of her. It was kind of like parents walking on the road side when holding hands with their kids. If something bad happened, they'd get hit first. This was the same principle she used. If someone was going to fall off the cliff, it wasn't going to be her Trainer.

The edge made her a little uneasy, but if she backed up more toward the exit to the inner volcano, she wouldn't be close enough to act if something went wrong. It was her job to protect the Pokémon and her Trainer, and that included ones the Trainer wasn't battling. She peered over the ledge into the pit below, seeing the large sleeping form of Groudon. She hoped they didn't wake it.

She reached into her vest pocket for Haxbat's Pokéball, wanting to be ready for anything. She clipped it to her belt instead of its usual place in her vest so she could grab it suddenly if needed. It was a long way down into the volcano.

“Togekiss, I want you to smash that rock behind Volcarona with your psychic abilities,” the Trainer said. It was blocking a lot of the shelf, so if he could break it, they'd have a little bit more room to maneuver. “Hopefully, the rock bursting will distract her, so please try and paralyze her with Tri Attack. It's really important we keep her speed as low as possible.”

The bird immediately concentrated, and due to her link with Haji, she felt the air flux as he expended mental energy. The force was focused in the boulder behind Volcarona, and after a few seconds, the stone shattered into pieces from some sort of ancient power inside the stone. Some of them flew out and hit the moth, making her flinch and float lower to the ground. Togekiss took that opportunity to fire off his Tri Attack.

Three orbs, one for each of the elements of fire, ice, and lightning, formed in front of him. They began to twist, and soon all three were rapidly spinning in some sort or ring that launched at Volcarona. She was hit hard again, and Ivy kept her eyes peeled, but she didn't see any of the crippling bolts of electricity curling around Volcarona's limbs.

The moth was a bit unhappy at being struck, and she began to beat her wings faster. Ivy held her ground as the winds picked up, lifting rocks and causing a powerful vortex. The rocks flew toward Togekiss and hit him straight on, and then he was jerked around by the raging winds. The volcano was open air on top, but due to the one cave wall, the wind tried to propel him away from it, into the open space in the volcano. Hopefully he'd be able to catch himself. She couldn't tell how much damage the rocks did, but he had been hurt before the battle started.

Now that the large rock was gone, Volcarona glided backward while still facing them, traveling along the edge of the volcano.

After just a few seconds of staring at the large boulder sitting behind Volcarona I saw it slowly begin to quiver. As I stared I almost jumped backwaeds as it suddenly burst open. Some of the rocks shot into the Volcarona, causing the large fire moth to droop a little from where it was floating. Its bottom-most two wings were just swishing a few inches from the cracked ground below. Luckily for us, the ground had some small and hardly noticeable cracks, and not ones that had even a small chance of causing this cool path inside the volcano collapsing and sending us spiralling down to our deaths below in the lava. Volcarona seemed a little lost for what to do for a second and I figured that she may have flinched as a result of the surprise rocks attacks. It must have been like a weaker Rock Slide because that had a chance to flinch the opponent as well. However, despite the four times weakness to Rock type moves Volcarona was back up and fluttering around in no time. I thought we had missed the chance to attack but as I turned to see Togekiss, I was reminded of just how prepared and used to battling he has grown accustomed to after so many.

Togekiss was flapping his wings furiously until he extended open his mouth. A ball of red flames, a blue ball of bright electricity and a transparent lump of solid ice began to form outside his mouth. The three sphere started to slowly enccirlce each other in perfect symmetry as the tri-beams began to spin faster and grow larger and larger. The Tri Attack shot forward suddenly. The beam didn't even take a second to smack into the Volcarona's sturdy stomach. He cringed a little but still didn't look all that hurt, unfortunately for me. The Volcarona seemed to take this not too well and her broad leafy wings began to pick up speed as Volcarona rose her body into the air. The way her huge leaf-like wings moved around in perfect unison was almost mesmirizing. The swirlirng and spiralling flame patterns that were slightly different on each and every leaf didn't help to break the sudden distraction I, and Togekiss, seemed to have gotten from the attack.

