Woobat didn't seem to care very much about us once Jerome stated he wasn't interested in trying to catch it. It simply flew off, swallowed by the darkness once it was out of the flashlight's radius. I sighed a little, not realizing I had been so tense until after the Pokemon was gone. I forced myself to relax, seeing as being keyed up would only serve to attract unwanted attention from the Manor's more unpleasant occupants. I waited a few more seconds just to make sure the Pokemon wasn't going to return and try to ambush us, then led the way deeper into the cellar.

I swung the flashlight back and forth, the light sliding over the things stored here. Large kegs set on their sides were lined against either wall, the heavily dust-covered wood warped and bowed for some reason. I didn't know if there was anything in these barrels, but I had a feeling it might be long since past its prime if it was anything other than wine. None of the kegs had spigots though, so there would be no taste-testing even if I'd felt like letting any of us possibly be poisoned by unknown contents.

Other than those kegs, there wasn't much to see so far. Out of curiosity I shone the light upwards and found bare rafters above our heads. No Pokemon were lurking up there at the moment, so I lowered the light and continued to sweep it from side to side. Then, with no warning, the light slide over something that made me come up short. I focused the light on it and moved a bit closer after a second. There was no mistaking it; what looked like an elaborate gold shield in front of a sword the same color leaning against one of the kegs was actually a Pokemon. It remained still, apparently sleeping if the single closed eye was any indication. It didn't stay that way for long; most likely roused by the light, the Pokemon stirred before slowly levitating into the air. Two purple ribbons that resembled arms were crossed behind it, now visible since the Pokemon was in a better position to see it clearly.

“That's an Aegislash, one of the Kalos Pokemon,” I said in a low voice, not wanting to disturb the Pokemon if I could help it. Aegislash weren't known for being overly aggressive, but they could be extremely dangerous if provoked. “It's the fully-evolved form of Honedge. They have a unique Ability that lets them focus entirely on being defensive or offensive, depending on their stance. Right now this one is in Shield Form, so its Defense and Special Defense are extremely high. That also means its offensive abilities are low right now though, so unless you want to try and catch it, that could be a signal that it doesn't want to fight.”

That also means its offensive abilities are low right now though, so unless you want to try and catch it, that could be a signal that it doesn't want to fight.”

"Good, because I don't want to fight it either." I said quietly to her. "Aegislash is definitely a cool Pokemon to have, but I already have one. I was looking for more Honedge or maybe Doublade. I will pass for now. Let's keep going. I want to see what else we can find. Hopefully something in it's basic stage that is just as good." I pulled out my doll ready for the expected to happen.

Ranger Arunei​

Jerome replied that he didn't much feel like battling the Aegislash either, a decision I could back one-hundred percent. It's not that I didn't have faith that the Ranger could take on such a high-level opponent, but battling these kinds of fully-evolved Pokemon was an endeavor most people simply didn't want to undertake. Their experience meant they were much better at responding to the attacks of a Trainer's Pokemon and could pull off complex moves of their own. I nodded as Jerome readied a PokeDoll just in case, motioning for him to move slowly as I started to walk away from the Pokemon.

Aegislash watched us, but made no move to attack. After several moments it lowered back to the ground, propping itself against the keg and closing its single eye. Apparently it was indeed in no mood for fighting, choosing instead to go back to sleep. I would have been lying if I said I wasn't relieved it hadn't decided to try and attack, regardless of any PokeDolls Jerome might have used. Ghosts were tricky, after all.

I aimed my flashlight to the front and led us further down the wide corridor. Even though the cellar was supposed to run the entire length of the mansion, it didn't seem to be as wide as the building above it was. If it had just been built with the intention of storing all these kegs, that would be one thing, but who would need so many that the cellar had to be so long to begin with? Maybe Farnsworth had been one of those doomsday preppers or something, hoarding away essentials for whenever Fate decided it didn't like mankind anymore. If that was the case, where was all the food?

After several minutes of walking in silence, we came upon a stone wall with another door. I frowned, as the map hadn't mentioned anything about other doors besides the one we'd already come through. I pulled it out and double-checked to make sure I hadn't just overlooked it, but found I was right. There weren't any other doors marked except for the one to enter and exit the cellar proper. I put the map away and looked back at the door, eyes narrowing a bit. I felt my stomach twist almost painfully; something wasn't right here.

A clawed hand rested itself on my shoulder, causing me to jump in surprise. I whirled and saw it was only Figment, staring hard at the door and looking tense. After a moment he removed his hand from my shoulder and stepped forward, reaching out to grasp the door's metal hand. Nothing happened at first, but then the handle started to waver and shimmer. It then vanished, and the effect spread outward to the door and the wall. As they melted away, I saw the cellar stretching on into darkness before us.

“It must have been an illusion,” I said. “Something maybe trying to make us...go back.” I pursed my lips, debating on what to do. Something that could create a physical illusion like that, one only capable of being broken by a Ghost, was powerful indeed. It would probably be a bad idea to ignore it and keep pressing ahead. Rangers were responsible for the safety of their Trainers, after all, and if I had ample warning that we were about to head into dangerous territory, it would be my fault if something happened.

