“Looks like you're up for another run, Makina,” a secretary called out, whose name escaped Makina at the moment. She skimmed over the document she was holding a moment before holding them out. “This time, you're taking a trainer named Felix through Mt. Deckbi.”

“Mount who in the where now?” Makina asked the secretary, not looking up from the book she was reading at her desk. After reading through ten pages of filler, the plot was finally getting somewhere. Maybe now it would finally be revealed to the true villain was...

“Maybe you know it better as Ranger Outpost Four?” the secretary remarked drily, swiping the novel from Makina. “Honestly, how can you forget about the only area with an active volcano? Anyways, you might want to head out as soon as possible. Your Trainer is already there waiting for you.”

“Transferring the data to my PDA would have helped then,” Makina muttered under her breath, trying to skim over the document while grabbing her Ranger gear. Felix appeared to be bringing along a team of four for this run, with all but one having a wide assortment of moves. She added some of the more essential data in her PDA, then lazily tossed one of her Pokeballs in the air.

In a white flash of light Aria, her Gardevoir, materialized. She looked over at her partner, noticing that the human was fully geared up to go somewhere. <Either you're over-prepared for another paper run, or we have another Trainer to escort.>

“Right on the second try. Can you take me to Outpost Four?” Makina asked Aria.

<You mean Mt. Deckbi,> Aria gently admonished, holding out one of her arms. <Hold on, then.>

“Oh, come on! How did you know and I didn't?” Makina replied, faking shock.

<Because, unlike you, I pay attention,> Aria said. In a flash of light, the two were transported to Mt. Deckbi.

The atmosphere was quiet at the outpost that day. There didn't seem to be much going on as I waited for the Ranger that seemed to be taking some time to get there. I just sat there right next to my Cinccino, taping my foot as time went by. But, time wasn't the thing on my mind at that moment. Cinccino jumped into my lap and smiled at me.

"Cinc!" is all she could say to try to comfort me.

I grabbed her and held her up in the air. She just kept smiling with that cute little face of hers.

"Why did you talk me into doing this? Do you have any idea how many fire Pokemon are up there?!" I asked as I looked straight at her.

"Cinccino..." she replied unimpressed.

"Yeah, I know, our team needs more fire types. But..." I began to say when I noticed my Cinccino glaring at me.

"Fine, you win Fumiyo. I'll try to be brave," I said as I slowly put her down.

I couldn't deny it. I was terrified of the idea of going up Mt. Deckbi, but I had to for the sake of the team.

Just then I notice someone appearing in the outpost. Not going through the door but rather materializing right into the room. If I wasn't used to that kind of thing I would have probably been surprised at that moment. I quickly recognized that it was a Gardevoir and a Ranger; hopefully the Ranger I was waiting for. I stood up and walked up to her.

"umm...Hello!" I greeted as Fumiyo ran to my side and waved to greet the two as well.

As the Outpost slowly came into focus, Makina blinked a couple times to better focus her surroundings. While teleporting around did have it's perks, the dizzying effect it carried with it left one disoriented for a few moments.

"umm...Hello!" a voice called from her side. Judging from the person's tone, they sounded quite nervous.

Waitasec... you teleported us inside of the building? Makina mentally spoke to Aria, finally noticing they were not outside of the Outpost like she had intended. What if we had landed on someone?

<But we didn't,> Aria replied aloofly. <Now face your Trainer. That human looks terrified.>

Ah, right... Makina turned about, facing the Trainer and holding out her hand. “You must be Felix. I'm Makina, and I'll be your Ranger for today. The Gardevoir beside me is Aria.”

Aria gave a silent nod of acknowledgment, both to Felix and the Cinccino standing beside the Trainer.

“If you have any questions or comments, feel free to voice them. Shall we get started?” Makina walked over to the exit and waited patiently for Felix to follow, seeing if he was ready.

I was still quite nervous. The fact that the Ranger was here and that I would be escorted made me feel better, but I still had to go through this expedition.

"Yes, I'm Felix, and this is Fumiyo, my Cinccino," I said as I smiled.

"Cinc!" exclaimed Fumiyo at the mention of her name.

