    BP-4: Empoleon VS Slugma

    Ranger John Shay

Tibeirus nodded; he had understood what I said, then.

"Great job, Tyranitar. Time for some rest, return." Tiberius returned Tyranitar to his Pokeball. He took out another one with clear resolve. Turning to me, Tiberius said, "Sorry about the damage to the environment, I’ll be more careful this time. Okay, Empoleon, you're up."

Tiberius threw his Pokeball. His Empoleon appeared. Like Tyranitar, Empoleon had a type advantage against Slugma. However, Slugma didn't seem fazed.

"Okay, Empoleon, use your Swagger attack on Slugma!" Tiberius instructed.

Empoleon nodded, and set her eyes on Slugma. The two Pokemon stared at each other, Empoleon doing so a bit more haughtily. Slugma was confused by Swagger's effects, and his Attack stat went up by two levels. The latter was evidenced by a newfound aggression that had certainly not been part of the Pokemon's attitude before Swagger.

"Slugma!" the Pokemon yelled loudly. However, despite his aggression, he was definitely in a confused state. His eyes were unfocused, and he seemed to be experiencing a bit of a headache.

Slugma turned his head to face Empoleon. Flames suddenly erupted in front of his body, and with surprising speed, Slugma tackled Empoleon. I recognized this attack as Flame Charge. It was a physical attack that increased the user's Speed. With Swagger boosting Slugma's attack, I expected Empoleon to take augmented damage.

Slugma wasn't done yet. With his newfound speed, Slugma hopped into the air, and begin rolling around like a rock. Slugma was using Rollout! I didn't expect the Pokemon to learn this move, but Slugma was now rolling towards Empoleon. Slugma connected, and turned around for another attempt.

The first hit was always the weakest, I recalled. Even with the Attack boosts, that first Rollout hit shouldn't have done too much damage. However, the next hits would do more and more damage. Empoleon couldn't allow Slugma to get on a roll (pardon the pun). Fortunately, with Rollout's unreliable accuracy and Slugma being confused, Tiberius and Empoleon did have options to play with.

To my surprise the Slugma had hit Empoleon with Flame Charge and Rollout attack. Slugma still had a will to fight that seem unbreakable, at this point in battle but would not stop me from getting it and this battle was not over yet. Now what move to use I was going to use a water sport attack so it’s fire attack would, but weakened but it’s using rollout attack so that was out a Flash Cannon, might work to in this matter as well Empoleon also knows Grass knot, and Brick Break which would also be good against the Rollout attack and Pokemon. I want to stop this attack and do some good damage at the same time but with out KOing; it so a Brick Break would do the job right. A thought pop into my head about my, Empoleon and it move pool I whip out my Pokedex and my Empoleon pop up on it I took a closer look at it and there it was, Bulldoze attack Empoleon was big enough to stop it and do damage plus it would slow down slugma.

“Okay Empoleon use your Bulldoze attack now!”

Empoleon took one step back then launch him self at the Pokemon it was tough to get his speed up at first because, of the sandstorm but once he got going he was not stopping for no one and was moments for a collision with Slugma.

"Okay, Empoleon, use your Bulldoze attack now!" Tiberius commanded.

I raised an eyebrow. This was an interesting strategy. Tiberius was having Empoleon go right at Slugma, despite him having two attack boosts and some momentum to his Rollout. Still, since Empoleon was much stronger than Slugma to begin with and Bulldoze had a type advantage over Rollout, there was some merit to this strategy.

Empoleon charged towards Slugma, who was rolling towards him. The two Pokemon were in each other's paths and gathering momentum, though I remembered Slugma's confusion had to be worth something here. As a matter of fact, due to many different factors involved, It was impossible for me to predict who would come out on top.

Empoleon collided with Slugma. A large dust cloud was tossed up into the air, and I waited for the dust to settle, anxiously awaiting to see who had come out on top.

Empoleon was standing over Slugma. From the looks of things, Empoleon had taken a little bit of damage as well. However, Slugma had clearly taken more. The Pokemon was at Empoleon's feet, clearly in pain. From what I knew about Bulldoze, the Speed boost from Flame Charge should have been eliminated as well - Bulldoze dropped the target's Speed stat by one stage, essentially negating Flame Charge's effects.

