As we followed the path, I felt a slight breeze ruffle my hair. My speed picked up, and as we turned a corner in the path a beautiful sight met my eyes. Light was shining through a craggy opening, and I could just see some shrubs or trees or something waving gently in the wind, beckoning me forward. I rushed forward, looking around around at the exit - everything looked structurally stable. Just before I could exit the caves, however, I heard a snarl and a small fox-like Pokemon jumped in my way. It was a Jolteon, just like my Cole. I immediately considered bringing out Smash, but I could tell that Dual was dying to fight.

"Alright buddy, you're up. Set up a Light Screen, then hit that Jolteon with a Low Sweep," I commanded.

Dual nodded and held his left arm out in front of him. A blue shield formed on his arm so he could use it like a bracer. He preferred having his screens physically attached to his body, which wasn't surprising considering he was a warrior Pokemon. As soon as the Light Screen was in place, he started running towards the Jolteon, preparing to perform a slide kick that was aimed at the Jolteon's legs. By wounding them, the Wild Pokemon's speed would drop, and Gallade would be in control of this battle.

Dual dropped to his side and slid towards the Jolteon, knocking into its feet and sending it falling over. Unfortunately, the Jolteon fell on top of Dual, and a huge blast of electricity suddenly filled the room. I jumped to the ground as a huge bolt zapped past me. I patted down my hair and found that a small part was on fire. I quickly put it out using my hands and looked back up to the battle. Dual was on his feet and staring at the Jolteon, keeping his centre of gravity low, waiting for orders.

"Dual, taunt that Jolteon so it can't pull off any funny stuff, then use Calm Mind," I commanded. "If you have time, fire off a Close Combat as well."

Dual raised his spine so he was standing up straight, and began to thump his chest arrogantly. He then gestured rudely towards Jolteon, and grabbed his crotch. I was pretty sure that the Jolteon took offense to this, because it started growling, but I couldn't be sure. I'd just have to wait and see what it did.

Dual finished showing off to the Jolteon and jumped back. His helmet and blades began to glow green again, and he held his Light Screen up in front of his face. The Jolteon was full-on growling now, enraged by Dual's Taunt. A purple sphere began to grow in front of the Electric-type, a Shadow Ball. I remembered when I had taught this move to Cole - my own Ghost-types had been invaluable during this process.

When the Shadow Ball was the size of a truck tire, the Jolteon launched it towards my Gallade. The attack exploded when it made contact with Dual's Light Screen, and he was blasted backwards. I hissed in sympathy - Ghost was one of the two types that severely hurt Dual. Thankfully, his special defenses were very good, so that one attack wouldn't be anywhere near enough to put him out of commission. The second he stopped sliding, he sprang forwards and threw a vicious punch at the Jolteon, striking it on the nose. He then roundhouse kicked it and slammed it up towards the ceiling before pushing his palm hard into the Jolteon, blasting it away. The little fox was thrown backwards, landing in a heap on the ground.

"Keep the pressure on, use your Hidden Power then finish up with Vacuum Wave!" I yelled.

Dual raised his hands to his helmet and started concentrating. Small pieces of rock detached from the ceiling and the walls to hover in front of him. His Hidden Power was Rock-type, which didn't come in handy often, but this was one of the rare times. He pushed outwards towards the Jolteon with both hands, and all the rocks flew towards the Electric-type, which hadn't yet got up off the ground.

The rocks crashed into the Jolteon, causing it to yelp out in pain. Dual then took a step forward and threw his right hand forward, blasting at the Electric-type with a pocket of suppressed air. The Jolteon was blasted backwards towards the tunnel, and it ran away yelping into the cave system.

"Well, that's that," I said confidently.

<Do you want to go back and check out the other parts of the cave system?> Dual asked me.

Nah, James just wanted me to locate a safe above-ground entry and make sure that it was stable, I replied, and seeing as it didn't fall apart when you used your Hidden Power I'd say that it was pretty stable. Nah, let's just get out of here and go report back to James - maybe we can avoid that scary woman if we go fast.

<You know, Ivy's not that bad. She's nice.>

If you say so, I replied nervously, rubbing my arms. I'll take your word for it.

Together, we headed towards the crack. I smiled as the sun's warmth touched my skin - as much as I'd enjoyed my time with Dual, I was pretty excited to get above ground again.
