"Might as well," He shrugged, "if it's something I don't want Ralts to take on then we can always leave whatever it is alone."

"Maybe..." I mumbled. Whatever this thing was, it sounded pretty big. We walked further down the path and came to see a huge Pokemon, about more than six times Ralts' size. A large bulky, ape Pokemon was lying in the field, slamming its fists into the ground which left small indentions in the ground. His fur was a darkish brown color that sort of matched the ground. His usually white colored collar of fur was the same color, it had been rolling in the ground for some reason.

    "Wanna battle it?" I asked.

We walked further down the path, until the path widened out into a field. A large whitish-brown ape Pokemon was laying in the middle of the field, casually bashing away away at the ground with it's huge fists. Each hit was accompanied by a dull thud and left a small crater.

I whistled. The Pokemon was truly massive.

    "Wanna battle it?" Leo asked.

"No way," I replied emphatically with a slash of my hand. "That thing is WAY bigger than Ralts and I don't have a type advantage against it. Better continue on."

I turned to look at the Slaking, which was still pounding away at the ground.

"Uhhh, how exactly do we get past it?" I asked.

"Hey, you," the secretary said, trying to get my attention. Tell Leo that his vacation request went through. He can go."

"Yeah, but Leo's out on a run right now," I replied, trying to escape having to leave my desk and my wonderful nap.

"Well, go get him," she said in a voice that was a mix between being irked and being sarcastic.

I sighed and got up from my desk, grabbed the file on my desk that contained Leo's request and walked to the teleportation platform.

"You should probably take over his run, too!" The secretary called out as I left the office.

"Thank you." I said sarcastically. "You are SO helpful."

I would have preferred to fly to the outpost, but my little Starly was too weak and too little to carry a fully-grown human like me. Luxray and I walked to the platform and I put in the code that would take me to Outpost #3.

In a matter of seconds, I was transported to a woody area. In the distance, I would see Leo and another trainer looking at a Slaking that was pounding on the ground. I smiled as I got closer to them.

"Leo," I said, panting. "Your request came through. You can go on vacation."

    I handed him the file.

"Thanks," he said. "Grand Lake Resort, here I come!" He said, as he handed me the file that contained the information for his current run.

I wish I could to go Grand Lake Resort, I thought as I looked through the file.

"So, you're Jathan, right?" I asked. "I'm Dee and I'll be your guide from here on out."

I extend my arm to shake hands with him.

    I shook Dee's hand.

"Great to meet you," I replied.

Ralts popped his head out of my backpack and chirruped a greeting.

"This is Ralts," I said by way of introduction. Ralts chirruped a greeting to the Ranger's Luxray, then retreated back into my backpack.

The Slaking continued idly pounding away at the ground.

"Yeah, like I was saying to my other Ranger, I'd really rather not try to tackle that, so let's move on," I said nervously.

I walked around the edge of the clearing, and back into the forest. The forest was a beautiful place at twilight. The red sky painted the trees unbelievable colours, and the muted tones made me feel like I was in another world.

Until I stepped in a damp puddle of mud.

    "Lovely," I groaned.

The trainer had decided not to battle the Slaking. I didn't blame him; however, because I knew that Slaking wasn't the best Pokemon to use in battle. The Slaking settled down and took a nap afterwards, which helped to prove my point. I saw that the trainer had stepped into some mud.

"It would be funny if that's not mud," I said jokingly, but I immediately stopped joking when I saw that the trainer was not amused.

We continued walking through the forest. I didn't see many Pokemon, but decided not to make a big deal of it. The trees started to grow closer together as we went deeper into the forest. Pretty soon, I was covering my nose from some vile scent in the air.

"I bet you can guess what that is," I said to Jathan.

A Skuntank came from behind a tree. It was munching on a berry.

"Do you want to battle this thing?" I asked Jathan, while still covering my nose.

We were now really deep into the forest. There were no paths whatsoever, and sometimes the trees formed walls that we couldn't pass through, necessitating detours. I wasn't really comfortable being this deep in the woods, especially at twilight, but I didn't say anything because I didn't want the Ranger to think I was a wuss.

Soon we all began smelling a vile stink. I didn't think much of it, marking it down as a random forest smell, but it got stronger and stronger and didn't go away.

