"Mozart." She grinned. "What a good name for a musical pokemon!" Serenity was happy that her current trainer was happy. Checking to make sure that the black thing was still there, she pointed it out.
"Over there." The ranger spoke a bit loudly and it crawled out of the bush it had been hiding in.

The small black creature bore golden circles on it's fur. One on each ear, on it's tail, and a couple other places.
"Umb. Breon." It said, curious about the humans. Flicking it's tail gently as many cat-pokemon do, it licked it's paw and wiped it on it's face a couple of times.

"Oh, it's an Umbreon. I couldn't quite tell before." She whispered. "Anyways, what do you want to do with it?"

Ace stared at it in awe, and pulled a PokeBall out.

"Evelyn, go!" He cried. With a flash of light and stars, his Flareon formed on the field.
"Flare!" She exclaimed, and ran towards the other Eeveelution. The two began playing with each other, and Ace felt warm in his heart.

He reached into his bag and pulled a camera out.
"Finally, a chance to take a picture!" He said, and clicked the button as it was focused on Umbreon

 

NBP

"Click" went the camera as Ethan successfully captured a lovely moment of his pokemon and the wild pokemon playing happily.
The eeveelutions ran around playfully for another minute, but the Umbreon had things to do apparently. It raised it's paw as if to say farewell and scampered off in the direction of a tiny opening in the valley wall.

Serenity scoped the area, making note of a cluster of trees, a cave entrance, and more. Finally she settled on a large group of rocks not too far away. Before they got there however, they were interupted by an angry looking pokemon.

"Grrr. Ump. Grrrumpig." It growled. The pokemon however, looked a smidge too silly to be all that menacing. That certainly did not stop it from trying though.

Evelyn was said about her friend leaving, and looked over at Ace for support. She heard a noise, and squealed as the Grumpig came out, and ran behind Ace's leg in fright. He was too busy laughing at the picture of Umbreon and Evelyn. But then he heard a grunt, and looked up in shock.

"Oh cool!" Ace cried, and nervously raised his camera up and clicked the button.

The sudden flash of bright light from Ethan's camera startled the black and purple pokemon.
"PIIIIIIIIIG!!!" It squealed and romped off. Serenity giggled and spoke. "Well, that wasn't a very good tough guy act, now was it." She smiled and resumed heading towards the pile of rocks.

There were stones of all shapes and sizes. Some as tall as Sapphire, others were barely even fit to be called a pebble.
"Sooooolroooooock." Something hummed. Out from behind one of the larger rocks came an orange pokemon that slightly resembled the common way of dipicting the sun.

Ace blushed slightly at Serenity's comments.
"Well, I wanted the picture!" He replied in defence, and chuckled. He walked forwards with Evelyn by his side, and froze as the magnificent Solrock rose out from behind the rocks.
"Oh my goodness!" Ace gasped, and stared in awe at the magnificent rock and psychic type. "It is a truly magnificent Pokemon!" The Solrock looked at them, and Ace beamed.

"Evelyn, do you think you are up to taking on Solrock?" He asked. The Flareon looked up at him, her eyes looking a bit wet.
"Oh, do you mess Umbreon?"
"Flare." Evelyn replied, and burrowed her head into his foot.
"Awww, I'm sorry, I should have noticed." Ace apologised, and hugged her big fluffy fur. "Why don't we give this Solrock a try, see if we can master it, and then I'll treat you well, alright?"
"Flareon Flare." Evelyn agreed, and she sniffed and walked forwards.

"Brilliant!" Ace boomed, as Evelyn stepped over some rocks and stood near Solrock. "Shadow Ball to start with!"
"FLARE!" Evelyn boomed, and black and purple energy rose out of her mouth. The purple energy swirled together into a tight ball, while the black energy wrapped around it, turning into a large ball of ghostly power.
"EON!" She finished, and the ball zoomed forwards towards Solrock.

 

BP

"I meant the Grumpig didn't have a very good tough guy act. All bark and no bite." She placed her hands on her hips. As he spoke to Evelyn, she wondered why on earth he would use a fire type against a rock type. It simply didn't make any sense to her. Just as she was about to say something, it was made clear.

The Flareon began creating a purple ball, which was presumably a Shadow Ball. Once released, it rushed towards the rock pokemon at full speed. To everyone's dismay, the hit was not dead on. A substantial amount of damage was done, and the Solrock's bottommost point was chipped.

