Airik had to take time to think, Shiftry was taking a fair amount of damage. Airik was sticking to his normal Conservative battle style as things between the Tangela and his own Shiftry where close. Airik decided to set up for a effective healing move in the next few turns. "Shiftry, use your sunny day" Airik shouted this and although Shiftry was bound by Tangela's vines he managed to wave his leaf like hands in a rhythmic pattern familiar to Airik. Soon the clouds had parted and shaft of sunlight pierced the heavens covering Shiftry almost like a spotlight.

"Well Done" Airik called to Shiftry, "Now Follow up with a Razor Wind attack, Try and blow Tangela back a bit maybe get him to loosen those vines"

"Shiftry" the pokemon nodded and it began to spin the leaf like hands to whip up a mini storm.

    BP-4: Shiftry VS Tangela

    Ranger John Shay

"Shiftry, use your Sunny Day!" Airik commanded.

Shiftry nodded, and waved his fan-like hands at the sky. The sun's rays intensified, making the area around us much brighter. I knew that this move would increase Shiftry's Speed because of his Chlorophyll ability, which would help him get out of this sticky situation.

"Well done," Airik said, "Now follow up with a Razor Wind attack. Try and blow Tangela back a bit, maybe get him to loosen those vines."

Shiftry nodded, and blew another tornado at the Tangela. Tangela saw the attack coming, but was too slow to react. The attack knocked him over and onto his back.

"Tangela!" the Pokemon cried. However, he did not relinquish his grip around Shiftry. I doubted the Bind would last too much longer, but as long as Shiftry was stuck in it, it was a pretty tough situation for him.

Tangela slowly returned to his feet. The Pokemon looked like he was beginning to tire. However, he continued attacking. One of his vines floated up to Shiftry, and whipped at his wrist. This attack was easy to recognize - it was Knock Off. Seeing it right now was odd, since Shiftry didn't have a held item. However, I knew better than to question a confused Pokemon's judgment - it was bound to be poor at times, if not all the time. Since Tangela did have two Attack boosts, Knock Off wasn't a complete waste of a move anyways.

Shiftry took the attack fortunately the Wicked pokemon wasn't holding any items, despite this knock off still did enough damage to make Shiftry cry out in pain. Airik looked on he knew this battle was not going his way at all, "Shiftry, we need to regain some lost ground". Airik shouted this across the field towards the battling pokemon, "Try to use a Synthesis to regain some of that lost health". Airik had decided to fall back on tried and tested methods of persistence and tenacity, now all he needed to do is have Shiftry use an attack to hopefully add to Tangela's confused state. "Shiftry, Before you use your Synthesis distract it with a Faint attack, Hopefully that will let you recover more health"

    Shiftry vs Tangela

    Ranger Damian Hikotori

"Bzzt...Bzzt" my phone vibrated on my desk. Picking it up, i saw it was a message from John, a fellow ranger. "Run in Botanic gan't continue, you want?" the messege read. I quickly typed back a ya, then released my flying companion, Wishy. Wishy was a Togekiss that went everywhere with me. Opening the window, I assumed it was big enough for us to go out.

"Ok Wishy, we're headed to the Gardens, looking for a trainer using a Shiftry against a Tangela," I said to my partner. I jumped out of the third story window and my winged angel-like pokemon followed. I landed on her back and we took off an an astonishing speed, headed for the giant garden in the park. I looked down as we passed over, and spotted our trainer, with John, about ready to leave.

"Ok girl, down there," i said, right as John took off. We flew down underneath a tree a safe distance away from the battle. I would have called out to notify the trainer that we were there, but at the same time I didn't want to distract him.

I heard the trainer issue his final orders as I landed as well. "Shiftry, Before you use your Synthesis distract it with a Faint attack, Hopefully that will let you recover more health" the trainer commanded. I then felt my Pokegear buzz with the trainers info. Pulling it out, I saw that this trainers name was Airik. There was also a note from john.

