"Use poison this time Team Forretress Two." Alpha immediately wondered what the trainer meant, seeing as there was no move called "Poison" at all--at least he thought that Ryan meant Toxic. Forretress retrieved itself inside its shell and prepared itself to secrete combine toxins from its body to create a purple sludge towards Girafarig.

Girafarig, on the other hand, prepared itself before the Forretress could release its Toxic to Girafarig. The tail on its back stood upright and glowed with a greenish-white color. Suddenly, Girafarig was enclosed in a green, crystalized barrier that could protect itself from status-inducing moves.

"This isn't a good sign," Alpha said to Ryan, hoping the best for him.

Forretress just came out from its shell as it spat the purple goo at Girafarig. The Toxic attack didn't manage to penetrate through Girafarig's Safeguard. While it was cloacked in its barrier, Girafarig tried to ram its head on Forretress with a nice Tackle attack. It bumped its head into Forretress' steel body, managing to move it back a little bit.

(ooc: I have developed a report with the Forretress, part of the way we battle is by not letting other pokémon know exactly what moves we will be using.")

So both Toxic and Zap cannon had failed. This really wasn’t Ryan’s day. He still had a few tricks up his sleeve however and Team Forretress two would keep on trying till it inflicted some form of status condition upon the Girafarig, or until Ryan got sick of the battle and gave up.

The problem was, the Girafarigs’ safeguard would protect it from such conditions for a while. A new strategy would have to be developed, and Ryan had a perfect plan in mind. As a general rule, the longer a battle had been going on, the easier a wild Pokémon was to capture.

Ryan planned to sit out the battle for a while and pounce further down the track. Team Forretress was the perfect Pokémon to help him do this. It’s stalling potential was almost infinite and when it got low on health, it could just steal some of its opponents.

This health steal technique was going to be essential in later battles but for now would only be used to keep the Forretress conscious; time was there to be wasted.

In the interests of wasting that time, Ryan ordered a move that seemingly had no benefit at the current time, though the benefit would be felt later. That move was Protect.

The Forretress erected a wall of pure energy in front of itself, nothing that the Girafarig did could break through the shimmering blue barrier.

All of a sudden, Forretress retrieved back into its shell again when it was surrounded with a large green barrier that could protect it from any physical nor special damages that Girafarig would make. "They're using Protect, I'm very sure." Alpha wasn't liking their silent strategy at all. They're just giving him a hard time deciphering their tactics and schemes--not that he's helping the Girafarig in the first place.

Whatever they're plotting, Girafarig knew that Forretress used Protect. Its two white antennas flashed with a purple aura until these auras began to connect to one another, making Girafarig's whole body glow with the same-colored aura.

"Calm Mind, eh?" Alpha thought. Girafarig was intelligent enough to think this out--for a Psychic-typed Pokemon.

Afterwards, Girafarig's tail looked up in the sky, noticing each cloud pattern there is to notice. Then, it blurted out a water beam towards the sky. The temperature became humid and moist all of a sudden, when it began to rain. Girafarig using non-attacking moves this turn turned out to be useful for him, depending on what tactics it wanted to imply the next turns.

Ryan watched as the Girafarig set itself up to completely rule the battle. He still didn’t have a way of actually capturing it and now he was being punished for time wasting. Still, he accepted that he’d brought it on himself. Maybe it was time to try toxic again, just to see if anything useful happened. If he tried enough times, eventually he would set the Girafarig on the path to being captured.

Ryan therefore called out to Team Forretress Two, “Try and poison that damn thing again, if we try enough times, surely we’ll succeed, and make it toxic poison.”

The Forretress was still hiding in its shell, but slowly began to rock back and forth as he imbued the bile in the back of his throat with his natural toxins. Then the Forretress peeped out from inside it’s shell and spat the vile gunk at the Girafarig.

    Girafarig BP#4

"Try and poison that damn thing again, if we try enough times, surely we’ll succeed, and make it toxic poison." Ryan pointed its index finder at Girafarig. Sure enough, he wanted Girafarig damaged and inflicted with status effects to weaken it for a sure success. Although maybe those weren't all the things he could need to ensure a successful catch.

Forretress stopped with the green barriers and came out of its shell again. A large gunk of purple sludge made its way slowly to Girafarig. To the giraffe, it thought that the Toxic attack was easily avoidably because it was going on one direction only. That direction wasn't even precise enough to be directed towards Girafarig. Dodging to the right, Girafarig has evaded the Toxic attack easily.

"And now it'll slowly proceed to its comebacks," Alpha warned Ryan.

