    Ranger Makina Auran

    *~~~~~~~~~*

    For once, Makina was early.

This was unintentional. The day had started out normal enough, until the Ranger had been woken up a full hour before her alarm would have gone off. Serena's Pokemon, a Salamence, had given everyone in the house a rude awakening due to chasing about one of Makina's own Pokemon. Once everyone had figured out just what was going on and both culprits had been recalled, the two sisters proceeded to bicker.

Just what was your Skarmory thinking! We're expecting a challenger at the Gym today, and I need to battle him before the Leader.” Serena glared at her younger sister.

Makina turned around to grab her hear, rolling her eyes at her sibling's antics. “First of all, Argent was well within his rights to fight back or run. What, is he supposed to stay still and take a beating just so neither of you break a nail?”

If you used Dragons like a proper Auran, that wouldn't even be a question!” Serena shot back. “Why you decided on other typings and to work for that backwater Park is beyond me...”

Speaking of which, I'm going to be late if you don't get out of the way,” Makina interrupted, heading outside. She was almost tempted to remind her younger sister that she *did* own a Dragon Pokemon, but didn't want to make the argument even longer. Managing to finally leave the house and hailing her Gardevoir partner, who resided outside due to not caring for Serena's abrasive personality, she explained the situation to why they would be leaving early.

<You could have avoided the entire situation by not having Argent out in the first place, you know.> the Gardevoir finally said over the link, shaking her head. <After all, that Salamence always likes to pick a fight.>

And miss out on hearing my dear sister gripe for a solid hour? Now you're just taking crazy, Aria,” Makina drily replied. “Let's just head straight to the Woods front gate to meet with the Trainer we're supposed to be taking today, and deal with the paperwork later. Anything is better than staying here for the moment.”

Aria didn't reply, preparing a Teleport instead. After a few moment's pause, both the Gardevoir and Ranger were whisked away to the front gate.

Gaius awoke, his body stretched out on his makeshift bed of leaves and grass. While he had the money to purchase a sleeping bag, or even an RV if he so desired, he felt that being amongst nature and Pokemon in their natural state was the best way for him to live as a trainer. His mind was still swimming with dreams from the night before, of an approaching dark cloud that sought to kill him. Gaius knew that he did not have time to dwell on foolish dreams, even though he had been bothered by the same type of dream before.

He arose from his makeshift bed, brushed off his black shirt and grey jeans, and checked on his Pokemon. He still had Gengar, Metagross, Tyranitar, Dragonite, and Crobat with him, and was making his way to a new Pokemon park that had opened on a remote island near the Orange Islands. "I hope this park is worth the hype," Gaius mused to himself, "I could use some more Pokemon, and this National Park seems like just the right place to get them."

"Dragonite, I need you to fly me to the National Park. I want to make a proper entrance, not travel on some pathetic boat or airplane." Gaius grabbed Dragonite's Pokeball from his belt, and threw it into the air. The large dragon Pokemon appeared in front of its trainer and looked back, waiting for Gaius to jump on its back.

Gaius readied himself, checked that he had all of his belongings securely in his backpack, and then climbed on Dragonite's back. He wrapped his arms around the flying Pokemon's neck, and waited for Dragonite to ready himself for flight. "When you're ready, take off and fly to the park!" Gaius commanded his Pokemon.

The dragon Pokemon quickly flapped its wings and rose in the air, beginning to take flight. He carefully began to fly at a forty-five degree angle after ascending a few hundred feet, making sure that his trainer stayed safe on his back.

As Dragonite flew, Gaius could look down over vast fields and woods, their untouched green glow seemingly shining up towards him. He then passed over large lakes and rivers, before flying over a deep blue ocean, and Gaius knew that meant that the Orange Islands were close by. All of the habitats Gaius witnessed were teeming with Pokemon, but none that he could see peaked his interest. He specifically wanted to explore the National Park, and he was not going to let any detours get in the way.

Dragonite started to fly downward, so Gaius could get a closer look at the environment around him. In the distance, Gaius could see a string of islands, and commanded his Dragonite to fly in that direction. "That must be the Orange Islands, Dragonite. I've heard the leader of the Orange Crew has a Dragonite as well, just like you. I'd love to see who raised a better dragon-type Pokemon, but unfortunately we don't have time to check out the Orange Islands today, we're on to the National Park."

Dragonite obeyed his trainer, and flied past the Orange Islands, although he turned his head and looked back in longing, hoping that he could return one day with his master and challenge the Orange Crew Leader. The Pokemon then sped up, knowing that his trainer was looking forward to visiting the Park, and catching more Pokemon to add to his growing collection.

After about an hour or so of additional flying, Gaius could see a large island, which no doubt was the National Park. It fit the description listed in the advertisement that he had seen on Poketube, and it certainly did seem to host various sections and areas for catching Pokemon. "Are you excited for me to catch you some new friends, Dragonite?" Gaius asked, smiling as he rode his Pokemon.