“I think we should head back upstairs,” I announced. “It's obvious whatever's here doesn't appreciate our presence, and it would probably be a bad idea to keep trying our luck.” I started to turn around, but at that moment I heard a faint laugh in the darkness before us. I snapped the flashlight around, trying to pick out the source of the sound, but couldn't see anything. Figment made a very low rumbling noise, a clear warning for whatever was out there to reveal itself, but he was ignored. There was another quiet chuckle, the sound almost like the tinkling of a wind chime, only more sinister.

“Figment, stay close to Jerome,” I told my Pokemon, and he hesitantly fell back so I could take the lead. I continued to shine my light around, trying to oust the source of the laughing, until I heard a feminine voice begin to sing a haunting tune.

”We lay my love and I, beneath the weeping willow.
But now alone I lie, and weep beside the tree.
Singing O Willow Waly, by the tree that weeps with me,
Singing O Willow Waly, till my lover returns to me.

We lay my love and I, beneath the weeping willow,
But now alone I lie,

A purple form streaked by at that point, moving too fast to get a good look before returning to the darkness. But from what I'd managed to glimpse, on top of the behavior of whatever was around, I had a good feeling I knew what it was.

“A Mismagius,” I said. The Ghosts were known to bring suffering to those they encountered, using powerful spells and incantations to strike their victims with headaches and hallucinations. If they were strong enough, they could even force those around them to fall asleep and enter a twisted dreamworld without the afflicted even noticing. For a moment I worried that was what had happened, but I quickly dismissed the fear. If that was the case, the Pokemon wouldn't be putting on as big a show as it was.

“If you want to battle it, we're going to have to force it to show itself,” I told Jerome. “Otherwise, we need to get out of here.”

“I think we should head back upstairs,” She said. “It's obvious whatever's here doesn't appreciate our presence, and it would probably be a bad idea to keep trying our luck.” I wasn't sure what she was so scared of. I wanted to keep going and find out what it was. With my Pokemon besides me, I felt like I could take whatever it was on. However, I didn't want her to feel uneasy, and I could tell she was very much so feeling that way so I would head back.

“Figment, stay close to Jerome,” She said to me.

“A Mismagius,” She said. “If you want to battle it, we're going to have to force it to show itself, otherwise, we need to get out of here.”

"Let's go then, lead the way." I said, sounding a bit disappointed. I wasn't interested in battling Mismagius, but I was interested in figuring out if whatever was out there was still lurking, trying to lure us in. I readied my Pokedoll and prepared to leave.

I could hear the disappointment in Jerome's voice when he said to lead the way. In a way I could sympathize with him; it was rare that a run turned quite so exciting. Unfortunately, safety of our Trainers was a Ranger's number one priority, regardless of how thrilling a run might be getting. And here, I could tell, was very dangerous territory. The Mismagius gave a lilting laugh, apparently finding the whole situation amusing. A voice, neither telepathic nor physical, spoke once again. The way Ghosts communicated could be disorienting.

“It's been so very, very long since I've had flesh and blood visitors here. So very long indeed.” Another chuckle as the Ghost broke into another song.

“Round we go, the world is spinning
When it stops, it's just beginning.

Sun comes up, we laugh and we cry.
Sun goes down, and then we all die.”

“Throw the Doll,” I told Jerome, glancing back to make sure he had one ready. The Ranger nodded and heaved it; it bounced a few times before coming to a rest just outside the range of the flashlight's beam. There was silence for a moment, then I felt the air drop by several degrees. A sort of electricity filled the air, causing the hairs on my arms and neck to straighten. Figment snarled in response but remained where he was, though I could tell he was on the verge of attacking the Wild Pokemon.

“You think a mere toy will distract me? I am no simple-minded beast to be so easily fooled!” The voice was deeper, still feminine but clearly angry. The Pokemon then started to giggle, an unnerving sound that seemed to come from everywhere. “How very cute. Let us make a wager, then. You seek something powerful.” Her words were now aimed at Jerome, and for the first time the Pokemon slid into the light so we could see her. A dangerous, tiny smile was on her face as she hovered in the air, swaying gently from side to side. “If you can stand against one of my toys, I'll let you go. But if you lose, I get to claim your delicious souls.”

There was no chance to respond. Figment started to step forward, but Mismagius darted back with a cackle, vanishing into the darkness. I moved forward several steps, moving my flashlight back and forth to try and spot the Pokemon. I managed to find her just before she literally dove into a slumped shape on the floor. I couldn't make out what it was at first, but then it started to jerk and spasm before slowly clambering to its feet. I couldn't help but curl my lip when the thing turned around, showing it was a long-dead, mummified Noivern. I scowled; there was no way the Pokemon should have been here long enough to be in this state, when Kalos Pokemon had just recently been imported. After a moment I realized it must have come to be like this from Mismagius devouring its life-force.

As we watched, the dried remains started to fill out, plumping up as the dull black fur covering the dragon-bat's body became sleek and shiny. Its eyes filled out, taking on a dark red hue as the Pokemon spread its wings. The membranes were tattered and torn, but they soon healed until they were healthy and taut. The revived Pokemon let out a shrill screech as it flapped its restored wings, taking flight and circling our heads.

“Mismagius must have eaten Noivern's life-force, but enough remained for it to be revived when it was possessed,” I said. “There's no telling whether it's in control or Mismagius is. We can try to run, use another Doll, or battle.” I didn't know if using another Doll was such a good idea after Mismagius' reaction to the last one, but if Noivern was in control, it could work to get us away if Jerome wasn't up for the fight.