Girafarig's head glowed with a blue light, bowing it down. Its front two feet were being rubbed onto the ground, signaling them of its charge at Forretress. The blue light became strong enough that thin lines came out as the blue light shined brighter. After a few seconds, Girafarig began to charge towards Forretress with full force using Zen Headbutt.

"Try all it wants, it could never damage Forretress heavily," Alpha giggled, watching as Girafarig rammed itself at Forretress. He was right, the Zen Headbutt did little damage to Ryan. Rain continued to fell and Girafarig has bigger plans in store for Ryan's Forretress.

Ok thought Ryan, this time we can surely poison it, even if alpha thinks a different technique is best. I’m the trainer and I’ll battle my way. Ryan’s stubborn streak was coming out; this could only hurt him and his Pokémon in the long run.

Ryan was aware of this great fault in his personality but wouldn’t do anything to fix it. Maybe he should have but he just didn’t have the heart. Almost out of spite, he called out to the Forretress that was facing down the giraffe Pokémon in front of it, “use the same move again, but spray it everywhere this time.”

He was also abandoning his silent strategy; it hadn’t been helping much anyway. The Forretress was also seemingly getting frustrated by its inability to land a clean hit on the Girafarig. Surely eventually one would be landed.

Ryan was starting to sweat, these trips to the park took up time he didn’t really have, but were a necessary part of running Canalave gym. He knew that back home, there would be a queue of people waiting to challenge the gym as well as a bunch of physics work from the local university. Still, getting back to nature and catching Pokémon was a nice distraction.

The Forretress, echoing its master’s frustration at the amount of time being wasted in this battle, once again built up a wad of saliva, infusing it with the natural toxins in its body. This time when it attacked however, it sprayed the purple goo at high speed in an arc of 1 pi radians between itself and the Girafarig, half pi radians to each side of it.

Let the Girafarig dodge that thought Ryan.

    Girafarig BP#5

OOC: Before asking any other ranger to claim this RP, please ask my inactivity first before you do so. It annoyed me that you're impatient enough to wait on a single RP post. In case you want to know, I was busy during the weekend because I had to attend MY graduation rites, and my cousin's rites.

    IC:

"Use the same move again, but spray it everywhere this time," Ryan commanded again. This time he was going aggresive at Girafarig--he planned to spam Toxic everywhere, hoping that Girafarig would get struck by poison in this battle.

Forretress got inside its shell again, but this time there were grumbling sounds inside its shell. "Creating toxins, perhaps?" Alpha wondered, figuring out what Forretress was doing inside. Soon, its body was glowing with a poisonous purple aura, with Girafarig looking dumbfounded at the large metallic bug. Alpha looked to his right, facing Ryan. He was sweating, acting all nervous at this attack.

Forretress finally came out from its shell and spat a large ball of poison towards Girafarig. Its eyes widened, afraid on what it should do, since the poison was reaching it quickly. Alpha knew that Ryan enhances his strategic skills for his gym. Within a small amount of time, the large toxic gunk exploded into an even large amount of number. It was raining poison on Forretress' behalf.

"I think I'll go hide somewhere else." Alpha still had time to run someplace safe, somewhere the poison rain couldn't reach him.

At last, Girafarig's tail was struck by the small orb of poison created by Forretress. But it was ready to make some counters. Girafarig ran towards Forretress as fast as it can, hoping to survive the toxic within its body. Dashing and leaping into the air, it aimed one of its foot at Forretress, attacking with a strong Stomp.

"That should hurt as well, but not that much," Alpha giggled. He watched Girafarig make some damage by stomping heavily on Forretress' steel body.

(OOC: I sent you a VM 3 days ago, and a week is a long time.)

    -------------
IC: Ryan watched in glee as the toxins finally got past the Girafarig’s defences. Now it was time to let the poison take its toll and but that would involve waiting. First however, Ryan and the Forretress would have one last shot at paralysing the Girafarig.

Without the Lock-On support that the earlier Zap Cannon had been packing, this attack was unlikely to hit but would greatly raise the chance of a successful capture if it did.

The Forretress began to make a faint buzzing sound as it began to vibrate. Then the vibration became a pulsating energy, electrical currents passing all over the skin of the Forretress, then sparks began to jump, though they didn’t have enough energy to reach anywhere other than the other spikes on the Forretress, the airs electrical resistance was still too high.

Next the sparks began to jump to the ground, the electrical potential of the Forretress becoming more and more negative. If anyone were to touch him now, they’d get a rather large shock, literally.

Finally, the sparks were jumping almost as far as the Girafarig, several meters away. Ryan had moved behind a tree, he knew how devastating this attack could be and he didn’t want a wild misfire hitting him.