Before I realised that the Volcarona had stopped this really odd motion I saw that a small gust was starting to pick up. I could see Ivy's Espeon digging her forepaws into the ground to try and keep her balance. Ivy's hair was being whipped all around the place and I was glad my hair wasn't too long right then. Small stones and bits of rubble began to fly towards us, but most of the larger ones were smashing into Togekiss. Togekiss was fighting the barraging winds like a true champ and he did seem quite battered when the winds began to falter down. He slowly dropped to the ground and took a few deep breaths before turning back to face the Volcarona.

"Okay, Togekiss, you're starting to get weakened by Volcarona's tough attacks and the battle you did earlier. I think I have an idea that could work. Remember a few weeks ago that waterfusion strategy we tried out?" I asked Togekiss, probably sounding kind of desperate because we needed something like this to work out. If this strategy works out correctly you should have anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute to use Roost to heal yourself," I finished off saying. Togekiss began to prepare the attack which I knew would take about five seconds or so, which was to be expected. While Togekiss prepared his body the Volcarona seemed to be watching intently. I kept one eye on my Togekiss and another on the Volcarona just in case.

Waterfusion was an interesting strategy that I stumbled across a while ago when I was trying to make my Togekiss all the more versatile thanks to its extremely vast movepool. Basically, it started with Togekiss summoning up water from throughout his body and neutralising any excess hydrochloric acid that he had. The water content would slowly start to build up as though he was about to use Water Pulse. Togekiss would slowly spit this water out as he prepared his Thunder Wave attack in a split second (quite literally), firing off the quick jolts of electricity into the shooting torrents of water. The water would help conduct the electricity. Togekiss would then use his powerful wings to control the flow of the water with the electrical current, gradually creating a sort of mini whirlpool with it. This had been very tricky to do at first but Togekiss was getting better and better at it when we stopped. I could only hope now that this would hurt the Volcarona, paralyze it and then hopefully allow Togekiss to heal up while the swirling whirlpool shot forward and created a distraction.

    You can do it, Kiss."

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Ivy regained her feet as the wind stopped, glad to see Haji was alright. The Espeon's fur was a little ruffled, but at least he was still on the shelf with her. “Still okay?” she asked.

He nodded and spoke softly on her mind, nodding toward the Volcarona. “She is setting something up.”

Sure enough, she felt the shifting of energy. She looked up at a glint in the sky, finding an open space in the air. Five almost-transparent screens flickered to life above the pit. The sun reflected off of them in a rainbow shine, and the Ranger recognized the technique. It was a Light Screen, designed to ward off attacks and redirect their damage elsewhere. She had seen a Trainer battle a Whimsicott using it.

James didn't seem too notice since he was busy telling Togekiss their next plan. He wanted him to do some sort of Water Pulse/Thunder Wave combination meant to be somewhat of a distraction so the flyer could Roost and heal himself.

It was too bad Volcarona didn't stay motionless during their planning. While Togekiss was gathering water to himself, a thin circle of bluish energy drew itself in front of the Volcarona, making a faint mist around the wild Pokémon. Then she started to charge up another attack. Embers sparked around her feet, like the air in front of her was hot enough to burn.

Then Togekiss unleashed his attack, shooting the Water Pulse's rings toward the Volcarona. They didn't travel straight though, instead swirling and spinning to lay flat. The other rings followed the first one, and they all started spinning upward, making a whirlpool of sorts. The water flecked outward as the flyer shot a Thunder Wave into the mix, and then it went spinning off toward the target.

Volcarona wasn't going to wait though, and Ivy watched as she charged toward the Togekiss as he settled down to Roost. She went right through the whirlpool, and the Ranger saw one of those screens materialize in front of her as she burst through it. The water still hurt her a little, but the screen allowed her to keep moving. Tiny sparks from the paralyzing wave didn't seem to affect her either, catching on the foggy mist that surrounded her and sliding off like nothing.

Then the Fire-type charged at the grounded Togekiss with a powerful burst of fire. She seemed more energized by the hit, and after she launched herself into the open air to fly around, waiting for her opponent to strike back.

From the impact, Togekiss went sailing off into the pit.

