Individual RP: Synthesis (Deckbi)

OOC: Male I guess and long posts are so hard to do mobile -_-

Suddenly the Dunslarce tore out of the ground, sending rocks and bits of sandy debris shooting upwards as it did so. Some of the rocks grazed against the harsh spectrum of light above that Togekiss had become. Looking up at it I could've swore that those Jahova witness things would've mistaken it for the virgin Mary or something. I chuckled a little at this thought. The chuckle soon turned to mirthless laughter when I saw the little land snake cowering and covering up its body as it used the Coil move. It was being clever trying to cover up its weak spots but also it was clever for becoming more concentrated and ready for attacking mode. It really reminded me of a seedy little snake in the grass right then and a jolt of inspiration came to me.

"Togekiss, come here my little buddy," I cooed. I saw the little Dunsparce's blue rimmed eyes turn into slits as he watched me praise my Pokemon. This confirmed my thoughts that he was a lonely creature and I knew just how to get at him now. "Good job, Togekiss," I said with a broad smile as I patted him clumsily on the head. Togekiss looked a little surprised but seemed tl enjoy the affection. I whispered into his ear when we were at eye-level, "alright, this is what we're going to do. First I will command you to use Encore, but don't really. As you pretend to clap and encourage him I want you to secretly copy his stat changes that he has gotten from the Coil. By then your attack and accuracy will be quite high so you can use Focus Punch and Extreme Speed. I have a strong feeling this Dunsparce will try and Magic Coat you when he expects an Encore." Togekiss nodded before zooming away back to the makeshift battlefield.

"Togekiss, use Encore," I said loudly. The Dunsparce seemed to be pulling an odd face but I suppose it resembled smirking, if only a little bit. I saw Togekiss bring his wings together slowly creating a sort of beat, quite similar to how Encore worked but he was being far too slow and clumsy so I knew the attack wouldn't actually work. As soon as the Dunsparce seemed even a little distracted I saw Togekiss slide his right wing backwards and his eyes half-closed with concentration. He let all his power and energy flow into that one wing as he began mimicking the previous clapping sound with his mouth. All he had to do know was use the speed from Extreme Speed to shoot forwards and then slam into Dunsparce with his wings.

Granted, this was awfully risky but I believed that my Togekiss could do it.

As the Dunsparce readied himself to strike, James praised his Togekiss. Ivy immediately saw the dark look the land snake got as Togekiss flew over to his Trainer and got patted. She could almost see the storm cloud above his head, fuming that he wasn't the one with the attention. James seemed to notice it too, so he built on it.

He praised the bird more, and the look on Dunsparce's face just got uglier. Then, the Trainer whispered his commands. Ivy barely heard it, which was probably a combination of just being closer and training with her Crobat. The thing was pretty sneaky, and he liked to try and move around undetected. She had gotten swept off her feet so much that she learned to listen extra carefully.

James wanted his bird to pretend to use Encore to catch Dunsparce off guard. Then he was going to have him copy the boosts Dunsparce had just given himself and use it to launch himself into an Extreme Speed attack. It was a pretty good strategy. He thought the Dunsparce would try to use Magic Coat again to reflect the Encore.

“Togekiss, use Encore,” he said once they were done plotted, making sure the Dunsparce could hear.

The bird went into some fake clapping, creating a sound that it was able to mimic easily with its mouth once it started concentrating to copy the stats and attack. Ivy frowned a bit, not knowing if this would work perfectly.

She could see Dunsparces face, and he had eyes locked onto the bird. If anything, he seemed upset at this cheering. Maybe he knew it was fake and that it was mocking? He seemed to be the type that always wanted to be the center of attention, and when he wasn't, he was angry. Maybe he had taken a deeper offense to James praising his Pokémon. Building it up might not have been such a good idea.

In fact, Dunsparce seemed to grow cold, his rage a silent, frosty thing. Actually...wait. Ivy blinked a few times, but her eyes weren't deceiving her. There really was an icy fog coming off the Dunsparce as he charged up some kind of attack, his eyes still dead set on the bird.