The Girafarig surely knew what was coming and had plenty of opportunity to dodge but the lightning fast bolt of electricity was thundering through the air on a trajectory that would put it to the left of the target. If the Girafarig jumped the wrong way, there would be crisped skin, and hopefully Paralysed Girafarig.

((Cautious isn't a nature. I don't know who's error this is, but I assume that what was meant was Careful. Anyways, Gender on Girafarig?))

Forretress gathered a mass of writhing sparks around it, sending before them in the general direction of the Girafarig. They bounded across the thin walkway in the gardens, scattering and creating a sea of electricity around the area. Ryan had already ducked behind one of the fancy, manicured trees. Alpha followed suit as the blast grew.

The Girafarig was unphased by the display and launched itself into the air. It landed in the brunt of the electric blast, but seemed to take little damage. It then charged the Forretress, smashing its head into it with a shower of psychic sparks. It then landed in the electrical sparks, stunning it for a second. After it recovered from the shock, it smacked the bagworm Pokemon sharply with a kick and leapt away, taking more damage from the Zap Cannon attack.

As the electric sea dissipated, it became apparent at how much it had hurt the Girafarig. Poison and sparks coursed through its body and it was beginning to weaken. The Forretress had taken some damage, but looked none the worse for wear. The giraffe looked like it would flee.

"Watch out!" Alpha called out from behind the tree. "The Pokemon might get away!"

Ryan watched the Girafarig carefully, he’d never heard of one fleeing, but there was a first time for everything he supposed. He didn’t want to scare it and he didn’t want his Forretress to take too much more damage.

Team Forretress Two looked slightly smug, he knew the plan and realised that even though it was being hurt here, he would be stronger and more efficient when Ryan finally reached his target Pokémon.

Ryan had a contemplative look upon his face, the Girafarig was simply staring at him, it’s discomfit apparent on its face.

Ryan looked to Alpha before stepping slowly out from behind the tree. He had to make this next move his own, but at the same time, he didn’t want anything horrific happening to his Forretress. It was then that a supremely obvious move occurred to him. All he had to do was order the Forretress to protect himself. If that happened, the poison would further damage the Girafarig.

Yet even as he thought that, Ryan’s right hand dropped into his left pocket, the one he used for storing regular parkballs, his hand moved almost of its own volition, dropping down and snagging a ball, then with an over arm motion, Ryan sent the ball flying straight towards the Girafarig. He only hoped the Pokémon would be captured.

((I still need a gender for the Girafarig...))

Ryan's eyes narrowed as he stared at the nervous Girafarig. After pondering a little, he fished around in his backpack and pulled out a standard Pokeball. He then tossed it into the air, aimed at the double-headed giraffe.

The Girafarig looked even more startled than it was before as it vanished into the capsule with a flash of light and a shower of sparks. The ball fell to the cobbled floor of the greenhouse and began to wobble. Once, twice... Three times and captured! Ryan had caught the palindrome Pokemon.

Alpha walked over to the Pokeball, picked it up and stuffed it into his backpack. Alpha noticed that the rain that the Girafarig had caused was fading to a mere drizzle. He then turned to the Trainer.

"Should we move to a different location," he asked. "Or do you want to try again with the voice disks?"

The female Girafarig was safely in the ball; Ryan let a small smile enter his face, but only for a very brief moment. He still hadn’t done what he was here for.

He turned to the gear he had left on the ground behind him, the Feroseed disk he had been using was snapped in half, but thankfully he had a few more. Despite this, the disk that Ryan pulled out of his CD wallet was not labelled Feroseed, it was labelled Durant.

Ryan thought that a change of pace and a change of target might influence his luck. He was odd like that. The location looked right for bugs to be hanging around though, so he figured it couldn’t hurt.

As Ryan hit play on the sparkling pokeplayer, he turned to Alpha and asked, “Is there a cave around here? I’ve heard Durant prefer caves?”

His mind was now set on capturing a Durant, if he failed at this as well, his park trip would have been practically worthless.

Ryan seemed happy that he had caught a Pokemon, but his face was set with grim determination. He just had to capture something that he had intended.

He ejected the broken voice disk from the Pokeplayer and replaced it with another. This time, however, it was for a Durant.

As Ryan hit the play button, he turned to Alpha and asked, “Is there a cave around here? I’ve heard Durant prefer caves?”

Alpha looked around, racking his memory for something of that sort. There weren't really any caves in the Botanical Gardens, but there were some rather large, almost mountainous, ant hills that had been set up in an area close to this one. He knew because he had helped to move them. It was back-breaking work.