    OOC: Slow posts are slow

As I left my Togekiss with the series of completely random and most likely ineffective combo, I noticed that the giant ugly behomoth of a butterfly wasn't exactly letting us get away with some "free" moves per say. It was shuffling up and down looking upwards and flapped those monstrous wings, while keeping an eye up into the harsh sunlight above and also on my Togekiss with a flickering eyelid. I noticed that Volcarona seemed to shimmer a little and that a lot of the light from above seemed to be pouring out around him, or, no. Volcarona was harnessing the sheer intensity of the light above to create a makeshift barrier of light that would dazzle, startle, confuse and possibly even distract my Togekiss. I sighed at the obvious cheap hax, just like someone having their Pokemon spam Double Team, Sand Attack or Minimize. I really haed moves that just stopped you from hitting the opponent as you continue to get all hot and bothered and their Pokemon get to stat up.

As my eyes grew accustomed to the dazzling lights surrounding the taunting Volcarona, I noticed a faint, bluish sort of aura was starting to become prominent around the Volcarona. At first I thought that it may have just been a trick of the light but then I realised after a few seconds that it was an attack seldom used, but was quite helpful for cleric/team-supporting Pokemon. I glanced at Togekiss to check whether he had noticed the Safegaurd but he hadn't kept his focus like I had asked him to so many times before. As important as it was to perform great attacks and combination moves, it was just as - if not even more - important to keep at least "an eye and a half on the opponent". A stupid expression that my father had always taught me to use to my advantage. Despite its obvious stupidity, there was a hint of genious behind it.

Togekiss had then fired off the attack but it wasn't all too effective thanks to the Volcarona's trickery. Volcarona seemed to notice that Togekiss' attacks had died down a little and all I saw was a blurry charge of orange, yellow and red flames dancing around the shooting Volcarona. I recognised this move as Flame Charge and knew it would be bad now that the Volcarona was going to be faster, but I wasn't too worried until I saw how much the attack did to Togekiss. He was sent flying over the edge of the mountain and straight down into the lava below. My heart sank and I ran forwards. I couldn't see anything and I had thought that perhaps Togekiss had plunged into the bright insta-death pool below for a little while but then I collapsed to my knees in relief when I saw his clumped form on a ledge a little below. His eyes were closed and he wasn't moving at all.

"Togekiss! Kiss! Can you hear me? Buddy?" I called out but I didn't get a return call back. I gulped a little and looked down at the sharp drops and tiny ledges. No way on earth would I be able to make it down there. I couldn't throw a rock down to try and awaken Togekiss either; the rock could be just enought to send him tumbling into the pool of molten lava below. I pulled out Togekiss' Pokeball and tried to summon him back, but it was all in vain. The Pokeball gave a weak glow of red light that only hit the ledges about ten feet down. Togekiss was resting almost fifteen feet below us. I had brought two other Pokemon with me, and I'd hate to put their lives in risk but I had a feeling my Scrafty would be able to do it. I would never leave a Pokemon behind and neither would my team. We would try our very best to retrieve any member, no matter how foolish and dangerous the rescue mission sounded. I took a deep breath as I steadied myself for sending out my next Pokemon. Slowly, I withdrew a regular-sized and fashioned Pokeball.

"Scrafty, come on out. The little gansta Pokemon was out after that all-too familiar spell of white light and he looked around. He focused on the Volcarona watching us intently and his eyes squared. I put a hand on his shoulders immediately. "That's not the problem," I said sternly. Scrafty looked at me with a bewildered expression as he wondered why the heck I would need him other than to battle some strong opponents. I turned him around slowly and pointed down the gaping mouth of the volcano. "Togekiss has fallen. I don't want to pressure you or force you to do anything you don't need to do, but you're the only Pokemon I have with me that can help him and make it back up. You grew up and spent the majority of your lives in the steep and very dangerous mountains of Oktori. There isn't anyone better for the job."

Scrafty nodded swiftly and began to assess the situation. After a moment he turned his back on me and dropped to his knees at the volcano's mouth. He dropped to his arms and then disappeared down. He had landed on one of the larger, sturdier-looking ledges just a little below us. He was beginning to make his way across through the art of sideshuffling and pressing his small body against the hot wall. As he came to the edge he gave a little hop onto one of the rocks poking out from the wall. I was sweating profusely as I watched my poor baby climb down the volcano to save his brother. He looked down and then gave a giant leap. I felt my jaw widen a little as he landed a larger jump perfectly and began to shimmy down the slanted jut of rocks now. He then reached the edge and looked at Togekiss just a little below him. He called out to him but it wasn't to any effect and he began to back up.

    "No!" I said sternly.