Togekiss got done studying the other Pokémon right after that, and then he launched himself in the Dunsparce's direction. In a flash, he slammed into him, but at that same time, the land snake unleashed his icy fury. A crackling Ice Beam shot out, clipping Togekiss in the wing and sending him crashing into the ground after his attack. The Dunsparce was knocked back, but again he locked his eyes on the bird. Ivy wondered what he was doing.

Togekiss looked up, catching the gaze, and then he was paralyzed by the dark look he was receiving. Dunsparce was clearly enraged. With a sneer, he flicked his body and burrowed into the ground again, disappearing from sight.

Ouch. That wasn't good. Who knew how long Togekiss would be immobile for, and since he was on the ground, that put him in range for almost anything Dunsparce could throw at him. The Ranger didn't know if she had ever seen a wild Pokémon be that mad. At least he had taken some damage though, so that would help wear him down in the long run.

OOC: Oh derp. Drain Punch isn't Focus Punch :X

The Dunsparce continued to shoot venemous looks at Togekiss as it was using Psych Up. The Dunsparce's eyes almost seemed to turn a dark crimson colour for a split second. He advanced a little and looked to be blowing some air. I almost commanded Togekiss to stop as I wasn't quite sure what was going on here. But I would've been too late anyway as Togekiss shot past me like a speeding bullet. Just before she blasted into the Togekiss he seemed to shudder a little. I noticed then that he had used a particularly misty or foggy icy attack that was nearly invisible in the heat from this distance. Togekiss took the brunt of the attack and when he swerved around, he stopped almost immediately.

I realised that this must've been Dunsparce using its Glare attack as even with his back turned Togekiss knew something was up. He turned around only to lock eyes with the most venemous stare I had ever seen. Togekiss seemed petrified by the attack and my heart went out for him as he seemed to freeze over. The ugly land snake disappeared under the soil again.

"Ugh. This thing is getting annoying! Hang in there Togekiss. Try and gather yourself in preparation for the next attack. No doubt he will try and pull something sneaky. Start with using Work Up if you fan buddy," I said giving him a reassuring smile. Well the best one I could manage to do in this tricky situation."

The thing with Work Up was it didn't just raise the users attacking stats but it helped to boost their confidence as well. What I hoped was that Togekiss would lose the effects of the glare if he allowed himself to think and move freely and also to acknowledge just how powerful he actually was... or something of the sort. Looking at Togekiss, he seemed to be doing a little jiggle of sorts but I could see the faint traces of a smile starting to form so perhaps it was starting to work after all!

"Excellent job. When the ugly snake pops out of the ground I want you to try and slam it with a Drain Punch. I know you don't do this all that often but with your boosted attack it could weaken the Dunsparce and also help to heal you. Win win situation," I said with a cheesy grin.

James looked unhappy with the Dunsparce's tricks, but he wasn't giving up yet. “Ugh. This thing is getting annoying!” he shouted. Then gave instruction to his Togekiss. “Hang in there, Togekiss. Try and gather yourself in preparation for the next attack. No doubt he will try and pull something sneaky. Start with using Work Up if you can buddy.” James smiled at him, trying to get him out of the daze he was in from the Glare.

Work Up could be done in several different ways. She had seen a Mankey use it to propel his rage and make him stronger, putting his body to the limits by making himself even angrier. It could also work in a positive way, boosting confidence and strength. James was going for the latter way, and she thought that was better.

The bird moved, focusing his mind and wearing off the paralyzing effects of his moment of fear. His muscles loosened, and a small smile started to form on his face, so she thought the move was working. Soon he was moving around, awaiting the next command.

“Excellent job,” the Trainer called. “When that ugly snake pops out of the ground I want you to try and slam it with a Drain Punch.”

The Togekiss nodded and charged up, keeping his eyes peeled for the land snake to pop out. As if the Dunsparce heard James, it poked its head out of a hole that appeared in the center of the field. Maybe he did, she thought, since he seemed to be glaring at James now. He was probably offended that James called it ugly.

He sneered at them again, and then Togekiss darted off. He smashed into the other Normal-type hard, and Ivy could see the energy being transferred from Dunsparce to the bird. Then, the land snake chomped down onto one of Togekiss's striking wings. A wave of water rose out of the hole they were around, flaring up in a spiraling pillar that made the bird cry out.