"Dragoo, Drag," the Dragonite replied as he began to slow his flight and prepared to come in for a landing. The Pokemon slowed down considerably, and started to circle a hundred feet or so above the island, waiting for an order from his trainer.

"According to the directions, the Front Gate and waiting area is over there. Let's go land and find out where we go from there. Hopefully we can get an idea of what kind of Pokemon we can encounter from our guide. I signed up online for a woodland area. You know we don't have too many bug or grass type friends yet." Gaius gripped on tight to his Pokemon as Dragonite began to dive towards the ground, obeying his trainer's command.

"Dragooo!" Dragonite yelled as he quickly plummeted towards the earth. At the last possible second before colliding with the ground, the Pokemon leveled off. Dragonite gracefully landed in front of the Park entrance, and after Gaius quickly checked his Park supplies, he dismounted the dragon Pokemon.

"You know, stunts like that are going to be the death of us one day," Gaius laughed, patting his Pokemon on the back. "We better make sure we live to the fullest every day in case next time we aren't so lucky."

"Drago.." Dragonite smiled and nodded, playfully rubbing the back of his forehead with his hand, as if to assure his trainer that he would never let him down.

"Dragonite, return!" Gaius reached his belt and pulled off the Pokemon's Pokeball, and pressed the large button on the front, sucking up the large Pokemon inside. "I'd love to use you in the Park, Dragonite," Gaius thought aloud, "but I can only use two Pokemon in there, and I need to think strategically with my choices. You're an excellent example of pure power, but I need Pokemon that can inflict status ailments and slowly weaken my targets, so they're easy to capture. I promise I'll bring you on the next National Park adventure."

Gaius began to walk around the entrance of the park until he saw a small kiosk that doubled as Pokemon Center. "I can leave my Pokemon here that I'm not taking with me into the park, right?" Gaius asked the friendly-looking attendtant, a young girl his age who was clad in pink from head to toe.

"Yes, of course, " the young girl replied, "just let me know which Pokemon you want to use,and I'll store the rest here. You can pick them up as soon as you exit the National Park. Your trainer identification number today is: 66783. Please use this number along with your trainer ID to retrieve your Pokemon when you're done. Do you know which Pokemon you want to use?"

"Yes," Gaius replied, "I already signed my Crobat and Gengar up with me, you can take the other three Pokemon for now." Gaius reached for the Pokeballs on his belt, and handed Metagross, Dragonite, and Tyranitar to the attendant.

"Thank you Gaius, your guide should be with you soon, just wait around the front gate until they arrive. All guides are forwarded a copy of your trainer card, so he, or she, should know what you look like. If you end up waiting for over an hour, please come back here and we can try to contact your guide ourselves. Sometimes they are with another trainer in the park and get sidetracked."

"Thank you very much for your help, miss. I'll explore around here and see if I can find out any more information about what Pokemon I can encounter." Gaius turned and walked away from the kiosk, and began to walk around the front gate. Gaius could see many other trainers in the area, all waiting for their guides, or waiting in line to sign up if they had not done so already. "I sure hope this place is worth what I paid to participate," Gaius muttered to himself, "otherwise corporate heads are going to roll." After about thirty minutes of waiting, Gaius saw a girl teleport nearby. "Hm, she's in official looking clothes, let's hope she's my guide." Gaius mused to himself, awaiting the girl's next move.

    Ranger Makina Auran

OOC: Mentions are not really needed due to being subscribed to this thread. If you have any questions about this Run or any Park mechanics, feel free to ask :D

    *~~~~~~~~~*

While waiting for the general lightheaded feeling that generally accompanied traveling using Teleport to wear off, Makina had the strange feeling that someone else was nearby. After turning around she discovered that, sure enough, there was a Trainer waiting patiently by the entrance to the Woods.
I don't remember hearing about any other Trainers entering this area for today, she said to Aria, speaking silently over their link. While waiting for her partner to reply, the Ranger pulled her PDA and turned the device on, waiting for it to boot up.

<Not unless they added someone at the last minute,> the Gardevoir replied, looking curiously over at the nearby Trainer. <He may be the one we're supposed to take today, I did not look at the picture they had on file.>

I thought you said he wouldn't be arriving for another ten minutes! For confirmation, Makina managed to pull up the Trainer file in question on the PDA. There was no doubt about it; the Trainer picture matched the man to a T. After giving a silent thanks to her sister for forcing them to leave early, she approached the nearby person. “You must be Gaius. I'm Makina, and the Gardevoir here is Aria. Together, we'll be leading you through the Woods today.” Once all introductions were out of the way, the Ranger unlatched the gate to allow everyone to pass through.

