"Yeah, yeah. Okay, I'm nearly there. This might be him ahead," I said, putting down the phone as I bushed a branch out of my way. I was on a twisting path heading into the heart of the Woods. This chap's old ranger had to leave for some emergency, so now it was up to me.

Ahead, a man was sitting on a fallen tree trunk. He gave me a brief smile. "Sorry about before. You must be Gregory?" I asked him. He jumped at the sound of my voice. He gave me a brief nod. "Well, my name is Jay and I'll be escorting you through for the rest of this run."

Looking ahead, I saw the road forked to the right and to the left. "Which way would you like to go?"

“Hey Jay!” I said excitedly. Marowak also seemed to greet this new arrival with enthusiasm, he launched his slender bone into the air as a salute.

Jay questioned me as to where I would like to go next, dead ahead was a fork in the road and I decided to let my companion Marowak decide. He was pretty bruised up from the battle with eevee before but this tough little fighter still had tons of energy to spare.

“Marowak! Which way should we go?” I asked. He immediately stuck his bone forward and off to the right a bit.

“Right it is Jay, But before we go, May I use a super potion to help out Marowak?” I enquired noticing a painful looking gash in Marowak's shoulder.

 

NBP:

"Hey, Jay," Greggory said excitedly. Marowak smiled before flinging his bone into the air, almost as though it was a kind of salute. Marowak were pretty badass Pokemon and I had often thought about getting one. Marowak pointed his bone in the right direction, indicating he wanted to go that way.

“Right it is Jay, But before we go, May I use a super potion to help out Marowak?" Greggory asked.

"Sure thing," I said and I watched as the trainer took out his Super Potion and sprayed it on his injured Marowak. In just a few seconds, it looked almost as good as new. When he had done we began walking and listening to the sound of the Pokemon hiding in the bushes. It was an awfully noisy place here and could often give you headaches, but it wasn't too bad. Unfortunately, it got much worse up ahead.

I paused for a moment as I heard a giggle from my right. Out from one of the tangled bushes a Whismur poked it's head out. It gave us a lop-sided smile and I resisted the urge to laugh at it. "Whismur are cool Pokemon. Would you be interested in this one?"

‘A Whismur!’ I thought to myself.

I studied the curious Pokémon as it swayed side to side, its yellow tipped ears draped over its cheeks.

Marowak did not seem phased at all by this newcomer. This prompted me to find out the true power of the little purple creature.

“Jay! I think I’m going to go for it!” I smiled as Marowak looked at me with dull boredom.

“Lets go Marowak! Who knows, this Pokémon could be more powerful than you think!” I declared.

Marowak sniffed at his opponent but charged at it with his hardened head outstretched, the sun glistening of its smooth white exterior.
“Come on Marowak, Hit him with your head, FULL FORCE!” I bellowed as my companion continued to build up speed.

His footsteps were almost inaudible but the shriek of his bone dragging across the ground startled the Whismur.

 

BP:

“Lets go, Marowak! Who knows, this Pokémon could be more powerful than you think!” I heard Greggory shout as Marowak came to his attention. In a second, he was in a martial arts battle stance, his arms were spread out like chopsticks before him and his feet were shoulder-width apart. His eyes bore into the Whismur and, to be honest, that stare was enough to scare any small Pokemon. Whismur stared back, before... giggling.

"Whismur," it giggled girlishly. With one quick leap t jumped out of the bush and began to skip away. She gave the Marowak one last fleeting look before slowly walking away.

“Come on Marowak, Hit him with your head, FULL FORCE!" Greggory shouted and Marowak nodded in confirmation. He ducked his head into his chest before hurtling forward, like a speeding bullet. Whismur had plenty of time to duck but she wasn't fully paying attention. She just had time to growl cutely at the Marowak. This caught him off gaurd and he stumbled a bit. But, his head connected with her pink body, albeit not too roughly.

Marowak seemed a bit thrown off by the Whismur’s growl, but nevertheless, he was ready for more action. I studied the movements of the Whismur, she didn’t seem to be paying to much attention to Marowak but more… to his bone. In that moment I also noticed an emerald gathering of bushes, basked in sunlight right behind the whismur.

I laughed to myself, “Marowak! Throw your bone into the thicket of bushes behind whismur!” I called out, doing so I hoped to distract the Whismur, “Follow up with a take down attack while its back is turned!” I added before allowing my friend to gracefully execute the battle plan.

Greggory paused for a moment, clearly trying to think what he could do. He seemed to come to a conclusion after a few seconds, though. “Marowak! Throw your bone into the thicket of bushes behind whismur!” he called out, doing so I hoped to distract the Whismur. “Follow up with a Take Down attack while its back is turned!"

Marowak grunted, presumably agreeing with the choice of attack, and darted forward. Whismur giggled a little bit. I was starting to think that she had fallen in love with the Marowak, when Marowak bounded into the air, performed a little somersault and flung the bone straight into the bushes, before landing on one knee on the ground. "Wak, wak!" he cheered as Whismur spun around in search of the fired bone.

"Mur?" she cooed, looking in the emerald bushes for the bone.

There was a whoosing sound as Marowak charge forward and rammed into the Whismur. "Whis?" she cried in pain. She fell down to the hard earth and curled up into a ball. Tears poured down her cheeks as she started to cry. Marowak looked rather guilty and he advanced and extended an arm for her to grab so he could help her to her feet.

