Neither side got rolled a great team, but Mikey was up against some pretty rough checks. Each of Weir's 'mons that went out pulled their weight despite Weir missing multiple times on moves with 90% accuracy. Mikey forfeited after he realized that his Mimikyu didn't know Swords Dance and had no shot at pulling out the win.

Today I got to watch Stomping Tantrum’s secondary effect activate, and I think that’s beautiful. Both sides were switch-stalling pretty hard after Rayquaza came to the field and mega'd (read: for most of the battle), but Weir had to leave abruptly, putting a premature end to things.

There's only so much three Water-types can do against a Magnet-Rising, Dry Skin Electric-type. Minior didn't really get its chance to shine and things hit the fan when Heliolisk showed up. Heliolisk and Weavile did most of the work, dishing out some chops and zaps.

It was pretty even most of the time, but Weir's team was like 90% NUKEMs, so he had coverage for daaays. Some lategame plays from Garchomp and Froslass threatened to pull things back in Xali's favor, but the dice were not in his favor and he met a valiant end.

Gray Nine (Starmie, Bisharp, Mr. Mime, Electivire, Sylveon, Alakazam) vs Xali (Infernape, Galvantula, Salamence, Raichu, Electivire, ???)

This was a mostly even battle; a lot of well-timed switching, plus hazards for Gray to deal with, really gave Xali the edge here. Infernape's weirdly broad moveset didn't exactly hurt, either. Gray's fairies might have helped him out, but Sylveon's Pixilate got nixed right off the bat and Mime didn't end up in a position to lend one of its weird cartoon hands.

Xali wins and gets $5,000.

Jack (Dragonite, Togekiss, Sudowoodo, Sandslash, Ninjask, Alakazam) vs Xali (Jolteon, Heliolisk, Porygon-Z, Starmie, Gliscor, ???)

A lot of jostling around in this one. Sudowoodo put up a startlingly decent fight against Porygon-Z, but the mighty duck got set up and it took a moment for Jack to find an answer to it. After that, Ninjask managed to set up with Swords Dance, which seemed like it might be the pushback that Jack needed, but Gliscor put a stop to Ninjask pretty quickly and wrapped Alakazam up neatly afterward.

Xali wins and gets $5,000.
Jack loses and gets $2,500.
I get $4,000.

It was bugs for like half this dang battle. Ribombee got a Quiver Dance setup and then took three full 'mons apart on its own. Nubfrog and Gyarados with a Dragon Dance kept on slaying and secured the win for Weir.

Lopunny sweep? Lopunny sweep. Everyone's favorite combat rabbit got a Power-up Punch off on Jynx and that plus its natural coverage was all it needed to tear through Evan's team. Krookodile was there to finish it off and slam Magnezone down when Lopunny's reign of terror was finally ended.

Gray Nine (Probopass, Magcargo, Electivire, Sylveon, Alolan Ninetales, Super Gourgeist) vs weirlind120 (Scizor, Mamoswine, Salamence, Jolteon, ???, ???)

Gray rolled in a couple of unfortunate matchups; never bring a Magcargo to a Mamoswine fight or bring an Alolan Ninetales directly into a Scizor's Iron Head, kiddos. Gray tried some pretty elegant maneuvering and set Sylveon up for some sweeping, but lost that setup when Scizor forced it out; Ninetales ended up getting called in against Scizor here, killing off one of Gray's last valuable slots and nailing his coffin.

Gray forfeits and gets $2,500.