Despite the fact that it was just mid-morning, the Woods were already fairly active. There was some noticeable rustling as Pokemon either made themselves scarce by hiding further into the zone or prepared for a prospective battle. Some, on the other hand, seemed unfazed.

Not even twenty feet away, a Pokemon was attempting to reach its breakfast. A small group of apple trees lay near the entrance, and it was here that a midsized pink creature was trying its best to snatch one of the ripe fruits. Despite its extraordinary long tongue, it still fell short from reach.

Looks like an Lickitung,” Makina remarked. “They're fairly uncommon, and solid battlers as well. Were you looking for one?”

As the girl approached Gaius, he had a feeling that she was the person he was looking for. Before she was within speaking distance, he quickly made sure both of his remaining Pokeballs were fastened onto his belt, and checked his bag to ensure that the items he needed for the National Park run were still there. "Here goes nothing," Gaius thought, "I sure hope this whole Park thing wasn't a waste of money. I'd hate to go in there and find only weak and mediocre Pokemon. No harm in trying it once, though, I guess."

While Gaius was contemplating his expenditure, the Ranger finished walking up to him and introduced herself and a Gardevoir that was her companion.

"Hello Makina, Aria," Gaius replied, "So you're going to be my expedition guides, huh? I sure hope you two are experienced at the job, otherwise this will not be fun for me at all." Gaius playfully laughed, and then continued speaking. "I've only been a trainer for less than a month, but I've already assembled a wide array of powerful Pokemon, and overall hope to add many new powerhouses to my collection with this trip. Although I know I can only catch three Pokemon, I'll make sure they are ones that are worth the effort, not any pathetic weaklings like Pidgey." Gaius paused, awaiting her response. When none came, he followed Makina and Aria as they entered the Woods Area.

When Gaius walked into the Woods Area, he could see indications of many Pokemon, most of which running away and hiding for cover. "Good," Gaius thought, "Anything that is too weak to desire a challenge is not worth my time or effort to capture and train it. They must sense my power, and know that my Pokemon would swiftly defeat all of them if given the chance." After a few minutes of walking, Gaius saw a wild Lickitung that was trying to retrieve fruit with its tongue.

Makina then asked Gaius if he was interested in Lickitung. The answer to which took some time to decide.

Gaius stopped for a minute to think and consider his options. "Hm..Lickitung is a basic Pokemon, and its stats are not exemplary. However, it does evolve into a Lickylicky, a large, bloated normal type Pokemon. I would have to teach it Rollout to make it evolve, but that shouldn't be too hard to do. Overall, since I don't have a basic Pokemon, it would be a good investment for the moment. If I decide that it does not mesh well with my team, I can always just trade it to some other trainer or sell it to a Pokemart. With that being said, however, it would be unfortunate if I used up my Park Balls early on and then find an incredibly rare or powerful basic Pokemon later and am unable to catch it. It's better to be assured a potentially good Pokemon now, then to potentially end up with only poor basics later on. I guess I'll catch it. With his mind made up, Gaius turned to face the Lickitung. "Hey, Lickitung, I hope you're ready to battle, because you're gonna be mine!"

Gaius reached down on his belt and grabbed Gengar's Pokeball. "Despite Gengar being ghost, and normally not being able to hit normal types, I've taught my Gengar a wide variety of moves, so he can excel at nearly any confrontation, regardless of type," Gaius explained to Makina. He then pulled Gengar's Pokeball off of his belt, and threw it into the air. "Go Pestilence! Come forth and use Focus Blast on that Lickitung. Keep circling it until you get close enough to deliver a point-blank attack. Phase through the trees if need be to avoid any attack Lickitung may use!" Gaius issued the order to his Pokemon, and waited to see how his Pokemon performed.

    BP #1

Aleria loved her job. She really did. Honestly. If you asked her how much she enjoyed rangering, she could go on and on and on and on about all the things she'd experienced, all the Pokemon she'd seen, everything. Ask her how much she liked taking over runs for other rangers, and it took about every ounce of dignity and respect for her fellow rangers in Aleria to not go off on a total rant full of swear words; it would be a rant not suitable for small children.

Nevertheless, here she was, walking into the Woods to meet up with a trainer to replace a ranger. What was it with these rangers anyways? This was the second run Aleria had to take over for someone. Anymore, and she'd wonder why they even took the job in the first place. She shook her head, stray strands of her red hair from the messy bun she had her hair tied up in today covering her face. Al brushed them away with her hand. Whatever. It was their prerogative, their loss. More money for her.

She didn't have to walk very far into the Woods to see her trainer. He'd already met a Lickitung, which was as far as he'd gotten before his ranger had to abandon ship. The remainder of the information on him, which Aleria had been too sleepy to read about or care about at the time she'd skimmed the email that awoke her from her blissful slumber, was unknown. Well, kind of. She knew he had a Gengar named Pestilence, which she'd walked in right as he was giving his speech about how the Ghost type knew a variety of moves. Al yawned, partially from her sleepiness, but partially out of boredom. This guy was going to talk her right back to sleep.

