    (OOC: Going West.)

The Thunder jumped along the stream and up the waterfall, reminding me of how salmon jumped up streams to return to their breeding grounds. The coursing electricity then jumped off the water and crashed into the Rufflet, shocking it into the air. It screeched unhappily at me and turned around, flying in the direction it had come. I was surprised - one strong attack was all it had taken to send the little bird running (figuratively speaking).

"Great job, Cole," I said happily.

The Jolteon barked and ran over to the riverbank. He came back holding a small plastic satchel of gummy worms. Again, I wanted to eat them, but I knew I shouldn't. I tucked them away inside the same pocket that the Candy Corn was in, and turned around, following the river backwards. It didn't take that long to return to the spot where the river fed the hole. I was able to remember the direction I had come, so I went in the opposite direction, hoping my luck would improve.

The new passage led to a smallish room that was roughly spherical in shape. However, the room was not empty. A Wartortle was waiting for us. As soon as it saw Cole and me, water began leeching up through the ground and into the bowl. The Water-type looked up at us, daring us to battle. I was all for that.

"Okay Cole, this battle will probably be harder than the last one," I said to him. "Start off with a Charge Beam, and then use a Discharge. If you get the raise, we might be able to scare it away quickly."

Cole nodded and sparks began to fall out of his fur again. Instead of a large torrent of electricity pouring towards the Wartortle, a thin yellow beam that looked more like plasma than electricty lanced towards the blue water Pokemon. Charge Beam usually raised the offensive power of the user - I'd need that raise in this battle.

    (OOC: Going North.)

The water rose higher around the Wartortle as the thin beam made contact with its shell. Electricity sparked throughout the water, and some of the offshoots jumped back to Cole, powering him up further. Unfortunately, the water had finished rising, and the Wartortle rode it over him, using a Surf attack. The water crashed around my poor Jolteon, but fortunately I jumped backwards and avoided getting wet. The last thing I needed was to get hypothermia down in these caves.

The good thing about the Surf attack was that it brought the Wild Pokemon closer. A blue field of energy, just like the Electrike's expanded outwards from Cole, striking the Wartortle and carrying it across to the other side of the room. The Wartortle sized us up and decided that discretion was the better part of valour. It fled down a tunnel, leaving behind another pack of Candy Corn. I picked it up and stashed it away with the other delicious treats.

"Thanks for that, Cole," I said to my Jolteon as I returned him to his PokeBall. I decided to try to cycle my Pokemon, so that they would all be mostly fresh if I needed a particular one in a hurry.

There were two tunnels I could go down. In the end, I decided to go down the same one that the Wartortle had - if I had to fight something off, I'd prefer it be a weakened water-type as opposed to something powerful at full strength.

(OOC: Assuming it dies (which I doubt it will), North please.)

I continued down the tunnel, keeping an eye out for the stricken Wartortle. It occurred to me that wounded animals were often more vicious than when they were healthy, so following the Wartortle might not have been the best idea. Still, I'd waste a lot of time if I turned back now, so I kept forging onwards, being mindful of every alcove and shadow where a Pokemon could be hiding.

Soon, I emerged in a medium-sized room with a very small pool of water in it. The pool of water was being fed by a trickle of a stream dripping down from a passageway. I decided that again, I would follow the water, seeing as it probably led up and out. The other one had, I just couldn't scale the cliff - hopefully I'd be luckier this time.

As I went to go down the passageway, I saw that a small Pokemon was in the pool of water, and that it was bristling angrily at me. I jumped back and took a second to decide what Pokemon to use. My first thought was of Cole - as an Electric-type, he could easily lay the smack-down on whatever aquatic Pokemon this was. However, he'd just been battling a lot, and he deserved a rest. I decided instead to go with my most powerful Pokemon. I dropped a PokeBall onto the ground and a white flash revealed my choice.

Dual greeted me with a chin-thrust. It took him all of two seconds to locate the Pokemon that was his opponent. Unfortunately, that still wasn't fast enough - the small aquatic Pokemon jetted out of the pool, intending to collide with the Gallade.

    "Bulk up, quickly!" I shouted.

Dual's main weakness was that his physical defense was lacking. Not only would Bulk Up increase his attack power so he could hit harder, it'd bolster his physical defense so he wouldn't take as much damage from close-combat attacks like these. Dual immediately started bunching up his muscles - hopefully the defense increase would kick in before the Wild Pokemon made contact. But I wasn't worrying about that right now. I was focusing on Dual's counterattack.

"After, hit back with Leaf Blade!" I called.

Dual nodded, and his arm-blades began to glow light green and expand. I waited anxiously for the soft light to make contact with whatever was attacking us - I was quite nervous to find out what our opponent actually was. In before it was the Wartortle.

The gentle green light of Dual's Leaf Blade revealed a spiky spherical fish that was dark blue and cream in colour. It was surrounded in water and it collided into Dual, trying to knock him off balance. However, his Bulk Up reinforced his musculature, and he turned to one side, allowing the Qwilfish to slide past him. His blades scythed through the air, slashing at the Qwilfish and knocking it away onto the ground. It bounced around on the ground, probably trying to prepare another attack or get back to the pool. I wasn't going to let it do that.

