Mikey lost a pretty important speed tie near the beginning, letting Kabutops do some serious work, taking out everybody except Blaziken. Ttar set up sand that would KO Blaziken anyway, so Mikey's valiant attempt at a comeback was doomed from the beginning. Good game!

Challenger GrayMagic (Dragonite, Garchomp, Gengar, Weavile) vs. Driftveil City Gym Leader Taither (Mamoswine, Palossand, Garchomp, Gliscor)

Solid match that could've gone in very different directions given the numerous speed ties. Dragonite and Mamoswine swapped, but not before Mamoswine had the chance to set up Stealth Rocks against Gray's team. Garchomp got a Swords Dance up against Palossand which looked pretty threatening, but Taither's own Garchomp was able to take it down before it did too much damage. Gengar came in, Mega'd, and did its Destiny Bond shenanigans to take down Garchomp. At this point was 1v1 Weavile v. Gliscor, and we know how that goes. Good game!

Challenger GrayMagic (Dragonite, Cradily, Gengar, Weavile, ???) vs. Hearthome City Gym Leader Juliorain (Cofagrigus, Golurk, Alolan Marowak, Sableye, Aegislash)

Dragonite took out Cofagrigus, but Cofagrigus got off a Curse and set up Trick Room in the process. Golurk came in and cleaned up Nite but was scared out by the slower (faster) Cradily into Alola-wak. Marowak took out Cradily, getting pretty battered in the process. Gengar was very meddlesome especially with the threat of Red Card, so Sableye switched in, also with its own Red Card. Sableye Imprisoned and was looking like it'd be hard to deal with, but Weavile switched in and avoided the Prankster Taunt because I guess that's a thing in Gen 7 now. Both Red Cards activated but only brought in the two previous sends, so it was Gengar vs Golurk, which Gengar won due to speed. Gengar stuck around for a bit, chipping away at Sableye until it could KO, though it too had gotten pretty low in the process. At this point it was Aegislash against Gengar with a full-health Weavile and an unsent, and things weren't looking too good for Julio so he forfeited. Good game!

This FFA was all over the place, but it was pretty fun to ref! Gyarados was pretty much indestructible due to Marowak’s Lightningrod, which let them carry each other to victory. Togekiss used Metronome for the entire FFA and ended up with 3rd place too. Good game!