"Probably leaving after this battle," John said. I noded even though i knew he couldnt see me. Looking back up, I saw Shiftry dash foward. Shiftry dissapeared, then reappeared behind Tangela. Hitting the obviously confused Tangela, the poor creature just stumbled and fell. Shiftry used this opportunity to get some health back. Looking to the now bright sun, hiftry's leaves began glowing. They glowed a brilliant white, a sign of shiftry regaining energy.

Looking back to the Tangela, i saw that it was standing back up. Something was different though, it's eyes weren't as glossy. That meant that it was no loner confused. I knew that this coult turn out badly for Airik if he didn't think of somethng quickly.

Airik felt as much as knew that something was different, Shiftry knew it as well normally the Wicked pokemon would perform better but his technique seemed a bit lacklustre during the execution of that Faint attack. Airik turned and John was gone, Airik looked around and a white dot against the blue of the sky began to get bigger. This was obviously what spooked Shiftry, Tangela seemed to have noticed it as well the shape got closer and larger and Airik could make out it was a pokemon of some kind. Grass types where naturally distrustful of Flying type pokemon mostly because they formed part of the Flying types diet after all.

The Grass types stopped fighting and backed off until the pokemon had landed it was a Togekiss a flying type and being naturally faster than both Shiftry and Tangela they had a right to worry as they could take a considerable amount of damage before they could themselves respond with an attack. Someone had been riding the Togekiss directing and this person now dismounted. Airik looked at him, "Since John's gone you must be my new Ranger, I'm Airik" Airik reached out to shake the mans hand.

The two grass types seemed to have relaxed realising the Togekiss was no threat to either of them, there temporary truce out of the window they both returned to circling each other like it was some kind of mexican stand off. Airik needed to make a move and fairly quickly while the Tangela was still a little bit distracted, "Shiftry Use Nasty plot, then hit it with another Leaf Tornado" Airik looked on as Shiftry mimicked the actions of a man deep in thought, this was his Nasty plot soon Shiftry was performing a familiar spinning movement that whipped the air and detritus around him into a tornado howling with all the fury of the wind.

I was heading to an area that I wasn’t particularly fond of to take over for the newest ranger to be hired, Damian Hikotori. While I liked the many Grass types that could be found there, I found that the over abundance of the Normal and Flying types bothered me. I was a Water and Ice trainer by heart, my Water collection being fairly large in of itself. I owned twenty-five Water Pokemon to go along with all those on my other team.

Just by glancing at the trainer’s profile of Damian’s trainer, who was named Airik, I could tell that he was a Grass Pokemon trainer, made evident by the three Grass types he had brought into the park with him. Grass on Grass would be some tough match ups without some Poison type moves, but it seemed he was doing fine because he had already caught two Pokemon and was facing a third.

With my Togekiss flying me, I soon located the battle and flew towards it. When I reached the ground I dismounted, thanked and recalled Togekiss, walked over to Damian to get the caught Pokemon, and turned to the battle. It was between a Tangela and Shiftry, Shiftry had the clear advantage, but Tangela was no easy Pokemon to take out.

I exchanged a handshake with Airik and watched the battle, waiting to see what direction it would take next.

“Shiftry, use Nasty Plot, then hit it with another Leaf Tornado,” Airik called to his Pokemon.

Shiftry slowed its movements and seemed to draw itself in. I could almost imagine the gears in his head moving as the Pokemon thought up some particularly nasty things to do Tangela. Tangela, a tangle of vines hiding its body, didn’t seem to like what the Shiftry was doing. It lifted two of its vines, and from those shot a stream of purple liquid. The poison liquid splashed on Shiftry, drawing a groan from the Pokemon.

Shiftry snapped from his thoughts and focused on its next attack. He started to spin, at first doing nothing, but then he started to draw many leaves around him. Soon he had a tornado of leaves built up around him, with a cry he flung the attack at Tangela. Tangela dug its vines in the earth as the attack passed over it.

As the attack died down I could see that Tangela was glowing a muted white in color. The color faded a moment later and the Grass Pokemon was back to normal.

