Gaius was the exact opposite of James. Literally the exact opposite. Two encounters in, and he was already ready to catch a second Pokemon: the Mankey that had scared the shit out of Aleria. This was probably going to be a very fast run. Very fast. He could only take three Pokemon out with him, and he was going to have two of those three at the end of this battle.

He was giving his Gengar a break, and it was well deserved after he just yelled at the poor ghost for his own mistakes. Crobat was a good choice though. The battle would be quick. Flying types had an advantage over Fighting types. Acrobatics was the first move of choice. Crobat flew up into the air, doing a series of twists and turns as he did so. Mankey grinned. He stood there with his arms wide open, waiting for the attack to hit him. So when Crobat crashed into Mankey, the monkey did indeed take a fair bit of damage, but his little brown hands were on that purple bat. A series of punches and kicks were unleashed on the bat before the monkey threw his opponent off to the other side. Revenge was a useful move, and after that Acrobatics, it had to have done a fair bit of damage.

Gaius was surprised at how well Crobat's Acrobatics attack worked. Normally it took a while for a Pokemon to obey its master when it was first used, however, Crobat seemed to respond perfectly right away. Even though Acrobatics was a success, Mankey's attack did more damage than Gaius would have hoped. 'With just one attack, my Crobat has lost over a third of his health. I better find a way to wrap this up, and quick!' Gaius continued to think for a moment, as he tried to plan his next move.

'Perhaps I can try to disable it first, and then my Crobat can attack again.' "Let's go, Crobat. Use Confuse ray on the Mankey to render it helpless, and then follow up with another Acrobatics attack" Gaius hoped that his Pokemon would be able to follow through with his complicated command, and also hoped that he could get away with using the same move in a row on the fighting Pokemon.

At least he wasn't talking now. Except to give his Pokemon commands. That was nice. Aleria was glad that he was doing that now. As long as he kept his trap shut except to give his Pokemon commands, he wasn't that bad. Which was good.

His Crobat looked a little confused at the pair of commands he had been given, but the commands seemed to click in the purple bat's head because his eyes flashed for a moment before a purple ball of light started floating towards the monkey, whose fist was glowing yellow. He followed it with curious brown eyes until it suddenly disappeared. Mankey found himself looking for it, and while he did, his fist stopped glowing yellow. Looks like Focus Punch would be a no go right now. Instead, he went face first into the grass and mud when Crobat slammed into him again. The monkey sat up and shook himself off, sending some of the mud flying, and frowned. This wasn't going well for him.

Gaius was glad that his second attack was just as successful as the first. However, he noticed Crobat hesitated for a few seconds before he performed Confuse Ray. 'Hm..maybe I should just keep it to basic commands, I don't want him to mess up if he can't handle anything complex.' Gaius figured he would vary his attacks, and decided on a new command

"Crobat, use Wing Attack on that Mankey. It's really simple, so you shouldn't have any trouble." Gaius smiled, he was sure this attack was going to be devastating to the fighting type Pokemon.

OOC: Since I'm almost double, I'm probably just going to do shorter posts until Mankey is captured. I hope this is ok.

Maybe Gaius was learning. Maybe he was learning that being a harsh, cocky trainer wasn't the right way to go, especially in the park. He'd already embarrassed himself once, and now he was clearly doing better after his nap. Much better, even. He was still a tad cocky, as evidenced by when he questioned Aleria's experience, but it was nice to know that he was learning.

    Hopefully anyways.

The battle continued though, and Mankey fixated his brown eyes on the Crobat. It was a bit of a struggle, but he managed to do so. His fist started glowing yellow again, and Aleria could clearly see he was trying another Focus Punch. The first one had failed, and clearly the monkey's small brain thought that the second wouldn't.

However, his focus allowed him to dodge Crobat's attack, but just barely. The monkey's cream colored fur moved as the breeze from the failed Wing Attack struck him. But when one Focus Punch fails, the second one does too, and Mankey received a face full of brown fist. He hit himself in confusion!