"uhh...I don't have any questions for now, so...y-yeah, let's go," I said as I followed behind the trainer.

"Oh, I almost forgot," I added as I searched my backpack.

I quickly pulled out a brown can of spray. I put my backpack on the floor and took a step back as I began emptying the can on the front of the backpack. Once the can was empty I put the backpack back on and headed towards the Ranger again.

"I know that's unusual, but I have my reasons for just using the repellent that way. I do hope it still keeps away the fire types...I mean, the ground types. Yeah, ground types...I have no problems with fire types whatsoever," I said as I pretended not to be shaken at all.

I just put my head down and scratched the back of my head as I followed the ranger with Fumiyo right at my side.

Makina watched her Trainer rifle through his bag, pulling out a small spray can and removing the cap for use. Judging from the color, she guessed that it was either a Ground or Rock-type repellent; they were apparently often used in this area to avoid some of the more short-tempered wildlife, but Makina had no need of using them thanks to being able to Teleport from outpost to outpost with Aria. Once Felix commenced spraying the backpack rather than himself, however, she had to admit that she failed to see the point. Maybe his pack had something in it to attract Pokemon?

"I know that's unusual, but I have my reasons for just using the repellent that way,” Felix explained. “I do hope it still keeps away the fire types...I mean, the ground types. Yeah, ground types...I have no problems with fire types whatsoever," he finished, keeping his head down.

“I see,” Makina replied, trying to keep a straight face as they exited the Outpost. So her trainer was leery of Fire Pokemon? This could turn out to be an interesting Run. Aria, try to stay close to him. Make sure he doesn't unintentionally scare some of the local Fire-types.

<He'll be fine. If you haven't of noticed, his Cinccino is practically attached to him,> the Gardevoir responded not unkindly, looking over at the two. Makina gave a small nod, still uncertain but was willing to let the scene play out for now.

The trail was mostly barren save for an odd tree or two dotting the path every few hundred feet or so, clearly not flourishing in this environment but still toughing it out regardless. While the volcano was still well out of sight, a few smoky clouds could be seen far above them.

As they passed one of these trees, a long-dead hollowed out stump, an odd scratching sound made Makina pause a moment, trying to discover the source of the sound. She peered down into the stump, and noticed a small red Pokemon hiding inside. The creature looked hardly older than a child, and was attempting to scratch out pictures into the bark using a small lump of charcoal.

Makina slowly backed away from the stump, and motioned for Felix to get closer. “There's a Magby resting over there. They're hardly fierce, but can make a good partner down the line. Interested in catching it?”

The scenery actually didn't look so bad. There was still a bit of vegetation around and the barren field had an interesting color to it. I felt in awe as I imagined how living creatures could actually be found here. As we kept on walking, Fumiyo suddenly climbed up my shoulder and clung to it. I knew she saw something. What's worse, she had a good hold on me. That couldn't be a good sign.

Suddenly, the Ranger stopped. She brought my attention to a small creature that was playing in a corner with a Charcoal. It was kind of cute. Deadly but cute.

I listened to the Ranger's words and thought, "Well, it is a fire type, but it wasn't exactly what I had in mind."

I kept a distance and slowly kept walking forward as I said, "Oh no. That one is much too cute and it seems to be working on something. Let's not bother it."

"Yup, that's a good enough excuse," I thought to myself as Fumiyo glared at me while squeezing my shoulder.

I took a small turn and neared the Ranger. "uhh...Could I have a Pokedoll in case it comes back for me...I mean us?"

I tried my very best to look discrete. Still, there was something about this place that was just ruining my acting skills. I usually would be able to make anyone believe anything, but at the moment, I couldn't even fool myself.

Felix took a glance over at the Magby, but continued slowly walking forward on the path. "Oh no. That one is much too cute and it seems to be working on something. Let's not bother it." As an afterthought, he added, "uhh...Could I have a Pokedoll in case it comes back for me...I mean us?"