Mismagius was a stubborn son of a bitch, it just didn't want to leave us alone. I wasn't sure how a battle against it would turn out, but we definitely wouldn't go down without a fight. I wanted to teach it a lesson, but that was not the reason I came here, I wanted some good Pokemon, and I was damn well going to make sure I got those instead of wasting my time with some delusional Pokemon. It was obvious this Pokemon had some issues to resolve, but I wasn't here to help it.

“Mismagius must have eaten Noivern's life-force, but enough remained for it to be revived when it was possessed,” She said. “There's no telling whether it's in control or Mismagius is. We can try to run, use another Doll, or battle.”

"I really don't want to battle either of them. This Mismagius is obviously crazy, let's see if we can get out of here. I'm looking for more sane and interesting Pokemon. I do like Noivern though, but I already have one and was wanting more Noibat than anything." I was really hoping a doll would work or we could escape, but I was definitely ready for the worse in case we did or were forced to battle.

Despite the dangerous predicament we were in, I couldn't help but snort out a laugh when Jerome called the Mismagius crazy. My mirth quickly died when the Noivern above us screamed and dove, causing us all to duck as it whooshed by. Hair and clothes whipping, I straightened and watched as Jerome got ready to throw another PokeDoll. Before he could, though, something large and black crashed into Noivern and sent it slamming into the ground. The revived Pokemon shrieked in pain as it struck, flailing for a moment to get back up. At first I wondered exactly what had happened, but then the second figure slowly floated into the path of the flashlight.

“Darkrai!” I gasped in surprise. The Legend looked vaguely humanoid, though its skin was dark as ebony. A white mane flowed on his head, and crystal blue eyes were currently focused on the struggling Noivern. He had strong-looking arms and hands, but lacked any sort of legs, though this didn't hamper his ability to move around. Keeping his eyes on the Noivern, he raised a hand and held it out towards us. At first I thought he wanted something, but a second later something hovered by us. It turned out to be a PokeDoll, most likely the one Jerome had used to try and distract Mismagius with before. Once it was close enough, he grabbed it and shifted his weight, punching down and hitting Noivern so hard his fist -as well as the Doll he was clutching- that his hand went clear through it. Noivern's jaws opened in a silent scream and it thrashed uselessly before falling still. It's body shrunk, returning to the dried, lifeless form it had been in before Mismagius possessed it.

~Perhaps you'll listen to and heed warnings from now on,~ a voice spoke. The same from earlier that told me to turn back, in fact. Figment was growling softly, and suddenly I was struck with a thought.

“Were YOU the one following me through the woods earlier?”

~Yes. I had gone out to try and find an herb that would calm this harpy. She's far too eager to bring doom to others. Unfortunately, I was unable to find any. Something told me things would turn bad for you this eve. Sadly, I was correct.~ As the Legend spoke, he raised his fist and shook bits of the Noivern's mummified skin off it, then tossed it to the ground. I yelped when it started to twitch the next second, then abruptly sat up and twisted its head back and forth. The animate Doll, a little Zoroark plush, then let out a girlish cry and started to frantically pat at its body.

“Darkrai! What did you do to me!?” I blinked; that voice was Mismagius'! She was in the Doll it seemed, and judging by her distress, she was trapped.

Perhaps a few decades' imprisonment will succeed where simple words have not.~ Darkrai turned from the wailing Doll at that point, fixing us with an unreadable expression. His eyes softened after a second, taking on an amused glint. ~I do believe you'll fetch a good price for a photograph of me.~ I could only stare in surprise; not only had Darkrai simply been trying to watch out for us, he had quite possibly saved us and was now giving Jerome a chance to get a clear picture.

~Perhaps you'll listen to and heed warnings from now on,~ a voice spoke. I wasn't sure where it was coming from, but it didn't sound as dangerous as the Mismagius. Or at least I hope it wasn't. Then I saw it, it was Darkari. He was definitely more powerful than Mismagius, but I wasn't sure he was dangerous at all.

“Were YOU the one following me through the woods earlier?” My ranger said. I was shocked, we were finally finding out who what was causing her Pokemon to freak out.

~Yes. I had gone out to try and find an herb that would calm this harpy. She's far too eager to bring doom to others. Unfortunately, I was unable to find any. I was quite surprised. Not only did he save us from that crazy bitch Pokemon, but he was giving me the opportunity to take his picture.

"Thank you!" I said in response. I pulled out my camera and snapped a quick picture. I was going to make a copy of this before turning it in for cash so I could have it on my records. This was definitely a win for me.

Darkrai simply chuckled at Jerome's thanks, waiting until after the Ranger had taken his picture to turn away. He focused on the Zoroark plush, which was still panicking, then shook his head before facing us again.

~With this one no longer posing a threat, there should be nothing else that interferes with your exploration of this place,~ he said. ~For now, I will have to tend to those who were under her control. With their link to their master severed, they will be confused, weak, and disoriented.~ The Pokemon bowed his head in farewell before vanishing before us. I didn't get a chance to tell Jerome how lucky he was for the encounter before Mismagius unsteadily got to her feet, running over and practically attaching herself to my right ankle.

