I think looking for curators would be a good idea. I'm interested to see how this is going to work out, so I think it should open soon too.

Okay. The thread here has been edited to include only the questions, because other staff who may wish to take the test obviously shouldn't see all the answers. I still have a copy, contact me on AIM to get one so you can grade tests, although it's fairly subjective so it may not be necessary.

We don't even know the kind of activity this place will have. Waiting on more curators might not be necessary.

Awesomesauce. Monbrey since you're head of this section, you should post something in the staff board.

Nitro submitted a fantastic test and will be a Curator. I'll sort out giving him viewing rights to this development board and get an overall announcement put up for more Curators.

I have to write an official proposal to be posted in Staff, get general thoughts/suggestions pre-launch, then we're good to go assuming no-one has major objections.

In the pre-launch discussion, it was decided that we would not officially close the Art forum to any particular type of submission. However it should be noted that anything that doesn't fit one of the standard categories could potentially not be an eligible submission. This is pretty much on a case to case basis.

    Except memes. No. Just...

    No.

It's still really early in the process, but I get the feeling that the Art section makes it too easy for POkemon to be acquired. It undermines the story section in a way, because even a 10k story can take a few days to complete, but drawing for that Pokemon at an acceptable level can be managed by someone within half an hour basically.

And then, grading an Art submission is like a single paragraph or two, where as a Grade for a story is multiple paragraphs for a single criteria section (i.e. Plot, Grammar, etc). Plenty of thought went into this, I'm sure, but seeing it in action, idk I just feel doubtful about this and the way it is atm.

The grading for art may look easier, but I feel the lower tiers of story-writing are easier, all things considered. Simple stories are 5-10k character stories where you can probably get a Pokemon even if it's the first story you've written. Here, we have a 100 point system where you need to have at least some knowledge of shadows and shading techniques to earn a 35, especially bearing in mind art teaching most students usually goes less in-depth than teaching for English language and grammar. People could easily swarm the story section with stories for Simple and Easiest rank Pokemon and probably get them with more consistency than they could here, unless everyone turned out to be artists as a hobby or side-job.

I've seen the opposite to Siless - I see this forum as an easier way to get the lower tiers of Pokémon while harder to get to the higher tiers. The only thing holding the stories back is the backlog and the time taken to grade, while curators only really need 15 or 20 minutes maximum to pump out a decent grade.

Well, I can write for a Medium level mon in a half hour. @[email protected] That doesn't mean we should make it more difficult for everyone else.

It's a completely different method than writing, and for some it may be easier, and others it may be harder. Catching Simples here is probably a bit easier overall than writing for one, but if we raise the score I don't think anyone but Morru is going to be able to capture anything. xD Drawing is just generally more fun than writing.

Only thing I can think of to properly fix the easiness is to increase the amount of point scoring images. As in: Simple needs 2, Medium needs 3, Hard needs 4, etc... but, up to Monbrey.

And yeah, these "grades" should be paid virtually nothing. 1-5k is way too high, as I've said before. It takes 5 minutes to type up a paragraph; $500 is the absolute max any of these should be paid.

Drawing isn't always easier. For example, anybody that's played iSketch with me can tell that I'm horrible at drawing. I've been trying to draw a Magikarp, one of the easiest ranked pokemon available, and it's been harder drawing it than it would be writing for the fish.

It's mainly just situational as to how easy it is to obtain these pokemon. Morru is able to pump out creative and skillfully-drawn drawings and obtain pokemon frequently, yes, but there are also some people who can pump out stories even faster. Besides, we shouldn't be punishing people for having artistic talent. If anything, we should encourage them to draw more and to draw more complex things.