"I bet you can guess what that is," Dee said to me.

Just as I was about to reply, a huge Skuntank stepped out from behind a tree. It was munching on something, and it watched us carefully with its beady little eyes.

I instinctively covered my nose and took a step back.

"Do you want to battle this thing?" Dee asked me.

"Nah," I replied. "Skuntank has a Dark typing, so Ralts would be helpless against it."

I began edging backwards, away from the Skuntank. I hoped it wouldn't pursue us.

Jathan decided that he didn't want to battle the Skuntank. I could understand his reasoning, as all he had to battle with was a Ralts. We both edged back to try and attempt to get away from the Pokémon; however, the Pokémon wouldn't be ignored. The more we eased back, the more the Pokémon eased towards us, until I realized that we weren't going to be able to dodge this encounter.

"I think you may have to battle it anyway," I said. The Pokémon came at us, with its claw oozing in poison. I wondered how such a Pokémon could survive with so much poison in their body, but I didn't have much time to think since the Pokémon came at us again, using the same attack. Unfortunately, I wasn't allowed to interfere unless the Pokémon posed a real danger to the trainer. I could, however, offer items in case of an emergency.

I pulled out a couple of doll that were shaped like cute little Pokémon. These dolls were designed to catch a wild Pokémon’s attention and direct it away from us if we needed to make a quick getaway.

“You’ve got two options,” I told Jathan. “Either battle Skuntank, or buy a Pokédoll.”

I felt rather odd making a trainer buy something to get out of trouble, but the park’s got to get its revenue from somewhere, right?

    OOC: How much is it?

The Skuntank advanced on us, grinning as it swung its poisonous claws at us. I knew it was trying to get me to battle, but there was no way I was going to let Ralts battle this monster.

Dee rummaged around in his pack and pulled out a PokeDoll. I recognised it because I had wanted to buy a few before entering the Park, but the Shop had been all sold out.

Dee told me that in order to get away from the Skuntank, I'd need to purchase the PokeDoll. I did so gladly: I gave Dee a wad of bills - I'd worry about the change in a bit. I then took the doll and placed it on the ground, continuing to back up.

When the Skuntank reached the doll, it smelled it, then took it in its' mouth and began chewing it.

I backed up a few more steps, then ran the way we had come.

    (Pokédoll is 500 Pokébucks.)

Jathan by no means wanted to battle the Skuntank, so he decided to buy a Pokédoll from me. Since he was in a rush, he handed me a big wad of cash and threw the Pokédoll at the Skuntank. Skuntank sniffed the doll a bit to see what it was. Then, he picked up the doll and walked off from us. I let out a deep sigh. I was glad to be able to pass by it and continue our excursion.

“Well, that’s that,” I said, handing Jathan the change from purchasing the doll. “You handed me a bit too much.” I said, motioning with my hand to emphasize my point. I checked through my backpack to see what was left. There were a couple of potions and 2 more Pokédolls left. These might come in handy, I thought. I zipped up my backpack.

We continued to walk through the woods. By this time, the trees had begun to widen out a bit. It was almost as if the trees had grown closer just for that encounter with Skuntank. The less density of the amount of trees in the area allowed for a little more light to come through. I was relieved that we were no longer in the dark. We began to see bug Pokémon all around now. There were Caterpie, Weedle and other bugs around. Everyone in a while, there was a Scyther; however, these Pokémon came and went so quickly that I was unable to bring them to my client’s attention.

Finally, a Wurmple edged up to us. It seemed to have taken a liking to the dead leaves scattered around the floor.

“There’s a Wurmple,” I said to Jathan, as the bug Pokémon started to nibble on some dead leaves. “Are you interested in catching one?”

I watched the little bug Pokemon chew on the leaves. It wasn't too big for Ralts to take on, and even though Ralts was at a type disadvantage, I had faith in him. He had so far taken down a Beedrill and a Lickilicky: he would do fine against this small worm-like creature.

"What do you think, Ralts?" I asked him.

He popped his head out of the backpack and chirruped confidently.

"I think I am interested," I said finally to Dee.

Ralts jumped out of the backpack and hovered down to the ground, where he stood in front of me, in-between myself and the worm.