When he tried to fling Dunsparce off, he held on, his teeth not letting go. Togekiss tried to fly anyway, and eventually Dunsparce fell off and rolled along the ground a few feet before righting himself. He huffed and gave more dirty looks, and Ivy couldn't help but laugh a little. James would have fun battling with him later.

Just after I had finished talking the land snake leapt up out of the ground and straight towards Togekiss. I was beginning to suspect some form of trickery was going afoot as he seemed to know exactly where Togekiss was, is and will be, despite being hidden under the ground. The little critter clutched onto Togekiss with his outstretched jaw and clamped down rather hard. Togekiss grunted but he didn't seem all that hurt, luckily enough for us. Then after a little trembling from below I saw a jet of murky water shoot up from out of the ground and strike Togekiss. Obviously, this was a makeshift trap that the Dunsparce had pulled and I wasn't sure whether to like him or not.

Togekiss truely was a beast and took the blunt force of the torrent without too much damage, then respinded by slamming his fist straight into the underbelly of the fat snake. He seemed to hiss a little in pain and distaste of the move. Togekiss was also looking better almost immediately and I grinned. However, there was one thing still on the back of my mind that I wanted to get out. That paralysis could end up annoying Togekiss later on so he needed to get rid of it. But, I also wanted to try and capture this Dun sparce immediately.

"Togekiss, I want you to try and use Psycho Shift and then follow up with a swift Air Slash. After these moves I'm going to try make the capture."

Psycho Shift was the best move for this particular situation. Togekiss would create a mental link with the opponent and make them aware of the burden they had caused Togekiss (it would be paralysis in this case), and more often than not the Pokemon themselves would start feeling the symptoms and get the same ailment. However, Togekiss would end up ridding himself from the status in the mean time. It was kind of confusing but it was sort of like tricking the opponent into taking your status. Ingenious! Air Slash was just for a little more damage and to keep the snake away from Togekiss while I would chuck the Super Ball.

Then I realised I was being a derp and didn't have Psycho Shift on Togekiss yet.

"Scratch that. Just use Air Slash."

I withdrew the Super Ball and got ready to hurl it the second Togekiss had performed his move.

James decided he was going to try for a capture. He thought for a second, looking at Togekiss. At least he wasn't paralyzed from fear anymore. The Trainer seemed to have missed that though, because of his next command.

“Togekiss, I want you to try and use Psycho Shift and then follow up with a swift Air Slash. After these moves I'm going to try and make the capture.” Then the Trainer had a strange look on his face as he muttered, “Scratch that. Just use Air Slash.” She supposed Togekiss didn't have that particular move yet, or maybe he had realized that he wasn't suffering from a status.

He took out his Super Ball and got ready to throw it right after Togekiss attacked. The bird flew up and flapped his pretty wings hard for a second, and then a blade of air materialized and hurtled toward the Dunsparce. It hit the land snake hard and sent him rolling in the dirt again. Then James thew the ball just as he was getting up.

The land snake saw this, but he didn't do anything outwardly to prevent it. Instead, he was looking at Togekiss, seeming to study him. Then he looked pleased, and he gave a happy cry as he twisted in place, kicking up dist in his twirl. A blade of air appeared near him too, and then it flew toward Togekiss. He had mimicked the attack just done. It hit the bird but didn't hurt him too bad since there was less force behind it.

On the way, it clipped the Super Ball, sending it sailing back toward James and landing a few feet from him. Looks like that capture didn't work. Luckily, the ball didn't seem damaged or anything, so it would be easy for the Trainer to retrieve it and try again.

A blast of air seemed to hit the staring Dunsparce, but he didn't seem all too fazed by the attack. With a flick of his rattling tail he returned the favour of the Air Slash. Unfortunately for us, I had chosen that very moment to try and make the capture. The momentary spell of air hit the Super Ball and knocked it off course. It didn't seem too badly damaged or anything so I figured that I may as well try and go for the capture again.

"I hope that Mimic was an accident. Dunsparce. Hopefully you'll want to join us..?" I trailed off. He responded with a very passive face and I smirked a little. I took out another Super Ball - there'd be time to pick up the old one later. I chucked it at the pudgy land snake and all I could do was hope...