“Fair enough, and sure thing,” Makina shrugged, backing further away from the stump. She couldn't blame Felix for wanting to leave the Magby alone; it was hardly a child, and appeared to be really enjoying it's art. It already had a crude representation of a crater drawn out, and even a few stick figures that she could only assume were Magmar or other Magby. She quietly unzipped a pocket on her sidepack, reaching for one of the plushies that she kept stored there for the occasional retreat. Makina doubted they would need a Doll to escape, but couldn't hurt to have one ready...

As if it had read her thoughts, the Magby turned around and went rigid, staring at Makina a moment before turning it's gaze towards Fumiyo. It began to puff up into a tantrum, as if it was the worst offense possible to be disturbed while drawing away. With a flip of her wrist, Makina lightly tossed out the Pokedoll to the Fire-type, the toy landing right in front of it. In an eyeblink, the Magby pulled it's full attention towards the Doll, even backing up to get a large view of the object.

“Guess we gave it a muse,” Makina remarked with a grin, looking over at Felix. “Shall we continue?”

As they continued further on, the trail began to slope upwards, and most signs of flora all but disappeared. An impressive rock wall flanked their left side, the path following alongside it. Oddly enough, there appeared to be a shallow bowl cut into the wall not far ahead; even stranger, there were signs of movement within.

Makina held up a hand, indicating that they should move carefully ahead. She crept forward, glimpsing a sheen of metal. Soon the rest of the creature's body became more visible, and in no time a young Steel-type had walked forward, shaking off some of the excess dirt from it's hide. It looked over at Fumiyo, and cried out a greeting.

“Guess this is our lucky day. Aron are pretty laid back, and quite durable as well,” Makina stated. “Want to go for it?”

Fumiyo waved at the Aron as he greeted her while Felix thought for a moment about the Ranger's words. Fumiyo then looked back at Felix joyfully shouting "Cinc!" as she pointed towards the Aron.

He then sighed a bit and smiled as he said, "Well, I came here to find some fire types, but Aron would make a good addition to the team as well. Plus, he already has a friend."

Felix took out a Pokeball and as he expanded it he said, "Aron, I'm really sorry about this..."

Felix tossed the Pokeball forward. The ball rolled in the air for a few seconds before opening and letting out a flash of light which soon darkened and gained a form of a shadowy Pokemon that materialized right behind Fumiyo. A strange presence suddenly filled the areas as if the air itself was heavier to breath now. The cheerful Cinccino didn't seem affected by it. She looked back and noticed the Dusknoir behind her only to respond with a smile and her arms up in celebration.

"Cinccino!" shouted Fumiyo as she jumped over the Dusknoir and headed back to my side.

I finally stopped looking nervous as I focused on the scene straight ahead and said, "Laurence, make it rain fire. Will-o-wisp high up then Gravity."

Laurence's eye gave out a suddenly glow as it accepted the command. He moved his arms forward as blue balls of fire began appearing around him. As he shifted his arms upwards, the balls were shot diagonally towards the sky. Immediately after, Laurence closed his fists and pulled his arms back as a force that tried to pull everyone against the floor began to spread. The force suddenly began to pull on the blue flames causing them to come down towards Aron as a small meteor shower.

I tried my best to remain on my feet while Fumiyo simply rested on the floor watching the battle while saving her strength. I couldn't take my eyes of the battle myself as I knew Laurence wouldn't approve, but I did wonder if the Ranger was okay. I hoped that Gravity didn't take her by surprise.

 

OOC: Aron gender? Also, think I need to write about Ghosts more often, ideas seem to appear more for some reason...

Felix watched the the two Pokemon interact for a moment before replying, giving a small smile as he did so. "Well, I came here to find some fire types, but Aron would make a good addition to the team as well. Plus, he already has a friend."

“Indeed it does,” Makina replied with a grin of her own. Despite being a sturdy Steel-type, the Aron looked anything but ferocious at the moment. It appeared to be absolutely fascinated in Fumiyo's foreign appearance. Needless to say, she was a little surprised when Felix had fished out another Pokeball instead of using his Cinccino.

"Aron, I'm really sorry about this..." Felix said, and lightly tossed the sphere forward.