“Don't leave me here!” she cried pathetically. Anyone might think she was simply faking to try and work the situation to her advantage, but I could hear genuine desperation in her voice. “Without my powers I won't be able to protect myself!”

“Maybe you should have thought of that before doing whatever horrible things you did to get you in this position,” I replied, shaking my leg to dislodge the doll. She fell to the ground with a soft thud and sat there dejectedly, head down. For a moment I contemplated leaving her there, but my conscious wouldn't let me. Maybe she'd been an awful Pokemon, and maybe she deserved to be left to the mercy of the Manor's inhabitants, but it wasn't going to be on me. I sighed and bent down, grabbing the doll around the waist and picking it up. Mismagius squeaked in surprise but offered no resistance.

“If you so much as twitch the wrong way, I'm stuffing you in one of these kegs,” I told her. The doll stared at me with wide eyes and nodded silently. I loosened my grip enough for her to wiggle free, at which point she scurried up my arm to perch on my shoulder. I could only hope I wouldn't end up regretting my kindness later as I waved for us to continue on.

Since the cellar was deemed safe now, I decided we must as well keep exploring. It wasn't long before a Pokemon approached, drawn either by the earlier commotion or the lack of Mismagius' presence. Either way, the purple ball of gas didn't seem to shy away from us as it drew closer, though it did do its best to avoid being in the direct beam of the flashlight.

“A Gastly,” I commented. “I wonder why it's being so open? Ghosts usually like to hide for a while before showing themselves, if they ever do. Feel like seeing if it wants to battle?”

OOC: Me blabbing about Mega Evos. They'd be so cool in the park.

He was definitely not what every described him to be. I had heard some dark sinister things about Darkrai, but now I didn't believe any of them. He seemed quite nice and friendly.

“Don't leave me here!” she cried pathetically. “Without my powers I won't be able to protect myself!”

“Maybe you should have thought of that before doing whatever horrible things you did to get you in this position,” My ranger said, shaking her leg to dislodge the doll. I sighed, she was too nice. I wanted a chance to kick the doll. However mean that sounded, I felt no remorse for it because of what it had done. I wasn't too thrilled about her bringing the doll along, but I couldn't stop her even if I wanted to. She had every right to bring that monstrous Pokemon with us.

“If you so much as twitch the wrong way, I'm stuffing you in one of these kegs,” She told the doll.

We left the area and proceeded into a different area. I couldn't help but to wonder what would have happened had Darkrai not shown up. I felt that my way of doing things would have indeed been a bit better. In my opinion, it was best to bring it out your enemy on your own terms. Reason being was that if it would pop out later and decide to battle us while we were unprepared then it could be troublesome. If that were to happen and it caught us off guard and it had been as strong as I suspected it to be we could have been in serious trouble. However, with my plan on forcing it out, then it wouldn't have the element of surprise on us and we could at least be somewhat prepared and have more of a chance at defending ourselves against it.

It seemed like the more better choice in my opinion. I wouldn't have and wasn't going to say anything on it though and just agree with her for now. She was after all my Ranger and I was going to respect her decision. We Rangers were trained for situations like this, and although I too was a ranger, she was the lead ranger in this run so I had to go by what she said anyways. I looked over at her Trenevant to see how it was doing. It definitely seemed to be doing better than before. I was glad. That didn't mean that we could let our guard down, but we could relax a little.

“A Gastly,” she commented. “I wonder why it's being so open? Ghosts usually like to hide for a while before showing themselves, if they ever do. Feel like seeing if it wants to battle?” I was a bit distracted and thinking about our earlier encounter to notice the Gastly, but I finally noticed it.

Gastly had no true form, and was mostly nintey-five percent poisonous gas. It was just a black, spherical Pokémon surrounded by a purple haze. It had a wide, pink mouth with a devious grin on barring two visible fangs. I knew this Pokemon was definitely interesting, that and it was in its basic form. I had to have it. I did a quick scan of the Pokemon to record its data while hopefully learning something new on it.

Gastly - the Gas Pokemon. Gastly are about four feet and are one of the lightest Pokemon in exsistenst, weighting a mere point two pounds. Almost invisible, this gaseous Pokémon cloaks the target and puts it to sleep without notice. Made of a thin, gas-like substance that induces fainting if you get enshrouded in it. Will not appear if it is very windy because it could get blown away. Most Gastly have a playful personality, often frightening and playing pranks on people for fun.

It was literally one of the lightest Pokemon I had ever seen, mostly due to being just gas. I had to be careful not to inhale any of that gas, I didn't want to get knocked out by it. "I suppose I am somewhat interested." I said to her. I wasn't sure how much energy it would take to capture this Pokemon, but I wasn't planning on using much. Or so I thought, I wasn't going to assume anything at this point. If I was going to assume something, it would be that we could in fact lose this if the gas became a problem.

"Hmm, Shadow, you up for another round?" I asked my partner Pokemon. I knew he would always be game to go at it again, but I would never force him to do so. Shadow nodded and moved forward. I was dead set on using him, but then something came to mind. What if there was more stuff lurking around following us. It would still have to be a Ghost type possibly a Dark type. If that was the case, I didn't want Mindbender to have to fight against it. Shadow would be the best thing against it. Which meant that I would have to use Mindbender in this battle instead of the other possible battle.