"Okay, Ralts, that Wurmple could do some serious damage to you if you get hit by Bug Bite," I thought out loud. "Let's get some defenses up before you start attacking. Use Double Team to confuse it a bit, and Charm it to lower its' Attack power!"

Ralts chirruped, and he split into five copies, and they all rotated fast around the Wurmple. It looked up from its meal, and its little head swung around as it tried to watch all the Ralts at once.

When it was spinning, all five Ralts launched some little pink hearts at the Wurmple. They floated peacefully towards the Wurmple, and they popped with a wet kissing sound when near it.

(You can choose the Pokemon's gender. I rolled for a random nature, which can, of course, be changed when you claim it.)

    vs Wurmple BP1

Jathan decided that he indeed wanted to battle. He got started right away. Ralts jumped out of his backpack and hovered to the ground. It chirped happily as it prepared to battle.

"Let's get some defenses up before you start attacking. Use Double Team to confuse it a bit, and Charm it to lower its' Attack power!" His trainer commanded.

Ralts moved into battle. First it phased into five different copies of itself. I knew that only one of them was tangible and the others were mere shadows of the original Pokémon. Next, all five of the Ralts put on the cutest face you had ever seen. Even my guard dropped at the sight of it, and I wasn’t even battling. Needless to say, the attack affected Wurmple more than it affected me. The worm Pokémon looked around trying to figure out which Ralts was the real one.

After determining that it was impossible to tell which Ralts was real, Ralts decided to take a chance. She lunged forward at the Ralts directly in front of her, and was surprised when it missed. She set her aim upon another copy of Ralts and turn around. Perhaps, this one is real, she thought as she lunged forward towards the Ralts that was directly behind her, hoping that this one was the one she needed to attack.

OOC: I thought the Ranger chose the Nature, and that it was permanent. Oh well. And Male Wurmple, please :D

My plan had worked perfectly. Ralts had a few copies to distract and confuse the Wurmple, and anyway the Wurmple's attack power was drastically reduced. It was time to get some damage in before the Wurmple got a lucky strike.

I looked around the area, and saw a loosely-hanging branch only barely attached to a tree nearby. As I did so, the Wurmple lunged at a Ralts, but it passed straight through the copy, dissipating it.

It turned to attack another, but even I couldn't tell which Ralts was the real one. I just had to hope that Ralts knew what he was doing.

"Ralts, use Psychic to grab that branch and hit the Wurmple!" I ordered.

All four remaining Ralts glowed purple, and the branch snapped off the tree. They crooned, and suddenly the branch took off, spinning through the air as it flew towards the Wurmple.

    vs. Wurmple BP2

(I may be wrong. I just thought I read it somewhere, but I could have misunderstood it. Also, excuse my attack names. Since some attacks used in this RP aren't official attacks, I have to create names for them. :p)

Wurmple was about to attack another of the Ralts’s copies when suddenly he was hit from behind by a twig. He looked around frantically but saw nothing else around but the Ralts. He deduced that it was the Ralts using Psychic to throw twigs at him. This made him angrier. There had to be a way that he could get rid of the shadows and figure out the real one.

The Wurmple observed his surroundings. Since, they are in the grass, he could use somehow trap Ralts. There weren’t many attacks he could use, so he had to make the best of the he could with the attacks he had. The bug Pokémon shot a silky sticky string at all of the Ralts’ feet. The Ralts that were fake instantly vanished into thin air. The real Ralts, however, was trapped to the ground. The Pokémon tried his best to free himself from the traps that he’d gotten tangled in.

Wurmple decided to use this time to get a hit in before Ralts could recover. He rushed at the psychic Pokémon with all of his might and slammed his entire body into him, knocking the Pokémon off of the ground and free of the silky trap. With Ralts on the ground, Wurmple ran in the opposite direction to gain some distance from his opponent, then made a u-turn to tackle the Pokémon with even more force than last time.

OOC: Super Psychic Twig Toss 5 FTW!

The Wurmple shot a patch of sticky white goo at one of the Ralts copies. The goo stuck all over the ground, and the Ralts got stuck in it. Upon failing to move, it disappeared, indicating it was a clone.

The other two copies were moving too fast to dodge the sticky patch, so they too hit it and blurred into nonexistence.

Finally, the real Ralts got stuck in the patch. He struggled vainly to free his tiny legs, even as the Wurmple charged.