Flying up to a pile of stones, it rammed itself into the top, sending a fair bit of them tumbling and rolling down towards the fire eeveelution.

"Ah, I see." Ace said, nodding. "Well, I know a way to get a Spoink, so I would rather have a cute little piggy to train instead of a big old wannabe tough guy!" He laughed. Then, he watched the battle. The rocks Solrock sent flying looked sharp and deadly, and Ace felt rather bad for his poor little Evelyn.

"Hang in there, and don't let that mean old Solrock try and bring you down!" Ace yelled. He pondered about what to do next. Shadow Ball was the most effective move he could use at the moment, as Major Yu needed some time to rest following his dramatic battle against Chingling. Ace pondered over that battle, and some of the strategies he had used to win. Sometimes, unconventional additions to moves were the easiest ways to win these sorts of battles. And it looked like Ace would have to try one again!

"Alright Evelyn, I want you to run forwards as you use Shadow Ball. Then, before you fire, jump up, and try and get up to the same level as that levitating Solrock!"
"Flareon Flare Flare!" Evelyn beamed, and she began to run forwards. Purple and black energy came out of her mouth, and formed into the spherical shape agai.
"EON!" She cried, and bent her little legs and jumped. As she got higher into the air, Evelyn fired the Shadow Ball, and watched it go towards Solrock.

 

BP

The small fire type took a great leap over the rolling stones (lol), but it was not quite good enough. She tripped on one and slid back down the pile, hoping that her Shadow Ball still hit. Evelyn was slightly bruised, and her fur somewhat ruffled, but still in good condition. The Flareon shook her tail, which smoothed it's fluff out nicely.

This one made a more direct hit with the Solrock. Instead of merely chipping it's point, this time the Shadow Ball carreened into it's side. Hit at just the right angle, the Rock was sent spinning and it thus lost it's balance as well, and plummetted to the bottom of the other side of the heap.

Ace watched as Evelyn fell, and he gasped in shock as his starter began to plummet towards the rocks.
"Hang in there!" Ace cried. Evelyn clattered into the pile of rocks, but managed to fire the Shadow Ball just in time, and was able to cause Solrock to spin and fall over.
"Are you alright?" Ace asked Evelyn.
"Flareon Flare." She replied, and ruffled her fur, managing to smooth out her tail.

Ace stared at Evelyn, and thought about his other Pokemon. Asides from Evelyn, there was Kashin the mighty Donphan, Aquarius the powerful Poliwrath, Arabella the smooth Arbok, and Vinnie the cheerful Tangrowth. These were his original Pokemon, but his team had grown over time.

There was now Zapster the electrifying Electrode, High-Fly the inquistive Flygon, Rockster the tough Cloyster, Draconia the playful Garchomp, Blackgold the monstorous Charizard, Aphrodite the sparky Ampharos, Terry the huge Torterra, Equinox the Dustox he had gotten on his last trip, Nitelite the cute Dragonite, Soprano the lucky Honchkrow, Dracula the poisonous Crobat, King William the great Nidoking, Lizzie the Second his graceful Nidoqueen, Princess the helpful Togekiss, and Rafflesia, his new Ivysaur. And, of course, Starlight and Major Yu.

A lot of these Pokemon would have been more useful on this trip, due to their strengths against the psychic, ghost and dark types he was likely to encounter. Ace needed to remember this for next time, as he didn't want to see Evelyn, his original and probably his favourite, get damaged severely like this again.

But now Ace needed to think about what moves to use next. Evelyn knew Tail Whip, Tackle, Helping Hand, Sand Attack, Growl, Ember, Quick Attack, Bite, Baton Pass, Fire Spin, Leer, Rage, Focus Energy, Fire Fang, Take Down, Last Resort, Smog, Trump Card, Flamethrower, Scary Face, Fire Blast and Lava Plume, as well as Shadow Ball. But Shadow Ball and Bite were about the only useful moves left. Ac pondered about what to do. He needed to make sure Solrock couldn't cause a lot of damage, but this barrier was in the way.

"THAT'S IT!" Ace exclaimed. "We need to make this barrier disappear, so I want you to summon up all of you fire energy into one Fire Blast, and blast these rocks aside, and hopefully some of the fire will hit Solrock!"