"On the second thought, I need you on reserve Shadow buddy." I said to him. He didn't seem too disappointed, more than likely because he didn't see Gastly as much of a challenge. Not that he was underestimating it or anything, but it just seemed like he could easily beat it. "Mindbender, you're up next. Start us off with Will-o-Wisp, then go into Hidden Power!" I thought about that for a few seconds, then decided not to. Gas and fire weren't a good mix. We didn't want some sort of explosion to take place. Defintiely not after finding out that such friendly Pokemon like Darkrai lived here.

"Actually, use Thunder Wave instead of Will-o-Wisp. Thunder Wave and Hidden Power." I said, getting my self focused on this battle. I couldn't let myself get distracted by what already happened and had to focus on what was taking place.

Thunder Wave was a light blue electrical coat that would surround the opponent and then disappear. If it worked successfully, the opponent would be slower and sometimes unable to move.

Hidden Power was just orbs of energy. What type of energy depended solely on the Pokemon, each Pokemon could have different Hidden Powers, even those of the same species. My Gardevoir's Hidden Power so happened to be Fire, which wasn't super effective against Gastly, but it would do damage. She would form reddish orbs around her body. The size varied from marble size to softball size, I hadn't really seen her use anything stronger than that. The ones she was creating here would be baseball size, which would in theory do a decent amount.

Gastly was definitely an interesting Pokemon that I could get something beneficial from. I already had a Gengar and a Haunter, so if anything came up, I could end up just keeping Gastly and having a set. I used my Gengar quite often. Gengar was a really strong Pokemon. On a recent adventure, I found a Gengarite stone which was a stone that allowed Gengar to mega evolve.

Mega Evolution had just been discovered not too long ago. Several Pokemon, Shadow and Mindbender included, could mega evolve. In order to Mega Evolve, the Pokémon must be holding the appropriate Mega Stone and its Trainer must have a Key Stone. Finding these two items was quite difficult, but we managed to do so. It is theorized that even with the Mega Stone and the respective item to resonate with the stone, Mega Evolution cannot be achieved if there is not a strong bond between Trainer and Pokémon. My Pokemon and I share quite a strong bond, so it was obvious that mega evolution worked for us. I hadn't really used it in any battle because I haven't had a need yet, but when I did Shadow would become immensely powerful.

Mega Evolution could only be achieved once per battle and only a single Pokémon each time may Mega Evolve. I guessed it was because the Mega Ring was already in use and had to recharge. If a Pokemon wanted to achieve true power, they would have to both, the Trainer and the Pokemon, become one. Not most people could do it. I was glad I could do it with my Pokemon. I could only hope to work with this Gastly so that it too could bare witness to this power. The road to Mega Evolution was definitely a hard one, but well worth it in then end.

I wasn't sure if I was up to par on training this Gastly, but if it was dedicated enough, I would help it do so. Right now, I just had to focus on capturing it. That would be the fun part. A battle did indeed sound nice after what we had just been through. They always calmed me down and made me feel more relaxed and pumped at the same time. I could only hope the rest of my adventure here in Ruined Manor would be just as or more exciting. Better Pokemon would be nice too.

IC: Jerome decided to battle the Gastly rather than passing it up. It seemed he was a collector, which was already pretty obvious from the list of Items he'd brought with him. He took several minutes to get himself situated, first asking Shadow if he wanted to battle before changing his mind and sending Mindbender instead. He then ordered her to open with a Will-o-Wisp, followed by a Hidden Power; this, too, was changed a second later. The Ranger decided to have his Gardevoir start with a Thunder Wave, which I personally thought was the better idea. There was no telling what might be in these kegs, and if the Will-o-Wisp went wide, it could end up hitting one. There was also the fact that Gastly were mostly comprised of various gases, but none that had been found to be flammable so far. Of course, there was always the chance that a slight mutation or alteration in genes could result in a Gastly that produced combustible gases, so it was always a good idea to err on the side of caution.

Mindbender took Jerome's momentary inability to make up his mind in good stride, not bothered by it at all. Instead, she simply waited for him to get his thoughts in order. During this time, though, Gastly wasn't just floating around idly. At some point it noticed the doll on my shoulder and visibly tensed before its features twisted into a snarl. Its gaze then slid to Mindbender, and just as Jerome finished his orders, the Pokemon's face distorted horribly. Its fangs increased in size, its eyes became pure black holes, and its tongue took on a bloated form as it turned blue. Thick red fluid started to drip from its mouth and eyes as it made a harsh choking noise, like someone being strangled.

I recoiled from the sight even though I knew what was happening, and Mindbender fared no better. The Scary Face took her completely by surprise, and despite her serene nature it was obvious she was rather disturbed by the unnerving assault. She hesitated in moving, which Gastly took full advantage of. Its face reverted back to normal as quickly as it had deformed and it began to murmur under its voice. As it spoke, strange symbols started to flicker to life in front of it, each one letting off a sickly violet light. After a few moments, the symbols converged into a single sigil, which fired a beam of energy at Mindbender.