James saw the other Super Ball wasn't damaged at all, but he pulled out a different one anyway. He tried to pacify it with words, but she didn't know how much effect they were having on the land snake. The Trainer wasted no time in chucking the ball toward the Dunsparce despite the dark looks he was getting from the last attempt. Maybe what he said wasn't working.

Everyone watched the ball go through the air, including Dunsparce. He didn't stay motionless for long though. His body immediately went into motion, scrambling away from the incoming device as his claws scraped through the sand leaving trails. Seems he wasn't just going to give up, even though Ivy could see how he panted. He wasn't moving as fast either.

Ivy saw what he was aiming for; one of the tunnels he dug previously. He was still trying to escape.

Dunsparce made it to the lip of the tunnel before the ball neared. He flung dirt up at it and tried to scramble inside to avoid it, but the ball touched down on his back, and he was sucked up in a beam of red light. The ball rocked back and forth violently on the edge of the tunnel, but eventually it stilled. It pinged to signal it was full, and then Ivy breathed a sigh of relief.

“Wow, that was pretty intense.” She walked over to pocket the ball, dropping the device in with the Growlithe's. “Are you still wanting to go into the caves? Your Litwick disk should have some life on it yet, but it's gotta be real close to ending.”

The Dunsparce shared a very mutinous look with the soaring Pokeball. Then he tried to scramble away. I was a little annoyed as he tried to make for the sandy tunnels he had dug earlier- but then again, not too shocked as this guy really was a moody fella. Luckily for me though, the ball clipped him on the back and he was swallowed into a beam of red light coming from the ball. The ball wriglled on the sand violently before coming to an abrupt halt. I wasn't too excited to catch the ugly thing anymore. I turned around and grabbed the Super Ball I had tried to use earlier after a momentr of searching. It looked fine and perfectly good to use upon a quick inspection. Could come in handy later on, I figured.

“Wow, that was pretty intense.” She walked over to pocket the ball, dropping the device in with the Growlithe's. “Are you still wanting to go into the caves? Your Litwick disk should have some life on it yet, but it's gotta be real close to ending.”

I looked up to see the sun had immersed itself behind some clouds for now and figured the heat may be getting a little more bearable.

"Nah. Let's head up along the caveside and maybe towards the volcanoes. Never been there before. Hopefully it won't be too hot."

To be honest, there was one reason that I wanted to go up along the caves and head towards the volcano, something I had only just realised. There was an extremely rare, but presumably very powerful Pokemon that could only be found in the most hot places. It was called Volcarona, but it's pre-evolution was what I was after. I knew if I wanted to get a Volcarona I would have to travel far deeper into the volcano than I had known any person to ever go before. It was such a high interest for a collector like me. Larvesta tend to thrive in the hottest areas too, but I figured it would be easier to find one of them than a Volcarona, not to mention having to actually battle one of them. The Fire Demon was a nickname it had soon accumulated after word spread of its existence from a far-off place called Unova-- or Issue or something.

My parents would have warned me about doing something dangerous like this, well they wouldn't have cared about me but they probably wouldn't want me to bring someone up with me on my trek. In fact, my father, who was an Infernape for some reason, would probably encourage me to go there and see what his heritage is like. Perhaps on my way up I would see one of his many relations that tended to live around these parts. Okay, perhaps I shouldn't have brought this up without explaining my true heritage. It is a long tale that goes well with waffles of all types (except blue). Many years ago in a faraway land called Sinnoh there lived a woman (my mom), who had two ugly stepsisters. They were so mean to her and always picked on her. Sometimes they even made her do all the work in the house - various mundane tasks that no one wanted to do, such as wash the dishes and cleaning around the house with a feather duster... oh and vacuuming the house every weekend.

Then, one day when she was leaving potato school, it is mandatory in my home country, she tripped over a potato and landed on top of someone. He was devilishly handsome and the two got acquainted under the cabbage fields. 9 months later I came along. At the sight of the baby,. he fled and my mother got so depressed that she went to Deckbi to hurl me over the edge of the volcano because they didn't have clean abortions then. While on top of the volcano she met an Infernape who took me off her hands and I grew up here. It explains why I have manners like a monkey.