"Damn, Crobat, why did you miss!?" Gaius yelled to his Pokemon. "You got incredibly lucky that round, if Mankey had not hit itself, you would have taken damage. Keep on your guard and stay focused. You can't afford to take too much damage if I want to turn this into a longer trip." Gaius put his head in his palm, and wondered how his Pokemon could be so inept at their attacks, especially considering how Crobat had fared earlier in the battle. "C'mon Crobat, make sure this next attack hits, or you'll be the one who's knocked out!" Gaius quickly tried to decide what move would be best, until he decided to go back to using the attack that had worked so well previously. "Crobat, use Acrobatics once more. You should be able to do a lot of damage, just like before."

Gaius then turned towards Aleria, this time directing his comments to her. "You know, Primeape, Mankey's evolved form, is a pretty good fighting type Pokemon. I'm actually pretty glad I ran into one." The trainer then sneered for a moment, and then continued to speak. "Maybe you're not so useless after all. I'm glad you actually have some form of head on your shoulders. Although, the extent of your intelligence, or possible lack thereof, is still up for debate."

Gaius then turned his head back towards his Crobat, waiting to watch how his Pokemon performed.

Okay, now Aleria was just living in her own made up fantasy because there was Gaius, opening his big fat mouth again. And the arse actually had the gall to speak to her in the manner he did. He was so unbelievably lucky that Al loved her job because if she didn't, his head would be in the mud, and one of her Pokemon would be helping her out. But all would be well, for now, at least until this guy had the gall to put his hands on her. The moment that happened, her job could go right out the window for all she cared.

"Yes, well, I'm mostly just a guide," she replied simply, resisting the urge to continue on and bring up how he'd told his Gengar to use moves he didn't actually know and how it had been blamed on the Pokemon. Because that would go over so well.

Just as well as Mankey trying to attack the Crobat, which wasn't going so well at all. As a matter of fact, it was going so well that the monkey was picking up seeds that had fallen from the trees over time and throwing them at the bat. Poor thing was so confused, it was missing for the most part. As a matter of fact, the only time Seed Bomb hit was right before Crobat struck again. Then Mankey basically fell over. And laid there. On the ground. He wasn't unconscious, but he was pretty weak now, and his confusion wasn't helping at all.

Gaius looked at the fighting type Pokemon after Crobat landed its attack. The monkey Pokemon was laying down on its back, not moving an inch. 'Wow,' Gaius thought, 'I guess I should capture it now before I do too much damage. I wouldn't want it to get too hurt'. Gaius looked up at his flying Pokemon, and issued a command.

"Crobat, hang back. I'm going in for the capture, and I don't need you to get in the way. By the way, you weren't too bad, maybe I'll use you more often after we get back to Kanto. Just be sure to keep misses like before to a minimum, at least, if you know what's good for you." Gaius reached down, and prepared a Park Ball. "This should be the easiest capture I've ever made. That little Pokemon is just laying there, it can't even move at all." Gaius laughed, and readied his throw. "I hope you prove to be a better battler under my command than you were in this battle. If I hadn't already put so much effort into capturing you, I would have just left you injured and confused." Gaius then threw the Park Ball at the Mankey, and watched it get sucked inside.

And it was capture time. Which means now Aleria would be one more Pokemon away from getting out of here. Hopefully. Maybe. She wasn't sure. For all she knew, Gaius might want to go sightseeing after he was done. He didn't even have a camera, so that would be pointless, but to each their own.

He threw the Park Ball after telling his Crobat to stand down. The ball hit the Mankey, who was just starting to sit up, and it landed on the ground again. One shake, two shakes, three shakes, click! Aleria wanted to sing a song in her head now, but she resisted the urge. It would be stuck in her head until she went back home and got a new one stuck in there, and she was quite happy with having Lady Gaga's Applause stuck in her head for the moment. Damn catchy songs. She picked the Park Ball up and deposited it into her bag. "Right, so you wanna go ahead and keep moving or do you want to take another break?"