"Hi," she said after yawning. "I'm Aleria. Your ranger had to run, so I'm taking over. Forgive my sleepiness and appearance, I got a rude awakening this morning." And it was true. Her hair had been thrown up into a messy bun just to keep it out of her face, and that was already falling apart, not that it was that big of a deal. Her outfit was a pair of black flip-flops, some grey sweatpants that covered a pair of dark red booty shorts that Al refused to wear out of the house on their own (not to mention, the sweatpants were a little big on her to begin with), and a dark red sweatshirt. Her rangering satchel was with her too, full of the supplies and Poke Balls she'd need to get them through this run.

So Lickitung. Fat pink thing. A Normal type that would take a hard hit from the Fighting typed Focus Blast that Gengar had just launched. Lickitung curled up into a pink ball in an attempt to defend itself from the blast. It helped a little. The force of the blast had knocked Lickitung out of its ball, and the fat pink thing rolled until it collided with a tree, shaking a few apples out of it with the force of the attack. Lickitung shook its head and jumped right back up. A small bolt of lightning struck down on where the Gengar was, and the Ghost let out a cry; target hit. In addition to hitting its target, the Lickitung also managed to successfully knock some leaves out of place, which were also kind of burnt to crisps, and a vine had been knocked down. Said vine was still attached to the tree, but it was hanging down now.

    @Felly;

After Gaius launched his attack on the Lickatung, he turned around to see Makina, however she was nowhere to be seen. He did, however, see someone approaching him. The newcomer looked slightly disheveled and unkept, as if they had needed to get ready on short notice. After a moment of looking her up and down, before she began to speak, Gaius surmised that this was his new ranger, and that Makina had left for one reason or another.

"So, Makina bailed, huh?" Gaius asked, the young trainer wondering what could have been important that she left her job midway through the day. "Did she leave the kettle on, or was she too impressed by my opening attack that she couldn't handle seeing the rest?" Frankly, Gaius despised people who failed to finish what they started, and viewed the occurance as an individual weakness. "No matter, I'm sure your skills are equally as failing as hers. Most humans don't have what it takes to impress me anymore, that's one of the reasons why I'm a Pokemon trainer."

Unimpressed by Aleria, Gaius turned back towards the battle. "Who I have following me is meaningless," Gaius thought, "the only thing I need is to capture rare Pokemon. Plus, with my skills, I know I can easily defeat any Pokemon I come across."

Gaius could see Gengar deliver a devestating Focus Punch onto Lickitung, and even though the Pokemon had used a defensive move, he knew it was in immense pain. However, Gaius was unprepared for what happened next. The obese normal type Pokemon counter-attacked with an electric attack, damaging his Gengar. Originally, Gaius expected that this would be an easy encounter, given Gengar's immunity from normal-type attacks. Now, he knew that definately was not the case, and quickly had to think of a countermeasure.

"Pestilance, the Lickitung seems to know some TM moves, stay on guard and focus on its movements, so you can try to predict its next attack type!" Gaius thought for a moment, trying to decide the best course of action. "Try to sneak up behind it and use Focus Punch. You did good with your last attack, but this one should pack an even bigger punch. I know you can do it, Pestilance. Just a few more attacks and we'll have this Pokemon in the bag!"

Gaius patiently waited for his Gengar to strike its target, so he could formulate a plan for his next attack.

((Still need a gender on Lickitung.))

    BP #2

There were two times you didn't want to mess with Aleria. The first would be if she's already ticked off. Tick her off more, she's bound to get even more pissed off, and that's never good. The second would be after she's just woken up. Especially if the cause of waking up was because someone was calling her to replace them on a run. Well, really, just bringing her out of her slumber was a general bad idea. Emergencies were one thing. Just plain waking her up for no apparent reason was stupid, and it made her mad.

She'd been here for all of maybe five minutes, and she'd learned two things. One, the previous ranger's name was Makina. Al had heard about her from her friend, the one that ran Saffron, and she had nothing but good things to say about her. Whatever the reason was that made Makina leave, Al wasn't going to hold it against her. She barely knew any of her fellow rangers anyways. She probably needed to get on that. The second thing Aleria had learned was that this guy, whatever his stupid name was, was going to piss her off. If his face wasn't ankle deep in the ground by the end of this run, the Pokemon Gods would be shining down on Aleria today. She'd probably lose her job in the process if she did that, so hopefully they were shining down on her, because dear Arceus, she was gonna need it.

She bit her tongue when it came to speaking to him. If she didn't value her job as much as she did, she would have done ditched him already. Or put his face ankle deep in the ground. Whichever happened first.