"Dual, we've got to keep the pressure on!" I yelled. "Shadow Sneak up to it then use Thunderpunch!"

The Gallade started drifting downwards, phasing into the ground. Well, that's what it looked like. In actuality he was phasing into his shadow, and when he was ready he could control his shadow to approach his target blindingly fast. He would then emerge from the shadow and strike with a fist covered in yellow electrical sparks. Hopefully that would scare the Qwilfish off and we could continue.

(OOC: If it dies, go West please.)

Dual suddenly reared out of the cold stone floor right in front of the bouncing Qwilfish. He pulled his fist back and the room was suddenly light up by strobing electrical lights. He rammed the fish hard below its eyes, and the electrical attack exploded. The Qwilfish was sent flying through the air, back into the pond. It disappeared with a plop. I waited a minute, but it did not reappear.

"Great job, Dual," I congratulated my friend. I decided to keep him out a bit longer as well - after all, he had many moves and could take on almost any kind of Pokemon.

We jumped over the pool and continued along the path. I found another one of the strange white seeds resting in an alcove on the wall. I tried shaking it to see if anything inside was loose, but no dice. I shrugged and tucked it away inside the bag I'd been provided.

I heard a sudden rumbling coming from the ceiling. I looked up, and to my surprise, I saw a fish-shape object falling down a hole. It was glowing dark brown and heading towards Dual fast. I was pretty sure I knew what it was - one of my favourite Pokemon. It's a pity I didn't have any PokeBalls on me.

"As soon as that thing lands, hit it with a Drain Punch, then back away and use Magical Leaf," I commanded. I realised that I was kind of in the way, but I found a side passage, so I ducked into that and waited with baited breath for the Wild Pokemon to finish its attack.

(OOC: If it dies, North plz.)

I was right. Our attacker was a Relicanth, and he plowed hard into Dual, sending dust and shards of stone flying. However, the ancient Pokemon was soon thrown out of the dustcloud, and then I saw Dual jump backwards out of it, going the opposite direction. He held his right hand up in front of him and six leaves materialised, glowing all the colours of the rainbow. He threw them like shuriken, and they split up as they tracked the Rock-type. The Magical Leaves all hit one by one, each one pushing the Wild Pokemon back. The last one pushed it down a tunnel, out of sight.

"Great job, man," I congratulated him.

I decided that going down the tunnel with the Relicanth was a bad idea, seeing as I'd been swamped with Pokemon when I followed the Wartortle. I found another one of those seeds lying on the ground, but this one was blue. I tucked that away with the other two white ones. As I did, a small Shinx stepped out and growled at us. I shot a quick look at Dual - this would hopefully go quickly.

"Hit it with a Zen Headbutt," I ordered, "and then shake it up a little bit with Earthquake. Keep it small, though - we're kinda underground and I don't really feel like being in the middle of a cave-in."

Dual jumped forwards as his helmet began to glow bright purple. This was his other physical Psychic-type attack. It was more powerful than Psycho Cut, but less accurate and not as refined. However, considering Dual would be reducing the power of his Earthquake, the slight increase in raw power would increase the chance of the Shinx being scared off quicker.

OOC: West, please. And using my Crystal Ball again in the next room.

Dual headbutted the cat viciously, but the Electric-type was made of stern stuff. It simply jumped up and bit Dual on the nose. He jumped back, startled more so than hurt. However, he didn't forget his orders - he punched the ground and the room started to tremor. The Shinx took one look around at the shaking gallery and it took off down a small bolt-hole low on the ground.

I saw another blue seed on the ground, so I bent down to pick it up.

"These things must come in twos," I quipped.

We continued on down the passageway, until we came to a T-intersection. Dual looked one way, and I looked the other. Before I could ask him which way he thought we should go, he started walking down the he was looking at. I shrugged, and followed him.

OOC: You're fucking kidding me. North -.-

I trusted Dual to go the right way, although I started to feel nervous. There were no Pokemon nearby, and the path just seemed to curve and curve around. I was about to ask Dual how he knew to go this way when suddenly my backpack lit up. Surprised, I dropped it onto the ground and pulled out the Crystal Ball. It was glowing bright white again. Suddenly, the white light shot off down the tunnel in the direction we were travelling. Apparently, Dual had picked the right path.

    I'm sorry I doubted you, I thought.

<That's okay, you're only human,> Dual sent, amused.

I put the Crystal Ball back into my backpack and we followed the light, which began to fade quickly. Hopefully we'd find the way out soon, although I decided to investigate the area nearby the exit before leaving. The last thing I wanted to do was report to James that I'd found the exit, and then find out that a structural weakness nearby caused the cave to collapse.

    (OOC: North please.)

We finally emerged into a large room. We were on a high-up passage over a low-down floor. I spied on the ground two entrances that we could go through. I pointed them out to Dual and asked him what he thought we should do.

<Well, we could climb down and try one of those passageways,> he suggested.

What do you mean we "could"? I asked. Don't you have an idea of which way to go?

    <Absolutely no idea,> he grinned.

Great, I replied flatly. Well, I'm not climbing down some cliffs if we don't have to. Let's just keep going straight.