Gaius looked at the Pokeball as it shook. When the ball clicked, Gaius yelled "Yes!" The trainer then held up Crobat's Pokeball, and prepared to recall his Pokemon. "You actually weren't useless Crobat, that's a relief. I'll see if I can switch back to Gengar for the next battle." Gaius then pressed the button on the Pokeball, and watched his Crobat got sucked inside. Although his second battle was a success, Gaius could tell his Pokemon were beginning to weaken. He had to plan the rest of his encounters strategically if he wanted his Pokemon to last.

He then attached the Pokeball back to his belt, and his mind reminisced over his first trip through the park so far. 'I've caught Lickitung, and now have a Mankey. I'm only allowed to catch three Pokemon, so I should make sure the next one counts. Although I could just keep going after I get my third. If something extremely exceptinals appears, I can just release one of the ones I have already have, and just capture the new Pokemon. Hmm..that sounds like a good option just in case.'

Upon hearing Aleria, Gaius turned to face her. "Might as well keep moving. I'm not that tired out at all, and if I use Gengar in my next battle, it should be slightly more rested as well." He then chuckled and spoke again. "You know, you should be honored to see such a skillful trainer in action. It's not everyday I allow others to watch my battles, or Pokemon captures. You should keep that in mind, in case you decide to make another snide comment, like you did during my first battle." Gaius then glanced away from Aleria, waiting for her to lead him to another Pokemon.

"Right," she said, zoning out the remainder of Gaius' comments about how he was a great trainer and all. She heard what she needed to hear. He wanted to go on, and that was all she needed to know. Pretty sure she was required to watch the Pokemon battles here in the park, or at least look like she was watching.

Still, they were continuing on, and Aleria had to lead the way. They walked in the woods until they encountered a purple monkey using its tails, which had hands on them, to hang from a tree, blocking their path. Ambipom was a pretty cool Pokemon in Aleria's opinion. A quick glance at Gaius made Aleria question whether or not he shared her opinion. "Want this Ambipom?"

Gaius reached his hand toward his belt, reaching for a Pokeball. But, before he chose a Pokemon for the battle, thought for a moment. He looked at the purple Pokemon, and began to wonder if such a Pokemon even interested him. 'Do I actually want one of those? I already caught a normal type Pokemon earlier in the run, and I don't really need two. I'm not even sure if I'm going to use Lickitung for anything useful. It would be foolish to waste one of my captures, and my Pokemon's energy, on a Pokemon that I probably won't ever use. Plus, I literally just caught a monkey Pokemon, and Mankey is infinitely more useful than Ambipom.' As Gaius weighed his options, he watched the Ambipom. 'Nah, this Pokemon isn't worth my time. I can always find an Aipom somewhere along the way if I ever actually desire to get an Ambipom of my own. The evolution family doesn't even have much going for it at all, no major attacks worthwhile and mediocre power. At the most I could see it as some sort of novelty Pokemon that I could try to trade away at a Pokemon swap meet or something. Still, though, it's not worth me wasting my time with it. I hope the next Pokemon I come across is better.'

Gaius turned towards Aleria and delivered his answer. "No, I am not interested in an odd normal type monkey Pokemon with six appendages. I've already caught both a normal type Pokemon, and a species that resembles a monkey. Both of those seem millions of times better than this Ambipom. Who would actually be interested in this useless mutated monstrosity?" Gaius huffed and shook his head at the hanging Pokemon. He removed his hand from his belt, and readied himself to walk away towards Ambipom, and hopefully towards a more appealing Pokemon.

'A simple yes or no and offering to pay for a doll would've been nice... I didn't need to know your life story,' Aleria thought as she nodded, watching the Ambipom closely. Gaius was already moving away from the Ambipom, but the purple monkey went back up in the trees, and the leaves that casually fell from them signaled that the monkey was off to look for its friends or something. Whatever it was that Ambipom did. She wasn't really too sure.

But with Ambipom gone, Aleria and Gaius could continue on the path they were on. She could hear a faint meowing off to the side, and it peaked Aleria's interest. A Pokemon was over there, but which one? There were a few cat Pokemon in this world, and by a few, she meant a lot. And more were being discovered as each day passed on. Not that she minded. Cats were cool. Shame there were no Fire type cats. Aleria would be all over that like a Snorlax went for food. And Snorlax liked their food. They approached the cat, who was nibbling on a pink berry, one Aleria recognized as a Pecha Berry. The golden amulet on its forehead gave its species away: Meowth. It turned to look at them with wide, curious black eyes with slits for pupils; the cat meowed again.