Both Pokemon slowly shook off their blows. Eyeing Empoleon fiercly, Slugma blew out a stream of flames at it. This was Flamethrower, a very powerful Fire-type move. What would Tiberius and Empoleon do about this?

I watched anxiously as both Pokemon drew closer to each other until, both collided into each other. The dust settled and Empoleon had won fight Slugma, was now weak the look in it’s eye’s told me that it was at it’s end. Now all i had to do was finish, the battle off and move on to the next Pokemon waiting for me in the place. So what to use with out KOing; Slugma, with it’s power almost gone it let out Flamethrower in what seem to be a all out attack to try in KO; Empoleon, with only a split second to react I needed a move to counter attack the Flamethrower and weaken Slugma a little more. A Aqua Jet attack could stop it but it was a normal attack, and i needed a move that did special attack the one thing that pop into my, head was a Hyrdo Pump attack but that would KO; him so it was out but Brine would not make him faint.

“Okay Empoleon use you’re Brine attack!“

This was it Empoleon summoned it power he looked at the Slugma with a glare in his eye’s , then launched it’s attack at the Pokemon. This would be Slugma’s last move, for this battle if thing want my way. I grabbed a Pokeball for my belt and waited for the right opportunity to throw it at Slugma. It was like time had slowed down watching both move about to hit.

OOC: I'm going to have to ask you to step up your post quality a little bit. This isn't the first time I've asked you to do so, and while I have noticed a subtle difference, I still feel that the creativity and grammar of your posts in particular is not up to standards, so I'd like for you to put some more effort towards improving those areas of your posts a little bit. I suggest thinking out what you want to do a little bit more, and applying some standard grammar rules to your posts to make them neater and more legibile.

Tiberius was clearly thinking about what to do next, though he lacked time with Flamethrower rushing towards Empoleon.

"Okay Empoleon, use your Brine attack!" Tiberius yelled.

I immediately did a double take. What was my Trainer thinking? It was true that Brine was normally an underpowered move with a Base Power of 65, Brine's strength doubled to a whopping 130 BP when it was used on already weakened Pokemon. The only Water-type move stronger than the strengthened Brine was Hydro Cannon, and only a select few Pokemon were able to learn that move. Odds were, Brine could KO Slugma. That would be a horrible start to Tiberius' first attempt at a capture in the National Park.

Despite some evident confusion about his Trainer's selection, Empoleon launched a strong stream of water from his mouth. This was Brine, a move similar to Water Gun, although the water used contained some salt. That salt was how the attack did more damage if the target was already hurt. The salt would sting the target's existing wounds, resulting in amplified damage.

Brine collided with Slugma's Flamethrower. It instantly resulted in steam clouding the battlefield, but I could see that Brine had easily powered through Flamethrower. I hadn't expected anything else - Brine had a natural type advantage over a Fire-type move like Flamethrower.

"Slugma!" the Pokemon cried. I could see a panicked look in his eyes. A soft yellow light began glowing around him - was this what Slugma intended to do about Brine? Against such a powerful move, I didn't expect Slugma to have anything in his arsenal that would be able to do anything about Brine.

I noticed the bruises and scratches on Slugma's body fading away. I realized he was using Recover - a truly shrewd move in this situation. By recovering his health, Slugma would reduce Brine's strength as well. Brine collided with Slugma, and while Slugma didn't have enough time to juice the maximum possible health recovery out of Recover, I suspected he had had enough time to recover his health above the 50% mark before Brine had hit. That should be able to significantly reduce Brine's strength.

The steam cleared away. Slugma was resting against the tunnel's walls. Clearly, he had been propelled into it by Brine. Despite taking a super-effective hit, it seemed that due to Recover, he still ended up with a little more health than he had had before he had used Recover.

Slugma locked eyes with Empoleon. Judging from the clear look in his eyes, it seemed that not only had he been able to recover some health, but he had snapped out of confusion as well. The confusion hadn't lasted a long time, but it was certainly possible for a confused Pokemon to snap out this early.

Intense red flames were forcefully emitted from Slugma's body, and they flew towards Empoleon - Slugma was making his move. I recognized this as Lava Plume. Lava Plume slammed into Empoleon, and the Pokemon stuttered back.

    "Empoleon!" he cried in disdain.