Airik new that things could easily go down hill from here and wanted to put an end to this as quickly as possible, Shiftry Couldn't draw this battle out much longer he needed to be decisive and hit Tangela Hard. "Shiftry" Airik Called "We need to hit it hard, please be careful this Tangela is a dangerous foe". Airik was rather looking forward to training with and studying the vine pokemon it was a confident and skilled battler and was dealing some good damage to Shiftry and would make an excellent addition to his stable of grass type pokemon.

"Ok Shiftry, it's time. Hit it with your Faint attack" This was a move Shiftry had been using often in this battle in a constant attempt to keep the slower Tangela off balance it seemed to be working somewhat but Airik knew he couldn't continually use it before the Tangela caught on to what was happening. Shiftry began to dart about so that his attack would come from an unseen angle.

"Good Shiftry" Airik's next move for shiftry was something that would hopefully do more damage. "Now Shiftry, hit it with a leaf storm" Airik shouted and the Wicked pokemon began to spin it's arms around and again began to stir up winds that gathered in speed and in those winds where hundreds of knife like leaves. Shiftry shot the torrent of knife like daggers directly towards Tangela the winds current carrying the blade like foliage aloft towards there target.

Airik was impressed Shiftry was battling hard, Hopefully Tangela could appreciate that. "So" Airik said ,directing his attention towards the new ranger, "I realise coming into the Gardens with all grass types is rather odd I was considering taking myself and this lot" Airik Motioned towards Shiftry and then towards his bag with the stored pokemon in "Off to the great lakes, other than water types what am I likely to find round there"

OOC: @AmericanTreeFrog ment to add that this will be a male Tangela

@Airik - By all rights that Tangela should have been dead from that Leaf Storm, I am cutting you a little slack though. Be careful in the future.

As the battle went on Airik seemed to become more nervous with the results of the battle. “Shiftry, we need to hit it hard, please be careful. Ok, Shiftry, it’s time. Hit it with your Faint Attack.”

Airik had seemed to opt for a physical Dark type move, one that was of medium power. Despite only having a base power of sixty, next to Night Slash it was one of the most common Dark physical attacks around.

Airik wasn’t done, however. “Good, Shiftry. Now, Shiftry, hit it with a Leaf Storm.”

My jaw nearly dropped at the last command, I wasn’t sure if I heard myself correctly. Airik having Shiftry use Leaf Storm was a foolhardy move, one that I would never recommend at this stage of the battle if a train was trying to catch a battle. While Tangela was a Grass type also, it was still a basic, and Shiftry possessed a high special attack, made more so by the Nasty Plot. Coupled with the Faint Attack, I was positively that Tangela would be knocked out, and therefore unable to be captured.

Shiftry’s limbs turned dark, a pitch black in color as it prepared to use Faint Attack. Tangela dug its vines in the ground and lifted up chunks of stone, which it started to toss at Shiftry at a high rate. As the stones sped towards Airik’s Pokemon they turned white and appeared jagged. It was an Ancient Power attack, a special Rock type move with a chance to raise all the stats of the user Pokemon.

As the stone flew towards Shiftry it started to prepare its next attack. He raised his limbs to the sky and began to chant. Slowly hundreds of leaves gathered around the Pokemon until it formed what could only be described as a mini hurricane of leaves. The energy imbued Ancient Power still managed to pass through and hit Shiftry, but were weakened by going through the Leaf Storm.

Shiftry fired the Leaf Storm at Tangela then shifted through the shadow to appear behind Tangela. It struck Tangela with the Faint Attack then dodged once more before the Leaf Storm struck. As the Shiftry tried to retreat, Tangela lashed out with some vines in a Return attack, but Shiftry was too fast and the attack missed. The Leaf Storm it hit right after. Tangela was pelted by hundred of leaves, each doing only a tiny amount of damage, but it slowly added up.

As the battle was obscured by the Leaf Storm Airik turned to me. “So, I realize coming into the Gardens with all Grass types is rather odd. I was considering taking myself and this lot,” he indicated his Shiftry and those Pokemon on his belt, “off to the Great Lakes. Other than Water types what am I likely to find round there.”