Scrafty gave me a devillish grin and made a running leap, before I could do anything about him. He sailed through the air before his right foot connected with the base of the spiralling pathway that led up to the mountain. Before there was time to cheer he gasped, I gasped, Ivy gasped and hell even Espeon made a squeaking gasp I could've sworn. The ledge's cracks gave away and Scrafty dropped down to the next ledge, landing flat on his stomach. Togekiss was just an arm's reach away but I began to feel guilty. How could I as a trainer allow my Pokemon to do such things. It was my duty to look after them, to nurture and protect them and I had risked them both in this stupid battle. Scrafty clawed at the Togekiss' feathers and his head jerked up suddenly. He looked around in bewilderment before giving a little surprised cawwing sound.

"Togekiss, Scrafty's just risked his life to save you. All I need for you to do now is to carry him back up here. Can you do that?"

He nodded and smiled at Scrafty serenely. Scrafty hopped onto his broad-winged back and Togekiss was up resting dowen beside us after just a few quick strikes of his powerful wings. I called Togekiss back to his Pokeball seeing just how nerve-wrecking this whole experience had been, but Scrafty was bouncing from foot to foot eagerly awaiting to abttle. I guess that little climb had stimulated his senses and his thirst to do something wild and exciting. I suddenly remember how we had completely forgotten about Volcarona and almost feel off the cliff edge myself when I realised just how close she was to us. She gave Scrafty an odd look... I could of sworn it was a look of approval but I couldn't be certain.

"Scrafty, this is a tough opponent so let's try and give him a taste of your own strengths. Start with a Crunch attack, please."

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

The Trainer paled as his trusted flyer sent soaring off the cliff. Everyone shuffled to the edge to look, and to her relief, she saw Togekiss landed on a ledge far below. James tried to recall the bird to his Pokéball, but the range of the beam was just too short. He spent a few moments thinking with a frustrated look on his face.

Ivy looked at the Volcarona, but it wasn't making any moves to attack. Maybe she thought that the battle was ending because her opponent was gone. Either way, Ivy was glad that James didn't have to juggle helping his Pokémon and warding off the wild one. She mentally willed her to stay where she was.

Before the Ranger could offer to help, James released his Scrafty from his Pokéball, telling him that he was the only one that could save their friend. In some amazing skills, Scrafty managed to scale the wall and leap down the ledges until he got to the bird. He woke his partner up with a nudge, and then they safely came back up. Ivy would've stepped in if necessary, but she was glad to see that they'd go such lengths for each other.

Togekiss was returned to his ball, and then the Volcarona sized up her new opponent. Her wings buzzed, and the moth started moving again, hovering over the ground thanks to her new burst of energy. She was looking intensely at Scrafty, as if recognizing him as a worthy opponent. Maybe she had been impressed with his skillful rock scaling too. Scrafty gave her a look as well, and for a second she looked a little intimidated at the task ahead.

“Scrafty, this is a tough opponent, so let's try and give her a taste of your own strengths. Start with a Crunch attack, please,” James said.

His Pokémon nodded and charged, snapping his jaws once. Scrafty wasn't too fast, but to make up for that, he was dodging to the left and right in a skewed pattern to try and throw the Volcarona off. It seemed to be working somewhat, as she was backing up slowly and moving her head to the left and right to try and track his movements.

When he was close enough, he leapt into the air and opened his maw wide, sinking into the soft body of the moth. He got a mouthful of that white fur too, so Ivy saw his grip wasn't that great. Then, Volcarona charged, using Scrafty as a pivot point to launch herself with a u-turn into the air after striking.

She fluttered off the edge, and with a few sweeps of her powerful wings, she floated upward, just under her screens. Then she began to move strangely, rocking back and forth and spinning. Ivy paled and called out to her Trainer.

“She's starting a dance. You better stop her before she sets up.” The Ranger couldn't tell which dance it was, since the moth was capable of learning a few, but either way it wasn't going to be good if she stayed out of reach and increased her power. She'd be able to pick Scrafty off easily.