I noticed Tiberius had pulled a Park Ball out. It seemed he had planned to capture Slugma after Brine, but in light of how things had turned out, would he still follow through with that?

Brine had over powered Flamethrower and done some damage to Slugma, but it had used recover to get back some of its strength. I didn’t know it could use recover, so I whipped out my Pokedex, and sure enough it was there with some nasty moves like Pain Split. That was a move I didn’t want Slugma to use against Empoleon. I switched the Ookedex to Empoleon to see some moves he had to use against this Pokemon. And Slugma had just snapped out of confusion to make things worse. With the sandstorm still brewing, I still had a limited line of site to see both Pokemon, but that was not problem. It was that this Pokemon was not given up as easily as I had thought. With +2 attack and still fighting, I was starting to see what a fool I looked like. One little Pokemon had stopped me dead in my tracks, I had to get though this battle now then. Slugma locked eye’s with Empoleon and and intense red flames were forcefully emitted from Slugma's body. They flew towards Empoleon. Slugma was using a Lava Plume attack. I knew this because I had used this attack before. It had slammed into my Empoleon, he stuttered back and let out a cry of pain. This had to stop, my Pokemon were taking to much damage, so it was time to end this battle.

“Empoleon, use your Aqua Jet attack now!”

Empoleon let out a loud cry, he jumped into the air and let out a water attack that looked like a Hydro Pump attack in front of him. His body was covered in water and he began to spin at a rapid speed towards Slugma. Right before he was about to hit, I threw the pokeball at Slugma would this be the end or not?

"Empoleon, use your Aqua Jet attack now!" Tiberius commanded.

Empoleon obliged. Water surrounded his body, and Empoleon launched himself at Slugma at a blinding speed. Aqua Jet was an incredibly quick move, and with a type advantage in Empoleon's favor, I expected this attack to deal a nice amount of damage.

Tiberius took out a Park Ball. It seemed he was going to try for a capture. He tossed the Park Ball at Slugma as Empoleon collided with him.

The Park Ball sucked in Slugma, and began shaking. I watched as it shook once, then twice. Would Tiberius' second capture attempt in the Park be a success?

Ding! The Park Ball shook once more, then stopped shaking. Tiberius now had a Slugma!

I smiled at him, and tossed Slugma's Park Ball into my backpack along with Geodude's from earlier. "Good job, Tiberius. Shall we continue?"

I watched as close as I could to see what the outcome of the battle would be, as the Pokeball was about to hit. Empoleon’s attack hit Slugma and the Pokeball went over Empoleon’s head to strike Slugma, who was then sucked up. The ball fell on the ground and started to wiggle. The ball wiggled twice before I heard the ‘ding’ sound. It was finally over and Slugma was mine.

“Return, Empoleona it’s time you got some rest. Good job out there.”

As I recalled my Pokemon back to its Pokeball, Ranger Shay picked up the Pokeball and put it with the one I used to catch Geodude earlier. Ranger Shay looked at me and smiled. "Good job, Tiberius. Shall we continue?"

“Yes please, let’s go see what Pokemon is waiting for me now.”

OOC: I'm going to be going to Portland for a few days (leaving on Christmas morning). If I have time, I'll post while I'm there, but either way, I'll be coming back around the 28th. Just a heads up and Merry Christmas :)

"Yes please, let’s go see what Pokemon is waiting for me now," Tiberius said eagerly.

I nodded, and we continued making our way down the tunnel. Looking at my map, it seemed that we were about halfway through the tunnel. Odds were, we'd see a few more Pokemon before arriving at the volcano.

The next Pokemon we saw appeared before us very quickly. As we hiked down the tunnel, I noticed a trail of displaced dirt cutting across our path. I stopped, holding out my arm so Tiberius wouldn't trip over it.

We had already happened on these kinds of dirt trails earlier. They had belonged to a Diglett. This time, however, was it a Diglett or a Dugtrio? I looked around, looking for where the dirt trail ended. I found it a few steps farther into the tunnel. I stepped over to it, and lightly tapped my foot on the pile of dirt.

    "Diglett!"

Immediately, a small brown mole poked its head out of the dirt. It seemed Tiberius had another opportunity to capture a Diglett. If my memory served correctly, Tiberius had registered a little bit of interest in the Diglett last time, but decided against trying for a capture. What would be his decision this time?