As the Pokemon materialized, the trademark white light that often preceded Pokemon before becoming fully formed began to grow dark, enveloping into a shadowy aura. This aura only appeared to intensify as the creature came into view, revealing itself to be a formidable Dusknoir. Fumiyo didn't appear phased by it; instead, she let out a cry to greet her friend before running back over to Felix.

"Laurence, make it rain fire. Will-o-wisp high up then Gravity," Felix commanded, all nervousness in his voice suddenly dissipated.

The Dusknoir, that is, Laurence, lifted his arms towards the sky, and small glowing embers began to form at every fingertip, each glowing a brilliant blue. Suddenly his single eye began to glow, and the embers shot upwards, directly above the Aron.

“Interesting choice,” Makina mused, watching the Dusknoir in action. Without warning, she felt a sudden jerk on her arm and experienced an odd sense of disorientation, then realized that she was suddenly watching the fight directly beside Felix. She looked to her other side and, sure enough, Aria was there. What did you do that for?

<Were you not paying attention?> Aria responded, her eyes blazing <You were right next to that creature! That attack could have hit you. I won't always be here to help save your hide.> Leaving the discussion closed for now, they silently witnessed the battle.

As the wisps floated ominously above, Laurence balled up his fists, as if gripping onto an invisible object, and jerked down. Immediately an almost tangible heaviness filled the air, the field getting stronger as it reached the two Pokemon. The embers crashed down as well, making it indeed rain fire.

Aron appeared to be merely confused by the sudden change in the air. It appeared to be a little harder to move, true, but what did it matter when one only ate immobile iron? It wasn't until the first wisp landed a mere inch away that it finally took notice. It gave a startled squeak as the other embers fell, one landing dead on, leaving a nasty burn. In an effort to escape, it began to scrape off the most bulky parts of it's metal armor, leaving a small pile of steel shavings as it quickly retreated. It looked about, eyes finally resting on Laurence and noticing that the flames appeared to repelled from the Ghost. Giving another cry, the Aron began to charge forward, glowing with a light violet light. Despite being somewhat incorporeal, the attack still appeared to damage Laurence; he gave a surprised grunt and was pushed backwards almost a foot.

“You definitely got it's attention, that's for sure,” Makina commented once the final embers had fallen. “By shedding some of it's armor though, Aron is bound to strike quickly.”

I watched carefully as the rain of fire seemed to have done its work, but the Aron turned out to not be a pushover which was okay with me. I did expect him to try something kept itself out of harms way like Autotomize, but that strong physical move caught me off guard. Either way we were still in this.

Laurence seemed surprised as well as he was pushed back, but that only made him more determined. I looked over at the battle scene, thinking that just attacking wouldn't work with their speed differences.

Using a serious tone myself, I shifted my sight towards my Dusknoir and said, "Okay Laurence, use Future Sight Figure out what he'll do next then strike him down with Fire Punch. Aim for the burn."

When Fumiyo heard the command, she covered her eyes and rolled up her ears. She was afraid to know how that would turn out.

Laurence just stood there, staring into nothingness as he looked into the events to come. Knowing what was going to happen, he still didn't more. Instead he held his fist in front of him waiting or just the right moment.

Felix shot a look over at the Aron, clearly surprised that such a small Pokemon could pack quite a punch. Regardless, he turned back towards his Dusknoir, ready to issue another command. "Okay Laurence, use Future Sight. Figure out what he'll do next then strike him down with Fire Punch. Aim for the burn."

Laurence gave a small nod then stood perfectly still, keeping his gaze directly ahead. The Dusknoir's eye wavered a moment or two, as if witnessing events that were to happen in the near future.

Makina suppressed a shudder as she watched the Dusknoir in action. She was no stranger to Ghost-types in the least, even keeping a Banette as one of her trusted partners around the Park. At the moment though, Laurence appeared to resemble a Xatu more then a Dusknoir. She looked over at Aria, noticing that the Gardevoir watched the scene as if it was perfectly normal.

Aron, who had stepped back after ramming Laurence, gave a sudden leap forward. It's head took on a bright metallic sheen, and attempted to ram the Dusknoir head-on. Laurence merely sidestepped the charge, and quickly shot one his right hand forward, balling it into a fist. At the last moment it appeared as if the hand was aflame, and struck the Aron hard in the side. It gave a surprised cry and was knocked off course, landing a few steps to the Dusknoir's left.