"Flare!" Evelyn said happily, and she stared at the rocks. A ball of orange, red and yellow fire formed in her mouth, and slowly grew bigger. Once it could no longer be contained, the Flareon spat it out.
"EON!" She wailed, as the ball flew out. It expanded and spiralled out, turning into a large, flaming Japanese character. It headed for the rocks, and hopefully for Solrock.

 

BP

Fire Blast was executed perfectly, and it was beautiful enough to be in a Contest.The giant flaming kanji hit the rocks point blank. However, the attack was not enough to diminish the great heap into rubble; nor did a single ember reach the pokemon. It’s towering height was substantially weakened though. Some of the displaced stones ended up falling on to Solrock and buried it beneath them.

Upon seeing the firey mark fly through the air, Serenity got rather excited. The ranger jumped up and down gleefully, cheering for the Flareon. Her large upper regions also became quite bouncy. “That was awesome, Evelyn!” She grinned widely, long red-brown hair flying all over the place.

A moment passed, and one could hear the muffled calls of the living rock.
“Soooooollll.” It hummed, forcing it’s way out of the pile that had engulfed it. Lifting itself out and above the boulders and pebbles.

Evelyn smiled widely as she stared over at the pile of rubble lying there: she had succesfully gotten rid of a lot of the rocks, and now it would be easier for her to get over them and get to Solrock.
"Brilliant Evelyn, absolutely fantastic!" Ace boomed, and heard Serenity shout out a compliment as well. Evelyn blushed, but then heard a noise. She had managed to bury Solrock, but now the psychic type was rising up from beneath these rocks, much like a zombie rising from up from a grave.

"Damnit!" Ace snapped.
"Flareon Flare!" Flareon cursed, and Ace chuckled as his Flareon's anger.
"What should I do next?" Ace pondered, and stared at the Solrock. "If I use Shadow Ball again, there is a chance that it won't be as effective. What I really need is some of Major Yu's dark type moves, as then he will get a special boost from using them, making them more powerful!"
"Eon Flare." Evelyn agreed, and stared up at Solrock, and then began walking towards Ace.

"WAIT!" Ace cried, and smiled to himself. "I have an idea!"
"Flare?" Evelyn asked.
"I want you to run forwards, over those rocks, and get underneath Solrock. Once you do, you need to lie on your back, and then use your tail to spin you around. Then, fire a powerful Fire Spin!" Evelyn looked a bit confused, but Ace needed her to do it.
"Fire Spin will continuosuly hurt Solrock, and the fire tornado could be handy for my next attack."
"Flareon Eon." Evelyn nodded, and she began to run forwards.

Her feet got sore running on the sharp rocks, but she could easily ignore the pain. Once she had leapt across several large, brown boulders, Evelyn was only a few feet away from the sun-like Pokemon. Smiling, she dived underneath, and landed in a clear section made by Solrock's spikes when it had landed.
"NOW!" Ace yelled. Evelyn lay on her back, and then used her large tail as a paddle, pushing off from a rock and beginning to spin. Solrock was right overhead, and Evelyn grinned as a ball of fire formed in her mouth.
"FLAREEEEEEEEEEOOOOONNNN!" Suddenly, a tornado of flames came out, heading directly for the sun Pokemon.

 

BP

A swirling jet of flames raced towards the Solrock. "Soooooool." It hummed. The pokemon made an effort to get away, quickly levitating itself to the right. Solrock nearly made it, but ended up getting half of it's body caught in the blast. The fact that it was a rock type though, didn't end up causing much damage.

However, it was caught in a small vortex. Meanwhile, the little fire-type briefly looked down at her paws. Much more romping around on those rocks and her feet would begin to bleed. Flareon feet simply weren't built to be running and climbing on sharp rocks. Evelyn sighed and waited for further instruction.

Serenity had plopped herself down on the ground in a very unlady-like position. Although she only did so after thoroughly inspecting the patch of grass. Standing was tiresome, and she was still sore from the previous day. The girl moved her neck from one side to the other and rolled her shoulders, worried about the eeveelution.

Ace watched as Solrock began to rise up, trying to escape. But, thankfully, the very top of the Fire Spin caught onto its bottom, still managing some damage.
"Excellent!" Ace boomed happily, as flames began to encircle Solrock, trapping it inside the attack. "Great work on that one Evelyn, I am very pleased with your- Evelyn?" The Flareon had collapsed onto the ground. Ace gasped and ran forwards. He ignored the pain on the sharp rocks, digging into his feet, and managed to hop from one rock to the next successfully, until he could feel the heat coming from Fire Spin as he reached Evelyn.