"Interested in capturing Diglett this time around?"

We continued making our way down the tunnel. Ranger Shay was Looking at his map, I took a small peek at it and it seemed we were half way through the mountain with only one Pokemon to catch. I was anxious to which Pokemon was going to pop out next. As we were walking Ranger Shay put his arm in front of me, I looked at his and he was looking at the ground. I looked down to trails of dirt, Ranger Shay took a few steps to see where the trail ended, he taped the ground lightly. “Diggett” the little guy popped out of the ground and I can only catch one more Pokemon so I was not going to use a Pokeball on him.

“Ranger Shay I would like to use my last pokedall and get away from this Pokemon.”

"Ranger Shay, I would like to use my last Pokedoll and get away from this Pokemon," Tiberius said, offering me his final doll. I nodded, and set the doll down on the ground.

"Diglett!" Immediately, the Pokemon burrowed its way over to the Pokedoll, ecstatic to happen upon one. Pokemon were always entranced by the item - it was fascinating to observe. At any rate, I led Tiberius past the distracted Diglett and we continued on our hike.

I could see the exit that led to the inside of the volcano up ahead. We were almost out of this suffocating tunnel, and then we would be inside the observation deck within the volcano's interior - one of the most interesting areas of the National Park. There, I should be able to find out what the problem was regarding the volcano. However, we still had to walk along the tunnel for just a little bit longer.

    "Slugma!"

I jumped back, and a small puddle of lava burrowed out of the ground. No, it was another Slugma! Tiberius had already captured one of these, so I doubted he would want another one. However, I had to ask.

"Want to add another Slugma to your collection?" I inquired.

I gave my last Pokedoll to Ranger Shay and he put it on the ground. The little mole Pokemon was overjoyed to see the little Clefairy doll. It burrowed under ground and and popped back out in front of the Pokedoll to play with it. Ranger Shay and I moved passed it and continued on through the cave. As we were walkingm the air was get harder to breath and we were getting closer,to the mountain core. I heard a voice come from up ahead of us.

    “Slugma.”

A Slugma had burrowed out of the ground right in front of us. My Ranger turned to me and asked if I wanted to catch the Pokemon.

“No, I do not want to catch it. Lets run away, if he tries to stop us, I would like to get a Pokedoll from you to use.”

"No, I do not want to catch it," Tiberius told me. "Let's run away. If he tries to stop us, I would like to get a Pokedoll from you to use."

I nodded. Maintaining eye contact with Slugma, I tried to skirt towards the sides of the tunnel and edge around the Pokemon. Would it let us pass?

"Slugma!" the Pokemon roared, blowing flames at us. My Dragonite countered the attack with his own Flamethrower, but was careful to avoid hurting Slugma. This wasn't our battle.

Tiberius handed me a wad of money, and I dropped another Pokedoll on the ground. Like with Diglett earlier, Slugma's attention was immediately fixated on the doll, and I safely led Tiberius away.

We approached the tunnel's exit, and walked out on to the observation deck. It was a unique structure built for the benefit of Trainers exploring the area, though it also helped Rangers maintain the area. It was a large metal platform built into the side of the volcano's interior, and we could peer over the edge to see the bubbling lava below. There was a walkway leading off from side of the small platform that led all the way around the inner wall of the volcano before connecting back to the opposite side of the platform. Glass barriers prevented us from falling over. There was air conditioning, but it was still excruciatingly hot. We were inside a volcano, after all.

I frowned. The lava below was bubbling a lot more than was normal. I knew there was a problem, but it really seemed as though the volcano was about to blow. What was wrong?

    "Regirock!"

A large rock slammed into the glass above us. No, it wasn't a rock - it was the fist of the legendary Pokemon, Regirock!

"Don't worry," I said to Tiberius. "Regirock won't be able to break the glass. It has been tested by the manufacturers and proven to be able to withstand even an M203 grenade launcher. As powerful as Regirock is, it isn't a threat. For now, you can simply observe the legendary Pokemon until it decides to leave. It's not every day you see a legendary Pokemon. Tell me when you want to continue around the volcano. We will be able to see some Pokemon along the way because Pokemon tend to burrow into the volcano walls that the platform is attached to."