Aron began to let off what sounded like a string of nonsense to Makina, the phrase repeated over and over in a mantra. Once this was completed, the Pokemon appeared to have a renewed confidence, yet still winced from it's burn.

“I think Aron just increased his strength by using Curse,” Makina advised Felix. “He'll be a little slower now, but will pack more of a punch.”

That the plan had worked almost perfectly. Laurence managed to avoid damage and landed a hit with his fiery fist, but had missed the burned spot just by a bit. Now it seemed that the Aron had increased his power, but that didn't bother me much. What worried me is that he had also increased his already impressive defense. We had to find a way around that defense. Thankfully, that was Laurence's specialty.

"Laurence, circle around him with Shadow Sneak then strike with Night Shade," I said with a neutral tone. Sure, I sounded dry, but in reality I was upset about having to battle such a sweet little Pokemon.

"Dusk...noir..." Laurence's voice echoed as he began to sink into his own shadow.

The shadow suddenly began to swiftly move around zigzagging from one corner to another until it reached Aron and began to move in circles around him. Its speed was impressive, especially considering that it was the shadow of a Dusknoir.

The shadow finally stopped on Aron's blind spot. Immediately, Laurence began raising up from the ground shooting what looked like a sinister black lightning out of its eye right towards Aron.

At that moment, Fumiyo, my Cinccino, began looking forward at the battle again, more intrigued than scared since she noticed Aron wasn't doing too bad.

"Laurence, circle around him with Shadow Sneak then strike with Night Shade," Felix commanded, still keeping his voice completely neutral. Fumiyo, on the other hand, finally began to uncover his eyes and was avidly watching the battle.

Laurence, hearing the command, began to silently sink into the ground. In his place lay a small shadow, seemingly harmless save for the aura of foreboding that it emanated. Slowly, the shadow made it's behind the Aron.

Aron, seeing the Dusknoir dive underground, gave a mighty leap into the air. Such a maneuver was encumbered by the Gravity field still effecting the area, but the creature was lighter thanks to using Autotomize earlier. It struck the ground hard, sending ripples out where it landed.

Laurence shuddered as the ripple struck him, but stuck on his path. As soon as the Aron landed, he rose out from the ground and swiped at the Steel-type with his hands. While the damage caused by the attack was minimal, the strike had hit the burn mark on his back; Aron let out a pained cry, and whirled about, one of his legs glowing with a shadowy aura.

Laurence commenced the second part of his attack, and a dark aura began to glow around the Dusknoir and transfer over tot he Aron. Something seemed off, however, the glow appeared to be sluggish and delayed. Because of this newfound slowness, both attacks struck at the same time. The two Pokemon staggered, then glared at each other.

“Laurence appears a little shaken up thanks to that Bulldoze,” Makina remarked. “Clever of that Aron, using a Ground-type move only when his opponent was grounded.”

I watch as Aron did his best to perform a ground type move. It seemed to have been successful and my Dusknoir's speed notably dropped.

"Hang in there Laurence! You can do it!" I said right before he managed to strike and continue on with the battle.

That's when I noticed Aron's tiny legs giving out a shadowy glow. I thought for a moment about what that meant, but I figured it out too late as the Shadow Claw attack collided with Laurence's Night Shade. Both Pokemon seemed to have taken some damage, but the battle wasn't over.

I payed attention to the Ranger's words and responded, "Yes, that's a really smart Aron, and fast too. We need to even that up."

"And since we can't speed up, we'll have to slow him down," I thought to myself.

"Laurence, pay attention to Aron's movements and use Disable!" I exclaimed with a confident voice. I was actually glad that Aron was doing so well. I didn't want him to hold the battle against me.

My Dusknoir tried his best to lock his sight onto the Aron. Laurence waited for Aron shift direction or at least run towards him. His experience told him that those changes gave a momentary pause which was just what he needed.

I myself was waiting as well and as soon as I saw Laurence perform his Disable attack I shouted, "Use Hex now!"