James decided he didn't want to go into the caves anymore. Ivy had looked forward to the cooler temperature of the caverns a bit, but there was a cloud cover forming, so that was helping a little by adding shade. Hopefully it wasn't signaling something ominous was coming.

“Let's head up along the cave side and maybe toward the volcano,” he said. “Never been there before. Hopefully it won't be too hot.”

The Ranger hoped the same. Even if it wasn't, they were still going as long as the Trainer wanted to. They started trudging up the mountain path then, and Ivy could feel it slope upward every time her foot took a step. That's how the upward paths went. The higher up you were, the more rocks there were. She knew eventually there would be no clear path and only chunky rocks to walk on. It was already starting to get that way, though at least they could still see the path.

The stones were all dark, some just natural and some darkened from their slate gray because of the ash that fell here thanks to the volcano. She could already feel the air getting a little thicker and harder to breathe with, and it only got more difficult as you went up. A small whitish rock stood out on the edge of her vision, huddled between two ash-covered rocks. She got a closer look, and then the skull helmet of a small Cubone could be seen. She stopped, motioning to the Pokémon.

“Hey, James, any interest in an Cubone?”

I couldn't tell how exactly Ivy felt at not going to the caves, but staying in the dry heat. Her face remained passive and professional which was pretty good, I guess. Anyway, we started walking up the mountains. It wasn't too steep at first but then there was a sharp incline in altitude as we continued to trek upwards. The tough hike and the hot weather were really hard to cope with alone never mind together. Suddenly, my ranger stopped and motioned towards a whitish rock next to some clumps of ash. I relaised that it wasn't actually a rock, but a skull and was mildly horrified until I realised that it was actually the headpiece of a Cubone.

“Hey, James, any interest in an Cubone?”

"Nah, I think I'm gonna pass on this one. I do want to use this voice disk here," I said, pulling out the pokeplayer and the voice disk of a Drilbur I had purchased. I got ready to play it as we made to move forward. "I'll buy a Pokedoll if the Pokemon remains persistent however."

James didn't want to catch the Cubone, and thankfully the Ground-type just laid back down in between his two rocks instead of making a fuss about it. The Trainer did want to play another disk though, so she waited for him as he pulled out the player and put in a fresh disk. The call of a Drilbur sounded. She recognized it from the run she went on in Deckbi where Chainy captured one.

She waited a second to let the call echo through they area, and then they continued on up the rocks, the scenery never changing its rocky texture. They were getting a bit more frequent though, and the path was slowly starting to disappear as the ground was littered in more jagged rocks. She asked Haji if he wanted to return to his ball, worried about the soles of his paws, but he told her he was fine, so she let it rest at that. He would probably tell her if it became a problem. Probably.

They continued up until a rummaging sound to her left drew her eyes. At first all she could see was a blue fin sticking out, looking like a shark was embedded in the rocks. Dirt and small rocks flew out into the air behind it, and she could hear scuffling. Then the creature lifted its head, and she got a good look at the dragon with the reddish underbelly.

It had a couple stones in its mouth, and she watched as it found a flatter stone and dropped its catch onto it. A winged claw poked out to sift through the contents, but it wasn't satisfied and brushed the pieces off. Gabite were known to dig for gems to take back to their nest, sort of like the old dragon guarding the treasure sayings.

It stopped what it was doing to look at them, and Ivy asked her required question. “What about a Gabite?”

Luckily for me, the Cubone barely spared us a second glance and remained in its pitiful state just lying there. I did feel a little guilty for the poor fella but I quickly put the disk in and a growl came out of the Pokeplayer. I had never heard the sound of this Pokemon before, but it wasn't a bad one. So we continued up the mountain, heading higher and higher. The terrain seemes to level up a little bit the further we went on until it was a bit like a plain of boulders and craggy surfaces for the next stretch. I heard a scuffling sound nearby and turned to see a Gabite rummaging around in the ground, making odd grunts as it kicked up sand and stones.

I knew that pictures of Gabite were considered quite valuable so I had my trusty camera out in no time.