I kept my eyes glued to the battle, but replied to his question. “I’ve been there a total of three times, and you pretty much only run into Water typed Pokemon.” When the Leaf Storm died down I saw that the Tangela was badly wounded, it was laying on its side, eyes closed, and breathing heavily. I whistled in surprise. “You are really lucky, that Tangela should have fainted. You’re going to have to have to attempt a capture soon because it can’t take another attack.”

Airik was talking to the ranger as the battle progressed, listening to what the man had to say

“I’ve been there a total of three times, and you pretty much only run into Water typed Pokemon.” Airik listened and realised he wasn't quite sure if he had caught his new rangers name. Not that it mattered Airik had already decided he would be heading out of the park after this capture so the new ranger was just there to oversee the final stages of this capture.

The Leaves dissipated and Tangela was still standing although Barely.

Airik didn't realise how close he was cutting it with his aggressive approach usually he favoured a more conservative stance longer battles waiting for his opponent to make a mistake Shiftry however did not appreciate that kind of battle, in fact it preferred a fast paced aggressive style and despite it being not normal for Airik it was what got the best results out of Shiftry. Tangela was weak now and in fact probably should of fainted from that last attack it was impressive the amount of staying power that the creature had, Airik knew that Tangela would be a great addition to his collection.

“You are really lucky, that Tangela should have fainted. You’re going to have to have to attempt a capture soon because it can’t take another attack.” Airik's ranger was saying this while Airik was planning out his next move.

"I know" Airik said "Shiftry must of held back and not unleashed that attack with as much power as it normally would have." Airik knew that although not a true psychic pokemon that Shiftry had some minor talents and could always sense what Airik wanted in part due to there strong bond as trainer and pokemon. "Shiftry knows I want to capture this Tangela, his clever enough to fine tune his abilities to leave me with just the opportunity I need." Airik said this with some confidence despite having no scientific evidence to back his claim. Usually making such wide and frankly unproven statements would bother him but not when it came to Shiftry who had many times over pulled Airik out of the proverbial fire.

"Shiftry, Use Synthesis Regain some health and then Retreat" Airik said reaching into his bag desperately pushing items around until he had found what he was after, Another park ball Airik pushed the button on the middle of the ball and it essentially Quadrupled in size. Airik knew that now was the right time to act, Tangela was weak and couldn't sustain another hit so Airik needed to capture it now or he would have to stall it out until it grew tired.

Throwing the Parkball underarm Airik aimed in the hope that the ball would land and just roll towards Tangela's bright red shoe like feet.

ooc: I think you have my item list wrong by my count I should have 4 parkballs, 3 super Balls and 2 Hyper Balls but I could be mistaken

“I know,” Airik said, relieved with the result. “Shiftry must of held back and not unleashed that attack with as much power as it normally would have,” he continued. “Shiftry knows I want to capture this Tangela, he is clever enough to fine tune his abilities to leave me with just the opportunity I need.”

He turned to the battle and ran an eye over, gathering information to prepare for his next round of attacks.

“Shiftry, use Synthesis, regain some health, and then retreat.” Airik reached for his bag and began to rummage around in it while the Shiftry prepared to use Synthesis. Synthesis exposed his hands to the sun as the began to glow yellow, drawing in the sun’s energy to heal himself.

The Tangela tried rising to its feet, but the Pokemon was clearly too tired to even try the attempt. It collapsed back to the ground a moment later, panting heavily. Airik finally located what he was looking for and with a cry he snatched up a Park Ball. He enlarged the green ball and tossed it at Tangela.

Tangela lifted a vine and slapped at the oncoming Park Ball, sending it back to Airik before it could activate. The vine receded and dug into the ground instead, where it started to absorb nutrients from the soil, and in the process healing the Tangela.

Shiftry was going to get called back by Airik, but when it saw that the capture attempt had failed it stayed out, ready to continue the fight.

Airik watched the path of the ball as it travelled towards Tangela and then it happened Tangela reached out with one of its many vines and batted it back towards Airik. Shiftry who had moved out of the way to allow Airik to capture Tangela jumped back into the fight and took up a position between Airik and the Vine Pokemon so as to protect Airik from any potential harm that this Tangela could do.