The Wurmple struck Ralts, hitting him on the side with its little horn. Instead of stopping, however, the Wurmple continued on, rushing around in a large circle. I realised what the Wurmple was doing: it was increasing its momentum so that the next Tackle attack was stronger.

Ralts continued to pull at the goo as I looked around for something that could help us. There were plenty more twigs and branches to throw, but they wouldn't stop the incoming attack. I had a backup plan to get Ralts out of the goop, but I wanted to keep that in reserve.

Thoughts of branches sparked my imagination. I noticed a stout tree on the opposite side of Ralts to the Wurmple. If Ralts could simply lift the Wurmple vertically at the last second using Psychic, the Wurmple would fly over Ralts and crash hard into the tree.

I relayed my plan to Ralts and hoped that it would would work.

    vs. Wurmple BP3

(That is an awesome attack! What do you call it? Also, you're close to reaching the MCR.)

Wurmple was coming in hard on Ralts. The little Pokémon struggled in vain to free his legs of the sticky goo that was sealing them to the ground. All seemed lost. It looked like the Wurmple was going to hit him when Jathan suddenly had an idea.

“Use Psychic at the last minute to knock Wurmple into the tree behind you!” He yelled to his Ralts.

The little Pokémon chirped at his trainer. That’s why he trusted his trainer, because he was full of good ideas. Ralts focused his full attention on the Wurmple. The pink Pokémon was coming at him fast. He just had to focus, wait for the last minute. He had to do it…now!

When Wurmple was just a few little critter steps away from Ralts, Ralts focused his Psychic attack on the Wurmple and flicked him straight up. From there, the laws of inertia took over and Wurmple was soon headed straight for the tree behind Ralts. The little Pokémon cheered, then took the time he had gained to try and free himself of the sticky goo.

Wurmple smashed head on into the tree and fell straight down to the ground on his back. It took a while to get up, but soon the Wurmple was back on his feet. He turned around and peered at the Ralts, who was still attempting to free himself of the goo.

While it’s still stuck, I can get a strong attack on it, the Pokémon thought. Wurmple was quite a bit of a distance away from Ralts so he had to run up to him to get a chance to attack. The worm Pokémon ran until he was considerably close to Ralts, and then lunged right at Ralts with the intent to bite him from behind…

“Watch out, Jathan,” I warned. “Wurmple is attempting to use Bug Bite. Think of something quick!”

Try and get out of this attack, Wurmple thought as he bared his fine teeth to sink into Ralts's back.

OOC: Lol, most of my attacks don't really have names. The only way Ralts can really attack is by using Psychic, so I like to vary how he uses it (sometimes as a direct attack like in the games, and sometimes by using its telekinetic properties like I have been). Also yeah, I tend to use the scenery a lot :D

Ralts' maneuver was perfect. The Wurmple had flown straight over him, and smashed into the tree.

However, my worst fear was now coming true. Wurmple was attempting a Bug Bite.

It was time to use my backup plan. I had hoped to stall it out a little longer and get some more damage done, but that wasn't going to happen. Besides, now I had an end-game plan. It was just a matter of getting the Wurmple's health down a bit more.

"Ralts, use Teleport to escape the String Shot!" I called. "Then try and confuse the Wurmple with Confusion!"

I hoped Ralts would be able to escape. Teleport was his specialty, but these battles had to be wearing him down.

    vs. Wurmple BP4

Wurmple was coming at Ralts even faster. His small teeth were completely exposed and he was ready to munch down on the little Feeling Pokémon. After seeing that the Pokémon couldn’t free himself of the goo that trapped him to the ground, Jathan decided to take another route.

“Ralts, use Teleport to escape the String Shot!" He told Ralts. “Then try and confuse the Wurmple with Confusion!"

Ralts nodded at his trainer. He trusted his trainer very much. He knew that he knew was he was doing. The Pokémon phased out, leaving only the small puddle of goo behind. Wurmple missed Ralts by a second, then after realizing that he had bitten nothing but air, came to a screeching halt. Ralts reappeared behind the Pokémon.

Wurmple turned around and looked at the little Pokémon. He rushed towards Ralts with his teeth once again bared. His small fangs were starting to show. Never in my life had I ever seen a bug Pokémon so determined to bite something. I watched as the Pokémon suddenly steered clear of the Ralts.