"I think they're this way," Alpha told Ryan. "No caves, just Durant hills."

Alpha led Ryan toward the Durant piles, the scratching bug-like Durant calls playing all the while. After a few minutes, there was a rustling in the bushes ahead. Alpha motioned for his Trainer to stop.

"This could be it," he said, turning to his Trainer. "We're close, now, so I wouldn't be-"

He yelped as he was cut short by a Leaf Blade. Alpha fell to the ground next to Ryan, bleeding from three cuts on his back. While they seemed severe, they could probably be healed swiftly if he were taken to a medical hospital. What had slashed him was standing a few feet away. There was a Sceptile, leaf-bladed arms at the ready. They must have encroached on its territory. They wouldn't normally be this aggressive.

"Not again," Alpha moaned. "Could you help me out? A replacement will come, but first the Sceptile needs to be driven off."

Ryan fell on the ground beside the injured alpha, he quickly scrambled to the backpack that had come off when he fell, inside were some bandages and a camera. His first action seemed to have backwards priorities, but he was hoping a camera flash might drive the sceptile off.

He therefore raised the camera to his eye and sighted down the viewfinder, taking a marvellous photo of the sceptile. Ryan was still a fan of analogue cameras so he couldn’t just press the play button to see what he’s taken.

That didn’t really matter, the sceptile had stopped attacking and Ryan had stopped watching it, hopefully it would flee.

He then turned his attention to Alpha who was bleeding quit badly. Ryan rolled him onto his back and started bandaging him up. That medical part of his degree never ceased to come in handy.

Ryan then reached over to press the play button on the radio that had stopped whilst he was working. Hopefully the next Pokémon they encountered would be a Durant.

    ((Sorry for the late post))

As soon as Alpha fell to the ground, bleeding from the wound, Ryan jumped into action. First, he did the odd thing and took a picture of the Sceptile swinging its bladed arms at his Ranger.

The bright flash of light did indeed scare away the bright green lizard, which let Ryan get to work tending to Alpha's wounds. They didn't seem to be life threatening, but would probably need better medical attention.

Ryan then sat on the ground next to his Ranger and pressed the button on the Pokeplayer, causing the Durant's cry to reverberate through the Gardens.

"I've called for a replacement Ranger," Alpha said. "I have the worst of luck. I guess I'll have to recover from these injuries now."

As he said this, a bright spec appeared on the horizon. It soon grew in size and its color intensified, revealing a shining Skarmory. It swooped down, landing on the pathway where the two people were.

It dropped a letter into Ryan's hands before flying off with Alpha in its talons.

    The letter read:

    Dear Ryan Hoare,

I am Domonic Stone, the Ranger who will be taking the place of the injured Alpha. I will be flying over to you shortly. Sit tight!

    ~D. Stone

As the Skarmory vanished into the horizon and the Pokeplayer began to stop, there was a small squeaking sound. It seemed to be coming from a small patch of flowers. Then, the Gracidea flowers began to move, revealing a small, white face. The flowers were really a shy, flower-covered Pokemon. A Shaymin, a legendary Pokemon.

Ryans first thought as he saw the skarmory was happiness, he thought he had finally encountered a steel type Pokémon that he actually wanted, then it landed in front of him. It wasn’t acting like a wild Pokémon, and it was carrying a letter.

It was then that Ryan realised that Skarmory weren’t even found in this part of the park normally. Now he had no ranger with him and a playing pokeplayer, this wasn’t the best of situations!

That was when he heard the faint squeeking noise. It didn’t sound quite right to be aDurant but it still had his hopes up, if it was Durant with rusty legs, he’d be rather happy.

Unfortunately it was a Shaymin, something told him he wouldn’t be allowed to catch that!!

He simply picked up his Camera and took a photo of the Shaymin causing it to flee.

Next, he bent down and pressed play on the pokeplayer, surely this dominic guy wouldn’t mind if Ryan caught a Durant whilst he waited!!

As I waited for my Skarmory to return, I thought about the recent turn of events. I was about to fly into the middle of the Botanical Gardens to finish up a run through the park with a Trainer. Alpha had been brutally attacked by a Sceptile, which was unusual. Attacks almost never happened in the park. It was usually a safe place. Usually. Apparently this was an exception.

Suddenly, a bright spec appeared over the horizon, fast approaching. It was my Pit, my Skarmory. He soared in, clutching the figure of Alpha in its talons.

I called out to the medical team that was on stand-by to pick up Alpha and transport him to the nearest hospital. They began to prepare a stretcher for him.

Then, Pit began to descend carefully until he was able to set Alpha directly onto the stretcher. He did so and then landed on the ground, waiting for me to mount him.