"It's ok" Airik said to Shiftry, before turning his attention to Tangela.

Airik walked over the the Vine pokemon full of confidence, rummaging in his bag he managed to find what he was looking for it was a small yellow packet with the name Nutri-Grow on the side. Approaching where Tangela had dug a vine into the ground Airik split the bag and poured the contents of the packet onto the ground before proceeding to work it into the top soil with his hands.

"There you go, if your going to eat you might as well eat something good for you" Airik said

Pokemon where weird many had dual digestive systems able to absorb nutrients from the ground like a plant and then convert sunlight into energy using photosynthesis as well as having a digestive tract more similar to humans it was often an odd mix.

"Don't worry" Airik said to no one in particular just hoping the sound of his voice might soothe the Tangela "It's just a mixture of nutrients to enrich the soil and hopefully make you feel better sooner". Airik put the empty packet in his bag, you needed to be careful around pokemon some of them would try and eat anything given the chance.

Shiftry began to tense up, he wasn't a fan of the nice friendly approach that Airik sometimes adopted, his whole posture was stiff and taught like a bow string about to snap. In fairness most of that anxiety was over his trainers well being Tangela was after all still a wild pokemon even if being in a habitat such as the Botanical gardens made it so that Tangela was used to regular human contact.

Airik began to slowly proceed even closer towards the Tangela "Ok my little friend" Airik said while sitting on the ground next to the creature "You and I need to talk, You have battled exceptionally well and your tenacity is impressive and something I whole heartedly admire." Airik was hoping to get the Tangela even more on side with that bit.

"But the reality of the situation is that Shiftry has healed up nearly to full and you are still very wounded right now" Airik used wounded as opposed to weak because he wanted to try and avoid insulting the Vine pokemon "If you want to battle some more we can, I don't mind if that's what we do but if that happens Shiftry is at an advantage now after healing and well despite your tenacity the odds are not in your favour my small friend, so why don't we forego the rest of this nonsense and you come back with me"

Airik reached into his bag and pulled out another Park ball, he would retrieve the other one after Tangela was captured. The Park ball layed still in Airik's hand "If you want to come home with me now and stop this, you know what to do" Airik said while motioning with his head towards the currently dormant park ball

@Airik - leaving after this capture?
    Ranger: Gaius Tyrannius
    Trainer: Airik Taloran Stormgrad
    Area: Botanic Gardens
    NBP #1

To my surprise, Airik pulled out a small pack of plant food from his bag, walked over to the Tangela, and dumped the material on the soil around it.

“There you go, if you’re going to eat, you might as well eat something good for you,” Airik said, walking away from the Tangela. Airik returned to his original spot and said something to himself that I didn’t quite catch, probably something about the stuff he had dropped on the ground.

He exchanged a few words with his Shiftry before walking back over to the Tangela. I never liked trainers going near wild Pokemon, but there was no real reason to stop him. Just in case something might happen and reached for a Pokeball and called out my Alakazam. Alakazam was a species known for its high special attack and Psychic prowess, and if the Tangela decided to lash out he could both stop the attack and get Airik out of the way.

Luckily, nothing came out of the encounter. Airik said a few words to the Grass Pokemon and pulled another a Pokedoll from his bag. He touched the device to Tangela and the Pokemon was absorbed up in it.

The ball wiggled briefly before settling. I walked over and grabbed the caught Pokemon, dropping it in my bag as I turned to Airik. “Nice job, you almost let that one get away, but you managed to salvage it. You want to leave with these three and see what else awaits you?”

The Tangela was absorbed into the parkball and then it wiggled a few times before coming to rest, Airik had managed to Catch this Tangela.

“Nice job, you almost let that one get away, but you managed to salvage it. You want to leave with these three and see what else awaits you?” Airik heard the ranger say

"Well thank you, I think" Airik said while pondering the rangers question. "I believe I want to take these and head home now if that is acceptable" Airik looked towards the ranger

Rather pleased with himself another 3 pokemon caught all of them grass type and all of them ones he wanted to find on this his first run into the park.
