A pink flash moved outwards along Flash's body, and where the colour moved strength returned to its body. It then sent a purple blast of energy towards the Qwilfish, which even moved through the water like through the air. I heard a violent cracking sound when the attack made contact, and the Qwilfish finally decided to swim away.

"Good job Flash," I called, and I returned it to a Poke Ball. I then summoned out Specialle - she hand't had much time fighting yet. walking alongside the Ghost Pokemon through the blizzard, I found a small cream-coloured sack in the snow. I shrugged, and tied it to my pack before continuing one. I thought the ground was beginning to slope up, but I couldn't be sure.

I was right about moving on. The ground kept sloping upwards, and the snowstorm got even worse, up to the point where I couldn't see further than a metre in front of me. I was so busy trying to figure out where exactly we were that I didn't heed Specialle's call in time. I walked smack-bang into a cliff.

As I rubbed my face, I looked around. I wasn't entirely sure where we were, but chances were good we weren't in the Great Lakes any more. There were very few waterfalls there. My suspicions were further confirmed when a small Chingling fell down off the cliff into the snow beside us.

"Are you alright, little one?" I asked as I moved closer to help it up.

It looked up and snarled at me, a noise I had never heard a Chingling make before. Looks like the Pokemon here in Meteor Valley were acting crazy as well. I took a few steps back so that Specialle could fight easier. As I did so, the Chingling's head started to glow pink - it was probably statting up some how.

"Specialle, get in there with a Shadow Punch, nothing fancy!" I called out.

Specialle nodded, and she faded out of sight even faster than usual due to the raging blizzard. She'd sneak up on the Chingling and then reappear before punching it hard with a fist coated in pure blackness. Specialle was quite strong physically, and the move was one she knew by heart - it was her classic opener - so I didn't foresee any problems.

The Chingling turned around in the snow, trying to find Specialle. Suddenly, she reappeared beside it and smashed one of her fists across where the jaw would be on a human. The little Psychic Pokemon twirled through the air and landed in a snowdrift.

It quickly recovered, however, and fired a Shadow Ball at Specialle. Unfortunately, I wasn't quick enough to order a dodge, but luckily it didn't seem to do much damage.

"Alright Specialle, let's hit it with an Ice Punch! Draw on the cold of the blizzard to make the attack stronger!" I yelled.

Specialle began to close with the Chingling, hovering over the snow on the ground. As she moved snowflakes began to get caught in a vortex that twirled around her right fist, under she was dragging a mini-tornado behind her. The blue twister should be ready by the time she reached the Chingling. I didn't expect it to KO, but Specialle would finish up soon.

Specialle used all her considerable might to throw the tornado forwards, and it smashed into the Chingling. Instead of sending it flying, however, the little Pokemon got sucked inside and thrown into the air. It soared in an arc before landing on the snow hard. The landing caused a bit of snow to puff up into the air.

As the snow blew away, I saw that the Chingling was charging an electrical attack. It fired the blast at Specialle, but again it didn't seem to do much damage. I noted that even after the beam had been fired some sparks were crawling around on the Chingling's skin - some kind of residual energy?

Despite this, the Chingling was looking weak. Time for the finishing blow. "Use Shadow Sneak," I called out to Specialle. She nodded, and again faded into nothingness. Hopefully she would be able to strike hard and fast before the Chingling could respond.

The Chingling looked around worriedly, not quite sure where its opponent was. Suddenly, Specialle loomed out of the snowstorm and shouldered it in a snowdrift. Thankfully, it did not re-emerge.

"Great job," I said to her and she crooned happily in response. We moved onwards - now that we were in Meteor Valley I might be able to find some caves to take a break in - it'd be nice to get warm for fifteen minutes before resuming the search.

As I walked onwards, two strangely shaped snowflakes fell down onto my bag. Instead of melting or mushing, they hardened and then rolled inside through a partially closed zipper.

We continued walking on. I was keeping an eye out for Trainers and caves to take a break in. Finally, I saw a cave up ahead. I was extremely happy at the prospect of being able to warm up a bit, and then felt guilty about doing so. The guilt didn't stop me from moving faster towards the cave. However, there was a problem. When we were perhaps twenty metres from the cave, a Kadabra stepped out and called a challenge.

I turned to Specialle. "Let's finish this quick, use Shadow Punch but fuse it with Thunderpunch to add a little kick," I said to her.

She nodded and faded away. Soon the Kadabra would be punched repeatedly by invisible hands, and if I was lucky the sparks from the THunderpunch might even paralyze it.

The Kadabra looked around, confused. It had no idea where its opponent had disappeared to. It was considering attacking the human who had trespassed into its domain when the Dusknoir suddenly reappeared right in front of it and punched it hard in the face using a fist wreathed in black fire and electrical sparks. The blow knocked the Wild Pokemon backwards into the wall of the cliff. It picked itself up and held its hands out towards the interlopers.

I thought the Kadabra was about to fire a blast of some sort at Specialle, but instead a blue pane of energy swirled into existence in front of the Psychic Pokemon. I swore under my breath. It had just put up an Reflect, which protected against physical attacks. Unfortunately, Specialle's moveset was almost completely limited to physical attacks.

It then got worse. The Kadabra threw an electrical stream at my Dusknoir. The lightning passed easily through the Reflect - it didn't block special attacks. The Charge Beam hit Specialle, and I saw a yellow aura start glowing around our opponent. It's Special Attack had risen.

"Alright Specialle, you'll have to hit it hard with a mental attack," I called out, "use Night Shade on it! If that doesn't finish it off, follow up with a Shadow Sneak!"

The Night Shade technique created scary illusions and worked on the mind of the target, and as Kadabra was a Psychic type Pokemon Night Shade would be super effective. I expected it to scare the Kadabra off, but in case it didn't the Shadow Sneak should finish the job.

Specialle's eyes stared glowing bright red, and a black aura started emanating from her. It almost seemed like she was expanding, growing in size. I couldn't see anything else going on, but I knew that the Kadabra would be living in a nightmare at the moment. The only question was whether or not the Kadabra would be able to fight through the dreams.

It wasn't. It held its ground for half a minute, but then fled into the snowstorm, which meant we could now progress into the cave.

"Good job, Specialle," I said to her, "do you want a rest or are you good for one more fight?"

She shook her head, indicating that she wasn't ready to be returned yet. I smiled at her and we moved into the cave, out of the weather. Just inside was a pair of rickety camping chairs - someone had been here recently. Sitting on one of the chairs was a couple of vacuum-packed milk and cookies - perhaps they'd been left as a trail or something.