    "Want a Meowth?"

OOC: Once again..Damn it..I already have one xD lolz. (and don't want two)

    IC:

Gaius looked at the small, normal type Pokemon. He could already tell that this Meowth was nothing special. Unknown to Aleria, Gaius already had a Meowth, and had no use for a second one. 'If there was some reason for me to want a second Meowth, I would at least try to find one that's powerful. My Meowth already has some tricks up its sleeve, per se, and I don't think this Pokemon has anything to offer me that my own Meowth cannot do. Sure, my Meowth isn't much of a battler, but I can always change that.' Gaius smiled, as he pictured ordering Meowth into battle, and it eventually evolving into Persian. 'This thing doesn't even look like it can perform any strong attacks, so there's no reason for me to waste my last capture on something this pathetic.' Gaius sighed, upset over the discovery of the cat Pokemon.

"No, I have no need of a Meowth. I already own a Meowth, and mine, unlike this alley cat, is actually quite useful. Besides, normal Meowth can be found all around south of Cerulean City in Kanto. Why would I want to waste my last catch on such a common and pathetic Pokemon? That Pokemon is the sort that I would round up and use for target practice for my Pokemon's attacks. I mean, catching that stupid Meowth may be something you might be interested in, if you're unable to actually find your own on Route Five. Fortunately for me, however, I don't suffer from such a lack of skill that would require me to waste my time on this furball. Besides, who actually wants to collect cat Pokemon anyway? One per species is enough for me, and I'm sure one-hundred percent of competent trainers agree with me, and, if you disagree, then I guess my suspicions about your lack of intelligence have been confirmed." Gaius waved his hand, thoroughly disgusted by the cat Pokemon's lack of usefulness.

"Let's keep going, and see if you can actually find me something worth my time, and my money." Gaius turned away from Meowth, and waited for Aleria to lead him to another Pokemon habitat.

Count to ten. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. Breathe. Inhale, exhale. At least James made running from things interesting. Gaius made it infuriating. Really, really infuriating. Thankfully, Aleria knew how to calm herself. The cat meowed, clearly insulted by Gaius' words, and ran off, taking a half eaten Pecha Berry with it. Aleria wished she could do the same. Poor cat would find a trainer that would love it and cuddle it and play with it, not some total jerk face like Gaius himself.

But with Meowth gone, Aleria continued walking, but she was forced to stop when a web created by a green Pokemon with a yellow face blocked their path. Sewaddle. Aleria sighed. Part of her didn't want to ask, knowing she'd hear a speech about how she was leading Gaius to weak, worthless Pokemon and whatnot. At least she'd be able to agree with him on the weak part. Sewaddle's final evolution, Leavanny, was super weak to Fire. Super duper weak. Unfortunately for her, she had to ask, as much as she didn't want to. "Can I safely assume this Sewaddle's not in your interest and you want to run away from it?"

Gaius thought for a moment, upon seeing the small green catapillar-like Pokemon. 'I don't have any bug or grass type Pokemon yet, and this Pokemon is definitely not from Kanto. That alone would make it an interesting catch. However, something seemed off about the Pokemon. Sewaddle didn't seem powerful at all. Despite being hard to find in Kanto, a useless Pokemon is useless just the same, no matter where it comes from.' Gaius's mind then wandered to another bug Pokemon that he massively desired, in fact, it was one of the reasons he chose this area of the island for his expedition. 'I wish I could find a Scyther, that's one of the strongest bug type Pokemon that I know of, and it would definitely be worth my time to raise it into a powerful fighter. However, this girl seems to only be able to find me weak and stupid Pokemon, so I'll probably have a better chance to go with someone else if I actually want something else that's worth my time. Still, though, I can get one more capture before I have to leave, so I might as well catch something, just not this.