I pulled my orange goggles down over my eyes and climbed onto the armored body of my sky steed. Then, I spurred it up and into flight. I always loved flying on my Skarmory. Skarmory are known to fly at speeds close to 200 miles per hour, which made it a blast to fly on.

As the wind whipped through my hair, I wondered what could be happening to the Trainer. Without a Ranger, anything could go wrong.

Back in the Gardens, Ryan was excited. He had just seen one of the most rare Pokemon in the area and had a picture to prove it. He still hadn't found a Durant, but was sure that he would find one eventually. He bent down and pressed the play button on the Pokeplayer for the third time.

Again, the ant Pokemon's cries resounded throughout the area, calling for the steel type to show itself. After some time, there was a rustling in the bushes. However, it wasn't the expected Durant, but a small brown Pokemon that showed itself. It was a Zigzagoon, and it looked up questioningly at the man towering above it.

Ryan wasn’t prepared to encounter a wild Pokémon before his new ranger arrived on the scene. The Skarmory had left him alone and unsure of himself. Ryan was a gym leader, and therefore one of the worlds most powerful trainers, but that didn’t mean that he was fine when left alone in the park. He didn’t have that vast storehouse of knowledge about which Pokémon were found where.

The appearance of the zigzagoon surprised him, because he wasn’t aware they were found in this part of the park, he wasn’t even sure what they were. He may have been good when it came to Pokémon that were commonly used in battle, but Zigzagoon wasn’t, and nor was it evolution.

The main purpose for having one was to find random items after a battle, but Ryan wasn’t aware of this and in any event, he had an Ambipom for that. Ryan figured that he had a chance of either capturing this Pokémon or successfully knocking it out fairly quickly.

Looking at the Pokémon’s cute form, it was most likely a normal type. Ryan figured that the best solution in this situation would be to send forth Meta, his Metagross. Pulling the ball from his left jacket pocket, Ryan out a rather clichéd, “Meta, I choose you.”

The next step was to order his Pokémon to use a move, this Ryan did quite happily, and the sky fell down around the Zigzagoon like a ton of bricks.

Actually, it was a ton of bricks, and some of them, make that almost all of them, were breaking. Ryan just hoped that at least one of the bricks called forth by the move Brick Break had hit the Zigzagoon, though looking at the pile, it would have taken a miracle for the move to have missed.

    ((Gender on Zigzagoon?))

After a short while aboard my Skarmory, the place where the Trainer Ryan had been left without a Ranger became clear. I ordered Pit to slow down and come to a decent in the area. As we began to land, I saw that the Trainer was in the middle of a battle against a wild Pokemon.

From the looks of it, Ryan's Metagross had just launched a Brick Break attack; there were broken pieces of bricks all over the place and the metal Pokemon was smashing them, trying to damage the foe.

While I watched, however, I saw a small, brown Pokemon dart out diagonally from the mess of bricks and lunge to the side of the Metagross. The furry brown Pokemon then launched a strange, colorful beam at the Trainer's Metagross. I couldn't tell what it did, but the metallic Pokemon seemed startled. Something had to have happened. Then, the small wild Pokemon lunged at the Metagross, slamming its head into its metal hide. There was a resounding rind as they came in contact that echoed like a bell being struck.

As my Skarmory touched down to the side of the battle, the brown Pokemon scurried back into the pile of bricks, which was now immobile. There was one thing odd about this, though. The Pokemon ran in a zigzag, going back and forth like it was on a flattened switchback path. Then it clicked. He was fighting a Zigzagoon.

"I'm here!" I called out to the Trainer, catching his attention.

Then, I sat back, leaning against my Skarmory's metal feathers, and watched Ryan handle the battle. I couldn't wait to see what would happen next.

Ryan looked up as someone called out to him, "I'm here."

He'd never seen the person in his life so he assumed they'd have to be the new ranger, especially given the fact that they were leaning on a Skarmory. Now was his opportunity to get out of here, he didn't particularly wan't a zigzagoon and had simply been fighting it because it was easier than running.

"Hey, I assume you're Domonic Stone? you wouldn't happen to have a pokedoll would you?"

Domonic tossed a pokedoll at the zigzagoon leaving it happily playing. Ryan then turned to him and said, "Sorry about that, I got into that fight whilst I was waiting for you, didnt really want to catch it and I didn't want to run either, worried that you'd never find me."

Ryan then realised that what he had said didn't actually make grammatical sense and blushed horribly.

Then he reached down and pressed play on the poképlayer, hopefully he'd encounter a Durant this time.