OOC: this post is extremely boring so feel free to skip the first 2k or so because it's nothing more than filler

As soon as I had called the Crunch attack Scrafty charged forward, straight at the Volcarona. Unfortunately for us, Scrafty aren't the fastest of Pokemon. Infact, they were actually extremely slow which was rather unfortunate. They were even slower than Swampert and Tyranitar - two very heavy Pokemon who rarely needed to use their Speed stat thanks to their ability to increase their speed (Tyranitar is a great example of this with both Dragon Dance which slightly increased its speed and attack, but was harder to pull off as it required the upmost of concentration, and Rock Polish, which involved a lot of preparation to be used which the opponent could easily take advantage of and set up their own speed or any various other stat really. Swampert was great at using its very solid both physical and special bulk to wall attacks until it made the opponent slower through several nifty moves to have around, such as Icy Wind, Bulldoze and Rock Tomb). Luckily for Scrafty, it had two similar moves to use to its advantage. It could learn Rock Tomb and Bulldoze to cripple the opponent's speed stat or it could Dragon Dance of its own.

Even after a Dragon Dance Scrafty could reach a great initial speed (very similar to that of Zebstrika, albeit a little bit slower), but it is still outsped by many notable threats like Alakazam, Starmie, Jolteon and Weavile. Now, Scrafty has great natural bulk itself and its own two Types - Dark type and the Fighting type, do actually land quite a few strong moves against these threats. Crunch KOs Starmie and Alakazam after one Dragon Dance, but can outspeed and KO them after two Dragon Dances. Weavile has a very vulnerable spot to Fighting type moves, thanks to Ice typing and the Dark typing being weak to Fighting and Weavile having very low Defense and HP stats so even without so much as one boost, Weavile is easily OHKO'd by Drain Punch and many other moves that Scrafty has in its arsenal. Jolteon can still be most tricky and it always comes down to the opponent's playstyle and cunning before you can safely decide on what moves to use. If you try and set up on them too much expect a Yawn or T-wave or even worse, a Roar to the face.

As I focused back on Scrafty I saw he was just before the Volcarona and he leapt up into the air and his open mouth clamped down hard on the Volcarona, biting onto the white fur and holding on for as much as he could, trying to do "the crocodile grip" thingy I had tried to teach him about before. Volcarona charged forward before making a complet u-turn and turning back. The sudden movement of the flaming moth had seemed to shake Scrafty, knocking him to the craggy ground as Volcarona performed a few powerful strokes of her wings to create some distance between herself and the Scrafty. I wasn't sure whether it was the heat or how Volcarona continued to outwit us, but I was starting to get really bored of this opponent and I knew that we'd need to think of new strategies if we wanted to best the ugly, but extremely rare and elegant, whether it meant to be that way or not, moth. I saw the Volcarona begin to swing back and forth in the air, almost throwing its body around before us. I gulped as I realised that Volcarona was doing the thing I had being praying for her to forget about for almost the whole batttle. Well, that's sure what it seemed like.

“She's starting a dance. You better stop her before she sets up," Ivy called out. Her warning definitely didn't help my shot nerves but it definitely confirmed my suspicions. I knew we had limited time but we had to make the best of this time, that much was extremely obvious to me.

"Scrafty, Roar!" I commanded. Now, this might seem like a very unusual thing for me to do - have Scrafty give out a loud call of battle seemed initially like it might just be wasting valid time but I had high hopes for this move. I knew from a previous battle against an Azumarill just how effective Roar could be. Scrafty were notorious for their deep lungs and their ability to make loud, booming and intimidating roars. My thought process was to have Scrafty give out the deepest and a very powerful Roar to possibly startle and stop the Volcarona in its tracks. Scrafty closed his eyes as he slowly began to intake a lungful of air. His strong tail stopped swishing behind him and his feet remained planted firmly on the ground. He tilted his head back to hopefully extend his lung capacity and his eyes shot open to glare at the moving Volcarona. He first gave out a beginning rapt bark to hopefully grab the Volcarona's attention. The moth seemed to be paying attention but she was still fluttering about the place and this Quiver Dance was likely to bode down well unless Scrafty got the Roar through.

A round, circular baby blue body ingraved with white patterns amnd with two perky ears and two beasy chestnut eyes stared down at us. It bounced a little forward, over the cool blades of grass below her. Her big bulbuos tail bounced along behind her as she moved forwards. Now, Azumarill were by no means whatsoever a threat usually, but there was something different about this one. I could tell just from the way its hands rested on its hips or the confident smirk that seemed so cheesy that this Azumarill was brimming with confidence which lead me to believe that it was one of the very few that possesed Huge Power. It was the identical clone of Pure Power, but it was exclusive to some very exclsuive and lucky members of the Azurill, Marill and Azumarill line.

