"Brr... It's getting cold, Venusaur. Remind me why we chose this route in the middle of winter. I don't like going to cold places in cold tempratures," Cenon whined as he reviewed the route he'd be taking for the event. It was the first time he noticed that he'd be going on a frozen lake first, then to a place where snow would probably accumulate, and finally to Mt. Oktori, where it's cold all year.

Summoning up his courage, Cenon stood up and declared, "Complaining won't get me anywhere! Come on, let's follow those who took the same route as us." Venusaur just gave a light nod, in response.

The trainer jumped across his Grass-type Pokemon and started to move. Once again, he held up the map of the whole island and pinpointed the gate leading to his first stop, the Great Lakes. "See that place, Venu? That's our first target and we need to go there, ASAP. Go!" Hopefully, his cheer would rub off to his Venusaur and make him recover for his apparent gloom.

Venusaur acknowledge his trainer's efforts and smiled. Without any further ado, the large reptilian Pokemon started to move, even with the cold hindering him. Even though the dock was full of people at the moment and Venusaur's large body stood out from the crowd, the two doesn't seem to take much attention. This would be their first step for whatever adventure they might have this day.

The two walked along the gate of the Great Lakes. Upon taking their first steps in their trip, a great change can be seen in the surroundings compared to what it looks whenever it isn't winter. Some lakes were frozen, which led Cenon wondering about the condition of the Pokemon living underneath those iced bodies of water.

"Boom, it's a Blastoise! A Blastoise!" Cenon squealed in delight as he saw the overly large turtle block their way. Sure it looks cool with its large size and the water cannons on its shell, but this event prohibits the trainers to capture whatever they encounter during their trip. Though unhappy with his situation, Cenon still followed the main objective of the event and stepped down from his Venusaur.

"Listen, Venu, I want a clean start. Start with a Sunny Day with a SolarBeam as a follow up, got it?" the trainer asked his Pokemon, in which the Venusaur nodded, before explaining more of his thoughts. "Do your best and try to get a clear shot."

Venusaur nodded as his trainer finished talking. A orange-colored orb, then, appeared on top of his large flower. Slowly, but surely, the small miniature sun that was formed begin to grow in size until the Grass-type releases it from his control. With the Sunny Day in the field, Venusaur wasted no time charging up his SolarBeam and carefully aimed at the enemy. As his trainer said, the Pokemon made sure that his attack would hit its target.

The battle begins to get more serious as it grows. Even though Venusaur had completely finished the said tasks properly, it's still not easy to tell that the Grass-type has the upper hand, even with the Type advantage. The Rapid Spin attack that the Shellfish Pokemon unleashed did gave considerable damage to Venusaur. It just shows that wild Pokemon still give a good challenge despite the odds they are faced.

Looking more closely at the battlefield, once can say that Sunny Day's effects are more than effective. Most of the snow around was starting to melt and the snow had stopped falling. As Cenon once read at the park guidelines, disturbing the ecosystem of the park could lead to some punishments. And now, Cenon started to think of ways to defeat Blastoise without the aid of Sunny Day.

"Uh, let's go defensive, Venu. Use Ingrain and absorb the remaining of the Sunny Day for a more powerful SolarBeam!"

Venusaur stomped at sunk his feet at the marshy shores of the Great Lakes. As he did, roots came out of his reptilian feet and absorbed the nutrients at the ground for his recovery. With that out of the way, Venusaur did his best to obtain more energy from the Sunny Day to the point that the small sun began fading. With the large amount of energy inside of him, Venusaur shot a powerful beam of solar energy to the Blastoise.

With Venusaur overly-powered SolarBeam hitting the Blastoise, the poor shellfish Pokemon just had to Withdraw into his shell to try to prevent anymore damage done to him. Unlucky for him, hiding in his shell would only prevent physical attacks to reach him. His situation would make him vulnerable to most special attacks, which makes him open from any of them.

"Quick, Venusaur! Attack him with Giga Drain!" Cenon told his Pokemon.

The large reptilian Pokemon concentrated on his target. Afterwards, the large red flower on its back gave off a green glow before beams of the same color extend from the flower and stick to Blastoise's shell. These slowly sap health from the Blastoise and transfer them to Venusaur. Although Blastoise's shell weaken their effect, they can still deliver an effective attack to the Water-type.

As Venusaur happily absorbs energy from the bullied Blastoise, the latter finally stood up and fought the one fighting it. With a fist encased in ice, Blastoise punched the Grass-type with a super effective move as it was busy draining away health from the shellfish Pokemon. This made him lose his concentration, thus freeing the Blastoise from the Giga Drain attack.

"Let's counterattack with a quick combination of Growth and Giga Drain!" Cenon shouted across the area. Blastoise was getting weak already, thus giving the trainer a signal that he's about to win the battle.