"Yes, that's a really smart Aron, and fast too,” Felix replied. “We need to even that up.” He appeared lost in thought a moment, as if trying to decide what to do next. Finally, he turned to Laurence once more, with renewed confidence, “Laurence, pay attention to Aron's movements and use Disable!”

Makina was surprised to see such a move used in this situation, but said nothing. Disable was a move more commonly used in double battles, mainly because while it did immobilize the opponent, it also caused the user to use their full concentration on keeping the move active. In other words, the two would be at a stalemate once Disable was activated. In addition, both Pokemon were still rather close to each other; Laurence would have to strike quickly before the speed-boosted Aron could retaliate.

Laurence hovered in place, watching the Aron carefully for any sign of movement. If the Ghost-type was feeling any sort of impatience , it was doing well to keep it hidden. Eventually the Aron made it's move, the Steel-type's head shot forward, trying to strike the Dusknoir. Laurence merely gave a powerful glare is response, and the Aron was surrounded by a glowing field as the Disable took form.

"Use Hex now!" Felix called out suddenly, once the Aron was immobilized.

Laurence swiftly backed up and dropped the field, and a single massive glowing eye began to take shape above the Dusknoir. As the eye opened, it shot it's gaze directly at the Aron, who began to glow once more, this time in the same shadowy hue as the eye. It screeched as the aura pulsed, as if the aura further aggravated the burn on it's back. Oddly though, a new aura began to overtake the one caused by the Hex, this one a striking silver color.

Before Makina could call out a warning to Felix, the aura appeared to absorb the remaining energy from Hex, and was charged into a beam beginning to form around the Aron's mouth. It shot forward, dispelling the eyeball and causing Laurence to get knocked back.

“Metal Burst,” Makina muttered, looking over at the Aron. The creature was shaking thanks to the Hex and pulling off such a powerful move, but kept it's gaze on Laurence. It would be interesting to see what Felix's next move would be.

Finally things were starting to fall into place. That Aron was a lot tougher and more resistant than I thought, but thankfully, Laurence was very patient and dedicated. He didn't like to underestimate his opponent and liked doing his job right.

Disable had worked perfectly, so I called my next command. I had to admit, not matter how many times I saw it myself, I couldn't get used to seeing a random shadowy eye appear and spread pain that way. Then it happened. Aron began absorbing that energy and released it at once before I had any chance of giving my Dusknoir a new command. It was clear that it had dealt a lot of damage, but Laurence didn't seem to worried about it. He just stood there, tough, focusing on what to do next to further weaken Aron as he was clearly aware that succeeding meant that the Steel-type would become a new member of our team.

I was trying to come up with a new strategy. Something that could possibly bring us close to victory, but as it was, we were too slow, Aron was too fast, and at the moment, too close to Laurence. Then I noticed something; Aron's stare. The way his gaze seemed to be locked onto my Dusknoir. Now I knew what to do.

I looked back at the ghostly Pokemon and said, "Laurence, Astonish."

Laurence quickly understood the command as his body began to stretch. The already unnerving aura he was giving out seemed to be getting stronger for a moment. The frighting image of a face in his body began to glow slightly and even opened its mouth as the rest of Laurence's body darkened. The Dusknoir even gave out a ghostly screech which caused an echo.

"Leer!" I shouted as I pointed forward.

Laurence's single eye began to glow as well in a sinister white only adding to the horror display. I looked to my side only for a moment and noticed Fumiyo rolled up almost into a ball, covering her ears and eyes while shaking. She was completely terrified even though it's nothing she hadn't seen before. I waited a bit in hope that the combo would have the same effect on Aron.

As soon as I noticed a definite reaction from Aron, I then added, "Right there! Laurence, use Dark Pulse!"

Suddenly, a dark energy began emanating from Laurence's horrifying body and spread outwards into the air. The energy headed towards Aron attempting to surround him. Laurence gave out yet another ghostly screech to add some more fear into the scene in hopes that this would be enough to avoid further damage from the tiny Steel-type; a hope I shared as well.

I smiled for a moment towards the Ranger and said before focusing on the battle again, "I don't know if this happens to everyone, but after spending such a long time with ghost types, I tend to forget how great they really are at scaring."