"Wow, that's the first time today you have actually shown a spark of intelligence. There's some hope for you yet, girl. You are correct, this Pokemon looks even more pathetic than that puny Meowth from before. I would kindly ask that you start to use your ranger skills, that hopefully exist, to actually show me something that is worth more than the gum that I have in my pocket. I wouldn't want someone to feel the need to write a negative report to the park staff, as who knows what such a lengthy report concerning a ranger's incompetence might do to one's job. Best we not find out, right?"

Gaius sighed, and looked down at the small Pokemon. 'I wonder why they even allow such a weak and foolish Pokemon in here. They should only allow rare and powerful Pokemon in this park, just like the Kanto Safari zone. Perhaps I can write a suggestion letter to whoever owns this park, and they could always take my advice. I'm sure they'll have a lot more business if they take riffraff like Sewaddle and Meowth out.'

"Let's go, 'Alergy', hopefully you can actually do your job and help trainers find useful Pokemon, not three useless Pokemon in a row." Gaius walked away from Sewaddle, hoping that the next encounter wouldn't make him zero for three.

'I think we'll be lucky if the park staff don't find out about how I punched you in the face until all your teeth were knocked out,' Aleria thought, making a mental note to tell Makina just how lucky she was that she got to leave because Makina was so unbelievably lucky right now, it wasn't even funny. She clenched and unclenched her fists. 'Please, Arceus, keep me from punching this asshole in the face. Please. I'm so close to doing it.' Al redid her breathing exercises. She was going to beat her pillow into submission tonight. Self control was a beautiful thing, and Aleria was so lucky that she had it today. So very lucky.

Al was about to start to walk away, preparing to lead Gaius to the next Pokemon, which would hopefully be something he wanted so that this run could be over with and she wouldn't have to think these terrible things she was thinking right now, when the Sewaddle shot a string at Gaius' feet. It caught Aleria's attention, and she stopped, running her hands through the stray strands of her red hair. 'Why? Why, Arceus? Why do you hate me so much?'

"Looks like the Sewaddle wants to play. Wanna buy a doll for 500 PokeDollars?"

Gaius looked at the Sewaddle. He really had no intention on capturing the small Pokemon, however, it seemingly wanted a battle anyway. Normally Gaius would relish the chance to put the pathetic Pokemon in its place, but in this instance he had to use some restraint. He only had two of his Pokemon with him, and both were missing at least a third of their strength. If he wasted too much time and energy on fighting this pathetic Pokemon, he might not be able to actually catch a Pokemon that he wanted. 'I guess I should spend some of my money on an escape doll. I wish I didn't have to, but it seems like this stupid Pokemon won't give up. Oy veh, the sooner I get away from this Pokemon, the sooner I can find something worth my effort.' Gaius looked at the bug type Pokemon, and he wished that it would just leave him in peace. 'If the next Pokemon isn't worth my time, I'll see if I can file a complaint against Aleria due to excess boredom and stupidity.'

Gaius turned to Aleria and responded. "Sure, I'll gladly spend my own money to escape from a worthless and pathetic Pokemon that you led me to. Seriously, if I knew that I had to pay money to escape such a persistent Pokemon, I might have rethought coming to this racket-laden park. At least the sooner we get done with this expedition, the sooner I won't have to dumb down my vocabulary to a toddler-like level to accommodate your lack of intelligence. Seriously, did you get awarded most useless ranger award this year? Not only have you led me into three pointless encounters in a row, you've also succeeded in finding a Pokemon that won't know when to leave me alone." Gaius sighed, and hoped that the next encounter would actually be something he found interesting.

'Why couldn't we have found a Scyther, or a Zangoose or something. While Zangoose is a normal type Pokemon, at least it's something that would probably be worth a capture.' Gaius wondered if he should just catch the Sewaddle and end the run, but decided that it would be best to try and hope for something better. "Here's your five hundred dollars, the sooner we get away from this useless Pokemon the better." Gaius handed five one-hundred dollar bills to Aleria, hoping he could actually find something useful to catch.