"Are you alright?" He asked. Thankfully, Evelyn hadn't collapsed into unconsciousness: her feet were just too sore for her to stand on.
"Flareon Flare." Evelyn explained, and tried to get up, but collapsed again.
"No, don't try!" Ace said, and pulled a PokeBall out. "You are going back into your PokeBall, no argument!"
"Eon Flare!" Evelyn protested, and tried standing up again, but titled forwards into Ace's lap. She sighed, and looked up at him and nodded.
"Good girl." Ace said happily, and gave her a hug. He pulled out her PokeBall, and with a flash of light, Evelyn was sucked back in.

"Now, go Major Yu!" Ace boomed, and threw the ball. With a dramatic flash of light and stars, the wine red Drapion formed into the space Evelyn had been in.
"DRAPION!" He roared at Solrock, who was still hovering above. Ace thought about what moves Major Yu could use: Bite, Poison Sting, Leer, Pin Missile, Acupressure, Knock Off, Scary Face, Toxic Spikes, Poison Fang, Crunch, Cross Poison, Bug Bite, Thunder Fang, Ice Fang, Fire Fang, and the tutored move of X-Scissor. The poison moves wouldn't be very good, and neither would the "fang" based moves. That left Bite, Pin Missile, Crunch, Bug Bite and X-Scissor.
"Hmm.... I want you to start with Pin Missile!" Ace boomed.

Major Yu nodded, and raised his arms up. They were very long, and were able to get on either side of Solrock. His claws glowed light green, and Major Yu smiled.
"DRAP-IIIIII-OOON!" He boomed, and fired. Green missiles were shot out, heading straight for the sun like rock.

 

BP

Serenity watched with intrest as the tired fire type was switched out for Major Yu. He had gotten some rest since his battle with the Chingling, but the Drapion still had only half his strength remaining. During the exchange, the Solrock was hard at work; swaying to and fro, trying to escape from the engulfing flames.

That was soon interupted however, by the mini-missiles speeding towards the Meteorite. Unable to dodge, it used Harden. The Solrock's body briefly turned white and metallic, hardening it's stone composition. In theory, this would help it get through the attack. Solrock began charging head-first (despite it's lack of head) towards the attacking pokemon.

Making full use of Tackle and the durability increase from Harden, it took the damaged and slammed into Major Yu. Thus attacked by the flames of it's partner. Both pokemon took about equal injuries from the endevor, and clearly the battle was far from over.

Ace was glad that the Pin Missiles had hit, and had caused some obvious damage to Solrock, but gasped as the Pokemon than used two moves: Harden and Tackle! And it used Fire Spin to pass damage onto Major Yu!
"Drapion Drap Drap!" He moaned, and began puffing powerfully.
"How can that be allowed?" Ace yelled. "That rock can't use two moves after the other, and Fire Spin should only affect itself, not Major Yu!"
"Drap!" The Drapion agreed.

Ace pondered what to do next: he was getting very low on health with two thirds of his team, and he didn't think Major Yu would be able to last much longer, especially if Solrock kept defying the laws of the Pokemon universe! Ace thought back to some of the other moves Drapion was capable of learning: again, there were very few moves that could actually cause damage to Solrock. But, with its health getting lower and lower, one too-powerful move could end up causing an unnecessary faint, and making this whole process useless!

Ace remembered what he had done with Chingling: Scary Face had been able to lower the singing Pokemon's attack. Ace could definitely use that again, but he also had to protect Major Yu against some of Solrock's powerful attacks.

"Acupressure!" Ace boomed happily, and Major Yu looked at him. "I want you to fire another Scary Face at Solrock, but than use Acupressure!" Major Yu nodded, making his arms shake, and turned back towards the Solrock.
"Drapion Drap!" He hissed, and his mouth and eyes glowed red. Beams shot out of them, like they had done before, and were zapped straight towards Solrock. Than, both of Major Yu's claws began to glow black. He raised his arms up, bent them around, and jabbed both of them into his spine. Ace crossed his fingers, hoping that the attack hit and raised a good stat

 

BP

"Yesterday I met a pokemon that would use three, four, sometimes five moves at once. That's nothing." She grinned cheekily. Serenity found Ace's confusion at the Solrock's creativity quite amusing. "It makes sense to me; it's like 'stop, drop, and roll'" Double battles had the potential to offer even more possible combonations.