Felix appeared relatively unfazed to see Aron use Metal Burst; perhaps he knew of the powerful Steel-type move before, or had seen it in action in a prior battle. Regardless, once the beam had faded, he turned towards Laurence and readied another command. “Laurence, Astonish."

Laurence looked over at the Aron and began to expand, growing larger by the moment. Meanwhile, the innate presence of Dusknoir, added to the heavy weight in the air caused by Gravity, appeared to magnify the Pokemon's presence. The face on Laurence's stomach appeared to open, and even let out a loud screech.

“Leer!” Felix called, aiming to magnify the frightening effect further. This was hardly needed; poor Fumiyo was completely curled up into a furry ball, and even Aria was showing signs of unease at the display. If two experienced Pokemon were afraid, the young Aron would be absolutely terrified.

Sure enough, Aron was petrified as he saw the Dusknoir grow in size, staring straight at him. Once Laurence's eye began to glow and lock onto the wild Pokemon's gaze, the Aron began to shiver, letting out a whimper. Suddenly the entire Pokemon's body began to take on a metallic sheen, and it charged straight at the Dusknoir.

"Right there! Laurence, use Dark Pulse!" Felix shouted, once the Aron had moved.

Aron managed to crash into Laurence's midsection before the starting pulses began to form right beside the still-open mouth on his stomach. Once the dark waves had fully materialized, however, they somehow pushed the Aron away, towards the rock wall. As he was pushed back, the small Pokemon spat back some pulsing waves of his own, these ones rippling in the light. The Dark Pulse managed to negate most of the blow, but the smaller rings splashed onto the Dusknoir, causing more annoyance then pain.

"I don't know if this happens to everyone, but after spending such a long time with ghost types, I tend to forget how great they really are at scaring," Felix remarked, smiling fondly over at Laurence.

<”Scaring” would be an understatement,> Aria said silently, the Gardevoir giving off a slight shiver.

Makina nodded in agreement with Aria, and replied to Felix. “Some trainers seem to love the scare factor that Ghosts can cause. Myself, I tend to stick with the simple pranks and their ability to phase.”

Aron had landed a ways away from Laurence, not crashing into the wall but managing to land mere inches away from impact. The wall appeared to give him an idea, however; the Aron began to look over at the wall curiously, then began to let out a piercing screech. At first, nothing appeared to happen. Without warning, the ground began to shake underneath them.

“Aron's up to something new,” I called out to Felix, looking about. “Whether you choose to attack or defend, do so quickly!”

The scene had been nothing less than terrifying. Laurence's performance was, as the move would suggest, astonishing. Aron was shaking, Fumiyo was shaking, and even myself, although I wasn't showing it, was still not used to seeing that combo, although it works so well. Laurence seemed to be overdoing it a bit with the screams though.

Still, even with that, the shaken Aron still tried to charge in with an attack of his own. He slammed into Laurence, but with so much of his heavy armor having been shed off and my Dusknoir being quite sturdy himself, Aron's attack didn't seem to bother Laurence much, especially not while Gravity was still in effect.

Right then the dark energy Laurence had created surrounded Aron and attempted to cover him. It seemed that Aron tried to resist it a bit with his metallic shine, but between that and the negative force of the impact, Aron was sent flying back. He managed to create some sort of attack involving rings that seemed to bend light as they moved through the air, probably a Water Pulse, but Laurence's Dark Pulse managed to overpower the attack a bit. It only seemed to slightly bother the Dusknoir.

Now there was a mystery to think about. Aron was screeching against the mountain side and the ground began to shake. The Ranger even warned me that Aron was up to something. I thought that if it was Earthquake, Aron wouldn't need the mountain wall for anything, and that's when it hit me.

"Rock Slide..." I whispered as I opened my eyes widely due to the realization.

I shifted my eyes towards Laurence and shouted, "Laurence, quick, use dodge with Shadow Sneak!"

I could only hope that my Dusknoir could sink into his shadow quick enough dodge the incoming attack, and more than that, that I wasn't misinterpreting Aron's actions. Laurence didn't look weakened at all, but I knew that was just him trying to be tough. I knew Laurence's health had taken a huge beating throughout the battle.