“What about a Gabite?”

"No thanks. I'll take a picture or two though, if you don't mind."

The Gabite turned around just as I took the pictures. Click! Click! Like the paparazzi.

James didn't need a Gabite, but he did want to take a picture of the somewhat rare Pokémon. There was sure to be someone back at the Main Outpost that would like a copy of it, especially when it was working.

The Dragon turned around just as James hit the button to take the picture, and the Gabite blinked at the light. It had a mildly annoyed look on its face, but soon after it just ignored them and went back to work, sifting through the rocks and dirt for the rare stones it was looking for.

They continued on up the path, minding the sharp rocks under their boots and trying to breathe carefully as the air got thicker. She could see some falling ash a bit up ahead and knew they were getting closer to the lip of the volcano. It'd get really hot up there.

A tiny tapping noise made Haji's ears perk up, so Ivy looked around for the source. They came around a medium-sized rock to find a small red bird tapping its beak against a rock, trying to make a dent in it. It stopped and looked at them when they were in view, and it chirped a greeting with a happy look on its face.

“Any interest in a Torchic?” she asked.

The Gabite seemed to ignore us after I took the picture and we got ready to head off on our way again. I could get used to this cycle of moving around the Park, taking pictures and meeting with some rare and cool Pokemon that some people may have never seen before. As we continued up the hill the ground became a little sooty and it reminded me greatly of a faraway place in Hoenn called Fallarbour, which had soot everywhere. A bit of ash landed on my head and I knew we were sure getting up high.

I saw the Espeon turn around suddenly and I too began hearing a soft, repetitive sound. It was a little pecking sound and soon we saw the tiniest, cutest Torchic ever. I just wanted to squeeze the life out of it.

“Any interest in a Torchic?” she asked.

"Uh, it's so adorable and cool. But I have to pass for now. I know I'll regret this later, but hopefully she will like a Pokedoll?"

James debated for a second, but sighed and said, “Uh, it's so adorable and cool. But I have to pass for now. I know I'll regret this later, but hopefully she will like a Pokédoll?”

At the mention of them leaving, the Torchic got a little teary. Ivy could see it's beak wobbling a bit like it was going to cry. She hated seeing a Pokémon in distress like that. “Ah, yeah, I think you better. We don't want her to get upset.”

James handed over the stuffed toy, and the small bird looked a little happier, though she still looked a little reluctant to let them go. She didn't fuss any further though, and they were allowed to continue on up the mountain.

The ash began to fall harder, so she flipped up the hood on her long vest to cover herself a little bit. It wouldn't really due too much harm, but sometimes it was annoying to get out of her hair. Some of the long red stuff traveled down the front of her shoulders anyway, but at least it helped a little. The air was thicker too. She wondered how James was holding out.

Then, Haji's voice flashed through her mind. “Look out below you,” he said, and she looked down and moved her foot just as a Diglett popped up from under the ground where she was going to land.

Ivy stumbled and tripped forward a little, able to brace herself on one of the larger rocks so she didn't fall down. It put the small mole Pokémon in between the Trainer and Ranger.

“Ack, here's another one,” she said. “Change your mind about Diglett?”

"Chick?" the little Torchic chirped as it saw we were about to go, head cocked to one side. I felt so bad almost immediately but the little chick seemed a little more cheerful at the sight of the Pokedoll. The chick still seemed a little disappointed that we were going but at least it had gotten a free toy out of it. I gave the chick a big smile as we left.

The falling ash was getting quite annoying so Ivy pulled up her hood as we walked along and I envied the hood. I would have to make do with trying to ignore the bits of ash that were getting annoyingly more common. Ivy jumped suddenly, nearly tripping and falling onto the ground. I looked down to see a disapproving look on her Espeon and another brown mole looking at me.

“Ack, here's another one,” she said. “Change your mind about Diglett?”

"Uh, no thank you. I guess we're gonna try flee again.. I'll buy a Pokedoll if needed, however.

James didn't change his mind, but before she could say anything, the Diglett disappeared underground without a trace. She checked with Haji, but he felt nothing, so the mole wasn't going to try and trip them or something sneaky like that.