But what happened next made Aleria bite her tongue again. Not to keep herself from making a snide comment to her trainer, but to keep herself from peeing her pants from laughter. Either this guy's cockiness was a facade, or he was really freakin' stupid because his Gengar had the most priceless look of confusion on his face. Lickitung followed the ghost with its eyes, but when the Gengar stopped from confusion of not knowing what exactly to do, Lickitung stopped too, cocking its pink head. "Lickitung?"

"I don't think your Gengar knows Focus Punch. If you're gonna put up a cocky front, you should at least tell your Pokemon to use the moves it knows first," Aleria said bluntly.

OOC: Damn late night run post!!! xD (and male btw, was unsure when I got to choose).

IC: "Oh, crap," Gaius replied, stunned by his mistake. "Pestilence, I meant Focus Blast, you should be able to know what you can do buddy. Gaius refused to let his guard down. He was not going to let this little girl see him for anything but the greatness he was. It was characteristically unlike him to ever make a mistake such as this. He quickly pondered how he could make such a mistake, especially in front of another individual. He had to recover from such a foolish error, otherwise the wild Pokemon would get the upper hand and be able to overwhelm him.

Gaius turned to his ranger, thoroughly displeased by her statement. "You should know, that even those who are above most individuals can still make mistakes, lest they would be gods. The real trick of this error is to turn it around and pummel that Pokemon into submission. Furthermore, my Gengar should have known what I meant. If he had a strong connection with me, he would have been able to know what I wanted him to do, without the need for useless words. You should not snicker at your betters foolish girl, for one day that could be your undoing. Sit back and watch. You will witness true power in action, the likes of which you have never seen before!"

Gaius wished he could go back in time and erase the foolish mistake from moments earlier, but unfortunately time travel was one thing he could not do...yet. "Pestilence, use Focus Blast on that creature. Use the trees and shadows to hide until you can attack at point black range. This time, obey my command!" Gaius screamed as he uttered the last word. He would never allow one of his Pokemon to make such a mistake ever again, and would ensure that Aleria never saw him falter for as long as she lived.

OOC: Sorry my character is such an asshole, nothing personal xD

((Nah, it's all good~ IC actions are totally different than OOC actions. Besides, I get to have a little fun with Aleria, so I'm happy. xD WOOOO CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.))

Aleria wanted to laugh. Clutch her sides laughing. Rolling on the floor laughing. Laughing her ass off. Laugh out loud. She was sure there was a variety of other fancy internet terms for laughter that she couldn't think of right now. Well, clutch her sides laughing wasn't really one, but it could work. And technically, she'd be rolling on the ground, but close enough. The point was she wanted to laugh.

Except she had to resist. The terrible, terrible voice in the back of her mind told her not to do it. Smart voice it was. It appealed to Aleria's love for her job. 'You could get reported to the Head Ranger,' the terrible little voice said, and that was all Aleria Cornish needed to hear to keep herself from doing what she wanted to do most right now: laugh. Hysterically.

Still, as much as she wanted to comment on her trainer's little speech, she kept her mouth shut. For now. If he was going to act like this the whole run, however, Al was going to put this guy in his place. She'd rip him a new one. That was a moment she was looking forward to. Hopefully her run wouldn't last that long though. If it did, she was screwed because the little voice wouldn't be able to appeal to the love of her job. She'd just go right out and rip her trainer a new one. If not, maybe next time. So she did the only thing she could do right now: shove her hands in the pockets of her sweatpants and watch the battle.

Gengar had launched another Focus Blast, but Lickitung seemed to have a plan formulating in his head. That vine that it had knocked down earlier? He was running towards that. He curled up in a ball and rolled towards it. The Focus Blast slowed him down a little bit, but his roll was actually a Defense Curl, and that turned into him running again. Lickitung ripped the vine from its tree, and it took on a green glow as soon as it touched Lickitung's pink hand. Aleria recognized the move as Power Whip. Smart pink thing, attacking from a distance. Even smarter pink thing to use a move that wasn't of the Normal or Fighting types. Maybe it would accidentally use one later, Aleria didn't know. For now, however, it was playing smart, and that whip struck Gengar's face hard. Aleria bit her bottom lip. The urge to laugh was returning. Two strong strikes to the face, the Gengar received.

Clearly there was a human and a Pokemon that disliked the trainer today, and Gengar wasn't the Pokemon. Aleria concluded that this was going to be an interesting run.

    OOC: Sorry for short post, forgot I had college homework that's due tomorrow xD @Felly;

"Great," Gaius thought, "that thing's smart. That will be even better for me when I capture it." Gaius quickly looked around the area and saw nothing new that he could use to his advantage. There were the trees, of course, perhaps Gengar could launch an attack from inside one of the trees. A bold plan, and, if the Lickiting happened to damage a tree, that wouldn't be Gaius's fault, now would it? He quickly thought of the Park, which said trainers were not allowed to damage Park habitats. However, wild Pokemon were allowed to damage Park land if they happened to though the course of life.