Still shocked from Gastly's earlier display, Mindbender wasn't able to dodge the Hex. The beam struck her in the chest, causing her to take a few steps back to avoid being knocked over. She winced from the blow, but otherwise didn't show that it had hurt. Instead, her normal calm expression returned and she straightened, raising both hands as the sigil in front of Gastly faded away. Thin, faint tendrils of ellow energy started to gather between the Gardevoir's palms, and a moment later she jerked her hands apart. The ball of softly-crackling electricity zipped through the air, passing over Gastly and causing it to flinch in pain. Even though it wasn't a completely solid being, the electricity would interfere with the gases that its body was mostly created of. This would both slow it and occasionally render it completely immobile.

Right after releasing her Thunder Wave, Mindbender charged her Hidden Power. Five small orbs of dark red energy formed in front of her chest, and with the wave of her hand they flew towards their target. Still reeling from the previous Thunder Wave, Gastly was now the one incapable of evading the attack coming towards it. The five spheres combined into a single ball the size of a basketball, which hit its target and nearly knocked it from the air.

“Gastly doesn't seem to like you very much, Missy,” I commented, speaking to the doll on my shoulder. Mismagius remained silent, and I wondered if I should just toss her into the shadows and be done with it. Then I felt bad for thinking such a thing and sighed. “Be careful,” I said louder, now talking to Jerome. “I think Gastly is mad that Mismagius is with us.”

Our attacks were actually going better than I had anticipated. I didn't want her to do too much damage, and that's exactly what she was doing. Just enough damage to weaken it a little. I didn't want to use any of her strong moves to knock the little guy out, if I did, this whole battle would have been for nothing in my opinion. Mindbender didn't really need anymore battle experience, especially not from a wild, untrained Pokemon. However, catching this Pokemon would hopefully get us something good in the long run. I honestly didn't need it, but in this world, I am sure someone out there is willing to pay for a Gastly at the right price.

“Gastly doesn't seem to like you very much, Missy,” My ranger said to the doll she was carrying around.

"I wonder why," I mumbled sarcastically to myself. I had no idea why in the world she was carrying that stupid doll with her in the first place. If it were up to me I would have kicked the doll and placed it somewhere it would have no communication with anyone and be forever alone. After the things it's done, not only to us, it doesn't deserve mercy. Apparently she liked bringing people to their dooms. Having that doll with us just made me a little uneasy. However, I didn't say anything, after all what harm could it do now to us in that form it was in now.

“Be careful,” My ranger said. “I think Gastly is mad that Mismagius is with us."

"Yeah, I get the feeling any Pokemon here will be mad that she's with us. She's a menace." I just shook my head and tried to ignore the demon she was carrying. I figured something Physical would do less, but sufficient damage to Gastly from my Mindbender. She was a Special attacker so her Physical side wasn't too great. But then I figured I needed to do some real damage now instead of going small. I wanted to be able to capture it soon so using a stronger move would be better in doing that.

"Mindbender, use Shadow Ball. Careful not to knock it out, but do a decent amount of damage." I called out to her. She was good at assuring the Pokemon wouldn't be knocked out by her attack, that was one thing I loved about her.

Her Shadow Ball attack was just a about two soft ball size big. It was black and appeared to have electrical energy flowing around it, though I was fairly certain it wasn't electrical. The black gooey orb would be sent towards Gastly and hopefully land successfully. If that happened, I would then be ready to proceed in capturing the Pokemon and we could continue our trip here.

OOC: I couldn't blame Jerome for being irritated with Missy's presence, but on the other hand, my conscience wouldn't let me abandon the Pokemon here. We were Rangers, responsible for the well-being of every Pokemon on the Park as well as the Park itself. I didn't much like being kind to the thing, since it was pretty clear she'd been awful, but my moral compass wouldn't let me personally make any actions that might result in her ending up hurt or, somehow, dead. I didn't exactly think being stuck in a doll was suitable punishment for whatever things she'd done in the past, though, so there was the issue of dealing with that. It was a matter for another time, though.

Jerome ordered Mindbender to use a Shadow Ball, probably in an attempt to weaken Gastly as much as possible in as little time as could be spent. It seemed risky, since Ghost Pokemon were particularly weak to their own Type. Shadow Ball was a powerful attack, and Mindbender would be better at using the attack than Gastly would be at receiving it. I remained silent, though, as it wasn't my place to jump in the middle of a battle and try coaching the Trainer. My job was to provide information and make sure nothing exploded or collapsed, and to mediate dangerous situations.

Mindbender started to gather energy for her attack, but it was clear the mental image of Gastly's deformed Scary Face was making it hard for her to concentrate. This caused her to be slower in forming the Shadow Ball, and Gastly took the chance to move first. Cackling to itself, the gaseous orb seemed to melt away into the air; it reappeared a few seconds later right in front of Mindbender's face and stuck its large tongue out. It then proceeded to give the Gardevoir a giant Lick, going from her chin all the way up to her forehead.

Mindbender winced, mostly in disgust but also from the unpleasant numbing effects the saliva of a Gastly left behind. Not being able to feel the middle of her face wasn't quite as distracting as the image of a terrifying visage staring you in the eyes, but it made Mindbender pause long enough for Gastly to put some distance between them before she could finally charge up her Shadow Ball. By the time she released it, Gastly was several feet away. The Pokemon still had its back to its opponent, though, and when it finally turned around, it had practically no time to evade the large sphere. It tried to go incorporeal, but the energy that formed the Shadow Ball still caused a fair bit of damage as it passed through the Ghost.