Aleria snatched the five hundred PokeDollars from Gaius and shoved it in her bag. She took out a Pidove doll and tossed it at the ground as hard as she could, letting out a quiet grunt and being careful not to hit the Sewaddle. The little bug crawled over to it and nudged it towards the web it had made. It was nice to let out a bit of anger every once in a while. She mumbled, "I hope the next thing you encounter is total shit." 'Just like you,' she added mentally.

"Let's go," she growled, doing everything possible to keep herself from lashing out at Gaius. The doll let out some rage, but it was returning just as quickly as it came along when she took over for Makina. As they walked through the forest, they came across a stream, and as they walked along the stream, Aleria spotted a Pokemon. There were rocks that they could hop over to get to the other side of the lake, where the pink Pokemon with pluses for eyes sat drinking water from the river. It was a Whismur, and it looked up at them curiously. Aleria sighed. If this wasn't something Gaius wanted, she was going to jump in this lake, feign sickness, and leave just so that she could get away from him.

Okay, maybe she wouldn't go that far, but she'd probably find a new way to release some anger.

"Is a Whismur too stupid, too weak, too useless, too pointless, too worthless, and/or too pathetic for someone as high and mighty as the great Gaius vi Britannia?" Aleria asked, ticking off each of the problems Gaius had with the Pokemon found in the park thus far, besides the Lickitung and the Mankey, her voice dripping with sarcasm as she spoke. "Or is it actually worth the time of the greatest Pokemon trainer in the whole world? Do I actually get the honor of seeing the amazing Gaius vi Britannia battle for a third time? Or is my intelligence going to be insulted again? Am I going to have to endure another ten, fifteen, maybe even twenty minutes of your cockiness and your false belief that you're so much better than me?"

Gaius perked up when he saw the small, pink Pokemon. He quickly whipped out his smart phone and typed in the Pokemon's name into an online search engine. Within a moment, his phone had flooded with pages about the new Pokemon. 'Hm,' Gaius thought, 'Whismur is from the Hoenn region. It can evolve twice, first into Loudred, and then into an Exploud. This evolution line specializes in sound-based attacks, as the Pokemon names would suggest. Exploud's best attacks are Hyper Beam, and Hyper Voice. It also can learn a wide variety of fang or bite based attacks. The overall move versatility makes up for its somewhat underwhelming performance. I'm sure if I trained it well and taught it variety of other attacks, it could possess some powerful type coverage. Hm...I guess I'm going for it then.'

Gaius reached down onto his belt and grasped at his Pokeballs. 'I wonder, which Pokemon would be best? I could use Gengar since it knows Focus Blast, or I could try Acrobatics and Confuse Ray with Crobat. Since I just used Crobat, I guess it's Gengar's turn.' Gaius grabbed Gengar's Pokeball and threw it onto one of the rocks near their side of the stream. Gengar emerged from the ball, and looked at the small, pink Pokemon on the other side of the stream. Gaius finally noticed Aleria had been speaking, and decided to respond.

"Why thank you, Whismur is actually a nice find. I would have to go to Hoenn to get one otherwise, and I do dislike traveling to other regions, unless I actually know the Pokemon there first. It seems you actually have some usefulness, although that's all I'll say on that, I wouldn't want you to get the mistaken impression that you actually did a good job or anything. It was pure luck we ran into this Pokemon, and I'm sure you couldn't find it again if you even tried. Now," Gaius turned towards Aleria and pointed back towards an area of trees behind them, "maybe you should go pick some flowers or something. I wouldn't want you to get in the way of me battling and catching this Pokemon. Since, as we both know, only one of us here is actually skilled enough to be a Pokemon trainer, and we both know it's not you. Or, at least, I know it's not you. I'm not sure if you're still trying to delude yourself by being a glorified tour guide. Now, run along back there, scoot." Gaius laughed as he turned back to his Pokemon.

"Pestilence, try to meld your body into the water. When the Pokemon goes back to drinking, come out of the water right in front of it and hit it with a Focus Blast. After you hit it, try to merge with the water again for a quick get away. If you do good this time, just like you did with Lickitung, I'll see you're rewarded for your efforts. If you fail, well, you know the consequences."