"Gengar, hide in a tree close to the Lickitung and use Focus Blast. The tree should shield you from most attacks, and Lickitung may not even be able to figure out where you are." Gaius commanded his Pokemon and awaited for him to follow the order.

"Well, Pokemon aren't totally stupid," Aleria mumbled. This trainer, on the other hand, was quite boring. Using the same move repeatedly bored Al, and she yawned as result, but that was also partly due to her sleepiness. Sooner or later, however, the Lickitung would pick up on Focus Blast and start avoiding it.

Speaking of Lickitung, he launched his whip at the Gengar as he went into a tree. It wrapped around the Ghost type, and the pink thing brought the ghost back to the ground, making dust rise up. Focus Blast managed to launch, but it wasn't nearly as powerful as it should have been. Lickitung was getting used to the attack now. It was only a matter of time before he'd be able to start dodging it with ease.

Gaius thought for a moment, trying to decide what he should do. "Well, I could just keep using the same attack, as it seems to be very effective, since it's fighting type. Or perhaps I could try to switch up Gengar's move and then surprise Lickitung with the different attack." Gaius quickly examined Gengar and could tell that it was starting to weaken from the normal Pokemon's onslaught. Then, it dawned on Gaius exactly what he needed to do. He glanced upward at the battle and issued his command.

"Pestilence, try to hide in the treetops and use Giga Drain. After you heal up a bit, then try Hypnosis to put the Lickitung to sleep. If it falls asleep, we can use that to our advantage and make the capture go a thousand times easier. Just make sure each move hits its mark and you'll be making this so much easier for me."

Gaius knew that the strategy wasn't exactly original, however, he hoped that it would be the exact combo he needed to succeed. He watched his Pokemon contemplate the series of commands, and Gaius hoped the Pokemon understood them correctly.

Aleria was grateful for two things. One was that she was grateful that Gaius didn't hear what she'd mumbled just now or even asked about it. The second was that he was finally changing up his strategy. Good. Constantly using Focus Blast was boring. Really, really boring. Al probably would have commented if he'd tried it again.

Instead, he had a new plan of action, and it was one that definitely threw Lickitung off. The large pink thing tried to use Power Whip on Gengar again, but it missed. Gengar was too quick for the slower pink Pokemon. The Ghost type was already in the treetops by the time Lickitung was looking around for his target. Unaware of Gengar's position, Lickitung found himself looking around until he spotted some rustling in the treetops. A Thunderbolt knocked Gengar out of the trees after the failed Power Whip, but it was too late.

Lickitung was drowsy now. He felt his eyelids drooping, and he fell to his knees. Slowly, but surely, he curled up into a ball and fell asleep. Aleria frowned, noting what had just happened. "I don't think your Gengar used Giga Drain. Looks like it used Hypnosis though. You might wanna make sure you're telling your Pokemon to use moves it actually knows."

OOC: Now I have to remember that the moves aren't fully updated xD

    IC:

Gaius cursed under his breath. "Damn it, I messed up again," he muttered to himself. Gaius had bought the TM to teach Gengar Giga Drain, but forgot actually teach the move to Gengar before he entered the Park. "Yeah, next time I'll remember to teach my Pokemon TM's before I enter an area. I have the TM in my normal bag, that I left at the reception desk. Unfortunately it doesn't do too much good there, with Pestilence being hurt and all. However, there is always the fallback healing option that all Gengar know." Gaius paused for a moment, looking at his Gengar where it fell out of the tree, trying to make sure he planned the move perfectly. He had to make sure Lickitung stayed asleep long enough for Dream Eater to take affect, so he did not have long to plot out the moves execution.

"Pestilence, position yourself behind the sleeping Lickitung try to blend into a tree trunk. Then, quickly launch a Dream Eater attack while it's still asleep. I know you can do it, Pestilence. You just need to pull off this move, and then you should be feeling alot better. Also, if possible, try to drain only enough energy so I can capture it, don't try to knock it out completely. It's no good to us if it cannot be caught."

One Pokemon in, and Aleria had already watched the cockiness fade from her trainer. Mission accomplished. Definitely accomplished. She was proud of herself. Her trainer wouldn't need to know that, but the fact that she knew made it all the better. And he was actually playing it smart now too! Putting the Lickitung to sleep would be useful in the capture, and healing his Gengar was even more useful. Aleria had made a mental note that her trainer only had two Pokemon with him: a Gengar, which he was currently using and apparently nicknamed Pestilence, and a Crobat without a nickname. She'd memorized that much on her way here. It was actually the only thing she really cared about in the message she'd received when taking over the run.

Nevertheless, Gengar positioned itself in the trees, unbeknownst to the sleeping Lickitung. A purple glow surrounded Gengar, and it surrounded Lickitung as well, before moving towards the Gengar. The energy he had sapped from Lickitung made Gengar's glow stronger until it eventually faded away. And the whole time, Lickitung just slept, rolling over onto his back.