They continued on, and the ash got thicker. It was coming down in snowflakes now, and it was sticking to any surface it could find. The path had disappeared completely by now, leaving them only rocks to tread on. Ivy watched Haji jump from ledge to ledge and inwardly winced. It had to be hurting his feet a little since the rock edges were unforgiving, but every time she asked he just shrugged it off. He was either tougher than she thought or was just being stubborn. He had a tendency to do that. He didn't like to make her worry.

Then, Haji drew her attention to the ground. “Use your senses. Can you feel it?” he asked, so she focused her mind and cleared it of everything else as she concentrated.

An energy source was traveling below them, cruising through the dirt like it was nothing. She could almost see the faint lines of energy through the soil as she used her mental abilities given to her by the link with the Espeon. The ground rumbled a little under them then, and then the energy got closer.

A few feet away the floor burst open, sending small rock pieces and ash and dust into the air. Another mole-like Pokémon popped out of it, only this one wasn't brown. Its dark coat blended pretty well with the ash, though Ivy could see the stripes of blue. The white face and long snout was different too, as were the massive white claws.

The Ranger recognized the Pokémon from one of her own runs. Drilbur were pretty rare, and they evolved into the much-sought-after Excadrill, fierce battlers and incredibly strong Pokémon. Chainy had captured one on that run.

She had almost forgotten that James played a disk for it. She turned to face him. “Well, since you got the disk for it, wanna battle this Drilbur?” She didn't think he'd say no.

OOC: I changed the journey up a little bit. Hope you didn't mind.

Just after sayung that I wasn't particularly interested in the Diglett, it popped under ground in a very comical way, with a 'popping' sound and everything. I was pretty sure that this could have been a game that the Diglett was trying to play with us because they were very unusual Pokemon that always want to mess around and wreck havoc if you leave them be. After a few wary glances around through the fog (though the chances of me seeing him was slim to none in the dense fog), I figured that the Diglett may have actually been nice and let us go on our own. I bowed my head and then continued up the craggy, ash-ridden surface after Ivy, my Ranger. As we trekked up the mountainside I noticed that it was getting really hot again all of a sudden and looking up in the sky, I could still see the thick clouds blocking the sun's rays. I realised that this must have been because we were near the volcano's core. Togekiss didn't seem too affected by the heat as he swerved around large rocks, enjoying the new landscape.

We continued on for a little bit before coming to a steep cliff. I stopped a few feet away and looked down at the amazing scenery below. It was the kind of thing you'd see on a really detailed postcard. The land below changed from the soft yellow sand dunes, straight through to the rocky caves, the plains in the distance and somewhere in the distance there was a crimson red line travelling the surface of one of the mountains heading straight from a steamy summit.

"Wow," I said. "Is that a river made from lava?"

After a few minutes of taking in the magnificent scenery we began to move on but suddenly Ivy's Espeon stopped, her red jewel glowed a darker shade and her tail pricked up suddenly. Ivy looked from her Espeon to the cracked surface ahead. The ground gave a little tremble and I almost fell over, well I lost my balance anyway. As I looked at the same spot as the purple cat Pokemon and my Ranger I saw dirt, stones and clumps of ash shoot up into the air before me. After a little hole had formed an odd looking mole Pokemon came out. It had two large arms resembling drills and I liked the way it looked. I knew after a little bit that this was a Drillbur. It was quite rare and it evolved into a very powerful Pokemon that few people had, but many wanted.

“Well, since you got the disk for it, wanna battle this Drilbur?”

I completely forgot that I had played the disk that had most likely attracted the cute Pokemon to this exact location. Now that I actually thought about it it could have easily been following us all along from underground and we would never know the differenece. There was probably a huge network of dark tunnels down below that Ground type Pokemon liked to thrive in. Actually, perhaps this Drillbur was the reason the somewhat-crazed Diglett came out of the ground looking started, and then shot away down in a different direction almost immediately.

"Yeah, I think I'll go for this little fella. He sure looks like a badass," I said as he turned his attention from us to a larger rock and began to sniff it with his snout. He rubbed his claws over it delicately and I was quite curious as to what it was doing. I figured this would be the best time to think of what to use for the battle. After a koment's hesitation, I realised what it was that I wanted to do exactly.