The red beams hit the nail on the head. As the Solrock stood paralyzed with fear, and with it's overall speed diminished, Major Yu was just the opposite. He felt himself getting lighter on his feet, and thus significantly faster. With his speed raised, and his opponent's swiftness lowered, the diference should be great.

Once the Meteorite pokemon snapped itself out of it's shock, it fired a jet of flames at the Drapion. It was time to fight fire with fire. Although the Fire Spin hit, he was not trapped in a firey vortex, much to both human's relief.

"Don't you even think about giving up! Otherwise all your pokemon's effort will have been for nothing!"

Ace watched as the beams managed to hit, causing Solrock to suddenly slow down, and then Major Yu began to speed up thanks to Acupressure! But this didn't stop Solrock firing a blast of fire, causing Major Yu to roar and cover his face.
"I am not going to back down from this!" Ace told Serenity as she cried out to him. "I have been doing this for too long, and I do not think that giving up now, after how long this battle has taken, will be a sensible idea! I need to end this battle, so that Major Yu and I will be able to celebrate, along with Evelyn and Starlight!" Major Yu nodded in agreement, and shook the flames off of himself.

Ace began to evaluate the area, wondering what to do next. Solrock was now going to be much slower, while Major Yu was now much faster. Somehow, he had to be able to factor in these changes in stats so that he could weaken Solrock as much as possible. Major Yu had to be able to use his speed boost to his advantage, and Ace smiled as he came up with what could be an effective idea.

"Ok Major Yu, here is what I want you to do!" Ace began to instruct. "I want you to start spinning your upper body really rapidly, so that your arms spin around! Then, I want you to fire both Toxic Spikes and Pin Missiles, but try not to mix them up: send Toxic Spikes to the ground and Pin Missiles towards Solrock!" Major Yu nodded, and planted himself firmly on the ground. He raised his arms up so they were straight like a ruler, and then began to spin. His claws were glowing different colours: some purple and some light green. Purple and green lines were forming around Major Yu, making a glowing circle. Suddenly, things began to fly out! Purple objects in the shape of triangles began to scatter across the ground, while lime green missiles flew into the sky. Ace hoped that the spikes were well scattered, and that the missiles managed to hit their target...

"I'm well aware of that. I was just double checking." She said after Ethan's long rant. This reminded her of how sometimes she could do the same thing. Serenity folded her arms and continued to watch the battle.

Poisonous spikes were soon strewn about the rocky battlefield. This way, the Solrock would need to be careful to not touch the ground. At the same time, the rock/psychic type was barraged by more Pin Missiles. They zoomed through the air in all directions, therefore nearly impossible to dodge. Out of the slew, two or maybe three reached their target.

With the blows, the Solrock was finding it challenging to stay afloat. It struggled to continue levitating as it took another hit from the Fire Spin. The vortex was losing strength though, and would not last much longer. Once the smoke cleared, it floated stationary, contemplating it's next move.

Ace sighed a little as the majority of the Pin Missiles soared past Solrock. However, the Toxic Spikes had all scattered over the ground, meaning that Solrock would be unable to get too close to the ground with get a bad case of poisoning.

"Alright then Major Yu, let's use the poison to our advantage!" Ace began, wanting to dive straight on into the battling. Major Yu looked ready to fight, and had his arms and legs poised, ready to take whatever came it's way.
"Firstly, I want you to surround yourself with the rocks. Just move yourselg into an appropriate place, and maybe build a sort of barrier up around yourself." Major Yu nodded, and his huge arms quickly went to work, grabbing nearby rocks and positioning them around himself. He was careful not to let around of the Toxic Spikes fall off, in case that was part of his trainer's plan. Within three minutes, there was a nice little mound of small boulders around Major Yu's body.

"Brilliant!" Ace boomed with delight. "Now, I want you to use another Scary Face and Acupressure combination!" The Drapion smiled gleefully, and his eyes, mouth and claws all lit up. The beams that made up Scary Face were fired towards Solrock, while Major Yu smashed his long arms into his back again.

(OOC: Can you have Solrock hit me with a psychic attack please? I may need it for an idea for the rest of this quest.)