Gaius could tell that Lickitung was weak from Pesilence's Dream Eater, and he decided to quickly move in for the capture. "Pestilence, that's enough for now. You did good, buddy!" Gaius's Gengar retreated back away from the sleeping Pokemon and stood in front of his trainer. After a moment, Gaius reached into his pocket, and pulled out a Park Ball.

"Well, now is as good a time as any," Gaius thought, "I've weakened it a ton, and it's asleep, this should definitely increase my chances of catching it." Gaius studied the unusual Pokeball in his hand for a few moments, and then readied his aim towards the sleeping Pokemon. "This should be a walk in the park," Gaius mused, "might as well catch it now and see what we come across next.

Gaius hurled the Park Ball at Lickitung, and watched as the normal type Pokemon got sucked inside. Gaius watched as the ball continued to twitch for several seconds, hoping that the capture would succeed

Buddy. Now that was a word Aleria didn't think she'd hear her trainer say ever. Maybe he was softening up now that he'd made some mistakes here in the park. Aleria couldn't be sure, but it was nice to see that he wasn't being super cocky like he had been. Nevertheless, her trainer was ready to catch that Lickitung now. Park Ball thrown and contact hit; it wasn't like Lickitung could object anyways. He was out cold. Sleeping even.

One shake. Two shakes. Three shakes. Aleria was hoping to Arceus that this Lickitung would stay in the ball. She and her trainer had gotten off to a bad start, and while part of Aleria hoped it would get better, she still wanted to get this run over with, go back home, and sleep. Forget about this run with this cocky trainer.

Click. Aleria wanted to frown, but she couldn't. Not now.

"Nice job," Aleria said. She walked up to the ball and picked it up, putting it into her bag as she straightened herself up. "I dunno if you're aware or not, but rangers hold onto the Pokemon you catch until the end of the run." Aleria nodded. "So you ready to go on or do you wanna rest for a few minutes?"

"Nice," Gaius exclaimed, excited about the capture of a new Pokemon. "I'm sure glad that went well as well as it did." Gaius turned to his Pokemon, who was slightly worn out from the encounter. "C'mon Pestilence, you did good. I knew some encouragement was all you needed to win the battle."

Gengar turned to his trainer, and the ghost Pokemon smiled, his teeth covering roughly twenty-five percent of its body. The Pokemon was glad that Gaius was finally complimenting him on a job well done, and the Pokemon hoped that this trend would continue.

Gaius looked again towards his Pokemon, raising the Pokemon's Pokeball. The trainer now had a more dark and sinister look in his eyes. "I would hope my faux encouragement would prevent you from making such a misstep again. Lest I may replace you with a more powerful Pokemon that can actually follow proper instructions. I will not tolerate such failure any more times today. While you performed admirably in the battle when you attacked, you also hit several snags. See that does not happen again, is that understood?"

Gengar's smile faded from his face, as he frowned and looked towards the ground. Gengar knew that the mistakes were not his, although, he knew not to question his master.

"I'll release you from your ball when I once again have use for your bumbling talents, until then, Pestilence return." Gaius hit the button on Gengar's black Pokeball, causing a red beam of light to shoot out and retrieve the Pokemon.

Just then, Gaius became aware of what Aleria was saying. Gaius contemplated her words before he spoke.

"Hm,"Gaius thought aloud, "we could rest for a bit before we go looking for another Pokemon. I'm a bit worn-out from that long battle. How about we find a nice place to rest for a minute and just chill out. I already have one Pokemon in the bag, so I could pace myself before I decide on my other two." Gaius walked a few feet and sat down at the base of the tree that Lickitung was so interested in moments ago. "This place seems as good as any." Gaius stretched his legs out and rested his head against the rough bark. Normally, Gaius wouldn't want to rest after a battle, but he wanted to make sure his mind was clear of any distractions. Gaius thought for a moment. 'I need to chill for a bit to make sure I don't make any errors again. If I would have kept messing up, that might have cost me the capture, meaning that all of my hard work would have been for nothing.' After closing his eyes for a few minutes, Gaius thought of a sure-fire way to get a quick nap.

Gaius reached down on his belt and grabbed Gengar's Pokeball. "Pestilence, come forth. I am in need of your power." He threw the ghost Pokemon's Pokeball onto the ground, and Pestilence sprang forth in a glow of white light.

Gengar immediately looked around, trying to find the Pokemon that he needed to attack. Finding none, he looked at his trainer and awaited a command.

"Pestilence, use your Hypnosis attack on me. Make it a light attack, just enough to put me asleep for ten or twenty minutes. We're taking a short rest break before we hunt down another Pokemon for our collection. If it is possible, try using Dream Eater attack on me while I sleep. I want to be fully rested and restored, and if you can eliminate distractions such as dreams, all the better."