Meanwhile, I began thinking. Regirock was clearly upset over something, and while it wasn't a problem to us, as a Ranger, I still had to handle it. Also, as a legendary Pokemon, Regirock had a natural connection to the land around it. It was probably no coincidence that both Regirock and Mt. Deckbi were distressed. I just had to figure out what the problem was.

Ranger Shay and I began to walk by Slugma. Ranger Shay locked eyes with the Slugma. "Slugma!" the Pokemon roared, blowing flames at us.

Ranger Shay’s Dragonite countered the attack with his own Flamethrower, he was careful to avoid hurting Slugma after all, this was not the fight. I handed Ranger Shay a wad of money, and he dropped another Pokedoll on the ground. Like with Diglett earlier, Slugma's immediately fixated his attention on the doll. Ranger Shay led me away from the Pokemon, it looked like we approached the tunnel's exit. I remember Ranger Shay’s map, and this was on it. We walked out on to a observation deck. It was a unique structure built into the mountain for the Rangers’ benefit I should think. Maintaining the area would be hard, but with this it made thing a lot easer. It was a large metal platform built into the side of the volcano's interior, and we could look over the edge to see the bubbling lava below it was nice to see this sit up close like this. There was a walkway leading off from side of the small platform. Ranger Shay was leading me there to move on. There was glass barriers preventing us from falling over. There was air conditioning, but it was still excruciatingly hot. We were inside a volcano, whitch was cool, but it was still too hot in here. A large rock slammed into the glass above us. I looked up to not a rock, but a legendary Pokemon called Regirock. My Ranger looked at and said not to worry, that the glass would not break. This was nice to see but I didn’t buy a camera at the store, boy did that suck. So I whipped out my Pokedex to get data to it, after all this was a rare sight to see, but the Regirock was not happy with that, and the volcano was acting up. Something was wrong and I had a idea of what might be going on, but I would keep it to my self for now.

    “Okay, let’s move on please.”

"Okay, let’s move on please," Tiberius said.

I nodded, and led him off of the observation deck and onto the adjacent walkway. Regirock followed us, its heavy footsteps echoing through the glass. I wasn't particularly unnerved as I knew the glass was strong enough to carry Regirock. However, I had to admit that I was concerned about why it was inclined to do so. At any rate, it should help me get to the bottom of things. As I continued thinking, I led Tiberius around the walkway and kept an eye out for Pokemon.

One appeared quickly. A snout poked out from the wall to the side, and a small brown alligator burrowed its way out of the earth.

"It's a Sandile!" I exclaimed. From what I knew, these Pokemon were somewhat popular and uncommon. While I wasn't particularly fond of them myself, I would not be surprised if Tiberius found the Pokemon to his liking.

"Want to try your hand at capturing Sandile?" I asked Tiberius.

Ranger Shay led me off the observation deck. As we were getting off, Regirock followed us to the end of the observation deck. I turnd to get one last look at the legendary Pokemon. Ranger Shay and I continued down the tunnels. To help pass the time, I whipped out my Pokedex to see all the the Pokemon I had run into. Nine Pokemon had crossed our path, and two of which I captured. I liked the Pokemon I had got, however, there was one Pokemon I should have captured, which was Aron, but all was not lost. I had hope that one great Pokemon would show it’s face around here. I kept looking around when Ranger Shay spotted a Pokemon. A snout poked out of the side of the of the wall, a small alligator Pokemon burrowed its way out of the earth.

“It’s a Sandile!” Ranger Shay shouted.

This was the gold pokemon of my run. Sandile evolved into Krookodile, which was a powerful Pokemon. The little brown Pokemon had three black stripes on its snout to make it look fiercesome. I was not going to pass up a Pokemon like this. It was time to get me a sandile.

“Okay, I’ll battle Sandile, and start things off. I’ll use my Swampert.”

I reached my hand to the side of my belt and grabbed Swampert’s contaminant ball. I threw it in the air. A flash of light came from the ball and my big blue Swampert appered in front of me.

“Swampert, let’s get things going. Use your Mud Bomb attack on Sandile!”

Swampert wasted no time digging into the earth. Using his large hands, he had dug out two man-sized globes of mud. Swampert then picked them up, one in each hand, and tossed them at Sandile. While the attack looked like giant chunks of mud, I knew that Swampert had infused some Ground energy into the earth, so that when they came into contact with something they would explode.