I looked over at Ralts and saw that he was glowing purple. He must have used Confusion just then. Wurmple stopped where he was. He didn’t know where he was going. He was confused. The Pokémon felt dizzy. He turned around to see where Ralts was. The Pokémon was standing there, except there were two copies of him moving around erratically.

What should my next move be? Wurmple thought to himself. He wanted to make sure both Pokémon were hit. He knew that the confusion was making him see two; he just had to be sure where Ralts really was. He fired multiple poison-tipped needles at Ralts.

Ralts had successfully escaped from the sticky patch of goo using Teleport, just like I had planned. Furthermore, by the way the Wurmple was moving erratically, he had Confused the Weedle as well.

Unfortunately, the Wurmple had taken the smart path and used a longe-range Poison Sting attack instead of getting close.

I didn't fear the Poison Sting itself - it was a weak attack, and since Wurmple wasn't even a Poison type Pokemon it would be weaker still. However, what I did fear was the possibility of Ralts being posioned by the attack.

I knew I had to think of a way for Ralts to escape, and fast. Like usual, when I was in trouble, the world slowed down as I absorbed all the facts and possibilities.

Ralts had just used Teleport, and even though it was his favourite move and he was really good at it, I didn't want to take the chance that using it again so soon would overtire the little creature.

Double Team was always a possibility, but I'd already used that, and the Wurmple might see through it. It might then follow up with an attack worse than Poison Sting.

The only other option left to me was Ralts' telekinetic abilities. I took a quick look around, and while there was another branch right above the Wurmple that would be easy to drop on it, that didn't help me. I needed a defensive move, not an offensive move.

That gave me an idea. Ralts had easy access to one of the most protective substances on the Earth - the earth itself.

"Ralts! Use Psychic to lift a barrier of earth upwards!" I called out. "And then, if you're not too tired, use Psychic on the Wurmple again!"

The little green-and-white creature's tiny gands glowed blue as he struggled to lift the earth upwards...

    vs. Wurmple BP5

The poisonous darts were coming at Ralts fast. He didn’t have any time to dodge them in a conventional way.

"Ralts! Use Psychic to lift a barrier of earth upwards! And then, if you're not too tired, use Psychic on the Wurmple again!" his trainer commanded.

Ralts nodded and immediately used Psychic on the ground. A big wall of earth formed a miniature wall, about the size of Ralts. All of the needles were Wurmple’s attacks reflected off of the wall and fall onto the ground.

The Pokémon went on to use Psychic to toss another twig at the Wurmple. Wurmple fell back. The twig was little, but so was Wurmple. The Pokémon landed onto a pile of dead leaves. Ralts breathed erratically as he struggled to catch his breath.

“Ralts is getting pretty tired,” I relayed to Jathan, stating the obvious.

Wurmple also noticed that Ralts was about ready to get some rest. The Pokémon started to charge straight at Ralts. Maybe it won’t be able to move, he thought while he ran. Dust from the ground was kicked up as Wurmple lunged for the Ralts who was on his knees trying to catch his breath.

    OOC: Earthbending rofl

My earth barrier idea had worked perfectly, and Ralts had even managed to get some more damage in on the Wurmple.

But that might have been his undoing. He was on his knees, panting heavily. His telekinetic powers were maxed out for now. I'd have to use the finisher plan now.

The finisher plan was a combination that Ralts and I had found out worked really well in capture battles. Once Ralts had done some damage and was feeling tired, he would use Hypnosis to put his opponent to sleep. Normally, Hypnosis was an unwieldy move, but seeing as the Wurmple was charging towards him, that wouldn't be a problem. And since Hypnosis required next to no physical movement, he should be able to pull it off.

Once his opponent was snoring, Ralts would then activate his Dream Eater mode. Dream Eater mode leeched health from the sleeping enemy, restoring his health and vitality at the same time as damaging his opponent. And if he managed to drain the opponent well, sometimes it would still be asleep when I attempted the capture, making it that much easier.

"Ralts! Use the finisher plan!" I called. I didn't bother explaining it because he had done it many times before and I didn't want the Wurmple knowing our plan.

Ralts waited until te last second, when the Wurmple was right in front of him. He then looked up at the Wurmple with glowing blue eyes.