I watched as Laurence attempted to become one with his shadow to follow the command. With any luck, Gravity would actually help him do so. Fumiyo finally unrolled and watch the events unfold as well.

I thought it was time finish the battle. I quickly looked through my backpack and pulled out what looked like a Pokeball, only this one had some markings on it and the top was brown instead of the traditional red.

"Laurence, let's end this!" I said as I waited for him to come out half way out of his shadow. "Shadow Punch!" I exclaimed as I gripped tightly on the ball.

Laurence then began punching into the air aiming towards Aron. Fist-shaped shadows began jumping out of Laurence's hands as he punched forward. The shadows curved upwards in the air a bit before diving down directly at Aron. Both me and Fumiyo looked closely awaiting the result of the attack.

"This is it! Come on..." I began saying as I took a pitcher's pose. "...Parkball!" I exclaimed as I threw the ball towards the wild Pokemon.

My first attempt at a capture in this expedition. My heart began to beat fast as my eyes locked onto the ball that was swiftly flying towards Aron.

Felix's response to the earth-shake was near instantaneous. "Laurence, quick, use dodge with Shadow Sneak!" he commanded the Dusknoir, a tone of urgency in his voice. Laurence gave a swift nod, and began sinking into the ground once more.

Felix was taking a great risk, ordering Laurence to hide underground while the ground was shaking. If it escalated to another Bulldoze or, even worse, an Earthquake, the Dusknoir would be completely helpless. Thankfully, his guess proved to be a correct one: Aron gave another roar, and rocks began to fall down the wall, further aided in their downfall by the Gravity field. The first rock barely missed Laurence as he made his retreat, and the Ghost-type made his way over to the Aron. The Steel type appeared to hesitate a moment, trying to decide what to do next.

"Laurence, let's end this! Shadow Punch!" Felix called out, holding on to what appeared to be a Parkball. The young trainer must have pulled out the Ball while Laurence was avoiding the Rock Slide.

Laurence made his way to the Aron, placing his shadow just underneath the wild Pokemon. Suddenly he sprang up, launching the Aron upwards from the force. One of the Dusknoir's fists began to take on a eerie violet hue, and struck the Steel-type with an impressive uppercut.

“Come on...Parkball!” Felix yelled, throwing the sphere like a pitcher would in a ball game. It flew forward, sucking in the Aron with a brilliant red light. The Ball shook once, twice, then gave off a small ping, indicating that the capture was successful.

“Congratulations, that was definitely an interesting fight,” Makina said, grinning as she picked up Aron's Parkball. “I'll hold on to any Pokemon that you capture during this run, and at the end you may pick three that you wish to take with you. They will be given to you after the proper paperwork is filled out. Shall we continue on?”

The area kept on trembling for a moment as Laurence kept sinking into his shadow. As it turns out, I guessed right. As Aron roared, rocks began to fall off the mountain, but thanks to Shadow Sneak, my Dusknoir was able to avoid it. Not only was he able to dodge the attack, but Laurence caught Aron by surprise. Not sure of what to do, Aron hesitated giving Laurence a chance to strike with his shadowy fists.

At that moment I threw the Parkball which hit its target. The ball absorbed Aron in and began to shake, but only a little as it quickly stopped.

"Yes! My first capture!" I exclaimed as I ran towards Laurence with Fumiyo running right behind me.

The Ranger went to pick the Parkball and explained how the park rules worked. I listened and nodded, but then I turned around towards Laurence and hugged him.

"You did great Laurence!" I said while Fumiyo on the other side jumped to pat the Dusknoir's back.

Laurence didn't respond the hug, but he did turned red for a bit. He was probably embarrassed. I then pulled out Laurence's Pokeball.

"See ya later Laurence!" I said as a red beam came out of the red and white sphere which absorbed Laurence into the ball.

I finally turned towards the Ranger while Fumiyo climed up my left shoulder and said, "Alright, I'm ready. Let's continue."

"Cinc, Cinccino!" shouted Fumiyo as she pointed forward announcing the continuation of their march.