Venusaur, stuck in his place because of Ingrain, forcefully made himself grow bigger with Growth. He glowed white for a second,showing that the move had taken effect. With the sudden growth he obtained, he bumped the power of his Giga Drain that he would be using against Blastoise. Because the Water-type is near to his location, Venusaur's Giga Drain wouldn't take long before it reaches its target.

As Venusaur executed his last attack, the Blastoise decided that he couldn't take any more damage and ran away from the battlefield. "Are you alright?" Cenon asked his Venusaur before he noticed that the Blastoise left something strange. He took the effort of examining it and found a sack full of presents. Venusaur, too, got curious of the sack.

"Hey, let's move on! I've heard they've got certain prizes for those who finish first." Cenon got the sack and carried it with him on top of Venusaur. Upon reaching Venusaur's back and carefully placing their looted goods, he patted his Pokemon's head and told him, "Let's go."

They didn't took the time exploring and enjoying the view in their trip this time, probably because of Cenon thinking of this event as a race rather than helping the National Park. Before long, he reached the edge of the land. Bodies of water encased with thin ice blocked his way. "What now?"

As Venusaur and Cenon waited for something cool to happen, something cool happened. It was located at the Great Lakes, the same place as they are, in the middle of the lake they are near at and right in front of them. Out of the blue, a Mantine emerged from the dark waters, thus breaking the ice. As it leaped out of the water, it flew straight to the sky.

"Mantine's a part Water and Flying-type, right?" he asked Venusaur, whom he never waited to respond. "And Electric-type attacks do a lot of damage to them, right? Lanturn should do the trick."

He got down from Venusaur with the bag of presents he got earlier and returned the large reptile back to its Pokeball. As he returned his ball back to his pocket, he got Lanturn's and released her at the icy cold water. Since her specie is well adapted to the cold ocean depths, they might be also suited with waters of the same temperature.

"Since he's already sky high, try to hit him with thunder. Don't worry about hitting him hard, though. Mantine are known for their great Special Defense. When he comes down, hit him with Thunder Wave."

Lanturn nodded, though still unsure of using a powerful move against another Pokemon with a great weakness against it. She shrugged her ideas, though, because of her trainer's words. Nevertheless, she began summoning a large Thunder above the Mantine. Dark clouds formed and sparks flew across them. She charged a weaker electricity as she prepared for her attack to take place.

As the Thunder charges in the sky, it didn't apparently hit the Mantine. Either did the move miss or Lanturn decided the attack would cause too much damage to her opponent. She did successfully hit it with the Thunder Wave, paralyzing it and thus making flying in the air a hassle for it.

In the middle of the hail, in which the whole area has been suffering on, the Kite Pokemon managed to take advantage of it. Whilst in the sky, it collected the cold air from the hail around him and used it to unleash a devastating Blizzard to Lanturn. Even with paralysis, Mantine can apparently use such powerful attacks like Blizzard.

"Lanturn, try to get serious, please," he scolded. Apparently, Cenon still couldn't get his Lanturn's battling style. "If you don't want to damage him that badly, use Confuse Ray and try to follow it with Charge Beam."

Lanturn then threw a shadowy purple orb towards the sky and it was quickly followed up by Charge Beam. The Confuse Ray attack soon joined the Charge Beam, orbiting it as it flew high towards the flying Mantine. The two joint attacks are now aimed at the Kite Pokemon, whose paralyzed wings might not make it dodge this time.

Lanturn's Charge Beam had successfully hit Mantine. Though it was normally a weaker move compared to Thunder, it still did a considerable amount of damage to the Kite Pokemon. The Mantine tried to retaliate using Mirror Coat in hopes of hitting with more power but, due to Lanturn's Volt Absorb ability, did nothing but heal her.

"That's it, Lanturn. Try using Charge Beam again."

With that being said, Lanturn repeated the move she used earlier. One of the yellow orbs, the larger of the two specifically, began to charge electricity. This wasn't just any type of attack since it also has a chance to charge Lanturns other attacks. Once she has finished charging, she shot the beam from the orb towards the Mantine.

"Follow it up with Discharge this time!"

Nodding, Lanturn charged up blue electricity this time. As quick as she could, she released the electricity. Since Mantine is high in the sky, the Discharge attack was concentrated into a beam-like attack and was shot together with the Charge Beam.

It seems as Mantine was already desperate to make any damage to Lanturn because it has used on of the strongest moves it can possibly learn, Hyper Beam. True, it made some damage to Lanturn but surely, the damage it had dealt isn't going to be as powerful as the damage Lanturn can give on a turn that he would be vulnerable.

"Use this moment to attack it, Lanturn. Jump into the air using Agility and then smack into that Mantine using Spark."

Lanturn dove a bit under the cold water and sped up into the surface. Once she's face to face with the Mantine, sparks flew from her orb until it covered her body. Finally, she performed a tackle with her electrified body towards her foe.