    BP-1: Swampert VS Sandile

    OOC: Gender?

"Okay, I’ll battle Sandile, and start things off. I’ll use my Swampert." Tiberius tossed the Pokeball containing his Swampert, and the large blue behemoth appeared in a flash of white light.

"Swampert, let’s get things going. Use your Mud Bomb attack on Sandile!" Tiberius shouted.

Swampert nodded, and she dug her hands into the ground. She yanked out two spheres of mud, and tossed them at Sandile.

"Sandile!" the Pokemon shrieked, trying to jump away. However, Sandile mistimed its jump, and instead leaped into the attack. The Mud Bombs exploded violently, and I winced - that had to hurt.

Sandile fell to the ground, steaming a little. Drops of mud splattered into the ground around it. Sandile seemed a little dazed by the attack. Not only that, but I noticed there was some mud in its eyes. I recalled that Mud Bomb could lower a Pokemon's accuracy, and it seemed to have done just that in this case.

"Sandile..." the Pokemon moaned, rolling over so that it was on its four legs again. With one eye shut because of the mud in it, Sandile began running towards Swampert. Its jaws were opened wide, and I suspected this move was the Crunch attack. It wasn't particularly strong, but it wasn't weak, either. I watched to see how Tiberius would respond to this attack.

Swampert’s attack had hit Sandile. It had tried to jump out the way of the attack, but mistimed its jump and instead jumped right into Swampert’s Mud Bomb attack. Just like Mud-Slap, Mud Bomb had a chance of dropping accuracy of a Pokemon that the attack hit. I looked at Sandile saw she got mud in her eye. She closed that eye shut then began to run towards Swampert, her jaws opened wide. I had seen this move before, it was a Crunch attack. I was going to counter-attack, but instead of a counter attack, I would have Swampert use its Protect and shield herself from the attack.

    “Okay, Swampert, use Protect!”

Swampert eyes began to glow a bright green color, then a ball of energy had surrounded Swampert. This shield would Protect Swampert from any attack that came her way. The light from Protect lit up the cave, I could finally see what was in front of me, for once. There was a lot Pokemon tracks through the cave that I could not see before. The cave walls looked like someone had carved into them as well. I had never seen carvings like that before in a cave, but the Pokemon that lived here were probably the ones that had did it.

    BP-2: Swampert VS Sandile

    Ranger John Shay

"Okay, Swampert, use Protect!" Tiberius commanded.

A blue-green barrier of energy shimmered around Swampert, protecting her from Sandile's attack. Sandile stopped, realizing her attack would not be able to go through.

"Sandile," the Pokemon growled, clearly irritated by this development. She began scraping her claws across the ground as she waited for Protect to fade away. At first I thought this was an absent-minded thing, but I soon realized Sandile was actually taking this time to use Hone Claws and bolster her offensive stats for the remainder of the battle. It was a shrewd move.

As Protect faded away, Sandile began attacking. He began thrashing around, landing a few hits on Swampert. I recognized this as Thrash - a powerful but wild and often uncontrollable attack. With Hone Claws, its strength was to be feared. However, there could be repercussions towards Sandile upon completion of this multi-turn move, as Sandile would end up confused. For now though, Swampert was in a bit of a tough situation.

Sandile, stopped its attack realizing that it would not work. Then she started to scrap her claws across the ground, I didn’t know what it was trying to do but it was acting strange. I took a look at my Pokedex to see what it might be doing, and I found the move Hone Claws, this move would boost the attack of Sandile for the rest of this battle. Swampert’s Protect was now fading away, Sandile wasted no time with its attack, she started to thrash around. She hit Swampert a few times but I didn’t worry about Swampert. She could take a lot of punishment, and deal a lot out as well. Now I had a plan to weaken Sandile, but would it work? It was time to find out.

“Okay, Swampert use your Mud-Slap attack”

Swampert dug up a nice puddle of mud and slapped it at Sandile.

“Great job, now use your water gun attack Swampert!”

This was exciting, I had never done a double attack before. Swampert took a deep breath and exhaled out a burst of water, the water from Water Gun mixed with the Mud-Slap, this would hopefully give a little Power to both attack some what.