"Okay, Togekiss, you have served me really well so far so you should be proud of yourself," I said givng my egg Pokemon a slap on the back as he whizzed by. After a brief spell of white he was back in his ball, safe and comfortable. I knew exactly the opponent for this Drillbur, however. Slowly, while maintaining eye contact with the cute moleso it wouldn't flee, I withdrew a deep serene blue and silver-striped Pokeball. It seemed to shine a little more than usual in the harsh light coming fown from the glaring sun above.

"Scraftinator, come on out, you little legend," I said with a proud face as a bipedal orange creature materialised before me. He had a badass red mohawk and his pants seemed to be sagging a little, giving him the uncanny resemblence to a child from the ghetto areas over in America. His large droopy eyes and general slowness didn't help him to break the stereotype, unfortunately.

He looked up from me to the Drilburr and grinned. He sure loved to battle and Ihad a feeling he would get a really good one here since we were high up the volcano and only the toughest Pokemon could survive up here, let alone live a peaceful existence and call this absymal place their home. He shared a wary look with the smug-looking Drillbut that battlers and their Pokemon tended to do before a battle. It was a good way to acknowledge that the opponent that you were ready to fight and that you meant it in an honest and fair way, none of those cheap haxing strategies with moves like Thunder Wave, Confuse Ray and Attract, among others, that were designed to reder your Pokemon incapable of battling in cheap manners. I just did not like thosemoves and hopefully the opponent wouldn't either.

"Alright, Scrafty, here's our first plan of action. We shall start off with a Dragon Dance and then try and smack it around with a Drain Punch. Got that?" He tilted his hod slowly in a bodding fashion while still keeping locked eyes with the opponent so he would be prepared for whatever was to come next. I liked to use this particular strategy here because Dragon Dance was a very handy move that few Pokemon could learn because it required pure concentration and focus so that the Pokemon could stimulate its senses and pay attention to the area around it and its surroundings. It also focused all its energy to make it more concentrated and harder hitting.

Drain Punch was also a very nifty move. Not only did it deal damage but it was also a STAB move (Same Type Attack Bonus. This helps make his Fighting and Dark type moves stronger so I knew that they woupld be very helpful here), and it was also Super Effective.

James looked like he had forgotten about the disk he played earlier, and between all the other excitement, maybe he did. He did decide to battle though. He may as well, seeing how he didn't have a full set of Pokémon to take out of the Park yet, since they were allowed to take three home. He went through all that trouble of getting a disk too. They weren't that cheap.

He didn't want his Togekiss to battle though, so after some words of praise, he returned the fluffy white bird to his Pokéball and sent out another. A bipedal Fighting-type Pokémon appeared in his place. He had orange-tinted skin and a red Mohawk, and the yellowish clothes he wore seemed to be really baggy and in the process of falling down, like how kids on the mainland wore them.

“Alright, Scrafty, here's our first plan of action. We shall start off with a Dragon Dance and then try and smack it around with a Drain Punch. Got that?” James said.

Scrafty nodded and looked at the Drilbur, starting to move in specific and strange motions, channeling power into himself. Every Pokémon that learned Dragon Dance did it differently, and she liked to watch how it was done. The careful, purposeful footsteps and body motions always intrigued her. It was sort of like when a Pokémon called down the rain.

The Drilbur decided it was going to do a dance of his own too, only this one was less refined. It dragged its claws over the rocks, and they made a sound that made her wince as the points formed. Light glinted off of them, reflecting off the sharpness. Then it waited.

Scrafty finished his dance and took off toward the mole with his arm pulled back, prepared to strike. He did, even though the Drilbur tried to move. Scrafty wasn't really prepared for the backlash though, and Drilbur struck out with his claws. It smashed into Scrafty, sending him flying back as the mole's follow through swing broke apart the rocks next to him. Then the mole quickly backed up and struck the ground.

Deep cracks appeared, and the ground they were standing on rumbled as a couple deep fissures appeared in the earth, making some rocks jut out farther than they had been and others to fall deep into the ravine. James and his Pokémon were going to have to be careful moving around now.