"Whismur!" she hissed as she clawed at his face. He jumped backwards but Whismur still managed to get in a few quick scratches.

"Faint Attack..." I mumbled.

I watched as the Whismur began to pour tears but was immediately surprised when she relaunched an attack on Marowak as he extended a hand of friendship. The bone Marowak had tossed into the bushes came soaring back and Marowak caught it with ease.

Marowak hadn’t landed a strong enough attack yet to do some serious damage… But I knew just how he could!

“Marowak! Use swords dance!” I called out and as if Marowak was expecting this, he broke into a pose and began twirling on the spot with his bone pointed to the heavens. I hoped for the swords dance success, “Follow up with a powerful bone rush!” I ordered.

 

BP

"Marowak, use Swords Dance," Greggory commanded as Marowaks bone shot back into his hand.

Marowak closed his eyes tightly and I watched carefully as his face lined with concentration amd he began striking powerful poses. This move helped to boost the Pokemons self-esteem and raise their attacking power. Marowaks eyelids shot open and his eyes were a blood red colour. I could tell that he meant busines.

"Follow up with a powerful Bone Rush," his trainer added. Marowak darted forward at a surprisingly fast speed and hurled the bone as though it were a boomerang. It spun through the air before clonking the Whismur on the head. "Whis," it muttered, shaking its head. Her face turned a deep shade of red and she began to vibrate. Suddenly, she started emitting high pitched noises and I was forced to cover my ears with my hands. Marowak looked like he was in pain as Pokemon have much more sensitive hearing than humans.

“Ahhhhhhh!” I screeched as the Whismur emitted a pain stakingly powerful roar.
Marowak staggered as it placed its paws on the sides of his skull helmet.

“Marowak! Shut that thing up! Let it play with your bone! It seems fascinated by the thing!” I yelped.

Marowak was stunned but followed my orders tossing the bone in front of the shrieking Whismur. Hopefully this would calm her down!

Marowak looked odd without his bone but still, his eyes burned with a power brought on by swords dance.

“Lets go! Use Double –Edge!” I shouted.

 

BP

"Agh," Greg cried out in pain as the sound rung through his eardrums. That's the thing with moves like this; they hurt some people a lot more than they affect others. Realising I had some earmuffs left from earlier, I whipped them out of my pocket and tossed them to Greg. He quickly propped them on. I was fine without them-- I had braved louder noises in this woods.

"Marowak! Shut that thing up! Let it play with your bone! It seems fascinated by the thing!” Greg shouted after popping on the earmuffs. Marowak nodded his head and tried his best to ignore the pain. I felt quite guilty because I had another pair of earmuffs but I knew I couldn't give them to the Marowak. It was against ethical ranger contract to help the trainer or the wild Pokemon in a battle unless it was an emergency. Marowak flung the bone, just like before it spun around like a boomerang, except this time it hit the Whismur in the face and shutting it up. The silence felt odd after the Whismur calmed down.

"Let's go, use Double Edge!" Greg shouted as a final move. Marowak braced itself by jumping up and down on the spot, building up its momentum before flinging it's body forward. Whismur bent down just in the nick of time to get the bone and held it upright. It helped to soften the blow of the powerful Double Edge but Whismur looked rather weak afterwards. It shuffled forward a bit before throwing the bone back to Marowak.

"Whismur sure is getting weak," I noted. "It seems close to being able to be captured," I added.

It struggled to it's feet and gave Greg one last smile as it awaited the near-certain Pokeball.

"Greg," I started, "now is your ideal chance to attempt to catch it."

I looked at the weakened Whismur, Feeling almost sorry for the poor thing.

But I knew that if I captured it, I could make it happier than if it was out here in the wild.

"Okay Marowak, Thats enough! Now! I'll use this Park Ball to capture whismur. Whismur! Welcome home!" I muttered as I tossed the park ball cutting through the air.

 

NBP:

"Okay Marowak, Thats enough! Now! I'll use this Park Ball to capture whismur. Whismur! Welcome home!" Greg shouted as he tosse the plain Park Ball at the Whismur. It stopped about half of a metre away and sucked Whismur inside with a red beam of light. It dropped to the floor an started to twitch. Once... twice.. three times and it emitted a bing, signalling a successful capture.

"Excellent," I said, grabbing the Park Ball and stowing it in my bag. "You can have this at the end of the run," I told him. "Now, let's continue on."

We continued walking in the same direction for a while until we came to a cross-roads of sorts; a path intercepted the one we were on meaning there were three options for where we could go. The right path had a sign that said "Insect's Alcove", the left path had a sign saying "Manmade structures", and the centre path had a sign saying "Woods Center".

"Where would you like to go?"

I had succesfully captured Whismur, I was overjoyed as was Marowak who pranced around juggling his bone inbetween his hands.

Ranger Jay stopped ahead and turned around to face me, I was asked which was I would like to go...

"The left Path!" I declared, pointing at the path with the sign "manmade structures."

 

NBP:

"The left," Gref said happily. Marowak twirled the bone inbetween his two hands, possibly indicating his eagerness to continue.

We walked down the left path and into one of the lighter parts of the trees. The plants were less dense here and this area had some small shrubs popping up out of the ground. We came to a little playground, made for the local Pokemon. On the top of the slide sat a lone Nincada.

"How rare," I said astonishedly. "You want to battle it?"