Gastly became solid again after the Shadow Ball went by, looking rankled that its efforts at avoiding further damage had failed. It glared at Mindbender as her attack fizzled before it could hit anything else.

“I'm not sure what Gastly's planning, but I don't think it's going to be good. You might want to act fast,” I called.

“I'm not sure what Gastly's planning, but I don't think it's going to be good. You might want to act fast,” She called out to me. I was well aware of this, in fact, I already had my next move planned out. I was going to have Mindbender use Shadow Sneak. A Ghost-type move that would do some decent, but minor damage, hopefully to let me capture it. I knew her attack wasn't that great, but it was a super effective move, so I was counting on it doing some decent damage here. If I had to guess, I'd say Gastly was at about half of it's full health. I wasn't really in a good spot to capture it, but I would try anyways.

"Mindbender, use Shadow Sneak and do some damage on Gastly." I called out to her. After she did that, I wouldn't give the Gastly time to react. By then, I would have thrown my Parkball at the ghostly Pokemon.

When using Shadow Sneak, Mindbender would disappear into the ground and her shadow would zoom forward until it is behind the opponent. The shadow then raises out of the ground and her fists punch the opponent. It wasn't a really strong attack, but it would do a good amount of damage to Gastly and allow me to successfully capture it... I hoped. I pulled out a Superball. I was ready to throw it once Shadow Sneak made contact.

IC: Shadow Sneak, while not something a Gardevoir would normally get much good from using due to their low Attack stat, seemed like a decent enough idea here. After all, the point of this battle was to catch the Gastly, not knock it out. We watched as Mindbender's form seemed to darken; at the same time, the Gardevoir appeared to slowly sink into the floor. Gastly scowled, then let out a cackle. It swayed back and forth, giggling to itself in a malevolent fashion, seemingly unconcerned when Mindbender vanished entirely. Instead, it focused on some point in front of it and started to gather an inky blob of energy. It was somewhat slow going; the paralysis that had been inflicted on it occasionally made its concentration falter, causing some of the energy to dissipate.

A second later, I noticed movement heading in Gastly's direction. It was a rapid blur of darkness moving along the floor; Mindbender, traveling via her shadow. When she reached Gastly's, she materialized within a breath, appearing before it and lashing out with a powerful slap. Gastly snickered and forced itself incorporeal again, causing Mindbender's hand to pass through its body. The ghostly energy surrounding the appendage affected it just as the Shadow Ball earlier had, though, making the Ghost flinch in surprise. It then reformed, becoming as solid as a mostly-gas mass could become. This trapped Mindbender's hand momentarily, holding her in place as Gastly released a Shadow Ball of its own. Weakened by it failing concentration from Mindbender's attack, it was smaller than normal and therefore didn't cause much damage. Still, Mindbender's brow creased a bit when it struck her in the chest, obviously causing a little pain even if it didn't hurt too much.

Gastly, clearly worn out, released Mindbender's hand and started to falter in the air. It glowered at us, not at all pleased with how things were going. Before it could counter, Jerome threw a Super Ball at the Ghost. He'd pulled it out a few moments ago, most likely intending to use it right after Mindbender's Shadow Sneak. Unfortunately, he hadn't been able to use it then, since Mindbender had been caught right in the Ball's path and would have blocked it.

The orb struck Gastly and sucked it inside before hitting the ground, where it wobbled a few times before falling still. I sighed a little and went to collect it, stowing it in my pack along with Pumpkaboo's Ball. I then returned to Jerome and waved my flashlight around a bit.

“Congrats! That's two; wanna keep looking around, or should we wait a few minutes?”

OOC: Uhh, female I guess. Have two males already.

IC: The Superball somehow hit Gastly's gaseous form and sucked the ghost in. The ball shook three times and laid still. I was quite excited. I had captured two decent Pokemon here in the park and just needed one more to have three total. I just hoped it would be something interesting, I was getting lucky so far, I hoped that luck continued. I didn't really want to continue going on, but I didn't want to end this run short of three Pokemon, seemed like a waste in my opinion.

“Congrats! That's two; wanna keep looking around, or should we wait a few minutes?” She asked.

"Let's keep looking," I said in hopes of finishing this as soon as possible.

Suddenly, I just randomly appeared as if out of thin air! And it's because I did! Well, thanks to my Gardevoir, she Teleported us here, since a trainer was in the middle of a run through the park, but needed a new ranger due to some technical difficulties. I agreed I would come out of retirement and ranger again, because the park seemed like it could use a little more help, and I knew this trainer. Real troublemaker that's for sure. But a job is a job, and I would do my job to the fullest just like I use to.

So, are you sure you are ready to go back to doing this? My Gardevoir asked my telepathically.

Well...not really, but still, I'd responded. But ready or not, it was time to get to work, and the first step was catching up on the information I've missed.

"Hello, Jerome, long time no see," I'd said. "I heard you needed a ranger, so here I am. So far it seems you've captured a Gastly, and a Pumpkaboo. Those will be handy to have for Halloween in a few months," I'd joked, and laughed a bit. Ruined Manor was a completely new area to me, so I wasn't really sure what to expect, but then again that was the fun of it I suppose.

"So, since I've just shown up, feel free to get yourself situated, and we'll get going whenever you're ready to," I had said, as I pulled out a flashlight to light our way.