Gengar looked puzzled. Gaius had never told him to use an attack on him before, but, Gengar knew to always follow his master's orders. The Pokemon put its hands together, and black circles began to fly from its hands towards Gaius's head. Within a minute, the trainer was completely asleep, and Gengar began to carry out his next order. Gengar's eyes turned bright red, and a transparent copy of Gengar seemed to appear in front of the ghost Pokemon. Within a few seconds, the copy flew through Gaius and the tree that the trainer was sleeping against. Gengar smiled, his job complete. He then sat next to his trainer, and closed his eyes, trying to sleep as well.

After a little over twenty minutes, Gaius opened his eyes. He felt refreshed and perfectly awake. The trainer looked to his right and saw his Gengar, who was sleeping next to him."Pestilence, time to awaken. We're now going to track down another Pokemon."

The ghost Pokemon opened his eyes, and stood up, waiting for his next order.

Gaius then turned to Aleria, waiting to see what her suggestion was. "Where else in these woods can you find rare Pokemon?" He was eager to continue the expedition and knew he could find powerful Pokemon if he looked hard enough. "I'm hoping I can find something strong and powerful. Do you have any idea where such Pokemon are?" He asked, and then he continued, not waiting for an answer, "or, if you are too inexperienced to possess such knowledge, will I have to start looking myself with you in tow?"

The lack of cockiness was short lived. Really short lived. Though his faux praise had caught Aleria's eye, as soon as the battle was over, he was back to disciplining his Pokemon, blaming his own mistakes on his Gengar. Aleria bit her tongue. As much as she wanted to say something to him, as much as she wanted to lash out at him for the way he was treating his Pokemon, she couldn't. She just couldn't.

"Okay, fine by me," she said. Taking a seat under a tree across from her trainer, Aleria set her bag down next to her and pulled out her PDA. Now would be as good of a time as any to review information that had been sent to her about this trainer. While he napped, she could sit here and review the information. A name could finally go with the face. Gaius vi Britannia. Sounded like he wanted to be like that Lelouch guy from Code Geass, an anime Aleria thought was kind of interesting. Gaius would do. He only had his Gengar and a Crobat with him, and his Gengar was already kind of weakened from that battle with the Lickitung. All he had with him were balls though. That wouldn't fare well in the long run. If both of his Pokemon fainted, he was screwed. The run would end. Then again, it was his first time in the park. All first timers make mistakes. Aleria had done so, and her good friend who ran Saffron's gym did too.

Twenty minutes later, Gaius was up and ready to go. Aleria stood up and brushed herself and her bag off, putting her PDA back in it. She had all of the information she needed now, and it made a great deal of difference. She had a name to go with the face, and she knew a lot more now than she did before that first battle, before she'd taken over for Makina.

Makina was a very lucky person today.

"Just follow," she said, starting to walk and ignoring his comment about her experience. He was one to talk about experience. "You'll mostly see Bugs and Normal types here in The Woods. Poison and Flying types too. It's been a while since I've last been in The Woods, but the farther you go in, the better Pokemon you'll see, usually. It all depends, really." Al shrugged. The park was a nice place to find a variety of Pokemon. She was starting to enjoy coming here more and more. Maybe she'd go on a run of her own sooner or later, when she got some free time, of course.

Aleria suddenly stopped, letting out a yelp of surprise when a cream colored monkey with brown hands and feet swung down and landed in front of her. "Mankey, mankey!" the monkey said.

"Is a Mankey rare, strong, or powerful?" Aleria asked. "If you don't want it, we can try running from it or you can buy a Poke Doll for 500 PokeDollars."

Gaius quickly closed his eyes, trying to remember all that he had looked up and read about Pokemon. 'Mankey, that evolves into Primeape. Although he's not extremely powerful or useful, he is a fighting-type Pokemon, and I don't have any of those, yet. Primeape's best move is Close Combat, or Seismic Toss. Those can both come in handy in Pokemon battles'. After he finished thinking, Gaius opened his eyes, and reached down into his pocket, readying a Pokeball.

"Pestilence, you're still hurt from your last battle, so I don't want to use you until I absolutely have to. That means...I choose you, Crobat!" Gaius threw Crobat's Pokeball high into the air, and the purple bat Pokemon emerged from it, quickly flapping its wings to gain altitude. Gaius had not had a chance to use Crobat since he won it during his battle with Team Rocket, (ooc: slight spoiler) but he hoped it performed as well as Crobat usually do in battle.

Gaius thought for a moment, trying to decide what attack to use. He knew Crobat was part Poison and part flying, and he also remembered that fighting type Pokemon are weak against flying attacks. "Crobat, fly high in the sky and attack with Acrobatics!"

Gaius watched as his Pokemon prepared to follow his orders.