"Belly Drum," her master sneered. Azumarill's eyes turned into a squint and I knew this battle was so close to being over. However, I still had that one trick up my sleeve.

Scrafty closed his eyes as he slowly began to intake a lungful of air. His strong tail stopped swishing behind him and his feet remained planted firmly on the ground. He tilted his head back to hopefully extend his lung capacity and his eyes shot open to glare at the Azumarill, who was performing an odd sort of dance which involved it halving its own health but gaining six times as much attack in the process. It was a very scary thought to even have, let alone face an opponent with this at the ready and preparing to rape the crap out of my team with Aqua Jet.

Then, Scrafty proved to me his worth and let out the most tremendous roar I had ever heard. The ground below seemed to shake and the Azumarill was so ataken back that she tripped over and... burst into tears as bits of spittle and Scrafty's horrible breath smacked her face on and ruined her attack and her initial undeserved confidence brought about by her very rare ability. Scrafty one, Azumarill nothing.

I just had to hope the same worked for us here against the presumably-smarter and tougher Volcarona

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

James seemed to know what was going on before she gave her warning, and when she did, some sort of grim acceptance came to his face, like he had known she was going to do that and didn't like it. Sometimes that happened in battle, she knew, when there were just some things you couldn't stop. Hopefully the Trainer would be able to work around it though. Most things you could think yourself out of.

He looked lost in thought for a long time, thinking hard on what they could do. Maybe he had gotten mesmerized by Volcarona's flapping wings as she danced through the air. Ivy knew that when she had found her Larvesta here, she wasn't able to get her piercing blue eyes out of her head.

Finally James got his act together. “Scrafty, Roar!” he called.

Scrafty took a big lungful of air, and then he let out a loud bellow that almost seemed to shake some of the small rocks on the platform. Sometimes this technique could be used to scare off a wild Pokémon, but that wasn't how they were intending it. Coupled along with his ability, Scrafty might be able to jolt Volcarona into stopping.

Sure enough, the sound traveled over the airwaves and reached the fire moths. Ivy saw her clench her eyes shut and shake a bit, being thrown off the careful patterns of her dance. When she opened those blue orbs again, they were angry. Abandoning the dance, the Volcarona began to shake to the left and right rapidly, in short bursts. A powder fell from her white hair, and with a twirl of her body, a breeze kicked up.

It wasn't like the Hurricane really. Instead of the whipping winds, it was a softer, stranger air vibrant with energy. It collected the powder she made, and then it grabbed the ash from around the volcano too, making a snow-like wind that pelted Scrafty when it swooped in. The air sliced at him with a sort of buzzing, so Ivy figured it had to be Silver Wind. The powder soaked into the fighter too, and then he started to look angry, like the dust had evoked a rage. He only had eyes for the moth as his limbs shifted, ready for battle.

One of the semi-transparent screens faded out in the air above the Volcarona, and that mist that seemed to be covering her faded just slightly. Not much had happened, but Ivy knew that James was going to have to think of something to damage the moth soon. If she stayed out there, she would be able to pick off Scrafty easily.

OOC: Alright, 12k to go. WE CAN DO THIS!

With a slight whipping of his head forth, Scrafty let out a very loud and somewhat-intimidating roar. Volcarona seemed ataken back by this and turned to look at the humanoid-looking Pokemon. She hissed a little as her ability to concentrate on the very elegant and precise dance was lost for now and she dove straight into attack mode, which got me and Scrafty slightly off gaurd. Her white furry part began to shake and I saw some black dots fall from it onto the ground below her. She made a screeching noice, similar to that of a Gyarados except it was a little more high-pitched and definitely was not good on the ears. A breeze - clearly made by the Volcarona began to whip up and soon Scrafty was being pelted by the black dots and the strong wind.

"Hmm, judging by how weak that wind was, I'm guessing that she has used Silver Wind. That isn't really a prob-" I stopped myself shport when I saw Scrafty's face. He was fuming and bouncing back and forth impatiently. Clearly there was something in those spores - most likely Rage Powder by the looks of it. I wasn't to sure what Rage Powder did, but I had heard the symptoms before and I knew this was it. With a quick flash of my Ultra Dex, I typed in Rage Powder into the "Moves" section on the little portable machine. It began to whir as it was completing its search.