"Hello, Jerome, long time no see," another Ranger said. He came out of no where. I looked around to see where my current Ranger was, and she was gone. I assumed it had somehting to do with that nasty Pokemon, Mismagius. "I heard you needed a ranger, so here I am. So far it seems you've captured a Gastly, and a Pumpkaboo. Those will be handy to have for Halloween in a few months,"

"Hey! It has been a while, how've you been!" I asked. I wasn't even aware that I needed a new Ranger.

"So, since I've just shown up, feel free to get yourself situated, and we'll get going whenever you're ready to," he said.

"Yeah man, I am ready to go." I said, looking around one more time to see if I could spot Arunei.

"Hey! It has been a while, how've you been!" Jerome said upon my greeting. He seemed surprised to see that I was here. I guessed that he must have not known another ranger would be showing up to lead him through the park. I guess that made sense, as trainers usual weren't informed until after the fact. Was no big deal now though, because I was sure he was just waiting to go.

"Yeah man, I am ready to go," Jerome said to me.

With those words I got a flashlight ready to light the way, and we were off. I was surprised by how dark it was. I wasn't all that sure if this flashlight was going to be enough light for us, but before I thought of anything else, I figured I'd at least see what Jerome had run into, as I'd already looked to see what he captured. It looked like a pretty standard list of stuff. Darkrai was a pretty interesting thing to run into. I always thought it was amazing to run into Legendaries in the park.

We were searching around for something, but with the minimal light we had I felt we were getting no where fast. I knew I was going to have to improvise, just to see what was around us.

"Hmm, I suppose this situation calls for you, Chandelure," I said, as I threw it's Pokeball into the air.

"Can you do me a favor, and go above us, and just power up your flames a bit so we can see what's in the near area?" I asked Chandelure, who didn't seem to mind helping.

Her flames lite up, and as such a light covered up, and the surrounding area. I had heard a noise, and then noticed a Pokemon to the left of us a few moments later. I guess that the light must have startled the creature, and made it see where the light was coming from. I found it odd that this Pokemon came our way though, seeing as how it appeared to be some sort of bat, like a Zubat, or a Woobat, or another bat creature, but not a baseball bat. It was lavender in color, and had some big bright yellow eyes. I don't know if it was friendly, or if it wanted a fight, but either way I had to ask Jerome what he felt like doing.

"It seems a Noibat has come our way. Do you have any interest in it?"

My Ranger was finally ready to continue, he pulled out a flashlight and took point, ready to light and lead the way. It was pretty dark in here, which didn't really surprise me since we were in a ruined manor but still, this place could use a little more light. Then again, the creatures here probably like it just the way it is. They would probably hate for people to come into their home and just start changing up the place by adding more light. I know I certainly wouldn't like people to come to my house and change up my style.

I just needed to encounter a couple more Pokemon here then I would probably head out. I wasn't sure what else I would find. I wanted at least one more, but if two more decent things came along, I just might substitute Gastly for whatever else I find. Either way, I was going to leave here satisfied.

"Hmm, I suppose this situation calls for you, Chandelure," My Ranger said, as he threw a Pokeball into the air.

Chandelure was just that, a chandelier. Chandelure had a striped, round head, and pupil-less yellow eyes. There was a ring of small, black spikes on top of its head with tall, purple flame in the middle. These arms, or at least I assumed they were arms, were tipped with purple fire. It is said that Chandelure's flames do not burn its victims physically, instead it burns their spirit. Sounds a bit dramatic, but I didn't want to find out.

"Can you do me a favor, and go above us, and just power up your flames a bit so we can see what's in the near area?" He asked his partner Pokemon. The chandelier floated above us and began providing more light.

The room was now more lit so I took this opportinty to search the room and see what Pokemon I could find. My eyes quickly went over to something hovering above the ground.

It was a lavender bat-like Pokémon. It was kind of like a Zubat, but unlike Zubat, this Pokemon had more of a body. It had two clawed fingers on each wing and two long toes on each foot. It had a black fur that covered most of its body. It also had two large yellow eyes that stared back at us. Two purple teardrop-shaped spots on the front of its face, I just assumed that was a nose or something like that. What really interested me was the large speaker-like ears on its head.

"It seems a Noibat has come our way. Do you have any interest in it?" He asked me.

"Yeah, I can try for it." I said, but I honestly had never seen this Pokemon before, so I brought out my Pokedex.

Noibat - the soundwave Pokemon. Noibat is a small creature about one foot in height and around twenty pounds. These Pokemon are capable of emitting ultrasonic waves of 200,000 Hertz from its ears, which it can use to stun large creatures, immobilize prey, and determine the ripeness of fruit it enjoys eating. It also uses ultrasonic waves as a means to communicate with other Noibat.

"Interesting." I said. I knew by now Shadow was itching to fight. He hadn't really done any battling since we got here and fighting a new Pokemon he hasn't battled before was something he was definitely interested in. I wasn't going to deny him this.

"Let's do this." I said, full of energy. Shadow moved forward and was ready for my commands. I wanted to see just how fast this Pokemon was, so I was going to try and test it's speed. "Use Sludge Bomb and then light it up with a light Ember attack!"

This was a simple combination that could cause a decent amount of damage when combined. Sludge Bomb would get the flying bat Pokemon covered in poisonous gunk and ember would burn that up.