"Rage Against the Machine, Rage comics... Roid Rage... Rage Maker... Rage Builder... Rage faces... Rage reactions," I said skimming through the flashing list. "Ugh, this is useless," I said, pocketing it immediately. Well, obviously those spores were supposed to enrage the Pokemon, probably like the move Taunt which prevented the opponent from using moves that didn't cause direct damage, like Encore, Toxic, Thunder Wave and so on. Scrafty was little or no use to me with his small movepool even more limited.

"Come back, Scrafty," I said as his angered, stooped body was sucked into the capsule. Now, what Pokemon was I to send out next. I had only brought Rotom-wash and Togekiss. Togekiss was a newer recruit whose skills were less refined, but it had an amazing support movepool and could beat up the Volcarona with its powerful moves and had endless supplies of tricks up its sleeves, well wings. Rotom I had had for months on ends and it was a true beast, able to take many hits from Volcarona and it also had a great ability to know what I was thinking or plannning to use, and its natural Type advantage would be helpful.

"Rotom-wash, come out." With that flash, similar to that of a digital camera, Rotom appeared in the body of a washing machine. It scanned the Volcarona and its birght blue orb-like eyes for a moment. It was hovering up and down slowly. "Rotom, this may seem like a not-so fearsome opponent. But, I need you to trust me - this is one helluva tough opponent and we've been battling ages. I just need you to help finish him off."

"Give her one of your shocking Shadow Balls," I commanded, knowing Rotom would get my hint immediately. I needed paralysis on this Volcarona to help keep it weak and also to stop it being crazy fast... and maybe make it easier to capture in the long run. I needed Rotom to inject a Thunder Wave into the Shadow Ball attack.

Rotom's 'arms' (for want of a better word) shot out infront of Rotom and began to vibrate slowly. Slowly, a dark black and grey ball began to form and slowly expand in size. I saw a glimpse of blue sparks for a split-second and then Rotom unleashed the Ghost-type attack.

"Now, try smack her with a Discharge!"

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

James seemed to recognize the Rage Powder and didn't like it. As soon as he saw Scrafty become enraged, he didn't hesitate to call the fighter back. That was a good idea considering Scrafty might not take the environment into account and go charging off the ledge when he tried to attack.

“Rotom-Wash, come out,” he said, releasing the washing machine once again. It had dealt with the Growlithe pretty easily earlier, and since Volcarona was of a similar type, it shouldn't have too much trouble. The machine scanned its opponent for a minute before the Trainer spoke up again, telling it that this battle wouldn't be a cakewalk.

Rotom seemed to understand, and then James commanded his next attack. “Give her one of your shocking Shadow Balls,” he said, hinting that it was a combination attack of sorts. The washing machine started drawing in darkness in front, and the wisps swirled as they formed an orb that hovered. Ivy could see the tiny sparks of some sort of electricity though, so it would be interesting to see how this attack panned out.

Rotom unleashed the attack when James called out for a follow up of Discharge. Then the Ranger started to worry. Volcarona was busy charging up an attack of her own, but she was out in the open air above the lava pit. If her suspicions were correct, James was going to try and paralyze her with his modified Shadow Ball, and if she couldn't fly, she was going to fall.

With a cry, the moth unleashed her fire, a blast forming in the shape of a five-pointed star. The fire roared past the Shadow Ball, barreling into Rotom. Since it was part Water-type, the fire wasn't going to do much to it, but it did knock it back a little to delay the Discharge. The Shadow Ball slammed into Volcarona at about the same time, only being partly deflected by one of the semi-transparent screens before it faded out of sight.

Ivy saw the cackles of electricity wrap around Volcarona's limbs, and then Rotom let go of the lightning it had been charging, shocking the moth even more. Without really thinking about it, Ivy released Haxbat's ball from her belt and told Haji to be ready to intervene if they needed.

James may have hit the moth hard, but she was now struggling to fly. Her wings seemed hard to flap, and she was losing altitude. He would have to act fast to help her, or else Ivy would have to do it. She wasn't going to let it fall into the lava. Haxbat fluttered at her shoulder as he waited for the word. Volcarona was falling...
